TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH THE ABS LIGHT WOULD FLASH ON THE DASH BOARD INDICATING THAT THE BRAKES NEED TO BE SERVICED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC TO HAVE THE BRAKES SERVICED AND THE LOCAL MECHANIC COULD NOT FIND A ISSUE WITH THE BRAKES. ALSO THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR FLOW BUTTON THAT CONTROLS THE AIR INSIDE THE VEHICLE IS MALFUNCTIONING. THE CONTACT FEELS THIS VEHICLE HAS A SERIOUS ELECTRICAL ISSUE AND NEEDS TO LOOKED AT BY THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE 6,000.
I WAS DRIVING FROM NEW JERSEY TO MY HOME IN MASSACHUSETTS. THE TRIP IS ABOUT 250 MILES. ABOUT 18 MILES FROM MY HOME THE SIDEWALL BLEW OUT OF THE REAR TIRE. ROAD CONDITIONS WERE WET AND SNOWY THE WHOLE TRIP. I DON'T THINK I EVER EXCEED 60 MPH. I CHECKED ALL TIRES FOR PROPER INFLATION BEFORE LEAVING MY HOME FOR NEW JERSEY. THE TIRES ARE 60,000 MILE TIRES AND HAD ABOUT 43000 AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. THE TIRE IS A BRIDGESTONE DUELER H/T 689 - THIS IS NOT SHOWN IN YOUR SELECTION LIST. I HAD TO SELECT THE CLOSEST NAME BUT THE REAL NAME IS THE ONE WRITTEN HERE. *TR
I STARTED THE VEHICLE, PROCEEDED FORWARD IN A STRAIT LINE, REACHED +/- 15 MPH AND THE SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. I DID NOT HIT ANYTHING, WAS NOT HIT AND DID NOT ROLL THE VEHICLE. THE GROUND WAS VERY SMOOTH/FLAT. I RECEIVED NECK INJURIES AND HAVE HAD HEADACHES EVER SINCE. MY PASSENGER RECEIVED WHIP LASH AND HAS LOST MOST OF HIS HEARING IN HIS RIGHT EAR PERMANENTLY. IT TOOK 43 DAYS FOR A RESPONSE FROM TOYOTA (CORPORATE). THERE POSITION IS THAT THERE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT SYSTEM CAN NOT FAIL. THERE ARE 2 ADDITIONAL WITNESSES BESIDE THE DRIVER/PASSENGER WHO WERE STANDING JUST OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE WHEN IT HAPPENED. TOYOTA HAS NOT TALKED TO ANY WITNESSES NOR ASKED ANY QUESTIONS. THEY HAVE SIMPLY MAINTAINED THAT THEIR SYSTEM CAN'T FAIL AND ARE REFUSING TO FIX THE VEHICLE. I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE SEATBELTS TO BE REPLACED OUT OF MY POCKET BUT CAN'T AFFORD TO REPLACE THE AIRBAGS OR HEADLINER (APPROXIMATELY AN ADDITIONAL $6,000). *TR
THE DRIVER DOOR LATCH NOT ENGAGING, DOOR WOULD NOT STAY CLOSED. TOOK TO DEALER SHIP AND THE ENTIRE MODULE HAD TO BE REPLACED. *TR
I HAVE BEEN HEARING SOME CLICKING NOISE WHEN MY CAR IS MOVING AND IT SOUNDED LIKE METAL RUBBING. I TOOK IT TO TOYOTA AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. SO WHEN I WENT TO GET MY EMISSIONS TEST DONE, THE MECHANIC AT THE AUTO SHOP SAID THAT HE HEARD THE NOISE TOO AND IT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE CAR IN THE MIDDLE. SO THEY LIFTED THE CAR AND SAW WHERE THE UNIVERSAL JOINT IS WORN OUT AND THE MANUFACTURER SEAL IS DETERIORATING CAUSING THE JOINTS TO RUB TOGETHER. THERE ARE NO GREASE FITTINGS ON THIS SO I AM HAVING TO REPLACE THE UNIVERSAL JOINTS AS THE PROBLEM IS GETTING LOUDER AND THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THEY