UNSATISFACTORY RESOLUTION TO NHTSA RECALL NO.: 16V-913 HTTPS://STATIC.NHTSA.GOV/ODI/RCL/2016/RCLRPT-16V913-3524.PDF THE PROPOSED RESOLUTION TO THIS RECALL IS UNSATISFACTORY. HOW CAN IS IT ASSURED THAT IF A MODULE PASSES THE LOAD TEST THE PCU GROUND CONNECTION WILL NOT FAIL AT A FUTURE TIME? THE FAILURE REPORTEDLY OCCURS JUST WHEN THE ABS/ESP/STEERING SYSTEM IS NEEDED MOST TO MAINTAIN VEHICLE CONTROL. IF THIS WAS A KNOWN MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND THE ABS CONTROL MODULE WAS REPLACED BY AN UPDATED MODULE WITH PROPER SOLDERING THEN ALL VEHICLES PRODUCED WITH THIS MANUFACTURING DEFECT SHOULD RECEIVE AN UPDATED MODULE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AT 800-822-8987 AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE MODULE COULD NOT BE UPDATED BECAUSE THERE WERE FAULT CODES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND A CASE NUMBER WAS NOT PROVIDED. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
ABS RECALL - I JUST RECEIVED MY RECALL FOR THE JETTA STATING THE ABOVE PROBLEM AND REMEDY. BUT I DON'T THE ONE PARAGRAPH IN MY LETTER ABOVE STATING "PLEASE BE AWARE THAT OTHER CONDITIONS (UNRELATED TO THE ISSUE DESCRIBED IN THIS LETTER) MAY CAUSE THE ABS SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT IN YOUR VEHICLE TO ILLUMINATE. CUSTOMERS SHOULD BE PREPARED TO COVER DIAGNOSTICS AND REPAIR COSTS ASSOCIATED WITH THESE OTHER, UNRELATED CONDITIONS"....REALLY! ARE YOU FKM! I'M SUPPOSED TO TRUST THEM WHEN THEY TELL ME...."WERE SORRY SIR, BUT YOUR PROBLEM IS NOT RELATED TO THE RECALL AND THE REPAIR WILL COST YOU $650.00, THANK YOU" HAHA, VOLKSWAGEN IS JUST TRYING TO RECOUP THE MONEY THEY LOST TO THE TDI SCAM. NEVER SEEN SUCH A MISCHIEVOUS RECALL IN MY LIFE! I HAVE BEEN HAVING THIS PROBLEM FOR YEARS NOW, RAIN OR SNOW. IF I TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON IT SEAMS OK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED AND WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE BRAKES DID NOT PULSATE. THE BRAKES LOCKED UP AND THEN STOPPED THE VEHICLE. THE "ABS" MESSAGE APPEARED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS MODULE FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE ALL OF A SUDDEN STARTS TO BEEP AND THE ABS LIGHT, EPC LIGHT, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, BRAKE LIGHT, AND SKID CONTROL LIGHT SHOW. THE VEHICLE SOMETIMES LOSES THE SPEEDOMETER READING WHICH DROPS TO 0. THIS SPORADICALLY HAPPENS, SOMETIMES IT'LL STAY FOR DAYS AND OTHER TIMES IT'LL GO AWAY AFTER 10 MINUTES AND NOT APPEAR AGAIN FOR A DAY OR TWO. IT SEEMS TO BE HAPPENING MORE AND MORE FREQUENTLY. IT HAPPENS WHEN IN MOTION AND WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE. THIS MAKES IT VERY DIFFICULT TO DRIVE SINCE THE SPEEDOMETER MALFUNCTIONS AND IN THE SNOW THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO HANDLE WORSE THAN USUAL AND THE BRAKE SYSTEM DOES NOT KICK IN EVERY TIME. THE ABS MODULE SEEMS TO BE MALFUNCTIONING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE WOULD START TO DECELERATE WHEN DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE INSTRUMENT PANEL LIGHTS ALL ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE BRAKES WOULD MAKE A SQUEAKING NOISE. THE ABS, THE BRACKET AND ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INCLUDED IN A MANUFACTURERS RECALL WHERE THE ABS CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE NEEDED TO BE UPDATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS MODULE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V913000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL). THE TECHNICIAN REFUSED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE MODULE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED BEFORE THE REMEDY COULD BE PERFORMED. THE CONTACT STATED THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA WOLFSBURG 2.0TSI TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER FAILURE. AT 109K MILES THE CAR WOULD NOT START IN THE AM TO GO TO WORK. THIS HAPPENED ON 12/23/16. HAD CAR TOWED TO DEALER AND RECEIVED PHONE CALL FROM SERVICE DEPARTMENT THAT THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER HAD FAILED. THE ENGINE WILL NEED BETWEEN $3600 AND $5500 TO REPLACE THE ENGINE COMPONENTS. I WAS TOLD BY THE SERVICE TECH TO CALL VW CUSTOMER CARE BECAUSE THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE AND THEY MAY HELP WITH THE REPAIRS. VW TOLD ME THEY KNEW NOTHING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. GOT A SECOND OPINION FROM A MECHANIC THAT WAS PREVIOUSLY EMPLOYED BY VW AND HE VERIFIED THE DIAGNOSIS. THE CAR IS STILL SITTING IN MY DRIVEWAY WITHOUT BEING REPAIRED. I HAVE SINCE FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY LARGE ISSUE THAT GOES BACK TO THE 2008 MODEL YEAR. THERE ARE SEVERAL CLASS ACTION LAWSUITS PERTAINING TO THIS ISSUE. ONE CASE FILED IN NEW JERSEY IN MAY 2016 HAS JUST HAD ANOTHER HEARING ON MAY 9TH 2017 WHERE THE SUPREME COURT OF NJ HAS AGREED TO LET THE CASE GO FORWARD STATING THERE IS ENOUGH EVIDENCE SHOWING VW AT FAULT. I HAVE DOCUMENTATION FROM THE DEALER AND CAN PROVIDE THAT ONCE I AM BACK AT MY HOME. ANY HELP THE MANY CONSUMERS THAT OWN VW AND AUDI VEHICLES WITH THE 2.0TSI ENGINE FROM 2008-2013 CAN GET WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. RESEARCHING VW 2.0TSI TIMING TENSIONER ON THE INTERNET WILL BRING UP THE HUNDREDS, IF NOT MORE, OF THE PEOPLE THAT HAVE PAID UPWARDS OF $10K TO HAVE ENGINES REPAIRED ON CARS THAT HAVE AS LITTLE AS 30K MILES ON THEM. THE VW SERVICE MANUAL DOES NOT MENTION THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER NEEDING SERVICE AT A PARTICULAR MILEAGE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA SPORTWAGEN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPEEDOMETER FAILED WITHOUT WARNING. IN ADDITION, THE ABS INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE FUEL MILEAGE SENSOR FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS MODULE FAILED, AND THE ABS CORD WAS BURNED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V913000 (ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 71,000.
