There are 50 owner-reported engine complaints for the 2010 Chevrolet Camaroin NHTSA's database. These are unverified consumer reports and may not reflect confirmed defects.
The contact owns a 2010 Chevrolet Camaro. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, there was an abnormal chirping sound coming from the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. Due to the failure, the vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic where shards of metal were found coming out of the rocker arm inside the engine. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be inspected. The contact was informed that either the lifters, the cam shaft, or the engine might need to be replaced. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000. The VIN was not available.
The engine timing is wrong. The camshaft and the reluctor misalign and cause the engine to loose performance. The problem was diagnosed by a Chevrolet dealership because of the illuminated "check engine" light. This seems to be a major historical issue with these type engines produced by Chevrolet. The engine was replaced.
My 2010 camaro has the 3.6 v6 engine in it. I had no warning lights or issues with the car. I got in my car and started to drive on a highway the engine exploded on me and I swerved out of control luckily being able to stop the car on the right side of the road. I had the car towed to my house where it sat for months unable to be driven. I have been doing more and more research trying to figure out why it blew up. Me and my passenger could have died that day with how badly the force of the engine through the car out of control. And the chunks of steel that flew from under my car almost killed 2 kids in a car behind me. And upon talking to an associate who is a gm certified mechanic but he doesn't work for a dealership his diagnosis was the timing chain went bad prematurely and snapped and set off a chain reaction making the motor explode. During my time researching I have discovered this issue is already known by general motors for this engine having premature timing chain wear down. I have pictures of other 2010 camaro owners complaints of this issue. I also am aware gm has faced several class action law suits due to this issue. They put a recall out on the engine but specific vin numbers. So when I called gm customer service asking why I can't get my car repaired and my engine replaced they told me it was due to not being a vin number they included in the recalls even though they are aware it is the same engine. The recall should be for all vin numbers for this engine. My safety as well as others safety was put at risk for a known defect. This issue could happen to anyone with this engine and people could be killed due to it and those that survive the situation when it arises get left without a working vehicle. Now my car sits in my driveway without an engine. There should be a mass recall for all the engines. My 2010 Chevy Camaro has a check engine light for a code P0008 which is an engine preformace bank 1 code. It is affecting my acceleration. I have noticed with other General Motors vehicles that have the 3.6L V6 have thrown this code for a timing chain issue around 100,000 miles and I belive other makes and models have been recalled for this issue and was concerned that it could be unsafe. I also wanted to know why this has not already been recalled on this make and model but has on others. If you could look in to this that would be great. Thank you
WHEN I GO TO PUT GAS IN MY CAR WHEN I GO TO START IT . IT DOESN'T WANNA START THE CAR WILL TURN OVER AND SPUTTER AND WON'T START YOU TURN IT OFF AND IT WILL STILL BE SPUTTERING ON IT'S ON WITH THE IGNITION OFF THAN AFTER MIN IT STOPS THAN U GO TO CRANK IT AGAIN DOES SAME BUT YOU HAFT TO PUT THE PEDDLE TO FLOOR TO GET IT TO LEVEL OUT YOU CAN'T PUMP GAS RUNNING IT MAKES A WIRED NOISE FROM THE THE GAS TANK ... IT IS AT GAS STATIONS WHEN THIS HAPPENS AND SOMETIMES ON HIGHWAY WILL SPUTTER ...EVEN SITTING A RED LIGHTS ...DRIVING
ENGINE CODE P008, TIMING CHAIN REPLACEMENT REQUIRED AT 75,000 MILE, APPROXIMATELY A $2000 REPLACEMENT COST, MANY OTHER VEHICLES WITH THE EXACT SAME ENGINE HAS HAD RECALLS FOR THIS PROBLEM, CHECK ENGINE DOES NOT ALLOW THIS VEHICLE TO PASS CALIFORNIA SMOG, REGISTRATION OF THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE COMPLETED, LOCAL DEALERS NOT HELPFUL, ENGINE COULD SEIZE IF THE TIMING CHAIN ASSEMBLY FAILS CAUSE ACCIDENTS RESULTING IN INJURY OR DEATH.
