THE FRONT FRAME ON THE PASSENGER SIDE HAS A LARGE RUST HOLE COMPLETELY THROUGH IT, BY THE SWAY ARM BRACKET, AND THAT BRACKET ITSELF IS LOOSE AND HANGING. THE VEHICLE HAS 139,000 MILES ON IT.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V444000 (STRUCTURE) FOUR YEARS AGO; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 204,000.
TAKATA RECALL ALTHOUGH CURRENTLY TOYOTA CLAIMS MY TRUCK IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL I HAVE THE SAME AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT THAT THOSE WHO ARE PART OF THE RECALL HAVE. I SEARCHED MY MAKE MODEL AND YEAR ON LINE AND FOUNDS HUNDREDS OF OTHERS WHO ARE HAVING AIRBAG ISSUES BUT WE'RE EXCLUDED FROM THE RECALL.
THE FRAME ON MY 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA IS RUSTING AND HAS HOLES COMPLETELY THRU THE FRAME. THE TRUCK HAS ALWAYS BEEN REGISTERED AND LICENSED SINCE NEW AND MY PROBLEM IS NEVER RECEIVING A RECALL NOTICE. WHEN I LEARNED FROM A FRIEND THAT TUNDRA FRAME HAD BEEN REPLACED, I CALLED TOYOTA FOR MY FRAME REPLACEMENT. TOYOTA SAID THE RECALL EXPIRED AND REFUSED TO MAKE THE REPAIR. OTHER THAT THE FRAME, THE TRUCK IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED. IT IS SAD TO HAVE AN EXCELLENT TRUCK SETTING ON A FRAME THAT IS RUSTING AWAY. HOW CAN TOYOTA SELL A DEFECTIVE TRUCK AND IDENTIFY IT AS UNSAFE, FAIL TO CONTACT THE OWNER AND THEN REFUSE TO REPAIR THE TRUCK SAYING THE OWNER MISSED THE DEADLINE. TOYOTA COULD HAVE CONTACTED ME BUT I NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTIFICATION. I ASKED IF TOYOTA COULD OFFER ANY CREDIT ON A REPLACEMENT, EVEN SOME CONSIDERATION ON A NEW TUNDRA AND TOYOTA REFUSED TO MAKE ANY EFFORT TO ASSIST ME. I CURRENTLY OWN FOUR TOYOTAS. BUYERS BEWARE! *TR
HAD TO REPLACE ALL 4 OXYGEN SENSORS. THE FRONT TWO WERE FAULTY BEFORE 50000 MILES AND LESS THAN 7 YEARS OLD. THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL COVER IS ROTTING AND LEAKING FLUID. THE ONLY WAY TO REPAIR IT IS TO WELD OVER THE HOLE.
COLUMN SHIFTER BROKE AWAY FROM SHIFT COLUMN WITH VERY LITTLE FORCE WHEN SHIFTING IN REVERSE. ATTEMPTING TO BACK OUT OF PARKING SPOT. HAD TO JUMP ON BRAKE TO AVOID LOSING CONTROL OF VEHICLE.
FUEL TANK RUSTED
PART OF THE FRAME ON MY TRUCK HAS ONE LARGE RUST HOLE AND A SMALLER RUST HOLE. I SPOKE WITH TOYOTA ABOUT IT FOR THE FIRST TIME ON SATURDAY OCTOBER 22, 2016 AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE FRAME IS STILL COVERED UNTIL DECEMBER 2016. I RECEIVED A FOLLOW UP CALL LIKE I WAS TOLD ON MONDAY OCTOBER 24, 2016 ONLY FOR MY CASE MANAGER TO INFORM ME IT WAS NOT COVERED. SHE SAID THE FIRST LADY I SPOKE WITH WAS WRONG ABOUT WHAT SHE TOLD ME. NOW I'M STUCK WITH A TRUCK THAT HAS MAJOR RUST ISSUES.
