I THOUGHT MY FIRST NEW CAR PURCHASE (A 2000 JETTA VR6 GLS) WAS A LEMON. I, LIKE MANY OTHERS, HAVE EXPERIENCED SEVERAL PROBLEMS. PROBLEMS SUCH AS: - REAR CUP HOLDERS BROKEN - MIDDLE/REAR SEATBELT LOCKED, CANNOT BE USED - 02 SENSORS BOTH REPLACED SINCE MIL LIGHT KEPT ILLUMINATING - MAS SENSOR REPLACED (AND LATER RECALLED) - BOTH FRONT WINDOWS HAVE FALLEN TO THE "BLACK HOLE" (AND LATER RECALLED; INCLUDING A RECALL TO THE RECALL B/C THEY WENT FROM METAL CLIPS TO PLASTIC OR VICE VERSA) - PAINT PEELING FROM INSIDE DOOR HANDLES - ALARM SYSTEM FAULTY ON PASSENGER SIDE DOOR (DEALER TOLD ME THAT UNLESS THE CAR BEEPS AT ME, THE ALARM IS NOT SECURED. SO, I MUST LOCK THE DOOR. STAND BY FOR 15 SECONDS, LOCK THE DOOR AGAIN AND THIS TIME WHEN THE CAR BEEPS, THE PASSENGER DOOR IS SECURED. AND, FURTHERMORE, (THIS IS GOOD - KEEP READING) I WAS TOLD THAT IF I DRIVE TOO CLOSE TO A JEA BUS, THEIR BUS COMPUTER SYSTEMS ARE RUN ON THE SAME CHANNEL AS MY JETTA'S COMPUTER SYSTEM AND SOMETIMES BEING TOO CLOSE TO A JEA BUS WILL CAUSE MY CARS COMPUTER SYSTEM TO SCRAMBLE). COMPUTER SYSTEM CAN BE RESET, AND DID YOU KNOW THAT WHILE RESETTING, VW CAN MAKE YOUR CAR BEEP IN DIFFERENT PATTERNS? THAT'S PROBABLY A "FEATURE"! - CENTER CONSOLE/ARMREST LATCH BROKEN - LARGE SPRING SITS UNDERNEATH MY PASSENGER SIDE FRONT SEAT - SEAT BELT NO LONGER CLICK, INDICATING LOCKED IN POSITION (DEALER TOLD ME IT STILL WORKS. SO, NOW I HAVE TO PUSH IT DOWN AND THEN TUG ON IT, HOPING THAT IT REALLY IS LOCKED -- IF NOT, I MAY FLY OUT THAT RECALLED WINDOW.) - CHILD RESTRAIN SEAT LOCKS RECALLED - TRUNK LOCK WOULDN'T STAY LATCHED - FRONT FENDER SEPARATING FROM BODY OF CAR - GRINDS GOING INTO SECOND GEAR (MANUAL TRANSMISSION) - WHEN CAR IS PUT INTO 1ST GEAR, IT WAITS A FEW SECOND BEFORE IT GETS ENOUGH POWER TO FULLY ACCELERATE - BRAKE DUST COVERS ALLOY WHEEL, IN JUST HOURS OF CLEANING DRIVERS WANTED...BUT THEY'RE ALL IN THE DEALER WAITING ROOM! *AK
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AND NO WARNING THE VEHICLE WILL STALL ,AND IT WILL BE HARD FOR THE CONSUMER TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. DEALER NOTIFIED.*AK
PROBLEMS WITH ACCELERATION ON MY 2000 VW TDI WHICH HAVE BECOME INCREASINGLY HAZARDOUS. VEHICLE ACCELERATES WHEN IT CHOOSES TO DO SO. CONDITION IS ONGOING. WILL NOT SPEED UP OFF EXIT RAMPS NOR WHEN GOING UPHILL. SOURCE OF ROAD RAGE AT THIS POINT. BRAKES (REAR) DISINTEGRATED BEFORE REACHING 40,000 MILES. NOT PLEASED WITH THIS CAR'S PERFORMANCE AND IT APPEARS TO BE DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. SPOKE WITH SOMEONE ELSE HAVING THE SAME MODEL AND YEAR WHO HAD THE SAME SYMPTOMS. REPORTEDLY IT IS SOME SORT OF AIR FLOW DEFECT. WANT TO KNOW IF THIS IS COVERED UNDER THE MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY AND WHY THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL.
