THE HORN CHANGED SOUNDS FOR A FEW WEEKS THEN STOPPED WORKING ALL TOGETHER. IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND IN OTHER AREAS WHEN YOU DO NOT HAVE A HORN. I'VE SEEN ON THIS SITE THAT OTHERS HAVE HAD THE SAME COMPLAINT.
HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE JULY 2015, WAS DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED WHEN GLOW PLUG INDICATOR STARTED FLASHING, PULLED OFF HIGHWAY AND CAR STALLED IN HIGHWAY OFF-RAMP INTERSECTION. PUSHED CAR OUT OF INTERSECTION TO SIDE SHOULDER. CAR TOWED TO FOX VW OF ROCHESTER HILLS MI. VW AUTHORIZED WARRANTY CLAIM ON REPLACEMENT OF ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. REPAIR WAS COMPLETED AND CAR RETURNED. CAR SMELLED OF DIESEL IN THE INTERIOR COMPARTMENT. SMELL DID NOT LESSEN AFTER 1 WEEK EVEN WITH WINDOWS OPEN TO AIR OUT. RETURNED VEHICLE TO FOX VW. FOX VW STATED THAT THERE WAS A SPILL AT THE ACCESS TO THE FUEL PUMP SENDING UNIT UNDER THE SEAT. THE SPILL WAS CLEANED UP AND VEHICLE RETURNED. DIESEL SMELL WAS LESS. FAST FORWARD 3 MONTHS TO NOVEMBER 2015, RETURNED CAR FOR EXTENDED WARRANTY SERVICE FOR GLOW PLUG REPLACEMENT AT PURCHASING DEALER IN PENNSYLVANIA (THREE RIVERS VW), DEALER SERVICE TECHNICIANS DISCOVERED AND DOCUMENTED MULTIPLE FUEL SYSTEM LEAKS WITH INCORRECTLY INSTALLED COMPONENTS. FUEL WAS PRESENT ON TOP OF ENGINE, HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HOUSING AND FUEL FILTER HOUSING. TRAVELED IN THIS CAR WITH NEWBORN DAUGHTER AND 4YO SON MULTIPLE TIMES WITH LONG ROAD TRIPS IN THE TIME FROM THE FUEL SMELL COMPLAINT TO THREE RIVERS VW FINDING THE LEAKING FUEL. THREE RIVERS VW REPAIRED VEHICLE WITH AUTHORIZATION FROM VW AMERICA.
I WAS DRIVING TO WORK, WHICH INCLUDES CROSSING A TOLL BRIDGE DAILY. I WAS ON THE BRIDGE, WHICH IS ONLY A 2 LANE BRIDGE, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN MY DIESEL ENGINE FAILURE LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH. I LOST ACCELERATION AND WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF TO THE SHOULDER SAFELY AND TURN OFF THE CAR. I SAT THERE FOR A FEW MINUTES CONTEMPLATING IF I SHOULD CALL AAA TO GET A TOW TO THE DEALER. SEEING AS I WAS ONLY ABOUT 5 MILES FROM THE VW DEALER, I DECIDED TO SEE IF MY CAR WILL MAKE IT THERE. IT STARTED BACK UP NO PROBLEM AND I WAS ABLE TO ACCELERATE BACK INTO TRAFFIC AND MAKE IT TO THE DEALER WITH NO FURTHER ISSUES. I EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM TO THE SERVICE REP. AND THEY CHECKED IN MY CAR AND I WAITED FOR THEM TO CALL ME WITH THE ISSUE. LATER IN THE DAY, I RECEIVED THE CALL FROM THE SERVICE REP., AND HE INFORMED ME THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILED, AND THEY WILL HAVE TO REBUILD THE FUEL SYSTEM, AS THERE WERE METAL PARTICLES FOUND IN THE GAS AND GAS LINES. HE SAID THIS SOMETIMES HAPPENS WHEN A CUSTOMER MAY USE BIODIESEL FUEL OR A LOWER GRADE OF DIESEL. HE ALSO SAID THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO SEND THE GAS SAMPLES OFF TO VW LAB TO REVIEW IN ORDER FOR THE REPAIRS TO BE APPROVED SINCE I HAVE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. I AM SHOCKED THAT THIS OCCURED, SEEING AS MY CAR IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD AND LESS THAN 50K MILES ON IT. THANKFULLY, THERE WAS NOT AN ACCIDENT AND NO ONE WAS HURT.