NEEDED TO BE FIXED SO THAT IT DOES NOT BREAK WHILE I AM GOING DOWN THE ROAD WHICH COULD CAUSE PROBLEMS UNDERNEATH THE CAR. I CALLED TOYOTA ABOUT THIS TODAY AND THEY SAID THAT WOULD ONLY BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND THAT IS 60,000 MILES OR 5 YEARS. I HAVE 70,000 MILES ON THE CAR. TOYOTA FAILED TO CHECK ALL OF THESE ITEMS AND CATCH THEM WHEN I DID MY YEARLY SERVICE AND MILEAGE APPOINTMENTS WITH THEM AND NOW THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION IF IT FAILED WHILE I WAS ON THE ROAD. *TR
EVERYTIME I CAME TO A STOP LIGHT OR SIGN, THE BRAKES WOULD LOSE PRESSURE AND THEN THE CAR STARTS GOING THROUGH THE LIGHT, WHILE I AM STILL HOLDING THE BRAKES. THE WOULD ALSO LOSE PRESSURE TO WHERE I COULD NOT STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF A HOT DAY. PROBLEM WAS CONSISTENT FIRST THING IN THE MORNING ON THE WAY TO WORK. TOOK IT TO TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY COULD NOT FIGURE IT OUT AT FIRST. THEY HAD ME REPLACE THE BRAKE PADS, AND ROTORS AND BLEED THE LINES NUMEROUS TIMES. THIS STILL DID NOT WORK AND THEY SAID I NEEDED A NEW MASTER CYLINDER/BRAKE BOOSTER. THIS ASSEMBLY IS ALL IN ONE SO THE WHOLE UNIT HAD TO BE REPLACED COSTING OVER $2,000 FOR THE PARTS NOT INCLUDING LABOR. THE TRUCK IS A 2005 TOYOTA TUNDRA WITH ONLY 60,500. THEY TOLD ME I WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND HAD TO PAY THE COST BECAUSE THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THIS FAILURE BEFORE. *TR
I HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA TUNDRA. I WAS CARRYING A LOAD TO THE JUNK YARD AND AFTER A FEW STOPS MY BRAKES STARTING PULSING AND STOPPING CORRECTLY BECAME DANGEROUS. I SUSPECT THE ROTORS GOT TOO HOT FROM THE LOAD. THIS IS A FULL SIZE TRUCK AND THE BRAKES APPEAR TO BE TOO SMALL TO HANDLE THE BRAKING REQUIRED. THE BRAKES AND ROTORS WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A POOR DESIGN AND A SAFETY PROBLEM. FORTUNATELY NO ONE HAS BEEN INJURED YET.
WHEN YOU COME TO A STOP, THE REAR AXEL FEELS LIKE A LOT OF TORQUE IS RELEASED FROM THE REAR END, LIKE SOMEONE HITS YOU FROM BEHIND. IT WILL MAKE THE TRUCK MOVE FORWARD A FOOT OR TWO EACH TIME. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES, I WAS TOLD IT WAS BECAUSE THE REAR AXLES ARE DESIGNED WITH SUCH TIGHT CLEARANCE, THAT THE SLIP YOKE NEEDS TO BE GREASED EVERY SO OFTEN TO KEEP THE TORQUE FROM BUILDING UP, BUT NO FIX HAD BEEN DESIGNED FROM TOYOTA. IT IS VERY SCARY WHEN IT HAPPENS. I WAS ALSO TOLD IT ONLY HAPPENS WITH 4 WHEEL DRIVE TUNDRA MODELS. MINE IS A 2005 4 DOOR, 4 WHEEL DRIVE MODEL. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE BALL JOINTS WERE REPLACED. SHORTLY AFTER THE REPAIR, WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 5 TO 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN PULLING TO THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR AN ALIGNMENT, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 46,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000.
