THE NUMBER OF MISFIRES AND FAILED COILPACK'S ON MY '01 VW JETTA 1.8T IS RIDICULOUS. I KNOW OF SEVERAL PEOPLE GOING THROUGH THE SAME THING. WHEN THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY IS WAS IN THE SHOP AT LEAST 3 TIMES FOR THE SAME MISFIRE PROBLEM AND NOW THAT I'M OUT OF WARRANTY THE PROBLEM IS STILL VERY PERSISTENT. VW NEEDS TO OFFICIALLY RECALL THESE COIL PACKS WITH SOMETHING THAT WORKS PROPERLY. THIS PROBLEM IS GOING TO AFFECT MY ABILITY TO PASS MY STATE EMISSIONS TESTING AND SERIOUSLY EFFECTS MY DRIVEABILITY AND RELIABILITY.. VIN # [XXX]... PASSENGER WINDOW FALLS DOWN INTO DOOR WHILE ROLLING DOWN THE WINDOW. THIS FIRST OCCURRED IN MAY 2001, AND WAS FIXED. PROBLEM REPEATED IN JULY 2002. VOLKSWAGEN HAS BEEN NOTIFIED, BUT A FIX OF THIS DESIGN FLAW IS NOT YET AVAILABLE.*AK
I HAD A CLIENT, WHO IS AN 11 YEAR OLD BOY WITH AUTISM, IN THE LEFT REAR SEAT OF MY CAR. WE WERE SEVERAL FEET FROM A STOP SIGN WHILE TRAVELING ON A BUMPY ROAD. IN THE PROCESS OF SLOWING DOWN TO COME TO THE STOP SIGN, I HEARD A VERY LOUD POPPING SOUND TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAR. THE VEHICLE WAS ALMOST STOPPED BECAUSE OF THE STOP SIGN. THE VEHICLE TURNED OFF AND THE BATTERY LIGHT ILLUMINATED. WHEN I LOOKED TO THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAR, THE AIR BAGS ALONG THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE CAR WERE DEFLATING. I GOT OUT OF THE CAR TO SEE IF SOMETHING FELL ON THE CAR TO CAUSE THE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY AND TO MAKE SURE THAT THE CLIENT SITTING ON THAT SIDE WAS OKAY. THERE WAS NOTHING THAT HIT THE CAR. THE CLIENT WAS SCARED BUT PHYSICALLY OKAY. THE CAR STARTED RIGHT BACK UP SO I TUCKED THE AIRBAGS IN AND DROVE TO THE CLIENT'S HOME. MY CONTACT WITH VOLKSWAGEN HAS BEEN VERY UNSUCCESSFUL. THEY ARE CLAIMING PROPER DEPLOYMENT OF THE AIRBAGS DUE TO LATERAL MOVEMENT OF THE CAR. THEY ARE SHOWING WEAR ON THE OUTSIDE OF FRONT RIGHT AND REAR LEFT TIRES AS EVIDENCE OF PROPER DEPLOYMENT DUE TO LATERAL SKID. MY CONTENTION IS THAT THERE WAS NO LATERAL SKID ,AND THAT THE TRIGGERS MISFIRED OR ARE DANGEROUSLY TOO SENSITIVE.*AK
SUNROOF IS UNABLE TO OPEN DUE TO INTERIOR OBSTRUCTION, PLASTIC PIECES FROM ASSEMBLY CRACKED AND CRUMBLED OUT OF SUNROOF.*AK
FIRST MY PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW FAILED WHEN USING THE AUTO DOWN BUTTON. THREE MONTHS LATER THE DRIVERS SIDE HAS NOW FAILED. THE CAR IS ONLY 1 1/2 YEARS OLD.*AK
THE CONSUMER HAS EXPERIENCED THE FOLLOWING: TREAD SEPARATION(TIRES)/THE OUTSIDE TIRES CUPPED, MORE WEAR ON THE CENTER, 3-4 TIRES HAD SHOWN A SIGN OF SEPARATING CORDS, THE DRIVER SEAT BACK IS WORN, UNSPECIFIED BAD REMOTE, AND THE SPEAKER WOULD DRIFT AWAY THEN COME BACK AGAIN. A FRIEND HAS A 1999 OR 2000 JETTA & HAS EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM FOUR TIMES. THE DEALER SAYS THIS HAS OCCURRED FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS IN JETTA MODELS & VW HAS YET TO RECTIFY IT. THE DEALER HAS HAD A STEADY STREAM OF JETTA'S TO FIX, DAILY. EVEN NOW, MY REPLACEMENT PART IS ON ESTIMATED TWO WEEK BACKORDER. I ASKED AN UNKNOWN TO ME, JETTA DRIVER @A STOPSIGN IF HE HAD THIS PROBELM & SAID ONE TIME. HE REPORTED HIS GIRLFRIEND'S JETTA HAD IT HAPPEN TWELVE(!) TIMES, & A LAWSUIT WAS PENDING. APPARENTLY THE PLASTIC PIECE HOLDING THE WINDOW FAILS IN AZ'S +100F HEAT. PLEASE ADVISE WHAT RECOURSE IS BEST TO PURSUE.*AK
CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON THE ABS CONTROL UNIT IN MARCH 2002. AN APPOINTMENT COULD NOT BE MADE UNTIL JULY 10, 2002. THE ABS LIGHT & BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. CONSUMER WAS TOLD TO CONTINUE DRIVING THE CAR UNTIL JUNE 25. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY WERE APPALLED THAT UNDER THE SEVERITY OF THE ABS UNIT CONSUMER WAS TOLD TO KEEP DRIVING. *JG
CONSUMER STATES WINDOW IS STUCK IN THE DOWN POSITION AND HAS HAD 3 OF THE 4 WINDOW REGULATORS FAIL. ONE OF WHICH FAILED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH, WHICH COULD CAUSE A DIRECT SAFETY HAZARD. CONSUMER ADDS THAT SERVICE AT THE DEALERSHIP HAS NOT BEEN VERY TIMELY AND EFFECTIVE. *TT
THE CRUISE/BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH MALFUNCTIONED WHICH CAUSED THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. *NLM
THE MAF SENSOR WAS REPLACED ON MY VEHICLE ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO. I REPLACED PART MYSELF AFTER THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT THIS PART WAS BAD. I DID NOT RECEIVE A SERVICE REPORT FOR THIS TROUBLESHOOTING. I PURCHASED AND REPLACED THE PART MYSELF. 1.5 YEARS LATER I RECEIVED A WARRENTY EXTENSION LETTER FROM VW, STATING REIMBURSMENT WITH RECEIPT OF CHARGES, INCLUDING VIN # AND MILEAGE. AT THE TIME I PURCHASED THE PART, FROM A VW DEALER, THIS INFO WAS NOT REQUIRED TO BE ON A PART ORDER. I SUPMITTED THIS INFO IN DEC 2003. IN JUNE 2004, I RECEIVED A REJECT FOR CLAIM BECAUSE THE RECEIPT DID NOT HAVE THIS INFO ON IT. I BELIEVE THAT VW HAS DONE THE WARRENTY EXTENSION TO PREVENT AN OFFICAL RECALL, BUT IT HAS NOT BEEN DONE IN GOOD FAITH. THEY SET A REQUIREMENT THAT THEIR OWN DEALERS DID NOT START ON VIN AND MILEAGE ON PART ORDERS, ONLY ON SERVICE ORDERS, AT THE TIME. THEY HAVE DESIGNED THE SYSTEM TO FAIL. UNDER A WARRANTY EXTENSION THEY DO NOT HAVE TO REPORT THE NUMBER OF REJECTED CLAIMS TO YOU AND IT CAN APPEAR THAT THEY ARE ADDRESSING THE ISSUE. I CAN UNDERSTAND THIS REQUIREMENT FOR CLAIMS DATED AFTER THE LETTER, BUT NOT 1.5. YEARS BEFORE. *AK
THE WINDOW REGULATOR BROKE ON MY FRONT, PASSENGER-SIDE WINDOW. BASED ON THE LARGE NUMBER OF CONSUMER COMPLAINTS AS WELL AS OTHER INFORMATION, I HAVE REASON TO BELIEVE THAT THE WINDOW REGULATOR IS DEFECTIVE. VW HAS NOT ISSUED A RECALL ON THIS PART AND HAS REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE REGULATOR IN MY VEHICLE. I BELIEVE THIS IS A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD AS THE WINDOW REGULATOR CAN SUDDENLY FAIL AND CAUSE THE WINDOW TO DROP DOWN INTO THE DOOR WHILE THE VEHICLE IS BEING OPERATED. IN ADDITION TO BEING A DANGEROUS DISTRACTION, THIS WOULD PLACE THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER AT INCREASED RISK OF HAVING AN ACCIDENT SHOULD THIS OCCUR DURING A HEAVY DOWNPOUR OR SNOWFALL.*AK
CENTER CONSOLE LATCH BROKE AND HAD TO BE REPLACEDL. *AK
BACK BRAKE LIGHTS HAVE WORN OUT, AND THE LIGHT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT BRAKES NEED SERVICE HAS NOT COME ON YET. CONTACTED DEALER, AND THE DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*AK
