2000 TUNDRA - RUSTING FRAME. TRUCK WAS INSPECTED BY TOYOTA IN NASHUA, NH - NOV 13, 2009. RESULT WAS A RUSTED THROUGH SPARE TIRE BRACE AND RUST FORMATION ON REAR SECTION. SINCE I TOW MY 27" CATAMARAN, I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE FRAME. FILED CLAIM TO TOYOTA (0911130407) NOV 2009. *TR
A TELEVISION BUMPED THE LEFT REAR TIRE WELL(IN BED OF TRUCK), PUTTING A DENT IN IT AND CAUSING IT TO SPLIT THE AREA OF THE TRUCK. THE SPLIT WAS ABOUT 9 INCHES LONG. DRIVER WAS MAKING A RIGHT TURN, TRAVELING ABOUT 7 MPH WHEN THE INCIDENT HAPPENED.
THE FAILURE WAS NOT INSTANTANEOUS, IT WAS AN ONGOING SEVERE VIBRATION PROBLEM. *AK

BAD VIBRATION (SHUDDER) ON APPLYING BRAKES. SINCE THIS OCCURS AT NO OTHER TIME, IT APPEARS TO BE A FRONT BRAKE PROBLEM. THE DEALER INSTALLED THE TOYOTA TSB "FIX" FOR THIS IN OCTOBER 2002, BUT THE TRUCK CONTINUES TO EXHIBIT UNSAFE BRAKING BEHAVIOR. *****DIMS 11 IVOQ ENTRY POSTED AFTER 12/12/02 CUT-OVER TO ARTEMIS*****769321. *AK
FRONT DISCS WARP AND REQUIRE CHANGING APPROXIMATELY EVERY 12,000 MILES. THE VEHICLE SHAKES VIOLENTLY UPON BRAKING AS THE MILEAGE APPROACHES 12,000 MILES ON THE NEW SET OF DISCS, CREATING AN UNSAFE CONDITION. TOYOTA SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE TO RECALL THIS VEHICLE AND CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *AK
MY 2000 TUNDRA HAS PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES... I HAVE SERVICED THEM SO MANY TIMES AND SPENT SO MUCH MONEY. NOW I HEARD THERE IS A SPECIAL TECHNICAL SERVICE FOR IT TO GET IT DONE. BUT I WAS TOLD I DID NOT FALL UNDER THE WARRANTY DO TO THE MILEAGE. $2000 DOLLARS FOR A BRAKE JOB THAT TOYOTA MEESED UP ON. WHY MUST WE PAY FOR A FAILED BRAKING SYSTEM? *AK
ON 9/22/05 I SUBMITTED COMPLAINT INFORMATION, HOWEVER, MY PHONE # WAS INCORRECT AND - CORRECT # [XXX]. ALSO, I INDICATED MY BRAKE SYSTEM TO BE AIR ACTIVATED IT IS NOT - IT IS FLUID ACTIVATED. THE FOLLOWING IS A REPEAT OF MY COMPLIANT: ON 9/17/05 I WAS INFORMED BY MY TOYOTA DEALER THAT MY 2000 TOYOTA MODEL TUNDRA, PICKUP HAD MAJOR MODIFICATION TO THE BRAKE SYSTEM BY TOYOTA COMPANY. NOTE I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK NEW. HOWEVER, SINCE THE TRUCK IS OUT OF WARRANTY, I WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE LABOR AND PARTS TO REPLACE THE UPGRADE PARTS. THE UPGRADED BRAKE PARTS CONSISTS OF THICKER ROTORS, LARGER CALIPERS AND WIDER BRAKE PADS. BECAUSE THE PARTS UPGRADE INDICATES THAT THE CURRENT PARTS ARE INADEQUATE TO DO THE JOB OF STOPPING THE VEHICLE UNDER NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS, I CALLED THE TOYOTA CONSUMER RELATIONS OFFICE AND THEY AGREED ,THAT MY BRAKES SYSTEM HAD BEEN UPGRADED. THEY SAID, THAT SINCE THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY, I WOULD PAY FOR BOTH LABOR COST? AND $1600.00 FOR PARTS. RACK AND PINION STEERING FAILURE, CAUSING FRONT TIRES TO WEAR EXCESSIVELY. FRONT BRAKES WOULD GRAB/VIBRATE WHEN VEHICLE GOT HOT, AND BRAKES WERE APPLIED. VEHICLE BEEN IN DEALER SHOP ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG. VEHICLE TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP, AND IT INFORMED CONSUMER OF RACK AND PINION STEERING PROBLEM. PLEASE FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER DETAILS ON THIS MATTER. *AK
4X4 SYSTEM WILL GRIND GEARS AND POP OUT OF 4-LO BACK TO 4-HI. *AK
