THE PLASTIC LINK MEMBER OF THE REAR SIDE WINDOW LATCHING PIVOT FAILED/BROKE/FRACTURED WHEN THE WINDOW WAS LATCHED CLOSED. THIS OCCURRED ON BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE WINDOWS WITHIN ABOUT 2 MONTHS OF EACH OTHER AT THE END OF 2005. IT IS APPARENT TO ME THAT THIS IS A DESIGN DEFECT AS IT OCCURRED IN BOTH LATCHES ON A VEHICLE THAT IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD. THE PIN PRESSED INTO THE MECHANISM, THROUGH THE HOLE IN THE PLASTIC LINK, IS A SPLIT SPRING PIN WITH A ZIG-ZAG 'TOOTH" PATTERN ALONG THE SLIT IN THE PIN. I BELIEVE THE "TEETH" IN THIS PIN CREATE A STRESS POINT ON THE INNER DIAMETER OF THE MOLDED HOLE THROUGH THE PLASTIC LINK CAUSING THE LINK TO FRACTURE WHEN THE LATCH IS CLOSED AS INTENDED. THE DEALER FROM WHOM THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED HAS REFUSED TO REPLACE THE FAILED PARTS. *JB
DT: CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING HIS VEHICLE THE FRONT LEFT BALL JOINT SPINDLE CAME UNDONE. THE FRONT LEFT TIRE DISLODGED AND THE VEHICLE DROPPED SPEED. HE HAD NO CONTROL. THIS, IN TURN, CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. THE TRUCK WENT OFF THE ROAD AND INTO A DITCH. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP. THERE WAS NHTSA RECALL 05V225000, BUT HE NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE. THE DEALERSHIP TOLD HIM THIS VEHICLE WA SNOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO VIN. *AK

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO EXPLAINED THAT A RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED FOR LOWER BALL JOINT FAILURES (05V225000). THE CONSUMER NEVER RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE. *NM

THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THE FAULTY COMPONENTS HAD BEEN RECALLED. THE CONSUMER NEVER RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE. *NM
OFFICE OF ATTORNEY GENERAL-TOYOTA RECALL ON BALL JOINTS. *TS THE BALL JOINT AND SPINDLE ON THE FRONT DRIER'S SIDE FAILED AND AS A RESULT THE DRIVER LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND ENDED UP IN A CULVERT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOYOTA SERVICE FACILITY WHO INFORMED THE CONSUMER THAT THE BALL JOINT HAD BEEN RECALLED. THE CONSUMER NEVER RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE FROM THE MANUFACTURER. *NM
ABOUT TWO MONTHS AFTER PURCHASE. THE VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER; A SERVICE TECHNICIAN SAID THE REAR DRUMS WERE PROBABLY OUT-OF-ROUND. DRUMS WERE RESURFACED AND BRAKES WERE GOOD - FOR ABOUT TWO MORE MONTHS. PROBLEM RECURRED - TAKEN BACK TO DEALER. SHOES REPLACED. BRAKES GOOD FOR 2 MORE MONTHS. PROBLEM RECURRED - DEALER WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING SINCE OUT OF WARRANTY. TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT SHOP WHERE DRUMS AND ROTORS WERE MACHINED. BRAKES WERE GOOD FOR ABOUT TWO MORE MONTHS. TRUCK AGAIN SHAKES WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED. THE PROBLEM IS ONGOING. *JB
I HAVE A 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA, ACCESS CAB. STARTING AT APPROX. 30,000 MILES, THE BRAKES BEGAN TO VIBRATE WHEN APPLIED. CONDITION HAS PROGRESSIVELY WORSENED, AND NOW THE TRUCK FRONT END SHIMMIES CONSIDERABLY WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES. THIS CREATES A DANGEROUS CONDITION, PARTICULARLY WHEN DRIVING DOWN HILL OR IN TRAFFIC. *NM