I HAVE A 2000 JETTA AND ITS A GOOD CAR BUT IT HAS PROBLEMS LIKE OTHER JETTA OWNERS THAT I HAVE TALKED TO. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A SHOP AND ASKED THEM ABOUT MY PROBLEM AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE KINDS OF JETTAS. THE COMPLAINT IS WHEN I CHANGE THE OIL OR HAVE A GOOD AMOUT OF OIL IN THE ENGINE IT GETS EATEN AT A QUICKER RATE THAN IT SHOULD. IT TAKES LIKE 2-3 DAYS THEN I HAVE TO REPLACE A QUART OF OIL OR MORE TO MAKE IT A GOOD LEVEL. THE AMOUNT OF OIL BEING CONSUMED IS NOT GOOD FOR THE ENGINE OR FOR THE EVIRONMENT. *AK
CONSUMER CONCERNED WITH ENGINE AND WHEEL BEARING ISSUES. WANTS TO KNOW WHO IS GOING TO REIMBURSE FOR REPAIRS. OXYGEN SENSOR HAD TO BE REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES. THE DRIVER SIDE INNER DOOR HANDLE WAS DIFFICULT TO OPERATE. THE LEFT SIDE AXLE SHAFT WAS REPLACED BECAUSE IT WAS MAKING A WHINING NOISE. WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE STALLED. IT WAS LATER DETERMINED THAT A SMALL RODENT HAD BUILT A NEST WHICH CLOGGED THE AIR BOX. THE VEHICLE STALLED AGAIN AND THIS TIME THEY REPLACE THE MAF SENSOR. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS INOPERATIVE. *NM
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION (2.5 QUARTS IN 300 MILES). *NLM
2000 JETTA - VIN [XXX] WHEN REPLACING MY BRAKE DISC PADS I NOTED THAT THE FRONT DISCS PADS ARE IN SHOW ROOM QUANTITY. IT APPEARS THAT ONLY THE REAR BRAKES ARE WORKING. TO HAVE 40000 MILES ON A CAR AND HAVE VIRTUALLY NO WEAR ON THE FRONT DISC PADS GIVES ME CAUSE FOR CONCERN. WHAT IS THE BRAKE DESIGN BASIS FOR THE 2000 JETTA? IS THE OPERATION OF ONLY THE REAR BRAKES A SAFETY CONCERN? CAN THE 2000 JETTA MEET THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION (NHTSA) STANDARDS FOR ALLOWABLE STOPPING DISTANCE WITH ONLY REAR DISC BRAKE OPERATION? VW INTERNATIONAL RESPONDED BY PHONE CALL NOTING THAT THEY WERE NOT CONCERNED IF THE FRONT WHEEL BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING. OUR FAMILY PURCHASED TWO 2000 JETTA'S AT THE SAME TIME. THE SECOND JETTA HAD THE REAR BRAKES REPLACED AT 30000 MILES AT DEALER COST. THEY CALLED IT PREMATURE WEAR. ALSO AT 40000 MILES THE SECOND JETTA FRONT BRAKES HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER CALLED THIS NORMAL WEAR. I'M NOT SURE WHAT IS CONSIDERED NORMAL BASED ON WHAT VW SAYS. WHENEVER YOU USE THE WINDSHIELD WASHER, SOME OF THE FLUID GETS INTO THE VENT AND YOU CAN SMELL IT IN THE CABIN AND EVEN SOMETIMES TASTE IT AS YOU ARE DRIVING. I BELIEVE WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID IS TOXIC. I HAVE TWO LATE MODEL VOLKSWAGENS, THEY BOTH DO THIS EVERYTIME. I'VE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS WITH ANY OTHER CAR I'VE DRIVEN BEFORE.
