CAR'S TRANSMISSION SHIFTS INTO NEUTRAL WITH NO WARNING. HAS DONE IT WHILE TURNING IN INTERSECTIONS, NEAR RAIL ROAD TRACKS, INTERSTATE CONSTRUCTION AREAS. CAR HAS TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND ENGINE BE SHUT OFF, THEN IT MAY OR MAY NOT GO, MAY HAVE TO DO MULTIPLE TIMES BEFORE CAR WILL MOVE AGAIN. FLASHES ERROR IN DASH AND TRANS LIGHT BLINKS. CAR WAS RECALLED ONCE FOR THIS ISSUE AND "FIXED" BY VW AND NOW IT IS DOING IT AGAIN. TOTAL SAFETY ISSUE AND VW IS TURNING THEIR HEADS TO IT.
THE VEHICLE IS PART OF THE VW TDI EMISSIONS SCANDAL. THE VEHICLE CURRENTLY NEEDS A DPF WHICH IS ONE OF THE PARTS AFFECTED BY THE EMISSIONS SCANDAL AND ONE THAT WILL EVENTUALLY NEED TO BE REPLACED FOR THE CAR TO MEET/PASS EMISSIONS. VW SHOULD PAY FOR THIS EXPENSIVE REPAIR NOW.
I SMELLED SOMETHING BURNING IN MY CAR FOR A LITTLE WHILE LAST NIGHT. THIS MORNING, WHEN THE SUN WAS OUT, I WAS ABLE TO SEE THAT THERE WAS A BURN MARK IN MY SEAT FROM THE SEAT WARMER.
THE ABS MODULE NEEDS TO BE RESTORE OR REPLACE. THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD THAT COMES ON INCLUDES ENGINE, BRAKES,STEERING, ABS, AND E.T.C.(ELECTRONIC THROTTLE CONTROL).WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS WHEN IT COMES ON IS IT HARD TO STEER,ACCELERATION GOES SLOW, BEEPING HEARING TEST NOISE FREQUENTS , GAS GAUGE GOES TO E, AND SPEEDOMETER STOPS WORKING. THIS HAPPENS FREQUENTLY AND DOESN'T MATTER WHAT ROAD OR HIGHWAY I'M WHAT MAKES IT MORE DANGEROUS WHEN ITS HARD TO STEEL AND THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE CONSTANTLY FLASHING.
WE HAVE BEEN HAVING AN ISSUE WITH THE ENGINE STALLING OUT WHILE DRIVING. IT STARTED WITH THE EPC LIGHT COMING ON SEVERAL MONTHS AGO, BUT THE LIGHT DOES NOT STAY ON AND THERE HAS BEEN NO CONSISTENCY TO THE OCCURRENCES. HOWEVER, NOW, THE CAR WILL STAY RUNNING FOR LONG AND STALLS OUT SHORTLY AFTER STARTING. THE EPC COMES ON SOMETIMES, BUT NOT EVERY TIME THAT IS STALLS OUT. TODAY I TOOK THE CAR FOR A DRIVE AROUND THE BLOCK, AS SOON AS I GOT IT BACK HOME, IT STALLED OUT. FROM THAT POINT ON THE CAR WOULD NOT STAY RUNNING FOR MORE THAN 15 SECONDS.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SAVANNAH VOLKSWAGEN (50 EISENHOWER DR, SAVANNAH, GA 31406, (912) 920-5455) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS CONTROL UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V913000 (SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC, ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
ENGINE FIRE IN MOTION ON THE HIGHWAY CAUSE UNKNOWN.
