THE CHANGE IN GEARS FEELS ROUGH. IT SEEMS AS IF THE GEARS ARE SKIPPING OR BEING FORCED. I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND I WENT TO ACCELERATE THE GAS PEDAL PRESSED DOWN BUT THE CAR DID NOT ACCELERATE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND STARTED FLASHING. WHEN ACCELERATING THE CARS FEELS AS IF IT IS STRUGGLING.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE ROAD LIKE 35 OR 40 MPH AND ALL THE SUDDEN THE PASSENGER'S AIRBAG EXPLODED,, THE ONE FROM THE SEAT AND THE CURTAIN AIRBAG ONE ... I ALMOST WENT DOWN OUT OF THE ROAD ... IT GOT ME BY SURPRISE
STARTER PROBLEM. WHEN STARTING THE CAR MOST TIMES WILL SCREECH REALLY LOUD. LED TO THE CONCLUSION IT IS THE STARTER FROM ONLINE FORUMS OF OWNERS OF SAME GENERATION JETTAS. SEEMS TO BE A PREMATURE WEAR ITEM. CAR HAS UNDER 130,000 MILES AND OTHER CARS OF SAME AGE AND MILEAGE DO NOT HAVE THIS ISSUE. FELL LIKE THERE IS A FAULT WITH THE STARTER.
CAR WILL STALL AT A 1/4 TANK OF GAS WHEN IN MOTION. IT WILL DO THIS AT ANY SPEED OR ON ANY ROAD GOING UPHILL OR DOWN HILL. HAVE PUT 3 NEW FUEL PUMPS IN CHANGED THE FUEL PUMP SOLENOID AND STILL HAVE THE PROBLEM. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR A YEAR NOW.
THE WELD HOLDING THE DRIVERS SEAT TO THE FLOOR BOARD BROKE OFF. THIS CAR HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND HAS VERY MINIMAL RUST.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED AND STALLED WITHOUT WARNING, THE PARKING BRAKE FAILED, AND THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR HAD ISSUES OPENING. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE LEAKED FLUID. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MAIN COOLANT FAN, ENGINE VALVE COVER GASKET, BOTH REAR SHOCK AND MOUNTS, BOTH FRONT STRUT MOUNTS, FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM BUSHING, AND BOTH OUTER TIE RODS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 137,354.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS MODULE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
MY ABS LIGHT HAS BEEN ON AND I DON'T KNOW HOW TO GET IT TO TURN OFF. MY TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT HAS BEEN ON AND DON'T KNOW HOW TO GET IT OFF. I HAVE BOUGHT A NEW COIL PACK AND SPARK PLUGS AND SPARK PLUG WIRES AND NOW MY CHECK ENGINE HAS CAME BACK ON.PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS CAR.THANKS.GOD BLESS U.
THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG ON MY 2001 VW JETTA DEPLOYED WHILE I WAS PARKING MY CAR AT WORK. AS I CAME TO A FULL STOP WHERE I WAS GOING TO PARK MY CAR I HEARD A LOUD BANG FROM INSIDE THE CAB OF MY JETTA. THE LOUD BANG DISTORTED MY THINKING PROCESS AS I WAS TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHERE THE LOUD NOISE CAME FROM. AS THE SMOKE FILLED MY CAR I STILL COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHAT JUST HAPPEN UNTIL I LOOKED AROUND INSIDE THE CAB OF MY CAR AND WITH THE SMOKE INSIDE THE CAB I WAS ABLE TO SEE A WHITE BAG STICKING OUT OF THE PASSENGER SEAT IN MY CAR, THIS IS WHEN I KNEW THAT THE AIR BAG ON THE PASSENGER SEAT HAD DEPLOYED. THERE WERE NO OTHER CARS NEAR ME, THERE WERE NO HEAVY WINDS BLOWING EARLY THAT MORNING, AND I DID NOT HIT ANY POTHOLES NOR DID I HIT ANY SIDE CURVES WHILE PARKING MY CAR AND THE AIR BAG STILL WENT OFF.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS AWAITING DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000.
