FIRST DEALERSHIP COMPLETED RECALL 02V031000 INCORRECTLY. HAD ANOTHER DEALER CHECK IT. OTHER DEALERSHIP WAS CHARGING CONSUMER TO FIX THE OTHER DEALERSHIPS ERROR.*AK
I PURCHASED THE 2002 1.8T VOLKSWAGEN JETTA ON 1/09/02. MY SERVICE RECORD BEGINS ON 1/23/02. FROM DAY ONE, I HAVE POINTED OUT THAT THIS CAR LEAKS/HAS WIND NOISE FROM DOORS/WINDOWS. SEALS WERE REPLACED ON DRIVERS SIDE DOORS ON 6/27/02. LEAKAGE/MOISTURE TO DATE, IS AN ISSUE. NOW THERE IS VISIBLE WATER DAMAGE AND MOLD GROWING ALONG DRIVERS SIDE. ISSUE- POOR QUALITY PRODUCT. DANGEROUS MOLD GROWING-HEALTH FACTOR! IGNITION COIL FAILURE TWICE! RADIO HAS BLOWN TWICE- FAULTY WIRING! CAR LUNGES WHEN STARTED OR HARD TO STOP ONCE RUNNING. MY SITUATION IS NOT "SPECIAL". THERE ARE MANY OTHERS THAT HAVE PURCHASED THIS PRODUCT AND HAVE THEIR SAFETY COMPROMISED. IGNITION COIL IS A SUPPOSE TO BE A RECALL, BUT ONLY WHEN THEY FAIL. VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA WILL NOT REPLACE UNTIL YOU ARE STRANDED! THIS IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE. MOLD GROWING IN MY CAR IS A SEVERE SAFETY ISSUE.*AK
I HAD MY FIRST IGNITION COIL PACK FAIL A FEW DAYS AGO. THE DEALER WAS GREAT AND VERY PREPARED TO HANDLE THIS PROBLEM THE BEST THEY COULD, HOWEVER VW CANNOT MAKE THE PARTS FAST ENOUGH TO SATISFY THE DEMAND AND I WILL HAVE A LOANER CAR FOR AT LEAST 3 WEEKS. I KNOW THAT VW WILL ONLY REPLACE THE COIL THAT FAILED SO I GUESS I CAN LOOK FORWARD TO THIS HAPPENING SEVERAL TIMES IN THE FUTURE. GREAT. I AM DISAPPOINTED AND MAD THAT VW KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM AND IS UNWILLING TO REPLACE ALL 4 LEAVING ME TO BREAK DOWN AGAIN.

COIL PACK FAILURE - THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH NEWER VW AND AUDI MODELS WITH THE 1.8T ENGINES. WHILE VW SAYS IT'S NOT A SAFETY ISSUE - WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU'RE ON A HIGHWAY AT 70MPH WITH A TRUCK RIGHT BEHIND YOU AND YOU SUDDENLY STALL OR LOSE POWER? WHAT ABOUT TURNING IN FRONT OF TRAFFIC AND LOSING POWER OR STALLING?
CAR LOST POWER AND STARTED SHAKING. IT WOULD ONLY GO 10 MPH. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND FOUND TWO OF THE IGNITION COILS WERE BROKEN. DEALER WOULD ONLY FIX THE BROKEN ONES BECAUSE VW WON'T FIX ALL FOUR, EVEN THOUGH HE ADMITTED THE OTHERS WOULD PROBABLY BREAK.
