TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH, THE VEHICLE MADE AN ABNORMAL NOISE AND THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FUEL TANK HAD SEPARATED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO RUST AND REPLACED THE FUEL TANK STRAPS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE OBSERVED THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WAS RUSTED AND LEAKING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 117,000.
WHEN DRIVING OVER UNEQUAL PAVEMENT ON ROAD, FELT AND HEARD NOISE AT REAR OF VEHICLE. SAW WHEEL TUMBLING DOWN ROAD BEHIND VEHICLE. STOPPED VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT IT WAS SPARE TIRE FROM VEHICLE. PLACED SPARE TIRE IN BED OF TRUCK AND WHEN I GOT HOME, NOTICED THAT THE BRACKET/PLATE THAT WAS SECURING THE SPARE TIRE TO THE UNDERSIDE OF THE BED HAD SEPARATED FROM THE CABLE THAT WAS HOLDING IT IN PLACE. THE BRACKET/PLATE WAS SO CORRODED/RUSTED THAT WHEN THE TRUCK HIT THE BUMP, THE WEIGHT OF THE SPARE WHEEL CAUSED IT TO COLLAPSE AND ALLOWED THE SPARE TIRE TO FALL ONTO THE ROAD. *JS
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO PUT THE TRUCK IN GEAR TO LEAVE A GAS STATION THE ENTIRE SHIFTER MECHANISM BROKE OFF AT THE MOUNT WITHIN THE STEERING COLUMN. AFTER 1 GOOGLE SEARCH IT SHOWS THIS IS VERY COMMON WITH MY TUNDRA TRUCK (MANY POSTINGS AND COMPLAINTS-ISSUES). I WAS IN A PICKLE TO MOVE MY VEHICLE AND WAS NOT SAFE IN DOING SO. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE STRUT SHEARED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.THE APPROXIMATE MILEAGE AT THE TIME OF FAILURE WAS 118,000.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH WHEN THE LOWER CONTROL ARM CAME APART FROM MY BALL JOINT ON THE DRIVER SIDE. MY WIFE AND I SPUN UNCONTROLLABLY WITH SPARKS SHOOTING EVERYWHERE. WE WERE ABLE TO COME TO A STOP ONCE THE VEHICLE DUG ITSELF INTO THE DIRT OF THE MEDIAN. IT WAS SUCH AN EMBARRASSMENT FOR MYSELF AS I HAVE HELD THE NAME "TOYOTA" TO THE HIGHEST STANDARD BEFORE ALL OTHER AUTO MAKER. AFTER THE INCIDENT, I AM NOW DOING RESEARCH AND THERE HAD BEEN A SIMILAR RECALL IN 2005. I MOVED TO A DIFFERENT STATE DURING THIS TIME AND DID NOT RECEIVE OR KNOW OF A RECALL NOTICE. WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A TURN, I HEARD A SOUND FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. UPON INVESTIGATING THE NOISE, I FOUND THE REAR STRAP THAT SECURES THE GAS TANK TO THE FRAME HAD RUSTED THROUGH. THE GAS TANK WAS LEFT HANGING BY ONLY THE FRONT STRAP. WHAT HAPPENS IF A GAS TANK FALLS OFF A VEHICLE? *TR
AS PART OF A RECALL, MY 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA REQUIRED FRAME REPAIR FOR DAMAGE DUE TO RUST/CORROSION, THE STRAPS HOLDING THE GAS TANK WERE RUSTED AND ALSO NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WHEN THE REPLACEMENT OF THE STRAPS WAS MADE, THE GAS TANK WHICH WAS ALSO RUSTED AND NOT REPLACED AS PART OF RECALL WAS DAMAGED AND A GAS LEAK OCCURRED. I HAVE ALREADY BEEN FACED WITH AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION DUE TO THE FAILURE OF A CROSS BRACE WHICH CAUSED THE SPARE TIRE TO RELEASE ON THE HIGHWAY; NOW I AM CONCERNED THAT THE FAULTY GAS TANK WILL CAUSE A FIRE. I HAVE CALLED AND VISITED TOYOTA NUMEROUS TIMES TO REQUEST ASSISTANCE BUT NO REPAIR OR REPLACEMENT HAS BEEN OFFERED. *TR
AFTER PROPER MAINTENANCE AND ALSO BEING TOLD THAT THIS 2002 TUNDRA WAS NOT RECALLED DUE TO FRAME RUST AND DISINTEGRATION, THIS VEHICLE IS NOW DEEMED UNFIT BY THREE INDEPENDENT MECHANICS/WELDERS DUE TO HOLES IN THE FRAME. THERE IS PERVASIVE AND EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. WHEN ASSISTANCE FROM TOYOTA WAS SOUGHT, A CASE MANAGER WAS ASSIGNED (CASE NUMBER 1405021511) AND THE FINAL RULING WAS THAT OUR TUNDRA DID NOT QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL AND THEREFORE TOYOTA WAS NOT RESPONSIBLE. IT IS NEGLIGENT ON THE PART OF TOYOTA TO NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE IN FINDING A SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM. THE FRAME ISSUE IS A DIRECT RESULT OF NEGLIGENT MANUFACTURE. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO DEALER WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THE LOWER BALL JOINT WAS FRACTURED AND THE CV JOINT WAS DAMAGED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE CONTACT'S VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V225000 (SUSPENSION). THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SUFFERED MILD BACK PAIN FROM THE INCIDENT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKED, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED THAT THE BRAKE LINE WAS LEAKING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR FRAMING MEMBER HAD ROTTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 101,300.
THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS FLASHING AND I AM CONCERNED THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM RELATED TO THE AIRBAG RECALL THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE THE 2002 MODEL YEAR TOYOTA TUNDRA.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE'S FRAME WAS RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LEE TOYOTA (115 MAIN ST, TOPSHAM, ME 04086, (207) 729-3358) AND THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT ASSIST. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN UNKNOWN FACILITY FIVE YEARS AGO FOR AN UNKNOWN RECALL REPAIR RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TREATED WITH AN UNDERCOATING FOR THE FRAME TO PREVENT RUSTING; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WORSENED. LEE TOYOTA ALSO STATED THAT THEY COULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE, BUT WOULD HELP REFER THE CONTACT TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO COULD HELP WELD THE FRAME. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON AND TOOK IT TO MECHANIC WHO SAID THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE PASSENGER BAG AND IT IS DEACTIVATED. THIS SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM THAT MANY OTHERS ARE ALSO HAVING FROM THE COMPLAINTS I HAVE READ.
I NOTICED A POOL OF OIL UNDER MY REAR AXLE. I INSPECTED IT AND SAW THAT THE WELDS WERE FAILING DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST. I HAD THE FRAME AND BRAKE LINES REPLACED UNDER THE RECALL AND THIS IS CLEARLY RELATED TO THE RUST PROBLEMS (I HAD THE POWER STEERING RACK REPLACE LAST MONTH DUE TO RUST) BUT TOYOTA WON'T FIX IT UNTIL THERE IS A RECALL. I HAD IT REPAIRED (THE WHOLE AXEL REPLACED) AT A LOCAL GARAGE FOR APPROX. $2,340. WITH THE POWER STEERING RACK REPAIR THAT COMES TO ~ $3,300 IN LESS THAN 2 MONTHS. THE GARAGE SAID THEY SEE THESE PROBLEMS ALL THE TIME ON THE TUNDRAS WITH THE FRAME RECALL. *TR
LAST YEAR MY SPARE TIRE AND HOLDING BRACKET TORE LOOSE FROM THE FRAME AND ONTO THE HIGHWAY. I WENT TO A LOCAL GARAGE TO FIND THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FRAME IS SO CORRODED IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. LATTER WE LEARNED THAT THERE HAD BEEN TWO MAJOR SAFETY RECALLS ON THE 2002 TUNDRA.MANY WERE NOTIFIED OF THESE RECALLS AND HAD NEW FRAMES INSTALLED BY TOYOTA AT NO COST TO THE OWNERS. WE WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THESE RECALLS BY THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE BOUGHT THE TRUCK NOR BY TOYOTA CORPORATION.IN NOVEMBER 2013 WE WENT TO SHEPARD TOYOTA IN ROCKLAND WHERE WE BOUGHT THE TRUCK AND THEY TOLD US THAT THE RECALL HAD EXPIRED.I THEN SENT A LETTER BY CERTIFIED MAIL TO TOYOTA CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE CENTER ON DECEMBER 30, 2013. THEY DID NOT REPLY. THERE WERE 2 MAJOR SAFETY RECALLS ON MY TRUCK AND I WAS NOT NOTIFIED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE OF THE VEHICLE LEANED OVER THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACTS RESIDENCE, WHERE THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE LOWER BALL JOINT NUT WAS SHEERED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY INCLUDED IN AND REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V225000 (SUSPENSION). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000.