I PARKED ON A DRIVEWAY WITH A 15 DEGREE PITCH. I FOLLOWED THE SAME PROCEDURE EACH TIME I PARK, WAITING 1 MINUTE IN IDLE, TRANSMISSION TO NEUTRAL, WITH MY FOOT DEPRESSED ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. AFTER SHUTDOWN I ENGAGED THE PARKING BRAKE AND PLACED THE TRANSMISSION IN 1ST GEAR. I EXITED THE VEHICLE FOR 10 TO 15 MINUTES PREPARING THE CAR FOR WAXING. I LEFT THE AREA FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES AND RETURNED TO FIND THE CAR HAD ROLLED DOWN THE DRIVEWAY, CRASHED THROUGH A FENCE, DOWN A HILL, AND INTO TREES. (THE PARKING BRAKE WAS ENGAGED BUT TRANSMISSION WAS IN NEUTRAL) I PERFORMED TESTS AND DETERMINED THAT RANDOMLY, GEAR SHIFTER APPEARED TO BE IN 1ST GEAR BUT WHEN I RELEASED THE PARKING BRAKE THE SHIFTER RETURNED TO THE NEUTRAL POSITION AND CAR STARTED ROLLING BACK. I CONTACTED VW CUSTOMER SERVICE AND REPORTED THIS. A VW SERVICE MANAGER ASKED ME TO REPLICATE CONDITIONS OF INCIDENT. I PARKED THE VEHICLE ON A SLIGHT UPGRADE, ALLOWED ONE MINUTE IN IDLE, SET THE PARKING BRAKE, AND PLACED THE SHIFTER IN 1ST GEAR. THE SERVICE MANAGER INFORMED ME THAT MANUAL TRANSMISSION SYNCHRONIZERS CAN RANDOMLY CATCH WHILE STATIONARY PREVENTING PROPER ENGAGEMENT INTO 1ST GEAR. HE ALSO INFORMED ME THAT I HAD NOT FULLY ENGAGED THE PARKING BRAKE. HE PULLED THE PARKING BRAKE UP SLOWLY (APPROXIMATELY 6-7 CLICKS). THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT REPORTED PARKING BRAKE AND TRANSMISSION TESTED OK AND NO REPAIRS REQUIRED. QUESTIONS FOR NTSB: 1 SHOULD ORDER OF OPERATIONS OUTLINED IN VW OWNER'S MANUAL FOR PARKING CAR WITH MANUAL TRANSMISSION BE REVISED TO FIRST PLACE THE TRANSMISSION IN 1ST GEAR, RELEASE THE MAIN BRAKE SLOWLY, AND DETERMINE IF CAR REMAINS STATIONARY BEFORE ENGAGING PARKING BRAKE? THIS WOULD PREVENT FULL LOAD ON TRANSMISSION WHILE INSURING THAT THE CAR REMAINS STATIONARY REGARDLESS OF A PARKING BRAKE FAILURE. 2: SHOULD THE VW MANUAL STATE THAT THE PARKING BRAKE NEEDS TO BE FULLY EXTENDED (6-7 CLICKS)?
AT APPROX. 48,800 MILES WHILE DRIVING I HEARD A POP AND THE RADIO DIED. RADIO & HANDS FREE PHONE NO LONGER WORK. VW DEALER CHARGED $125 TO TELL ME THAT IT WAS DEAD, SUGGESTED PURCHASING A NEW RADIO ($1500) OR AN AFTER MARKET ONE. TOO MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE AS POSTED ON NUMEROUS SITES. IT'S A SAFETY HAZARD WITH THE LOSS OF THE HANDS FREE TELEPHONE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE AT 35 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED TO THE FLOORBOARD AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESPOND EFFECTIVELY. THE WRENCH AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE BRAKES FAILED TO COMPLETELY STOP THE VEHICLE ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DETERMINED. THE DEALER RESET THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 92,629.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE JERKED, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FUEL INJECTOR SYSTEM FAILED. FOUR INJECTORS, THE FUEL RINGS, THE IGNITION COIL, AND THE WIRES WERE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED TO OPERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR FAILED. THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AS HAVING A FAILED PASSENGER OCCUPANT DETECTION CONTROL MODULE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 82,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE DRAINED. IN ADDITION, THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 60,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. WHILE EXITING THE HIGHWAY AT 20 MPH, THE VEHICLE STRUCK A POTHOLE AND THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE BRAKE ASSEMBLY FAILED. THE BRAKE CALIPER WAS RUBBING AGAINST THE WHEEL AND LOCKED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