THE CAR DIES WHILE DRIVING. IT HAS HAPPENED AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS BOTH ON THE FREEWAY AND ON THE STREETS. THE GAS PEDAL SUDDENLY STOPS WORKING, ENGINE SHUTS OFF. WHEN I PULL TO THE SIDE AND TURN THE IGNITION OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN, THE CAR STARTS WORKING AGAIN. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE AUTO SHOP, BUT THE ISSUE WASN'T IDENTIFIED AFTER THE INSPECTION, TEST DRIVING AND CODE READING.
THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON AND THE BRAKES SOFT AS A MARSHMALLOW NOT WARNING NOTICE GOT STOPPED AND THERE WAS A HISSING NOISE BUT NO BRAKE FLUID ON ANY OF THE BRAKES...... I'VE ALSO BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH AFTER REPLACING THE WATER PUMP IT KEEPING FLUID IN IT ALSO USING THE GEICO DISCOUNT EQUIPMENT TO SEE HOW MY DRIVING IS THE ENGINE LIGHT AND THE ONE ABOVE THAT THE LOOKS LIKE A TRIANGLE.... DID THE DIAGNOSTIC CAME UP WITH A 1000 CODE AND ONE OTHER THE DEAL DIDN'T FIND THE 1000 CODE BUT RESET WITH NO LUCK TURNING THEM OFF AFTER SERVICE. *TR
I WAS DRIVING TO MY PARENTS HOUSE ON CHRISTMAS MORNING WITH FOUR OTHER PASSENGERS WHEN I HIT A POT HOLE GOING LESS THAN 25 MPH WHEN MY PASSENGER SIDE CURTAIN AND PASSENGER THORAX AIRBAG DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING SHUTTING OFF MY ENGINE AND FILLING MY CAR WITH SMOKE. THERE WAS NO VISIBLE EXTERIOR DAMAGE TO THE BODY, SUSPENSION, OR TIRE OF MY VEHICLE AND NOT NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCE IN HANDLING AFTER THE INCIDENT. TWO OF MY PASSENGERS SUSTAINED BRUISES AND SCRAPES TO THEIR ARMS, SHOULDERS, NECK, AND RIBS, AS WELL AS TEMPORARY HEARING IMPAIRMENT ONE OF THOSE PASSENGERS BEING A CHILD. CURRENTLY THERE IS A HOLE IN MY PASSENGER SEAT WHERE THE AIRBAG RIPPED THROUGH THE UPHOLSTERY AND DAMAGE TO MY HEADLINER. THE AIRBAGS' DEPLOYMENT WAS UNWARRANTED AND HAS ROBBED ME OF MY PIECE OF MIND WHILE DRIVING. I FLINCH EVERY TIME I AM UNABLE TO AVOID A ROAD IMPERFECTION FOR FEAR THAT THIS MIGHT HAPPEN AGAIN TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE OF MY CAR. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE IT HAPPENS AGAIN TO SOMEONE GOING FASTER THAN I WAS--THAT SITUATION COULD END TRAGICALLY. *TR

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 80 MPH, THE REAR DRIVER SIDE TIRE SUDDENLY HAD A BLOW OUT. THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A GUARD RAIL. THE TIRE WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN, TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE, AND VEHICLE FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN. JCC

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 103,000.
I WAS STOPPED AT A STOP SIGN. WHILE PREPARING TO DRIVE OFF. I WAS STRUCK IN THE BACK OF THE CAR. I LOST CONSCIOUSNESS MOMENTARILY. AN AMBULANCE WAS CALLED. I WAS PUT ON A STRETCHER AND TRANSPORTED TO THE HOSPITAL FOR 8 HOURS. THE AIRBAG OF THE VEHICLE DID NOT DEPLOY. SOME TIME AFTER THE ACCIDENT I NOTICED THE AIRBAG LIGHT WAS ON. VOLKSWAGEN INSPECTED THE CAR AND DETERMINED THAT THE AIRBAG WAS FAULTY IN THE VEHICLE

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING 25 MPH, THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR INDICATOR SOUNDED THROUGHOUT THE VEHICLE AND THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR AJAR WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT WHEN ACTIVATING THE HEADLIGHTS THERE WOULD BE AN ABNORMAL NOISE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DOOR LATCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 130,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 135,000.
