CAR WAS RUNNING SMOOTH AND PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY AND THEN WOULDN'T TURN OVER. BATTERY POWER WAS FINE, HOSES WERE FINE(VACUUM OK) AND THEN IDENTIFIED THAT FUEL MIGHT BE THE PROBLEM, USED MULTIMETER TO IDENTIFY THAT FUEL PUMP UNDER BACK SEAT WAS DEAD AND PROMPTLY ORDERED A NEW ONE AND REPLACED IT. NOT EXPECTED FOR A CAR WITH 45,000 MILES AND A 2011 DIESEL BUT THIS IS APPARENTLY A COMMON PROBLEM. HAD IT IN FOR REGULAR MAINTENANCE AT THE DEALER TOO. *TR
WENT TO PASS A VEHICLE AND I FELT A SURGE THEN A SIREN SOUND STARTED COMING FROM THE RIGHT SIDE OF ENGINE. WAS TOLD BY DEALERSHIP IT WAS A VACUUM ISSUE AND IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. WHEN I GOT TO DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME IT WAS A BLOWN TURBO. WONDERING IF THIS IS TIED TO THE INCIDENT I HAD WITH THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILING AROUND 100K. TOO MANY MAJOR CATASTROPHIC ISSUES WITH THIS CAR. I'VE BEEN QUOTED 15,000 FOR REPAIRS ON A CAR I'M STILL MAKING PAYMENTS ON AND ONLY COST 28K TO BEGIN WITH. *TR
MY CAR HAS HAD 3 STALLS WITHIN 3 MONTHS. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE ASSEMBLY. SINCE THEN I WAS PULLING OUT OF A PARKING SPOT AND PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND THE CAR STALLED. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. *TR
DRIVING ON SURFACE STREET AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH. IN 2011 JETTA SPORTWAGEN TDI WITH ONLY 23000 MILES ."SERVICE NOW! " WARNING CAME ON AND CAR IMMEDIATELY STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AND WOULD NOT RESTART. HAD TO BE TOWED TO VW DEALER, HAS BEEN THERE 5 DAYS SO FAR WAITING FOR HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP REPLACEMENT. FROM INVESTIGATION, THIS IS NOT AN OBSCURE EVENT, IS KNOWN TO OCCUR WITH THIS MODEL AND YEAR TDI (DIESEL) ENGINES. IF THIS OCCURRED ON A HIGH SPEED FREEWAY, I COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN STRUCK AND KILLED WHEN CAR SUDDENLY STOPPED. *TR
PURCHASED THIS CAR NEW IN 2011. VW FIXED THE FUEL EXHAUST PORTS. ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND DEALER STATED THAT THE PARTICULATE FILTER AND CATALYTIC CONVERTER BOTH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ALSO WARNED THAT THE FUEL PUMP HAD SERIOUS ISSUES. I HAD ONE YEAR LEFT TO PAY THIS CAR OFF, IT HAD 90K MILES ON IT AND I HAD TO TURN IT IN. HOW CAN THEY GET AWAY WITH SELLING A BRAND NEW CAR FOR $28K TO HAVE IT CRAP OUT WITH NO REPERCUSSIONS LIKE THIS? *TR
GLOW PLUG & CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON , ENGINE DIED 30 SECONDS LATER. WOULD NOT RESTART, TOWED TO DEALER, DIAGNOSED HPFP CATASTROPHIC FAILURE, METAL DEBRIS IN FUEL SYSTEM. WHOLE FUEL SYSTEM REPLACED, TANK THROUGH TO INJECTORS. NO WARNING OF FAULT CONDITION WITH NO TIME TO PULL OFF TO SIDE OF ROAD, LEFT STUCK IN MIDDLE OF HIGHWAY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED AND EXPERIENCED A REDUCTION IN POWER. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL INJECTOR SYSTEM AND FUEL PUMP HAD FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND NO SOLUTION WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000.