IGNITION COIL PACK FAILED, RESULTING IN GREATLY REDUCED POWER. WOULD HAVE BEEN DANGEROUS HAD I BEEN IN TRAFFIC. I UNDERSTAND THAT FREQUENTLY THEY FAIL IN MULTIPLES ON THIS PARTICULAR ENGINE, DISABLING THE CAR COMPLETELY. *JB
CONSUMER STATES WHEN SLOWING FOR A STOP IT FEELS LIKE SOMEONE HAS JUST REAR ENDED CONSUMER, CONSUMER HAS TO HOLD FOOT ON BRAKE TO KEEP CAR FROM TAKING OFF. NLM
I PURCHASED THIS CAR FOR MY DAUGHTER. THE MAJOR PROBLEMS ARE COMPLAINTS OF HAVING TROUBLE STOPPING. I WAS CONCERNED SO I DROVE IT AND IMMEDIATELY I HEARD A GRINDING NOISE AND FELT A VIBRATION WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL FIRESTONE TIRE AND THEY FELT THE VIBRATION AND HEARD THE GRINDING NOISE BUT THE BRAKE PADS LOOKED GOOD SO THEY ADVISED ME TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER, AS IT WAS PROBABLY A WARRANTY ISSUE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY CHARGED ME $37.00 TO TELL ME THAT THE ROTORS WERE WARPED AND IT'S NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. I WAS ADVISED VW IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM. (WHY CHARGE ME $37.00 FOR A PROBLEM THAT (THEY KNOW) THEY HAVE?). HOW CAN THIS HAPPEN ON A BRAND NEW CAR THAT DOESN'T EVEN NEED IT'S FIRST SET OF BRAKE PADS? I AM STILL NOT SURE WHAT TO MAKE OF THE BRAKING PROBLEM. THE ROTORS WERE JUST DISCOVERED BECAUSE I WAS COMPLAINING OF A BRAKING PROBLEM. *JB SECONDLY,WHILE DRIVING, THE CAR JERKS BACK AND FORTH AND SOMETIMES JOLTS. I AM CONCERNED AS TO WHAT THIS COULD BE. DRIVING @ A BELOW AVG. SPEED 3 SIDE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED W/O ANY SORT OF IMPACT. THERE WAS NO VISIBLE DAMAGE (I HAVE PICS) TO THE BODY OF MY BRAND NEW CAR (W/LESS THAN 2500 MLS) THE UTTERLY RANDOM DEPLOYMENT OF THESE AIRBAGS IS ENOUGH TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT ON ITS OWN. FORTUNATLY, THAT WASN'T THE CASE HERE- BUT IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL SOMEBODY DIES. HOPEFULLY YOUR ESTABLISHMENT CAN PERSUADE VW TO GIVE THIS 'MAJOR DEFECT' THE ATTENTION THAT IT NEEDS! TL*-THE CONTACT TOOK THE 2002 VOLKSWAGEN GLS WAGON 1.8 TURBO WITH FAILURE MILEAGE: 6,261 TO THE DEALERSHIP DUE TO PROBLEMS DEALING WITH THE AIR BAG INDICATOR. THE TECHNICIAN AT THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THERE WAS NO PARTICULAR PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THEY HAVE CONTINUED TO DIAGNOSE THE CONTACTS VEHICLE. HE PAID A GREAT DEAL OF MONEY FOR THE SERVICE. THE DEALERSHIP TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THERE MAY BE AN AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT PROBLEM, BUT THE TECHNICIAN WAS NOT SURE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT EVER SINCE NOVEMBER 9, 2001 THE AIRBAG INDICATOR REMAINED ILLUMINATED ON HIS DASHBOARD. HE REPORTED THIS PROBLEM TO VOLKSWAGEN NUMEROUS TIMES, BUT THEY HAVE NOT OFFERED HIM ANY EXPLANATION FOR THE PROBLEM. THE CURRENT MILEAGE OF THE CONTACTS VEHICLE WAS 82,500 MILES.*AK
FRONT BUMPER COVER FIBER GOT CAUGHT ON TREE AND SNATCHED IT OFF. CONSUMER'S CONCERN IS THAT BUMPER COULD CATCH UNDER FRONT WHEELS AND CAUSE VEHICLE TO FLIP OVER. VOLKSWAGEN SHOWED NO CONCERN TO CONSUMERS ISSUES.*AK
ELECTRICAL PROBLEM, COOLANT LEAKED IN MECHANICAL SYSTEM, CAUSING LOSS OF POWER. REQUIRING REWIRING OF ENTIRE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. *BF THE COIL SPRING FAILED WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO HAVE NO POWER, THE DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW FAILED, THE CONSUMER DID HOWEVER RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE REGARDING THE MATTER, BUT THE PROBLEM HAD ALREADY OCCURRED. THE REAR PASSENGER TAIL LIGHT WAS OUT. *JB
WHEN APPLYING BRAKES AT 65MPH BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR, RESULTING IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
SEAT'S MATERIAL IS DETERIORATING, AND IF USING A SEAT COVER IT WILL BE COVERING SIDE AIR BAGS.*AK