A STRONG SMELL OF ANTI FREEZE CAN BE SMELLED INSIDE HE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED. *NLM
MY WIFE AND I BOUGHT A 2000 JETTA TDI WITH A DEFECTIVE MASS AIR SENSOR, I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT ENGINE OIL VAPOR LEAKS DOWN THE AIR INTAKE AND CREATES A OIL FILM OVER SENSOR WHICH RENDERS IT INOP. WITH IT NOT WORKING THE CAR ACCELERATES VERY SLOWLY AND HAS VERY LITTLE POWER. MY MECHANIC SAID A REPLACEMENT IS $274.00 FOR THIS ITEM AND THERE IS NO GUARANTEE IT WONT HAPPEN AGAIN AFTER BUYING THE NEW PART. I FIND THIS PROBLEM UNACCEPTABLE AND FIGURE THE ENGINEER THAT DESIGNED THIS PART MUST HAVE GOT A HUGE BONUS FOR THIS RECURRING PROBLEM.*AK
THE COIL HAD STARTED GOING FAULTY ABOUT 1 YEAR PRIOR. DUE TO MOISTURE IN THE COIL, THE CAR WAS BARELY RUNNING -- IT BACK FIRED, AND WAS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO GET IT ROLLING UP A HILL, ALMOST CAUSING ME TO ROLL INTO A CAR BEHIND ME AT A STOP SIGN. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT REPLACED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY, BUT IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED BY THE RECALL ON ALL THE OTHER COILS -- THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS OF 2000 MODELS WITH THE VR6 ENGINE HAVING THE SAME COIL FAILURE. *JB
THE BRAKES LOCKED UP CAUSING EXTEND STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALER NOTIFIED. *NLM
MY VEHICLE IS A TDI DIESEL -COMPUTER/ENGINE - ENGINE DIAGNOSIS LIGHT HAS COME ON - DIAGNOSIS ($85.00) GATE ON TURBO CHARGER DOES NOT OPERATE PROPERLY. WAS TOLD COULD DRIVE VEHICLE BUT PERFORMANCE MAY DETERIORATE. ENGINE LIGHT STILL COMES ON OCAAISIONALY. REAR BRAKES SEIZED AND WORE COMPLETELY OUT - DEALER REFUSED ANY WARRANTY - WROTE V/W CUSTOMER SERVICE - THEY REFUNDED ABOUT 90% OF MY COST
WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE BRAKES FAILED COMPLETELY. NO IMPACT REPORTED. *AK
I COMPLAINED TO THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT SMELLING GASOLINE, TEMPERATURE LIGHT, AND ENGINE LIGHT KEPT COMING ON. THEY TOLD ME A VALVE ON THE FILLER TUBE OF THE GAS TANK WAS BROKEN AND I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE GAS TANK. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE ANTIFREEZE SYSTEM AND A "FLANGE" WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. *NLM
VEHICLE STALLS SUDDENLY AND THE POWER STEERING LOCKS UP. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. PH
THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SENSOR FAIL DUE TO DEFECT. ONCE THE WARRENTY IS OUT AT 28,000 MILES, CAR BEGIN TO FALL APART. I HAVE TO REPLACE THE CANISTER, NEW BRAKE SYSTEM, THE O2 SENSORS AND OTHER MINOR FIXES. PLEASE CHECK IF VW KNOW ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND STILL RELEASE THE NEW 2000 JETTA MODEL WITH ALL THE PROBLEM.
MY 2000 JETTA RAN DRY ON OIL AT 21,000 MILES BUT NOT UNDER 2YR BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY (6K MILES AFTER A FACTORY OIL CHANGE). THEY DID A CONSUMPTION TEST FOR 1500 MILES AND ASSURED US EVERYTHING WAS OK. IT WAS OK FOR 1500 MILES THEN IT WAS EMPTY AGAIN. THEY HAD TO CHANGE THE PISTON RINGS AND PRETENDED THAT THIS WAS A UNIQUE PROBLEM FOR OUR CAR. I HAVE SINCE READ OTHER REPORTS OF SIMILAR EXPERIENCES.*AK