BEWARE OF THIS USED CAR - IT NEEDS SERIOUS MECHANICAL WORK. I TEST DROVE IT AND REALIZED THAT THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS, THE TIMING CHAIN RATTLES, AND THE A/C DID NOT WORK. *TR
RAINING NOT HARD . WIPERS SLOW DOWN . COMPLETE STOP OF WIPER ACTION. NO PRIOR NOTICE OF BAD OPERATION FIRST THOUGHT WAS FUSE. WAS NOT THE FUSE. *TR
ON MY WAY TO AN APPOINTMENT 1 DAY LAST YR, I HAD MY AIR CONDITIONER ON THEN MY CAR STARTS OVERHEATING. I WAS PANICKING, I HAD NO IDEA WHAT TO DO, ESPECIALLY SINCE THIS WAS MY FIRST CAR. I BARELY GOT HER IN 2011 AND I'VE HAD ENDLESS PROBLEMS WITH HER. WHEN SHE RUNS GOOD, SHE RUNS GREAT BUT OHH WHEN SHE HAS PROBLEMS, SHE BRINGS YOU ABSOLUTE HELL. IT BEGAN AS A SLOW LEAK & ODDLY ENOUGH ONLY LEAKING SOMETIMES. WE TOOK MY JETTA TO A SHOP IN VALENCIA AND GOT THE HOSES AND THERMOSTAT REPLACED. WHATEVER REASON THE MECHANICS DID NOT NOTICE IT, OR NOTICED IT & WERE TRYING TO SQUEEZE MORE MONEY OUT OF ME WHILE THEY DID A TEMPORARY FIX. BARELY THIS YEAR I DISCOVERED THANKS TO MY HANDY MECHANICS SAVVY BOYFRIEND - THAT IT WAS MY WATER PUMP WHICH IS DEFECTIVE. 2 INJURIES OCCURRED TO MY BOYFRIEND THANKS TO THIS OVERHEATING PROBLEM. DRIVING ON THE FWY WE STOPPED TO PUT WATER (RELIGIOUSLY CARRYING 4 GALLONS OF WATER IN THE CAR AT ALL TIMES) IN 100* WEATHER W/ NO A/C & ME BEING SEVERELY HEAT INTOLERANT, MY BOYFRIEND TOOK OFF THE CAP TO THE RADIATOR. THAT'S WHEN BOILING HOT WATER EXPLODED ALL OVER HIM. LUCKILY I'M FIRST AID CERTIFIED AND HAD MY FIRST AID KIT HANDY & TENDED TO HIM. HE BEGAN TO BLISTER INSTANTANEOUSLY. THAT SAME INCIDENT OCCURRED AGAIN BUT WITH MY TEMP. GAUGE READING AT REGULAR TEMP. STILL EXPLODING ALL OVER HIM. I WAS LEFT TRAUMATIZED SEEING MY BOYFRIEND GET BURNT AND SO SEVERELY IN PAIN, AS WELL AS MY OWN EXPERIENCE WHEN I WAS ALONE: MY CAR SHUT OFF ON ME AT A RED LIGHT, WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN THE TRAFFIC COMING FROM BEHIND ME HAD A SLOW REFLEX TO MY EMERGENCY FLASHERS: I ALMOST GOT HIT 5 TIMES: LUCKY FOR ME, MY HORN WORKS. WELL, NOW THE WATER LEAKS OUT JUST AS QUICKLY AS WE POUR IT IN. MY CAR IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD AND SHE'S ALL I HAVE. I'M JOBLESS & HOMELESS RIGHT NOW & IF I WERE TO LOSE MY CAR, I'D BE LEFT COMPLETELY HOPELESS HAVING TO START FROM SCRATCH AGAIN. *TR

CAR IS PARKED AND WHEN IT RAINS WATER LEAKS IN FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE. NO ACCIDENTS AND CLEANED ALL DRAINS AND PIPES. I REMEMBER A LETTER ABOUT A YEAR OR TWO AGO REGARDING THIS FROM VW BUT SINCE MY CAR DID NOT LEAKED I WAS NOT WORRIED, NOW ITS A PUDDLE OF WATER. WHAT CAN I DO. *TR
