CONSUMER STATES THAT WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE THE ALARM SOUNDS AND HORN GOES OFF AND LIGHTS FLASH ON AND OFF FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES. THIS ALSO HAPPENS WHEN OPENING DOORS TO EXIT THE VEHICLE. ALSO THE ILLUMINATED ENTRY AND THE POWER DOOR LOCKS WERE NOT WORKING. THE DEALER HAS REPLACED WIRING AND RELAY IN THE DOORS, THE RADIO IGNITION SWITCH, AND DOOR LOCK, HOWEVER THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS. THE DEALER NOW STATES THAT THERE IS NOTHING FURTHER THEY CAN DO. NLM FRONT BUMER PULLED LOOSE. BUMPER AND LOWER FACIA REINSTALLED. *TT
I OWN A 2001 VW JETTA WITH THE 1.9L TDI DIESEL ENGINE. THIS VEHICLE IS MAINTAINED BY MY LOCAL VW DEALERSHIP. DURING COLD WEATHER CONDITIONS BELOW 30 DEGREES F MY VEHICLE WOULD STOP RUNNING STRANDING ME AT NIGHT IN LOCATIONS WITH LITTLE ROAD TRAFFIC OR CELL PHONE SERVICE. THIS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 6 TIMES REQUIRING THE VEHICLE TO BE TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP. EACH TIME THAT THE VEHICLE WAS THAWED IN THEIR SHOP AND WAS DIAGNOSED WITH "IMPROPERLY TREATED DIESEL FUEL". I METICULOUSLY PUT IN THE RECOMMENDED AMOUNT OF VW ANTI-GEL ADDITIVE TO ALL TANK FULLS OF FUEL. I ALSO CONSISTENTLY PURCHASE MY DIESEL FUEL FROM THE SAME HIGH VOLUME SUPPLIER WHO HAS NUMEROUS FLEET ACCOUNTS. I HAD BEGUN TO TRIPLE DOSE THE DIESEL FUEL ADDITIVE IN ATTEMPTS TO AVOID THIS SITUATION. AFTER NUMEROUS TIMES OF BEING STRANDED IN SINGLE DIGIT CONDITIONS AND HAVING THE SAME SITUATION OCCUR I CHECKED A TDI OWNERS WEBSITE TDICLU.COM IT SEEMS THAT THE PROBLEM LIES IN THE FUEL TANK PICK UP WHICH HAS A RESTRICTION THAT ONLY SURFACES WHEN THE FUEL THICKENS DURING THE WINTER MONTHS. THE FUEL PICKUP/SENDING UNIT COMES IN A C, D, AND AN H MODEL. MY VEHICLE HAD THE C MODEL. APPARENTLY VW OF CANADA IS AWARE OF THIS SITUATION AND WITHOUT QUESTION OR CHARGE WOULD REPLACE THEIR CUSTOMERS CARS WITH THE H MODEL. I PURCHASED THE H MODEL PICKUP/SENDER AND REPLACED IT MYSELF AND THE PROBLEM HAS DISAPPEARED. TO DATE I HAVE INCURRED MORE THAN ONE THOUSAND DOLLARS IN TOWING AND REPAIR CHARGES FOR THIS PROBLEM THAT IS CLEARLY A VW DESIGN FLAW AND ONE THAT IS ACKNOWLEDGED BY VW OF CANADA. *NM
CONSUMER RAN OVER AN OBJECT, AND THE SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE MOUNT OF THE REAR AXLE BEAM.(STATE FARM INSURANCE, CLAIM NUMBER, 47-4308-227)*JB
WINDOWS ON DOORS KEEP FALLING DOWN. HAD TAKEN TO DEALER, AND WAS INFORMED THAT REGULATOR FOR WINDOWS WAS BROKEN & NEEDED REPLACING. PROBLEM WITH WINDOWS STILL EXIST AFTER REPAIRS.*AK
FOR THE 2ND TIME, THE WINDOW REGULATOR ON MY VOLKSWAGEN JETTA HAS BROKEN. THE FIRST TIME (DRIVER'S SIDE), I BOUGHT AND REPLACED THE REGULATOR MYSELF. THE 2ND TIME (PASSENGER SIDE), THE DEALERSHIP (DIRITO BROS IN WALNUT CREEK, CA) FIXED IT UNDER "GOOD WILL". WHEN I FIXED IT MYSELF, I NOTICED NO DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE REPLACEMENT PART AND THE ORIGINAL. THE DEALER CLAIMS THAT THEY PERFORM SEVERAL WINDOW REGULATOR REPLACEMENTS DAILY. AS A MECHANICAL ENGINEER, I CAN CONFIDENTLY STATE THAT THE PLASTIC ROTOR (WHICH HAS BEEN THE CAUSE OF ALL MY WINDOW FAILURES) IS SIGNIFICANTLY UNDERDESIGNED FOR THE FUNCTION IT MUST PERFORM. *AK
WHILE DRIVING, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED, UPON INSPECTION CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THERE WAS SOME DAMAGE TO THE UNDERCARRIAGE AND PERFERATION OF THE FLOORBOARD WHICH CAUSED THE AIRBAG TO DEPLOY.(STATE FARM INSURANCE, CLAIM NUMBER, 13-7602-854)*JB