WHILE DRIVING, MY 2000 JETTA GLS, VEHICLE HESITATES AND STALLS (ENGINE LIGHT ALSO WOULD COME ON AT TIMES). ON SIX OCCASIONS TO SERVICE, VW CLAIMED THAT NOTHING COULD BE FOUND. THE SEVENTH TIME, CONVENIENTLY AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRATION, THEY FOUND A BAD IGNITION COIL...WHICH OBVIOUSLY, I HAD TO PAY FOR. SPEAKING TO FOUR ACQUANTAINCES THAT HAD SAME VEHICLE, ALL REPORTED SIMILAR ISSUES WITH THE HESITATION AND STALLING. THE KICKER CAME FROM MY FRIEND WHO RECEIVED A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE (IGNITION COIL RECALL) FOR HIS 1.8T JETTA. A CALL TO VW (1800-822-8987) TO INQUIRE ABOUT REIMBURSEMENT FOR MY EXPENSES REVEALED THAT MY JETTA VIN DID NOT MATCH THE RECALLED VIN'S!!! HOW CAN A PART THAT HAS BEEN RECALLED NOT BE COVERED FOR MY VEHICLE THAT HAS THE SAME PART? THIS IS ABSOLUTELY PREPOSTEROUS. OBVIOUSLY, THERE ARE SIGNIFICANT OWNERS OUT THERE THAT ARE BEING TALKED INTO UNNECESSARY REPAIRS AND SIDETRACKED FROM THE REAL ISSUE AND ARE NOT AWARE OF THE RECALLS OR SIMPLY DO NOT FILE COMPLAINTS. A LITTLE BIT OF INFO...TO TEST FOR THE PROBLEM, RUN YOUR VEHICLE WITH LESS THAN 1/4 TANK OF GAS (ONE OR TWO GALLONS WILL REVEAL THE PROBLEM), AND WATCH WHAT HAPPENS!!! SINCE THE IGNITION COIL WAS REPLACED, NO PROBLEMS...HMMMMMM! I URGE ALL TO CALL VW AND FILE COMPLAINTS WITH AAA AND NHTSA IF YOU HAVE BEEN DUPED. EVENTUALLY, THE TRUTH WILL WIN.*AK
WHILE PARKING THE VEHICLE CONSUMER TURN OFF THE ELECTRICAL IGNITION SWITCH, TOOK THE KEY AND VEHICLE WAS STILL RUNNING. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION. TS
VEHICLE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM FAILED WHILE DRIVING. CAUSING THE VEHICLE AUTOMATIC DOOR LOCK,TURN SIGNALS AND FACTORY INSTALLED ALARM SYSTEM TO BE INOPERATIVE. WIRING IN THE TURN SIGNAL LEVER WAS SHORTED.
BRAKE PADS WENT CALLIPERS WENT AND ROTTERS WENT WITH BRAKES. VW USED THE WRONG CALLIPERS FOR THE CAR. AC WENT DID NOT GO COLD. STARTER WENT HAD TO REPLACE WITH NEW ONE THAT WAS THE OTHER. PAINT STARING CHIPPING PART OF THE COST WAS A KEY SCRATCH. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON HAD TO REPLACE MASSIVE AIR FLOW METER.
CONSUMER STATES THAT WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED THE ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND WILL STAY ON THE REMAINDER OF THE TIME THE VEHICLE IS IN MOVEMENT. CONSUMER REPLACE NUMEROUS OF TIME. DEALER NOTIFIED. MR
BRAKE ASSEMBLY SWITCH WAS FAULTY WHICH DOES NOT ALLOW THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION TO BE SWITCHED OUT OF PARK. COST TO REPAIR APPROXIMATELY $150.00. I WOULD LIKE TO REGISTER A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE COIL PACK FAILURE ON MY 2000 VW JETTA - THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT VW OF AMERICA REFUSES TO ADDRESS. THIS COIL PACK FAILS AND CAUSES IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER IN THE ENGINE - I WAS DRIVING AND LOST POWER IN 2 OF THE 4 CYLINDERS. VW DID NOT COVER MY REPLACEMENT. THIS IS HAPPENING ON NUMEROUS VWS. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL - IT IS A DEFECT.