THE FRAME ON MY 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA IS RUSTING THROUGH AND BECOMING UNSAFE. TOYOTA INDICATES THERE IS NO REPAIR AVAILABLE AND NOTHING THEY CAN DO NOW AS THERE IS NO "RECALL" IN EFFECT. THE TRUCK IS 8 YEARS OLD WITH 94K AND WORTHLESS AND UNSAFE. *TR
WHILE ATTEMPTING TO MANEUVER PASS A TOW TRUCK WHICH WAS PARTIALLY BLOCKING THE DRIVERS LANE OF TRAVEL, THE BRAKES LOCKED UP AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SKID FORWARD TOWARD THE FRONT PORTION OF THE TOW TRUCK, THE FRONT AND CENTER PORTION OF THE TRUCK COLLIDED WITH THE LEFT FRONT SECTION OF THE TOW TRUCK'S BUMPER, DURING THIS ACCIDENT NEITHER FRONTAL AIR BAG DEPLOYED, THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HIS TORSO AND WHIPLASH, THE PASSENGER SUFFERED SEVER ABDOMINAL BRUISING FROM THE SEAT BELT. WHEN DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS AND BRAKES ARE APPLIED VEHICLE SHAKES. THE SHAKE GETS WORSE WHEN VEHICLE IS GOING DOWN AN INCLINE. THE MANUFACTURER IS AWARE OF PROBLEM AND HAS ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN, BUT THIS DOES NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. PLEASE PROVIDE MORE DETAILS. TS
SPARE TIRE RELEASED WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AT APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH AND TOWING 5TH WHEEL, CAUSING DAMAGE TO RV TRUCK. COMPLETE ASSEMBLY THAT HOLDS SPARE TIRE HAS ALSO FALLEN OUT, THE ONLY PART LEFT WAS CRANK. THEREFORE DEALER COULD NOT DETERMINE CAUSE. *AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT THE FRONT ROTORS HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE, AND NOW NEEDS TO BE REPLACED FOR A THIRD TIME DUE TO WARPAGE, CONSUMER WAS INFORMED BY MECHANIC THAT THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH THE ALLOY CHOSEN FOR THE ROTORS.*JB
RAPID PULSATING OF BRAKES UNDER LIGHT TO MODERATE BRAKING AT ALMOST ANY SPEED. SUSPECT A DESIGN DEFECT IN THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. TOOK VEHICLE TO TOYOTA SEVERAL TIMES, WAS TOLD "NOTHING WRONG", BRAKE ROTORS WERE TURNED FINALLY AFTER SOME INSISTENCE ON MY PART. PROBLEM SEEMED TO GO AWAY BUT CAME BACK. BRAKES HAVE BEEN DONE AGAIN AND PROBLEM STILL OCCURS. THIS PHENOMENON HAS BEEN OBSERVED IN SEVERAL OTHER TOYOTA VEHICLES WE HAVE OWNED, A 1993 CAMRY, A 2001 AVALON AND A 2005 LEXUS ES330. PROBLEM DOESN'T OCCUR EVERY TIME BRAKES ARE APPLIED AND CAN BE BARELY NOTICEABLE WITH A SLIGHT WOBBLE IN THE STEERING WHEEL TO AN ALMOST VIOLENT SHAKING THAT COULD CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL. PROBLEM SEEMS TO BE WORSE DURING WARMER WEATHER. *TR
CONSUMER STATES THAT THE VEHICLE HAS A VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES. VEHICLE BEEN TO THE DEALER ON SIX OCCASION. HAS THE FRONT ROTORS TURNS TWICE, PADS REPLACED, AND BOTH REAR DRUMS REPLACED YET THE PROBLEM STILL REOCCURS WITHIN EVERY 8,000 MILES. NLM
I HAVE A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. IT HAS A TERRIBLE VIBRATION IN THE FRONT END DUE TO THE UNDERSIZED CALIPERS IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM. I KNOW THIS BECAUSE TOYOTA HAS TOLD ME THIS PERSONALLY. UNFORTUNATELY ONCE THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF WARRANTY, THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH ACCORDING TO THEIR SERVICE BULLETINS, THE CALIPERS ARE NOT ADEQUATE. THIS DOES NOT SEEM TO BE A FREAK THING SINCE SO MANY TUNDRA OWNERS HAVE EXPRESSED THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT IT SEEMS TOYOTA WILL NOT RECALL THEIR MISTAKE. THE VIBRATION HAS BEEN THERE SINCE DAY 1. UNFORTUNATELY, I DIDN'T REALIZE IT WAS A MAJOR PROBLEM UNTIL I STARTED GOING THROUGH BRAKE PADS AND THE ROTORS WERE GETTING WARPED. *NLM

