TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONTAL WINDSHIELD WIPERS SEIZED AND COULD NOT BE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
WAS DRIVING IN PARKING LOT WHEN VEHICLE SUDDENLY DIED WHILE UNDERWAY AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THANKFULLY IT HAPPENED AT A RELATIVELY LOW SPEED AND WHILE NOT IN TRAFFIC AS THERE WAS LITTLE TO NO WARNING BEFORE THE ENGINE DIED COMPLETELY CAUSING LOSS OF POWER, STEERING, BRAKING ETC. AFTER TOWING VEHICLE TO VOLKSWAGEN OF SOUTH CHARLOTTE, THEY INDICATED THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAD FAILED RESULTING IN METAL PARTICLES FROM THE PUMP BEING SENT THROUGH ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. DEALER INDICATED CAUSE WAS BAD FUEL, HOWEVER, I ALSO HAVE A DIESEL TRUCK THAT I FILL UP AT THE SAME STATION ALL THE TIME AND HAVE NEVER HAD ISSUE WITH IT. WHILE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER WARRANTY BY VW, AFTER RESEARCHING THIS, IT BECAME CLEAR THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT IS HAPPENING FREQUENTLY ENOUGH THAT IT IS LIKELY A DESIGN FLAW THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURER. *TR
WHILE DRIVING, THE HPFP PUMP FAILED. THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT CAME ON, STARTED TO BLINK, THE CAR WENT INTO FAIL SAFE MODE, AND THEN DIED. ALL TOOK PLACE WITHIN 6 MINUTES ON A HIGHWAY. CAR TAKEN TO DEALER AND CONFIRMED THAT THE HPFP FAILED AND SENT METAL DEBRIS INTO THE FUEL SYSTEM WHICH CONTAMINATED ALL OTHER FUEL SYSTEM COMPONENTS (PUMPS, LINES, FILTERS, HOUSINGS, INJECTORS, ETC.) VW CUSTOMER CARE PROVIDED EXCELLENT SUPPORT DURING REPAIRS WHICH REQUIRED REPLACING ALL COMPONENTS IN THE FUEL SYSTEM. THIS IS BEING REPORTED FOR TRACKING PURPOSES. *TR
RIGHT SIDE HEADLIGHT STOPPED WORKING. I TOOK IT TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO CHANGED THE LIGHT BULB. ONE DAY LATER, THE RIGHT SIDE HEADLIGHT STOPPED WORKING AGAIN. *TR
DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 55MPH, STARTED SWITCHING LANES AND STEPPED ON THE GAS TO ACCELERATE. THE CAR SPUTTERED AND THE ENGINE VIBRATED. THE CAR FELT LIKE I WAS GOING TO STALL DRIVING IN THE HIGH-SPEED LANE. THE YELLOW CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND EPC LIGHT STARTED FLASHING. SWERVING BACK INTO THE LOWER SPEED LANE I COULDN'T EVEN KEEP THE CAR AT 55MPH. I HAD TO PULL OVER ON THE HIGHWAY TO SEE IF I COULD MAKE SENSE OF IT. AFTER TURNING OFF THE CAR AND THEN BACK ON, THE LIGHTS WENT OFF AND THE CAR WAS FINE. I TOOK IT TOO THE MECHANIC AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG AFTER $85.00 DIAGNOSTIC. THE CAR RAN FINE FOR 2 DAYS UNTIL THE SAME EXACT THING HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AGAIN. THIS OCCURRED ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY ABOUT EVERY 1-2 DAYS FOR ABOUT 2 WEEKS. THREE TRIPS TO THE MECHANIC WITHIN