TRANSIT BUS MADE RT TURN FROM LT LANE INVFRONT OF MY 2005 TOYOTA TUNDRA. MY VEHICLE SKIDDED AND COLLIDED WITH THE REAR OF BUS, CAUSING TOTAL LOSS OF VEHICLE. NO AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. ACCIDENT INVESTIGATOR WITH BALTIMORE PD REFERRED ME TO NHTSA. *TR

RECEIVED RECALL SSC 70B-FRONT SUSPENSION LOWER BALL JOINT SAFETY RECALL NOTICERE ON OR AROUND 6/07/07. CALLED DEALERSHIP FOR APPOINTMENT TO REPLACE, HEATHER IN SERVICE SAID THEY WOULD HAVE TO ORDER THE PART AND IT WOULD TAKE 3 TO 6 WEEKS FOR THEM TO RECEIVE, AT THAT TIME THEY WOULD CALL ME FOR AN APPOINTMENT. I SAID THAT WAS A LONG TIME TO WAIT AND SHE SAID THEY ONLY GET 5 AT A TIME ONCE A WEEK OR EVERY OTHER WEEK, THAT IT WAS A NATIONAL RECALL. MY POINT WAS THEN SHOULDN'T THERE BE MORE OF THESE PARTS AVAILABLE WITH A SHORTER WAIT TIME. VERY UPSETTING ABOUT THE DELAY IN GETTING THE PART REPLACED, AS IT SEEMS ACCORDING TO THE RECALL NOTICE A POSSIBLITY OF A CRASH MAY OCCUR DO TO THE DEFECTIVE PART. *AK
2005 TOYOTA TUNDRA -- 3 TIMES IT SPED UP ON ITS OWN. EITHER FLOORMAT AND/OR ACCELERATOR. THIRD TIME THERE WAS A CRASH, INTO OUR RETAINING WALL IN OUR DRIVEWAY. I TRIED TO GET PEOPLE TO PAY ATTENTION, CONTACTED CUSTOMER SERVICE, ETC., AT TOYOTA, NO ONE BELIEVED IT. ALSO INSURANCE COMPANY SAID IT WAS DRIVER'S FAULT. *TR
I HAVE A SAFETY RECALL ON THE 2005 TOYOTA TUNDRA FOR THE LOWER BALL JOINTS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WERE I PURCHASED THE TRUCK AND THEY TOLD ME 6 TO 8 WEEKS FOR JUST THE PARTS TO COME IN. I DRIVE ON THE INTERSTATE A LOT, AND THERE WAS SHIMMYING IN THE FRONT END. I TOLD THE DEALER THAT, AND THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN TOLD ME IF THEY BREAK THEY WILL PUT ME IN A RENTAL. WHAT IF THEY BREAK AND I AM KILLED OR SOMEBODY ELSE DIES. I THINK THIS IS A BIG PROBLEM. *AK

NO FAILURES HAVE OCCURRED, BUT SHE IS FEARFUL OF DRIVING. THE ENGINE SIZE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 20,000.