MY CAR HAS 146K MILES. IT IS A DIESEL. THE HIGH-PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILED WHILE IN MOTION ON 2/8/2016. VW LIMIT ON HPFP WARRANTY EXTENSION IS 120K MILES WHICH SEEMS LOW FOR A DIESEL CAR. TO REPAIR THE FUEL SYSTEM IS $5300 WHICH IS MORE THAN THE CAR IS WORTH. CALLED VW AND THEY WILL NOT OFFER ANY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE...EVEN WITH THIS CAR BEING PART OF 'DIESELGATE'. HOPING OTHER DRIVERS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM ARE COMPLAINING AND ODI CONSIDERS RE-OPENING THE REPORT. MOST OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATORS ILLUMINATED, INCLUDING THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR. SANTA MONICA VOLKSWAGEN IN SANTA MONICA, CALIFORNIA STATED THAT THE ABS MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 38,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
" TAKATA RECALL" ? MY HUSBAND WAS GOING TO WORK ONE DAY AND A DEER CAME OUT OF NOWHERE AND HIT HIM. HE WAS GOING ABOUT 30 MPH AND WAS GETTING READY TO TURN INTO WORK. WHEN THE DEER HIT HIM, THE DRIVERS SIDE AIR BAG(CURTAIN I THINK THEY CALL IT) AND DRIVERS REAR AIR BAG DEPLOYED BUT NOT THE AIRBAG DIRECTLY IN FRONT FRONT OF HIM. THE SIDE AIRBAG HIT HIM SO HARD THAT THE AIRBAG MATERIAL LEFT A MARK ON THE LEFT SIDE OF HIS NECK.(IT LOOKED LIKE A BURLAP/CANVAS MATERIAL) MY HUSBAND SUFFERED A CONCUSSION AND NOW HAS PCS AND STILL IS HAVING PROBLEMS BECAUSE OF THE AIRBAG . THE CAR IS CURRENTLY NOT RECALL FOR THE AIRBAG BUT SHOULD BE. HIS CAR WAS TOTALED
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE ABS MODULE MALFUNCTIONED AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SHIFT OUT OF GEAR. THE AFFECTED PARTS INCLUDED THE SPEEDOMETER AND THE POWER STEERING. THE SPEEDOMETER SHIFTED TO ZERO MPH WITHOUT THE ASSISTANCE OF THE DRIVER, AND THE STEERING WHEEL STIFFENED, WHICH CAUSED FURTHER DIFFICULTIES FOR THE CONTACT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THIS IS FOR A 2009 VW JETTA TDI. THE TDI OF COURSE HAS BEEN INVOLVED WITH VW ADJUSTING SOFTWARE TO COVER UP NOX EMISSIONS ON SEVERAL YEAR MODELS OF THEIR DIESEL 2.0 ENGINES. WHAT ALSO NEEDS TO BE LOOKED AT IS THE HIGH NUMBER OF FAILURES INVOLVING THE DIESEL PARTICULATE FILTER (DPF) UNITS. IT COULD BE THE SOFTWARE HAT HAS BEEN CHURNING OUT WRONG EMISSIONS READINGS COULD HAVE POSSIBLY OVERTAXED THE SOOT COLLECTION IN THIS VEHICLES AS WELL. I WOULD SUGGEST SOMEONE FROM YOUR OFFICE PERUSE FORUMS AT TDICLUB AND OTHER TDI SITES TO SEE THE NUMBER OF THESE UNITS THAT HAVE BEEN REPORTED BY MEMBERS. I HAVE NOT HAD THE FAILURE AS OF YET, BUT WANTED TO BRING THIS TO YOUR ATTENTION
VW JETTA WOLFSBURG EDITION 2009. 1. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR AUTO REPAIR SHOP OVER 5X OVER THE TIMES OVER THE PAST YEAR BECAUSE THE 'ENGINE MALFUNCTION' LIGHT WAS GOING ON/OFF INTERMITTENTLY - ON FOR 3 HOURS THEN OFF, ON FOR 2 DAYS, OFF. NOW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS PERMANENTLY ILLUMINATED ON THE DASHBOARD DESPITE MULTIPLE ENGINE AUTO REPAIR SERVICES RENDERED. 2. THE ABS AND EPS/ASR SYMBOLS ILLUMINATE AND ALARM GOES OFF RANDOMLY WITHOUT REASON WHILE I AM DRIVING 50-65MPH ON MAJOR NYC HIGHWAYS AND/OR WHEN IM DRIVING 15-35 ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET. THE EPS/ASR FLASHES CONTINUOUSLY WHILE SOUNDING AN ALARM FOR 60 SECONDS OR SO, ABS REMAINS CONSTANT LIT AND WILL CONTINUE TO DO SO UNTIL I AM ABLE TO STOP, TURN OF THE ENGINE, WAIT A MINUTE, AND THEN RESTART THE CAR. ON HIGHWAY I HAVE HAD TO DRIVE CONSIDERABLE DISTANCE WITH EMERGENCY LIGHTS FLASHING. 3. I WAS PULLED OVER BY A COP AT NIGHT BECAUSE ONE OF MY TAIL LIGHTS WAS OUT. I HAD NO IDEA THAT WAS THE CASE AND WOULD HAVE NEVER FOUND OUT BECAUSE THE "LIGHT BULB!" WARNING WAS NOT ON, AND NEVER CAME ON. I GOT IT FIXED 2 DAYS LATER, STILL NO LIGHT BULB SIGNAL, MY RIGHT TAILLIGHT WAS REPLACED. ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER THE "LIGHT BULB!" ICON ILLUMINATED, I TESTED AND ALL THE LIGHTS WERE WORKING- BUT THE 'LIGHTBULB!' REMAINED LIT. ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER THE LIGHTBULB WAS OFF. 4. THE AUX FEATURE ON MY CAR IS NO LONGER ACCESSIBLE. REPAIR SHOP BUT THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIX BECAUSE VW SPECIALITY CODE/ SYSTEM PROGRAMMING? 5. I HAVE NOTICED IT TAKES MORE EFFORT TO ENGAGE MY BRAKES WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE HAD MY CAR BRAKE PADS REPLACED AT LEAST 2X OVER THE PAST 6 YEARS (I HAVE DRIVEN ABOUT 20K MILES). ALSO NOTE - NO SYMBOL OF EMERGENCY BRAKE/ MECHANIC MAINTENANCE / WORN BRAKE PADS/ AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION/GEARBOX SYMBOL WERE ILLUMINATED DURING THIS EVENT (IN FEBRUARY 2018) AND NONE OF THESE SYMBOLS HAD ILLUMINATED TO THIS DAY (APRIL 2018).