CONSUMER COMPLAINT REGARDING 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE VEHICLE MAKES NOISE WHEN TURNING LEFT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DETERMINED THAT FIVE OF THE LUG NUTS WERE LOOSE DUE TO STRESS. 5 OF THE LUGS WERE LEFT LOOSE. ONE STUD BROKE AND ONE LUG NUT WAS HOLDING THE WHEEL IN PLACE. *TS THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE TIRE WERE WORN AND ASKED THE SERVICE MANAGER TO HAVE THEM CHECKED. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THEY WERE INDEED WORM AND THE TIRES WERE REPLACED. AFTER THE TIRES WERE REPLACED THE CONSUMER NOTICE A PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT END THAT WAS NOT THERE PRIOR TO THE TIRE REPLACEMENT. THE DEALER REPLACED ALL 6 LUG NUTS, 1 STUD AND CAP WHICH WAS INSTALLED INCORRECTLY. THE BRAKES WERE REPLACED AT 20000 MILES AND 90000 MILES. ABOUT 6000 MILES AFTER THE LAST BRAKE SERVICE THE CONSUMER NOTICE A PULSATION WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY REPLACED THE ROTORS. *NM
FROM DAY ONE WHEN I PURCHASED MY TOYOTA TUNDRA ON 9/30/02 I HAVE HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK BACK 2 DAYS LATER TO TELL THE SALESMAN THAT I FELT THAT THE BRAKES "SHUTTERED" WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN IN CITY TRAFFIC CONDITIONS AND BRAKING DISTANCE WAS INCREASED THE MORE THAT I DROVE THE VEHICLE. THEY CHECKED THE TRUCK THAT DAY AND I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS FINE. NOW, ALMOST 3 YEARS LATER WITH ONLY 27,000 MILES THE BRAKES ARE WORN AND THE ROTORS HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER SAYS THAT THE BRAKES ARE NOT COVERED BUT THEY MIGHT REPLACE THE ROTORS. I SEE THAT THERE IS A HISTORY WITH THE ROTORS WARPING AND CAUSING THE PADS TO FAIL PREMATURELY. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW TOYOTA CAN SIT BACK WITH A BLIND EYE WHEN CLEARLY THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM. *NM
PURCHASED 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA NOV 2001. JAN 2004 VEHICLE WOULD SHAKE BADLY WHEN BRAKES APPLIED AT 40+ MPH. WAS TOLD NEEDED BRAKES REPLACED/ROTORS TURNED. NEEDED ROTORS TURNED AGAIN DEC 2004 AND AGAIN JUNE 2005. NOW AUG 2005 SAME PROBLEM. WITH FAST STOPS ON FREEWAY THIS SHAKING CAUSES CONTROL PROBLEMS WHICH IS A SAFETY ISSUE.*JB
DT: THE CONSUMER WAS MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN ABOUT 2 MPH WHEN THE TRUCK STARTED MAKING A STRANGE NOISE. THE CONSUMER GOT OUT OF THE TRUCK AND DISCOVERED THAT THE WHEEL WAS OFF THE TRUCK, AND THE REST OF THE TRUCK WAS SITTING ON WHERE THE WHEEL USED TO BE. THE WHEEL WAS FACE DOWN ON THE ROAD AND THE FENDER WAS ON TOP OF IT. ALSO, IT CAUSED BODY DAMAGE TO THE REST OF THE TRUCK ON THE RIGHT FENDER. THE LOCATION WAS THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL. THE CONSUMER THE DEALER HAS BEEN CONTACTED, AND THEY SAID THAT THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING UNTIL THEY HEAR FROM TOYOTA. THIS VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN IN ANY ACCIDENT THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THIS TO HAPPEN. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THEY HAD A RECALL ON THE BALL JOINTS, AND THEY WOULD TAKE CARE OF ALL EXPENSES AT THAT TIME. THEY HAVE NOT TAKEN CARE OF ANYTHING. *AK
BRAKES ON 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA DEFECTIVE. BRAKES VIBRATE EXCESSIVELY.