I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED IN 2003 AND HAD PROBLEMS WITH IT SINCE. ESC LIGHT COMES ON ALL THE TIME. REPLACED IGNITION COILS, MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR, OXYGEN SENSOR, AND SPARK PLUGS MULTIPLES TIMES TO TRY AND FIX THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THAT KEEPS COMING BACK ON. IT KEEPS SPITTING OUT RANDOM CYLINDER MISFIRE CODES. PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW BROKE. THE ARM REST HINGE BROKE. THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT HINGE BROKE. BRAKE LIGHTS NEED REPLACING CONSTANTLY. WATER PUMP BROKE WHILE DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE OF FREEWAY AND THE TEMPERATURE GAUGE SHOT THROUGH THE ROOF. A RANDOM TUBE/HOSE IN THE ENGINE BROKE. TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, COULD NOT SHIFT FROM PARK TO DRIVE. INTERIOR CABIN SMELLS LIKE CRAYON. VERY ROUGH IDLE, NEED TO WARM UP THE CAR FOR AT LEAST 5 MINS EVERY MORNING OR ELSE THE CAR WILL STALL. I NOTICED IF YOU DO NOT WARM THE CAR LONG ENOUGH, YOU HAVE TO PRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL VERY HARD TO GET IT TO STOP. I CAN COPE WITH ALL THE ABOVE ISSUES BUT I CANNOT TOLERATE THE CAR RANDOMLY STALLING/ENGINE DYING WHILE DRIVING AROUND THE CITY. LATELY THE CAR IS MAKING WEIRD NOISES LIKE IT RAN OVER A POTHOLE. I GAVE AWAY THE CAR AND WILL NEVER AGAIN OWN ANY CARS MADE FROM VOLKSWAGEN. *TR
I DROVE THROUGH LITTLE STAGNANT WATER ABOUT 6 TO 8 INCHES ON PERIMETER RD. WEST. AFTER DRIVING THROUGH THE WATER, THE CAR BEGAN RUNNING AND IDLING ROUGHLY. THE CAR EVENTUALLY STALLED ON PERIMETER RD. WEST, IMMEDIATELY SOUTH OF THE BLUE PLAINS TUNNEL SITE. A PASSING DRIVER HONKED AND YELLED TO GET OUT OF THE CAR BECAUSE IT WAS ON FIRE. WE WITNESSED FLAMES COMING FROM THE UNDERSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
MY CAR SMELLS LIKE GAS SO BAD THAT I GET A HEADACHE. DEALERSHIP SAYS THEY DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS WRONG. NO INCIDENT BUT I KNOW MOST VOLKSWAGEN VEHICLES HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THE GAS SMELL MUST BE TOXIC, SO THIS SEEMS LIKE A SAFETY PROBLEM. *TR
DEBRIS FROM GASKETS IN AIR VENTILATION SYSTEM EXITS THE AIR VENTS AND HITS THE OCCUPANTS. THE DEBRIS, ON OCCASION, HIT THE DRIVER IN THE EYE CAUSING TEMPORARY LOSS OF VISION. THE DEBRIS FLYING OUT INTO THE FACE OF THE DRIVER OR OTHER VEHICLE OCCUPANT IS ALWAYS A DISTRACTION TO DRIVER ATTENTION TO DRIVING EVEN WHEN DIRECT CONTACT WITH THE EYE(S) DOES NOT OCCUR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD, THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR WAS THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,345.