TAKATA RECALL AIRBAG DID NOT POP OUT WHEN I WAS IN A CAR ACCIDENT WHILE DRIVE IN THE HIGHWAY IN ORLANDO FLORIDA
CAR IS EQUIPPED WITH A DSG TRANSMISSION. WHEN SHIFTING BETWEEN PARK, REVERSE, NEUTRAL & DRIVE VEHICLE'S TRANSMISSION FAILS. THERE IS A LOUD CLUNKING SOUND FOLLOWED UP BY THE PRNDS ON THE DASHBOARD ILLUMINATING AND AND CAR BEING FORCED INTO A NEUTRAL STATE. CAR HAS BEEN LOOKED AT BY SEVERAL MECHANICS. VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE MECHATRONIC UNIT. AND INDEPENDENT MECHANIC REPLACED THE DUAL MASS FLYWHEEL AS WELL. THERE IS STILL NO FIX OR CHANGE. PROBLEM STARTED AROUND 120,000 MILES.
DRIVING OF FREEWAY & SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. CAR DIED ON THE OFFRAMP & UNABLE TO START. GLOW PLUG LIGHT & BATTERY LIGHT ILLUMINATED. TOWED TO LOCAL SHOP EXPECTING AN ALTERNATOR REPAIR. THEY DIAGNOSED HPFP FAILURE. $5500 REPAIR!! THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE & SHOULD HAVE BEEN A RECALL! I RECEIVED A WARRANTY EXTENSION (10YR OR 120,000MI) LETTER JUNE 2015. MY VEHICLE IS 2009 WITH 155K MILES AT THAT TIME. MY VEHICLE HAS DEPRECIATED DUE TO THE EMISSION SYSTEM & NOW THIS.
"HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP" ADDENDUM TO COMPLAINT #10808605 PLEASE ADD TO THE PREVIOUS THAT MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME & I FAILED TO MENTION THAT WHEN THE (HPFP) FAILED HE WAS IN THE FAST LANE OF THE FREEWAY & HIS POWER WAS IMMEDIATELY STOPPED. THIS HAPPENED ON THE I10 FREEWAY EASTBOUND JUST BEFORE THE "COUNTY LINE RD" OFFRAMP IN YUCAIPA, CA. THERE WAS NO SHOULDER IN THE FAST LANE FOR HIM TO PULL OVER. HE WAS VERY FORTUNATE THAT THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC TO HIS RIGHT AS HE HAD TO MAKE IT ACROSS 2 LANES OF TRAFFIC IN AN UPHILL GRADE. THE CAR BARELY MADE IT TO THE OFFRAMP! IF THERE HAD BEEN TRAFFIC (TYPICALLY SLOW MOVING TRUCK TRAFFIC), HE WOULD HAVE BEEN TRAPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY & SURELY HIT!! IN MY PREVIOUS COMPLAINT I WAS ANGRY ABOUT VW NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE KNOWN FAILURE. WE ARE RESPONSIBLE CAR OWNERS & REGULARLY SERVICE OUR VEHICLES. I COULD UNDERSTAND HAD THIS BEEN NEGLIGENCE ON OUR PART. MY HUSBAND COMMUTES 200 MILES A DAY & WE RELY HEAVILY ON HAVING A RELIABLE VEHICLE, WHICH WE THOUGHT WE HAD IN A VW DIESEL. THEY RECOGNIZED THE DEFECT BY OFFERING A 10YR, 120,000 MILE WARRANTY EXTENSION. MIND YOU THIS IS A DIESEL ENGINE WHICH HAS A LIFE EXPECTANCY OF AT LEAST DOUBLE THIS. AT SOME POINT THIS FAILURE WAS BOUND TO HAPPEN & VW KNOWS IT. I SPOKE WITH MANY VW TECHNICIANS IN THE DIAGNOSIS OF THIS ISSUE & THEY ALL ACKNOWLEDGE THIS IS A FAULTY PART. SOME OF THE BLOGS TRY TO ALLUDE THAT POOR FUEL IS THE CAUSE, BUT THE MECHANICS DON'T AGREE.ANY ASSISTANCE YOU CAN PROVIDE IN GETTING VW TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED. THIS NOT ONLY ENDANGERED THE LIFE OF MY HUSBAND, BUT THIS IS A $5500 REPAIR!!
WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET, MY CAR BEGAN TO MAKE A RUMBLING SOUND, FOLLOWED BY A ENGINE WARNING MESSAGE TURNING ON. WITHIN A MINUTE, MY CAR DIED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. WE TOWED OUR 2009 VW JETTA SPORTWAGEN TDI TO A VW SPECIALIZED MECHANIC WHO CONFIRMED THAT THERE WERE METAL SHAVINGS IN THE FUEL SYSTEM THAT SEEMS TO BE RESULTING FROM A HPFP FAILURE. MILEAGE WAS AT 131769 AT TIME OF FAILURE. (OUTSIDE OF THE EXTENDED WARRANTY TIME PERIOD FOR THE HPFP ISSUE) 12/21/2012 TWO FAULTY REAR PASSENGER SEAT BELTS WERE REPLACED. AIRBAGS HAD NOT BEEN DEPLOYED AND CAR HAD NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT PRIOR TO SEAT BELTS BREAKING.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE BEGAN SPUN AND CRASHED INTO A WALL. THE ABS WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE COMMUNICATION TO THE ABS MODULE FAILED. THE ABS MODULE AND PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DESPITE HAVING THE SAME FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000.*BF *CN
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE AT APPROXIMATELY 2 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. AFTER WAITING A FEW HOURS, THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL CONTROL MODULE WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
HERE'S A VIDEO I MADE THAT SHOWS THE EFFECTS: HTTP://YOUTU.BE/UBG3NMSA75M I'LL JUST BE DRIVING ALONG AND SUDDENLY THE CAR WILL START BEEPING AND THE POWER STEERING WILL QUIT WORKING AND EVERY WARNING LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD WILL COME ON AT THE SAME TIME AND THE SPEEDOMETER WILL DROP TO ZERO NO MATTER WHAT SPEED I'M DRIVING AND SOMETIMES THE CAR WILL POP OUT OF GEAR WHILE I'M DRIVING 70 MILES AN HOUR ON THE FREEWAY. IT STARTED OUT INTERMITTENTLY IN 2014 AND THE DEALERSHIP COULDN'T DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. BUT THEN IT STARTED HAPPENING MORE AND MORE FREQUENTLY AND THE ISSUE COULD BE IDENTIFIED IN LATE 2015. SO NOW 2 DIFFERENT VW DEALERSHIPS HAVE TOLD ME THAT THE ISSUE IS A FAULTY ABS MODULE. IT'S CRAZY THAT AN ABS MODULE CAN SHUT DOWN SO MANY DIFFERENT SYSTEMS WHILE THE CAR IS IN MOTION. IF YOU LOOK AROUND ONLINE YOU'LL FIND IT AFFECTS SEVERAL DIFFERENT VW MODELS, AT LEAST THE JETTA AND THE GOLF, MAYBE OTHERS. MY WIFE AND I DON'T DRIVE THE CAR ANYMORE BECAUSE WE DON'T WANT TO GET IN A WRECK WHEN THE CAR JUST POPS OUT OF GEAR FOR NO REASON. BUT I BET OTHER PEOPLE HAVE BEEN HURT BY THESE FAULTY ABS MODULES AND ALL THE DANGEROUS EFFECTS THEY HAVE ON THE CAR.
I'VE HAD TO REPLACE THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS 3 TIMES WITHIN 18 MONTHS AND NOW BOTH LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS DO NOT WORK EVEN AFTER REPLACING THE BULBS. VW HAS HAD RECALLS ON OTHER VEHICLES FOR A SIMILAR PROBLEM BUT THIS MAKE AND MODEL WAS NOT INCLUDED IN PREVIOUS RECALLS. PERHAPS THE SCOPE OF THE PROBLEM IS WIDER THAN ORIGINALLY THOUGHT.
DURING NORMAL DRIVING ABS, BRAKE, AND ESC LIGHTS TURNED ON TO INFORM ME THERE'S PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM. MY VEHICLE AT THE TIME ONLY HAD AROUND 55,000 MILES. I BELIEVE THE ABS MODULE PREMATURELY MALFUNCTIONED. VW DEALER CONFIRMED A FAULTY ABS MODULE AND IT WILL COST $2,200 TO FIX IT. WHEN SEARCHING FOR RELATED ISSUES ON THE INTERNET, IF FOUND NUMEROUS SIMILAR COMPLAINTS REGARDING THE ABS FAILURE. I CAN ONLY ASSUME THAT THERE ARE MORE DRIVERS WHO HAVE EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM LIKE ME, BUT HAS NOT FILED A COMPLAINT YET. I DIDN'T EVEN CONSIDER FILING A COMPLAINT UNTIL I FINALLY GOT IT CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS THE ABS MODULE FAILURE. I BELIEVE VW SHOULD REPLACE THE ABS MODULE AT NO COST TO OWNER.
