TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA. HE RECEIVED NOTIFICATION FROM TOYOTA ADVISING HIM THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS A PART OF THE TOYOTA ACCELERATOR PEDAL RECALL (SEE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V017000) IN OCTOBER OF 2009. HE HAS BEEN IN CONTACT WITH HIS DEALER FROM OCTOBER 2009 TO FEBRUARY 2010 TO HAVE THE NECESSARY RECALL REPAIR PERFORMED. HE WAS TOLD THAT THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE AND THEY DID NOT KNOW WHEN THEY WOULD BECOME AVAILABLE. HE WAS ALSO ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT HIM UPON RECEIVING THE NECESSARY PARTS. THE CONTACT IS CONCERNED THAT HE HAD TO WAIT SO LONG TO HAVE THE DEFECT REPAIRED SINCE IT COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE A CRASH TO OCCUR. THERE WERE NO FAILURES TO DATE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 22,500.

AS I SLOW DOWN I FEEL A CLUNK IN THE TRANSMISSION. A FEW SECONDS AFTER I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, IT FEELS AS IF SOMEONE BUMPS ME IN THE REAR, ONLY THERE'S NO CAR BEHIND ME.. ALSO IN THE MORNINGS THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT CHANGE INTO 6TH GEAR UNTIL I DRIVE APP. 1 MILE . *TR
FLOOR MAT IN MY 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA SLID FORWARD CAUSING THE ACCELERATOR TO DEPRESS FULLY. AVOID CRASH BY SHIFTING TO NEUTRAL AND TURNING THE ENGINE OFF THEN DISCOVERED THE PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 TUNDRA DC TRD TRUCK. I REPLACED THE OEM TIRES AT 19500 MILES (BFG RUGGED TRAILS) WITH MICHELIN LTX AT2'S MARCH 2009. I NOW HAVE 23,800 MILES ON THE TRUCK. NOW ANYTIME I GO OVER ANY TYPE OF BUMP REGARDLESS OF SPEED THE BED BOUNCES SO BAD THAT IT VIBRATES UP THROUGH THE CAB. THE BED BOUNCED BEFORE BUT NOT THIS BAD. I FEEL IT IN THE DRIVERS SEAT. IF I DRIVE ON A BACK DIRT ROAD THE BACK END BOUNCES ALL OVER THE ROAD. I BROUGHT THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY HADN'T HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM WHEN I REPORTED IT IN SEPTEMBER OF 2009. NOW THAT THE MECHANIC CALLED TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS IN CA, HE SAID THERE WERE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS AND THAT THERE WAS NO FIX FOR IT. SERVICE MANAGER SAID IT WAS THE TIRES. DEALER RECOMMENDED I ADD WEIGHT IN THE BED, I ADDED 5 SANDBAGS, 300 LBS (WINTER IS ALMOST HERE) AND IT MADE NO DIFFERENCE TO THE RIDE. I BELIEVE THIS COULD LEAD TO A SERIOUS ACCIDENT IF NOT CORRECTED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THERE WAS AN OCCUPANT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT AND SUDDENLY, THE "AIR BAG" WARNING INDICATOR DISPLAYED THE "OFF" POSITION. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE AIR BAG SENSOR DETECTED AN OCCUPANT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE AIR BAG SYSTEM WAS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THE CONTACT HAS CONCERNS OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 22,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 23,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RADIO IS INOPERATIVE. ALSO AFTER REMOVING THE CD DISK FROM THE CD PLAYER, THE CD DISK IS MELTED. SHE HAS TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER MULTIPLE TIMES AND HAS HAD THE RADIO: CD: TAPE DECK REPLACED. NONE OF THE REPAIRS HAVE REMEDIED THE FAILURE. SHE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, BUT WAS NOT PROVIDED WITH ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 9,000. UPDATED 10/21/09 *BF UPDATED 10/20/09