I WAS CRUISING AT 60 MPH THIS MORNING WHEN THE GLOW-PLUG WARNING LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH AND THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS SHUT OFF IMMEDIATELY CAUSING AN UNEXPECTED DECELERATION. I PULLED INTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF ONCE I CAME TO A STOP. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESTART AND THE GLOW-PLUG LIGHT WAS JOINED WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I HAD IT TOWED TO MY MECHANIC WHO READ THE COMPUTER CODES AS "LOW FUEL PRESSURE TO THE INJECTORS". HE LOOKED INTO THE FUEL FILTER AND FOUND METAL SHAVING. HE STATED THOSE SHAVING POINT TO A COMPLETE FAILURE OF THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP (HPFP). I OWNED THIS CAR FOR ONLY TWO WEEKS AND, BASED ON VOLKSWAGEN'S REPUTATION AND THE REPUTATION OF THE TDI DIESEL ENGINE I EXPECTED TO OWN THIS CAR FOR YEARS. THE REPAIR COSTS ARE NOW ESTIMATED TO BE HALF THE PURCHASE PRICE I PAID LESS THAN A MONTH AGO. *TR
2011 JETTA HAS A RECALL (11V196000) FOR ELECTRICAL/FUSE WIRING. WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED THE PROBLEM THAT THE RECALL IS 4.WE HAVE NO ALARM HORN "CHIRP" OR HORN. WE CALLED THE DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT THE RECALL DID NOT INCLUDE THE TDI MODEL YET WE ARE HAVING THE PROBLEM THE RECALL IS 4. *TR
SINCE THE END OF MARCH, 2014, MY 2011 JETTA HAS COMPLETELY SHUT OFF WHILE IN IDLE. UNTIL RECENTLY IT HAS SHUT OFF WHILE IN DRIVE AT LOW SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE BEGINS BUCKING AND HAVING LITTLE HICCUPS, AND THEN IT JUST SHUTS OFF, SOMETIMES ABLE TO GET IT TO RESTART, OTHER TIMES IT DOES NOT TURN RIGHT BACK ON. I HAVE ALREADY HAD THE FUEL PUMP REPLACED, AND THE CRANK SENSOR, AND HAVE PAID HUNDREDS IN TESTING THUS FAR. I AM EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED AT THIS POINT. THE CAR HAS BEEN TO 2 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIPS, TWICE EACH, AND THE FIRST TIME IT WENT IN ANYWHERE WAS A LOCAL AUTO SHOP, BUT EVERY TIME SINCE IT HAS GONE TO AN AUTHORIZED VW DEALER. NO ONE CAN SEEM TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS GOING ON WITH MY CAR. THIS IS A VERY SCARY SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED, AND READING OTHER PEOPLES COMPLAINTS IT SEEMS I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WHO IS HAVING ISSUES WITH THEIR CAR SHUTTING OFF. *TR
I PURCHASED THE JETTA USED FROM CARMAX IN NASHVILLE, TN IN 2014. IT BEGAN HAVING SAFETY ISSUES ON MARCH 2014. RANDOMLY, MY CAR WILL JUST STOP WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, OR AFTER ACCELERATING FROM A STOPPED POSITION WHEN MOVING ON FROM A STOP SIGN OR STOP LIGHT. I CAN BE DRIVING ANYWHERE FROM 15 MPH TO 50 MPH, AND ALL SYSTEMS SHUT DOWN. THE BATTERY LIGHT GOES ON, THE STEERING LOCKS, AND THE BRAKES LOCK. I ALWAYS PANIC, PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND HAVE LUCKILY MANAGED TO VEER OFF TO THE SIDE OF A ROAD AND STOP, SHUT THE CAR OFF, AND TURN IT BACK ON AGAIN. EUROFIX TRIED TO MANAGE THE PROBLEM BY REPLACING THE CRANK SENSOR AND CAM SHAFT. BUT HE PROBLEM CAME BACK, MUCH WORSE. THE SECOND PROBLEM IS NOW I CANNOT UNLOCK MY DRIVERS SIDE DOOR WITH MY MAGNETIC KEY OR BY STICKING THE ACTUAL KEY IN THE LOCK. I SEE THAT ANOTHER RECALL HAS BEEN ANNOUNCED FOR THE 2011 JETTA THAT IS NOT PULLING UP VIA MY VIN NUMBER, BUT I BELIEVE IT MIGHT BE MY CAR'S ISSUE: ONLINE, ATE THAT IN MARCH 29, 2011 (PUBLISHED BY NHTSA) IN WHICH AN ISSUE WITH "AN ELECTRICAL WIRING AND FUSE LAYOUT WHERE THE CONVERTER BOX IS PROTECTED BY THE SAME FUSE USED BY THE SIGNAL HORN AND THE ANTI-THEY ALARM SYSTEM. SHOULD THAT FUSE BE BLOWN,, THE CONVERTER WILL BE DISCONNECTED FROM THE POWER SUPPLY WHICH IN TURN WILL SHUT OFF APPLICATIONS SUCH AS THE ENGINE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM, LIGHTING SYSTEM, AND WIPERS"......"SHOULD THIS HAPPEN WHILE THE VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN, THE ENGINE COULD STALL OR THE HEADLIGHTS OR WIPERS COULD TURN OFF UNEXPECTEDLY, POTENTIALLY LEADING TO A CRASH WITHOUT WARNING." PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!! WHAT DO I DO. WHAT WILL REMEDY THIS SITUATION SO I DON'T GET KILLED OR KILL OTHERS. I'T GONNA HAPPEN....THEN MY FAMILY WILL FILE A LAWSUIT. I NEED GUIDANCE AND FOR THIS CAR TO BE FIXED/TRADED OUT.