THOSE 2 WEEKS AND WITH EACH VISIT THERE WAS A COMPUTER CONNECTED TO THE CAR AND A FULL SYSTEMS DIAGNOSTIC REPORTED THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. IT BECAME DANGEROUS FOR ME TO DRIVE THE CAR AND EVEN MORE SO TO DRIVE IT ON THE HIGHWAY. AFTER THE SECOND WEEK THE LIGHTS FINALLY CAME ON AND STAYED ON AND THE PROBLEM WAS DIAGNOSED AS THE ENGINE MISFIRING IN 2 OF THE CYLINDERS. THE MECHANIC CHANGED WITH THE IGNITION COIL ON 12/15.2014. THE ENGINE RAN COMPLETELY FINE WITHOUT ANY ISSUES UNTIL LAST WEEK, 3/19/2015. AT 3 MONTHS AND ONLY 28,000 MILES ON THE CAR THE SAME PROBLEM STARTED TO REOCCUR WHILE GETTING ONTO THE HIGHWAY AND ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM 40-45MPH. IT STARTED JUST AS IT DID BEFORE INTERMITTENTLY AND ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER THE ENGINE AND EPC LIGHTS WERE ON PERMANENTLY AGAIN. AFTER THE MECHANIC CONFIRMED THAT IT WAS THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE SAME COMPONENT WE CHANGED THE SAME PART AGAIN. I AM EXPECTING TO BE CHANGING IT AGAIN IN 3 MORE MONTHS, IF I STILL HAVE THE CAR. *TR
WAS DRIVING MY CAR ON A 2 LANE ROAD WHEN IT BUCKED AS IF IT HAD A CYLINDER GO DEAD FOR JUST A SECOND. NOTE: THERE IS NO WARNING WHEN THIS IS OR DOES HAPPEN. IT JUST DOES IT.... BUT IT WAS HIT AN MISS. I LOOKED AT THE DASH PANNEL AND SEEN THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT FLASHING, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON AND THE MESSAGE CENTER SERVICE ENGINE NOW. I WAS 40 MILES FROM THE CLOSEST VW DEALER. SO, I HEADED TO THE CLOSEST AUTO PARTS SHOP TO SEE THE CODES IT HAD PRODUCED. P1007, P0088 AND P0087 ARE THE ONES I REMEMBERED. THE CAR WAS RUNNING BUT OBVIOUSLY NOT GOOD. IT LACKED ANY POWER,COULD BARELY PULL ITSELF UP A HILL UNLESS YOU DOWN SHIFTED. IT FINALLY DIED AT A INTERSECTION AND WOULD NOT RESTART. I GOT MY TRUCK AND TRAILER AND TOWED IT TO THE DEALER WHO STATED IT HAD SUFFERED HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP CATISTROPHIC FAILURE.... WHEN THEY CALLED THEY STATED IT WAS GOOD AND BAD NEWS. BAD NEWS IT WAS GOING TO BE 2-3 WEEKS IN THE SHOP. GOOD NEWS IS, THERE IS SO MUCH DAMAGE (6500.00) WORTH THAT VW IS PAYING FOR ALL THE REPAIRS PLUS I HAVE A LOANER CAR. THE WHOLE FUEL SYSTEMS HAS TO BE REPLACED. 1 IN TANK FUEL PUMP AND PRE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP AND THE PRIMARY HPFP THE ONE THAT SELF IMPLODED THE INJECTORS, AND ALL THE FUEL LINES AND FILTERS. REASON IS THE METAL PARTS THAT FLOATED THRU THE SYSTEM COULD BLOCK ANY PART OF THE FUEL SYSTEM OR BE HUNG UP AND IF SO, COULD RETURN TO THE FUEL TANK AND BE PUMPED BACK IN. WITH SUCH CLOSE TOLERANCES ANY THING COULD INTURN RE-DESTROY THE SYSTEM SO TOTAL REPLACEMENT IS REQUIRED. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME IN 35 YEARS I WAS LEFT ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. TRANSMISSION KICKED INTO NEUTRAL WHILE CRUISING ON HIGHWAY. HAD TO PULL OVER AND COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND RESTART THE CAR BEFORE IT WOULD ALLOW ME TO SHIFT BACK INTO DRIVE. THE FAULT RECURRED A FEW MILES LATER AND HAS RECURRED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THEN. THE CAR IS NOW TOO UNSAFE TO DRIVE. *TR