NO ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND I LOST POWER UP HILL ALL OF A SUDDEN AND WAS ALMOST HIT BY A CAR AND A SEMI IN BACK OF ME. I TOOK IT TO DICK HANNA IN VANC. WA AND THEY LOOKED AT IT. THEY THOUGHT IT WAS THE MASS AIR SENSOR . I CALLED VOLKSWAGON AND THEY ONLY WOULD OFFER TO PAY 50/50 ON THE JOB. BUT THIS IS AFTER I JUST PAID 1300.00 FOR TH E 40,000 MILE CHECK UP. THEN I REFUSED I SAID I WANTED TO GO TO ANOTHER DEALER AND HAVE IT LOOKED AT. VOLKSWAGON THEN SAID THAT THEY MIGHT NOT PAY ANYTHING ON IT IF I DID GO TO ARMSTRONG,(WHERE I ORIGINALLY BOUGHT THE CAR) WHEN I ASKED THEM WHY THEY ARE WILLING TO PAY 100% TO OTHERS WITH THIS PROBLEM THEY SAID THEY REVIEW THESE CASES (CASE BY CASE). WHEN ASKED WHY WOULD THEY NOT OFFER 50/50 IF I WENT TO ARMSTRONG THEY GOT REALLY NASTY ON THE PHONE. I THINK THAT VOLKSWAGON NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED, THERE SOUNDS LIKE THERE IS SOMETHING ILLEGAL GOING ON. DT
POWER WINDOW REGULATOR ON DRIVERS WINDOW BROKE CAUSING THE WINDOW TO FALL TO THE BOTTOM OF THE DOOR. UNABLE TO RAISE WINDOW. I OWN TWO MODEL YEAR 2000 VW JETTAS AND THIS IS THE SECOND INCIDENCE OF POWER WINDOW REGULATOR FAILURE.*AK
I'VE BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP MORE THAN 10 TIMES FOR VARIOUS PROBLEMS, BUT THE WINDOWS FAILURE IS THE MOST SERIOUS ONE.CURRENTLY, REAR LEFT WINDOW STUCK IN UP POSITION.*AK
MY VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR FUEL ISSUES AT AN AUTHORIZED VW DEALERSHIP. SINCE EXPERIENCING THE PROBLEM, A NEW VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP HAS BEEN INVOLVED PRIMARILY BECAUSE OF THE DISTANCE OF THE TOW. THE ORIGINAL DEALERSHIP WHO MADE THE FUEL REPAIRS IS CURRENTLY UNCOOPERATIVE.*AK

I HAVE CALLED VW CUSTOMER CARE SEVERAL TIME TO TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM. THEY MAKE OVER $300.00 FOR EVERY BAD SENSOR. IN DOING MY HOMEWORK ON THIS PROBLEM, A PART DEALER OVER THE INTERNET TOLD ME THEY SELL 30 MAF SENSORS A WEEK. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM. IT NEEDS TO BE A RECALL. DT
WHEN RAISING THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW UP, GLASS DROPS INTO DOOR PANEL AND WILL NOT COME UP. MAKES LOUD GRINDING NOISE WHEN PRESSING BUTTON TO RAISE WINDOW. DEALERSHIP REPLACES WINDOW ASSEMBLY AND SAYS THEY "GOODWILL" IT TO ME WITH NO CHARGE - EVEN THOUGH THIS WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN CHARGED IN THE FIRST PLACE. DEALERSHIP DOES NOT HAVE PART IN STOCK AND I HAVE TO DRIVE WITH A TRASHBAG TAPED WHERE MY WINDOW SHOULD BE IN RAINY WEATHER DURING MY 30-MILE (ONE-WAY) ALL HIGHWAY COMMUTE TO AND FROM WORK. THE ONLY WINDOW I EVER OPERATE NOW IS MY DRIVER SIDE WINDOW AND ONLY AS NECESSARY. VERY COSTLY AND DANGEROUS WINDOW SITUATION.

WHEN OPENING THE R/F POWEER WINDOW THE WINDOW MADE A STRANGE SOUND AND THEN THE WINDOW FELL TO THE BOTTOM OF THE INSIDE OF THE DOOR AND WOULD NOT GO UP. CANNOT CLOSE THE WINDOW AND THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER. THE BUMPER DISLODGED FROM IT BRACE WHILE BACKING UP. THE BUMPER WAS AGAINST A CURB WHEN MOVED, NO ADDTIONAL WEIGHT WAS ADDED WHEN MOVING INTO OR OUT OF PARKING SPOT, BESIDES THE WEIGHT OF THE DRIVER. *AK

TURBO HAS BEEN HAVING PROBLEMS SINCE DEC 2001 - VOLKSW FAILED TO DIAGNOSE PROBLEM CORRECTLY AFTER $1100 WORTH OF REPAIRS. TURBO WENT OUT ON VEHICLE, CAUSING OIL TO NOT BE CIRCULATED THROUGH THE ENGINE, AND INSTEAD FLOWED STRAIGHT INTO THE EXHAUST. VOLKSWAGEN ARRANGED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE IN MY VEHICLE PER MY WARRANTY, BUT LATER CHANGED THEIR DIAGNOSIS AND ONLY REPLACED THE TURBO.*AK