I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN AND COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND WAS UNABLE TO COMPLETE THE TURN, STOPPING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. ONE OF THE CONNECTIONS ON THE POWER STEERING RACK HAD COMPLETELY SEPARATED DUE TO RUST AND THE POWER STEERING FLUID WAS POURING OUT. IF I HAD BEEN GOING AT HIGHER SPEEDS (SUCH AS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY OR TAKING AN OFF RAMP) IT WOULD HAVE BEEN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS IT WOULD HAVE BEEN HARD TO IMPOSSIBLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL. THE RUST IS CLEARLY EXCESSIVE AND HARD TO BELIEVE IT IS NOT RELATED TO THE RECALL THAT COVERED THE FRAME AND BRAKE LINES (WHICH I HAD REPLACED UNDER THE RECALL A FEW YEARS BACK AFTER SOME TROUBLE WITH THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMING IT DID NOT QUALIFY). A LOCAL GARAGE REPLACED THE STEERING RACK AT A COST OF OVER $900. I TOOK PHOTOS OF THE FAILED RACK. I CALLED THE NATIONAL TOYOTA NUMBER AND HAD A CASE MANAGER ASSIGNED TO MY COMPLAINT. THE BEST THAT TOYOTA OFFERED WAS TO HAVE ME TOW IT AT MY EXPENSE TO THE DEALERSHIP 40 MILES AWAY TO HAVE THEM INSPECT IT WHILE THE DEALER WAS TELLING ME THEY HAVE SEEN A NUMBER OF THESE FAIL AND TOYOTA HAS NOT BEEN ADMITTING THAT THE PROBLEM WITH THEM IS THEIR FAULT. I HAVE A 1998 COROLLA THAT HAS NO RUST ISSUES AT AFTER THE SAME CONDITIONS FOR MORE YEARS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE TIRE BECAME DETACHED UNEXPECTEDLY FROM THE VEHICLE. THERE WAS A LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SKID 35-40 FEET BEFORE PROCEEDING TO STOP. THE VEHICLE THEN COLLAPSED TO THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, IN WHICH BOTH INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE BRAKE LINES AND THE FRAME WAS CORRODED. IN ADDITION, THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE BALL JOINT WAS DEFECTIVE. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBERS: 09V444000 (STRUCTURE) AND 05V225000 (SUSPENSION) HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN EITHER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 250,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
SEVERELY RUSTED FRAME. MAY IMPACT STRUCTURAL INTEGRITY. JUST LEARNED THAT A NEIGHBOR HAD THEIR FRAME REPLACED RECENTLY, AND DISCOVERED MY FRAME IS SEVERELY RUSTED TOO. TODAY TOYOTA DEALER SAID THERE WAS A RECALL (BUT IT ENDED LAST YEAR). I NEVER GOT A NOTIFICATION (LETTER) OF THE RECALL. DEALER COULD NOT MAKE THE REPAIRS FOR ME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, A LOUD NOISE DRAGGING NOISE WAS HEARD. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS DRAGGING ON THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER AND DIAGNOSED THAT THE UNIVERSAL JOINT HAD BECOME FRACTURED AND AS RESULT, THE DRIVE SHAFT AND FUEL TANK WERE DROPPED. THE CONTACT DECIDED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO A SECOND DEALER FOR AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FRAME WAS CRACKED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 170,000.
