ROTORS WARP AFTER ONLY A FEW WEEKS. HAVE REPLACED A NUMBER OF TIMES WITH "IMPROVED" ROTORS WITHOUT ANY HELP. TOYOTA KNEW OF THIS PROBLEM AND FIXED MANY BUT WILL NOT FIX MY 2000 TUNDRA. JB
I HAVE A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA THAT SUFFERS FROM EXCESSIVE FRAME ROT PRIMARILY IN THE FRONT PORTION OF THE TRUCK. MY FEAR IS AN IMMANENT AND PREMATURE FAILURE OF NEWYORK STATE MANDATED SAFETY INSPECTION, HEAVEN FORBID A FRONTEND COLLISION IN WHICH MY WIFE WHO IS THE PRIMARY OPERATOR OF THIS VEHICLE, COULD BE SEVERELY INJURED OR KILLED. I HAVE READ AND HEARD OF SOME DEALERSHIPS REPLACING WHOLE TUNDRA FRAMES AS WELL AS SIMPLY BUYING BACK THE VEHICLES FROM THE CURRENT OWNERS. I VISITED A NEARBY TOYOTA DEALER WHO ANGRILY INFORMED ME THAT " NO SUCH PROBLEM EXISTS" YET WHEN I CONTACT OTHER TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS, THEY ADVISE ME THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. I AM LOOKING FOR THE TRUTH CONCERNING THIS MATTER. IT'S BEEN A GOOD TRUCK OTHERWISE, BUT I AM NOT GOING TO POTENTIALLY JEOPARDIZE THE LIVES OF MY FAMILY SIMPLY BECAUSE A MANUFACTURE WON'T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR PRODUCTION SHORTCUTS,OVERSIGHTS AND MISTAKES. AT THIS CURRENT TIME IN TOYOTA HISTORY, IT'S TIME TO FIX THE RECURRING PROBLEMS AND SHORTFALLS THEY HAVE BEEN TRYING FOR YEARS TO SLIDE BY THE CONSUMER BEFORE THE CONSUMER DICTATES THEIR FATAL DEMISE AS A COMPANY. *TR
WHEN DRIVING ON A BUMPY SECTION IN INTERSTATE 40 (BETWEEN FT SMITH AND LITTLE ROCK, AR), ON TWO OCCATIONS, THE ELECTRIC DOOR LOCKS UNLOCKED AUTOMATICALLY AND EACH TIME I WOULD HIT A BUMP, THE DOME LIGHT WOULD FLICKER AS IF THE DOORS WERE AJAR. BOTH TIMES, THIS WAS CORRECTED (DOME LIGHT STOPPED FLICKERING) WHEN I PULLED OVER AND RECLOSED ALL THE DOORS ON THE 4 DOOR TRUCK.

VEHICLE HAS HAD CONTINUAL FAILURES OF THE SEAT BELT RETRACTORS, THREE REPLACMENTS COMPLETED AND THIRD REPLACEMENT IS NECESSARY DUE TO RECENT FAILURE. *MJS UPON INSPECTION, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE GUIDE LOOP HAD ACCUMULATED DIRT UNDER THE SEATBELT, THE DIRT CAUSES A DRAG ON THE BELT, SLOWING ITS PROGRESS THROUGH THE GUIDE LOOP, EVEN THOUGH THE RETRACTOR HAS PROPER OPERATION, ONCE THE DIRT WAS CLEANED THE BELT RETRACTED PROPERLY, CONSUMER USES THIS VEHICLE FOR BUSINESS IN CONSTRUCTION. *SLC CONSUMER STATES THAT THE DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING MORE ABOUT THE SEAT BELT, CONSUMER ALSO STATES BY FOLLOWING THE REGULAR MAINTENANCE, THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. *SLC
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES THERE IS PULSATION IN FRONT REAR TIRE. ROTORS AND DRUMS ARE WEARING OUT PREMATURELY. CONSUMER HAS BEEN TO DEALER 4 TIMES FOR SAME PROBLEM.*AK
WE BOUGHT A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA, 4X4, EXTRA CAB. AT 800 KLMS WE NOTICED THERE WAS NO PAINT LEFT ON THE FRONT BOTTOM CORNERS OF THE BOX. AT 5800 KLMS THERE IS NO PAINT LEFT ON THE WHOLE UNDERCARAGE OF THE TRUCK, LARGE CHUNKS OF METAL GONE FROM THE ROCKERPANELS, ROCK CHIPS ALL OVER THE VEHICLE INCLUDING THE ROOF. THIS TRUCK HAS FACTORY TIRES, MUDFLAPS, AND FENDER FLARES AND STILL THROWS ROCKS SO EXTENSIVELY TO THE REAR, CENTRE AND FRONT OF THE VEHICLE YOU ACTUALLY DRIVE RIGHT INTO THEM THEREFORE DAMAGEING THE WINDSHIELD AS WELL. IT IS DANGEROUS FOR ANY MORTORIST BEHIND IT. WE ARE CURRENTLY HEADING INTO A DISPUTE WITH TOYOTA CANADA VIA CANVAP AS TOYOTA CANADA'S POSITION ON THIS MATTER