I HAD BOTH THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW AND THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW FALL INTO THE DOOR FRAME WITHIN A MATTER OF MONTHS. BOTH TIMES THE WINDOWS WERE FIXED, HOWEVER, THEY WERE RELUCTANT TO FIX THE PROBLEM AS IF IT HAD BEEN MY FAULT. I HAVE A SMALL CHILD AND I DON'T THINK HE APPRECIATES ASPHYXIATION FROM SO MUCH WIND IN HIS FACE ON THE LONG DRIVES TO THE DEALER TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS JUST ONE OF THE PROBLEMS ON THIS CAR, THE CLUTCH GETS STUCK (REPAIRED TWICE), THE SUNROOF TRIM BROKE OFF AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, THE ENGINE MAKES A RATTLING NOISE WHEN SHIFTING (FIXED TWICE), STEREO SYSTEM SWALLOWED MY CD (TWICE BEFORE NEW SYSTEM INSTALLED), AND AIR CONDITIONING RELEASES AN AWFUL MOLDY SMELL WHEN TURNED ON WHICH DEALER REFUSES TO ATTEMPT TO FIX. BOUGHT CAR IN VALENCIA VOLKSWAGEN IN VALENCIA, CA. SOLUTION SIMPLE, TRADED IN MY 1YR OLD CAR FOR A BETTER CAR, ONE THAT WORKS! *JB
CONSUMER HAD A MINOR ACCIDENT WHICH CAUSED MINOR DAMAGE TO THE FRONT SPOILER ON THE DRIVERS SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. SIX(6) HOURS LATER, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG EXPLODED. VOLKSWAGEN SERVICE DEPT. COUOLD NOT EXPLAIN WHY IT HAPPENED. *JG

SAFETY RECALL 1999-2002 JETTA BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH CUSTOMER IS VERY UPSET AND WANTS HIS MONEY BACK FOR THE PART AND INSTALLATION**NAR**CC *JB
2002 JETTA WITH A SAFETY RECALL- REPLACED BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH CUSTOMER STATES THAT THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO FIXED THE RECALL**CC THE VW SERVICE CENTER AND CUSTOMER CARE INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY HAD NO OBLIGATIONS TO PAY FOR TOWING OR ANY OTHER COST ASSOCIATED WITH THE VEHICLE, INCLUDING THE LAST RECALL REGARDING THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH THAT THE CONSUMER HAS REPLACED ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE CONSUMERS DAUGHTER HAD EXPERIENCED THE VEHICLE LOCKING UP AS A RESULT OF THE DEFECTIVE BRAKE SWITCH. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILED AND THE CONSUMERS DAUGHTER WAS UNABLE TO READ THE PANEL. THE CONSUMER STATED IN THE PAST, THE TRUNK LATCH FAILED AS WELL AS A BROKEN BOLT ON THE TRANSMISSION, THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BELT AND THE EGR ALL HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE DOOR LATCH FAILED BECAUSE THE LOCK SIGNAL WAS NOT WORKING. *JB THE CONSUMER STATED THAT HE RECEIVED A RECALL FOR HIS DAUGHTER'S VEHICLE, THIS IS THE 3RD BRAKE SWITCH NOT TO MENTION OVER $800 IN UNWARRANTED CHARGES FROM THE DEALERSHIP. THE CONSUMER STATED HE WAS HOPING THAT THIS CLASSIFIES THE VEHICLE AS A LEMON. THE CONSUMER STATED WOULD LIKE DEALERSHIP TO REVIEW THE OVER CHARGES OR BUYING THE VEHICLE BACK. *TR

CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR RECALL 02 V 031 000 REPAIRS, HOWEVER DEALER DID NOT HONOR RECALL LETTER. DEALER REFUSED TO HONOR RECALL BECAUSE OF AFTER MARKET ITEMS IN VEHICLE.*AK.CONSUMER STATED HE REPLACED THE CD PLAYER WITH AN AFTER MARKET CD PLAYER, CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WOULD BE A CHARGE TO ANALYZE THE ABS.*JB
WHILE DRIVING INTO A PARKING LOT AREA AND ATTEMPTING TO STOP, THE BRAKES FAILED. CONSUMER COULD NOT PUSH THE PEDAL DOWN. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE WENT OVER A METAL FENCE, DOWN TO LOWER LEVEL AND LANDED ON TWO OTHER VEHICLES CAUSING HEAVY DAMAGE. DEALER STATED NOTHING IS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE UNLESS IT IS AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM WHICH WILL BE HARD TO DIAGNOSE. *TT