THE HEATED SEAT BURNED A HOLE IN THE SEAT. THE INTERIOR OF THE SEAT SOUNDS AND FEELS THAT IT HAS MELTED AND HAS BECOME HARD. THIS IS ON THE SEAT BACK. WE ARE UNSURE WHEN THIS BURNING OCCURRED, BUT HAVE NOTED BELOW WHEN WE NOTICED THIS DAMAGE.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
VOLKSWAGEN ABS STABILITY ISSUES... THIS ISSUES STARTED IN THE END OF DECEMBER 2016 WHEN I STARTED TO DRIVE IT TO TAKE MY SON TO WORK ALL OF A SUDDEN EVERY LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD WHEN I STARTED IT MY CAR CAME ON AND DID NOT GO OFF I SET FOR A WHILE I REVERSED AND THE CAR STEERING WHEEL WAS HARD TO TURN. AFTER I TRIED TO REVERSE THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD WHEN OFF I STARTED TO DRIVE HALFWAY TO MY DESTINATION ALL OF THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON AND THEN THE CAR STARTED TO BECOME VERY FLIMSY. I PULLED OVER TURN THE CAR OFF I TURN THE CAR BACK ON ALL THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON AND THEN THEY WENT OFF AGAIN BY THE TIME I GOT TO MY DESTINATION I TURN THE CAR OFF AND SAT AND CALLED THE VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO GO BACK TO WHERE I JUST GOT MY TIRES DONE BECAUSE MAYBE IT WAS JUST A SENSOR. AT THIS TIME I COULD NOT FIND A TOWING COMPANY I STARTED THE CAR BACK THE LIGHTS WENT AWAY I TRIED TO DRIVE TOWARDS THE MECHANIC I PREVIOUSLY USED THE LIGHTS CAME BACK ON I DROVE SLOW WITH MY HAZARD LIGHTS ON PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE CALL THE MECHANIC THEY TOLD ME TO TRY TO MAKE IT DOWN TO THEIR SHOP. AT THE RYMAN TO THE SHOP THEY CHECKED OVER THE CAR AND SAID IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE AND THE DASHBOARD MODULE. I CALLED THE MECHANIC AT THE VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP IN UNION CITY GEORGIA THEY INSTRUCTED ME TO TRY TO BRING IT UP TO THEM AFTER BRINGING IT TO THEM THEY SAID SAD THAT I NEEDED TO GET A ELECTRICAL MODULE REPAIRED AND SOMETHING ELSE AND MY TOTAL WAS GOING TO BE $3,200. I WAS NOT ABLE TO GET IT DONE ON THAT DAY THEY ASKED ME WHETHER I COULD PURCHASE ANOTHER VEHICLE EXCHANGE THAT ONE OR TRY TO FIND A LOWER PRICE AND THEY WILL MATCH IT. I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO DO NEITHER. I NOW FIND OUT THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS A RECALL NO ONE IS CONTACT ME I ACCIDENTALLY FOUND OUT ON MY TELEPHONE WATCHING THE NEWS.

IN ADDITION, THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS MODULES FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT YET GIVEN THE APPROVAL FOR THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V913000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL). THE DEALER PROVIDED THE CONTACT WITH A LOANER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DID NOT KNOW IF THE DEALER WOULD UPDATE THE ABS CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE AND REPLACE THE ABS MODULES. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT PROVIDED A REASONABLE SOLUTION. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 147,000. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.
WIFE WENT OUTSIDE TO START HER TDI AND AFTER SITTING AND MAKING NO PROGRESS IN WARMING AND SMELLING A LOT OF UN-BURNT DIESEL SHE DECIDED TO SHUT IT OFF. AFTER SHE CAME INSIDE AND TOLD ME IT WAS NOT WARMING UP AND IT SEEMED TO BE RUNNING OUT OF FUEL VERY QUICKLY I WENT OUTSIDE TO CHECK IT OUT. I COULD SEE THAT DIESEL HAD LEAKED ONTO THE GROUND, SO I OPENED THE HOOD AND FUEL WAS DRIPPING FROM THE ENGINE MOUNTED FUEL PUMP. I LEFT IT OVERNIGHT AT THIS POINT TO MAKE SURE NO FIRES WHERE STARTED. THE NEXT MORNING I TOOK IT APART TO FIND OUT WHAT THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK AND AFTER REMOVING THE PUMP, ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL, AND RUBBER LINES I SAW THE END OF THE PUMP HAD POPPED OUT OF ITS CRIMPED ALUMINUM CASE. THIS WAS ALLOWING DIESEL TO LEAK PAST THE RUNNING ELECTRIC PUMP AND ONTO THE RUNNING ENGINE WHICH AT THE POINT OF TURNING IT OFF HAD COVERED THE ENTIRE SERPENTINE SIDE OF THE ENGINE COMPLETELY IN FUEL. IT WAS A BOSCH PART #1K0 906 098A WE HAVE CONTACTED VW ABOUT THIS AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE IN EITHER OFFERING TO INVESTIGATE THE LEAK OR EXPEDITING THE BUYBACK PROCESS TO REMOVE THIS VEHICLE FROM THE ROADS AND MY DRIVEWAY KNOWING THAT IT LEAKED FUEL. VW DID ACKNOWLEDGE A PRIOR RECALL ON A RUBBER FUEL SUPPLY LINE HAD BEEN PERFORMED BEFORE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED. *TR
ABS ESP BRAKE STEERING WHEEL WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATE AND BEEP AT ANY TIME WHILE DRIVING OR WHEN IGNITION KEY IS ON POSITION. *TR
THE CAR WAS DRIVEN A SHORT 7 MILES AND PARKED FOR 2.5 HOURS IN 28F WEATHER. UPON STARTING TO RETURN THE SMELL OF FUEL WAS NOTICEABLE. UPON DRIVING THE SMELL DID NOT DISSIPATE AND SEEMED QUITE INTENSE. THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED AFTER ABOUT MILE OF SLOW IN-TOWN TRAVEL AND ON A HUNCH THE TOP ENGINE COVER WAS REMOVED. FUEL WAS FOUND TO BE ALL OVER THE TOP OF THE ENGINE IN THE AREA OF THE INJECTOR LINES. THE RECALL WORK (11V490000) FOR THESE LINES WAS DONE YEARS AGO. THE CAR IS CURRENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP AWAITING EVALUATION BUT I CAN'T HELP WONDER IF THEIR RECALL WORK WAS NOT FULLY SUCCESSFUL AT PREVENTING THE FUEL LEAK IT WAS MEANT TO. *TR
MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS ON DASHBOARD, ABS, TRACTION CONTROL AND BRAKE LIGHTS ALONG WITH 3 AUDIBLE BEEPS. ABS SYSTEM NO LONGER FUNCTIONING ALONG WITH TRACTION CONTROL. MECHANIC HAS INDICATED THERE IS A KNOWN DEFECT WITH THE ABS MODULE IN THIS MODEL YEAR AND JUST WITHIN THE LAST WEEK VW HAS ISSUED A PARTIAL RECALL BUT HAS NOT EXPANDED TO INCLUDE ALL VEHICLES. REPAIR COSTS ARE OVER $2000.

THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V913000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS INTERMITTENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 109,000.
ON JUNE 22, 2016, WHILE DRIVING ON A WINDING ROAD THE ABS/ESC LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND FLASHED. THEY WENT AWAY WHEN THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. THEN, ON NOVEMBER 15, 2016, I MADE A DEFENSIVE DRIVING MANEUVER AFTER BEING CUT OFF BY ANOTHER CAR. I WAS DRIVING APPROX 60 MPH ON THE FREEWAY AND APPLIED THE BRAKES QUICKLY TO AVOID HITTING THE OTHER CAR. THE BRAKES LOCKED UP CAUSING THE CARE TO SKID. THE CAR BEGAN TO FISHTAIL AND LOSE CONTROL. I WAS UNABLE TO STEER PROPERLY AND THE ABS SYSTEM NEVER ENGAGED. THE CAR SPUN AND DID 180 DEGREE TURN SLAMMING INTO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY WALL CAUSING OVER $4000 IN DAMAGE TO THE CAR. AFTER THE CRASH THE ABS/ESC CAUTION LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED AND FLASHING. THE LIGHTS WENT AWAY WHEN THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED. THEN ON JAN. 5 2017, DURING ADVERSE WEATHER CONDITIONS (SNOW PACKED ROADS), MY CAR SLID OFF THE FREEWAY AND BECAME STUCK. I HAD TO REQUEST EMERGENCY ROAD SIDE SERVICES TO PULL ME OUT. I WAS TRAVELING UNDER 10 MPH AND THE ABS SYSTEM FAILED TO ENGAGE. ONCE AGAIN THE ABS AND ESC WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED TURNING OFF WHEN THE CAR WAS RESTARTED. ALL OF THESE INCIDENTS APPEAR TO BE DIRECTLY RELATED TO THE RECENT RECALL NOTICE FOR THE ABS CONTROL MODULE FAILURE.