WE HAD TAKEN OUR VEHICLE IN FOR A RECALL TO OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THE FRAME OF OUR VEHICLE WAS NOT BAD BUT THEY DID THE UNDERCOAT OPTION. THAT WAS LESS THAN A YEAR AGO AND NOW OUR FRAME ON OUR VEHICLE IS SEVERELY RUSTED AND THEY ARE SAYING THERE IS NOTHING WE CAN DO ABOUT IT BECAUSE THE TIME HAS EXPIRED. WE ALSO CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY SAID THAT IT WAS EXPIRED AND IT IS UP TO THE DEALERSHIP TO DECIDE WHAT TO DO. IN OUR OPINION THEY SHOULD HAVE JUST DONE THE FRAME REPLACEMENT AT THE TIME OF THE FIRST VISIT! IF THE UNDERCOATING WAS TO TAKE CARE OF THE ISSUE WHY NOW ARE WE HAVING ISSUES!! WHAT IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE SAFETY OF A CUSTOMER AND THE PEOPLE SURROUNDING THEM WHEN THEY DRIVE!!! *JS
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A "VERY" STEEP GRADED AND WINDING GRAVEL ROAD THAT REQUIRED CONSISTENT BRAKING AND AS I WAS MAKING A TURN TO NEGOTIATE A RIGHT TURN ON A CURVE, MY STEERING ALL OF A SUDDEN FAILED TO EXIST. THE STEERING WHEEL SERIOUSLY RESISTED MY TURNING IT. I WAS FORCED TO APPLY THE BRAKES QUICKLY TO ATTEMPT GOING OVER THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND DOWN A DEEPLY SLOPED RAVINE OF ABOUT 20 FEET OR SO. THE TRUCK STOPPED WITH THE FRONT WHEELS "JUST OVER" THE EDGE BUT DID STOP BEFORE GOING "OVER". LUCKILY I HAD A "COME-ALONG" WITH ME AND WAS ABLE TO CRANK THE TRUCK BACKWARDS ENOUGH TO GET THE FRONT WHEELS BACK ON TO THE ROAD SURFACE. I HAVEN'T CARRIED THAT WITH ME IN YEARS ! I HAD TO BABY THE TRUCK ABOUT A MILE AT VERY LOW SPEED TO GET BACK IN TO TOWN. THE STEERING WHEEL WAS/IS VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN. I "COULD NOT" MAKE A TYPICAL TURN AT VERY SLOW SPEED AND NOT USE THE OPPOSING SIDE OF THE ROAD. I GOT THE TRUCK HOME AND SHUT IT DOWN. I SUSPECTED A POWER STEERING LEAK AND CHECKED TO FIND IT WAS OUT OF FLUID. I USED MY FRIENDS VEHICLE TO BUY POWER STEERING FLUID, FILLED IT, CHECKED AND FOUND FLUID SPRAYING OUT OF BOTH ENDS OF WHAT IS KNOWN AS THE "RACK" OR TUBE? IT TOOK LESS THAN A FEW "SECONDS" FOR IT TO DRAIN TOTALLY. I CHECKED THE INTERNET TO LEARN THIS IS NOT UNCOMMON. I DID A CLOSE PHYSICAL INSPECTION TO FIND MUCH CORROSION. THIS TRUCK WAS THE SUBJECT TO THE RECALL FOR AND RECEIVED A NEW CHASSIS AS A RESULT OF EXCESSIVE CORROSION. I CONSIDER MYSELF VERY LUCKY. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN MUCH WORSE ! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACTED STATED THAT THE FRONT AND REAR FRAME WAS DETERIORATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRAME FAILED INSPECTION AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN A MANUFACTURER'S SAFETY IMPROVEMENT CAMPAIGN HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER DENIED REPAIRING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKES, THE BRAKES EXHIBITED AN ABNORMAL INCREASE IN STOPPING TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THAT THE CABLE FOR THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS SEVERELY RUSTED, CAUSING THE REAR BRAKES TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 135,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. *TR