THIS IS FOLLOW-UP TO A TELEPHONE COMPLAINT FILED 5/13/02 . I WAS TOLD BY CAROLYN THAT I WOULD BE RECEIVING A FORM IN THE MAIL TO SIGN. IT HAS BEEN NEARLY 2 WEEKS AND I HAVEN'T HEARD FROM ANYONE. THE DEALER REFUSED TO HONOR THE RECALL #02V031000 FREE OF CHARGE. THEY CLAIM THAT I HAVE TO PAY $78.00 FOR THEM TO CUT A "K-WIRE" SINCE THE ORIG. RADIO WAS REPLACED WITH A CD PLAYER/RADIO. THE SERVICE MANAGER (ERIC AXFORD) CONFIRMED THIS ON 5/13. I THEN CALLED VOLKSWAGON OF AMERICA WHERE I WAS TOLD BY KARI STADLER THAT THE DEALER COULD CHARGE FOR THE "FREE OF CHARGE" RECALL. THAT IS WHEN I FILED THE COMPLAINT WITH YOU. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT IS BEING DONE I WHEN I CAN EXPECT THE RECALL TO BE HONORED. THANKS. *AK
IN DEC. 01 THE BRAKE AND ABS PANEL LIGHTS CAME ON. THE CAR MANUAL SAID TO TAKE TO MECHANIC IMMEDIATELY. I HAVE RELOCATED FROM NJ WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR TO V.I. I WAS TOLD BY SALESMAN, GARY, THAT VOLKSWAGEN WOULD COVER WARANTY EXPENSES JUST SEND RECEIPT. WHEN I CALLED VW ABOUT THE PROBLEM I WAS TOLD TO SHIP THE CAR TO PR WHICH WOULD COST ME $1600. THE PROPERTY DAMAGE FIGURE I CAN'T AFFORD THE PR DEALER IS THE CLOSEST I SPOKE TO THEM THEY SAID MASTER BRAKE CONTROL UNIT OR THE LA BOMBA NEED REPLACEMENT COST $600 DOLLARS AND 400 RESPECTIVELY. THEY SAID PERHAPS THEY WOULD SEND MECHANIC IF I PAID TRANSPORTATION AND ROOM. IF THE PARTS SPECIAL TOOLS (LOANED) AND INSTRUCTIONS ARE SENT MY MECHANIC COULD DO THE JOB. WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS? THE CONSUMER RENTED A VEHICLE FOR TWO DAYS WHILE HER VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED FOR A RECALL ON THE ABS ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT, THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A REIMBURSEMENT CHECK BUT IT WAS NOT FOR THE FULL AMOUNT PAID, THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT VOLKSWAGEN ONLY REIMBURSED $25 A DAY FOR RENTAL VEHICLES, THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THIS WAS NEVER DISCLOSED TO HER AND SHE IS SEEKING THE REMAINDER OF THE MONEY FOR REIMBURSEMENT. *NLM

ON A VERY COLD NIGHT, I PULLED OUT OF A PARKING LOT AS NORMAL WHEN THE CAR LOSS ACCELERATION AND THE ENGINE LIGHT STARTED FLASHING. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO VW DEALER FOR REPAIRS. VW SERVICED THE CAR UNDER WARRANTY AND REPLACED THE FAULTY IGNITION COIL. MY RESEARCH OF THE ISSUE ONLINE, HOWEVER, IMPLIES THAT THE REMAINING ORIGINAL IGNITION COILS IN THE ENGINE ARE ALSO LIKELY TO FAIL AND VW WILL NOT REPLACE THEM UNTIL THEY ACTUALLY FAIL. THERE WAS A WIDESPREAD SAFETY ISSUE OF THE PASSAT AND AUDI. THE VOLKSWAGEN DEALER MANUFACTURER ADMITTED THAT ALL 4 IGNITION COILS IN THESE VEHICLE'S WERE SUSCEPTIBLE TO FAILURE AND ARE LIKELY TO FAIL UNLESS THE PART IS REPLACED WITH NON DEFECTIVE COILS. DESPITE THIS ADMISSION, NEITHER VOLKSWAGEN OR THE CONSUMER'S DEALER WILL TAKE THE STEPS TO REMEDY, UNLESS FAILURE OCCURS. AT WHICH TIME, ONLY THE FAILED COIL WILL BE REPLACED, LEAVING THE VEHICLE SUSCEPTIBLE TO FAILURE THREE OR MORE TIMES. SCC *JB

LEFT REAR TIRE ON A 2002 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA SEPARATED WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH WITH ONLY THE DRIVER. NO INJURIES OR OTHER DAMAGES WERE REPORTED AT THIS TIME (ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT, TIRE SIZE IS LS-195/65R15 & THE DOT # M6AEHTDR0202) DEALER WAS NOT NOTIFIED AT THIS TIME. WHEN THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKE, THE PEDAL "SHOT" ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, WHICH LEFT THE VEHICLE WITH NO BRAKING ABILITY. THE PEDAL EVENTUALLY RECOVERED AND CONSUMER PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT FOR SAFETY. WHILE PARKING, THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES AGAIN AND THE PEDAL "SHOT" TO THE FLOOR A SECOND TIME. DEALER HAD NOT BEEN ABLE TO DUPLICATE OR DETERMINE CAUSE. *AK THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. ON THE WAY HOME, THE PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN WHILE IN TRAFFIC AND TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT, THE CONSUMER RAN INTO THE DITCH. *SCC *JB