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES IN SNOW OR ICY CONDITIONS IT CAUSES BRAKES TO LOCK UP OR FREEZES UP. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER, AND THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY THING WRONG, BUT THE PROBLEM IS REOCCURRING. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A 50MPH FRONT END COLLISION. FRONT PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. *AK ONE PERSON WAS INJURED IN THE ACCIDENT. *SLC
VEHICLE WAS TAKEN IN FOR A ROUTINE OIL CHANGE. BRAKE PADS WERE WORN OUT. THERE WAS METAL TO METAL NOISE, AND ROTORS WERE RUINED. DEALER SAID THAT REAR BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS NEEDEDTO BE REPLACED. *AK
TRANSMISION DOES NOT SHIFT CORRECTLY AROUND THIRD GEAR, THE CAR WILL REV UP THEN THE CAR HAS A HARD JERK. AS FOR THE ENGINE THE ENGINE WILL KILL ANY WHERE AT ANY TIME THE HOLE CAR WILL JUST SHUT OF DRIVING OR JUST SITTING STILL. I FEEL VERY UNSAFE IN THIS CAR!*AK

VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISOIN AT 50MPH, UPON IMPACT, AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, RESULING IN MINOR INJURIES TO DRIVER. DEALER WILL BE NOTIFIED. PLEASE PROVIDE ADDITIONAL INFORMATION. *AK
FRONT BUMPER ASSEMBLY TORE OFF VEHICLE WHEN BACKING OUT OF PARKING SPACE. BUMPER SKIPPED ON TOP OF PORTABLE CONCRETE CURB AT EXTREMELY LOW REVERSE SPEED (LESS THAN 1 MPH).*AK
CONSUMER LOST POWER WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE. ALSO, WHEN DRIVING VEHICLE HESITATED. THE IGNITION COIL WAS REPLACED AT LEAST TWICE ON RECALLS. MANUFACTURER TOLD THE CONSUMER TO CHANGE THE GASOLINE. HOWEVER, VEHICLE STILL OPERATED IN THE SAME MANNER. *AK
I PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT WITH A CONCRETE TIRE BUMPER. I JUST ROLLED INTO THE SPOT WAITING FOR MY TIRES TO HIT THE BUMPER BUT MY BUMPER HIT AND WHEN I TRIED TO PULL OUT, MY WHOLE BUMPER JUST PULLED RIGHT OFF OF THE CAR. UMPER
UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE AND PUTTING FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO MOVE INTO ANOTHER GEAR THE BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE BRAKE APPEARED TO LOCK THE GEAR SHIFT, AND YOU COULD NOT GET IT TO GO INTO ANOTHER GEAR. THE SHIFT WILL NOT COME OUT OF PARK. CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. *AK
EPC LIGHT CAME ON, COULD NOT GET CAR OUT OF PARK, ABS LIGHT CAME ON, BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON, EPC LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN, MIL LIGHT CAME ON, WINDOW NEEDED TO BE REPLACED-CABLE ASSEMBLY FAILED & COULD NOT OPERATE WINDOW, TURN SIGNALS BECAME INOPERABLE, ENGINE COVER CLAMP LOOSE, RADIO SHORTED OUT, EPC LIGHT CAME ON (AGAIN--3RD TIME!!) AND AGAIN COULD NOT GET CAR OUT OF PARK, BATTERY DIES AND DRAINS CAR DUE TO SHORTAGE IN DRIVERS DOOR LATCH ASSEMBLY, AIR-CONDITIONING FAILS. COULD NOT DRIVE CAR. HAD TO HAVE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH REPLACED 3 TIMES!! NOTE, CAR WAS ONLY 2 1/2 MONTHS OLD UPON FIRST INCIDENT. *NM
INTERMINTENT PROBLEM SHIFTING FROM FIRST GEAR TO SECOND. CAR WOULD NOT SHIFT THEREFORE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE IN TRAFFIC. DEALER REPLACED ELECTRICAL PART CALLED A VALVE BODY. CAR STILL DID NOT WORK PROPERLY. VOLKSWAGEN RECCOMENDED COMPLETE TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENT WHICH DEALER PERFORMED. WE HAVE CONCERNS OVER SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE IF THIS PART SHOULD FAIL AGAIN. IS THERE STATISTICAL DATA AVAILABLE REGARDING FAILURE OF THIS PART?
AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT INVOLVING TRACTOR TRAILER. CAR WAS HIT DIRECTLY ON THE DRIVERS SIDE, REAR AND FRONT END OF VEHICLE. ACCIDENT SPEED WAS 65 MPH. TWO FRONT AIRBAGS DEPLOYED BUT THE DRIVERS SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAG DID NOT. THE AIR BAG MAY HAVE MALFUNCTIONED. THE CAR WAS TOTALED. DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES TO THE LEFT HEMISPHERE OF HEAD. REPORTED TO VW BUT HAVE HAD NO RESPONSE. *NM
WHILE TRAVELING ABOUT 70 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY AND WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAGS AND THE OVERHEAD AIRBAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT CONTACT WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. TS *JG
PASSENGER "WINDOW CURTAIN" AIRBAG AND PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG DEPLOYED WHEN I HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD. THERE WAS NO IMPACT, LOSS OF CONTROL IN DRIVING VEHICLE, OR ANYOTHER DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. *AK IE04-078*PO
ON OCT. 7,2001 ( FOUR DAYS AFTER TAKING DELIVERY), I WAS SLOWLY MERGING INTO TRAFFIC . WHEN I PUT MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL, THERE WAS NO ACCERLATION FOR A FEW SECONDS (CAR JUST IDLED) AND THEN SUDDENLY, THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD INTO TRAFFIC AT A HIGH SPEED WITH THE TIRES SCREECHING. THE SAME THING HAPPENED TWICE MORE ON OCTOBER 17, 2001 WHEN TURNING LEFT AT INTERSECTIONS; THEN ABOUT 10 TIMES ON OCTOBER 17 WHILE EITHER MAKING TURNS OR DRIVING IN HEAVY TRAFFIC; TWICE ON NOV.7; AND, TWICE MORE ON NOV. 13. WE WERE AFRAID TO DRIVE CAR ON OCT. 25 AND HAD TOWED TO CLOSEST DEALER. CAR HAS BEEN TO SERVICE DEPT. TWICE, ON 10/22 AND 10/25. DEFECT NOT FOUND OR REPAIRED. WE ARE TOO AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR AS WE WERE ALMOST IN 5 ACCIDENTS.*AK
BRAKE LIGHTS HAVE GONE OUT, AND WILL NOT WORK WHEN CONSUMER IS DRIVING. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER IS NOT WILLING TO DO THE WORK.*AK
I'VE COME TO MY CAR SEVERAL TIMES AND HAVE FOUND THE BRAKE LIGHTS ON. AFTER DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL SEVERAL TIMES, THEY COME OFF, BUT MANAGED TO COME ON AGAIN AFTER CLOSING THE DOOR. MORE DISTURBING, HOWEVER, IS THE FACT THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE IS ON, YOUR FOOT DOES NOT HAVE TO BE APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL TO SHIFT OUT OF PARK; IT ASSUMES YOUR FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE. THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT GOOD; NOT TO MENTION THE DRAIN ON THE BATTERY. HAVE THERE BEEN SIMILAR PROBLEMS REPORTED?*AK
ABS LIGHT CAME ON AT STARTUP, CONTACTED DEALER SERVICE AND TOLD THEM OF THE PROBLEM, ASKED IF SAFE TO DRIVE. THEY REPLIED YES WITHOUT ABS. DROVE 30MI HOME, STOPPED AND SHUTOFF CAR, 1MINUTE LATER, LARGE AMOUNTS OF SMOKE FROM UNDER HOOD AND IN CABIN. FIRE DEPT RESPONDED. NO VISIBLE FLAME, BUT BURNED WIRING WAS EVIDENT. DEALER HAS ONLY CONFIRMED SO FAR THAT THE ABS CONTROLLER, PUMP AND WIRING HARNESS HAS SHORTED OUT.*AK