IN THE PROCESS OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE THE ENGINE ALONG WITH ALL SYSTEMS IN THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN WITH NO WARNING. THERE WAS NO ELECTRICAL POWER WHATSOEVER IN THE CAR AND THERE WAS NO INDICATION THAT ANYTHING IN THE VEHICLE WAS WORKING. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT A NEW BATTERY WAS INSTALLED IN THE VEHICLE APPROXIMATELY 2-3 WEEKS PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. THE CAR HAD SHUT DOWN ON TWO PREVIOUS OCCASIONS, BUT WAS PARKED AT THE TIME. IN EACH INSTANCE ELECTRICAL POWER WAS RESTORED IN APPROXIMATELY 40 MINUTES WITH NO ACTION TAKEN. THE CAR WAS GIVEN TO THE VW DEALER WHERE VW SPECIALISTS EXAMINED THE VEHICLE. THE PROBLEM COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED. AFTER 3 DAYS THEY WERE 90% POSITIVE THAT A MODULE IN THE STEERING COLUMN HAD FAILED. VW OF AMERICA DID NOT FEEL THAT THE FAILURE WAS A MANUFACTURES DEFECT NOR THE FACT THAT THE CAR SHUTS DOWN COMPLETELY WHILE BEING DRIVEN CONSTITUTED A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING, RADIO/CD/HANDS FREE TELEPHONE DIED. SCREEN FLICKERED AND THEN WENT BLANK, NO POWER TO ALL THESE FUNCTIONS. VW REPAIR SAID THIS MODEL OF RADIO INSTALLED ON THIS YEAR VEHICLE WAS A COMMON PROBLEM, AND THAT THE RADIO UNIT IS DEAD AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED ($668 PLUS TAX FOR A REPLACEMENT BY DEALER). PLUS AN INSTALL FEE. AN UNGODLY PRICE FOR A REPLACEMENT RADIO THAT IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD. THERE ARE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS AND THREADS OUT WHICH WARRANT A RECALL. I USE THE HANDS FREE CONSTANTLY FOR WORK AND NOT BEING ABLE TO WILL MAKE ME HAVE TO USE THE PHONE IN AN UNSAFE MANNER. SAFETY IS PARAMOUNT. UPDATE 9/15/15*CW
MY VW JETTA BLOWS WHITE SMOKE ON START UP. IT FILLS MY GARAGE WITH WHITE SMOKE.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUSE PANEL HAD THERMALLY OVERHEATED, MELTED, AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DPF FILTER FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 108,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TOUCH SCREEN RADIO DIED INEXPLICABLY, WEIRD KNOCKING SOUND FROM SPEAKERS
I LOVE THIS CAR BUT FOR THE LAST YEAR I HAVE BEEN REPLACING LIGHTS BULBS EVERY THREE MONTHS. NOW I HAVE RUNNING LIGHTS GOING OUT, NO TURNING SIGNALS, TAIL LIGHT FLICKERS, THERE IS SOMETHING THAT IS WRONG WITH THE ELECTRICAL WIRING IN THIS CAR.

THE CONTACT'S CITY HAS A HANDS FREE LAW FOR SAFETY. IN THE COLD WINTER MONTHS, THE RADIO AND BLUETOOTH FAILURE PREVENTED THE CONTACT FROM BEING ABLE TO GET ANY UPDATE INFORMATION. WHILE DRIVING, RADIO/CD/HANDS FREE TELEPHONE DIED. BLANK SCREEN, NO POWER. ALL FUSES FINE. AFTER REMOVING RADIO AND CHECKING WIRING /GROUND, AUTO STEREO REPAIR GUY SAID THAT THE RADIO UNIT IS SHOT AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED ($600 PARTS BY DEALER) OR REPAIRED FOR MORE. 2011 CAR HAS JUST OVER 300000 MILES. RIDICULOUS
WIFE CAME HOME AND SAID RADIO NOT WORKING. FROM THE RESEARCH I HAVE BEEN LOOKING AT. IT'S DONE. HAVE TO GET A NEW OR AFTERMARKET UNIT. CAN'T BELIEVE I AM THE ONLY ON WITH THIS PROBLEM.