VEHICLE FRAME HAS RUSTED THROUGH IN PLACES AND HAS DETERIORATED BY FLAKING IN OTHER LOCATIONS ON THE FRAME. ALSO POWER STEERING RACK HAS RUSTED THROUGH. THE TRUCK HAS LESS THAN 61000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA IN LATE OCTOBER, 2016. AFTER SPEAKING WITH A TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE, THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM AS THEIR RECALL ON THE FRAME WAS GOOD ONLY UNTIL 12-31-2012.
REAR AXLE SEALS HAVE FAILED FOUR TIMES IN THE PAST FIVE YEARS. WHEN THEY FAIL, THE REAR BRAKES BECOME COATED WITH OIL, SIGNIFICANTLY INCREASING STOPPING DISTANCE.
VEHICLE MADE WHINING NOISE AFTER GOING FROM PARK TO DRIVE. MOVED A FEW FEET AND STEERING BECAME VERY DIFFICULT. LEAKING TRAIL OF FLUID UNDERNEATH. PRIVATE MECHANIC CONFIRMED TODAY THAT THE POWER STEERING RACK IS COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH AND WAS THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK. VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 137K MILES. HAD I BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY, THIS WOULD HAVE BEEN DISASTROUS. I HAD JUST BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY.
THERE IS EXCESSIVE RUST ACROSS THE ENTIRE REAR END OF THE TRUCK. THE REAR AXLE CASING HAS STARTED TO DETERIORATE TO THE POINT THAT DIFFERENTIAL FLUID IS LEAKING FROM THE CASING. I HAVE ALREADY HAD TO HAVE THE FRAME, SPARE TIRE AND FUEL TANK REPLACED DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT NOTICED SEVERE RUST ON THE FRONT CROSS MEMBERS AND THE FRAME. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE RECALL EXPIRED AND THE REPAIR COST WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
NOTIFIED OF SAFETY RECALL ON VEHICLE FOR RUST ON FRAME THAT WILL CAUSE STRUCTURAL FAILURE THAT CAN LEAD TO LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. TOOK VEHICLE TO TOYOTA DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. WAS TOLD THE REPAIR WAS MADE. INFORMED BY INSPECTION SERVICE CENTER THE REPAIR WAS NOT EFFECTIVE 8/10/2012, NOTIFIED TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE 8/11/2016 OF THE PROBLEM THEY OPENED CASE #1608102651. I CONTACTED THEM AGAIN 8/12/2016 AND WAS INFORMED BY THE CASE MANAGER TOYOTA WOULD NOT INSPECT OR REPAIR THE VEHICLE. SHE INDICATED THE RECALL WAS LISTED AS LIMITED SERVICE AND NOT A SAFETY RECALL. SHE INDICATED THIS WAS AN ON-GOING ISSUE AND SEVERAL RECALLS HAD LAPSED FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. BECAUSE THE RECALL HAD EXPIRED TOYOTA WAS NO LONGER RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DEFECT. THEY ONLY RUST ON THE VEHICLE IS ON THE DEFECTIVE FRAME. A RECALL REPAIR THAT DOES NOT FIX THE PROBLEM IS USELESS.

TAKATA RECALL ALTHOUGH A TEST OF MY VIN NUMBER IN THE NHTSA DATABASE CAME UP NEGATIVE ON THE TAKATA RECALL, THERE HAVE BEEN CREDIBLE REPORTS, BY THE NEW YORK TIMES ,USA TODAY, AND AUTOMOBILE ENTHUSIAST WEBSITES, THAT 2002 TUNDRAS DO HAVE DEFECTIVE TAKATA AIRBAGS. SOME REPORTS ARE SPECIFIC IN SAYING THE BAGS ARE IN TUNDRAS SOLD IN THE GULF STATES, WHICH IS THE DISTRIBUTOR FOR MY DEALER IN JACKSON, MISS. CAN YOU INVESTIGATE THIS DISCREPANCY? IT IS TROUBLING THAT CREDIBLE SOURCES SEEMS TO BE IN CONFLICT, ESPECIALLY IN LIGHT OF THE VERY SPECIFIC FACTS RELATING TO TUNDRAS SOLD IN THE GULF STATES REGION. THANK YOU. TAKATA RECALL MY TUNDRA IS A 2002 SO NOT CURRENTLY INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON OVER A YEAR AGO AND THE MECHANIC SAYS IT IS NON-FUNCTIONING, I HEAR THIS IS A COMMON 2002 PROBLEM. THEY SHOULD ALSO BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.