HAD A NOISE AND THEN LIGHT GO OFF ON MY JETTA AIR BAG LIGHT STAYS ON SOI BROUGHT THIS TO DEALER THEY TOLD ME I NEED TO GET A NEW CLOCK SPRING AND AIR BAG INSTALLED AT A COST OF ABOUT $950. THIS IS ON THE RECALL FOR THE VW S LIST OF RECALLED AIRBAGS THEY SAID MINE DOESN'T QUALIFY SAME PROBLEM BUT A FEW MONTHS DIFFERENT IN TIME
JUST BOUGHT THIS CAR FROM A DEALERSHIP 2 MONTHS AGO. WE HAVEN'T EVEN PUT 2,000 MILE ON THE CAR YET AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. I TALKED TO MY MECHANIC AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR AND HE TOLD ME THESE CARS ARE NOTORIOUS FOR MAF SENSOR FAILURES AND THAT IT IS NOT AN EASY FIX. IN FACT HE WON'T EVEN WORK ON THIS PROBLEM DUE TO HIS PAST EXPERIENCES WITH THIS EXACT PROBLEM. NOW I HAVE TO TAKE IT TO VW AND THEY WILL HAVE TO REPLACE TO WHOLE THROTTLE BODY AND REPROGRAM THE ECU. KINDA FUNNY HOW MY MECHANIC WARNED ME IF THIS PROBLEM AND WASN'T EVEN TIME FOR AN OIL CHANGE BEFORE THIS HAPPENED. SEEMS LIKE VW HAS AN ISSUE WITH THIS PROBLEM AND THE FACT THEY HAVEN'T DONE ANYTHING TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM SUCH AS RECALL OR OFFER CHEAP SOLUTIONS AND CHARGE OVER 1000$ TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND HAS TO BE DONE AT VW TO RESET THE ECU TELLS ME THEY ARE DOING THIS ON PURPOSE TO MAKE AS MUCH MONEY AS POSSIBLE ON REPAIRS THAT SHOULD ONLY COST A COUPLE HUNDRED DOLLARS... COMPLETELY NOT SATISFIED WITH VW WILL NEVER BUY ONE AGAIN, WILL NEVER RECOMMEND ONE TO ANYONE IN FACT WILL CAMPAIGN TO BOYCOTT VW AT ALL COSTS!!
YESTEDAY, THE ENGINE SHUT DOWN AFTER I GOT OFF FREEWAY AT OFFRAMP. AS I CAME TO A STOP AT THE TRAFFIC LIGHT AND ENGINE STOPPED. HAD A FLASHING "GLOW PLUG" ICON ON DASH FOR LESS THAN A MINUTE AND LITTLE NO ACCELERATION BEFORE EXITING FREEWAY. WOULD NOT RESTART. HAD TO HAVE CAR TOWED 50 MILES TO HOME. TODAY I FIND A DTC OF P0087, FUEL PRESSURE TOO LOW. I UNSCREWED THE SCREWS HOLDING THE FUEL FILTER ASSY TOP COVER. LIFTING THE COVER, I SAW METAL PARTICLES ON TOP OF THE FUEL FILTER. THIS ALWAYS MEANS THE HI-PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAS FAILED - FORCING METAL PARTICLES TO THE FUEL TANK, HI PRESSURE FUEL RAIL, FUEL INJECTORS, FUEL FILTER AND FUEL LINES.
DRIVING HOME WHEN EXITING OFF TO THE HWY MY JETTA WILL FLASH THE ABS, BRAKE AND ESC LIGHTS WHILE BEEPING. TOOK CAR TO MECHANIC IT WAS RELAYED THAT THE ABS MODULE WAS BAD. I REFUSE TO TAKE CAR TO VW DEALER BECAUSE I ALREADY HAVE ISSUES WITH THEM ABOUT THE ERC VALVE AND DIESEL FUEL PARTICULATE FILTER (ENGINE LIGHT CONSTANTLY STAYS ON) BEING 1 OF THE ISSUES VW HAS ADMITTED BEING FAULTY BUT STILL NOT DOING ANYTHING ABOUT IT. TO GET THE ABS FIXED IT'S GOING TO BE OVER $2500 AND THE HAVE THE ERC & DIESEL FUEL PARTICULATE FILTER FIXED IS OVER $3000. EACH OF THESE ITEMS ARE FAULTY AND SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF BY THE DEALER WITH A CENT PAID FROM MY POCKET. BOTH ARE LIFE THREATENING FAULTS THAT EVENTUALLY COULD LEAD TO MY DEATH OR DEATHS OF OTHERS. I HAVE NO CHOICE AS THIS IS MY SOLE SOURCE OF TRANSPORTATION SO I HAVE TO DRIVE IT. EVEN THOUGH VW ADMITS FAULT THEY ARE DOING NOTHING TO HELP EXCEPT FOR OFFERING "CONSOLATION" GIFTS - NONE WILL COVER COST TO FIX CAR AND GET MYSELF AND OTHERS OUT OF DANGER. VW NEEDS TO BE HELD RESPONSIBLE.