IS THAT NOTHING IS COVERED UNDER WARRENTY AS IT IS "OWNER ABUSE" DUE TO DRIVING ON ABNORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS!! WE DRIVE 2 KLMS A DAY ON A GOVERNMENT MAINTAINED GRAVEL ROAD, AND 60 KLMS A DAY ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY. WE HAVE SEEN TWO OTHER TUNDRA'S WITH THE SAME PROBLEM SO FAR AND ARE LOOKING FOR ANY OTHER TUNDRA OWNERS WHO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. OUR TRUCK LOOKS LIKE IT HAS BEEN SANDBLASTED. WE HAVE REPORTS FROM INDEPENDENT BODY SPECIALIST WHO CAN'T BELIEVE WHAT THIS TRUCK IS DOING. *AK
2000 TUNDRA BRAKE VIBRATION ISSUE; PURCHASED AS COMPANY TRUCK OCT 1999, TOOK TO DEALER AT 15K FOR BRAKE VIBRATION; STATES ROTORS AND PADS REPLACED BUT IT NEVER REALLY GOT BETTER, I JUST GOT USED TO IT. COULD NOT CONSTANTLY TAKE TRUCK IN TO LOOSE FOR 2-3 DAYS THE DEALER REQUIRED SO I BEGAN USING MY PERSONAL MECHANIC OF YEARS. PERSONAL MECHANIC REPLACED PADS AND TURNED ROTORS AT 59K, PERSONAL MECHANIC CHANGED 2 OXYGEN SENSORS AT 67K (I HEARD THOSE WERE RECALLED PRIOR TO 80K), PERSONAL MECHANIC BECAME A NUT CASE OVER THESE BRAKES AT 88K, HE REPLACED ROTORS, DRUMS, PADS AND I STILL BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS.... I KNEW MY MECHANIC WAS SINCERE. I HAVE JUST LIVED WITH IT; I AM NOW AT 140K MILES AND A BIT SICK IN STOMACH FROM THE BRAKING ISSUES. I DECIDED TO HAVE ANOTHER AREA MECHANIC GIVE IT A GO; WHILE MY TRUCK IS IN SHOP I SURF WEB AND DISCOVER THIS HAS BEEN A SERIOUS ISSUE SINCE I DROVE OFF THE FREAKING LOT WITH THAT TRUCK. I'VE GOT RECEIPTS, NOT NECESSARILY IN ORDER BUT I HAVE THEM. THANKS, CARLA. *TR
LEFT FRONT BALL JOINT FAILED, WHILE TOWING A TRAILER WITH MY WIFE AND A TWO YEAR OLD. MECHANIC FOUND "SEVERE RUST" AND STATED VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE DRIVE. *TR
IT HAS LONG BEEN A KNOWN FACT THAT THE OLDER TUNDRAS HAVE HAD SEVERE BRAKING PROBLEMS WITH WARPING ROTORS CAUSING EXTREME VIBRATIONS. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE BY EITHER TOYOTA, OR THE NHTSA. WHY? EVERY FEW THOUSAND MILES, I HAVE TO EITHER REPLACE OR HAVE THE ROTORS TURNED. THE TRUCK GETS UNSAFE AND DANGEROUS TO DRIVE BECAUSE OF EXCESSIVE VIBRATIONS IN THE FRONT END. EVERYONE KNOWS WHY THIS HAPPENS- HEAT BUILDUP BECAUSE OF TO SMALL FRONT END BRAKES. POOR DESIGN. IT CAN BE FIXED, BUT WILL COST THE CONSUMER OVER $2500. TOYOTA SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE, AND FIX THIS ISSUE! *TR

WHILE DRIVING, CONSUMER CAN SMELL EXHAUST FUMES COMING THROUGH CAB OF VEHICLE. HAVE YET TO CONTACT DEALER. *AK THE CONSUMER WAS COMPLAINING ABOUT ROAD NOISE WHILE HE WAS DRIVING. ALSO THE RADIO WAS OF NO USE BECAUSE HE CAN?T HEAR WHEN THE VEHICLE SPEED WAS ABOVE 40 MPH. *YH
WHILE DRIVING, HEARD ROAD NOISE LIKE DOORS NOT CLOSING. ALSO, AIR CAME THROUGH THE DOORS. CONTACTED DEALER. *AK NEW SEALS WERE INSTALLED AROUND DOOR OPENINGS BY THE DEALER. DOOR AJAR LIGHT COMES ON AT TIMES AND ELECTRIC DOOR LOCKS OPEN DUE TO LOCK ASSEMBLY FAILURE. KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT OF IGNITION. ALARM GOES OFF BY ITSELF DUE TO SHOCK SENSOR SHORTING OUT. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START DUE TO BATTERY FAILURE. *YH
WHILE DRIVING, DOME LIGHT COMES ON BY ITSELF. HAS TO STOP VEHICLE/OPEN AND CLOSE DOORS TO GET LIGHT TO GO OFF. THIS HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY. DEALER CONTACTED.*AK CONSUMER STATES THAT LIGHT ONLY COMES ON ONCE IN A WHILE WHEN DRIVING OVER POT HOLES.
