T-SB-0101-12. TOYOTA DID NOT NOTIFY ME OF THIS TSB. I DID NOT DISCOVER THE ISSUE UNTIL 2 MONTHS AFTER MY 60 MONTH SERVICE DATE. THE DEALERSHIP FORTS TOYOTA OF PEKIN ILLINOIS WOULD NOT HELP ME. CONTACT AT TOYOTA CORPORATE THEY TOLD ME BECAUSE IT WAS PAST MY 60 MONTHS SERVICE THEY COULD NOT HELP ME EITHER. SO NOW I'M LEFT WITH A VEHICLE THAT IS RUSTING APART THAT I PAID OVER $30,000 FOR. I HAVE BEEN ASKING AND CALLING FOR OVER 2 YEARS, AND NOW I WAS LED TO THIS WEBSITE TO FILE A COMPLAINT HERE JUST RECENTLY.
TURNED THE TRUCK ON AND THE CHECK ENGINE AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS WERE BOTH ON, 4 LO AND VSC OFF LIGHTS WERE BOTH FLASHING, THE TRUCK SOUNDED NOTICEABLY LOUDER AND NOW HAS A LOSS OF POWER. CODES SHOW P2440. *JS
TRUCK WOULDN'T ACCELERATE WHEN PULLING OUT IN TRAFFIC. WILL NOT REACH SAFE SPEED FOR FREEWAY COMMUTE. *JS
THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM. INITIALLY, MY TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO A TOYOTA DEALER SERVICE CENTER ON 3/15/2012 TO AN ISSUE WITH MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, SLIP INDICATOR LIGHT, 4-WHEEL DRIVE (4LO), VSC OFF ALL CAME ON, SLUGGISH ACCELERATION/LOSS OF ACCELERATION OCCURRED WHEN DRIVEN & MY GAS MILEAGE/FUEL EFFICIENCY DECREASED (MY TRUCK APPEARED TO 'RUN RICH'). INITIALLY THE WARNING/INDICATOR LIGHTS WOULD OCCASIONALLY STAY ON WHEN THE TRUCK WAS STARTED, OTHER TIMES THEY WOULD NOT. EVENTUALLY, THEY JUST STAYED ON WHENEVER THE TRUCK WAS STARTED. WHEN SERVICED, I WAS TOLD THAT THE ISSUE WAS COVERED BY MY WARRANTY & THE SECONDARY AIR SWITCHING VALVE WAS REPLACED WHICH SHOULD HAVE FIXED THE ISSUE. JUST OVER A YEAR LATER, 3/19/2013, THE SAME ISSUE HAS OCCURRED AFTER BEING TOLD THE PROBLEM WAS FIXED! THE MILEAGE THAT THIS OCCURRED AT WAS AROUND 44,000. THE PROBLEM WAS PRESENTING IN THE SAME WAY - LOSS OF ACCELERATION/SLUGGISH ACCELERATION (EXTREMELY DANGEROUS NOT TO HAVE ACCELERATION WHILE TRAVELING ON A HIGHWAY/INTERSTATE), THE SAME WARNING/INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON & THE GAS MILEAGE/FUEL EFFICIENCY DECREASED BECAUSE THE TRUCK IS 'RUNNING RICH' AGAIN. TOOK IT TO A HONDA DEALERSHIP SERVICE CENTER TO MAKE SURE I WOULD BE ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN GAVE THE ERROR CODE OF P2440 WHICH IS AN ERROR CODE FOR THE AIR INTAKE PUMP. HONDA DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE OF THE MAKE OF TRUCK. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP WHERE THIS PROBLEM WAS INITIALLY DIAGNOSED & 'FIXED' THE FIRST TIME. HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN THAT THE ISSUE IS THE SAME PROBLEM AS LAST TIME. HOWEVER, THIS TECHNICIAN HAS INFORMED ME THAT THE REASON THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED YET AGAIN, IS BECAUSE THERE IS A PASSENGER SIDE & A DRIVER SIDE PART. THE ONE REPLACED LAST YEAR WAS THE PASSENGER SIDE. THIS TIME, IT'S THE DRIVERS SIDE THAT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. *TR
HELLO, TWO DAY AGO I WAS PULLING PUT OF MY CONDO COMPLEX WHEN I NOTICED A BURNING PLASTIC SMELL. AFTER ABOUT 20 SECONDS SMOKE AND VERY SMALL FLAMES STARTED TO POUR OUT OF THE DRIVERS DOOR PANEL WHERE THE SWITCHES ARE LOCATED. THERE WAS NO MAJOR FIRE DAMAGE BUT THE CAR WAS FILLED WITH SMOKE AND THE SWITCH THAT OPERATES THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WINDOW MELTED DOWN. I FORTUNATELY HAD SOME TOOLS NEARBY SO I QUICKLY DISCONNECTED THE BATTERY CABLES AS IT WAS STILL ARCING AND SPARKING. THE ONLY SWITCH THAT WORKS PROPERLY IS THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT WINDOW. THE FOLLOWING DAY I TOLD MY CO WORKER ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED. TODAY HE SHOWED ME THE AUTOBLOG.COM ARTICLE REGARDING THE STORY ABOUT TOYOTAS WINDOW SWITCHES CATCHING FIRE. ALMOST UNCONTROLLABLE VIBRATION WHEN APPLYING BRAKE PRESSURE AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN 40 MPH BUT THE VIBRATION IS PRESENT AT ANY SPEED. THE PROBLEM FELT LIKE POSSIBLY WARPED ROTORS SO THE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS WERE REPLACED WITH NEW TO NO AVAIL. THE PROBLEM REMAINS AT ANY SPEED AND IS VERY MUCH A SAFETY CONCERN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BOLT FOR THE FUEL TANK FRACTURED AND DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO RUST AND THE FUEL TANK STRAPS WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED. THE CONTACT WAS TOLD BY THE MANUFACTURER THAT THEY WOULD EXTEND HIS WARRANTY TO COVER HALF OF THE REPAIR COSTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN, BUT THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 57,000. BRAKE LIGHTS ON THE DASH BOARD DID NOT APPEAR/ OR NO WARNING SIGNS AT ALL THAT BRAKES IS NOT TOTALLY WORKING AND WE ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT. *TR
I WAS INVOLVED IN A CAR ACCIDENT WHERE A FULL SIZE DODGE RAM PICK UP HIT ME ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF MY TOYOTA. IT HIT ME ON THE FRONT FENDER AND SLIGHTLY ON THE FRONT OF THE DOOR. WHEN I WAS HIT ON THE SIDE MY SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. WHEN I WAS HIT MY HEAD IT THE DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW AND KNOCKED ME OUT. WHICH IN TURN MY TRUCK WAS STILL IN MOTION WHILE I WAS KNOCKED OUT AND I PROCEEDED TO GO THROUGH A LADIES YARD AND CAME TO A STOP ONCE IT HIT HER SHED HEAD ON, WHICH THOSE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY EITHER. I HAD TO BE TRANSPORTED BY AMBULANCE TO THE HOSPITAL HAVE A CT SCAN DONE. I SUFFER FROM HEAD ACHES, NECK PAIN AND SHORT TERM MEMORY LOSS. I ALSO HAD TO MISS TWO DAYS OF WORK. THE WRECK WAS SUFFICIENT ENOUGH IT TOTALED BOTH FULL SIZE PICK UPS. *TR
MY VEHICLE SET A DTC P2440 FOR THE SECONDARY AIR INDUCTION VALVE STUCK OPEN. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS REPAIR IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY DUE TO WATER INTRUSION. THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT MY VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN UNDER WATER OR OFF ROAD. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW/ENGINEERING DEFECT THAT TOYOTA CREATED AND SHOULD BE TREATED AS A RECALL FOR ALL AFFECTED MODELS FOR REPLACEMENT FOR A BETTER OR REDESIGNED PART. THE COST OF REPLACEMENT FOR THE AFFECTED PARTS IS BEYOND REASONABLE FOR ALL TOYOTA OWNERS. TOYOTA NEEDS TO STEP UP AND FIX THERE FLAW. I PULLED OUT ONTO A PUBLIC ROAD AND HAD NO POWER AND WAS NEARLY INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. ITS NOT SAFE AND VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
I WAS REAR-ENDED BY AN 18 WHEELER AND RAMMED INTO THE BACK OF A FORD F250. THE DAMAGE WAS IN EXCESS OF $12,500. FRAME DAMAGE OCCURRED. THE REAR WINDOW HAD TO BE REPLACED. I SUSTAINED A NECK INJURY TO INCLUDE TWO HERNIATED DISKS. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THE ACCELERATOR WOULD NOT DISENGAGE. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ACCELERATE RAPIDLY AND THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH BOTH FEET BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND. THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THE TECHNICIANS STATED THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE BECAUSE THE BLACK BOX IN THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT HAVE RECORDED THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION UNLESS A CRASH OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBERS: 09V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL) AND NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V017000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL). THE RECALL REPAIRS WERE NOT PERFORMED AT THE CONTACTS REQUEST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 116,921.