THE DEALER TEST DROVE THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT EVERYTHING WAS NORMAL. ON MAY 13, 2007, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP AT 2 MPH. THE LEFT FRONT TIRE DETACHED AND THE BALL JOINT SPLIT IN HALF. THE VEHICLE HAS SINCE BEEN REPAIRED. THE ENGINE SIZE, # OF CYLINDERS, AND CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE UNKNOWN. THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALERSHIP IS AT FAULT. THE CONSUMER PROVIDED A REPAIR INVOICE FOR VEHICLE. UPDATED 08/07/07 *TR

HE STATES THAT HE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE A FEW WEEKS AGO AND HE HAS CALLED VARIOUS TOYOTA DEALERS IN THE AREA TO HAVE HIS RECALL SERVICED FOR THE LOWER BALL JOINTS. HE STATES THAT ALL OF THE DEALERS HAVE TOLD HIM THAT THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE. THEY TOLD HIM TO KEEP CHECKING BACK ONCE A WEEK BECAUSE THEY HAVE NOT BEEN AVAILABLE FOR TWO MONTHS. RECALL NUMBER:07V013000:SUSPENSION: LOWER BALL JOINTS. FAILURE MILEAGE: 70K. --DS
2005 TUNDRA WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION HAS ISSUE WITH 3RD GEAR GRINDING AND POPPING OUT OF GEAR WHEN DRIVING CAN SEE MANY COMPLAINTS ONLINE WITH TUNDRA AND TACOMA WITH 6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSIONS AND SOME INDICATIONS TOYOTA NEW THE ISSUE WAS BAD SYNCHROS IN TRANSMISSION AND CHANGED TRANSMISSIONS OUT WITH ONES CONTAINING HEAVY-DUTY SYNCHROS WHEN THEY WERE FAILING WITH 18000 MILES, OTHERWISE ONCE OUT OF WARRANTY YOUR PROBLEM. SOME PEPOLE STATED REPLACEMENT DONE MORE THAN ONCE. POPS OUT OF GEAR WHILE DRIVING ON STREET
PARKING BRAKE ENGAGED PARTIALLY. ALSO THE ENGINE IDLED TOO FAST. THIS COMBINATION LEAD TO THE VEHICLE TO START MOVING UNEXPECTEDLY. AS A RESULT MY WIFE INJURERED HER FOOT AND DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE WAS SUSTAINED. THIS COULD HAVE EASILY RESULTED IN A FATALITY.*AK
WHILE TRYING TO STOP FROM 45 MPH, THE ABS SYSTEM ACTIVATED ON A CLEAN DRY ROAD AND THE BRAKES FAILED TO ACTIVATE AT ALL. THE PEDAL DID NOT GO TO THE FLOOR AND THE TRUCK WOULD NOT STOP. AFTER COASTING TO A STOP, THE BRAKES STARTED WORKING NORMALLY. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALER, THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG AND THE ABS SYSTEM DID NOT REPORT AN ERROR. *JB

THE CONTACT CALLED THREE DIFFERENT DEALERS, AND WAS INFORMED THAT NONE OF THE DEALERS IN PUERTO RICO HAVE THE PART TO FIX THE RECALL. THE DEALERS WERE UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHEN THE PART WOULD ARRIVE. THE CONTACT WAS CURRENTLY ON THE WAITING LIST FOR TWO DEALERS. WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL THE CONTACT HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE NOISE MAGNIFIED WHEN TRAVELING BELOW 45 MPH UNDER ANY DRIVING CONDITIONS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 27,000, AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. *AK