CONSUMER STATES WHILE DRIVING, THE CHECK OIL LIGHT ILLUMINATED, WHEN CHECKING THE DIPSTICK THERE WAS NO OIL, SO THE CONSUMER ADDED 1 QUART OF OIL AND CALLED THE DEALER, THE DEALER IS RUNNING AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST, BUT IN THE MEANTIME THE ENGINE IS STILL USING ALMOST A QUART OF OIL EVERY 1000 MILES. *SLC
I HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS AFTER PURCHASING MY BRAND NEW 2001 V.W JETTA. I HAD VEHICLE ONLY 6 MONTHS AND IT LEFT ME STRANDED DUE TO MALFUNCTION OF EMISSION CONTROL SENSOR. 5 MONTHS AFTER THAT, IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER WAS INOPERABLE, NEEDING THEM TO REPAIR. 2 MONTHS LATER, OWNED FOR 1 YR 1 MONTH, CAR WAS BURNING A LOT OF OIL SO CONSUMPTION TEST WAS DONE AND DETERMINED TO BE TRUE,THAT THE CAR WAS IN FACT CONSUMING ABNORMAL AMOUNT OF OIL. AS "A COURTESY TO ME, THE CUSTOMER" VOLKSWAGEN REPLACED PISTON RINGS, ROD BEARINGS AND DEGLAZED CYLYNDER WALLS. THEY HAD MY CAR 6 DAYS TO REBUILD ENGINE. 6 MONTHS LATER CAR WAS SHAKING REALLY BAD WHEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, TOOK IT IN AND SERVICE TECHNITION DISCOVERED THAT REAR BRAKES WERE WARPED AND REAR BRAKE PADS HAD "PREMATURE WEAR." THOSE WERE REPLACED. THROUGHOUT THIS COURSE OF TIME THE PASSENGER BRAKE LIGHT HAD BEEN REPLACE 2 TIMES,AIR CONDITION VENT WAS NOT WORKING AND HAD TO BE REMOVE AND INSTALL NEW CENTER AIR OUTLET,ARMREST BROKE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED, GLOVE COMPARTMENT LATCH BROKE, AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS HAVE GONE OUT AND BEEN REPAIRED NUMEROUS TIMES BUT ARE STILL FAULTY,NOT WORKING AT THIS TIME. VOLKSWAGEN HAS TREATED ME AS THOUGH I WAS THE ONE INCONVIENCING THEM!! I REGRET PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE AND WILL CONTINUE DISCOURAGING ANYONE FROM EVER BUYING A VOLKSWAGEN! I DON'T FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR!! AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH I SEE NOW THAT I AM NOT ALONE. THIS JETTA WAS IN AN ACCIDENT. IT WAS TOTALED. ANOTHER CAR MADE A LEFT-HAND TURN AND T-BONED INTO THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THE THE CAR SPUN AROUND INTO A DITCH. AT SOME POINT, THE PASSENGER REAR CORNER UNDERSIDE WAS SEVERLY DENTED UP INTO THE TRUNK. THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR AIRBAG DEPLOYED. THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR AIRBAG DEPLOYED. THE PASSENGER FRONT DASH AIR BAG DEPLOYED. BUT THE DRIVER'S STEERING WHEEL AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. SINCE ALL OTHER AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, EXCEPT THIS ONE, I AM REQUESTING THAT THIS BE ANALYZED AND TESTED. IT WAS NOT A FRONTAL COLLISON, BUT SINCE THE PASSENGER FRONT DASH AIRBAG DEPLOYED, I THINK IT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. THE FRONT OF THE CAR WAS ONLY SLIGHTLY DAMAGED, SO WHY SHOULD ONE FRONT AIRBAG GO OFF BUT NOT THE OTHER.*AK