ON NOVEMBER 22,2014, I TURNED ON MY CAR LIKE ANY OTHER DAY AND HEADED TO GO RUN SOME ERRANDS, EVERYTHING APPEARED FINE. I HEADED TO MY FIRST ERRAND AND AFTER FINISHED I TURNED MY CAR ON AGAIN BUT MY STEREO WOULD NOT TURN ON. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON THINKING THAT THAT WAS GOING TO FIX IT BUT NOTHING, THE STEREO SIMPLY APPEARED DEAD. I HAD NEVER HAD STEREO PROBLEMS PRIOR TO THIS SO I WAS QUITE SURPRISED THAT WITHOUT A WARNING MY STEREO WOULD JUST DIE. THAT SAME DAY I CALLED THE VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID I COULD SIMPLY STOP BY AND THEY'D HAVE MY STEREO LOOKED AT BUT WHEN I SHOWED UP THEY SAID IT WOULD BE $140 SIMPLY TO GET IT DIAGNOSED AND THEN I'D STILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS! NEEDLESS TO SAY I WALKED OUT. I COULDN'T BELIEVE THAT THEY WOULDN'T EVEN GIVE MY STEREO A COMPLIMENTARY DIAGNOSTIC! THE SAME DAY I TOOK MY CAR TO A SPECIALIST AND HAD THE FUSES CHECKED AND THE FUSES WERE FINE BUT IT APPEARS I NEEDED A COMPLETELY NEW STEREO! MY CAR IS RELATIVELY NEW TO HAVE STEREO PROBLEMS, THIS IS UNHEARD OF! I HAVE ALWAYS GIVEN MY CAR THE PROPER MAINTENANCE AND I AM QUITE UNHAPPY WITH THIS ISSUE. HAVING LOOKED AT MULTIPLE OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE ONLINE I HOPE VW CAN ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM VERY SOON. *JS
EXTREME CRACKING OF TIRE SIDEWALL, ADJACENT TO THE BEAD AREA OF HANKOOK OPTIMO H725A. SIZE: 205/55R16 91H. DOT 1 GRP DY H 0211 THIS TIRE WAS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON A NEW 2011 VW JETTA SPORTWAGON TDI. IT HAD NEVER BEEN TAKEN OFF THE RIM AND WAS USED DURING NON-WINTER MONTHS ONLY, WITH APPROXIMATELY 35,000 MILES OF USE. THE DEFECT IS ON THE INNER SIDEWALL AND WAS DISCOVERED WHEN THE WINTER WHEELS/TIRES WERE BEING PUT ON THE CAR. IT IS FORTUNATE THAT THIS EXTREME CRACKING DID NOT CAUSE A HIGH SPEED CATASTROPHIC INCIDENT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN A RESIDENTIAL AREA, THE JETTA TDI ENGINE LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING AND THE ENGINE STARTED LUGGING. ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, THIS IS DUE TO A KNOWN DEFECT WITH THE INTERCOOLER HOSE THAT TRAPS CONDENSATION IN THE SYSTEM. WHEN THE CONDENSATION FREEZES, THE ENGINE IS DEPRIVED OF AIR. ACCORDING TO THE FORUM POST BELOW, THIS ISSUE IS VERY WIDESPREAD AND CAN SOMETIMES CAUSE ENGINE DAMAGE FROM HYDROLOCK. IF THE CAR IS MOVING AT HIGH SPEEDS WHEN THIS HAPPENS, IT CAN BE DANGEROUS. VW IS CHARGING CUSTOMERS WHO ARE OUT OF WARRANTY OVER $1,000 TO FIX A KNOWN DESIGN FLAW. A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED TO PROTECT CUSTOMERS FROM THIS PROBLEM. THE HORN ONLY WORKS SPORADICALLY, NOT SURE WHEN IT WILL OR WILL NOT FUNCTION. *TR