RECALL ON TOYOTA TUNDRA IN 2007. THE BALL JOINTS WERE FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE BECAUSE OF A HARDNESS ISSUE ON THE SURFACE TREATMENT OF THE BALL. THE FAILURE WOULD BE A PREMATURE WEARING OR FAILURE OF THE JOINT. TOYOTA DID ISSUE A RECALL AND REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE. AFTER THE REPAIR THE VEHICLE HAD A HARD PULL TO THE RIGHT AND VIBRATION THAT DID NOT EXIST PRIOR TO THE REPAIR. AFTER TAKING IT BACK TO THE DEALER, THEY FOUND THE STEERING WHEEL AND FRONT END OUT OF ALIGNMENT. THE DEALER REPAIRED THESE BUT DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. AFTER A TOTAL OF 4 VISITS OVER A 6 MONTH PERIOD THE VEHICLE STILL HAS A DANGEROUS PULL VIBRATION. THE DEALER CANNOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PARTS AVAILABLE TO REPAIR THE RECALL. HE WOULD HAVE TO REMAIN ON THE WAITING LIST. THE CONTACT HAS NOTIFIED OTHER DEALERS IN THE AREA AND SURROUNDING STATES AND THEY HAVE GIVEN THE SAME RESPONSE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 27,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2005 TOYOTA TUNDRA. A MONTH AGO SHE RECEIVED A NOTICE TO HAVE THE FRONT: SUSPENSION: LOWER BALL JOINTS REPLACED PER RECALL NUMBER 07V013000. ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS THE TOYOTA DEALER AND MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER, THERE WERE 45 OWNERS AHEAD OF HER, AND THEY MAY BE ABLE TO SERVICE HER IN TWO TO THREE MONTHS. SHE CONTACTED EVERY TOYOTA DEALER IN HER AREA, AND THEY WERE ALSO UNABLE TO ASSIST HER. A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER ALSO ADVISED HER THAT PARTS WHERE NOT ORDERED UNDER HER NAME WHICH WAS CAUSING THE DELAY. SHE FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 17,600. *AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA TUNDRA. ON APRIL 1, 2007, THE CONTACT RECEIVED RECALL NOTICE # 07V013000 (SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER BALL JOINT). THE DEALER STATED THAT HIS NAME WOULD BE PLACED ON A WAITING LIST BECAUSE THEY WERE ONLY RECEIVING APPROXIMATELY TWO OR THREE PARTS PER WEEK. AS OF JULY 18, 2007, THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CAR IS DEAD. WE CALLED A TECHNICAIN AND HE CHECKED THE TRANSMISSION, HE SAID IT WAS A FAILURE. HE ADDED TRANSMISSION FLUID SO WE COULD DRIVE THE CAR TO POWER TOYOTA IN IRVINE, CA . THE MECHANIC AT THIS DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE TRANSMISSION DIED. THIS CAR WAS PURCHASED IN JANUARY2005, AND ITWAS A TUNDRA 6 CYLINDER 2005.*AK

AN APPOINTMENT WAS SCHEDULED FOR JULY OF 2007 SINCE THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE DEALER HAS NOT NOTIFIED HIM IF THE PARTS WERE AVAILABLE. ANOTHER TOYOTA DEALER IS 90 MILES AWAY. MY 2005 TOYOTA TUNDRA WAS IN FOR SERVICE THE MECHANIC SAID THERE WAS A RECALL ON THIS TRUCK SO I AGREED TO LET TOYOTA REPLACE MY BALL JOINTS (RECALL NO: 70B) AFTER THE REPLACEMENT WAS DONE THE VEHICLE STEERING BEGAN TO FADE TO THE LEFT AND THEN TO THE RIGHT I RETURNED TO THE DEALER AND HE SAID THAT IT NEEDED A FEW ADJUSTMENTS AFTER DRIVING IT AGAIN THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTED AFTER DRIVING THE TRUCK FOR A FEW MONTHS I FOUND THAT MY TIRES WERE WEARING DUE TO FEATHERING TO THE RIGHT AND LEFT ALSO THE VEHICLE BECAME HARD TO HOLD STRAIGHT IN LINE WHILE DRIVING WHEN I WOULD RUN OVER A SMALL DEPRESSION IN THE ROAD THE STEERING WOULD PULL ME IN TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I DROVE THE TRUCK BACK TO THE DEALER 08/06/2007 THEY DID A SERIES OF TEST BUT NOTHING WORKED. FINAL WORDS YOU JUST HAVE TO LIVE WITH IT. TL* - THE CONTACT CALLED REGARDING A RECALL FOR A SAFETY SEAT. THE RECALL STATED THE ONE SHOULD MANUALLY TURN OFF THE AIR BAGS IF THE CHILD SAT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. I HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA TUNDRA, SR5 ACCESS CAB, 6-CYL AND A 6-SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION. IN FEB 2007 THE THROWOUT BEARING STARTED TO GO BAD AT APPROX. 