WHILE DRIVING ON 95 NORTH THROUGH PHILA MY 2011 JETTA TDI BEGAN TO LOSE POWER. I COULD NOT ACCELERATE AND THE VEHICLE EVENTUALLY CAME TO A STOP. IT WOULD NOT RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND AFTER EVALUATION I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP THAT FAILED. THIS WAS GOING TO BE AN EXTENSIVE REPAIR BUT VW WAS GOING TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WILL BE IN THE SHOP FOR APPROX. 4 TO 5 DAYS THEY SAY. THERE WAS APPROX 72,200 MILES AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. *TR
THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL SYSTEM FAILED IN OUR CAR WHEN WE WERE ON A ONE LANE HIGHWAY. 'ENGINE CONTROL MALFUNCTION' LIGHT STARTED FLASHING AND SUDDENLY OUR CAR WAS STALLED. WHEN WE LOOKED IN THE MANUAL IT SAID TO GET THE CAR TO A VW DEALERSHIP ASAP. WE HAD TO HOLD UP TRAFFIC UNTIL THE CAR WAS FINALLY TOWED. NOT ONLY THAT, WE WERE ON VACATION IN THE DIFFERENT CITY AND THIS HAPPENED DURING THE WEEKEND WHEN THE SERVICE CENTERS ARE CLOSED. AFTER A PAINFUL 2 DAYS WE JUST FOUND OUT THAT OUT HIGH PRESSURE FUEL SYSTEM HAS BROKEN AGAIN. IT WAS LAST REPLACED IN APRIL 2013 AND IT WAS EXACTLY THE SAME SITUATION. THIS IS A REALLY BIG STRUCTURAL DAMAGE AND HAPPENED WITH NO FAULT ON OUR SIDE. THE LAST ONE COST UP TO $10K, WHICH VW COVERED DUE TO WARRANTY. HOWEVER, IT IS ALSO A SAFETY HAZARD SINCE WE COULD HAVE EASILY GOTTEN INTO AN ACCIDENT. AFTER HAVING GONE THROUGH THIS TWICE, WE NO LONGER FEEL SAFE DRIVING THE TDI AND STRONGLY FEEL THAT THE CAR SHOULD BE RECALLED. *TR
ALL OF A SUDDEN, I WOULD TURN ON MY CAR AND MOST OF THE EXTERIOR LIGHTS WOULD NOT WORK, INCLUDING HEADLIGHTS, HIGH BEAMS, BRAKE LIGHTS, BLINKERS, AND DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS. IT WAS DANGEROUS TO SUDDENLY DRIVE WITHOUT LIGHTS WHEN IT WAS NIGHTTIME OR CHANGING LANES WITHOUT WORKING BLINKERS TO ALERT OTHER DRIVERS. I TOOK THE CAR IN TO GET IT CHECKED OUT AND APPARENTLY THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE IN RECENT VW CARS, THAT THE FUSE BOX IS MELTING THE FUSES. I READ MORE ABOUT IT ONLINE AND SOME PEOPLE DESCRIBED PROBLEMS WITH OTHER KEY PROCESSES FAILING LIKE POWER STEERING. I CAN'T BELIEVE VW HASN'T MADE A RECALL ON THIS BECAUSE IT HAPPENS TO SO MANY OF THEIR CARS AND REQUIRES AN EXPENSIVE PART REPLACEMENT. ALSO THIS PROBLEM SEEMS TO HAPPEN TO OTHERS IN THE 10000 MILES BEYOND THE WARRANTY OF A CAR IN 36000 MILES. THAT IS BEING UNFAIR AND DISHONEST TO CUSTOMERS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HORN WAS INOPERABLE. THE CONTACT WAS MADE AWARE OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V196000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED.THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE WIRING FOR THE HORN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AT 70MPH WHEN MY ENGINE CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON. I LOST ALL POWER IN THE CAR. ONCE I LET GO OF THE PEDAL, THE CAR BEGAN TO STALL. WHILE PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL COMPLETELY, I COULDN'T GO ANY FASTER THAN 60MPH. ONCE I GOT OFF AT AN EXIT AND HAD TO COME TO A STOP, THE CAR COMPLETELY STALLED AND WOULD NOT START AGAIN. THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP HAD APPARENTLY FAILED.I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED TO VW TO BE DIAGNOSED AND THEY STATE IT IS THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP, AND THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE. WHILE I WAS STILL AT THE VW SERVICE CENTER IN OCALA, I CALLED VW USA, WHO CLAIMS THEY ARE NOT HAVING ANY PROBLEMS WITH THESE PUMPS AND ASKED WHERE I GOT THIS INFORMATION. I HAD TO DEMAND TO SPEAK WITH A SUPERVISOR WHICH THEY WOULD NOT LET ME TALK TOO. THE REP PUT ME ON HOLD TO SPEAK WITH THEM. FINALLY SHE CAME BACK AND SAID SHE WAS JUST MADE AWARE OF SOMETHING THAT I NEED TO GO TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AND SPEAK WITH HIM. I DID SO AND HE SAID THAT HE IS PUTTING IN A SPECIAL REQUEST FOR CUSTOMERS THAT ARE OUT OF WARRANTY. I