I WAS HAVING TROUBLE WITH VARIOUS LIGHT BULBS GOING OUT. IT TURNED OUT TO BE A FUSE THAT HAD MELTED THE FUSE PLATE. I AM LUCKY THAT IT HAD NOT STARTED A FIRE. MY DEALER REPLACED THE FUSE PLATE AT A COST OF 372 WHICH VW IS REFUSING TO REIMBURSE ME FOR. I KNOW OTHER VW MODELS HAVE HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM AND HAVE BEEN RECALLED. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. LOOSING YOUR HEADLIGHTS AT NIGHT OR A VEHICLE FIRE ARE SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUES. *TR

HPFP CATASTROPHIC FAILURE STARTED VEHICLE AND WHILE DRIVING EXPERIENCED LOSS OF POWER. DIESEL GLOW PLUG ILLUMINATED AND MFD MESSAGE READ "SERVICE NOW". STALLED AT TRAFFIC LIGHT AND WOULD NOT RESTART. TOWED TO VW OF CORPUS CHRISTI THE NEXT DAY. VW REPAIRED AT THEIR COST. NEVER FUELED WITH ANYTHING BUT DIESEL. REPAIR TICKET INDICATED THAT 'DIESEL LOOKED OK". I WAS FORTUNATE THAT THIS DID NOT OCCUR AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I BELIEVE THAT THE COMPLAINT WAS CLOSED TOO EARLY BY THE NHTSA AND IS NOT DUE TO MISFUELING AS YOU HAVE BEEN CONVINCED BY VW BUT RATHER A DESIGN FLAW IN THE HPFP. I HAVE LOST CONFIDENCE IN THIS BRAND AND THE NHTSA DUE TO THIS ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 75 MPH, THE DOOR LOCKS ON THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LOCK AND UNLOCK INDEPENDENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
WHILE DRIVING WITH APPROX. 50,000 MILES, THE RADIO POPPED AND COMPLETELY DIED. THE RADIO, ALONG WITH THE HANDS FREE PHONE CAPABILITY ARE NOW INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TWO (2) SEPARATE VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIPS AND EACH VERIFIED THAT THE FUSES WERE IN TACT AND IT WAS A FAULTY RADIO. THE BROKEN RADIO IS ACTUALLY STILL DRAWING POWER FROM THE BATTERY WHICH CAUSES FREQUENT DEAD BATTERIES. I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED TWO (2) BATTERIES IN THE LAST YEAR. THIS POSES A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE THE BATTERY COULD DIE AT ANYTIME AND LEAVE THE DRIVER STRANDED. THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM WHICH WARRANTS A RECALL BEFORE ANYONE ELSE GETS HURT.
THE CAR LOSES POWER, STALLS THEN IT DIES. AT TIMES IT SPEEDS UP, AND STALLS DIES WITHOUT WARNING. LOSES ALL POWER, FOUND RECALL IN REFERENCE TO THIS ISSUE. VIN# MATCHES SERIES, MATCHES DATE, AND PLACE WHERE THE CAR WAS MADE, EXCEPT FOR THE LAST FEW DIGITS. RECALL 11V19600, AND VW WILL NOT REPLACE HARNESS TO ELECTRCIAL FUSE AND CIRCUIT BREAKER. I NEED TO HELP TO GET THIS RESOLVED. I HAVE BEEN BATTLING THE DEALER AND VW OF AMERICA SINCE 03/20/2015 UNTIL TODAY 06/26/2015
THE IGNITION SWITCH WONT ALLOW THE KEY TO, TURN TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF.