THE 2010 CAMARO WITH THE 3.6L LLT MODEL ENGINE HAS PREMATURE TIMING CHAIN ISSUES. THESE CHAINS ARE STRETCHING OUT AND CAUSING PERFORMANCE ISSUES AND CAUSING ENGINE FAILURE. MY VEHICLE GAVE ME A DECREASED ENGINE POWER WARNING WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND DECREASED MY SPEED DRAMATICALLY. I HAD TO FLOOR THE GAS PEDDLE TO KEEP IT ABOVE 40 MPH IN A 65 MPH SPEED LIMIT. IT WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. I HAD THE ENGINE LIGHT DIAGNOSED AND WAS TOLD IT WAS A WORN TIMING CHAIN AND THAT 2 CAMSHAFTS WERE NOW OUT OF ALIGNMENT. GM HAS RECALLED ALMOST ALL OTHER VEHICLES WITH THE SAME ENGINE AND TIMING CHAIN FOR THIS ISSUE. THEY HAVE ALSO DISCONTINUED USE OFF THE CHAIN ITSELF AND SELL A DIFFERENT MODEL FOR REPLACEMENT. BUT THEY REFUSE TO RECALL THE 2010 CAMARO FOR THIS ISSUE SO THE ONLY OPTION IS TO REPLACE THEIR DEFECTIVE PRODUCT WITH THE NEWER ONE OUT OF POCKET.
I HAVE THE 2010 CAMARO V6, WITH ONLY 67,700 MILES. LIKE TOO MANY OTHERS, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND IT GAVE A P0008 ERROR CODE FOR PREMATURE TIMING CHAIN WEAR. WHY HASN'T GM ISSUED A RECALL FOR THE CAMARO WITH THIS ENGINE WHEN THEY'VE ISSUED A RECALL FOR NEARLY ALL OTHER VEHICLES WITH THIS ENGINE?!? I SHOULD NOT BE FACING AN ESTIMATE OF OVER $2,000 TO REPLACE THE TIMING CHAIN WITH ONLY 67,200 MILES!
HAD NEW TIMING CHAIN ADDED WITH OIL CHANGE ENGINE LOCKED UP. INSURANCE WON'T, HELP. PLACE I BOUGHT THE CAR WON'T HELP
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET CAMARO. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE ENGINE SEIZED AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIMING GEAR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
THE TIMING CHAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT ONLY 100,000 MILES. GARAGE STATED THAT IT WAS SO BAD THAT ENGINE COULD HAVE FAILED AND IGNITED A FLAME IN THE ENGINE.
I WAS DRIVING HOME ONE DAY AND THE CAR NO LONGER WANTED TO GO SO I SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY ROLLED DOWN A HILL AND WENT INTO THE PARKING LOT THE CAR NO LONGER WANTED TO START I THOUGHT IT WAS THE BATTERY OR THE ALTERNATOR SO I CHANGED BOTH I EVEN CHECKED MY OIL TO MAKE SURE I WAS GOOD ON THAT END I ENDED UP GETTING THE CAR TOWED BACK TO THE HOUSE THE MECHANIC CHECKED IT OUT AND NO CODES WERE POPPING UP THE CAR WAS STATIONARY AND RAN BUT I TRIED TO GO DOWN THE STREET AND IT JUST STOPPED THEN THE AREA AROUND MADE SOME STRANGE NOISES AND THE MECHANIC SAID IT MIGHT BE THE ENGINE I THEN TOOK IT THE SHOP AND I WAS TOLD IT'S THE ENGINE I JUST DIDNT NOT KNOW WHAT THE ISSUE WAS IT'S A 2010 CAMARO 6 CYLINDER WITH A 3.6 LLT ENGINE AND MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH IT BUT I DON'T KNOW IF CHEVY EVER DID ANYTHING ABOUT IT IT WAS ON A CITY STREET WHEN IT STOPPED ITS JUST BEEN SITTING SINCE IT WENT BAD AND THE 2012 AND UP MODELS ENGINE COST AROUND $1700 BUT THE 2010'S ENGINE COSTS OVER $3000 MANY PEOPLE STATE THAT IT'S MORE EXPENSIVE BECAUSE OF HOW MANY PEOPLES ENGINES HAVE GONE BAD AND IT'S USUALLY AROUND 100K MILES IT'S WAS ALWAYS SERVICED AND WHEN IT WOULD STOP THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD LOCK UP AND WOULD NOT WANT TO START