SEVERAL MONTHS AGO I FILED A REPORT REGARDING THE FAILURE OF BOTH LOWER BALL JOINTS ON MY 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA. SINCE THAT TIME YOU HAVE ENACTED A RECALL # 05V225000. I CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE TO INQUIRE ABOUT RECOUPING MY COSTS WHICH EXCEEDED A THOUSAND DOLLARS. TOYOTA INFORMED ME THAT MY VIN # DID NOT MATCH WITH VEHICLES BEING RECALLED SO THEY WOULD TAKE NO ACTION ON MY BEHALF. HOW IS IT POSSIBLE THAT I HAVE THE CORRECT YEAR AND MAKE OF VEHICLE AND EXPERIENCED THE SUBJECT PROBLEM, BUT THEY ARE NOT REQUIRED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM? *SC
2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA DEVELOPED PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES.*MR THE CONSUMER STATED SHE HAD THE TRUCK FIXED SEVERAL TIMES FOR VIBRATION, SPONGY BRAKES, EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE AND PULLING TO THE RIGHT. THE DEALER CONTINUED TO REPLACE THE DRUMS, RESURFACE THE ROTORS AND REPLACE THE PADS BUT THE PROBLEM CONTINUED. THE RIGHT REAR AXLE SEAL WAS LEAKING FOR THE SECOND TIME. *JB
I OWN A 2002 TOYATA TUNDRA. I, LIKE MANY, AS I AM NOW FINDING OUT, AM PLAGED BY THE SAME BRAKING PROBLEMS THAT SO MANY ARE EXPERIENCING. BEFORE THE 36,000 MI WARRANTY WENT OUT I TOOK THE RRUCK TO MY DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE BRAKES. THEY REPLACED ROTORS, AND CALIPERS. AFTER A WHILE THE SAME VIBRATING CAME BACK AGAIN. I TOOK IT BACK AGAIN AND THEY TURNED THE ROTORS AND SAID THAT FIXED THE PROBLEM. SINCE THE WARRANTY HAS RUN OUT , I HAVE REPLACED THE ROTORS TWICE AND NEW PADS EVERY TIME. I LOVE MY TRUCK BUT THERE IS NO DOBT THAT THEY HAVE A PROBLEM. I JUST NEED A SOLUTION, ALONG WITH SO MANY OTHER TUNDRA OWNERS!!
THIS COMPLIANT IS APPLICABLE TO TOYOTA TUNDRA TRUCKS ~2000 TO 2003 MODELS. A VERY STRONG BRAKE VIBRATION FELT THROUGH-OUT THE VEHICLE COMING DOWN MOUNTAIN PASSES (I LIVE IN COLORADO). EVEN WITH THE APPROPRIATE DOWN-SHIFTING THE BRAKE VIBRATION IS FRIGHTENING CAUSING THE DRIVER TO WONDER IF THE VEHICLE WILL BE ABLE TO BE SLOWED AFTER A WHILE. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECT TO TOYOTA MOTOR CORP AND IS ADDRESSED IN THE TOYOTA SERVICE BULLETIN BR004-02 AND IS ONLY ADDRESSED UPON COMPLAINT BY THE CUSTOMER AND THEN AGAIN ONLY AT NO CHARGE IF THE VEHICLE IS WITHIN THE WARRANTY LIMITATIONS. THE FIX IS A DESIGN CHANGE IN THE FORM OF REPALCEMENT OF THE FRONT CALIPER ASSEMBLY AND THE FRONT ROTORS. THE REAR DRUMS MIGHT ALSO HAVE TO BE REPLACED WITH DRUMS OF GREATER MASS AND RIGIDITY, ACCORDING TO THE TSB BR004-02
DT: THE LOWER BALL JOINTS HAVE FAILED CAUSING THE WHEEL TO FALL OFF SEVERING THE UPPER BALL JOINTS. THIS ALSO DAMAGED THE BRAKE LINES AND THE ABS SENSORS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THE CONSUMER CONTACTED TOYOTA WHO REFERRED HER TO THE NHTSA WEBSITE. TOYOTA DENIED THERE WAS A RECALL. NO REPAIRS AS OF YET. *JB
DT:CONTACT COMPLAINED ABOUT BRAKE PROBLEMS. WHEN THE BRAKE WERE APPLIED THEY WERE SPONGY AND IT REQUIRED EXTENDED TIME/DISTANCE FOR THE CAR TO STOP. THE BRAKES HAVE BEEN REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES EVERY 3-4,000 MILES. THE FRONT AND REAR BRAKES WERE CHANGED IN 3/2005. *AK *NM