30,000 MILES (VEHICLE WAS ABOUT 8 MONTHS OLD) AND THE DEALER REPLACED THE ENTIRE CLUTCH UNDER WARRANTY. ABOUT A YEAR LATER THE THROWOUT BEARING WENT OUT AGAIN, WITH ABOUT 65,000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER AGAIN REPLACED THE ENTIRE CLUTCH UNDER WARRANTY AND ALSO REPLACED THE BELL HOUSING, STATING THAT THE BELL HOUSING WAS DEFECTIVE AND WAS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. NOW THE VEHICLE HAS ABOUT 82,000 MILES ON IT, IS 5 YEARS OLD, AND THE THROWOUT BEARING IS AGAIN MAKING NOISES, INDICATING THAT THE CLUTCH IS GOING OUT AGAIN. THIS IS NOT NORMAL FOR A CLUTCH TO WEAR OUT 3 TIMES IN 5 YEARS. I DO MOSTLY HIGHWAY DRIVING ON FLAT ROADS AND DO NOT TOW ANYTHING. THE TRUCK IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE CLUTCH REPLACEMENT COSTS QUITE A BIT. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT SOMETHING ELSE IS THE CAUSE OF THE CLUTCH REPEATEDLY GOING OUT. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE SEAT BELT MECHANISM NEED TO BE TORQUED TO SPECIFICATIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE USED APROX 10 YEARS AGO. THE ISSUE THAT I HAVE HAD LOOKED AT BY TOYOTA DEALERSHIP REMAINS UNRESOLVED. WHEN YOU TAKE YOUR FOOT OFF THE BRAKE IT IMMEDIATELY LUNGES FORWARD AND TRAVELS WITHOUT FOOT ON THE GAS UP TO SPEED OF 15 MPH ON FLAT LEVEL GROUND. IT IS DEFINITELY NOT SAFE. WHEN TAKEN TO THE SERVICE DEALER, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT A TECHNICIAN WOULD COME FROM PUERTO RICO TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE SOUND WAS CONTINUOUS ON ROUGH ROADS BUT NOT ON PAVED ROADS. THE KNOCKING SOUND WAS HEARD COMING FROM THE SOMEWHERE FROM THE FRONT SUSPENSION ALL THE TIME AND OCCASIONALLY FROM THE REAR SUSPENSION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED.
DRIVING WB ON HWY 4 NEAR DOUGLAS FLAT, CA APPROX 55 MPH ON TWO LANE HIGHWAY. THE 2005 TOYOTA TUNDRA 4WD DRIVER SIDE FRONT WHEEL DETACHED, FOLDING UNDER FRONT LEFT SIDE FRAME BEHIND WHEEL WELL WITH THE TRUCK LANDING ON THE FLAT SIDE OF THE WHEEL. I WAS THEN IN A CONTROLLED SKID ON A STRAIGHT PART OF THE HIGHWAY AND HELD THE STEERING WHEEL IN THAT POSITION. I DID NOT APPLY THE BRAKES AS I DID NOT WANT TO ALTER THE DIRECTION OF THE SKID. THE VEHICLE DRIFTED SLIGHTLY TO THE RIGHT AFTER ABOUT A 150 FOOT SKID. THE WHEEL HUB HAD SEPARATED FROM THE UPPER AND LOWER CONTROL ARM, THE BALL JOINT HAD DETACHED FROM THE A-FRAME, AND THE WHEEL AND TIRE (REPLACED TWO WEEKS PRIOR) WERE DAMAGED. THE ONLY THING APPARENTLY HOLDING THE WHEEL TO THE FRAME WAS THE STEERING ROD. NOT BEING A MECHANIC OR HAD THE VEHICLE LOOKED AT BY A MECHANIC AS YET I AM NOT SURE OF ALL DAMAGE SUSTAINED. PICTURES OF THE SCENE SHOW A SINGLE SKID MARK ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. I CONTACTED MY TOYOTA DEALER WHO DIDN'T SEEM TO INTERESTED SINCE THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED WITH 72,000 MILES ON THE TRUCK MEANING THAT THE 36 MONTH, 36,000 MILE WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER THE DAMAGE. IN RESEARCHING THE BALL JOINT COMPLAINT I FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2004 TUNDRA. IT WAS LUCKY THAT I WASN'T INJURED SINCE THE PREVIOUS DAY I HAD BEEN RETURNING FROM A JOB SITE VIA NB PARROTTS FERRY ROAD WHICH IS ABOUT A 1000 FT DESCENT ON A CURVING ROAD WHICH IN SEVERAL PLACES DROPS OFF INTO THE CANYON AND RESERVOIR BELOW. *NM