MY VEHICLE HAS VIBRATED WITHOUT SUCCESS OF FIXING FROM THE DEALERSHIP FROM THE BEGINNING. I BOUGHT NEW TIRES AND THE VEHICLE STILL VIBRATES. *AK

LETTER FROM SENATOR KERRY ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT RE HIS CONCERNS THAT TOYOTA IS NOT ADDRESSING A DEFECT COMPLAINT. *NJ THE CONSUMERS 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA HAS EXCESSIVE FRAME CORROSION. THE DEALER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *JB
TOYOTA TUNDRA TRUCK RECALL*CW THE CONSUMER READ ABOUT A RECALL IN THE NEWSPAPER REGARDING RUST ON THE REAR CROSS-MEMBER. THE CONSUMER TOOK HIS VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND UPON INSPECTION, THEY DISCOVERED RUST ON THE CROSS-MEMBER. *JB UPDATED 03/10/10
2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA SR5. CONSUMER STATES EXPERIENCES WITH THE FRAME RUST AND CROSS MEMBER ISSUES. *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED HE WAS SHOCK TO DISCOVER THE AMOUNT OF RUST THAT HAD DEVELOPED ON ALMOST ALL OF THE REAR FRAME COMPONENTS.
2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH FRAME RUST *TGW THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE VEHICLE WOULD BE REPAIRED UNDER RECALL AT NO COST TO HIM. SEVERAL DAYS LATER, THE CONSUMER WAS THEN TOLD THE RECALL REPAIR WOULD COST HIM $1,200.00. THE DEALER STATED THAT PRICE INCLUDED ADDITIONAL PARTS THAT WERE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE FRAME AS THEY WOULD MOST LIKELY NOT BE ABLE TO BE REUSED, AS PARTS WOULD BE DAMAGED AS THE TRUCK WAS DISASSEMBLED. THE CONSUMER CONTACTED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND HE WAS TOLD TOYOTA PAID FOR THE FRAME REPLACEMENT, AND THAT ANYTHING ADDITIONAL REQUIRED BY THE DEALER WAS BETWEEN THE CONSUMER AND THE DEALERSHIP. *JB
CRUISE CONTROL DOWNSHIFT TO PASSING GEAR, RAPIDLY, CAUSING EXCESSIVE SPEED TO ACCELERATE 5 MILES PAST SETTING,
DEFECTIVE SPRING CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO BOTTOM OUT WHILE GOING AROUND TURNS AND OVER BUMPS.*ET.