FEB 2014 HEADLIGHTS AND BRAKELIGHTS WERE OUT...FUSE PLATE AND PLUG WAS REPLACE AT DEALERSHIP . NO CHARGE. SINCE THEN I CONSTANLY HAD TO REPLACE HEADLIGHTS AND BRAKE LIGHT BULBS. NOVEMBER 2016..HEADLIGHTS AND BRAKE LIGHT WONT COME ON EVEN WOTH BULBS CHANGE.TOOK TO DEALERSHIP..STATES I NEED NEW FUSE BOX..CALL VW CUSTOMER CARE..I HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET...THIS LIGHTING ISSUE BEEN A NUISANCE FOR TWO YEARS.
DURING NORMAL DRIVING OF THE VEHICLE, IT HAD MANY DASH LIGHTS TURN ON SIMULTANEOUSLY, INCLUDING ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, BRAKE (EVEN THOUGH EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS NOT ENGAGED), EPC, AND POWER STEERING. THE GAS GAUGE DROPPED TO ZERO INTERMITTENTLY AND THE SPEEDOMETER DROPPED TO 0 WHILE THE CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN AT AROUND 25MPH. ON THE SHORT DRIVE HOME, THE CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE AND LOST POWER STEERING. THE ISSUE HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED AS THE ABS MODULE NEEDING REPLACED FOR OVER $2000. THE CAR HAS APPROXIMATELY 85K MILES ON IT, AND THIS PART SHOULD LAST THE LIFETIME OF THE CAR. THANKFULLY, THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT INVOLVED LIKE SOME OF THE OTHER COMPLAINTS. IF THIS HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. BEYOND THE COMPLAINTS WITH THE NHTSA, THERE ARE COUNTLESS OTHER DRIVERS ON VW FORUMS OF JETTA AND OTHER MODELS FROM 2009 WITH THE SAME ISSUE.

NOTICED SMOKE BETWEEN HOOD AND WINDSHIELD. PAINT ON HOOD BUBBLED IN APPROXIMATE LOCATION ABOVE OIL CAP / DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER. SHUT ENGINE OFF AND EXITED THE VEHICLE.
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, I HAD TO STOP QUICKLY DUE TO POSSIBLE IMPACT WITH A CAR WHICH RAN A RED LIGHT. MY ABS KICKED IN TO PREVENT WHEEL LOCK UP AND SUDDENLY ESP/ABS LIGHTS CAME ON ALONG WITH 3 LOUD BEEPS AND MY WHEELS LOCKED UP. UPON PERFORMING A ABS/ESP SCAN FOR FAULTS, IT INDICATED A INTERNAL FAILURE OF THE ABS CONTROL MODULE. TURNING THE CAR ON AND OFF RESETS THE LIGHTS AND ABS FUNCTION IS RESTORED, BUT IF YOU ATTEMPT TO DO ANOTHER PANIC STOP- ALL THE LIGHTS COME ON AND ANTI-LOCK BRAKES DO NOT FUNCTION- BRAKES LOCK UP.

THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A FUEL STATION AND LATER TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS MODULE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,120.
