THERE IS A LEAK IN MY FUEL TANK ON THE 2007 EQUINOX AND ITS A SERIOUS HAZARD, MY SON RIDES IN THE BACK SEAT AND THE FUEL TANK IS DIRECTLY UNDER THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT, YOU CAN SMELL THE GAS, SO A SMALL FENDER BENDER OR SOMEONE TOSSING A CIGARETTE OUT THE WINDOW AND THE CAR WILL EXPLODE, WHAT IS BEING DONE ABOUT THIS DEATH TRAP ON WHEELS, NOT THE FIRST MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD ON THIS CAR, THAT WAS THE STEERING MOTOR THAT LOCKED UP ON ME WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. GM NEEDS TO FIX THIS. ASAP *TR
HAVE HAD MY 2007 EQUINOX SINCE 2009 WITH A FEW PROBLEMS. STABILITRAC LIGHT COMING ON....A/C NOT TURNING ON....WINDOW WASHER FLUID NOT SPRAYING. BUT TODAY, OUT OF NOWHERE, A GAS SMELL. NO VISIBLE LEAK, JUST THE SMELL. AFTER SEARCHING ON LINE AND SEEING NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM, I WONDER, DO I TRY AND FIND OUT THE PROBLEM THROUGH A MECHANIC AND PROBABLY SPEND A FORTUNE OR WAIT TO SEE IF A GM REALIZES THERE IS A PROBLEM AND WAIT FOR A RECALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE FUEL PUMP, CAUSING GAS FUMES TO BE EXPOSED. A LOCAL MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A LEAK IN THE FUEL TANK. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIRS TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 106,000.
07 CHEVY EQUINOX LT- 60000 MILES ON IT. THIS VEHICLE IS ONLY DROVE TO WORK AND BACK. WE GOT TO SMELLING GAS REALLY BAD THURSDAY 09/29 WHEN I WOULD ENTER THE VEHICLE. PUT GAS IN ON FRIDAY 9/30 AND WHILE CAR WAS RUNNING YOU COULD SEE THE GAS LEAKING. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THEY COULD NOT TELL ME IF THE PROBLEM WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRENTY. BUT THEY COULD TELL ME IT WOULD BE $200.00 JUST FOR THEM TO LOOK AT IT, AND IF IT WASNT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY THEN $1000-1500 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. WE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP BACK AND TOLD THEM WHERE IT WAS LEAKING... THE PARTS DEPT ISNT SURE WHAT TO ORDER. IM NOT SPENDING THAT AMOUNT ON AN I THINK THIS WILL FIX IT. I AM ALSO BEING TOLD YOU CAN ONLY ORDER THIS PART THROUGH CHEVROLET. *TT *KB
HUSBAND GOT HOME AND PARKED IN DRIVEWAY. I GOT HOME ABOUT A HOUR LATER AND PARKED BEHIND HIM. WHEN I GOT OUT OF MY CAR I COULD SMELL GAS. IT WAS COMING FROM THE RIGHT PASSANGER SIDE OF HIS CAR. THERE WAS NO GAS ON THE GROUND. I CALLED GM TO SEE IF THIS IS COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY AND THEY DID NOT KNOW. I WAS TOLD BY A SOMEONE AT GM THAT SEVERAL OF THESE CARS WERE RECALLED FOR THIS BUT MINE WAS NOT ONE OF THEM. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME IT COULD BE $1000+. I CALLED GM AND FILED A COMPLAINT. THEY SAID THEY WOULD CALL THE DEALERSHIP AND CALL ME BACK. I HAVE NOT YET HEARD FROM THEM. MY HUSBAND HAD TO RENT A CAR IN THE MEANTIME. THIS SOUNDS LIKE A SAFTY ISSUE TO ME. GM SHOULD REPAIR THIS PROBLEM. *TT
EXTREME GASOLINE SMELL FROM RIGHT REAR OF VEHICLE. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP AND THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL PUMP MODULE COST $998.47. WE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE #12190 , SUBMITTED A CLAIM AND WAS DENIED DUE TO THE LEAK WAS ON THE DISCHARGE LINE INSTEAD OF THE VENT LINE.THE WHOLE PART IS FAULTY AND CAN CAUSE A FIRE OR SERIOUS INJURY. *TR
I GOT INTO MY CAR AFTER GROCERY SHOPPING. I STARTED THE CAR, PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AND TRIED TO TURN. MY CAR WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN, SO I CHECKED MY RPMS TO MAKE SURE MY CAR WAS ACTUALLY STARTED. THE SPACE IN FRONT OF ME WAS EMPTY, SO I PULLED FORWARD AND TRIED TO TURN AGAIN. MY CAR WOULDN'T TURN AT ALL, SO I CALLED MY HUSBAND AND HE CAME AND DROVE MY CAR HOME. WE LIVE ONLY A FEW MILES FROM THE STORE AND THERE IS ONLY ONE TURN. HE SAID IT TOOK ALL OF HIS STRENGTH TO TURN INTO OUR NEIGHBORHOOD. WE HAD THE FUSE TESTED AND IT IS NOT THE FUSE. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT SMELLED GAS AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS LEAKING AND WAS DRIPPING ONTO THE EXHAUST PIPE, CAUSING SMOKE TO ESCAPE FROM THE HOOD OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