DIFFICULT TO START AND ENGINE DIES WHEN DRIVING
I RECENTLY FOUND OUT ABOUT A PROBLEM WITH THE FRAMES OF CERTAIN TOYOTA TUNDRAS FROM A COWORKER. I FOUND THAT MY TRUCK FELL INTO THE CATEGORY, HOWEVER I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF ANY RECALLS OR SAFETY ACTIONS. I BROUGHT MY TRUCK INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER WILL BE REPLACED AS WELL AS THE FUEL TANK STRAPS AND A COATING CAN BE APPLIED TO THE REAR PART OF THE FRAME. I ASKED HOW THE REST OF THE FRAME WAS AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS MAJOR ROT IN THE FRONT SECTION. I CALLED TOYOTA AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY WOULD DO ABOUT IT AS THE RECALL OR SAFETY ACTION EXPIRED ON 31 MARCH 2016. I EXPRESSED TO THEM THAT I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF ANYTHING ABOUT THE FRAMES AND WAS BASICALLY TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY WOULD DO. I AM NOW STUCK WITH A TRUCK WITH A ROTTED OUT FRAME THAT TOYOTA IS NOT WILLING TO STAND BY, EVEN THOUGH I ONLY MISSED THE DEADLINE BY A MONTH AND A HALF, DUE TO THEM.

THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY TAKEN TO THE DEALER PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V444000 (STRUCTURE); HOWEVER, THE DEALER REFUSED TO PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIR STATING THAT THE REPAIR COMPOUND WAS NOT BEING SENT BY THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REFUSED TO PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIR, STATING THAT THEY WERE NO PERFORMING THE RECALL REPAIR. THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V444000 (STRUCTURE), BUT THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED SIGNS OF CORROSION AFTER THE RECALL REMEDY WAS APPLIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 330,000.

THE VEHICLE RECEIVED AN UNDERCOATING; HOWEVER, IT FAILED TO ELIMINATE FURTHER FRAME RUST. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD FRACTURE WHILE DRIVING AND CAUSED SEVERE INJURIES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,298.
WE HAVE A SERIOUS RUST ISSUE WITH OUR 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA. TOYOTA REPLACED A FRAME BUT REATTACHED ALL THE ALREADY RUSTED PIECES BACK ONTO THE NEW FRAME. THE BREAK LINE HAS RUSTED THROUGH ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. WE HAVE GONE THROUGH A RED LIGHT & STOP SIGN. NO WAS HURT, WE WERE LUCKY BUT THIS TRUCK IS A DEATH TRAP. WE HAVE HIT THE SIDE OF THE GARAGE TRYING TO GET IT OUT OF GEAR BECAUSE EVERYTHING IS SO RUSTED. WE HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA & HAVE BEEN TOLD IT'S A MAINTENANCE ISSUE NOT A DEFECT. THIS TRUCK 100% A DEFECT! IT IS A PILE OF METAL SITTING IN OUR DRIVEWAY BECAUSE I REFUSE TO PUT MY FAMILY IN IT. IT US IRRESPONSIBLE TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLES, SO IN OUR & THE PUBLICS BEST INTEREST IT SITS IN OUR DRIVEWAY.
OUR 2002 TUNDRA AIRBAGS HAVE STOPPED WORKING AND A WARNING LIGHT HAS APPEARED, PER MECHANIC THEY WILL NOT INFLATE IF THERE IS AN ACCIDENT. WHEN I ENTER THE VIN IT STATES THAT MY TRUCK IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 164,000.