THE FAILURE THAT OCCURRED WAS WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, ON A CITY STREET, ALMOST ALL THE INDICATOR LIGHTS TURNED ON (BRAKE, ABS, CHECK ENGINE, AND STABILITY CONTROL) AND THE FUEL AND SPEEDOMETER GAUGES WENT OUT. AFTER PULLING OVER AND RESTARTING THE CAR, IT SEEM TO OPERATE OK, BUT THEN EVERYTHING LIT UP AGAIN. I PULLED OVER ON A SIDE STREET TO TEST THE BRAKES AND IT SEEMED TO BRAKE "NORMAL" WITHOUT ENGAGING THE ABS. IT SEEM LIKE THE CAR OPERATES WITHOUT ABS, STABILITY CONTROL, THE SPEEDOMETER, AND FUEL GAUGE.
IGNITION KEY TUMBLER WILL NOT TURN. CANNOT START VEHICLE AND OTHER TIMES THE ENGINE CANNOT BE TURNED OFF. ONLY BUY LUCK WAS ABLE TO EVENTUALLY TURN VEHICLE OFF. NO OTHER OPTION AVAILABLE TO SHUT DOWN VEHICLE ENGINE IF THIS PROBLEM EXPERIENCED.
I AM REQUESTING THAT THE DOT NHTSA INVESTIGATE THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER IN THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF CAR. I STARTED MY CAR ONE MORNING AND THE ENGINE MADE A METALLIC RATTLING SOUND AS I PROCEEDED TO BACK OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON UNTIL REACHING THE END OF THE DRIVEWAY. CAR WAS THEN DRIVEN TO DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY AND DIAGNOSED AS HAVING "JUMPED TIME" DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER. UPON PICKING UP THE CAR SEVERAL DAYS LATER AFTER THE REPAIRS WERE COMPLETE, THE SERVICE ADVISOR INFORMED US THAT THE METAL RING HOLDING THE TENSIONER LATCH IN PLACE HAD FALLEN OFF; ALLOWING THE TINY ADJUSTABLE LATCH TO FALL OUT, AND THAT BOTH PIECES WERE LYING, LOOSE, IN THE COMPARTMENT WHEN THE CAR WAS TAKEN APART. THIS FAILURE APPEARS TO BE RELATED TO TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN 15-12-01. A WEB SEARCH REVEALS THAT THIS PROBLEM HAS BECOME MORE AND MORE COMMON AND AFFECTS MULTIPLE YEARS AND MODELS OF VOLKSWAGEN AUTOMOBILES. THE CAR HAD APPROXIMATELY 49,000 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE AND NEVER MISSED A SERVICE. VW WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2009 JETTA AFTER IT WAS LISTED IN THE NHTSA ARTICLE "SAFEST USED CARS FOR TEENS." WISH I HADN'T. VW HAS A PROBLEM WITH THEIR ABS MODULES FAILING UNEXPECTEDLY, BUT IT IS NOT A RECALL ISSUE. MY ANTI-LOCKS FAILED TODAY AS I ATTEMPTED TO AVOID A VEHICLE NEARLY SIDE SWIPING ME ON AN URBAN INTERSTATE DURING DAYTIME TRAFFIC. THIS CAUSED ME TO SPIN ABOUT 180 DEGREES AND CAN'T BELIEVE I WASN'T T-BONED. THIS VEHICLE SHOULD BE TAKEN OFF OF THAT LIST, AND NOT BE RECOMMENDED AS A SAFE VEHICLE FOR TEENS.