MY JETTA WILL NOT START AFTER NO SIGNS OF AN ISSUE. I'VE HAD IT TOWED TWICE BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE TO PEP BOYS (PER WARRANTY COMPANY) AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT HOME BUT THAT IS IT. THEY TOLD ME THAT IT SEEMED AS IF SOMETHING WAS DRAINING THE BATTERY. I'VE TAKEN THE BATTERY TO PLACE OF PURCHASE AND RESULTS WERE GOOD AND THE BATTERY IS FINE. PEP BOYS RECOMMENDS I TAKE CAR TO VW DEALER. THIS IS TOUGH ON MY FAMILY AND I BECAUSE THIS IS OUR ONLY CAR AND NO ONE CAN TELL US THE REASON WHY OUR CAR DOESN'T WORK. CAR WAS PURCHASED 7/24/2010. *TR
LOCK UNIT FOR CENTRAL LOCKING DRIVERS SIDE FRONT VW PART F220 SWITCHES INDICATING A "DOOR OPEN" STATUS FAIL ON A REGULAR BASIS ON UNITS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN 1999 AND 2001. VW REDESIGNED THE PART IN 2002, BUT OFFERED NO CORRECTIVE ACTION FOR VEHICLES WITH THE FLAWED DESIGN. WHEN THE SWITCH IS INOPERABLE, THE LAMP ON THE DOOR DOES NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE DOOR IS OPENED, MAKING IT INVISIBLE TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. IN ADDITION, THE DOME LIGHT DOES NOT ILLUMINATE WHEN THE DOOR IS OPENED. FINALLY, SINCE THE CAR DOES NOT SENSE THAT THE DOOR IS OPENED, IT WILL RE-LOCK ITSELF AFTER 30 SECONDS, POTENTIALLY STRANDING A DRIVER OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE.
WHILE DRIVING AT A STEADY SPEED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WILL DEPRESS BY ITSELF MAKING THE VEHICLE ACCELERATE. THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED (SO FAR). THIS STARTED HAPPENING ABOUT A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO. IT'S DONE IT MAYBE 4 OR 5 TIMES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 13 MPH THE ABS LIGHT AND THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE CONTROL MODULE FOR THE ANTI LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 02V031000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC: ANTI LOCK) WAS RELATED; HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. A COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000. UPDATED 02/14/11 *BF UPDATED 02/22/11
MY VW DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW FELL INTO THE DOOR AS I WAS DRIVING ALONG THE HIGHWAY LAST YEAR. BROUGHT IT IN TO THE BODY SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME THEY FIX TONS OF THIS PROBLEM AS THE PLASTIC CLIPS THAT HOLD THE WINDOW ARE TOO FRAGILE. NOW...SEVERAL MONTHS LATER MY PASSENGER DOOR IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE COST OF THE REGULATOR TO FIX IT (AS PARTS ARE NOT SOLD SEPARATLY) HAS NOW GONE UP IN COST $50. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MPH MY CAR LOST ALL POWER AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF. I WAS ALMOST KILLED BY HIGHWAY TRAFFIC. I HAD REPEATEDLY TAKEN MY CAR TO THE DEALER FOR A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THAT KEPT COMING ON MORE THAN 8 TIMES. FINALLY MY WARRANTY EXPIRED AND THE VW DEALER TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM. I WAS REPEATEDLY CHARGED FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM AND EVEN HAD THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON AS I DROVE IT AWAY FROM THE DEALER WITHIN 5 MINUTES AFTER HAVING IT "FIXED" AND CHARGED AGAIN WITHOUT THEM HONORING THEIR PREVIOUS WORK. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR. *TR