VEHICLE HAS A BURNING RUBBER/WAX SMELL. WHEN ENGINE GETS HOT SMELL GETS REALLY TOXIC. VEHICLE CHECKED BY DEALER, WHO REPLACED CARPET BETWEEN FIREWALL AND DASHBOARD, SINCE THEN SMELL IS EVEN WORSE.*AK *YH
MY CAR WHICH WAS PURCHASED BRAND NEW IN JULY 2001 HAS BEEN TO THE REPAIR SHOP 13 TIMES. I PURCHASED A 2001 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE ONGOING PROBLEM IS THAT THE CAR IS LOSING POWER WHILE ACCELERATING. VOLKSWAGEN DOESN'T WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE DEFECT OF THEIR OWN PRODUCT. I WAS TOLD TWO THINGS WHICH DOESN'T MAKE SENSE TO ME. FIRST, I WAS TOLD MY ENGINE IS NOT APART OF THE RECALL FOR THOSE OTHER VW CARS THAT ARE LOSING POWER. SECOND, A VW REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME IT WAS MY EXTRA CAR MATS THAT IS PROBABLY CAUSING THE PROBLEM. I THINK VOLKSWAGEN IS JUST IGNORING THIS SERIOUS PROBLEM. IF MY CAR SLOWS DOWN ON ME WHENEVER IT WANTS AND I DIE AS A RESULT OF THEIR DEFECT PRODUCT THAT THEY DON'T WANT TO RECOGNIZE, IT IS TRULY GOING TO BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM. THE CAR HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE, AIRBAGS, MALFUNCTIONED SENSOR, CLOCK SPRING, HARNESS, AND NOW IT IS LOSING POWER. ALTHOUGH THIS CAR HAS HAD NUMEROUS PROBLEMS, THIS IS THE MOST SERIOUS PROBLEM THAT I WOULD LIKE O BE RECTIFIED. VOLKSWAGEN SERVICE DEPARTMENT CHANGED THE COMPUTER AND TOLD ME THIS WILL DEFINITELY SOLVE THE PROBLEM. OBVIOUSLY IT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. SINCE THE COMPUTER WAS CHANGED IN SEPT. 2002 THE CAR LOST POWER 3 TIMES SINCE THEN.*JB
WHEN PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE, THEN SUDDENLY STARTS TO ACCELERATE. THE CAR STUTTERS BEFORE TAKING OFF THIS HAS CAUSED MY WIFE TO ALMOST GET INTO NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS. WE HAVE TAKEN IT DOWN TO THE DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS TIMES, THE FIRST TIME THEY SAID IT WAS A CLOGGED VALVE AND THEY WOULD ORDER IT AND CALL ME BACK WHEN IT WAS IN STOCK. WHEN I CALLED THEM 2 MONTHS LATER THEY SAID WE CAN SCHEDULE AN APPOINTMENT THE PART SHOULD BE IN STOCK, BUT THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT PART IT WAS EXACTLY SINCE IT WAS NOT LISTED ON THE WORK ORDER. WHEN I TOOK IT BACK THEY SAID THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN THAT STATED WHEN THE BRAKE IS DEPRESSED AND RELEASED THE CAR WILL HESITATE BEFORE GOING BECAUSE THE CAR STILL THINKS THE BRAKE IS ON, BUT THEY COULD NOT REPRODUCE THIS OR ANY OTHER PROBLEM ON OUR CAR. WE HAVE ALSO HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROLS, AFTER TAKING THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP 5 TIMES THEY FINALLY "CHECKED" THE CONTROLS AND FOUND SOMETHING WRONG. *NLM

WHILE DRIVING, VEHICLE LOSES POWER WITH OUT WARNING. NO LIGHTS ILLUMINATE BEFORE OR AFTER VEHICLE STALLS. DEALER IS AWARE OF PROBLEM. *AK THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE NEAREST DEALER FOR REPAIRS. WHEN CONSUMER RECEIVED THE VEHICLE BACK, THE MILEAGE WAS RUN UP TO AN INAPPROPRIATE AMOUNT. VEHICLE HAD BEEN IN 4 TIMES PRIOR FOR VEHICLE NOT STARTING. DEALER EXPLAINDED NOTHING COULD BE FOUND WRONG AND THAT THEY HAD DRIVEN THE VEHICLE APPROX. 120 MILES. THERE IS AN UNANSWERED 82 MILES TO BE ACCOUNTED FOR. DEALER HAS REPLACED THE ECM POWER RELAY AND A PIN AT THE ECU CONNECTOR.