WHILE TRAVELING AT 35 MPH AND WITHOUT ANY INDICATION AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. DEALER AND MANUFACTURER HAVE BEEN CONTACTED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK IE04-078*PO
THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A TOTAL BRAKE FAILURE. THE PEDAL OFFERED LITTLE RESISTANCE, AND SANK TO THE FLOOR. AN ACCIDENT WAS AVOIDED BY EMERGENCY PROCEDURES. THE THROTTLE WAS ALSO INOPERATIVE. AFTER BRINGING THE VEHICLE TO A EVENTUAL STOP, THE BRAKES SLOWLY RETURNED TO NORMAL, MUSHY AT FIRST, THEN TO ORIGINAL FEEL. NOT AN EXPERT AT DIAGNOSIS, BUT IT WOULD APPEAR THAT THE "BRAIN" THAT CONTROLS THROTTLE AND THE ABS SYSTEMS EXPERIENCED A TEMPORARY FAILURE. NO INDICATOR LIGHTS WERE DISPALYED TO INDICATE ANY FORM OF FAILURE. NEEDLESS TO SAY, THIS WAS AN "EXCITING" EXPERIENCE FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES!!!. *AK
IT IS ESSENTIAL FOR MY SAFETY TO BE ABLE TO ROLL THE WINDOWS UP ON MY VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING IN THE CITY. THE WINDOWS HAVE NOW BROKEN 3 TIMES IN THE DOWN POSITION AND THE CAR IS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD WITH LESS THAN 12,000 MILES ON IT! THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.*AK
THEREIS A VERY HEAVY CHEMICAL SMELL IN INTERIOR OF VEHICLE. TOOK VEHICLE TO VOLKSWAGEN FOR SERVICE, AND DEALER COULDN'T LOCATE A PROBLEM. CONSUMER STATED THAT SMELL WAS MAKING DRIVER SICK IN THE STOMACH. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AKI
APPROXIMATELY 3 MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING MY 2001 JETTA, I NOTICED A CRAYON/WAX SMELL THROUGHOUT THE INTERIOR OF THE CAR. EVERY ONE OF MY PASSENGERS HAS COMMENTED ON THE PUNGENCY OF THE CRAYON SMELL. A COUPLE MONTHS LATER, I BROUGHT MY CAR IN TO BE SERVICED AND NOTIFIED THE DEALER OF THIS SMELL, AND HE RESPONDED THAT THIS WAS THE "STANDARD VOLKSWAGEN SMELL". OTHER SUBSEQUENT DEALERSHIPS HAVE CLAIMED THAT THEY HAVE NEVER EVEN HEARD OF THIS SMELL BEFORE. ON HOT DAYS, THE SMELL BECOMES GROSSLY PUNGENT AND HAS CAUSED ME AND MY PASSENGERS HEADACHES AND NAUSEA. THE SMELL EVEN STAYS IN MY CLOTHES FOR DAYS. I AM AFRAID WHETHER THIS SMELL IS TOXIC. *JB
IN BOTH INSTANCES I RETURNED THE CAR TO CHARLES MAUND VW IN AUSTIN FOR REPAIR UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SEEN BY MECHANICS FROM TWO DIFFERENT DEALORSHIPS ON FIVE OCCASIONS DUE TO THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO DATE. ON THE FOURTH TRIP TO THE SHOP IT WAS EVALUATED BY THE MECHANICS AS HAVING DEFECTIVE GAS TANK THAT HAD A SLOW LEAK. ON THIS OCCASION THE AUTO WAS KEPT FOR 1 WEEK FOR REPAIRS. HERE WE ARE A WEEK LATER AND THE LIGHT IS BACK ON AND IT'S BACK IN THE SHOP AGAIN. MEANWHILE I AM ON PROBATION AT MY NEW JOB AND AM HAVING TO TAKE CONSIDERABLE TIME OFF DUE TO THESE REPAIRS. I AM STILL ON PROBATION AT THIS JOB AND I HAVE ALSO MISSED OUT ON THE OPPORTUNITY OF OVERTIME BECAUSE OF CONTINUAL TRIPS TO THE DEALORS SHOPS. I HAVE ONLY MADE THREE PAYMENTS ON THE CAR TO DATE AND I AM PAYING FOR SOMETHING THAT IS IN THE SHOP AS MUCH AS IT IS IN THE DRIVEWAY. I HAVE CONTACTED VOLKSWAGEN'S CUSTOMER CARE DEPARTMENT, AND THEY STATED THAT "THIS IS WHY CARS COME WITH WARRANTIES" AND THAT IT WAS MY PROBLEM, NOT THEIRS. WHILE DRIVING IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC THE MASTER CYLINDER FAILED RESULTING IN LOSS OF BRAKING ABILITY. NLM