WE BOUGHT A USED 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA ON 6-16-2005 THAT HAD 45,134 MILES ON IT. IT NOW HAS 109,000 MILES ON IT . WHEN WE FIRST BOUGHT THE TRUCK FROM THE DEALERSHIP, THE BRAKES WERE REPLACED BEFORE WE TOOK IT HOME BECAUSE WE NOTICED A VIBRATION. SINCE THEN, WE HAVE REPLACED THE BRAKES, PADS, ETC. TWICE. WE NOW HAVE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE SERVICE AGAIN BECAUSE WHILE DRIVING THE TRUCK SHAKES VIOLENTLY AT AROUND 40 MPH AND BRAKING LITERALLY SHAKES THE ENTIRE TRUCK. IT SEEMS HIGHLY UNREASONABLE TO HAVE TO REPLACE THE BRAKING SYSTEM 4 TIMES IN THREE YEARS OF OWNERSHIP. I BELIEVE THAT THERE IS A SERIOUS DEFECT IN THE BRAKING SYSTEM IN THE 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA THAT COULD LEAD TO ACCIDENTS CAUSING INJURY OR DEATH. WHEN WILL TOYOTA RECALL THESE VEHICLES DUE TO MANUFACTURING DEFECTS IN THEIR BRAKING SYSTEM? I AM STARTING THE INCIDENT DATE AS OF THE DATE OF PURCHASE SINCE THAT IS WHEN WE FIRST HAD THE BRAKES REPLACED. I NOW HAVE TO PAY MORE MONEY TO HAVE THE ENTIRE TRUCK BRAKING SYSTEM CORRECTED AGAIN SO THAT WE DO NOT END UP IN HARMS WAY. STOP LAMP SOCKET FAILURE. AT 1ST THE BULB WOULD STAY IN THE SOCKET AND WOULD ONLY FALL OUT EVERY SIX MONTHS OR SO. IN THE LAST 1/2 YEAR THE BULB WOULD FALL OUT AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH. MOST OF THE TIME THE BULB WOULD FALL OUT AND END UP LAYING IN THE LENSE CASING AND COULD BE PLUGGED BACK IN AND STILL WORK. THIS IS A REOCCURING PROBLEM IN THE TOYOTA TUNDRA. THEY HAD A RECALL FOR THE 2002 MODEL TUNDRA FOR THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. THAT RECALL # WAS SSC-Y01. I WENT TO THE DEALER AND THE PLUG WAS TOTALLY CUT OFF AND REPLACED. THE REPAIR WAS COVERED UNDER EXTENDED WARRENTY BUT WITH A $50 DEDUCTABLE THAT I HAD TO PAY. MY SERVICE MAN DID NOT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THE 2000 RECALL, BUT ANOTHER SERVICE MAN INDICATED TO ME THAT IS WAS A PROBLEM IN PREVIOUS YEARS AND GAVE THE 2000 RECALL INFORMATION ABOVE. I CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY WOULD NOT DO ANYTHING. THE EXACT WORDING FOR 2000 SSC-Y01 TUNDRA STOP LAMP RECALL SAID THE FOLLOWING " THE PLASTIC BULB SOCKET IN CERTAIN REAR COMBINATION LAMP (INCLUDES STOP LAMP) MAY NOT HAVE BEEN MOLDED PROPERLY IN CERTAIN 2000 MODEL YEAR TUNDR'S. THIS COULD CAUSE A REDUCTION OF BULB RETENSION FORCE IN USE. IN THE WORST CASE, THE BULB COULD FALL OUT OF THE SOCKET RESULTING IN AN INOPERATIVE STOP LAMP." THIS IS EXACTULLY WHAT OCCURRED WITH MY STOP LIGHT BULB. WHAT THEY DO NOT INDICATE IS THE WOREST THING COULD HAPPEN WOULD SOMEONE COULD REAR END YOU SINCE THE LIGHTS ARE NOT WORKING WHICH COULD BE FATAL. YOU MAKE THE CALL.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL TO INDICATED WHAT GEAR THE VEHICLE IS IN SUDDENLY SHUT OFF AND HAVE NOT ILLUMINATED SINCE. HE ALSO NOTICED THAT WHEN THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT IS FASTENED THE WARNING LIGHT ON THE PANEL ILLUMINATES REGARDLESS. THERE IS ALSO A RUST ISSUE ON THE ON THE REAR DOORS CAUSING A STRUCTURE DAMAGE. WHEN HE TOOK THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIPS THEY INFORMED HIM THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE ASSISTANCE DESPITE THE FACT THAT HE HAS WARRANTY ON HIS VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AS OF CURRENT DATE.
WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES THE VEHICLE WILL HAVE A HEAVY VIBRATION AND EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE.
MY 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA HAS VIBRATION IN THE BRAKE SYSTEM. TOYOTA TRIED TO SAY IT WAS NORMAL WEAR AFTER 50K MILES TO HAVE WARPED ROTORS. NEVER HAPPEN ON ANY OTHER VEHICLE I HAD. I SPENT $400 ON THERE 60K MILE INSPECTION (WHEN TRUCK HAD ONLY 52K MILES AND THEY CHECKED BRAKES OK. THEN I DROVE OFF AND BOOM VIBRATION IN FRONT BRAKES. NOW THEY CLAIM IT IS THE ROTORS AND
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HIS VIN WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 05V225000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER BALL JOINT) THAT WAS ISSUED IN 2005. SINCE THAT TIME, THE LOCAL DEALER HAS BEEN UNABLE TO RETRIEVE THE NECESSARY PARTS FOR THE REPAIR. THE TOYOTA MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WERE HAVING DIFFICULTY OBTAINING THE PARTS, BUT THE PARTS SHOULD BE AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT ALSO HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE AND WAS UNSURE IF IT WAS RELATED TO THE RECALL. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.

THOUGHT TO AT FIRST RELATED TO TIRE BALANCE. 2.FRONT BRAKE ROTORS WARPED FROM HEAT BUILDUP AND IMPROPER VENTILATION. 3.CONTACTED LOCAL TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT. ADVISED OF (TOYOTA TSB #BR004-02 BRAKE UPGRADE) AUTHORIZING REPLACEMENT OF: DUST SHIELDS, FRONT ROTORS, CALIPERS,PADS,REAR DRUMS,AND PADS. TOYOTA REFUSES TO REPAIR WITH MILEAGE BEING 41,000 AS TRUCK IS NOT IN WARRENTY. TOYOTA WOULD LIKE TO REPAIR FOR $1803.25. TOYOTA WOULD NOT COMMENT ON WHY I WAS NOT ADVISED OF THIS PROBLEM BEFORE WARRENTY EXPIRED. AS OF NOW, HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA SOUTHEAST AND ISSUE NOT RESOLVED. TUNDRA WILL NOW HAVE TO BE REPAIRED OUT- O-F POCKET, AS BREAK FAILURE IS IMMINENT, AND SAFETY IS COMPROMISED. INDEPENDENT MECHANIC SUGGEST REPLACING ROTORS WITH PERFORMACE COOLING DISC AND CERAMIC PADS TO MINIMIZE WARPING.
THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT SUSPENSION BALL JOINTS GAVE WAY AS I WAS DRIVING AT 75MPH ON INTERSTATE 40 WEST IN TEXAS AT MILE MARKER 14. THE ENTIRE WHEEL, BREAK, AND AXLE ASSEMBLY DETATCHED AT HI SPEED. THE BREAK LINE WAS SEVERED. THE ASSEMBLY FOLDED UNDER THE TRUCK AND I SKIDDED ON THE WHEEL WITH LITTLE CONTROL UNTIL I COULD MANEUVER OFF OF THE INTERSTATE AND MAINTAIN AN UPRIGHT POSITION WITH THE VEHICLE. THE TWISTED TIE ROD KEPT THE TIRE AND WHEEL ASSEMBLY FROM COMPLETELY SEPARATING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE WEATHER WAS LIGHT SNOW WITH A TEMPERATURE OF ABOUT 34 DEGREES. TIME WAS APPX 9.50 AM. THE TRUCK WAS REPAIRED WITHOUT COMMENT BY STREET TOYOTA OF AMARILLO, TEXAS AT A COST OF APPX. $ 2,200. THE DEALER SAID THERE WAS AN INORDINATE AMOUNT OF WEAR ON THE FRONT END STEERING COMPONENTS. THE TRUCK IS IN GOOD CONDITION WITH A GOOD DOCUMENTED SERVICE RECORD. THE TRUCK HAD BEEN STEERING "LOOSELY" AND I HAD A MECHANIC EXAMINE THE STEERING THE PREVIOUS WEEK. HE SAID IT LOOKED AND DROVE OK, BUT HE COULDN'T REALLY TELL. THE TRUCK HAS NEVER BEEN INVOLOVED IN AN ACCIDENT OR INSURANCE CLAIM.
I OWN A 2002 TUNDRA THAT HAS THE BRAKE VIBRATION (WARPED ROTORS) PROBLEM NOW AT 50,000 MILES. THE TRUCK HAD 20,000 MILES WHEN THE PROBLEM FIRST SURFACED AND THEN TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND GOT FIXED, BUT THE PROBLEM OFF COURSE STARTED AGAIN AROUND 40,000 MILES AND WHEN I CONTACTED THE DEALER THEY TOLD ME THAT TOYOTA WILL ONLY COVER THE PROBLEM TILL 36,000 MILES. THIS IS A UNIVERSAL PROBLEM FOR THIS MODEL. *JB
REGARDING 2002 SEQOUIA. SINCE SEQOUIA NOT AN OPTION, CHOSE TUNDRA AS IT WAS CLOSEST TO VEHICLE TYPE. DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT SPEED LIMIT, THEN CAR FELT AS IF VEERING OFF TO THE LEFT, IT WAS HARD KEEPING STEERING WHEEL STRAIGHT AND THEN I NOTICED THAT THE TRAC OFF AND VSC LIGHTS WENT ON. IT WAS A CLEAR DAY, FAIRLY SMOOTH SURFACE IN THE CENTER LANE, WHEN THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED. HAD TO PULL OF FREEWAY AND TURN OFF VEHICLE AND THEN RESTART TO RESET THE CAR. THIS IS THE ONLY WAY THE LIGHTS WILL TURN OFF AND THE CAR WILL STEER NORMALLY. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME IT HAS HAPPENED, THIS HAS HAPPENED A SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS.*AK

THE VSC TRAC-OFF SYSTEM TURNS ON WHEN DRIVING ON STRAIGHT, DRY FREEWAY. THE TRUCK LOST SPEED AND IT STARTED MOVING TO NEXT LANE. I LOST CONTROL OF THE STEERING. I THOUGHT THAT I WAS GOING TO CRASH. I TOOK IT IN AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE COMPUTER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE MY TRUCK AGAIN. I AM AFRAID THAT NEXT TIME THAT HAPPENS ON THE BUSY LOS ANGELES FREEWAY, I COULD BE THE VICTIM OF A TERRIBLE TRAGEDY CAUSED BY THE VSC MALFUNCTION.*AK
THE FRONT END STEERING RACK LET GO, THEN THE BALL JOINTS LET GO AND THE WHOLE FRONT END FELL OUT CAUSING 4,500.00 IN DAMAGE AS WELL AS INJURY TO MY BACK. *JB
DURING A ROUTINE SERVICE THE FRONT ROTORS WERE FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE, AS WELL AS THE REAR DRUMS. *NM
AFTER THE FAILURE OF THE RIGHT FRONT SUSPENSION 1 YEAR EARLIER (SEE ODI#10121403) THE LEFT FRONT SUSPENSION COLLAPSED AS I WAS PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY. RESULTS WERE THE SAME AS THE PRIOR FAILURE WITH THE WHEEL ASSEMBLY COMING OFF AND THIS TIME JAMMING UP INTO THE WHEEL WELL. ENTIRE LEFT FRONT SUSPENSION COMPONENTS WERE REPLACED BY SAME SERVICE DEALER. AS WITH PRIOR RIGHT FRONT FAILURE THERE WAS NO WARNING OF IMPENDING FAILURE.