VEHICLE INSPECTED BY DEALER LEAK IN RACK AND PINION. VERY EARLY AT 72,500 MILES. LOOSE LOWER BALL JOINTS. LOWER BALL JOINTS REPLACED UNDER RECALL 10/11/2005 AT 28,000 MILES. IF THEY ARE GOING BAD AGAIN AT 72,500 MILES, THERE IS A MAJOR PROBLEM. *TR

UPON TAKING THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRAME HAD EXTENSIVE RUST, CORROSION, AND COULD FRACTURE. THE FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC RECOMMENDED THAT THE VEHICLE BE TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT A MANUFACTURER RECALL HAD BEEN COMPLETED IN 2012 FOR THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE, BUT THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO CONFIRM IF THE FRAME WAS REPLACED FROM THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO INDICATED THAT A RECALL REPAIR WAS PERFORMED IN 2012 AND PROVIDED NO SOLUTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I HAVE A 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA THAT I BOUGHT FROM DEL TOYOTA IN THORNDALE PA. I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK NEW FROM THIS DEALER. TOYOTA SENT ME A LETTER FOR THE RECALL OF THE FRAME. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO DEL TOYOTA TO HAVE THE FRAME LOOKED AT IN 2012 AND THEY SAID THE FRAME JUST NEEDED SPRAYED. I WAS FINE WITH THAT. THE PROBLEM IS NOW MY FRAME HAS 4 INCH HOLES IN IT UP BY THE ENGINE ON BOTH SIDES. THERE IS NOT WHEY MY FRAME WOULD HAVE RUSTED OUT THAT FAST SINCE THE DEALER LOOKED AT IT IN 2012. SO I TOOK MY TUNDRA BACK TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THEM INSPECT THE HOLES AND THEY TOLD ME THEY WOULD CALL TOYOTA TO GET A NEW FRAME ON IT BECAUSE I HAD THE TRUCK IN DURING THE RECALL PERIOD THE FIRST TIME. LITTLE DID I KNOW TOYOTA SAID THEY WILL NOT REPLACE MY FRAME BECAUSE THE RECALL PERIOD IS OVER. THEN DEL TOYOTA TOLD ME TO CALL TOYOTA CORP AND TALK TO A CASE MANAGER. SO I CALLED TOYOTA CORP AND TALKED TO [XXX] (THE CASE MANAGER) AND SHE TOLD ME TOYOTA WOULD NOT REPLACE THE FRAME BECAUSE THE RECALL PERIOD IS OVER. I TOLD HER MY TRUCK WAS IN FOR THE RECALL AND THEY SPRAYED IT WHEN THE FRAME SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED. SHE TOLD ME AGAIN TOYOTA WILL NOT REPLACE MY FRAME. SO NOW I AM STUCK WITH A UNSAFE VEHICLE THAT I FEEL UNSAFE DRIVING AND WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION ANYMORE. THE 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA HAS KNOWN ISSUES WITH THE FRONT ROTORS AND PADS AND SERVICE BULLETIN ABOUT THE PROBLEM FOR CORRECTIONS TO BE MADE. I COMPLAINED TO THE DEALER ABOUT THE PROBLEM IN 2003 WITH MAYBE 20,000 MILES IF THAT. THE PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED UNDER WARRANTY, THAT IS, THE ROTORS AND PADS WERE REPLACED, SO I WAS TOLD, BUT WITH THE SAME PROBLEMATIC PARTS THAT WERE ISSUED WITH THE TRUCK. THE CALIPERS, WHICH HAVE BEEN REPORTED AS UNDERSIZED FOR THE VEHICLE, WERE NOT TOUCHED. EVENTUALLY THE SHIMMY BECOMES BAD ENOUGH IT NEGATIVELY AFFECTS THE BRAKE SYSTEM. TOYOTA KNEW OF THE ISSUE BUT DID NOT FOLLOW THROUGH IN TRULY CORRECTING THE PROBLEM. *TR