I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER AND MY 2000 TUNDRA HAS ALWAYS HAD EXTREME VIBRATION WHEN BRAKING. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED THE BRAKE ROTORS SEVERAL TIMES AND THE VIBRATION RETURNS AGAIN AND AGAIN. THE VIBRATION ALWAYS GETS WORSE IF YOU HAVE TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES IN AN EMERGENCY. THE FRONTEND FEELS LIKE IT IS GOING TO BEING TORN APART WHEN THE ANTI-LOCK BREAKING SYSTEM IS ENGAGED, THERE IS A HORRIBLE GRINDING NOISE WITH WHEEL HOP WITH VIBRATION AT THE TIME. THIS ALSO HAPPENS UNDER WET CONDITIONS WHEN BRAKING.THE ROTORS ARE THEN DAMAGED AND YOU NOTICE A CONSTANT VIBRATION UNDER BREAKING AFTER THAT. THE VIBRATION IS MUCH MORE SEVERE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. PASSENGERS ALWAYS NOTICE THE VIBRATIONS WHEN BRAKING ANYTIME. THE VIBRATION IS ALSO FELT IN THE STEERING COLUMN AND BRAKE PEDAL. EVERY OWNER THAT I HAVE SPOKEN WITH HAS THIS SAME PROBLEM. I AM SHOCKED THAT THE NHTSA HAS NEVER ADDRESSED THIS ISSUE. *TR

PROBELM IS OCCURRING AGAIN AND IS INTERMITTENT; DEALERSHIP SAYS THEY CAN'T REPAIR WHAT THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE ALTHOUGH IT IS THE SAME PROBLEM AS BEFORE. NO SAFETY DEFECT LISTED WITHIN SUMMARY. *AK
POWER DOOR LOCK FLY OPEN AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, REPLACE TWICE, BUT PART KEEPS FAILING
VEHICLE SHAKES WHILE BRAKING, CONSUMER STATES VIBRATION IS ALSO FELT IN STEERING WHEEL AND PULSATION IS FELT IN BRAKE PEDAL, VEHICLE IS BROUGHT TO DEALER EVERY 4-5 THOUSAND MILES, WITH NO SUCCESS IN CORRECTING PROBLEM, 2 TSB'S WERE DONE ON VEHICLE, BR 006-00 AND BR 003-00, STILL NO RESOLUTION. *SLC
FRONT ROTORS CONTINUE TO WARP UNDER NORMAL DRIVING. DEALER CLAIMS IT IS A NORMAL WEAR ITEM AND DOESN'T WANT TO REPLACE.M *AK
VEHICLE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATED SINCE THE DAY WE PURCHASED. NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO FIX HAVE FAILED. DEALER(S) SAID WHEELS OR BRAKES OR TIRES WERE THE PROBLEM. REPLACED WHEELS AND BRAKES, PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. TOLD CONSUMER TO REPLACE TIRES. WE SAID WE WOULD IF THEY PROVE THIS IS THE PROBLEM BY PUTTING TIRES ON TO CHECK IT. ONE DEALER WOULD NOT. WE FOUND ONE THAT WOULD. NEW, HIGH QUALITY TIRES RESULTED IN SAME VIBRATION. WENT TO ARBITRATION AND LOST. THIS IS A COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME AND RESOURCES. DEALER WAS ABLE TO LIE AND SAY THEY DIDN'T PUT NEW TIRES ON (AT THE INSISTANCE OF THE 'DISTRICT REP'. THE FRONT RIGHT TIRE WAS WORN COMPLETELY DOWN ON THE OUTER EDGE, AND OTHER THREE WERE OK. DOCUMENTED WITHIN ALIGNMENT AND BALANCE THE ENTIRE LIFE OF VEHICLE. TOYOTA 'RECOMMENDS' 26 PSI IN FRONT TIRES TO DAMPEN KNOWN VIBRATION. TIRES DESIGNED FOR 35 PSI. THIS SUBSTANTIALLY AFFECTS VALUE OF VEHICLE, AS AFTER ARBITRATION LOSS WE TRIED TO TRADE, BUT DEALER SAID HE KNEW OF DEFECT IN FRONT END OF 2000 TUNDRA'S AND WOULD NOT EVEN GIVE US WHOLESALE TRADE VALUE. HIS TEST DRIVE CONFIRMED VIBRATION. IN ADDITION, WE NEED TO REPLACE TIRES OFTEN DUE TO DEFECT. WILL NEVER BUY ANOTHER TOYOTA!*AK
DEALER SAID "NO DEFECTS FOUND". *AK