THERE IS A DISTINCT VIBRATION IN THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WHEN DRIVING FORWARD, ALWAYS AT ABOUT 24 MILES PER HOUR. THIS HAS OCCURED SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS BRAND NEW. I HAD IT CHECKED BY THE SELLING DEALER AT 2000 MILES AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS A KNOWN. *AK
TOYOTA RECOMMENDED AN INCORRECT TIRE PRESSURE. IT WAS DIFFERENT FROM WHAT MICHELIN RECOMENDED. THIS WAS CONFIRMED BY THE TIRE MANUFACTURER, AND COULD CAUSE TIRE FAILURE. *AK THE VEHICLE HAD VIBRATION PROBLEM AND TOYOTA SAYS TO RUN THE TIRES AT 26 PST TO KEEP THE FRONT END FROM VIBRATING. TOYOTA WAS UNABLE TO FIX IT. *YH
THIS V-8 POWERED FOUR-WHEEL-DRIVE VEHICLE HAS P265/16 DUNLOP TIRES WHICH ARE ONLY INFLATED TO ONLY 26 P.S.I. ON THE FRONT AXLE. I COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT I THOUGHT THEY HAD PUT THE WRONG TIRE INFLATION STICKER ON MY TRUCK (THE STICKER STATES THE PRESSURE FOR P245/16 TIRES). LIVING IN HOT FLORIDA AND RIDING AROUND ON TIRES THAT ARE HALF-FLAT HAS ME REALLY CONCERNED ABOUT A BLOW-OUT DUE TO AN UNDERINFLATED, HOT TIRE. THE REASON TOYOTA HAS RECOMMENDED SUCH A LOW TIRE PRESSURE IS BECAUSE THEY ARE HAVING VIBRATION PROBLEMS WITH THIS TRUCK - WHEN THE TIRE PRESSURE IS RAISED TO THE PROPER (TIRE MANUFACTURERS RECOMMENDED INFLATION OF 35 P.S.I.), THEY VEHICLE VIBRATES LIKE CRAZY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. NO AMOUNT OF BALANCING OR REPLACEMENT HAS SOLVED THE PROBLEM - TOYOTA'S ANSWER IS A DANGEROUS LOWERING OF THE TIRE PRESSURE TO A RIDICULOUS 26P.S.I. ON A V-8 FULL-SIZED PICK-UP WITH A HEAVY FOUR-WHEEL-DRIVE DRIVELINE. ALSO, THE TIRE INFORMATION STICKER PLACED ON THE VEHICLE DOESN'T EVEN HAVE THE INFLATION RECOMMENDATION FOR THE TIRES ON THE VEHICLE. I'M AFRAID OF A SERIOUS ACCIDENT DUE TO A TIRE BLOW-OUT.

STEERING WHEEL COCKED TO RIGHT, STEERING WHEEL NOT CENTERED. DEALER SAYS ALIGNMENT OK.
WHILE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN EXCESSIVE NOISE OCCURS IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT CAUSE UNKNOWN. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
VIBRATION IN FRONT ENT 55-64 MPH TIRES AND RIMS REPACED AT LEAST 3 TIMES. DEALER AND TOYOTA UNABLE TO CORRECT PROBLEM. VIBRATION IN STEERING WHEEL VARIES WITH TEMPERATURE CONDITIONS. WORSE IN TEMPERATURES ABOVE 70 F. DEALER AND TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE PROBLEM. THIS VIBRATION WAS EVIDENT DURING INITIAL ROAD TEST AND APPEARED TO BE TIRE BALANCING ISSUE. ADDITIONALLY, TOYOTA IS REQUIRING UNDER INFLATED PRESSURIZATION OF TIRES AGAINST MANUFACTURERS RECOMMENDATION WHICH MAY BE HIDING A MORE SIGNIFICANT ISSUE WITH THE FRONTEND CONDITION OF THIS MODEL TRUCK. WHEN DEALER REPRESENTATIVE FROM TOYAOTA TEST DROVE MY VEHICLE THIS WEEK, HE STATED THAT THE VIBRATION WAS WITHIN TOYAOTAS SPECIFICATION. BUT HE WAS UNABLE TO PRODUCE THE DETAILS OF SUCH SPECIFICATION. I URGE YOU TO INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE WITH THESE TIRES AND TOYOTAS RECOMMENDATION FOR UNDERINFLATION. I HAVE HAD THE BRAKES REPLACED TWICE ON THIS CAR ONCE AT 8K MILES AND AGAIN AT 14K I AM ALERTING YOU OF THIS PROBLEM AS I HAVE SEEN MANY OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THE BRAKES BEGIN TO SHUDDER AND THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES. I AM RUNNING ON A NEW SET OF DISCS IN THE FRONT AND ROTORS IN THE BACK AFTER ONLY 14,000 MILES. *AK
REAR DRUM AND FRONT DISC BRAKES AND ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED SINCE DATE OF PURCHASE. VEHICLE VIBRATES WHEN BRAKE PEDAL IS PRESSED. THIS HAPPENS ON WET AND DRY ROADS.*AK BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPAIRED FIVE TIMES.