FRONT BUMPER GROUND EFFECTS ARE OBVIOUSLY DESIGNED TOO LOW. BESIDES SCRAPING IN DRIVEWAYS, THE BUMPER HAS BEEN PULLED OFF SEVERAL TIMES WHEN LEAVING A PARKED SPACE WITH A CONCRETE 'TIRE BUMPER'. THESE WERE OBVIOUSLY MEANT TO STOP THE TIRES OF THE CAR, AND NOT PULL THE WHOLE BUMPER OFF. THE DEALER CHARGED ME TO REPLACE THE PLASTIC LINING, WHICH WAS PULLED FROM THE BUMPER AND HAD WORN AGAINST THE TIRE. THE BUMPER IS NO LONGER SECURELY FASTENED AS THE PARTS ARE WEARING DOWN. CORPORATE WAS OF NO HELP AND WOULD NOT REIMBURSE OR SUGGEST A COURSE OF ACTION TO AVOID FUTURE PROBLEMS. I WILL NOT BE KEEPING THIS CAR THROUGH THE TERM I EXPECTED AND WILL NOT RECOMMEND ONE TO ANYONE SHOPPING. TOO BIG OF A HASTLE TO DEAL WITH. VEHICLE WAS HIT DIRECTLY ON DRIVERS SIDE AT 50 MPH BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. CONSUMER FELT THAT SIDE AIRBAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED INSTEAD OF STEERING WHEEL AND THE DASH BOARD DEPLOYING. ALL MAJOR PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN TAKEN CARE OF QUITE WELL, HOWEVER I HAVE HAD A CONSTANT CREAKING NOISE IN BOTH DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S DOOR AS WELL AS A KNOCKING NOISE FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE THE ENGINE BEGAN TO SPUTTER AND SHAKE WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATING, CONSUMER RETURNED VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP TO FIX TEMPERATURE REGULATOR IN THE ENGINE SYSTEM, HOWEVER AFTER REPAIR THE VEHICLE'S ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND CONSUMER LOST ALL BRAKING ABILITY. THE DEALERSHIP AND MANUAL STATE THAT IT IS OK FOR THE DRIVER TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON, BUT WHEN LIGHT IS FLASHING DO NOT DRIVE, THE BRAKES AND ENGINE FAILURE OCCURRED WITHOUT FLASHING LIGHTS FOR PROPER WARNING. *MJS

CHECK OIL LIGHT CAME ON. AFTER CHECKING DIPSTICK FOUND THAT IT WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY. TOOK CAR NEXT DAY DIRECTLY TO DEALER AND FOUND THEY KNOW OF PROBLEM WITH THE CAR BURNING OIL AND IT WAS "NORMAL FOR THE CAR TO DO THAT UNDER 10,000." CAR WAS SERVICED AT MINUTEMAN VW FOR 5K SERVICE. CAR TAKEN TO SAME LOCATION. THEY SUGGESTED WE PUT OIL IN CAR AND COME BACK TUESDAY. WE DROVE AWAY BUT RETUNED AFTER 10 MINUTES TO GET RENTAL CAR. THE VEHICLE GAVE NO SIGNS ABOUT AN OIL LEAK BEFOREHAND NOR HEAVY SMOKE FROM THE EXHUAST. UNFORTUNATELY, I DID NOT GET A CHANCE TO CHECK THE SPARK PLUGS. IS THERE ANY RECOURSE WE CAN HAVE SINCE THIS DEFECT NO MATTER HOW MANY TIMES WE TAKE IT BACK WILL DEVALUE OUR VEHICLE? PLEASE ADVISE.