THE TIMING CHAIN TENSION BROKE CAUSING THE CHAIN TO BREAK OFF AND BEND SEVERAL VALUES CAUSING EXTENSION DAMAGE TO THE MOTOR. MOST CARS ARE EQUIPPED WITH TIMING BELTS BUT VW WENT TO THE TIMING CHAIN IN RETURN THE TENSIONER WHICH THEY LATER REVISED IS FAULTY AND BREAKS CAUSING THE CHAIN TO DESTROY SEVERAL IMPORTANT PARTS. VW IS UNWILLING TO HELP US WITH THIS ISSUE THAT THEY KNOW IS AN ISSUE BECAUSE THEY LATER CORRECTED IN THE LATER MODELS. I CALLED CUSTOMER CARE BUT BECAUSE THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY AT 60,000 IS EXPIRED THEY WILL DO NOTHING. THERE IS A HUGE FORUM STARTED WITH SEVERAL PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD THIS USE AROUND 80-110,00 MILES!! I AM OUTRAGED AND HAVE TO SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO REPAIR ALL THE DAMAGE OR BASICALLY GET A NEW CAR. THE CAR IS WORTHLESS AT THIS POINT.
DEBRIS WORKS ITS WAY PAST THE SHIELD AT THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDSHIELD, CLOGS UP THE DRAIN HOLES IN THE FENDER AND OVERFLOWS INTO THE HEATER BOX. IT THAN LEAKS INTO THE CAR AND CAUSES THE WINDOWS TO FOG UP TO THE POINT WHERE YOU CAN NOT SEE OUT THE WINDOWS WHILE DRIVING. THE PROBLEM WILL OCCUR WHEN THE VEHICLE IS MOVING OR STANDING STILL
THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP OF THE TDI DIESEL VERSION OF THIS CAR IS EASILY COMPROMISED UNDER REGULAR USE AND SENDS THE CAR INTO A DISABLED MODE WHILE DRIVING. IT IS DANGEROUS AND VERY UNCLEAR WHAT IS HAPPENING.

ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, I HAD MY MECHANIC DO A 120,000 MILE SERVICE AND DIAGNOSE THE DASH ENGINE LIGHT AND THE INTAKE MANIFOLD WAS REPLACED. WHEN I PICKED THE CAR UP I SMELLED DIESEL. I DROVE IT 13 MILES, WHEN I GOT HOME I SMELLED DIESEL AGAIN. I OPENED THE HOOD AND THERE WAS DIESEL ALL OVER THE LEFT ENGINE SIDE. THERE WAS A WET, SPLIT FUEL LINE, LEAKING FLUID IN THE PARKING LOT, A BLUE PLASTIC SET SMALL RINGS (LIKE THE OLYMPIC SYMBOL) SAT NEAR THE SPLIT HOSE. IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE, AND OTHER CARS TO BE IN DANGER FROM SLICK ROAD, AMONG OTHER THINGS.

ON 9/13/2015 I NOTICED AN AIR BAG LIGHT HAD ACTIVATED. THE VW DEALER TELLS ME THAT A WIRING HARNESS, PART #1K0971584 HAS BROKEN. I CAN DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT A STEERING WHEEL AIR BAGS OR GET IT FIXED, MY CHOICE. WELL THIS CAR ONLY HAS 35500 MILES ON IT. THIS HARNESS SHOULD NOT HAVE BROKEN. THE FUNNY THING IS THIS HARNESS SITS UNDER THE AIR BAG BETWEEN THE AIR BAG AND THE STEERING WHEEL. I BELIEVE VW HAS/ HAD A RECALL FOR 2010 TO 2014 JETTA MODELS FOR THE SAME THING. THERE IS SOMETHING GOING WRONG UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL AIR BAG AND VW BETTER FIND OUT WHAT THE PROBLEM IS AND REPAIR IT.
UPON PULLING OUT OF A DRIVEWAY, VEHICLE SHOWED FLASHING "GLOW PLUG" INDICATOR AND LOSS OF POWER (LIMP HOME MODE). PULLED OVER, TURNED OFF VEHICLE AND RESTARTED, INDICATOR CLEARED AND VEHICLE DROVE NORMALLY. ON SUBSEQUENT TRIP LATER IN THE DAY, SAME SYMPTOMS APPEARED. AGAIN, CLEARED BY STOP AND RESTART OF VEHICLE. FLASHING GLOW PLUG INDICATOR RETURNED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY, THIS TIME WITH SOLID "CHECK ENGINE" INDICATOR AS WELL. DROVE TO DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT WHERE THEY FOUND METAL FRAGMENTS IN THE FUEL SYSTEM AND LIKELY HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE. CURRENTLY AWAITING RESULTS OF FUEL TEST TO VERIFY FAILURE WAS NOT CAUSED BY MISFUELING WITH GASOLINE.