STANDING WATER IN THE WHEEL WELLS TRACED TO SUNROOF DRAINAGE HOSES NOT ATTACHED TO DRAINS BECAUSE THE CLIPS MEANT TO HOLD THE HOSE IN PLACE MALFUNCTIONED AND ALLOWED THE HOSE TO "BACK OUT" OF PLACE. THIS PROBLEM WAS NOT IMMEDIATELY APPARENT AS CAR IS USUALLY KEPT GARAGED. BODY SHOP, INTERNET DISCUSSIONS AND DEALERSHIP HAVE ALL REPORTED THEY BELIEVE THIS IS DUE TO A VW DESIGN FLAW. THIS IS NOT A RESULT OF CONSUMER NEGLECT, MILEAGE OR AGE OF CAR. THE CARPETING AND SOUND-DAMPENING UNDER PAD ARE TO BE REPLACED DUE TO MOLD AND MILDEW CONCERNS. TO REPAIR, THE HOSES WILL BE RECLAMPED INTO PLACE. TOTAL REPAIR COST ~$1700. VW WILL COVER PARTS CITING "PART FAILURE," BUT DECLINES TO COVER LABOR COSTS. PURCHASE OF "PLATINUM" LEVEL EXTENDED WARRANTY WITH NEW CAR WILL COVER ONLY 1/3 THE LABOR. *TR
NOVEMBER 2014 INCIDENTS: TWO INCIDENTS OF FAILING TO START. FIRST INCIDENT: CAR FAILED TO START ONCE AND STARTED ON SECOND TRY. SECOND INCIDENT: CAR SEVERAL TIMES FAILED TO START & ENGINE MADE CLANKING NOISE. HAD CAR TOWED TO VW AGENCY. CAR STARTED AFTER UNLOADED FROM TOW TRUCK AND AGENCY FOUND NOTHING WRONG. DECEMBER 2014 INCIDENT: CAR STARTED, BUT AFTER SLOWLY DRIVING TO PARKING LOT EXIT AND BEFORE AT FULL STOP, AT ENGINE QUIT AND WOULD NOT RESTART. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND BACKED DOWN A SLIGHT GRADE TO GET CAR OUT OF TRAFFIC; AFTER COMING TO A STOP THE CAR STARTED UP.

ALSO, THE HORN AND THE TEMPERATURE CONTROLS FAILED TO WORK. THE CONTACT WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V196000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
ANOTHER INSTANCE OF THE VW RADIO CEASING TO FUNCTION EVEN THOUGH THE FUSES ARE NOT BLOWN. RADIO WITH TOUCH PAD STOPPED WORKING, NO VOICE RECOGNITION OR CAR SPEAKER OUTPUT WHEN CONNECTED WITH THE BLUE TOOTH. NOT SURE EXACTLY HOW IT HAPPENED AS I ONLY OCCASIONALLY USE THE HANDSFREE AND HARDLY EVER USE THE RADIO.
MY EXTERNAL LIGHT MALFUNCTION INDICATOR WENT ON. I STOPPED AND SAW THAT THE LEFT RUNNING LIGHT AND THE RIGHT LOW BEAM LIGHT WERE OUT. I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON 2 HOURS LATER THE INDICATOR WAS OFF AND ALL THE LIGHTS WERE WORKING. TODAY I GOT THE WARNING AGAIN AND IT CYCLED THROUGH TO SHOW MULTIPLE EXTERNAL LIGHTS NEEDING REPLACEMENT. IT APPEARS THIS IS THE MELTED FUSE BOX ISSUE. I SEE THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON SOME VWS. IS THE 2011 JETTA TDI RECALLED FOR THIS? *TR

REAR TRUNK LIGHT WORKS INTERMITTENTLY
THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW DOES NOT STAY UP WHEN AUTOMATICALLY ROLLED UP FROM WINDOW BUTTON OR FROM LOCKING CAR USING KEY IN DRIVER SIDE DOOR.