DT: THE OWNER WAS DRIVING AT 50 MPH WHILE TOWING, AND COULD NOT CONTROL THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED. THE VEHICLE WAS BOUNCING FROM GUARD RAIL TO GUARD RAIL. WHEN THE OWNERS CAME TO A STOP THE VEHICLE WAS STILL RIGHT SIDE UP. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. BOTH OCCUPANTS SUSTAINED INJURIES. THE PASSENGER WAS HOSPITALIZED FOR A WEEK WITH BROKEN RIBS AND OTHER INTERNAL INJURIES WHILE THE DRIVER SUFFERED FROM SHOCK AND A CONCUSSION. HOWEVER, THE DRIVER SUSTAINED SOME INJURIES FROM THE AIRBAG. BOTH ARE IN PHYSICAL THERAPY AND THE OTHER THERAPY TREATMENTS. THE DRIVER IS STILL SUFFERING FROM HEADACHES. THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS BEFORE THE WRECK. NO NOTICEABLE PROBLEMS TO THE VEHICLE WITH HANDLING. THERE WAS NO WOBBLING OR ANY INDICATION THAT THIS WAS GOING TO HAPPEN. *AK *SC
AT 25000 MILES THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON IN MY 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE, WAS ADVISED THAT THE REPAIR WOULD COST $300 TO FIX. THE PROBLEM IS EMISSIONS RELATED AND ATTRIBUTED TO A DEFECTIVE PART ( FUEL FILLER NECK ). THERE IS A TOYOTA TSB OUT DESCRIBING THIS PROBLEM. *AK
THE INTERIOR DRIVERS AND PASSENGER DOOR HANDLES HAVE CRACKED AND BROKEN. *NM
I WAS DRIVING MY 2002 EXTENDED CAB 4X4 TUNDRA 1 OR 2 MPH ON AN UNPAVED BUT GRADED ROAD VIEWING REAL ESTATE WHEN THE ENTIRE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE COLLAPSED JARRING THE TRUCK TO A STOP. I THOUGHT THE ROAD HAD COLLAPSED. IT APPEARS AS IF THE FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT FAILED. I WAS ONLY 7 MILES OFF INTERSTATE I-95, I SHUDDER TO THINK OF THE CONSEQUENCES OF A FAILURE LIKE THIS GOING 70 MPH WITH TRAFFIC. *JB
WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED. DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THE PROBLEM. *AK THE DRIVER HEARD AND FELT A LOUD BUMP IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RUN BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE GAS PEDAL. THERE WAS REAR END GREASE LEAKING FROM THE RIGHT SIDE REAR SHOWING ON THE WHEEL AND TIRE. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THERE WAS NO CONNECTION BETWEEN THE REAR BRAKE, REAR END LEAKING GREASE, THE DRIVE SHAFT AND THE FAILURE OF THE TRANSMISSION. THE BRAKES WERE A MAJOR PROBLEM, THE CRUISE CONTROL NEVER KEPT SPEED OR SMOOTH, THE LEFT LOWER FRONT BALL JOINT HAD A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE THAT CAUSED THE ENTIRE WHEEL, BRAKE LINE AND ALL ESSENTIAL COMPONENTS ON THE LEFT SIDE OF THE VEHICLE TO COME LOOSE. THE CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT. *SC THE BRAKES WERE A PROBLEM ON THE VEHICLE, AND THE DRUMS WERE REPLACED. *JB
WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH THE BALL JOINTS FAILED. IT CAME COMPLETELY FROM UNDER THE TRUCK. THERE WAS NO WARNING. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENTS. CONSUMER CONTACTED THE DEALER. THERE WERE NO RECALLS. *AK
DT: CONTACT STATES WATER ENTERS THE WATER TIGHT JOINTS IN THE WIRING HARNESS. THIS CAUSES THE PINS TO CORRODE AND SHORTS OUT THE REAR TAIL LIGHT. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO DEALERSHIP, BUT THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND THERE HAVE BEEN NO REPAIRS MADE. *AK UPDATED 1/11/2006. *NM