TOYTOTA TUNDRA 2007 SPEED WENT FROM 60 MPH TO UNDER 20 MPH. CAR HAS SINCE BE DIAGOSED WITH DEFECTIVE AIR FLOW HANDLER, DEALERSHIP WANTS ME TO PAY $5,000 TO REPAIR THIS PART. THIS SITUATION CAUSED A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS REPAIR SHOULD BE DONE AT THE COST OF THE MANUFACTURER SINCE THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 63,000 MILES ON IT. *TR
ON JULY 12, 2009 I ATTEMPTED TO STOP FOR A RED LIGHT IN MY 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA. NO MATTER HOW HARD I PUT ON BRAKES, MY VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. THE TRAFFICE REPORT AND INSURANCE COMPANY DOCUMENTED MY EXPERIENCE (OF BEING UNABLE TO STOP MY TRUCK). MY TRUCK WAS TOTALED. *TR
A FRIEND AND I WERE ATTEMPTING TO LAUNCH HIS JETSKI. I BACKED MY TRUCK DOWN THE BOAT RAMP AND MY FRIEND WAS ON THE JETSKI. MY FRIEND WAS HAVING TROUBLE GETTING THE JETSKI TO COME OFF THE TRAILER SO, I PUT THE TRUCK INTO PARK AND GOT OUT TO SHOVE THE JETSKI OFF. AS I GOT OUT I NOTICED THE TRUCK LUNGE AND START TO ROLL BACKWARDS. I ATTEMPTED TO REACH MY FOOT BACK IN TO HIT THE BRAKE. BY THIS TIME MY SHOES WERE WET AND BECAUSE OF THE POSITION OF MY BODY, MY FOOT SLIPPED OFF OF THE BRAKE PEDAL AND SMASHED THE GAS PEDAL WHICH CAUSED TRUCK TO TAKE OFF IN REVERSE. AS I WAS STILL HALFWAY IN AND OUT OF THE TRUCK THE DOOR DRUG ME DOWN THE BOAT RAMP AND UNDER THE WATER WITH THE TRUCK. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO GET FREE AND HAD NO SERIOUS INJURIES. THE TRUCK HOWEVER WAS FULLY SUBMERGED AND THE JETSKI TRAILER WAS BROKEN IN THE PROCESS. NOTE: THE ORIGINAL TRANSMISSION WAS CHANGED OUT UNDER A WARRANTY CLAIM AT AROUND 10,000 MILES BY THE DEALERSHIP. *TR
AIR PUMP IS FULL OF WATER. DEALER EMPTIEST, IT FILLS BACK UP. DEALER HAS NO EXPLANATION AS TO CAUSE. VEHICLE RUNS SLUGGISHLY. NEED TO ALLOW EXTRA TIME WHEN MERGING INTO TRAFFIC DUE TO POOR ACCELERATION. DEALER WANTS $3000 TO REPLACE UNIT. *TR
INTERMITTENT FUEL PUMP IN 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA 4.7L V8. ENGINE WOULD STOP RUNNING RANDOMLY, FIRST AT LOW SPEED AND THEN EVENTUALLY AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS (75 MPH). VERY DANGEROUS! FUEL PUMP REPLACED AFTER 30 DAYS OF STONEWALLING TO INCLUDE THE 'FIX' OF KEEPING THE GAS TANK AT LEAST 1/4 FULL. NEVER DETECTED BY THE COMPUTER; NO ERROR CODES EVER DISPLAYED. #25701-38060 EMISSION VALVE SET & CLIP FAILED. VEHICLE STARTED HAVING HESITATION (LIMP MODE) ISSUES....BECOMING NOT DRIVABLE. IT COST OUR COMPANY TIME AND MONEY. IT HAD TO BE REPAIRED A SECOND TIME THE NEXT YEAR....JUNE 29, 2010. TOYOTA IS LETTING CUSTOMERS PICK UP THE REPAIR COSTS FOR THEIR MIS-DESIGN. SERVICE DEPTS., BOTH AT SIOUX CITY IA & LINCOLN NE, STATED THIS HAD BEEN HAPPENING TO OTHER CUSTOMERS REGARDING THIS ISSUE ON THE 2007 TUNDRA. *TR