BY THE TIME VEHICAL HAD REACHED 45000 MILES, THE BRAKES HAD BEEN REPLACED SIX (6) ADDITIONAL TIMES,AND FOR THE SAME REASON. DEALERSHIP VERY COOPERATIVE AND HAS ADVISED ME THAT TOYOTA KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH BRAKES ON TUNDRA AND HAS ASSIGNED A "TECHNIQAL TEAM " TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM.WHAT DO I AND OTHER TUNDRA OWNERS, ESPECIALLY THOSE WITH VEHICALS OUT OF WARRENTY LIKE MINE,DO UNTIL THE BRAKE PROBLEM IS SOLVED. AFTER PUTTING A FEW THOUSAND MILES ON TRUCK, CONSUMER WOULD APPLY THE BRAKES AND STEERING WHEEL WOULD VIBRATE IN HANDS. BRAKES ON TRUCK HAVE BEEN CHANGED TWICE. MECHANIC HAD INDICATED THE PROBLEM WAS WITH THE ROTORS.*AK CONSUMER REPLACED ROTORS, DRUMS, TIRES, SHOCKS AND BALANCED WHEELS, PROBLEMS WITH WARPED DRUMS AND VIBRATION STILL EXIST. *TT
BRAKES OVERHEAT ON TRUCK, REPLACE FRONT BRAKES ROTORS, AT 40,000 MILES BRAKES CHATTERING AND OVER HEATING AND LOSING STOPPING POWER.

I TOOK THE TRUCK TO VAN TROW TOYOTA IN MONROE, LA DUE TO THE FRONT END SHAKING WHEN BRAKING. THE TRUCK HAD AROUND 15000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TOOK THE TRUCK FOR A RIDE AND THEN LOOKED AT IT IN THE SHOP. I WAS TOLD THAT THAT BRAKES WHERE NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THAT I SHOULD TAKE IT TO MIDAS BECAUSE THEY WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM CHEAPER THEN TOYOTA. THE GUYS AT MIDAS SAID THE REAR BRAKES WHERE NOT WORKING AND THAT THE TRUCK WAS STOPPING ON JUST THE FRONT BRAKES. MIDAS ADJUSTED THE REAR BRAKES, REPLACED THE FRONT PADS, AND TURNED THE FRONT ROTORS. I WAS CHARGED AROUND $200. THE TRUCK NOW HAS ALMOST 30,000 MILES AND I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH IT AGAIN. I AM GOING TO TAKE IT TO TOYOTA AND SEE IF THEY WILL DO ANYTHING BUT I DO NOT EXPECT THEM TO. THIS IS MY FIRST TOYOTA AND IT MAY BE MY LAST. IF I CAN NOT GET THIS FIXED SOON THEN I MAY BE LOOKING FOR A NEW TRUCK. MAYBE THAT IS WHAT TOYOTA NEEDS TO HEAR SO THEY WILL FIX THE PROBLEM. *AK

STEERING WHEEL SHIMMY AND VIBRATION FELT IN VEHICLE AT SPEEDS 40-65 ,ALSO THE VEHICLE DRIFTS TO THE LEFT UP THE CROWN OF THE ROAD IN TO ON COMING TRAFFIC LANE. TIRES AND WHEELS HAVE BEEN CHANGED TIRES HAVE BEEN REBALANCED FOUR OR FIVE TIMES . THEY RECHECK THE ALIGNMENT THREE OR FOUR TIMES CHECKS OUT IN SPECTS WHEN WE TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE THEY SEE AND FEEL THE PROBLEM BUT SAY ITS OPERATING WITHIN TOYOTA SPECIFICATIONS AND THAT NO FUTHER ACTION WILL BE TAKEN FOR THIS CONDITION. WAS TOLD THAT ITS A TRUCK AND THATS THE THEY DRIVE.WHEN YOUR UNDER THE TRUCK AND HAVE SOME ONE STEER THE WHEEL BACK AND FORTH THE RACK CAN BE SEEN MOVEING AROUND. WHEN DRIVING ON WET ROADS THE VEHICLE WILL FEEL OUT OF CONTOL .HAVE ALSO FELT VIBRATION WHEN COMEING TO A STOP AT LOW SPEEDS. *AK
THE BRAKES VIBRATE VERY BADLY UPON BRAKING. *AK
ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS ENGINE WOULD SHUT DOWN WITH NO WARNING. TOYOTA HAS SENT CONSUMER A DIP STICK TO REPLACE ORIGINAL ONE THAT CAME WITH TRUCK. TRUCK WAS NOT RUNNING DUE TO SLUDGE OR SOME OTHER DEFICIENCY AS STATED BY DEALERSHIP. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS. *AK
THERE IS A CONSTANT VIBRATION WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. THE DEALER CLAIMS THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE VIBRATION CONTINUED IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE SERVICE VISIT. IT IS MORE THAN AN ANNOYANCE, ESPECIALLY SCARY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS.*AK