DRIVING ON I-5 SOUTHBOUND IN OUR 2011 VW JETTA TDI; MY CAR DROPPED HORSE POWER AND THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT STARTED BLINKING. THE CAR DID NOT SHUT OFF, BUT THE HORSE POWER WAS CUT SIGNIFICANTLY. WE STOPPED AT THE NEXT INTERCHANGE 6 MILES AWAY AND CALLED VW. THEY SAID IT SHOULD BE LOOKED AT AND SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE NEXT MONDAY. I TURNED THE CAR OFF. IT RESTARTED AND THE GLOW PLUG LIGHT WAS NOT ON. CAR FUNCTIONED NORMALLY ON THE DRIVE HOME (35 MILES). I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP ON MONDAY AND THEY RAN SOME TESTS. THE HPFP ON THE ENGINE WAS OUT. IT SOUNDS LIKE IT IS A KNOWN ISSUE. IT IS COVERED BY MY 60 POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. BUT MY CAR ONLY HAS 34,000 MILES. IT SOUNDS LIKE THERE ARE QUITE A FEW ISSUES ON THIS TYPE OF TDI WITH THE HPFP. IS THIS SOMETHING THE NTSB WILL BE INVESTIGATING? *TR
TURNED MY VEHICLE ON AND HEARD THE RADIO POP AND HAS BEEN USELESS EVER SINCE. THE RADIO IN THIS VEHICLE CONTROLS EVERYTHING. I HAVE TALKED TO VWOA AND SEVERAL OTHER VW REPAIR SHOPS AND THEY HAVE TOLD ME THIS IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM AND I MUST PAY FOR DIAGNOSTICS AND REPAIR MYSELF. I AM VERY DISPLEASED WITH THE QUALITY OF PARTS AND SERVICE IN THIS VEHICLE. ALSO THE WAY EVERYONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS BUT LIES ABOUT IT REALLY GETS ON MY NERVES. ITS NOT RIGHT THAT A MULTI BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY CAN CONTINUE TO DO THIS TO PEOPLE LEGALLY. I HOPE THAT THERE ARE GOOD PEOPLE AT YOUR ORGANIZATION THAT CAN MAKE THIS RIGHT. DRIVING ON FREEWAY. TPMS LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN CHECKED, ALL THREE TIRES WHICH WERE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT (HANKOOK OPTIMO) HAD FAILED INSIDE SIDEWALLS. THESE TIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED. ACCORDING TO YOUR WEBSITE, THERE HAD BEEN A HANKOOK TIRE RECALL IN 2010 AND VOLKSWAGON DID NOT ADVISE MYSELF OR OTHER CUSTOMERS ABOUT THE DANGERS OF THESE TIRES WHICH A SIMPLE GOOGLE SEARCH WOULD REVEAL HAS RESULTED IN NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS AND POTENTIAL ENDANGERMENT OF BOTH THEIR CUSTOMERS AND OTHER INDIVIDUALS. FOR THE SAKE OF MY FELLOW VW OWNERS, I DON'T KNOW HOW TO GET THROUGH TO VW THAT THEIR SILENCE ON THIS MATTER IS DANGEROUS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ALONG WHEN THE RADIO MADE A POPPING NOISE. NOW IT NO LONGER WORKS AND I'VE LOST ALL ABILITIES TO USE MY HANDSFREE DIAL OR ANSWER FEATURES ON MY PHONE. RADIO NOW HAS A BLACK SCREEN AND WILL NOT POWER ON. THE LOSS OF HANDSFREE PHONE THROUGH MY RADIO IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN AND HAVING IT WAS A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR WHEN I MADE THE PURCHASE. *TR