I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA (PURCHASED NEW ON MARCH 07) I NOTICED AROUND JUNE OF 2009 THAT THE VEHICLE VIBRATES WHEN BRAKING AT SPEED BETWEEN 40 TO 50 MILES. TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER WHERE I PURCHASED IT FROM ON SEPTEMBER 24, 2009 , THE SERVICE ADVISOR SAID THAT THERE ARE RUST ON THE FROND DISKS AND THE REAR DRUMS AND IT THEY NEED TO RESURFACE THE FRONT DISKS AND REAR DRUMS. TRUCK THEN HAD ONLY (15576 MILES), I PAID $418.12 FOR THE REPAIR, ADVISOR SAID IT IS NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. ON FEB. 2, 2010 I CONTACTED THE TOYOTA CONSUMER EXPERIENCE CENTER IN CA, THEY WOULD NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THERE IS AN ISSUE, AND SHE GAVE ME A CASE NO. AND SAID I SHOULD TALK TO THE SERVICE MANAGE AT THE DEALER ( I DID NOT CONTACT HIM, BECAUSE I FELT I GET NO SATISFACTION). YESTERDAY ON MARCH 10, 2010 THERE IS A NEW REPORT ABOUT RUST ISSUES ON THE 2007 TUNDRA'S; AND ITS BRAKES. THIS HAPPENED TO MY TRUCK ESPECIALLY AFTER SUCH A SHORT PERIOD AND ONLY 15576 MILES AT THE TIME I TOOK TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS. I AM NOW VERY CONCERNED NOT ONLY ABOUT THE BRAKES THAT ALREADY STARTED TO RUST AFTER A SHORT PERIOD, BUT ALSO ABOUT BRAKE LINES, UNDER CARRIAGE ETC. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. THE VEHICLE WENT INTO LIMP MODE, WHICH WAS A SAFETY FEATURE, BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT STALL. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHICH DETERMINED THAT THE EMISSION CONTROL VALVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE RECURRED AND THE DEALER STATED THE ENTIRE EMISSIONS SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER AGREED WITH THE DEALERS DIAGNOSIS AND STATED THE WARRANTY WAS NO LONGER VALID. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED BECAUSE THEY WERE NEVER GIVEN A REASON WHY THE VEHICLE WOULD RESORT TO A LIMP MODE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 137,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK. AFTER REPEATED APPLICATION SHE WAS ABLE TO RELEASE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. AN IDENTICAL FAILURE OCCURRED ON A SEPARATE OCCASION. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INSPECTED. THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 12,000.
2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA 6 SPEED TRANSMISSION TORQUE CONVERTER RUMBLE STRIP AND FAILURE. *TR
SINCE THE DAY THAT I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THE RUST. IT WAS 2 YES OLD WITH 17,000 MILES ON IT. THE BED AND FRAME ARE BADLY RUSTED. I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM TOYOTA ABOUT FRAME AND THEY APPLIED SOME WEIRD BLACK STUFF. TOTAL NIGHTMARE. THE BED ,EVEN THOUGH I FOUND A SERVICE BULLETIN THEY SAY TOO LATE TO DO ANYTHING. EVEN THOUGH I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING AT MORE THEN 5 DEALERSHIP'S SINCE 2009 AND CALLED CORPORATE NUMEROUS TIMES. THE BED IS DANGEROUS AND HAS BEEN. THE SUPPORT STRUCTURE,.AROUND MOUNTING BOLTS, EVENTUALLY BED WILL SEPARATE FROM FRAME. VERY CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE. KNOWN PROBLEM BUT WON'T HONOR . NEXT PROBLEM THAT THEY ALSO HAVE AN UPDATED WARRANTY WHICH I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED ABOUT. SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM FAILS ,WHICH IS AN EMISSIONS COMPONENT. CRITICAL TO KEEP EMISSIONS LOW.