THE CAR WAS STOPPED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIODENT. IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND IS BEING EVALUATED BY VW AT THIS TIME FOR A CAUSE OF THE DEPLOYMENT. *AK

DISCOVERED CAR WAS BURNING OIL ALTHOUGH IT GAVE NO INDICATIONS. TOLD THIS WAS NORMAL BY DEALER. CAR ALMOST STALLED ON THREE OCCASIONS UNDER 20000 MILES. OXYGEN SENSOR WAS REPLACED AFTER CAR ALMOST STALLED ON MAJOR HIGHWAY IN FRONT OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. FIXED AFTER THREE SEPERATE TRIPS TO DEALER. CAR HAS HAD ALL SHEDULED OIL CHANGES AND MAINTAINENCE SINSE PURCHASE.
CONSUMER EXPERIENCED A BURNING WIRE SMELL INSIDE VEHICLE, PRIOR TO THE RECALL # 02 V 031 000. ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED.*JBCONSUMER WAS TOLD BY DEALER THE PROBLEM WAS NOT SERIOUS AND DID NOT REQUIRE IMMEDIATE ATTENTION, HOWEVER THE ABS FAILURE EVENTUALLY DRAINED THE BATTERY. *JG

WHILE TRAVELING AND WITHOUT ANY INDICATION, PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED, INJURING PASSENGER. *AK CONSUMER STATED THAT VEHICLE DID NOT HIT ANYTHING, THE AIR BAG LIGHT DID NOT ILLUMINATE PRIOR TO DEPLOYMENT, THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT AND SIDE CURTAIN DEPLOYED, CAUSING INJURY TO CONSUMERS WIFE.*JB IE04-078*PO
WHILE DRIVING THE GLASS OF THE PASSANGER SIDE EXTERIOR MIRROR CAME LOOSE AND WAS FLAPPING BY THE CABLE. CHIPPED MIRROR, ALMOST BROKE THE PASSENGER WINDOW (LEFT MARKS/SCRATCHES FROM IMPACTING WINDOW) AND LEFT 10-15 SCRATCHES IN THE DOOR'S PAINT. DEALERSHIP STATED THEY REPLACE ABOUT TWO A WEEK. FAILURE RATE APPEARS HIGH IF THAT IS THE CASE. NO KNOWN CAUSE OF FAILURE, WAS NOT STRUCK OR ANYTHING. SUSPECT VACUUM FORCES FROM AIR FLOW OVER MIRROR HOUSING OVERCAME THE PLASTIC RETAINING CLIPS. DEALER STATES NOT A WARRANTY REPAIR SAYING IT MUST HAVE BEEN STRUCK ALTHOUGH NO VISIBLE EVIDENCE EXISTS ON HOUSING AND NOTHING WAS IN THE VICINITY OF THE CAR WHEN IT OCCURRED, HAVE CONTACTED VW OF AMERICA AND INITIAL RESPONSE IS "WE STAND BY OUR SERVICE CENTER'S DECISIONS."*AK

2ND TIME - PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW REGULATOR HAS FAILED. REGULATOR WAS REPLACED IN JULY OF 2001, ONLY SIX MONTHS AGO. DRIVER'S SIDE WINDOW HAS ALSO FAILED PREVIOUSLY. *AK
WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED ON OR OFF A LOUD NOISE WAS HEARD. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOUR TIMES, AND MECHANIC COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. *AK
BLEMISHES IN THE PAINT ON THE HOOD HAD TO TAKE TO DEALER TWICE TO GET THIS PROBLEM RECTIFIED!!!*AK
I HAVE HAD TROUBLE WITH THIS JETTA FROM THE FIRST DAY I TOOK OWNERSHIP OF THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKE ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN REPLACED. THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH HAS BEEN REPLACED. NOW I HAVE JUST RECEIVED A NEW TRANSMISSION IN MY TEN MONTH OLD CAR. THE CAR'S TRANSMISSION WAS RESET THREE TIMES BEFORE VOLKSWAGEN REPLACED THE VALVE BODY. THIS PROCEDURE DID NOT WORK AND IN TURN ENDANGERED MY LIFE. I WAS TRYING TO GET ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT AND WAS SHUDDERING. I WAS ALMOST HIT BY AN ONCOMING 18 WHEELED TRUCK. I AM SCARED EVERY TIME I HAVE TO GET BACK IN THIS CAR. THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN FIXED, BUT NOT MY TRUST. *AK