THE VW JETTA VR6 2001 THAT I PURCHASED LAST YEAR FOR $7,000 (FINANCING THROUGH MY CREDIT UNION) IS A LEMON. I HAVE HAD IT LESS THAN A YEAR AND ALREADY SPENT $2000 ON MINOR REPAIRS AND I ESTIMATE THAT RIGHT NOW IT NEEDS ABOUT $4000 MORE IN THE NEXT FEW MONTHS. I BELIEVE THAT SUNDANCE IMPROPERLY SOLD THIS CAR, KNOWING THAT A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF THINGS ARE WRONG WITH IT. I HAD A GARAGE WITH WHICH THEY ARE AFFILIATED LOOK AT IT AND COMPLETELY MISREPRESENTED THE SHAPE OF THE CAR. SINCE ACQUIRING IT I HAVE BEEN PLAGUED WITH DIFFICULTIES WITH IT, FROM HEAD LIGHTS MYSTERIOUSLY GOING OUT, TO THE WATER PUMP FAILING, TO THE SERPENTINE COIL FAILING, NOW TO THE AIR COMPRESSOR FAILING, AS WELL AS THE COMPUTER TO THE A/C, AND TODAY IT IS THE EPC CODE (WHICH I BELIEVE HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH EITHER THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER, OR COMPUTER - BUT THE THING IS LOSING POWER AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS DON'T WORK WHICH IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD), NOT TO MENTION THE TRANSMISSION SLIPS AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED. HAVING BEEN PLAGUED WITH THESE ISSUES, I HAVE COME TO FIND OUT THAT THERE ARE MANY OTHER VW JETTA VR6 2001 OWNERS WHO ARE ADAMANT THAT THIS CAR IS A MANUFACTURED LEMON. VW NEEDS TO BE IN SOME WAY HELD ACCOUNTABLE - ALL OF US HAVE HAD NIGHTMARISH LIVES AND ARE PAYING FOR THE DEFECTS EVERY DAY. *TR

THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER AND THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 150,000.
I HAVE MY CAR AT SCHOOL IN SOUTH BEND INDIANA AND IT IS STORED OUTSIDE. EARLY THIS WINTER THE CAR STARTED TO IDLE VERY ROUGH. IF I TRIED TO GO TOO QUICKLY AFTER TURNING THE CAR ON I WOULD GET A FLASHING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT THAT READ FOR A RANDOM CYLINDER MISFIRE WHEN THE CODE WAS PULLED. THIS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES. SO I HAD TO LET THE ENGINE IDLE FOR AT LEAST 10 MINUTES SO THAT IT COULD TRY AND WARM UP BEFORE I COULD GO ANYWHERE. IN MID FEBRUARY I TURNED THE CAR ON IN THE AFTERNOON AND I NOTICED IT WAS IDLING VERY ROUGH. SO I CRACKED THE HOOD AND THERE I SAW SPARKS JUMPING FROM THE BEGINNING OF THE SPARK PLUG WIRES TO THE ENGINE BLOCK. A MECHANIC CONFIRMED WHAT I SUSPECTED, THAT THE COIL PACK WAS CRACKED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I DID AN ONLINE SEARCH AND FOUND THAT VW HAD ISSUED A RECALL FOR VR6S THAT HAD PROBLEMS WITH CRACKED COIL PACKS. HOWEVER, WHEN I CALLED THEM ABOUT IT I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. IT WAS NOT THE RIGHT ENGINE MODEL BECAUSE THEY CHANGED ENGINE MODELS HALF WAY THROUGH 2001 AND MY CAR WAS THE OLD MODEL. DESPITE THE FACT THAT I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM WITH A CRACKING COIL PACK IN A CAR OF THE RIGHT MODEL FROM THE SAME YEAR THEY WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING. THESE COIL PACKS HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM FOR MANY VR6 OWNERS AS EVIDENCE FROM THE EXTENSIVE ONLINE FORUMS. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW MY CAR WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND DOCUMENTED HISTORY AS THE 2003 RECALL ISN'T ALSO COVERED IN THE RECALL. I HAVE NOT HAD THE COIL PACK REPAIRED YET BECAUSE IT COSTS 500 DOLLARS AND I DON'T HAVE THAT TO SPEND RIGHT KNOW. *TR