I HAD RECALL FOR MY TUNDRA BED AND THERE WERE GOING TO RESOLVE THE RUST ISSUE AT NO CHARGE. I TOOK MY TRUCK TO BOBBY REHAL TOYOTA IN MECHANCISBURG PA. THEY BROKE A PART THAT WASN'T PART OF THE RECALL. THEY TOLD ME AND IF I WANTED MY TRUCK BACK I HAD TO PAY FOR IT. I TRIED TO RESOLVE WITH BOBBY REHAL AND TOYOTA MAIN OFFICE AND THEY TOLD ME TO PAY IF I WANTED MY TRUCK AND THE PART THEY BROKE WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. I EXPLAINED I DIDN'T NEED OR WANT THIS RECALL BUT WAS TOLD IT WAS A NO COST RECALL BY LETTER. I PAID IT BUT NOW I JUST RECEIVED ANOTHER RECALL FOR AIRBAG BUT HOW CAN I TAKE MY TRUCK TO TOYOTA NOT KNOWING THE OUTCOME OF THE RECALL SO I MAY CHOOSE TO DO NOTHING BECAUSE I CANNOT BE SURE THEY WON'T MAKE ME PAY AGAIN FOR SOMETHING I DIDN'T WANT/NEED IN THE FIRST PLACE. WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE I MADE A SUDDEN LANE CHANGE TO AVOID AN OFFICER I BELIEVE WAS RETURNING TO THE HIGHWAY AND A CAR SUDDENLY CAME TO A STOP IN FRONT OF ME. HAD FRAME REPLACED PER RECALL, 5/2012. HAD BEEN SMELLING GAS AFTER FILL UPS SO HAD AIRPORT TOYOTA, VANDALIA, OHIO - REPAIR WHILE THEY HAD TRUCK TORN APART- TOLD ME THE GAS TANK PORT WAS CORRODED SO THEY PUT NEW GASKET ON. FORTUNATELY I WAS OFF THE INTERSTATE WHEN MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN INTO A CONVENIENCE STORE...........THE STEERING SUDDENLY BECAME ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN, ACTUALLY CAUSING ME TO TURN INTO THE OUTGOING LANE AT THE STORE ENTRANCE. THERE WAS NO ADVANCED WARNING....JUST NO STEERING ON TURNS AND NO BRAKE FLUID IN THE RESEVOIR. THE TOYOTA DEAL SAYS THE STEERING RACK NEEDS REPLACEMENT.($1600)......AND COULD NOT EXPLAIN EXACTLY WHERE THE FLUID WENT. THIS WAS SUPPOSE TO BE A 300,000 MILE VEHICLE, NOW STANDS AT 116,457. HAD TO REPLACE A STABILIZER AS WELL DUE TO CORROSION. I JUST SOLD MY 1997 GRAND AM WITH 224,000. AND MY 1988 DODGE CARAVAN HAD 244,000 BEFORE THE TRANSMITION WENT. TOYOTA AND RELIABILITY???????? *JS
MY FIRST ISSUE WAS 3 YEARS AGO WHEN MY MUFFLER WAS SO RUSTED AWAY I FELT SOMETHING DRAGGING PULLED OVER AND SEEN MY MUFFLER HAD FALL ALMOST OFF HANGING THERE. I HAVE IT IN THE SHOP AND THEY ARE SAYING MY BRAKE LINES ARE COMPLETELY CORRODED AND FALLING APART.
I AM THE OWNER OF TWO TOYOTA VEHICLES. VEHICLE ONE IS A 1992 TOYOTA PICKUP EXTENDED CAB 4X4 3.0 V6 WITH 220,000 MILES ON IT I BOUGHT IT WITH 124,000 MILES ON IT. VEHICLE TWO IS A 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA SR5 4.7 V8 WITH 47,000 MILES I BOUGHT IT WITH 39,000 MILES ON IT WITH ONLY ONE PREVIOUS OWNER. THE NEW FRAME IS INSTALLED ON THE TRUCK BUT I HAVE NOTICED NOW THAT MY REAR AXLE HOUSING IS COMPLETELY ROTTED AND RUSTED OUT AND LEAKING ALL OVER THE PLACE. THE STRUCTURE OF THIS IS NOT SAFE AND I TRAVEL AN AVERAGE 6,000 MILES A MONTH FOR WORK. MY 1992 TOYOTA TRUCK WITH 219,000 MILES REAR AXLE IS IN BETTER SHAPE THAN THE 2002 TOYOTA. I HAVE SPOKE WITH TOYOTA DIRECTLY AND THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE SITUATION. THERE SHOULD BE A LAW SUIT AGAINST TOYOTA FOR NOT REPLACING THESE REAR AXLES BECAUSE THE SAME METAL WAS OBVIOUSLY USED ON THE FRAME THAT WAS REPLACED. IN APRIL OF 2012, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V444000 (STRUCTURE); HOWEVER, THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED.