FRIST TIME COMEING DOWN MY ROAD GOING 30 MILES PER HR L RIGHT UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINT BROKE TIRE WENT UNDER THE TRUCK. SECOND TIME THE LEFT UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINT BROKE TURNING A CORNER. THIRD TIME IT HAPPEN I JUST GOT OFF OF THE HWY AND THE LOWER BALL JOINT BROKE. I AM AFIED TO DRIVE IT .
FRAME IS RUSTED. WORRIED ABOUT IT'S SAFETY.
WHEN INSTALLING SIDE RAILS I DISCOVERED THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE HAD RUSTED THRU AT THE LOCATION I WAS GOING TO DRILL A HOLE. THE TRUCK WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION AND THERE ARE SAFETY CONCERNS. TOYOTA WILL NOT ADDRESS THE ISSUE. THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS FOR FRAME ISSUES IN THE PAST AND IT APPEARS TOYOTA HAS NOT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. THERE MAY BE MANY MORE VEHICLES OUT THERE AND DO NOT KNOW THEY HAVE A WEAKENED FRAME. TOYOTA NEEDS TO DO MORE TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE.
I FOUND PORTIONS OF THE FRAME RUSTED THRU AND COULD NOT MOUNT STEP BARS. I MENTIONED THIS EARLIER IN A REPORT. I ALSO JUST FOUND MY SPARE TIRE MISSING AND FOUND THE BRACKET HOLDING IT HAD RUSTED AND THE TIRE WAS LOST WHILE DRIVING. WHEN AND WHERE IS UNKNOWN. TOYOTA EXAMINED THE TRUCK 2 YEARS AGO FOR A RECALL FOR RUST ISSUES AND SAID EVERYTHING WAS OK.THE TIRE LOSS IS IRRITATING AND DANGEROUS TO OTHER DRIVERS.

THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRAME HAD CRACKED DUE TO CORROSION AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V444000 (STRUCTURE). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000.
WHEN STARTED TRUCK, HEARD UNUSUAL WHINING NOISE. STARTED DRIVING AND STEERING BECAME DIFFICULT. STOPPED IN PARKING LOT AND FOUND POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKING OUT ON GROUND. ENTIRE RACK AND PINION SHOWING EXCESSIVE CORROSION AND LEAKING FLUID. WAS ABLE TO DRIVE TO TOYOTA DEALER. THEY ESTIMATE $1200 FOR AFTER MARKET REPAIR, AND $1600 FOR REPAIR WITH TOYOTA PARTS. TRUCK NOT SAFE TO DRIVE UNTIL REPAIRED. 2002 TUNDRA SR5
I HAD THE FRAME RUST UNDER COATING 'BAND AID' APPLIED TO MY 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA BY A TOYOTA DEALER IN LYNCHBURG VA IN 2011. THE FRAME RUST HAS REAPPEARED SO I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER ASKING FOR A NEW BAND AID TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NO WARRANTY ON THE FIRST FIX AND TOYOTA WILL DO NOTHING. I FEEL LIKE IT IS TOYOTA'S RESPONCEABILITY TO REPAIR OR FIX THE UNDERBODY RUST PROBLEM BECAUSE THEY KNEW ABOUT THIS AND ARE TRYING NOT TO FULFILL THEIR OBLIGATION UNDER THE RUST RECALL AGREEMEENT WITH THE COURT.
TOOK THE TRUCK IN FOR RECALL INSPECTION OF REAR AS PER RECALL NOTICE #BXD SSC. WAS TOLD BY SUNNYSIDE TOYOTA THAT THE REAR PART WAS FINE BUT THE OTHER PART OF FRAME IS BADLY CORRODED. THEY/AND THE TOYOTA MANUFACTURER SAID THAT THIS PORTION OF FRAME IS NOT COVERED UNDER RECALL. ESTIMATE OF REPAIR COST $15,000. REMARKS ON VEHICLE INSPECTION REPORT: 99 FRONT SECTION OF FRAME HAS A LARGE HOLE THAT WE FEEL IS GETTING TO THE POINT OF BEING DANGEROUS/NOT PART OF BXD CAMPAIGN
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE STREET AND THE SPARE TIRE FELL OFF. IT ACTUALLY CAUSED THE TRUCK TO BOUNCE UP SLIGHTLY. LUCKILY THE TIRE DID NOT CONTACT ANY OTHER VEHICLES. THING TO NOTE: MY TRUCK WAS PART OF THE FRAME CORROSION RECALL ISSUED BY TOYOTA. AT THE TIME, THEY DID NOT REPLACE THE FRAME BUT ONLY COVERED THE RUST WITH SOME COATING. THAT DID NOT STOP NOR SLOW THE RUST. THE "BAND AID" THEY USED WAS INSUFFICIENT AT SOLVING THE PROBLEM, IT ONLY COVERED IT TEMPORARILY. *TR

TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 15V285000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED FOR AN UNRELATED ISSUE, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V444000 (STRUCTURE). THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE DEALER SPRAYED CORROSION PROTECTION INSTEAD OF REPLACING THE FRAME. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE RECALL REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 199,000.