NOW HAVE BEEN WAITING 3 DAYS WITH NO RESPONSE. THE SERVICE MANAGER HAS BEEN VERY HELPFUL AND KIND IN ATTEMPTING TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE, SO THE ISSUE IS NOT WITH THEM. THE ISSUE IS THAT I AM ABLE TO SEARCH THE INTERNET AND FIND IN A MULTITUDE OF SITES, WHERE THESE VEHICLES ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE, YET I AM STILL WAITING AFTER 3 DAYS TO GET MY VEHICLE REPAIRED. I DID NOT PUT ANY REGULAR GASOLINE IN MY VEHICLE. I AM A DIE HARD DIESEL CUSTOMER AND KNOW BETTER. I AM ALSO ABLE TO VIEW THE OPEN INVESTIGATION THROUGH THIS SITE WHICH INCLUDES MY 2011 VW JETTA TDI. A CO-WORKER OF MINE ALSO JUST HAD THIS EXACT PROBLEM WITH HIS 2012 VW JETTA TDI, WITH SIMILAR MILEAGE, AND EVEN HAD A SECOND FAILURE, BOTH OF WHICH VW COVERED AT NO COST TO THE CUSTOMER, I AM BEGINNING TO GROW EXTREMELY FRUSTRATED WITH THIS SITUATION I WOULD LIKE IT RESOLVED. *TR
MY WINDSHIELD WASHER FLUID SENSOR CAME ON, AND IT DOES NOT TURN OFF. I DID SOME READING ONLINE, AND THIS SEEMS TO BE A SYSTEMIC ISSUE. MOST OF THE COMPLAINTS WERE FROM PEOPLE WHO USED RAINX WASHER FLUID. APPARENTLY IT CAUSED CORROSION TOO QUICKLY. NOW, I DON'T WANT TO USE MY WASHER FLUID AS OFTEN, SO THAT I CAN MAKE SURE THAT I DON'T RUN OUT WHEN I NEED IT. MY VISIBILITY DURING DRIVING IS AFFECTED BY THIS. *TR
THE EFFECTED CAR WAS A DIESEL MODEL 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA TDI SEDAN WITH 48,074 MILES ON THE ODOMETER AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. WHILE TRAVELING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH IN NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS, THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN REDUCTION IN POWER AND DISPLAYED A FLASHING GLOW PLUG LIGHT AND SOLID CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHTS. THE VEHICLE WAS IMMEDIATELY PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WHERE THE ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF. THE ENGINE FAILED TO RESTART AND WAS TOWED TO A VOLKSWAGEN DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THE VOLKSWAGEN DEALER DETERMINED THAT A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE VEHICLE'S HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP (HPFP) HAD OCCURRED. THE DEALER FOUND THAT EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM HAD RESULTED FROM THE FAILURE, CAUSING INTERNAL METAL DEBRIS CONTAMINATION THAT REQUIRED SUBSTANTIAL REPAIRS. THE TOTAL COST OF REPAIRS WERE REPORTED BY THE DEALERSHIP TO EQUAL $6,500.00. *TR
THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEATBELT HAS STARTED UNRAVELING SIGNIFICANTLY ALONG ONE EDGE, WITH THE THREADS SEPARATING; THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR SEVERAL MONTHS. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW AND HAS ABOUT 40,000 MILES ON IT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING THE 2011 VW JETTA ON 1/5/14 DURING RAIN SHOWERS I SWITCHED THE WIPERS ON (WHICH I HAD PREVIOUSLY USED APROX 5 MINS BEFORE) & NOTHING HAPPENED, THEN I REALIZED THAT THE TURN SIGNALS WERE ALSO NOT WORKING INCLUDING THE HAZARD FLASHERS.. UPON REACHING MY HOME AT REDUCED SPEEDS IN ORDER TO SAFELY MAKE IT HOME I ATTEMPTED TO MAKE THE NEEDED REPAIR TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE, THINKING THE ISSUE WAS A BLOWN FUSE, BUT AFTER FURTHER INVESTIGATION NO BLOWN FUSES ARE PRESENT & AT THE CURRENT TIME VW SERVICE DEPT. DENIES THAT ANY PART OF THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM IS FAULTY & ALTHOUGH THE PROBLEM IS STILL CURRENTLY NOT FIXED. ALONG WITH OTHER ELECTRICAL FUNCTIONS SUCH AS THE POWER WINDOWS & DOOR LOCKS NOT FUNCTIONING DUE TO THIS ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTION THE VEHICLE WILL NOT CRANK & START USING THE IGNITION SWITCH. I FEEL THIS PROBLEM IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT VW NEEDS TO ADDRESS & OFFER A RECALL BEFORE SUCH A MALFUNCTION RESULTS IN A FATAL INCIDENT DUE TO NOT BEING ABLE TO CLEARLY SEE THE ROADWAY DURING RAINY CONDITIONS. *TR