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET CAMARO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REDUCE ENGINE POWER INDICATOR ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH. THE FAILURE OCCURRED SEVERAL TIMES WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED ONCE AS A POSSIBLE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST THE VEHICLE ONTO THE ROAD SHOULDER. ONCE THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED, IT OPERATED NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 114,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 CHEVROLET CAMARO. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY, THERE WAS A DRASTIC REDUCTION IN SPEED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEACON JONES CHEVROLET (1115A N BRIGHTLEAF BLVD, SMITHFIELD, NC 27577, (919) 934-8101) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN IF THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO THE MANUFACTURER SERVICE CAMPAIGN: 12-06-01-009E APR 14 (ENGINE - TIMING CHAIN KITS AND CHAIN GUIDE REPLACEMENT). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND WAS PARKED AT THE CONTAC'TS RESIDENCE DUE TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000.
EARLIER IN 2018, THE CAR WAS INTERMITTENTLY THROWING A P008 CODE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WITH NO NOTICEABLE DIFFERENCE IN THE MILEAGE OR RUNNING. IT WOULD COME ON, THEN GO OFF FOR WEEKS. OIL WAS CHANGED EVERY 3-5000 MILES. NOW THE LIGHT IS ON AND WILL NOT GO OFF, SHOWING ONLY THE SAME CODE OF P008. I CAN NOT PASS YEARLY STATE EMISSION INSPECTIONS WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. THE LOCAL GM SHOP INDICATED THAT THE CODE MEANS THAT I NEED A NEW TIMING CHAIN. I HAVE THE 3.6 LITER MOTOR WITH 92000 MILES. FOR OTHER GM MODELS WITH THIS ISSUE AND THE 3.6 L MOTOR, GM EXTENDED THEIR WARRANTY AND COVERED THE COST OF REPLACING THE TIMING BELT, BUT THEY EXCLUDED THE CAMARO. I HAVE RECEIVED ESTIMATED COSTS OF 1200 TO 2100 TO REPLACE THE TIMING CHAIN. THIS COST IS MORE MONEY THAN I HAVE, BUT I MAY NOT HAVE A CHOICE. I DO NOT WANT TO BE ON THE ROAD WHEN THE TIMING CHAIN BREAKS AND I AM IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSTATE TRAFFIC.
I HAVE THE V6 2010 CAMARO AND LIKE MANY OTHERS THAT I HAVE RESEARCHED ON THE WEB HAVE THE P0008 ERROR CODE FOR PREMATURE TIMING CHAIN WEAR THAT STARTED AT AROUND 80K MILES. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ISSUED ON JUST ABOUT EVERY OTHER CAR THAT HAS THIS ENGINE IN IT. IT IS RIDICULOUS THAT GM WOULD NOT ISSUE IT ON THIS CAR AS WELL FULL ON KNOWING THAT THIS WOULD HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM.