2005 TOYOTA TUNDRA LIMITED, I WAS HIT BACK RIGHT MIDDLE OF TIRE, CAVING IN TRUCK BED, LOSING COMPLETE CONTROL OF VEHICLE, AXLE AND TRANSMISSION DISMANTLED, WENT INTO A 360 SPIN WITH BACK TIRES COMPLETELY BENT AND NO CONTROL. THEN HIT HEAD ON AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED OVER 35-45 MPH. WITH AIR-BAGS NOT GOING OFF! TRUCK WAS COMPLETELY REBUILT WITH HIDDEN COST NOT RELEASED TO ME. CRUISE CONTROL DOWN SHIFTS TWO GEARS ON SLIGHT UPGRADES. EVEN ELEVATION CHANGES OF LESS THAN FIFTY FEET ON THE HIGHWAY CAN TRIGGER THIS. THE SUDDEN UNINTENDED APPLICATION OF FULL THROTTLE ACCELERATION IS ALARMING AND DANGEROUS. THIS SURGE OR POWER ALWAYS RESULT IN THE CRUISE CONTROL SURGING PAST THE SET SPEED USUALLY BY FIVE MILES PER HOUR. DEPENDING ON TERRAIN THIS CAN HAPPEN AS OFTEN AS EVERY TWENTY SECONDS! *NM
WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR FAILED TO WORK. 6 MONTH OLD TRUCK AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR ASSEMBLY FAILED. TOYOTA FIXED IT UNDER WARRANTY. HAD TO WAIT 2 DAYS FOR THE PARTS. 10 MONTH LATER THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR FAILED AGAIN. THIS IS A TRUCK WITH LESS THEN 20K MILES. IN BOTH CASES I HAD TO DRIVE HOME IN THE RAIN WITHOUT ANY WIPERS. 1ST INCIDENT 2/22/06, 2ND 12/25/06. *NM
THE CRUISE CONTROL ON MY 2005 TOYOTA TUNDRA DOWNSHIFTS THE ENGINE ON THE SLIGHTEST INCLINE. IT JUMPS FROM APPROXIMATELY 2100 RPM'S TO OVER 3500 RPM'S. THIS CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO LOOSE TRACTION ON JUST A WET PAVEMENT, NOT RAINING JUST WET LAST VISIT TO THE DEALER THIS WAS PART OF THE ISSUES I WANTED THEM TO LOOK INTO. THE ONLY THING I GOT WAS "THAT'S JUST THE WAY THEY WORK". THIS IS A DEFINITE SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS SOME ATTENTION REAL SOON. TOYOTA WHICH OWNS SUBURAU HAS THE SAME TRANSMISSION PROBLEM AS THIS TUNDRA, I HAD ONE OF THOSE ALSO THAT DID THE VERY SAME THING. NOT ONLY A SAFETY ISSUE, BUT IT ALSO CAUSES MUCH MORE WEAR AND TEAR ON THE PARTS. THERE IS ALSO ISSUES WITH THE WAY THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTS, SOMETIMES IT DOES AND OTHER TIMES IT DON'T AND ALWAYS UNPREDICTABLE. THE CONVERTER LOCKUP LOCKS UP AT THE SLOWEST SPEEDS ,ANYWHERE FROM 20 TO 55 MPH. IN CITY TRAFFIC THIS CAUSES YOU TO DOWNSHIFT CONSTANTLY AND ONCE YOU DO YOU HAVE TO GET RIGHT BACK OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND OR GET ON THE BRAKE. IT'S CRAZY TO BE "THAT'S JUST THE WAY THEY WORK". *JB
THE TRUCK WAS BRAND NEW AND ONLY HAD 4,500 MILES ON IT WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE TRUCK STARTED ACTING FUNNY. TOYOTA SAID THEY WERE NOT GOING TO FIX IT AND I WAS NEVER GIVEN A REPLACEMENT UNDER LEMON LAW WHEN THIS HAPPENED. I HAD JUST GOT THE TRUCK IN OCTOBER 2005 AND IN DECEMBER 2005 IT STARTED ACTING UP.