WE WENT TO REPLACE A KEY AND REMOTE ON THIS CAR AND WHEN THEY WENT TO "PROGRAM" IT THEY SAID THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO AS BOTH THE FRONT DRIVERS SIDE DOOR ACTUATOR AND REAR DRIVERS SIDE DOOR ACTUATOR WERE BOTH NON RESPONSIVE AND WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. AS A CONSEQUENCE, WE LEARNED THAT THE CAR CANNOT ACTUALLY BE LOCKED USING THE REMOTE. WE UNDERSTAND THAT SOMETIMES THIS GETS WORSE OVER TIME AND OTHER ASPECTS OF THE LOCK GO BAD -- YOU CAN'T OPEN THE TRUNK, THE REAR DOOR, ETC. NOT BEING ABLE TO LOCK OR UNLOCK YOUR DOORS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE AND ONE THAT YOU WOULD HAVE TO FIX IN ORDER TO USE THE CAR. SEVERAL PEOPLE HAVE FIXED THEIR OWN CARS AND VOLKSWAGEN IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE, BUT WON'T PROVIDE THE PART AT A DECENT PRICE. THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR IS $233.20 FOR THE FRONT DOOR AND $238.70 FOR THE REAR DOOR. AND THE LABOR IS $150 FOR EACH (INVOLVES FULLY REMOVING BOTH DOOR PANELS ETC.). THE GRAND TOTAL THE DEALERSHIP IS ASKING FOR THE REPAIR IS $833. AND THIS IS ONLY FOR 2 DOORS THAT HAVE FAILED. WE ARE ASKING THAT THE NHTSA LOOK INTO HOW MANY OF THESE ARE FAILING IN CARS UNDER 10 YEARS OLD AND LOOKING INTO WHETHER VOLKSWAGEN IS INVOLVED IN A COVER UP OF THE FAULTINESS OF THE ORIGINAL PARTS. THEY WILL NOT TELL CONSUMERS HOW MANY OF THESE FAIL OR HOW MANY THEY REPLACE. PEOPLE WHO WORK ON THEIR OWN CARS ARE REPAIRING THE PARTS THEMSELVES AND THE BLOGS ARE SAYING THAT IT IS AN ISSUE WITH THE CONTACTS INSIDE THE ACTUATOR FAILING AND NEEDING TO BE RESOLDERED.

ABS MODULE FAILED ON MY VEHICLE WITHOUT WARNING AND FOR NO APPARENT REASON AS I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 40MPH. CAR HAS ONLY DONE ABOUT 67,000 MILES. THE FAILURE OF THE PART AFFECTED NOT ONLY THE ABS ITSELF BUT THE POWER STEERING, THE GAS GAUGE AND THE SPEEDOMETER, ALL OF WHICH STARTED TO INTERMITTENTLY FAIL. THE PART COST OVER $1600 TO REPLACE AND I WAS WITHOUT A VEHICLE FOR SEVERAL DAYS AS IT TOOK THEM A LONG TIME TO REPROGRAM THE CAR. IT WOULD SEEM THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE 2009 VOLKSWAGEN AND AS THE PART IS SO EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE, VW NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS.

AFTER I'VE RESEARCHED THIS IT SEEMS THERE WAS A RECALL ON MANY CARS, #97AM, BUT SOMEHOW NOT MINE.

(ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL) + BOLD RED LINE FLASHING ACROSS DRIVE GEARS DISPLAY ALL IN ONE!!!!!! WHICH IS NOT MAKES ANY SENSE. ''. HAD TO MANEUVER OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, LUCKY WE DIDN'T GET IN AN ACCIDENT!!!! WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS WHEN IT COMES ON IT IS HARD TO STEER, ACCELERATION GOES SLOW, BEEPING HEARING TEST NOISE FREQUENTS, GAS GAUGE GOES TO E, AND SPEEDOMETER GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE END. I TOWED MY VEHICLE TO A LOCAL VW DEALERSHIP AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ABS MODULE