VEHICLE OVERHEATING RESULTING IN SHUTDOWN - I'VE TAKEN THE VEHICLE INTO 2 GM DEALERSHIPS WHO FIRST REPLACED THE WATER PUMP AND FLUSHED THE SYSTEM AFTER THE VEHICLE STRANDED ME IN THE MIDDLE OF A HIGHWAY INTERSECTION. WHEN I CAME TO A STOP I HEARD THE FANS STARTUP AND THE TEMPERATURE ROSE TO 250F+ IN ABOUT 30 SECONDS AND INITIATED AN ENGINE SHUTOFF PROCEDURE, WHICH CUTS OFF ALL POWER TO THE CAR. AT THAT POINT I WAS DEAD IN AN INTERSECTION OF A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY. THIS HAPPENS WITHOUT WARNING AND DOES NOT INITIATE A EVENT TO THE CAR'S COMPUTER. THE GM DEALER SAID THEY CONSIDER AN OVERHEATING EVENT A NOTICE AND NOT A WARNING EVENT SO IT IS NOT RECORDED ON THE CARS COMPUTER EVEN THOUGH IT CAUSES THE CAR TO BE SHUTDOWN. THIS HAS OCCURRED 2 TIMES IN THE 6 MONTHS AND I HAVE REPLACED THE WATER PUMP, RADIATOR PRESSURE CAP, FLUSHED THE SYSTEM ALL ON ADVICE FROM THE GM DEALER TO CORRECT FOR THIS PROBLEM WITHOUT SUCCESS. THE SECOND TIME THIS OCCURRED WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AS I GOT TO A BORDER CHECKPOINT RESULTING IN ME BEING STRANDED ON THE HIGHWAY FOR AN 1.5 HOURS WAITING FOR A TOW TRUCK. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO A ANOTHER GM DEALER WHO TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. THEY DON'T SEEN TO KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THE ISSUE AS THEY ARE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE WHEN I BRING THE CAR INTO THEM AND THERE IS NO EVENT FOR THEM TO TRACK.
P0008 TIMING CHAIN CODE COMING UP FOR V6 ENGINE (2LT MODEL) AT 70K MILES. READING SEVERAL FORUMS AND RESEARCHING THAT THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE ON OTHER GMS WITH THE SAME PART. WHILE THEY GRANTED 10 YEAR/120K WARRANTY FOR OTHER MODELS, THE CAMARO IS LEFT OUT. COST IS ANYWHERE FROM $1800-$3000. NOT SURE WHY CAMAROS ARE NOT BEING INCLUDED WITHIN THE RECALL WHEN WE HAVE TO SAME PARTS AND ISSUES. PLEASE ASSIST!!!
ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, SEVERAL CODES, THREE OF WHICH HAVE A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN. CODES ARE P0007, P0008, P0017. TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER IS 374076. VEHICLE HAS LOSS OF POWER. DO NOT WANT TO DRIVE FOR FEAR OF THROWING OFF THE TIMING SINCE ALL OF THESE INVOLVES POSITIONING SENSORS FOR THE CAMSHAFT AND CRANK SHAFT.
My name is Kenneth Brown 'Kenny', and I purchased my 2010 Chevy Camaro 1LT 3.6L V6 from Ron Tonkin Chevrolet here in Portland, Oregon right off of their lot brand new. Now on the the bigger issue that has never been addressed to this day...the faulty 3.6L V6 motor. If you were to look at the wrecking yards across the country, you will find many 2010 & some early 2011 Camaro's with dead motors well before 75k miles, because my motor went out at 69K miles in 2017. McLaughlin Chevrolet the Dealership that replaced my motor stated that "They don't replace motors with only 69k miles on them", but they did, and that wouldn't be the last motor replacement they would do on the same car! Two weeks before the warranty expired on the replacement motor in September 2020 with 102,233 miles, McLaughlin Chevrolet replaced the GM vendor replacement motor with what is currently in my car. So is it normal to have had (3) OEM GM motors in one car with just 102k miles? There is a more serious/dangerous underlining issue here that GM, or anyone will acknowledge, and that is, just before the two previous motors went out, there was this engine warning light that has popped up each time, and that was the "Engine Power is Reduced". And where the safety concern lies is when this engine warning light comes on, it reduces your engine power almost down to a complete stop. How wonderful it is when your in heave traffic doing 45mph to 50mph and you loose engine power in heavy traffic! Now GM has attributed the engine warning light to a Timing belt issue, and this has been an issue since 2010. When this warning light comes on, not only is the engine power reduced, the bigger issue is that the power steering is reduced drastically. If you are not a seasoned driver that has driven a vehicle that has no power steering in it, then it becomes a serious issue...RIGHT, especially when your in heave traffic doing 45 to 50mph, because it put me right into the retaining cement barrier on the highway