WITHIN 4000 MILES OF PURCHASE OF VEHICLE, IT DEVELOPED SEVERE VIBRATION DURING BRAKING. VEHICLE CURRENTLY HAS 28000 MILES ON IT AND IS ON ITS THIRD FULL SET OF BRAKE ROTORS AND DRUMS. NEW ROTORS/DRUMS SEEM TO ONLY PROVIDE 1000-4000 MILES OF SMOOTH BRAKING BEFORE VIBRATION SETS IN AGAIN. DEALERS FIXING VEHICLE SAY VIBRATION IS DUE TO HEAT INDUCED WARPING OF ROTORS AND DRUMS. ONCE PARTS ARE WARPED, VIBRATIONS GET SO SEVERE IT FEELS ALMOST AS IF THE REAR END OF THE VEHICLE IS HOPPING UP AND DOWN DURING HARD BRAKING. I BELIEVE THIS DEFECT GREATLY INCREASES CRITICAL STOPPING DISTANCE. MANUFACTURER HAS NOT PROVIDED "PERMANENT" FIX FOR THIS DEFECT, THEY HAVE ONLY REPLACED WARPED PARTS WITH NEW PARTS OF SAME DESIGN. SOON VIBRATION SETS IN AGAIN. VEHICLE WILL SOON BE OUT OF WARRANTY.*AK
IF YOU LOOK ON THE INTERNET, YOU WILL FIND THAT THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED CASE. THERE ARE PROBABLY HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM ( TRUCK VIBRATES, ESPECIALLY WHEN BRAKING). TOYOTA INSISTS THAT THIS IS NORMAL.
2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. CONSUMER STATED THAT DURING AN AUTO ACCIDENT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER THE CRASH, HE HAD TO HAVE EXTENSIVE DECOMPRESSION SURGERY. THE CONSUMER STATED HE BROKE HIS BACK AND BADLY DAMAGED HIS NECK. THE CONSUMER WAS PERMANENTLY DISABLED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE.

RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE 99V347003/ TAIL LIGHTS & CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP TO SET AN APPOINTMENT. WAS INFORMED BY MECHANIC THAT NO PARTS WERE AVAILABLE. NO INDICATION WHEN PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE. *AK
CONSTANT BINDING OF THE TRANSMISSION. AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, VEHICLE WILL JERK FORWARD AS THOUGH IT HAS BEN HIT IN THE REAR-END. THIS WILL ALSO HAPPEN AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, AND AFTER BRAKE PEDAL IS RELEASED, VEHICLE WILL JERK. AT TIMES, AND AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP AND SITTING FOR A FEW MINUTES, VEHICLE WILL JERK FORWARD AS THOUGH IT HAS BEEN HIT IN THE REAR-END. VEHICLE FEELS AS THOUGH THE TRANSMISSION IS BINDING WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. ONCE BRAKES ARE RELEASED, BINDING IS RELEASED, AND JERKING BEGINS. I HAVE TAKEN VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP WITHIN A FEW WEKS OF PURCHASE TO HAVE PROBLEM CORRECTED, ONLY TO BE TOLD NOTHING WAS WRONG, EVEN THOUGH THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, BUT THERE WAS NO FIX. I HAVE SEARCHED THE INTERNET, AND HAVE READ VARIOUS COMPLAINTS BY OTHER TOYOTA TUNDRA OWNERS EXPERINCING THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT TOYOTA FAILS TO RECONIZE THE PROBLEM.
WHEN TRUCK REAR ENDED A TOYOTA 4 RUNNER IT HIT A CURB AND BROADSIDED A FORD PICKUP. UPON IMPACT, THERE WAS NO DEPLOYMENT OF DRIVER'S SIDE OR PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAGS. IT'S MORE THAN LIKELY THAT THE TRUCK WILL BE TOTALLED. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
CHRONIC VIBRATION AT SPEEDS FROM 45-70 MPH SINCE DEALER REBALANCED. DEALER CANNOT FIND SOURCE OF VIBRATION - TRIED REPLACING ALL MAJOR COMPONENTS TO NO AVAIL. *AK

CONSUMER STATED THAT PROBLEM CANNOT BE DUPLICATED AT THE DEALERSHIP. WHEN HE IS CRANKING VEHICLE FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. THERE IS A LOT OF RAW GASOLINE SMELL COMING INSIDE OF VEHICLE. *AK