I COMPLAINED ABOUT IT AT THE DEALER BUT THEY SAY THEY DO NOT KNOW HOW TO FIX IT? NOW THE BUMP IS GETTING EVEN MORE PRONOUNCED. ALSO IN THE MORNINGS THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT CHANGE INTO 5TH OR 6TH GEAR UNTIL I DRIVE APP. 1 MILE. I AM NEARING 25,000 MILES AND WOULD LIKE THESE ISSUES FIXED BEFORE THE EXPIRATION OF MY WARRANTY. *TR
MY 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA LUNGES FORWARD VERY OFTEN. IT DOES IT WHEN I'M COMING TO A STOP. IT WILL DO IT AS I'M DECELERATING OR EVEN AFTER I'VE COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I HIT MY WIFE'S CAR IN THE REAR BUMPER THIS WEEK WHILE I WAS FOLLOWING HER. THAT IS WHAT HAS FINALLY PUSHED ME OVER THE EDGE TO MAKE A COMPLAINT. I HAVE A 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA CREWMAX I FEEL A CLUNK IN THE TRANSMISSION OR REAR END A FEW SECONDS AFTER I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. IT FEELS AS IF SOME OTHER CAR HAS BUMPED ME IN THE REAR AND THERE ARE NO OTHER VEHICLES AROUND. ON SOME OCCASIONS THE THUMP IS MUCH WORSE THAN OTHER TIMES. THIS STARTED SEVERAL MONTHS AGO AND I THOUGHT IT MAY HAVE HAD SOMETHING TO DO WITH A SUDDEN STOP I MADE WHEN AN ANIMAL CROSSED THE ROAD IN FRONT OF ME. I HAVEN'T HAD MY DEALER CHECK THIS YET BUT I NOW REALIZE OTHERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM SO I WILL GET IT TO THE DEALER SOON. I HAVE A 2007 TUNDRA THAT HAS BEEN MODIFIED BY THE DEALER I.E. 3 INCH LIFT THEY REFUSE TO PROVIDE ME THE DETAILS OF THE LIFT ON THE TRUCK EVEN THOUGH I HAVE REPEATEDLY COMPLAINED. I FIRST THOUGHT THAT IT WAS PART OF THE RECALL, SO I MADE A COMPLAINT TO TOYOTA. THE MANAGER OF THE AUTO REPAIR PORTION OF THE DEALERSHIP CONTACTED AND TRIED TO EXPLAIN TO ME THAT WHAT WAS HAPPENING TO THE TRUCK WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. I THEN DID RESEARCH ON MY OWN AFTER DISCUSSING THE ISSUE WITH THEIR REPAIR SHOP AT STEVENS CREEK TOYOTA. WHAT IS HAPPENING IS THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM ALARM LIGHT IS COMING ON THE DASH AND STAYS ON. THIS HAPPENED THREE TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK. I AM UPSET THAT THE MANAGER TOLD ME THIS WAS NORMAL. IT IS NOT, IT ALSO AFFECTS HOW THE TRUCK DRIVES ONCE THE LIGHT COMES ON THE DASH. IT AFFECTS THE PEDAL WHICH CAN STICK AND YOU LOOSE CONTROL OF THE TRUCK. I HAVE LARGE TIRES ON MY CAR TO GO WITH THE LIFT. I HAVE CHECKED AND THEY APPEAR TO HAVE TPMS VALVES BUT THE DEALERSHIP REFUSES TO PROVIDE ME PROOF. I AM ENTITLED BY LAW TO KNOW WHAT WAS DONE TO MY TRUCK THAT AFFECTS HOW MY CAR HANDLES ESPECIALLY SINCE THE CAR WAS MODIFIED BY THE DEALER NOT ME. UPDATED 05/12/10.*JB
THE 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA DOUBLE CAB WITH 5.7 LITER ENGINE WAS EXPERIENCING VEHICLE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS. AFTER REPLACEMENT OF WIRING HARNESS, TRACTION CONTROL ECU, WHEEL SPEED SENSORS THE PROBLEM WAS NOT CORRECTED. A FACTORY TECHNICIAN WAS BROUGHT IN TO LOOK OVER THE VEHICLE. THE FACTORY TECHNICIAN INFORMED ME THAT THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEMS WITH MY TRUCK WERE BECAUSE SEVERAL SENSORS HAD LOST CALIBRATION DUE TO THE BATTERY BEING DISCONNECTED. THERE IS NO INFORMATION IN THE OWNERS MANUAL NOR ANY WARNING SIGNS ON THE VEHICLE THAT PROVIDE ANY CAUTIONARY