FAILED AND CAUSED THE PROBLEMS. THE COST TO REPLACE ABS MODULE IS $2350 ($1650 ABS MODULE +$700 LABOR). THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT WHICH CAN CAUSE AN IMMEDIATE HARMFUL AFFECT IF I WAS ON A HIGHWAY OR NOT BEING CAREFUL I COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN IN A LIFE THREATENING ACCIDENT I DON'T THINK IT'S FAIR THAT CONSUMERS SHOULD ABSORB THE COST OF THIS TYPE OF REPAIR I THINK VW SHOULD SEND A RECALL IMMEDIATELY. RANDOMLY, MOST OF THE VEHICLE WARNING LIGHTS, CHECK ENGINE OR MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LIGHT, BRAKE SYSTEM, ABS, TRACTION CONTROL OR ESP, AIRBAG FAULT, APPEAR WHILE I AM USING A BRAKE FOR RED LIGHT AND DRIVING ON ANY KINDS OF ROADS. THE CARDEALER, AUTONATION, SOLD THE CAR BY ADVERTISING THAT'S WELL MAINTENANCED AND ALL CHECKED. HOWEVER, WITHIN6 MONTHS AFTER THE PURCHASE, THOSE VEHICLE WARNING LIGHTS CAME UP ON THE DISPLAY. AUTONATION SUGGESTED ME TO GO TO WOLLSWAGEN DEALER. THE MECHANIC AT THE LOCAL VOLKSWAGEN DEALER GAVE ME AN ESTIMATES FOR THE REPAIR AROUND 2,000 USD SAYING THAT ABS SYSTEM IS NOT WORKING AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BY A NEW ONE. I ASKED A HELP TO AUTONATION, BUT THE DEALER SAID THAT'S WHY VOLKSWAGEN CAR IS KNOWN AS A RISKY CHOISE. THE DEALER APPOLOZIED ME SAYING THAT HE CANNOT HELP ME. IS THERE ANY WAY TO RETURN THE CAR TO AUTONATION OR TO GET MY CAR REPAIRED BY AUTONATION?
IN APRIL OF 2016 CAR JUST HAD 6 INDICATOR LIGHTS ON DASH. JUST HAPPENED ONE DAY ON THE HIGHWAY. SPEEDOMETER, GAS GAUGE NONE OF THE DASH WORKED. RED LIGHT CONSTANT FLASHING. WE ENDED UP HAVING TO PARK IT FOR 6 MONTHS WHILE STILL PAYING 300 A MONTH CAR PAYMENT AND FULL COVERAGE INSURANCE UNTIL I HAD MONEY TO FIX IT. AROUND THE SAME TIME THE BACK PASSENGER WINDOW STOPPED WORKING AND STILL DOESN'T WORK. I GOT THIS CAR IN MARCH OF 2015 I BELIEVE. IT HAS COST ME SO MUCH MONEY AND I AM HOPING THAT I MAY BE ABLE TO GET A REIMBURSEMENT ON THE 800 I SPENT TO FIX IT, ONLY TO HAVE IT DO THIS STUFF RANDOMLY EVERY FEW MONTHS. JUST 2 WEEKS AGO I HAD TO SLAM ON THE BRAKES WHILE DRIVING AND THERE WAS A BANG SOUND AND I DROVE IT HOME. THE NEXT DAY IT DROVE TO WORK OK AND THEN ON WAY HOME WHEN IT STARTED IT IMMEDIATELY WAS RUNNING BADLY AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND ALL THAT WAS ON AGAIN. WE TOOK IT TO MECHANIC AND HE SAID THERMOSTAT WAS STUCK OPEN AND IT DID NEED A COIL AND WIRES OR SOMETHING ALSO. IT HAS BEEN JUST CONSTANT WITH THIS CAR AND I AM SPENDING A TON OF MONEY. IT'S REALLY DIFFICULT RAISING A FAMILY AND WORKING 30 MILES AWAY FROM MY HOME AND DEALING WITH THIS CONSTANTLY. OH, AND THE AIR CONDITIONER ONLY WORKS IN THE WINTER TIME. DEFINATELY NOT WHEN IDLELING. MECHANIC SAYS THAT'S A 400$ PART SO I'M JUST TRYING TO SCROUNGE UP THE MONEY TO FIX THAT PART OF THE ELECTRIC DISASTER THIS CAR IS BEFORE IT HITS 101 ON MY DAYS SITTING IN TRAFFIC. PLEASE HELP. THE DOCUMENT I HAVE TO UPLOAD IS THE RECIEPT FROM THE REPAIR. IT WAS MESSED UP FOR ALMOST A YEAR BEFORE I COULD FIX IT. MOSTLY JUST SITTING.