I TOOK MY TUNDRA IN FOR THE GAS PEDAL RECALL REPAIR, NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES PRIOR. EVER SINCE THE "FIX" WAS PERFORMED, I HAVE AN UNCONTROLLED LURCHING WHEN PULLING AWAY FROM A STOP. *JS
AFTER THE DEALER COMPLETED THE ACCELERATOR RECALL, MY TRUCK NOW HAS A SLIGHT STALL WHEN TAKING OFF AND IF THERE IS ANY ROUGHNESS IN DRIVING SURFACE, THE TRUCK DOES THIS LURCHING/ACCELERATION AT EACH BUMP. IT'S ALMOST LIKE WHEN THEY REPROGRAMMED THE ACCELERATOR, THEY MADE IT TOO SENSITIVE. I WASN'T HAVING A PROBLEM WITH THE PEDAL PRIOR TO THEIR "FIX" BUT THEY FORCED ME TO HAVE THE "REPAIR" DONE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BEGAN TO STICK WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE CONTACTS VEHICLE HAD THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V017000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL ACCELERATOR PEDAL) RECALL. THE VIN WAS NOT A PART OF THE RECALL; THE FAILURE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,000.
2 AIR INDUCTION PUMPS (AIP) AND ASSOCIATED VALUES FAILURE AROUND 60K MILES. ACCORDING TO TOYOTA THE REASON FOR THE FAILURE IS MOISTURE. NEW PUMPS AND VALVES CAN BE INSTALLED FOR $4000 OR IF YOU ARE LUCKY AND YOU ONLY NEED TO REPLACE ONE PUMP AND BOTH VALVES IT ONLY COST $2150. THE NEW PUMPS AND VALUES HAVE BEEN MODIFIED SO THEY SHOULD NOT FAILURE AS FAST AS ORIGINALS. IF THE NEW PUMPS AND VALVES HAD TO BE "MODIFIED" THEN IT LEADS ONE TO BELIEVE THE ORIGINALS HAD A DESIGN FLAW. *TR
2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA 4.7L ENGINE P2442 CODE ENGINE IN LIMP MODE. SECONDARY AIR INTAKE VALVE FAILED IN OPEN POSITION. 62000 MILES. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECTIVE SYSTEM THAT FAILS IF DRIVEN IN WET CONDITIONS DUE TO POOR AIR FAN INTAKE DESIGN. IT SITS IN THE WHEEL WELL AND IS WET ALL THE TIME. THIS LEADS TO WATER BEING PUSHED INTO THE AIR VALVE CAUSING IT TO FAIL. *TR
2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA WENT INTO LIMP MODE. ERROR P2442 REPORTED. 75K MILES ON TRUCK WITH AIR INDUCTION SYSTEM VALVE STICKING DUE TO WHAT APPEAR TO BE WATER INTRUSION. THE FAILURE STARTED OUT INTERMITTENTLY, THEN BECAME CONSISTENT. COST $1000 TO REPLACE BOTH VALVES IN EACH AIR INDUCTION BANK. WORRIED THAT THE PUMPS WILL FAIL IN THE NEAR FUTURE. UNHAPPY TOYOTA CUSTOMER. POOR ENGINEERING DESIGN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT ALL OF THE LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WERE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE AIR INJECTION PUMP WAS SUFFERING FROM WATER INTRUSION. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE FAILURE WAS A COMMON ISSUE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.