2001 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA WOLFSBURG EDITION: CYLINDER 3 MISFIRED DUE TO A FAULTY COILPACK. COILPACK WAS REPLACED, HOWEVER CYLINDERS 2 AND 4 MISFIRE. WHEN THE MECHANIC TESTED THE COILPACKS, THEY WERE WORKING PROPERLY. PRESENTLY, RANDOM CYLINDERS CONTINUE TO MISFIRE EVEN THOUGH BRAND NEW COIL PACKS ARE INSTALLED. THIS CAUSES MY VEHICLE TO LOSE POWER AND IDLE VERY ROUGH. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CONTINUES TO FLASH WHICH IS CAUSING DAMAGE TO MY BRAND NEW CAT CONVERTER. *TR
OUR 2001 VW JETTA GLS SPUTTERS INTERMITTENTLY AND LOOSES ACCELERATION POWER AT IN OPPORTUNE TIMES. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE IGNITION COIL, AND THAT VW IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM AND ARE RECALLING CERTAIN MODELS. OURS HAS NOT HAD THE RECALL AS OF 11/1/09. WHEN THIS PROBLEM OCCURS, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT BLINKS. I HAVE FOUND THAT PULLING OVER, SHUTTING THE ENGINE OFF AND REMOVING THE KEY FOR 30 SECONDS AND THEN RE-STARTING SOLVES THE PROBLEM. WHEN THE DEALER PULLED THE CHECK ENGINE CODES, THERE WERE 2. ONE FOR THE MISFIRE AND A "CATALYST EFFICIENCY BELOW THRESHOLD. THE DEALER SAID THE LATTER IS DUE TO THE MISFIRE AND IN TIME THE MISFIRES WILL RUIN THE CATALYST. UNFORTUNATELY AT OVER 75000 MILES AND 8.5 YEARS, NO WARRANTIES APPLY. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD EASILY CAUSE A COLLISION AND WHEN PARTS BECOME AVAILABLE, WE WILL HAVE THE IGNITION COIL REPLACED. VW IS CLEARLY AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS AND SHOULD ACCELERATE THEIR RECALL CAMPAIGN ON THIS ISSUE. ALSO, THEY SHOULD REPLACE THE CATALYSTS THAT HAVE HAD THEIR USEFUL LIFE LOWERED BY THIS PROBLEM. *TR
THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND EVERY TIME YOU FILL THE GAS TANK UP ALL THE WAY, FUEL SPILLS ALL OVER THE PLACE. THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS DIAGNOSED AT THE MECHANIC WHO STATED THE LEAK DETECTION PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I CONTACTED THE VEHICLE DEALER TO OBTAIN THE PUMP IN EARLY AUGUST 2009. THEY DID NOT HAVE ONE IN STOCK SO I PLACED AN ORDER FOR ONE. THE DEALER SAID THEY PUT A RUSH ORDER ON IT; HOWEVER, IT IS NOW DECEMBER 2009, THE PART REMAINS ON BACKORDER ACCORDING TO THE DEALER AND I AM UNABLE TO RESOLVE THE PUMP FAILURE. WE ARE STILL UNABLE TO FILL THE FUEL TANK WITH GASOLINE POURING OUT ALL OVER THE GROUND. *TR

DISCONNECTED BATTERY POSITIVE TERMINAL AND PUT WATER ON SMOLDERING AREA TO EXTINGUISH FIRE. 8-10 INCH HOLE BURNED COMPLETELY THROUGH RIGHT SIDE OF REAR DECK. UPON MY INITIAL INSPECTION IT APPEARS TO HAVE INITIATED FROM THE CENTER BRAKE LIGHT WIRING. *TR

IT IS VERY SCARY WHEN YOU HAVE NO POWER IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AND YOU HAVE TO PULL THE CAR OVER AND RESTART HOPING THE LIGHT WILL GO OFF UNTIL YOU CAN GET TO YOUR DESTINATION. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME FOR APPARENTLY NO REASON. WE HAVE HAD IT DIAGNOSED BUT WITH NO RESULTS. HELP!! *TR