WHEN GETTING MY DAUGHTER OUT OF HER BOOSTER SEAT IN OUR SPORTWAGEN TDI, THE REAR SEAT BELT STOPPED RETRACTING. I PLAYED AROUND TO GET IT TO RETRACT, BUT IT STILL WOULDN'T, SO NOW THE BELT IS TOTALLY USELESS AS IT IS TOO LOOSE ON MY DAUGHTER AND THERE IS NO GUARANTEE IT WILL EVEN WORK IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER TODAY, AND THEY CONFIRMED THAT THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE RETRACTING MECHANISM IN THE BELT AND IT MUST BE REPLACED. HE ALSO COULD TELL THAT THE DEFECT WASN'T CAUSED BY A CHILD JAMMING SOMETHING INTO THE BELT AS IT IS IN A PART OF THE MECHANISM THAT IS COMPLETELY SEALED AND CAN'T BE ACCESSED WITHOUT REMOVING BODY PANELS. WHILE I'M THANKFUL THIS HAPPENED WHEN PARKED, I SHUDDER TO THINK WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED TO MY DAUGHTER IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH WITH A DEFECTIVE BELT. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE SAFETY EQUIPMENT IN A CAR MIGHT NEED TO BE REPLACED IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION, BUT THE SEAT BELT SHOULD BE THE ONE PIECE OF EQUIPMENT IN ANY CAR THAT SHOULD NOT JUST RANDOMLY BREAK WHEN THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN ANY INCIDENT.

METAL FRAGMENTS WERE FOUND IN THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM DAMAGING ALL COMPONENTS.COMPLETE FUEL SYSTEM REPLACEMENT IS ONLY ALTERNATIVE PER VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA. CONTACTED VOLKSWAGEN CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE AND WAS TOLD ASSISTANCE IS NOT AN OPTION DUE TO A FEDERAL MANDATE LIMITING TIME AND MILEAGE TO 10 YEARS OR 120000 MILES. ALSO STATED VOLKSWAGEN WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO REPAIR AT THEIR DISCRETION IF NOT FOR THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS?? THIS IS A VERY COMMON FAILURE THAT LOCAL DEALER STATES OCCURS LOCALLY 4-5 TIMES A WEEK IN THIS AREA. THE AVERAGE REPAIR COST IS OVER 6000.00 DOLLARS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THE NHTSA HAD INVESTIGATED THIS SITUATION AND CLOSED THE PROBE. IF DEALER RECORDS WERE INVESTIGATED THOROUGHLY, THEY WOULD HAVE FOUND A TREMENDOUS NUMBER OF LIKE FAILURES THAT CANNOT ALL BE ATTRIBUTED TO IMPROPER FUELING OR TAINTED PRODUCT. 4-5 TIMES A WEEK SINCE 2009?? ABSURD AND UNACCEPTABLE.
STOPPED AND LEFT THE LINE AT A GREEN LIGHT WHEN OUR 2009 JETTA TDI SPUTTERED AND STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION. WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A LOCAL VW DEALERSHIP AND GIVEN AN INVOICE FOR $5500 FOR THE HIGH PRESSURE PUMP, WHICH IS IDENTIFIED A KNOWN ISSUE BY VW UNDER A SELF-IMPOSED EXTENDED WARRANTY BUT NEVER UNDER A RECALL. AS I WAS TOLD BY VW CUSTOMER SERVICE, SINCE THERE WAS NEVER A CATASTROPHIC ISSUE TO OUR VEHICLE PRIOR TO 120K MILES, INSTEAD AT 124K MILES, THE SAFETY ITEMS WERE NOT IDENTIFIED AND CORRECTED.
THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON (HAD BEEN ON FOR THE ENTIRE DURATION OF MY OWNERSHIP OF 1 YEAR FOR THE CAR). WE WERE ON THE HIGHWAY AND THE CAR STEADILY LOST POWER IN THE SPAN OF A QUARTER MILE. WE PULLED OFF THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE WOULD CRANK BUT NOT START. THE MECHANIC THE NEXT DAY FOUND METAL SHAVINGS IN THE FUEL SYSTEM AND SUSPECTS A HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE. THE RECOMMENDATION WAS TO REPLACE BOTH FUEL PUMPS AND FUEL LINES. WE HAVE NEVER MISFUELED THE CAR - WE HAVE ONLY USED DIESEL FUEL AT TOP STATIONS LIKE SHELL AND BP.
DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 35 MPH THE CAR SUDDENLY DIES, LEAVING ME NO POWER TO ESCAPE A POSSIBLE ACCIDENT, BRAKES ARE HARD TO USE, STUCK IN A TRAFFIC LANE WITH CARS COMING UP ON ME AT 35 TO 45 MPH, TURNS OUT THE HPFP EXPLODED SENDING METAL THRU OUT THE FUEL SYSTEM CAUSING THE ENGINE TO STARVE FOR FUEL AND STALL OUT, WITH NO FUEL GETTING TO THE ENGINE THE MOTOR WONT RESTART CAUSING A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION
HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR WELL OVER 100 MILES ON THE INTERSTATE AND WAS EXITING FROM ONE INTERSTATE ONTO ANOTHER IN MODERATE TRAFFIC IN LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY. DURING LANE CHANGE, FLASHING "GLOW PLUG" INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON AND "ENGINE FAULT! WORKSHOP!" CAME ON. CAR IMMEDIATELY DECELERATED, CAUSING HARD BREAKING FROM FOLLOWING TRAFFIC AND NEAR COLLISION. ABLE TO DRIVE AT 40 MPH FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE MILE TO ANOTHER EXIT. STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHT AT THE BOTTOM OF THAT EXIT AND CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AND WOULD NOT RESTART. TOWED TO NEAREST DEALERSHIP. TWO DAYS LATER, LEARNED FROM VW DEALER THAT IT WAS THE "HPFP". AGAIN. A SIMILAR INCIDENT HAPPENED WITH THIS CAR IN THE FALL OF 2011 -- AROUND THE SAME TIME VW ISSUED THEIR RECALL OF THE FAULTY PUMP. I WAS TOLD THAT THE HPFP WAS REPLACED AT THAT TIME. THIS WAS ONLY 4 YEARS AGO AND PRECISELY THE SAME ISSUE. I HAVE HAD THE DIESEL FUEL PUMP MODIFICATION (ANOTHER RECALL), THE CAR IS UNDER THE 120K ON THEIR "EXTENDED WARRANTY" AND I ONLY USE VERY-LOW SULFUR DIESEL GASOLINE AT MAJOR NATIONAL CHAINS WHEN TRAVELING CROSS-COUNTRY LIKE THIS.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MILES PER HOUR, AND MY ENGINE STALLED. THIS CAME WITHOUT WARNING FROM THE ALERT SYSTEMS. I TOWED THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAD MALFUNCTIONED. THERE IS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMPS, AND MY CAR WAS IN THE MILEAGE AND AGE LIMITS. THEY SAID THEY WOULD TEST MY FUEL, AND IF IT HAD A TRACE OF GASOLINE IN THE DIESEL ENGINE, THEN THE EXTENDED POWERTRAIN WARRANTY WOULD BE VOIDED. THE TEST RESULTS SHOWED NO TRACE OF GASOLINE, BUT THEY STILL REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS. THIS COST ME OVER $4000. THIS IS IDENTICAL TO THE PROBLEMS REPORTED IN NHTSA ACTION NUMBER EA11003.

AFTER GROCERY SHOPPING, TURNED THE ENGINE ON AGAIN AND STARTED TO DRIVE. BOTH WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AGAIN AND THEN THE ENGINE STALLED. WAS ABLE TO START IT AGAIN AND PARKED IT IN A PARKING SPOT. WAITED ABOUT 5 MINUTES AND STARTED IT AGAIN AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE IT AROUND THE PARKING LOT. ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON BUT CAR WAS RUNNING OK. PULLED OUT ONTO THE STREET AND WENT ABOUT A 1/4 OF A MILE AND THE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AGAIN AND STALLED. WAS ABLE TO START IT AGAIN AND MAKE A U-TURN AND THEN THE LIGHTS AND STALLED HAPPENED AGAIN. PARKED ALONG THE CURB AND CALLED A TOW TRUCK. THIS APPARENTLY IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE FUEL PUMP ON VW TDI'S. CAR IS CURRENTLY AT A VW DEALERSHIP WAITING ON THE RESULTS FOR A GAS TEST TO SEE WHAT TYPE OF FUEL I HAD IN THE TANK. MY CALL HAS THE GASOLINE NOZZLE BLOCKER INSTALLED PER THE RECALL A FEW YEARS AGO. THERE IS NOT ANY GASOLINE IN THE TANK.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE 101 FREEWAY AT 4PM ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK IN MODERATE TO HEAVY TRAFFIC WHEN I BRAKED THINKING IT WAS CLOSER TO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME THEN I ACTUALLY WAS AND HIT MY BRAKE; MY FOOT WHEN TO THE FLOOR, THE CAR DID NOT STOP BUT SKIDDED AND SPUN AROUND. I LANDED FACING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION ON THE EDGE OF AN EMBANKMENT WITHOUT HITTING ANY OTHER CAR. I CALLED 911 THINKING IT WOULD ROLL DOWN THE EMBANKMENT AND WAS ABLE TO CRAWL OUT OF THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR. THERE WAS BRUSH ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY WHICH PREVENTED ME FROM ROLLING DOWN. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY AT THE SHOP AND WAITING FOR INSPECTION.