DRIVING VEHICLE ON SOUTH BOUND I-5 GOING 60MPH RIGHT OUTSIDE OF THE TACOMA DOME IN FAR LEFT LANE WHEN VEHICLE SUDDENLY STARTED FLASHING ENGINE LIGHT AND ENGINE DIED AT THE SAME TIME. DRIVING THE CAR AT FREEWAY SPEEDS PRIOR TO TAKING THE EXIT. WHEN WE TOOK THE EXIT, THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO OVER 1000 RPM. THE VEHICLE WAS LIMPED TO THE SHOULDER WHERE IT DIED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE MECHANIC SHOP WHERE THEY ARE IN THE PROCESS OF REPAIRS. THE VW IS EQUIPPED WITH A 2.0L TDI ENGINE AND I HAVE READ MULTIPLE OTHER REPORTS OF THE SAME ISSUES OCCURRING INVOLVING THE HPFP FAILING. *TR
THE LATCH ON THE DRIVER SIDE HAS BECOME LOOSE. AS I WAS DRIVING OVER SPEED BUMPS, I NOTICED THE DOOR WOULD RATTLE HARD. I PULLED TO THE SIDE AND NOTICED THE LATCH ATTACHED TO THE CAR WAS LOOSE. I TIGHTENED UP THE SCREWS AND THE DOOR WAS ABLE TO CLOSE TIGHTLY AGAIN. A FEW WEEKS LATER, THE PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED AGAIN. I TIGHTEN THE SCREWS, BUT THIS TIME, THE DOOR CANNOT CLOSE FULLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
I WAS OPERATING THE CAR ON A HIGHWAY WHEN THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN REDUCTION IN POWER AND THE DASH DISPLAYED A FLASHING GLOW PLUG LIGHT AND SOLID CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF. THE ENGINE FAILED TO RESTART AND WAS TOWED TO A VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME THAT THE CAUSE WAS A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE (HPFP); IT TOTALLY CAME APART AND DISTRIBUTED METAL THROUGHOUT THE FUEL SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.

I HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR ABOUT AN HOUR MOSTLY ON THE HIGHWAY AND THEN SOME MODERATELY WINDING FOOTHILL ROADS. I BOUGHT A 2011 JETTA IN FEBRUARY 2011. TODAY, I AM TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT 'SOME WIRES' LOCATED UNDER THE SPARK PLUGS ARE SHORT-CIRCUITING AND NEED TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $830 + TAX. NOW, WHY ARE THERE 'SOME WIRES' UNDER THE SPARK PLUGS THAT ARE NOT SUFFICIENTLY INSULATED? AND, WHY ARE 'SOME WIRES' UNDER THE SPARK PLUGS ANYWAY? I WAS GOING DOWN I-24 AT 55 MPH AND THE CAR 'CUT OFF'! THE ONLY THING THAT SAVED MY LIFE IS THAT IT WAS RUSH HOUR AND THE TRAFFIC WAS BUMPER TO BUMPER. MY 3 YEAR OLD SON'S SEATBELT LOCKED AROUND HIM WHEN HE THRUST HIMSELF FORWARD IN HIS CAR SEAT. I ATTEMPTED TO GET HIM OUT, BUT HE HAD APPARENTLY PUT THE TOP PORTION OF THE SEATBELT BEHIND HIS NECK. THIS COMPLAINT IS FOR THE 2011 VW JETTA SPORTWAGON TDI . THERE IS A MANUFACTURE DEFECT THAT CAUSED THE FUSE BOX UNDER THE HOOD TO MELT. THIS CAUSED MOST OF THE LIGHTS ON THE EXTERIOR TO FAIL, WHICH INCLUDED THE HEADLIGHTS, TAILLIGHTS, BRAKE-LIGHTS, ECT. THERE WERE RECALLS ON SIMILAR MODELS, BUT NOT THIS SPECIFIC CAR. GLOW PLUG LIGHT STARTED BLINKING, THEN THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. SHIFTING BECAME ERRATIC. PULLED