FROM WHAT I HAVE SEEN AND HEARD, THIS IS A TOO FAMILIAR PROBLEM WITH LATE MODEL VOLKSWAGENS. THE WINDOW MADE A STRANGE CLICKING SOUND AND THEN THE WINDOW FELL ALL OF THE WAY INTO THE DOOR UNEXPECTEDLY. APPARENTLY VOLKSWAGEN IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND HAS RE-ENGINEERED THE PART. IF THIS IS THE CASE, WHY ARE THEY NOT REQUIRED TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR THIS ITEM AND REPAIR/REPLACE AT NO COST TO THE OWNER. I WOULD CONSIDER THIS TO BE A SAFETY CONCERN. ON 6/15/02 MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. DEALER DIAGNOSED AS P0411 VACUUM HOSE LEAK AND REPAIRED. LIGHT CAME BACK ON ON 7/8/02. DEALER DIAGOSED A MALFUNCTIONING RECIRCULATING VALVE TO TURBO CHARGER AND REPAIRED ON 7/23/02. LIGHT CAME BACK ON 7/24/02 AND REMAINED ON UNTIL 9/6/02 WHEN IT WENT OUT BY ITSELF. LIGHT CAME BACK ON 9/11/02 AND REMAINS ON. I AM VERY UNHAPPY WITH THIS PROBLEM AND WONDER IF THE REPAIRS I HAVE HAD MADE WERE NECESSARY. I WOULD LIKE THIS PROBLEM RESOLVED. AFTER REVIEWING THE COMPLAINTS ON THIS WEB-SITE, I BELIEVE PROBLEM IS RELATIVELY COMMON, AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS AN OBLIGATION TO SERVE THE CUSTOMER MORE HONESTLY. NLM
VEHICLE WAS MOVING AT APPROXIMATELY 30MPH WHEN I TRIED TO ROLL THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW DOWN. THERE WAS A CLICKING NOISE, FOLLOWED BY THE WINDOW DROPPING RAPIDLY INTO THE DOOR. IT WOULD NOT GO BACK UP. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THEY SEE THIS OFTEN, AND THAT THE REGULATOR CABLE WAS STRIPPED. THE COST OF REPAIR WAS $430, AND VW OF AMERICA REFUSES TO COVER THIS BECAUSE MY WARRANTY IS OVER. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH, I'VE FOUND THAT THERE ARE MANY CUSTOMERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR 2000 JETTA'S.*AK
BOTH FRONT WINDOWS ON MY JETTA FELL DOWN INTO THE DOOR WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. THE WINDOW WAS UP AND WITHOUT ME TOUCHING ANY CONTROLS IT JUST FELL INTO THE DOOR. BOTH FRONT DOORS FELL WITHIN 1 WEEK OF EACH OTHER. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THIS HAPPENING WHEN A FAMILY MEMBER IS TRAVELING THE ROADS OF THIS RURAL COMMUNITY. WE GET SNOW IN OCTOBER THAT LASTS THROUGH MAY. IF WE GET CAUGHT OUT IN A SNOW STORM AND THE WINDOWS FALL DOWN INSIDE THE DOORS WE ARE IN TROUBLE. I ARGUED THAT THIS WAS NOT NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR ON A VEHICLE. WINDOWS SHOULD NOT UNEXPECTANTLY FALL OUT OF ANY VEHICLE WITHOUT WARNING. I CALLED THE LITHIA DEALER TO GET MY CAR FIXED AND WAS TOLD IT WILL BE AWHILE AS THE REGULATOR PART IS ON BACK ORDER. HE TOLD ME THAT TJHERE WAS A BUNCH OF 2000 JETTA OWNERS WAITING FOR THE EXACT SAME SERVCIE. THIS POOR DESIGN IS GOING TO GET SOMEBODY KILLED. VW NEEDS TO DO A RECALL AND FIX THE REGULATOR NOT WITH ANOTHER REGULATOR JUST LIKE THE ONE THAT FAILS AFTER TWO YEARS BUT A NEW SET UP THAT PREVENTS THE WINDOW FROM SPORADICALLY FALLING INTO THE DOOR.*AK
I TRIED TO ROLL DOWN MY WINDOW AND IT GOT STUCK PART OF THE WAY DOWN AND WHEN I TRIED TO ROLL IT BACK UP, THERE WAS A LOUD CRACK AND THE WINDOW FELL DOWN IN THE DOOR. I TOOK IT TO A VW DEALER AND I WAS CHARGED $565 TO REPLACE THE MOTOR AND REGULATOR. THERE NEEDS THE BE A RE-CALL. THERE ARE TOO MANY COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS ONE ITEM.*AK