STATEMENTS TO THE OWNER OR A SERVICE PROVIDER THAT DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY MAY RESULT IN THE LOSS OF CALIBRATION OF SENSORS IN THE VEHICLE. TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION HAS CLARIFIED THAT THIS INFORMATION IS ONLY IN THE FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL. A REVIEW OF SEVERAL TOYOTA REPAIR PROCEDURES, WHICH REQUIRE THE BATTERY TO BE DISCONNECTED CONTAIN NO WARNING TO CHECK SENSOR CALIBRATION. THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM IS ONE OF THE MAJOR SAFETY SYSTEMS OF THIS VEHICLE. WHEN IT FAILS, THE OPERATOR MAY LOOSE THROTTLE AND BRAKING CONTROL. I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE SHUT DOWN THE THROTTLE WHILE I WAS TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP SIGN AT AN INTERSECTION, THUS NEARLY CAUSING A T-BONE COLLISION. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH ON A SANDY ROAD, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL EXTENDED TO THE FLOOR WITHOUT ASSISTANCE. SUDDENLY, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AGGRESSIVELY AND FORCEFULLY AT 70 MPH. WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. THE CONTACT SHUT OFF THE IGNITION WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION IN ORDER TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. THE DRIVER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STARTED THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE RESUMED TO NORMAL OPERATION. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TWO DIFFERENT AUTHORIZED DEALERS FOR INSPECTION, BUT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURES. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 28,400 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28,800.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHEN HE MADE A SUDDEN STOP WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, THE REAR TIRE LOCKED AND THE VEHICLE SPUN AROUND. WHENEVER THE ROADS WERE WET OR COVERED WITH ICE HE LOST TRACTION, THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN. THE FAILURE USUALLY OCCURRED WHEN HE STARTED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE ALSO ACCELERATED WHEN HE SHIFTED INTO FOUR WHEEL DRIVE. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER THREE TIMES FOR THE FAILURES. CHRISTMAS EVE 2008 MY WIFE AND I WERE DRIVING OUR 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA FROM BEL AIR MARYLAND TO LADSON, SC. I TRIED TO CALL AAA BUT WAS UNABLE TO CORRECTLY DIAL MY CELL PHONE AS I WAS STILL TOO EXCITED DUE TO THE RUSH OF ADRENALINE I HAD EXPERIENCED. MY WIFE AND I THOUGHT THE PROBLEM WAS RELATED TO THE CRUISE CONTROL SO ONCE I CALMED DOWN WE CONTINUED OUR DRIVE TO SC. I WAS NEVER ABLE TO REGAIN SPEED CONTROL DURING THE SECOND INCIDENT. I HAD TO STAND ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH BOTH FEET AND PULL AGAINST THE STEERING WHEEL WHILE TRYING TO GET OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD SAFELY. ONCE OFF THE ROAD I WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE. WHILE DRIVING ON ANY CEMENT FREEWAY (ESPECIALLY THOSE IN SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA (101 VENTURA)), I EXPERIENCED A "BED BOUNCE" THAT WAS SO SEVERE, I ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. STUCK GAS PEDAL. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED OVER A YEAR AGO WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON US101 HIGHWAY NEAR TILLAMOOK, OREGON WITH TWO OF MY BROTHERS, ONE ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, AND ONE ON THE BACK. WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE, THE RPM SHOT TO 6000 AGAIN, AND THIS TIME I TAPPED ON THE GAS PADDLE COUPLE TIMES, AND THE ENGINE DROPPED BACK DOWN TO IDLE. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROX. 55MPH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ON MY 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA SUDDENLY DROPPED TO THE FLOOR BELOW MY RIGHT FOOT. MY TRUCK ACCELERATED TO FULL THROTTLE. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ON. THE ACCELERATOR WAS NOT STUCK TO THE FLOOR MAT. THE TRUCK ACCELERATED AT A RAPID PACE AND NEARLY RAN INTO THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME ON THE ROADWAY. I ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE BY TAPPING ON THE BRAKES, THEN THE ACCELERATOR AND TURNING THE CRUISE CONTROL BUTTON OFF EVEN THOUGH THE CRUISE WAS ALREADY OFF. NOTHING RESPONDED AND THE TRUCK CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE TO A DANGEROUS SPEED. THE ACCELERATOR WAS "FLOORED" AND WOULD NOT MOVE. I HAD TO MANEUVER AROUND THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME AND SEVERAL THAT PASSED GOING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION QUICKLY. THE TRUCK WAS GAINING SPEED AT AN INCREDIBLY RAPID PACE. I CONTINUED TO BRAKE THE TRUCK IN AN ATTEMPT TO STOP THE VEHICLE AND PREVENT LOOSING CONTROL. I THEN ATTEMPTED TO DOWN-SHIFT THE TRANSMISSION. THIS CAUSED THE ENGINE TO REV UNCONTROLLABLY. THE SAME HAPPENED WHEN SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL IN AN ATTEMPT TO TURN THE ENGINE OFF WITH THE KEY. THE RPM'S WERE REVVING SO HIGH THAT I FEARED THE ENGINE WOULD BLOW UP. I PULLED MY TRUCK INTO A BOAT PARKING AREA ON THE ROADSIDE AND SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES WHILE PUTTING THE TRUCK INTO NEUTRAL AND TURNING THE ENGINE KEY TO OFF. THE ENGINE, BRAKES AND TRANSMISSION WERE ALL SMOKING FROM THE STRESS AND HIGH RPM'S. I HAD EXPERIENCED A SIMILAR UNCONTROLLABLE ACCELERATION ABOUT SIX MONTHS PRIOR (JAN. 2008) TO THIS ONE BUT WAS ABLE TO RECOVER QUICKLY BY HITTING THE BRAKES AND PRESUMED THAT IT WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL. TOYOTA REPLACED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL SENSOR ASSY BUT WOULD NOT SAY WHETHER THIS WAS THE CAUSE OF THE UNCONTROLLABLE ACCELERATION. VEHICLE FRONT END VIBRATES AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 60 AND 70 MPH. THERE IS SEVER STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION. THE FRONT TIRES ARE SHOWING WEAR THE OUT SIDE PORTION OF THE TIRE. THE OEM TIRES LASTED 15,000 MILES. I AM NOW ON A NEW SET OF TIRES THAT ARE EXHIBITING THE SAME TYPE OF UNEVEN TIRE WEAR. 1. TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER A MINIMUM OF FOUR TIMES TO REVIEW THE SITUATION. 2. HAD AN INDEPENDENT AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SHOP LOOK AT THE PROBLEM. 3. BOTH THE DEALER SHIP AND THE AUTOMOTIVE REPAIR SHOP AGREE THERE IS A VIBRATION ISSUE. 4. THE DEALER CLAIMS THE ISSUE IS WITH THE TIRE BALANCE. THEY HAVE "ROAD FORCE BALANCED THE TIRES". 