DRIVE YOLK WENT OUT AND BLEW THE REAR TRANSMISSION SEAL. COULD HAVE DROPPED THE DRIVE SHAFT AND CAUSED SERIOUS INJURY. OVER 2000 DOLLARS TO REPAIR. THIS TRUCK HAS BEEN MAINTAINED TO THE TEE, ALL MAINTENANCE DONE ON THE DOT! VERY WELL TAKEN CARE OF. THE TRUCK IS WITH HIGH MILEAGE, 90,000. HOWEVER, WE WERE TOLD AT TIME SALE IT HAD A 100,000 MILE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY IN WHICH THERE WAS NO WORRY THERE BECAUSE IF MAINTAINED IT WOULD LAST FOR 300,000 PLUS MILES.NOW WE ARE TOLD THAT IS NOT SO IT WAS NOT 100,000 MILES, IT WAS ONLY 60,000. THE TRUCK WAS VERY WELL MAINTAINED, ALL HIGHWAY MILES, DRIVE 50 MILES ONE WAY TO WORK EVERYDAY ON INTERSTATE, NEVER TAKEN OFF ROAD, NEVER PULL ANYTHING. WELL SO MUCH FOR HONESTY, BECAUSE THEY BASICALLY TOLD ME TO BAD, SO SAD. I SEE TOYOTA IS RECALLING ALL THE 2011 MODELS FOR DRIVE YOLK FAILURE, AND I HAVE SEEN QUITE A FEW COMPLAINTS ON VARIOUS PLACES ONLINE ON THE 2007 TUNDRA?S DRIVE SHAFT/YOLK. THEY DID RECALL THE DRIVESHAFTS FOR THE 4X4 TUNDRAS IN 2007, BUT NOT THE 4 X 2?S. CAN?T THEY SEE THERE IS A PROBLEM HERE ALSO? THE TRUCK ALWAYS FELT LIKE SOMETHING WAS BUMPING YOU WHEN YOU STOPPED. WE WERE JUST TOLD IT WAS NORMAL FOR THE TUNDRA. SO WATCH OUT FOLKS WITH LOWER MILEAGE. I BOUGHT A TOYOTA WHEN I WAS GOING TO GET ANOTHER VEHICLE WITH A LONGER BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY BUT THE TOYOTA SALESMAN TALKED US OUT OF IT WITH HIS 100,000 MILE (LIE) POWER TRAIN WARRANTY AND HIS 300,000 MILE COMMENTS. WELL, WHAT DO I DO NOW? THIS IS RIDICULOUS THAT THEY WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THERE PRODUCT OR EVEN OFFER A DISCOUNT, JUST A SORRY ABOUT YOUR LUCK! *TR
1ST WEEK OF APRIL, 2011, 2007 TUNDRA WENT INTO "LIMP" MODE, HOOKED UP TESTER, SAID P2442 CODE. COMMON PROBLEM, ON THESE TRUCKS, FROM WHAT DEALER TOLD ME. ORDERED PARTS, AT THAT TIME. $1500.00 OF PARTS ORDERED. TOOK 9 WEEKS, TO GET PARTS. A VERY DANGEROUS TRUCK TO DRIVE, WITH THIS SITUATION. CAN'T PARK IT, TO WAIT 9 WEEKS, FOR PARTS, STILL MAKING PAYMENTS. NO POWER, DANGEROUS ON FREEWAY, OR ANY WHERE ELSE. TOYOTA WAS STILL SENDING NEW TRUCKS, TO BE SOLD, WHEN, THEY COULD HAVE SENT PARTS, TO FIX THIS VERY EXPENSIVE, AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM. IF THIS IS AN EMISSIONS ISSUE, SHOULDN'T A RECALL BE MADE, AND AT LEAST PRTS TO FIX, BE REIMBURSED? HAVE PURCHASED 5 NEW TOYOTAS, FOR FAMILY AND BUSINESS, OVER LAST 10 YEARS, WILL LOOK ELSEWHERE, NEXT TIME I TRADE. I WENT FROM DOMESTIC, TO TOYOTA, FOR THE SAME REASON, 10 YEARS AGO. NOW TOYOTA IS ACTING LIKE FORD AND GM, DID, AT THAT TIME./ WILL BUY GM OR FORDS NEXT TIME. TOYOTA HAS TREATED ME LIKE CRAP, AT THE DEALER LEVEL, AND ON THE CORPORATE LEVEL. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE VSC-OFF, FOUR WHEEL DRIVE LOW, CHECK ENGINE AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT BEGAN TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BUT THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED FAR LESS POWER THAN NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE AIR INJECTION PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. WHEN I CONTACTED TOYOTA USA I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS CURRENTLY NO RECALL FOR THE ISSUE I WAS EXPERIENCING AND I WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER CORROSION WARRANTY BECAUSE MY TRUCK HAD BEEN EXPORTED OUT OF THE USA. IT WAS NOT UNTIL A FEW YEARS LATER I WAS TOLD BY THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE AS WELL AS AN ISSUE OF FRAME RUSTING. 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA, I WAS TAKING MY TUNDRA IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I STARTED LOSING POWER ON MY TRUCK I HAD THEM CHECK IT. TOYOTA CAME BACK AND SAID THAT FUEL VAPOR SWITCHING VALVE WAS STUCK CLOSED, I TOOK IT TO ANOTHER REPAIR SHOP FOR A SECOND OPINION THEY FOUND THAT A SECONDARY INJECTION PUMP WAS STUCK OPEN, THEY SUGGESTED I TAKE IT BACK TO TOYOTA FOR CLARIFICATION. TOYOTA'S SECOND DIAGNOSIS WAS THEY FOUND BOTH AIR INJECTION PUMPS WERE CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FOR $2100.00. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW THE DEALER CALLED TOYOTA AND SAID THEY WOULD PAY $600.00 BUT I HAD TO PAY FOR THE REST. THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW THAT TOYOTA HAS ALL BUT ADMITTED TO BUT WON'T REALLY DO ANYTHING TO FIX IT. THEY SHOULD BE HELP RESPONSIBLE FOR THE WHOLE AMOUNT. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE OVER 100,000 KMS. ALSO PURCHASED EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THIS VEHICLE HOWEVER THESE PARTS ARE NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. TOOK THE PUMP OFF THE VEHICLE AND DRAINED THE WATER FROM THE POORLY DESIGNED SYSTEM, LUBRICATED THE PUMP AND GOT IT WORKING. TRUCK WENT BACK INTO LIMP MODE AFTER A COUPLE DAYS NOW APPARENTLY VALVE BANK IS STUCK. TOYOTA STILL RECOMMENDS REPLACING ALL THE PARTS FOR $4700. NOT HAPPY WITH TOYOTA THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL THE PUMP IS LOCATED IN THE FENDER WELL DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF RIGHT FRONT TIRE, THE INTAKE PIPE FOR THE PUMP IS DESIGNED SO THAT ANY WATER PRESENT GOES DIRECTLY INTO THE PUMP CAUSING THE SYSTEM FAILURE. IT WOULD BE A PRETTY SIMPLE FIX FOR TOYOTA JUST PUT A 90 DEGREE BEND IN THE PIPE SO THAT WATER CANNOT GET IN AND REPOSITION THE INTAKE HOLE. TRYING TO SELL TUNDRA IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED. *KB

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 63,000.