I BEGAN EXPERIENCING ISSUES WITH THE ANTI-THEFT/LOCKING SYSTEM ABOUT LATE 2013/ EARLY 2014. THE LOCKING SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS AND THE DOORS DO NOT LOCK, BUT ALSO WHILE DRIVING THE LOCKS CONTINUOUSLY CLICK WHILE TRYING TO ENGAGE. I SPOKE TO MY LOCAL VW DEALERSHIP VIA PHONE ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AND RECEIVED MULTIPLE ANSWERS, BUT ULTIMATELY WAS TOLD THE COST WOULD BE AROUND $500-600 DOLLARS TO REPAIR, OUT OF MY POCKET. I WAS UNAWARE OF THE RECALL INFORMATION AT THAT TIME AND COULD NOT AFFORD THIS AT THIS TIME. THEN, IN LATE DECEMBER OF 2015 MY HORN SUDDENLY, WITHOUT WARNING, STOPPED WORKING AS WELL. I DID RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT BOTH ISSUES WERE PROBABLY RELATED TO THE RECALL NUMBER: 11V196000 RECALL DATE: 03/29/2011. I SPOKE TO VW CUSTOMER CARE AND WAS INFORMED OF OTHER RECALLS AS WELL. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE VW DEALERSHIP TO HAVE ALL RECALLS PERFORMED AND WAS REASSURED THAT THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE WITH THE HORN AND ANTI-THEFT WOULD BE EXAMINED, ALONG WITH THE OTHER RECALLS. THAT SAME DAY I EMAILED THE SERVICE LEAD WITH THE RECALL INFORMATION AND WAS TOLD THAT MY VIN DID NOT MATCH THIS RECALL AND THAT I WOULD NEED TO BRING MY VEHICLE IN, AGAIN, FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND/OR REPAIR (SERVICES TO BE PERFORMED OUT OF MY POCKET). ACCORDING TO THE DOCUMENTATION PROVIDED BY NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V196000 MY VEHICLE IS A MATCH TO THE SPECIFIC VIN ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECALL. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE, AS I UNDERSTAND IT HAS TO DO WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONING AND COULD VERY WELL CAUSE OTHER PARTS OF THE VEHICLE TO MALFUNCTION. ACCORDING TO THE DOCUMENTATION NOT ALL VEHICLES IN THIS RECALL WERE ACCOUNTED FOR, AND I BELIEVE MY VEHICLE IS PART OF THE UNACCOUNTED VEHICLES.

ON 11/21/13 DEALERSHIP INFORMED ME THAT HPFP HAD EXPLODED SENDING METAL SHAVINGS INTO ENGINE, THEY ASKED ME IF I ACCIDENTALLY PUT GAS AND I RESPONDED WITH NO. THEY STATED THAT FUEL MAY HAVE BEEN CONTAMINATED. DEALERSHIP IS REPAIRING CAR SINCE IT IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY, SAID MAYBE 1 WEEK IN THE SHOP. I WAS GIVEN A RENTAL IN THE MEANTIME. *TR

THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45000.
DURING MID MOTION, WITH FOOT ON THE GAS, THE VEHICLE DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. NO WARNING INDICATIONS APPEARED ON THE DASH. THE SPEED OF TRAVEL WAS APPROXIMATELY 35MPH. THE CAR WAS TOWED BY AAA. SERVICE AT VW HAS YIELDED INCONCLUSIVE RESULTS. THERE ARE NUMEROUS FORUMS ON EDMUNDS DETAILING AND ACCOUNTING THIS SEEMINGLY UBIQUITOUS AND POTENTIALLY FATAL FLAW. AS IT STANDS, VW IS PERSISTENT IN THERE STANCE TO DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. THEY REFUSE TO ISSUE A REFUND OR EXCHANGE ON CERTIFIED CARS. I WANTED TO FOLLOW UP ON MY PREVIOUS CLAIM. AS STATED IN MY PREVIOUS NOTE, I NOTICED THE ODOR A FEW MONTHS AFTER PURCHASING MY CAR. A FEW YEARS AFTER I GOT MY CAR, I DEVELOPED A MOLD ALLERGY AND IT WAS GETTING HARDER FOR ME TO BREATHE. THE ONLY TIME THE ISSUE OCCURRED WAS WHEN I WOULD DRIVE MY CAR. SO, I HAD TO GO TO THE ALLERGY DOCTOR. THEY DID A FEW TESTS AND FOUND OUT I HAD A MOLD ALLERGY. A FEW WEEKS LATER, I KEPT SMELLING A SMELL FROM MY AC. I ASKED A FRIEND TO COME AND CHECK ON MY AIR FILTER IN MY CAR. HE PULLED IT OUT AND IT WAS FULL OF MOLD. HE TOLD ME THAT THE CAR WAS RETAINING MOISTURE IN MY A/C UNIT AND THAT IT IS PROBABLY WHAT IS HURTING MY ALLERGIES. WITH THAT BEING SAID, I HAVE TO CHANGE MY FILTER AT LEAST ONCE A MONTH. ONE, TO MAKE SURE THAT IT DOESN'T MOLD. TWO, SO THAT I CAN BREATHE. WITH THAT BEING SAID, MY ALLERGIES BECAME WORSE AFTER I DISCOVERED THE MOLD. I HAD TO GO BACK ON MY ALLERGY SHOTS FOR AWHILE. BECAUSE MY ALLERGIES GOT SO BAD, EVEN WITH MY SHOTS AND OTHER MEDICATION, IT MESSED WITH MY BREATHING. SO, I HAD TO HAVE AN IN OFFICE PROCEDURE TO RELEASE SOME