INTO A SERVICE STATION, AND ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF, IT WOULDN'T RESTART. AFTER BASIC CHECKS, THE FUEL PUMP WAS PULLED FOR INSPECTION AND METAL SHAVINGS WERE FOUND. IN RESEARCHING THE REPAIR, THE INDEPENDENT STATION SUGGESTED PUTTING THINGS BACK TOGETHER, AND HAVING IT TOWED TO THE DEALER, AS IT WAS SUSPECTED TO BE A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE BOSCH HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. IN FACT IT WAS, AND WHILE THE CAR WAS TWO MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY, THE DEALER WENT AHEAD AND COVERED THE REPAIR UNDER THE UNRELATED DRIVETRAIN WARRANTY. I CONSIDER MYSELF INCREDIBLY LUCKY THAT THIS WASN'T 15 MINUTES EARLIER, WHEN I WAS TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, ON AN INCREDIBLY FULL FREEWAY. IT COULD'VE BEEN A MAJOR ACCIDENT IF I HAD SUDDENLY LOST POWER. CONSIDERING THERE ARE ENTIRE WEBSITES DEVOTED TO TRACKING THIS ISSUE, I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL. *TR
DRIVING AT 45 MPH, ENGINE DID NOT STALL BUT LOST POWER. MOTOR STALLED AFTER ABOUT 10 SECONDS. AFTER PUTTING IN NEUTRAL AND ROLLING TO A STOP THE MOTOR WOULD NOT RESTART. AFTER TOWING TO LOCAL VW DEALER, WAS TOLD THE MECHANICAL FUEL PUMP FAILED. THEY SAID IT WAS 4-5 THOUSAND JOB BUT VW WAS PICKING UP THE REPAIR AND NOT CHARGING IT OUT TO OUR EXTENDED WARRANTY. CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE PROPERLY, REQUIRING THE PEDAL TO BE COMPLETELY DEPRESSED TO ACHIEVE ANY ACCELERATION EVEN TO LOW SPEEDS. AT THIS POINT, A BRAKE WARNING LIGHT APPEARED FOR THE FIRST TIME. VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO DEALER, JIM ELLIS VW IN THE ATLANTA AREA WHO TESTED THE MODEL AND DETERMINED THE ABS MODULE HAD FAILED. AFTER REPLACING THE ABS MODULE THE BRAKES LOCKED DURING A TEST DRIVE BY THE SERVICE STAFF. SUBSEQUENTLY THE BRAKE BOOSTER AND BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER WERE REPLACED. OWNER BELIEVES THAT THIS EARLY FAILURE OF SO MANY COMPONENTS ON A NEWER, VERY LOW MILEAGE VEHICLE LIKELY REPRESENTS MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SERIOUS INJURY. *JS

I WAS IN THE DRIVE THRU OF MC DONALDS THEN CAME A TERRIBLE RATTLE FROM UNDER THE CAR, 10 SECONDS LATER THE CAR TURNED OFF. WHILE DRIVING THROUGH TOWN 35 MPH MY TDI SPORTWAGON GLOWPLUG LIGHT STARTED FLASHING. I IMMEDIATELY TURNED INTO A PARKING LOT WITHIN SECONDS AND PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN PARK. THE CAR SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS NOT FIRING ON A CYLINDERS. I TURNED THE CAR OFF. AFTER THAT IT WOULD NOT START BACK UP. FROM WHAT I HAVE READ, IT HAS TO DO WITH THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP. THIS MADE THINGS UNSAFE AND THEIR ARE NO VISIBLE SIGNS OF LEAKS/ CORROSION/ OR SIGNS OF WEARING. THE MALFUNCTIONING FUEL SYSTEM CAUSED MY CAR TO FAIL AND STALL IN A BUSY INTERSECTION.