4:45 AM AT 45 MPH, THE ENGINE SPUTTERED THEN TWO DASH LIGHTS SHOWED UP, I PULLED OVER TO CHECK WHAT THEY MEANT. ONE SAID PRE GLOW BEFORE START UP; IF FLASHING MALFUNCTION IN THE DIESEL ENGINE, THE OTHER WAS THE ENGINE MALFUNCTION WHICH SAID EMISSION MALFUNCTION. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO LOCAL GARAGE THEY DETERMINED IT WAS A FUEL PUMP ISSUE AND SHOWED ME ALL THE METAL SHAVINGS IN THE FUEL METERING VALVE. THEY TOLD ME TO TAKE IT TO VW AS THERE ARE MANY BULLETINS ON THE PROBLEM. *TR
OUTSIDE TEMP WAS 3 DEGREES F, APPROX 0730 ON 16FEB15 I HAD BEEN ON SHIFT THE CAR HAD NOT BEEN STARTED FOR 48 HRS. I STARTED THE CAR, AND WENT BACK INSIDE THE WORK BUILDING FOR APPROX. 5 MIN. WHEN I WENT BACK TO THE CAR I NOTICED A LARGE FLUID SPILL EMANATING FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. AFTER REQUESTING ASSISTANCE FROM A CO-WORKER IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT WHEN THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS ACTIVATED LARGE AMOUNTS OF DIESEL FUEL WAS SPURTING FROM THE TOP-FRONT PORTION OF THE FUEL PUMP. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN LEFT OFF, IS CURRENTLY AWAITING TOW, DIAGNOSTIC AND REPAIR ESTIMATES. *TR
TRAVELING ALONG AT HIGHWAY SPEED. CAR SPUTTERED AND DIED. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER AND BE TOWED TO A REPAIR SHOP. APPARENTLY THERE IS A WELL-KNOWN DESIGN FLAW IN THE INTERCOOLER INTAKE PIPE ON ALL VOLKSWAGEN TDI (DIESEL) ENGINES SINCE 2009 THAT CAUSES MOISTURE TO DEVELOP IN THE INTERCOOLER INTAKE PIPE DURING COLD WEATHER. IF ENOUGH MOISTURE COLLECTS IN THIS PIPE, IT WILL GET CHANNELED TO THE ENGINE AND BE FED INTO THE CYLINDERS, CAUSING THE CAR TO SPUTTER AND STALL EXACTLY AS MINE DID - OR TO SIMPLY NOT START ON COLD DAYS. OTHER SIDE EFFECTS OF THIS, ARE SEVERE ENGINE DAMAGE. VW IS WELL AWARE OF THIS ISSUE, AND HAS ISSUED A TSB ABOUT IT. "TSB# 21 11 06 / 2025464 FROZEN AIR CHARGE COOLER" AND THERE IS A REPAIR PART THEY HAVE ALREADY DESIGNED - # COLD WEATHER IC KIT 1K0-198-803-B... HOWEVER, THE PART IS ONLY MADE AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST AND AT OWNER EXPENSE IF OUT OF WARRANTY. THIS IS NOT A WARRANTY ISSUE; THIS IS HUGE SAFETY HAZARD AND A DESIGN FLAW THAT VW NEEDS TO CORRECT FOR ALL OWNERS. THIS SITUATION ALSO, APPARENTLY DOES NOT THROW ANY CODES TO THE VEHICLE COMPUTER, AS THERE ARE NO SENSORS OF ANY TYPE IN THIS INTERCOOLER PIPE. THE ONLY WAY TO DETERMINE THAT THIS IS THE CAUSE, IT TO PUT THE VEHICLE UP, AND REMOVE ONE END OF THIS HOSE AND SEE IF WATER OR 'SLUDGE' DRAINS OUT OF IT, AND THIS PIPE WOULD PROBABLY BE DESTROYED IN ANY FRONT-END COLLISION, AS IT'S FAR FORWARD IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. WAS DRIVING OUR 2011 JETTA SPORTWAGEN TDI 25 MPH AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND ENGINE HEATER LIGHT WERE FLASHING. CAR WENT INTO SAFE MODE WITH VERY LITTLE THROTTLE CONTROL. TOOK TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD A CATASTROPHIC FUEL SYSTEM FAILURE OCCURRED AND THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. FOUND OTHER CAR OWNERS ONLINE HAVE HAD SIMILAR ISSUES. ON FEBRUARY 1, 2014 I TURNED ON MY CAR AND HEADED TO CHURCH AT ABOUT 1 IN THE AFTERNOON, EVERYTHING APPEARED FINE. AFTER CHURCH I DID THE SAME; HOWEVER, SHORTLY AFTER I HAD LEFT THE CHURCH PARKING LOT THE GLOW PLUG AND BATTERY SYMBOLS STARTED FLASHING AND SUDDENLY MY ENGINE STOPPED. OUT OF NOWHERE MY CAR STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD, THANK GOODNESS I HAD MANAGED TO STEER TO THE SIDE AND THAT THE CARS ON THE ROAD MANAGED TO GO AROUND ME BECAUSE IT COULD HAVE TURNED OUT INTO A TRAGEDY. I HAD