OF THE PRESSURE TO HELP ME BREATHE BETTER. ALL OF THIS TO SAY, VW KNOWS THAT THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH THEY AC SYSTEM HOLDING MOISTURE AND IT MAKING THE CAR HAVE A MOLDY SMELL TO IT. THIS IS DANGEROUS FOR PEOPLE WITH ALLERGIES AND WE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO SUFFER, DUE TO A MANUFACTURERS CARELESSNESS. I FEEL AS IF THEY SHOULD REACH OUT TO ANYONE WITH AFFECTED VEHICLE OWNERS AND FIGURE OUT A SOLUTION TO THIS MATTER. HELLO. THERE IS AN ISSUE WITH MY 2011 VW JETTA'S AC SYSTEM. THERE IS AN AWFUL ODOR. IT SMELLS MOLDY AND MUSTY(MUSKY). I WENT TO A DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME TO CHANGE MY AIR FILTER AND A FEW OTHER THINGS. IT WORKED FOR ABOUT 4 DAYS AND THE SMELL CAME RIGHT BACK. I HAVE TALKED TO OTHER JETTA AND A PASSAT OWNER ONE 2012 AND ONE 2013, THEY ALSO HAVE THE SAME ISSUE. AT FIRST MY CAR HAD A BURNING SMELL COMING FROM THE SYSTEM WHEN I STARTED MY CAR AND TURNED THE AIR ON. A FEW MINUTES LATER AN ODOR FILLED MY VENTS. THIS HAPPENED AFTER I PURCHASED MY CAR IN 2013. ABOUT 6 MONTHS LATER. I HAVE CONSTANTLY CHANGED THE FILTERS AND WILL BE GETTING A NEW AIR COMPRESSOR SOON, BUT. I WAS TOLD THAT IT MAY NOT HELP THE SMELL FROM THE SYSTEM. THIS WOULD INDICATE HEAT ON ONLY ONE SIDE OF THE FUSE. I THINK WE CAN AGREE THIS IS NOT A FUSE ISSUE, BUT A WIRING OR SUPPLY ISSUE. WITH THE KNOWLEDGE THAT WHEN YOU TRY AND RUN TO MANY AMPS THROUGH TOO SMALL A WIRE IT CREATES EXCESS HEAT I WOULD VENTURE THAT VW PUT TOO SMALL A WIRE ON ONE SIDE OF FUSE 16. THE FUSE BLOCK IS IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT IN FR OF THE BRAKE BOOSTER. THE 16 FUSE IS TOWARDS THE BACK OF THE BLOCK AND THE BURNT SIDE WAS TOWARDS THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. I AM NOT SURE HOW WORRIED I WOULD GET ABOUT THIS, BUT SIMPLY PUT A FEW 30AMP FUSES IN THE GLOVE BOX. YA THERE IS AN ISSUE THERE, BUT THE FIRST ONE LASTED 39K." I HAVE THE FUSE. I CALLED THE TOW TRUCK COMPANY AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO VW DEALER IN SCHAUMBURG, IL ( FOX VALLEY VW) DEALER SAID THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILED. VWOA COVER THIS UNDER POWER TRAIN WARRANTY 5/60K WARRANTY. THE DEALER REPLACE HPFP,LIFT PUMP, PUMP IN GAS TANK,FUEL LINES TO ENGINE,COILS ETC... REPAIRS CAME TO ROUGHLY $5300.00. VWOA ONLY GIVE 12/12K MILES WARRANTY ON THE HPFP. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM ON SOME VW WITH CJAA 2.0L TURBO DIESEL ENGINES AND VWOA HAS NOT FOUND THE DEFECT IN THE HPFP.VWOA SHOULD EXTEND THE HPFP TO 100K MILES DUE TO DEFT IN THE HPFP SINCE THEY HAVEN'T FOUND THE PROBLEM AND CORRECTED IT. *TR

I WAS TOLD THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM WAS DESTROYED BY THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP, AND IT WAS POSSIBLY BE DUE TO THE DIESEL I USED, BEING DIRTY OR OTHERWISE CONTAMINATED. I HAD ALL MY RECEIPTS FOR DIESEL FILL-UPS FROM THE SAME STATION, AND IT WAS LISTED ON THE VW.COM WEBSITE AS A LOCATION FOR DIESEL. THE TANK WAS SUPPOSEDLY EMPTIED AND FILTERED DURING THE REPAIR AND I WAS NOT INFORMED OF CONTAMINATION. ON READING FURTHER I NOTE THAT MANY TDI OWNERS HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM WITH NO ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FROM VW THAT THIS IS A FUEL PUMP PROBLEM, NOT A CUSTOMER MISUSE OF DIESEL FUEL. I ALWAYS SHOULD GET INSIDE FROM OTHER DOOR AND OPEN THE APPLICABLE FROM INSIDE. THIS IS HAPPENING TOO OFTEN SO IT IS BEING COMMON FOR ME TO OPEN THE DOOR FOR MY KID WHO USUALLY SITS IN THE BACK. IF THERE IS ANY ACCIDENT AND WHETHER POLICEMAN OR FIREMAN SHOULD OPEN THE DOOR FROM OUTSIDE, THIS PROBLEM CAN CAUSE SEVERE DELAY ON RESCUE THE PASSENGER WHO SITS IN THE BACK, USUALLY CHILDREN BECAUSE THE DOOR IS NOT BEING OPENED BY ANYHOW FROM OUTSIDE. I DECIDED TO DRIVE STRAIGHT TO THE DEALER TO DROP IT OFF. OVER THE NEXT FEW MINUTES THE CAR PRODUCED LESS AND LESS POWER (A FEELING AKIN TO RUNNING OUT OF GAS, BUT THERE WAS STILL 1/2 TANK OF DIESEL IN THE CAR) UNTIL IT DIED AND WOULD NOT