I WOULD LIKE TO REPORT AN UNSAFE CONDITION DISCOVERED ON MY 2002 TUNDRA. WITH 158000 IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT HALF OF THE FRAME HAS ROTTED OUT/ SEVERAL LARGE PERFORATIONS MAKE THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THIS IS EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE HAD GONE THROUGH A PREVIOUS RECALL CAMPAIGN IN WHICH THE FRAME WAS INSPECTED AND RUST INHIBITOR APPLIED TO REAR OF FRAME. *TR
VEHICLE HAS 121,000 MILES ON IT. THE FRAME HAS NOW CRACKED DUE TO RUST PERFORATION AND MAKES THE VEHICLE UNSAFE TO OPERATE. TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THE RUST ISSUES ON THEIR TUNDRA MODELS YEARS 2000-2003 AND HAS COMMENCED AT LEAST 3 DIFFERENT CAMPAIGNS TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE. THE TRUCK WAS BROUGHT IN FOR ALL 3 RECALLS THE LAST ONE IN 2012. TOYOTA'S SOLUTION WAS TO SPRAY THEM WITH RUST INHIBITOR AND SEND THE CUSTOMER ON THEIR WAY. THIS IS NOTHING MORE THAN PUTTING A BAND AID ON A HEMORRHAGING WOUND. MOST OF THE FRAMES HAD ALREADY EXPERIENCED FRAME CORROSION. WHEN I SPOKE TO TOYOTA'S CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER ON 4/15/15 THEY ISSUED ME A CASE NUMBER AND SAID I WOULD RECEIVE A CALL BACK. TOYOTA CALLED BACK TODAY 4/16/15 AND SAID THEY WOULD DO NOTHING FOR ME AS THE RUST CORROSION CAMPAIGN ENDED IN DECEMBER 2013. I THINK THE GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO STEP IN AND FORCE TOYOTA TO FIX OR REPLACE THESE TRUCKS.I AM SURE MANY OWNERS HAVE NO IDEA THEY ARE DRIVING AROUND WITH PERFORATED FRAMES THAT ARE UNSAFE. MY DAMAGED FRAME WAS DISCOVERED DURING A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE. *TR
TRUCK NEEDED SENSOR REPLACED FOR SAFETY INSPECTION STICKER (CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON). MECHANIC FOUND FRAME UNDERNEATH TO BE SO RUSTED HE WAS NOT COMFORTABLE WORKING ON THE TRUCK. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO LOCAL DEALER AND THEY AGREED THE TRUCK IS RUSTED TO POINT OF BEING UNSAFE. THEY TOOK PICTURES TO SEND CORPORATE FOR FRAME REPLACEMENT APPROVAL. REQUEST WAS DENIED. I THEN CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THEY AGREED TO ASSIGN A CASE NUMBER. I WAS EVENTUALLY TOLD THAT ALTHOUGH TRUCK IS UNSAFE, THERE IS NOTHING THEY WILL DO SINCE CAMPAIGN IS CLOSED. I HAD THE TRUCK SPRAYED AS INITIAL RECALL STATED. I RECEIVED NO OTHER RECALL OR REQUESTED SERVICE INFORMATION FROM TOYOTA. I NOW HAVE A TRUCK WITH LOW MILEAGE THAT WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION AND IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND TOYOTA WILL DO NOTHING TO MAKE SURE THEIR CUSTOMERS ARE SAFE OR CARE ABOUT THE SAFETY OF OTHER DRIVERS ON THE ROAD SHOULD PARTS OF MY FRAME START FALLING OFF WHILE DRIVING. I FIND THIS PRACTICE VERY NEGLECTFUL ESPECIALLY FOR A LARGE CORPORATION. I HAVE SEEN THAT MANY OTHERS ARE IN THE SAME POSITION WITH THEIR TUNDRA. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT CAN BE DONE TO RECTIFY THIS SAFETY ISSUE. TOYOTA SHOULD BE MADE ACCOUNTABLE. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE HAVING REPAIRS PERFORMED, THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DISCOVERED THAT THE FRAME REEL THAT CONNECTS THE LEAF SPRINGS HAD COMPLETELY RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. WHEN ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT FROM PARK TO REVERSE WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING AND THE BRAKE APPLIED, UNEXPECTEDLY THE COLUMN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTER COMPLETELY BROKE LOOSE FROM THE STEERING COLUMN. THE COLUMN BRACKET AND HOUSING WERE BOTH FOUND TO BE FRACTURED, WITH THE BRACKET SEPARATED FROM THE HOUSING. THIS RENDERED THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE. *TR
CRUISING AT 50 MPH SUDDENLY VEHICLE ACCELERATOR STOPS FUNCTIONING AND TRUCK COASTS SLOWLY TO SIDE OF ROAD. ENGINE SEEMS TO BE RUNNING NORMALLY, BUT NO ACCELERATION AT ALL. IN HEAVY TRAFFIC THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
VEHICLE HAS "GROWLING" NOISE COMING FROM FRONT DIFFERENTIAL. NOISE IS ALSO ASSOCIATED WITH VIBRATION IN STEERING AND AFFECTS STOPPING AND ACCELERATION AS FAULTY PARTS BIND IN GEARING. THIS FAULTY EQUIPMENT HAS OCCASIONALLY LOCKED ONE WHEEL WHILE TURNING, FORCING VEHICLE WEIGHT TO ONE SIDE. IN WET ROAD CONDITIONS VEHICLE HAS SLID WHILE CORNERING. MANUFACTURER IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, AS SEVERAL OWNERS REPORT THE SAME ISSUE. DIFFERENTIAL IS REPLACED AS A LAST RESORT BY THE MANUFACTURER AND ONLY COVERS THIS FAULTY PART(S) UNDER THE FACTORY WARRANTY. *JS
WHILE TRAVELING ON A CITY ROAD AT ABOUT 25 MPH, THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL CAME OFF. I WAS TOWED TO MY MECHANIC FOR REPAIR. BOTH THE TOW DRIVER AND MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THEY HAD SEEN THIS PREVIOUSLY IN TOYOTA TUNDRA'S. I LATER FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL (SSC 50 J) AND, AFTER EMAIL CORRESPONDENCE WITH TOYOTA AND DEALERSHIP APPROVAL OF THE WORKMANSHIP PERFORMED BY MY MECHANIC, APPLIED FOR A REFUND OF MY EXPENSES. WHEN I WAS DENIED THE FIRST TIME, THE SERVICE MANAGER AT HOLLYWOOD TOYOTA SAID THAT HE WOULD RESUBMIT BY FAX, SAYING THAT HE SAW NOTHING MORE THAT THE OFFICE COULD WANT AND THAT HE HAD SUBMITTED THE TOYOTA SERVICE ORDER FOR HIS INSPECTION OF MY TRUCK, A SERVICE ORDER WHICH THE OFFICE CLAIMED THEY DID NOT HAVE. THE CLAIM WAS DENIED AGAIN, THIS TIME BECAUSE I HAD NO RECORDS OF MAINTENANCE ON OR INSPECTION OF THE FAULTY BALL JOINTS. (THERE IS NO WAY TO MAINTAIN THE BALL JOINTS, AND THERE IS NO WAY TO INSPECT THEM, AS THEY ARE INSIDE A RUBBER BOOT.) THE DENIAL ALSO STATED THAT MY MECHANIC'S INVOICE WAS MISSING DETAIL, ALTHOUGH DID NOT STATE WHAT DETAIL WAS MISSING, EVEN UPON WRITTEN REQUEST. HOLLYWOOD TOYOTA'S SERVICE MANAGER SAID THE DETAIL ON MY INVOICE WAS GREATER THAN TOYOTA ITSELF PROVIDES AND CALLED SOMEONE UP THE LINE TO FIND OUT WHAT THE ISSUE WAS. HE CALLED MORE THAN ONCE. NO RESPONSE. AND, WHEN THERE WAS NO ANSWER AFTER TWO WEEKS, CALLED AGAIN. NOTHING. NOTE: IF THERE IS A WAY TO ATTACH, I WOULD LIKE TO ATTACH THE FULL COMPLAINT I HAVE WRITTEN UP AND WILL BE MAILING TO YOUR OFFICES.