5. AFTER PARKING THE TRUCK FOR ABOUT AN HOUR, I WENT BACK INTO THE TRUCK . AS I STARTED THE TRUCK THE 4-WHEEL LO LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASH WITH AN INDICATOR BEEP. THE PROBLEM WITH THIS IS THAT THE TRUCK WAS IN 2-WHEEL DRIVE AND NEVER ENGAGED IN ANY 4-WHEEL OPERATION. AT THE POINT OF THIS I TRIED TO PUT THE TRUCK IN REVERSE AND IT WAS NOT THERE IT WAS NEUTRAL, SO THEN I SHIFTED INTO DRIVE AND THAT WAS NEUTRAL ALSO, I REPEATED THIS 4 OR 5 TIMES IN DISBELIEF. AT THAT POINT I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND EXITED THE VEHICLE NOT REALIZING THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD HAVE NO PARK. HIS TEST ALSO SHOWED NO VEHICLE ERROR FOUND AND THAT NO RELATED CASES OF TRANSMISSIONS COMING OUT OF PARK. HE ALSO INDICATED THAT THIS WOULD ONLY BE POSSIBLE FROM OPERATOR ERROR. SO I NOW HAD TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR MY HOUSE GARAGE AND TRUCK REPAIR. AFTER PICKING UP THE VEHICLE I HAD A FRIEND ASK ME IF I LOOKED INTO THE NTSB.GOV WEBSITE, AND I SAID NO, WE THEN PROCEEDED TO THE SITE AND IT TOOK APPROX. 10 SECONDS TO SEE A RELATED OCCURRENCE WITH A 2007 TUNDRA WITH 16,000 MILES AND HAPPENED TWICE TO THE INDIVIDUAL. WHEN STOPPING FOR A TRAFFIC LIGHT/STOP SIGN FROM 40-50MPH, THE TRUCK STOPS NORMALLY. AFTER ABOUT 1.5 SECONDS WHEN AT A COMPLETE STOP, THE TRUCK GIVES A KICK. IT IS SEVERE ENOUGH THAT IT FEELS AS IF YOU HAD BEEN REAR ENDED. THE WHOLE TRUCK SHUTTERS. I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHO GIVES THE, "I CAN'T DUPLICATE IT" SPIELS. MY TRANNY FLUID WAS LOW DUE TO A LEAKING REAR SEAL SO THEY BLAMED IT ON THAT. THEY CHANGED THE ALUMINUM FRONT DRIVESHAFT AS THEY STATED IT CAUSED THE LEAK. PROBLEM NEVER WENT AWAY. DOES NOT HAPPEN AT ANY OTHER TIME. SUSPECT THE FIRST GEAR CLUTCH PACKS ARE RELEASING AND RE-ENGAGING. COULD BE MECHANICAL BUT IT IS ALSO A POSSIBLE PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION ECU. SIMILAR ISSUE WITH THE 2007-UP CAMRY WHICH WAS DETERMINED TO BE THE TORQUE CONVERTER. *TR
TRUCK HAS EXTREME VIBRATION, BOUNCE AND OVERALL SHAKE AT FREEWAY SPEEDS AS FELT THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE. THIS COMBINED WITH THE VERY LIGHT STEERING AND ACCELERATOR EFFORT LEADS TO A VERY UNSTABLE FEELING OF NOT BEING IN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. IT IS DIFFICULT TO MAINTAIN EVEN AND STEADY ACCELERATOR PRESSURE AND STEERING DIRECTION. DEALERSHIP HAS ROTATED AND BALANCED TIRES AND PERFORMED ALIGNMENT, BUT HAS MADE ZERO DIFFERENCE. DEALERSHIP HAS MADE 3 ATTEMPTS SO FAR TO FIX. I HAVE BEEN TOLD TOYOTA IS WORKING ON THE ISSUE. *TR
THE PHYSICAL PEDAL SEEMS TO STICK WHEN PRESSURE IS REDUCED (SLOWING OR DECELERATING) BUT POPS FREE ONCE MOST OF THE PRESSURE HAS BEEN RELEASED. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF. I DID NOT RETURN IT TO THE DEALER, INSTEAD I WAS ABLE TO REMOVE THE PEDAL ASSEMBLY AND APPLY SEVERAL DROPS OF WD40 TO THE PIVOT SHAFT AND BUSHING. AFTER WORKING THE PEDAL A FEW TIMES AND RE-INSTALLING BACK INTO THE VEHICLE, THE PEDAL SEEMED TO OPERATE NORMALLY FOR UP TO 4 TO 5 MONTHS BEFORE STARTING TO STICK ONCE MORE. NOTE: THE VEHICLE NEVER ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN NOR DID THE PEDAL NOT RETURN TO THE IDLE POSITION. *TR