NEVER HAD ANY ISSUES WITH MY ENGINE/BATTERY NOR DID ANY OF THE DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHTS LIGHT UP PRIOR TO THIS INCIDENT. I TRIED TURNING MY CAR BACK ON SEVERAL TIMES BUT IT WAS UNRESPONSIVE. THE BATTERY AND ALTERNATOR SOUNDED FINE BUT FOR SOME REASON THE CAR JUST WOULDN'T START BACK UP. COULD IT HAVE BEEN THE FUEL PUMP? MY CAR RUNS ON DIESEL AND I HAVE ALWAYS FUELED IT WITH THE APPROPRIATE FUEL WITHOUT ANY ISSUES SO WHAT NOW? IT'S BEEN A WEEK AND THEY HAVE NOT ANSWERED. MY CAR HAS BEEN OUT OF A WARRANTY NOW FOR A WHILE, HOWEVER I HAVE MAINTAINED IT AND GIVEN IT THE PROPER CARE SO IT DOES NOT MAKE SENSE THAT A 2011 VEHICLE WOULD SIMPLY STALL IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT A WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE MECH TRONIC UNIT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V333000 (POWER TRAIN). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
I HAVE A 2011 VW JETTA TDI (DIESEL). AFTER LEAVING MY CAR PARKED FOR ABOUT A WEEK, IT WOULD NOT START. THE BATTERY WAS FINE, SO I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER, AND WAS TOLD THAT CONDENSATE HAD BUILD UP IN MY INTERCOOLER AND AIR INTAKE LINES AND FROZEN. THE SUGGESTED REPAIR WAS TO REPLACE THE INTERCOOLER, AND ASSOCIATED PARTS, BUT I HAD THEM THAW AND DRAIN THE LINES AND TOOK MY CAR HOME. I AM CONCERNED BECAUSE IF THE CONDENSATE BUILT UP IN THE LINES AND GOT INTO MY ENGINE I CAN POTENTIALLY THROW A ROD CAUSING SEVERE ENGINE DAMAGE. I ASKED THE DEALER ABOUT THIS AND THEY SAID WHILE UNLIKELY, IT COULD POTENTIALLY HAPPEN. HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILURE, RESULTING IN DAMAGE THAT REQUIRED REPLACING THE ENTIRE DIESEL FUEL SYSTEM. REPAIR COVERED UNDER VW WARRANTY, ESTIMATED COST (ACCORDING TO VW) HAD THIS NOT BEEN COVERED WAS $8000. THIS FAILURE WAS NOT DUE TO MIS-FUELING, HOWEVER THE FUEL TANK WAS VERY LOW. I HAD DRIVEN THE CAR EARLIER THAT DAY (ABOUT 40 MILES) WITH NO PROBLEMS. I GOT HOME AT ABOUT 7:30PM AND PARKED THE CAR OUTSIDE OUR HOUSE. AT ABOUT 2AM, I HEARD A BEEPING CAR HORN. BROUGHT TO DEALER FOR A DPF LIGHT. DEALER DIAGNOSED WITH A CLOGGED PARTICULATE FILTER REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. PICKED UP CAR DROVE ABOUT 5 MILES AND THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT CAME ON TURNED AROUND AND HEADED BACK TO DEALER CAR WENT INTO LIMP MODE (ON I93 RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC) SHUT CAR OFF IN VW PARKING LOT AND TECH COULD NOT GET IT TO START AGAIN. RECEIVED A CALL NEXT DAY WITH THE HPFP FAILURE NEWS AND THE FRAGMENT WENT THROUGH THE ENTIRE SYSTEM. DEALER TESTED FUEL AND CONFIRMED NO GAS IN THE 3/4 OF A TANK THAT IS IN THE CAR CURRENTLY. *TR
I WAS ON ROUTE 95 IN FLORIDA DRIVING AT NIGHT AND A CAR HAD CUT IN FRONT OF ME I HONK MY HORN AND THEN BOTH OF MY HEADLIGHTS BLEW. HEADLIGHTS, BRAKE LIGHTS, TURN SIGNALS AND LICENSE PLATE LIGHTS ALL WENT OUT AT THE SAME TIME WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT WITH A TODDLER IN THE CAR. NUMEROUS WARNINGS FLASHED ON THE CAR. TRACKED DOWN THE PROBLEM TO A MELTED FUSE CONNECTION ON THE FUSE PLATE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, NEXT TO THE BATTERY. THE FUSE (F16) WAS ALSO MELTED. I REPLACED THE FUSE AND EVERYTHING IS NOW WORKING, BUT SINCE THE PLATE IS STILL MELTED, I'M CONCERNED THE ISSUE WILL REOCCUR. I CALLED VW AND APPARENTLY THERE IS A SERVICE ACTION (97AM) TO FIX THIS EXACT ISSUE FOR JETTA SEDANS AND GTIS BUT NOT JETTA SPORTWAGENS. SINCE I'M HAVING THE SAME ISSUE, I BELIEVE THAT THIS SERVICE ACTION SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO 2011 JETTA SPORTWAGENS AS WELL. *TR