RESTART. NO OTHER WARNINGS, NO OTHER DRIVABILITY CUES, JUST A DEAD CAR ON THE FREEWAY UNABLE TO BE STARTED OR MOVED. THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE INDICATING THAT A HEADLIGHT, SIDE LIGHT, BRAKE LIGHT, AND REAR LIGHT WERE OUT. I INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND ALL LIGHTS WERE WORKING. THE INDICATER HOWEVER KEPT COMING ON. UPON TAKING INTO THE SHOP TO CHECK ON THE REPAIR I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS IS DUE TO A DEFECTIVE FUSE BOX IN THE VEHICLE WHICH GETS "HOT" AND SHORTS THE BOX OUT. VW IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM BUT NOT ENOUGH PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED TO WARRANT A RECALL. WHEN I ADVISED THAT THIS MAY RESULT IN A POSSIBLE FIRE OR SHORTING OUT OF THE SYSTEM - MAYBLE CAUSING A STALL I WAS TOLD "IT COULD HAPPEN.". THE FUSE BOX WAS REPLACED WHICH COST $785.27. FORTUNATELY, THIS BOX IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY OF THE REPAIR BECAUSE I AM HAVING THE PROBLEM AGAIN FOR A SECOND TIME. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA SPORTS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH, AN UNUSUAL WIRE SYMBOL WARNING ICON ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL IN ADDITION TO A REDUCTION IN ENGINE POWER. AFTER DRIVING 30 ADDITIONAL MILES, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART AND WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. AFTER THE REPAIR WAS PERFORMED, A DIFFERENT UNKNOWN WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 109,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
ON THIS DATE (6-19-2013) MY ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON, AFTER THAT MY EPC LIGHT FOLLOWED. THEN I LOST SPEED ON MY CAR, I THEN PULLED OVER AT THE GAS STATION. I THEN NOTICED MY HORN WAS NOT WORKING. I SAT AT THE GAS STATION AFTER I TURNED THE CAR OFF FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES. TRIED TO START THE CAR UP AGAIN, THEN IT STARTED BACK UP AND I DROVE HOME, BUT THE ENGINE LIGHT WAS STILL ON. I DIDN'T THINK MUCH OF IT AT THAT POINT, A WEEK LATER I HAD THE OIL CHANGED. APPROXIMATELY TWO MONTHS LATER (WHICH WAS IN AUGUST) I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. SO I CALLED VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA AND EXPLAINED TO THE CS REP MY ISSUE. THEY ADVISED ME TO TAKE MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP; WHICH I DID. THE GENTLE THAT ASSISTED ME BROUGHT OUT A LAB TOP COMPUTER AND RESET WHAT EVER IT WAS HE RESET ON THE CAR AND THE ENGINE LIGHT WENT OFF AND THE CAR DROVE FINE. THEN HE TOLD ME THAT I NEEDED A FULL TURN UP AND THAT IT WOULD COST ME $700, BECAUSE MY WARRANTY WOULD NOT COVER THE TURN UP ON THE CAR. IN ANY CASE, MY VW JETTA DRIVE FINE FOR ABOUT FOUR DAYS,I HORN STILL DIDN'T WORK. ABOUT TWO WEEKS INTO SEPTEMBER OF 2013, I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK AND THE CAR WOULD NOT START FOR AN WHOLE HOUR. IN THE MIST OF MY DILEMMA, LATE FOR WORK; I HAD VV OF AMERICA ON THE PHONE TELLING THE REP, COREY WHAT WAS HAPPENING WITH THE CAR. HE ADVISED ME TO TAKE THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP AS WELL. WHICH I MADE AN APPOINTMENT TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE CAR NEEDED A TURN UP AS WELL. BUT THEY WERE CHARGING ME A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF MONEY FOR THE TURN UP. I GOT A FULL TURN UP ON THE CAR AND NOW MY CAR SHAKES UNCONTROLLABLY, THE EPC LIGHT STAYS ON. IT'S ONLY DRIVING 40 MPH AS WE SPEAK. I HAD A PROFESSIONAL TO CHECK THE ENGINE AND FROM WHAT THEIR DIAGNOSIS, TWO DEAD CYLINDERS (PO CODES P0351 AND P0353) AND A BAD COMPUTER. I AM GETTING NO FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FROM VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA, PER COREY CS REP FROM VV OF AMERICA. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 VOLKSWAGEN JETTA WAGON. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, THE COIL LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE THEN STALLED AND THE CONTACT SMELLED FUEL INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND EXITED TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT THEN NOTICED A FUEL LEAK ON THE GROUND AND ON THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER BUT WAS NEITHER DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SPUTTER. THE GLOW PLUG COIL LIGHT BEGAN TO FLASH AND THE CAR STALLED WHILE ON THE INTERSTATE. TRIED TO MOVE IMMEDIATELY TO THE SHOULDER ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT AT HIGH SPEED. TURNED THE KEY OFF AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYED ON. DROVE IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP UNDER VERY REDUCED POWER. THE DEALER HAD JUST COMPLETED MY 40,000 SERVICE ONLY HOURS BEFORE. NOW BEING TOLD THAT THE HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP AND ONE OF THE INJECTORS IS BAD. CLAIMING BAD FUEL BUT THAT IS NOT CORRECT. HAVE ONLY BURNED HIGH QUALITY DIESEL IN THE VEHICLE AND HAD ALL SERVICES DONE. APPEARS THAT THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM ON THESE CARS AND IT'S AMAZING SOMEONE HAS NOT BEEN HURT. VW NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. THE ESTIMATE TO REPAIR IS $10K AND IT'S NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY. *TR
2011 VOLKSWAGEN TDI JETTA. CAME TO A THREE WAY LIGHT, THE LIGHT CHANGED, I HIT THE GAS AND THE CAR DIED. I WAS IN THE TURN LANE AT THE BOTTOM OF A HILL AT A BUSY INTERSECTION. I TRIED SEVERAL TIMES TO RESTART TO NO AVAIL. NO ENGINE CODES OR ERROR MESSAGES. HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY FOUND METAL SHAVINGS IN THE FUEL FILTER. PARTS ARE BEING ORDERED AND THE FUEL SYSTEM IS BEING REPLACED. WAITING TO HEAR WHEN THE PARTS ARE IN AND THE WORK IS COMPETED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ALONG AND THE POWER DROPPED TO ALMOST NOTHING. BEFORE I COULD GET TO A SAFE STOPPING POINT, THE ENGINE DIED. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY DIAGNOSED IT WITH A FAILED HIGH PRESSURE FUEL PUMP(HPFP). IF IT HAD BEEN OUT OF WARRANTY, IT WOULD HAVE COST $6000 TO REPAIR. IF THIS WOULD HAVE HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF A 4 LANE EXPRESSWAY, I DON'T KNOW WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. *TR
VEHICLE HAS NO FUSE DIAGRAM AND LIGHTER FUSE REPEATEDLY BLOWS.UNABLE TO GET HELP ON LEASED VEHICLE WITHOUT PAYING FOR SERVICE. I UNFORTUNATELY CANNOT ACCESS SIMPLE FUSES WITHOUT HAVING A DIAGRAM. I WAS PUT IN HARMS WAY BY ACCIDENTALLY REMOVING BRAKE LIGHT FUSE. I AM NOT ABLE TO FIND A DIAGRAM ON THE INTERNET OR VW WEBSITE. *TR
WAS DRIVING AND HEARD A CLICKING SOUND, SHORTLY AFTER MY STEERING AND BRAKES LOCKED UP, AND THEN THE ENTIRE CAR STALLED. I WAS UNABLE TO RESTART THE ENGINE. HAD CAR TOWED INTO THE VW DEALERSHIP WHERE THEY TOLD ME MY FUEL (DIESEL FOR JETTA TDI) WAS CONTAMINATED CAUSING THE FUEL PUMP TO BURST WHICH LEAD TO METAL SHARDS DESTROYING THE ENTIRE FUEL SYSTEM. HOWEVER, I AM 100% POSITIVE, AND HAVE RECEIPTS FOR PROOF, THAT THE CAR HAD BEEN FILLED UP WITH DIESEL GAS ABOUT 1 WEEK PRIOR TO THE INCIDENT AND WAS RUNNING COMPLETELY SMOOTHLY UP UNTIL THE SUDDEN BREAK DOWN. *TR
THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED WHILE WE WERE STOPPED. I WAS TRYING TO GET MY 3 YEAR OLD OUT OF THE CAR WHEN THE DOOR WOULDN'T UNLOCK. BECAUSE WE HAVE CHILDREN, WE ALSO USE THE CHILD SAFETY LOCKS TO PREVENT THE DOOR FROM OPENING FROM THE INSIDE. THE LOCKS HARE REPEATEDLY FAILING TO EITHER LOCK OR UNLOCK. WHAT CONCERNS ME IS THAT THERE WOULD BE AN EMERGENCY SITUATION IN WHICH THE DOORS WOULD NOT UNLOCK AND MY CHILD (OR CHILDREN) WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GET OUT. A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH SHOWS THAT THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH SOME OF THE VOLKSWAGEN DOORS. IF YOU DO NOT HAVE THE CHILD SAFETY LOCKS ENGAGED, THIS BECOMES MUCH LESS OF AN ISSUE. HOWEVER, THESE LOCKS COULD LEAD TO A VERY UNFORTUNATE SITUATION WITH A SMALL CHILD IN THE BACK SEAT, UNABLE TO BE REMOVED FROM THE VEHICLE. *TR