ICY ROAD CONDITIONS CAUSED A DIRECT COLLISION OF MY 2002 TUNDRA WITH A TREE AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH. THE FRONT BUMPER RADIATOR AND ALL PARTS IN BETWEEN WERE PUSHED BACK INTO THE ENGINE FROM THIS IMPACT; HOWEVER, THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY RESULTING IN DRIVER INJURIES.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY JERKED. THE CONSUMER COULD NOT CONTROL THE VEHICLE WHILE CROSSING INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC LANES AND COMING TO A STOP ON THE SHOULDER. THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE LOWER BALL JOINT HAD SEPARATED AND THE TIRE (WHEEL ASSEMBLY) HAD FOLDED UNDER THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. *JB *SC
BRAKES ARE DEFECTIVE, THE PULSATION OF THE BRAKES IS CRITICAL AND DANGEROUS. *BF THE CONSUMER STATED THAT APPARENTLY THERE WAS A SERVICE ALERT CONCERNING THE PULSATING BRAKES OF THIS VEHICLE GOOD UP TO 36000 MILES. THE CONSUMER HAD THE BRAKES REDONE AT 59000 MILES BEFORE HE RECEIVED THE ALERT. AT 83000 MILES THE PULSATION OF THE BRAKES BECAME DANGEROUS AGAIN. THE CONSUMER WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHAT RECOURSE TO TAKE IN REFERENCE TO THE DEFECTIVE BRAKES. *TC
I HAVE A 2002 TOYOTA TUNDRA WITH 39,000 MILES ON IT. I WAS GOING 15-20 MPH AND APROACHING A ON RAMP TO THE HIGHWAY WHEN MY FRONT DRIVERS SIDE BALL JOINT SNAPPED. I HAD MY 4 MONTH OLD SON IN THE CAR WITH ME. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO STOP WITHOUT GETTING INTO A ACCIDENT BUT WONDER WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IF WE WERE ON THE HIGHWAY. VEHICLE HAS EXCESSIVE VIBRATION/SHAKING WHEN BRAKING, ESPECIALLY DOWNHILL, AND MOST NOTABLY AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 40-50 MPH. REPAIR ATTEMPTS HAVE BEEN MADE AT 20,341 MILES AND 24,312 MILES REPLACING CALIPERS, ROTORS AND DRUMS, AS WELL AS ATTEMPTS AT RESURFACING BADLY WARPED ROTORS/DRUMS. CONDITION STILL EXISTS AT CURRENT MILEAGE OF 28,128 MILES. FEAR THAT THIS IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION THAT WILL RESULT IN LOSS OF HANDLING, CONTROL, TRACTION OR MAY LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT IF BRAKES FAIL TO STOP THE VEHICLE. AS THIS ALSO DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE AN ISOLATED CASE, THIS CONDITION IS LIKELY TO AFFECT VEHICLE REPUTATION AND (RE-SALE) VALUE AS WELL.

IN NOVEMBER OF 2003 I WAS MAKING A RIGHT HAND TURN WHEN THE BALL JOINT ON THE DRIVER SIDE GAVE WAY CAUSING THE WHEEL TO FOLD UNDER THE TRUCK. IN SEPTEMBER OF 2004 A SIMILAR INCIDENT OCCURRED WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE. THIS TRUCK IS WELL CARED FOR AND THERE WERE NO OBVIOUS SIGNS OF A PROBLEM PRIOR TO FAILURE. BOTH SIDES HAVE BEEN REPAIRED AT MY EXPENSE BECAUSE THE TRUCK WAS PAST WARRANTY. TOTAL DAMAGE WAS ABOUT $3,000.00 EA04024_CAT. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED THE MANUFACTURER HAD SINCE ISSUED A RECALL, HOWEVER THE CONSUMERS VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED. *JB *SC