I RECENTLY TOOK MY 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA TO THE RALPH HAYES TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN ANDERSON, SC FOR A REPAIR ON THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM. WHILE I WAS THERE, I WAS NOTIFIED THAT MY TRUCK WAS ON RECALL DUE TO CORROSION OF THE FRAME. I WAS TOLD THAT DUE TO THE RECALL I WILL BE GIVEN A RENTAL CAR, AT NO COST TO ME, WHILE MY TRUCK WAS TO HAVE THE FRAME INSPECTED AND REPAIRED. I AGREED TO THE INSPECTION AND WAS GIVEN A RENTAL FOR THE TIME MY TRUCK WAS AT THE SHOP. I RECEIVED A CALL ON 9/25/14 FROM THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND WAS PRESENTED WITH 3 OPTIONS. MY FIRST OPTION WAS TO HAVE THE NEW FRAME INSTALLED AT NO COST HOWEVER, IF ANY EXTRA PARTS ATTACHED TO THE FRAME NEED TO BE REPLACED I WAS TO GO AHEAD AND REPLACE THEM. I WAS THEN PRESENTED WITH THE PRICE OF AROUND $9,500 THAT I WAS GOING TO HAVE TO PAY IF I CHOSE THIS OPTION. MY SECOND OPTION WAS TO HAVE THE NEW FRAME INSTALLED AT NO COST AND ATTEMPT TO INSTALL MY CURRENT PARTS ONTO THE NEW FRAME. THE TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE EXPRESSED WITH THE CURRENT CONDITION OF THOSE PARTS I WILL NEED TO HAVE THEM REPLACED WITH THE COST STILL AT $9,500. MY THIRD OPTION WAS TO DECLINE THE RECALL AND DRIVE THE TRUCK AS IS WITH THE TRUCK DEEMED UNSAFE TO DRIVE BY THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THE TIME FRAME I WAS GIVEN TO MAKE A DECISION WAS SHORT OF NOTHING. I HAD TO MAKE A DECISION BY THE END OF THE PHONE CALL THAT MEANT SPENDING $9,500 OR DRIVE WITH AN UNSAFE VEHICLE THAT AT ANY GIVEN MOMENT COULD CAUSE A SERIOUS OR FATAL ACCIDENT. I WAS FORCED INTO DECLINING THE RECALL BECAUSE I DO NOT HAVE $9,500 IN MY BANK ACCOUNT. ALSO, AFTER I CONCLUDED MY BUSINESS WITH THE DEALERSHIP, I PROCEEDED TO ASK THEM WHAT THE TRADE IN VALUE ON MY TRUCK WAS TO SEE IF BUYING ANOTHER VEHICLE WAS AN OPTION. THEIR RESPONSE WAS $500 DUE TO THE RECALLED FRAME THUS TRADING IN AND PURCHASING A NEW VEHICLE IS NOT A VIABLE OPTION. WOULD YOU MIND REVIEWING MY CASE? *TR