7/2007 PURCHASED 07 TUNDRA W/MAINT PLAN&EXTENDED WARRANTY 9/2010 4342MILES SOUTHCOAST TOYOTA-MAINTENANCE,WE ASKED THEM TO TAKE A LOOK AT SURFACE RUST. THEY NOTED IT AND SAID WAS DUE TO SALT AIR 2/2012 6504MILES SOUTHCOAST TOYOTA TO PERFORM BRAKE SERVICE. APPARENTLY BRAKE PAD HAD FALLEN OFF DUE TO CORROSION OF CALIPERS & PINS AND THEY REFUSE TO SERVICE THE TRUCK BECAUSE IT WOULD BE TOO MUCH TO REPAIR BUT REFUSE TO EVEN GIVE US ESTIMATE. THEY SAID THE CORROSION HAS COMPROMISED THE SAFETY OF THE TRUCK, BUT NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. WE WERE TOLD THAT WE DID NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE ENOUGH AND THAT'S WHY IT IS RUSTED SO BADLY ALL OVER (TRUCK WAS DRIVEN LOCALLY AT LEAST 3 OR 4 TIMES A WEEK BY ELDERLY COUPLE). WE REQUESTED A COPY OF FIELD REPS REPORT, BUT THEY SAID IT IS PROPRIETARY INFO WE DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO. SERVICE MANAGER RUDELY ASKED US TO REMOVE OUR TRUCK FROM THE DEALERSHIP BUT WE CANNOT DRIVE IT OFF BECAUSE BRAKES NOT OPERATING PROPERLY. WERE TOLD TO TAKE THE 5 YR OLD TRUCK WITH 6500 MILES TO THE JUNK YARD. DURING 2010 MAINTENANCE WHEN THEY WERE AWARE OF CORROSION, WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADVISED OF POSSIBLE BRAKE FAILURE OR WEAKENED STRUCTURE DUE TO RUST THAT WOULD OCCUR IN LESS THAN TWO YEARS TIME. AIR INJECTION SYSTEM FAILURE CAUSES A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO APPEAR AND CAN CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO GO INTO "CRIPPLE" MODE LIMITING THROTTLE AND SPEED TO 40 MPH WHICH COULD BE A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN IN SOME DRIVING CONDITIONS. DEALER STATED THEY CURRENTLY HAVE TWO OTHER TUNDRAS THERE WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM THEY.ARE "REPLACING THE AIR INJECTION PUMPS AND VALVES FOR A TOTAL COST OF ~$4000 IF THE VEHICLE IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY ANYMORE THIS IS ALL AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THIS IS A DANGEROUS PROBLEM DUE TO IT PREVENTS ACCELERATION AND YOU HAVE A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER QUITE DANGEROUS WHEN MERGING OR IN A FLOW OF TRAFFIC.. *TR
2007 TUNDRA HAD A HISTORY OF LOOSING POWER, TOOK IT INTO DEALERSHIP AND THEY FOUND AIR INJECTION PUMP AND VALVE SET WERE RUSTED AND FULL OF WATER. AT A COST OF $2000.00, AND THIS IS FOR ONE SIDE ONLY, THE OTHER SIDE CAN GO AT ANY TIME. I UNDERSTAND THESE ARE NOT UPDATED PARTS AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. ALL OUT OF MY POCKET. BESIDES BEING A SAFETY ISSUE, THIS A COSTLY REPAIR FOR WHAT I CONSIDER TO BE A DEFECTIVE SYSTEM. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ISSUE!!!!!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED AFTER RECEIVING A RECALL IN REGARDS TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V579000 (POWER TRAIN:DRIVELINE:DRIVESHAFT) AND TAKING THE VEHICLE IN FOR INSPECTION, HE WAS ADVISED THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT EXPERIENCING THE FAILURE. WITHIN A FEW MONTHS, HE NOTICED THAT WHEN HE DROVE AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THERE WAS A VERY VIOLENT SHAKING IN THE DRIVE SHAFT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT THEY WERE NOT GOING TO ASSIST HIM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