BAD FUEL SMELL AT THE REAR OF VEHICLE. FUEL DRIPPING FROM FUEL TANK. AFTER REMOVAL OF FUEL TANK A LEAK WAS FOUND COMMON TO PRESSURE LINE CONNECTED TO TOP OF FUEL PUMP. NOTE: THE EXHAUST PIPE IS ROUTED UNDER THE FUEL TANK AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRE. FIRST NOTICED THE CAR WOULD NOT START ON FIRST ATTEMPT. DID NOT NOTICE THE FUEL LEAK UNTIL THE CAR WAS PARKED IN THE GARAGE AND HAD FILLED THE GARAGE WITH FUMES. *TR
VEHICLE SMELLS LIKE GASOLINE EVEN AFTER VEHICLE SITS OVERNIGHT. SMELL GETS WORSE AFTER DRIVEN. NOTHING IS VISIBLY LEAKING FROM VEHICLE. I GOOGLED "GAS SMELL 07 EQUINOX" AND AM AMAZED THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH NUMEROUS 07 EQUINOX OWNERS. OF COURSE MY VEHICLE IS NOW 16 DAYS OUT OF WARRANTY, SO ANY REPAIRS FROM GM'S FAULTY PRODUCT WILL NOW BE AT MY EXPENSE. RIDICULOUS THAT IT IS HAPPENING WITH SO MANY VEHICLES, ALL UNDER 100K MILES AND GM HAS YET TO RECALL AND CORRECT THEIR CRAPPY PRODUCT. MY GUESS IS THEY ARE WAITING FOR SOMEONE'S VEHICLE TO CATCH FIRE AND INJURE OR KILL SOMEONE BEFORE THEY TRY TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. NEXT TIME, I WILL BUY HONDA AGAIN. MY WIFES CAR STARTED TO SMELL LIKE GASOLINE ON 9/15/11 ON THE OUTSIDE. AT FIRST WE THOUGHT IT WAS MAYBE A LITTLE GASOLINE THAT HAD SPILLED. LATER THAT NIGHT SHE PARKED THE CAR INSIDE THE GARAGE AND LATER WENT BACK TO GET SOMETHING OUT OF THE GARAGE AND IT SMELLED VERY STRONGLY OF GASOLINE. SHE CALLED ME AND WE DECIDED TO TAKE THE CAR OUTSIDE OF THE GARAGE. I PERSONALLY CHECKED THE OUTSIDE OF THE CAR EVERYWHERE FOR A POSSIBLE LEAK AS WELL AS THE GARAGE FLOOR FOR ANY GAS LEAK, BUT FOUND NOTHING. WE STARTED TO WORRY AND IMMEDIATELY WENT ONLINE AND TYPED IN "MY 2007 CHEVY EQUINOX SMELLS LIKE GAS" AND HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS CAME UP FOR THAT SAME YEAR/MAKE/MODEL IN REGARDS TO THE FUEL SYSTEM WITH THE EXACT SYMPTOMS. TODAY 9/16/11 MY WIFE EXPERIENCED THE OTHER SYMPTOM MOST PEOPLE WERE TALKING ABOUT ONLINE WHICH IS THE CAR STRUGGLES TO TURN ON. WE ARE VERY SCARED AND BELIEVE SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE BECAUSE THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. LIVING IN FLORIDA WHERE IT GETS VERY HOT WHEN IT COMES TO GASOLINE IT IS NOT SOMETHING TO JOKE ABOUT. MY WIFE ALSO TRAVELS WITH MY 2 1/2 YEAR OLD AND IT SCARES ME THAT SOMETHING WORSE MIGHT HAPPEN. HOPEFULLY THIS CAN GET RESOLVED ASAP. IN THE MEANTIME SHE WILL BE DRIVING MY CAR UNTIL WE CAN RESOLVE THE ISSUE. *TT
I WAS DRIVING THE TRUCK AND IT JUST SHUT DOWN ON ME. SINCE THEN I HAVE GOTTEN A NEW ALTERNATOR, STARTER, BATTER, BATTERY CABLES, FUSES, EGR VALVE, AND POWER RELAY SWITCH. THE CAR IS STILL NOT HOLDING A CHARGE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED, HE NOTICED A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF FUEL LEAKAGE ON THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THE FUEL TANK EXHIBITED A CRACK AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED A PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED WITH A PASSENGER IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V344000 (AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
RAW GASOLINE LEAKS ONTO THE GROUND FROM ABOUT 12" FORWARD OF THE RIGHT REAR TIRE AND 14" TOWARD THE CENTER OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
MY EQUINOX IS FULL OF WATER WHERE THE SPARE TIRE IS AND IT THE WATER HAS LEAKED ALL INTO THE RUGS. I DID NOT KNOW HOW THIS WAS HAPPENING UNTIL THE PAST RAIN STORM. WHEN WE LOOKED AT THE SPARE TIRE COMPARTMENT IT WAS FULL OF WATER. MY CAR SMELLS LIKE MILDEW AND MY DAUGHTER HAS HAD A HORRIBLE COUGH FOR THE PAST FEW WEEKS. I FEAR SHE HAS MOLD IN HER LUNGS. WHEN I GO ONLINE THERE ARE MULTIPLE COMPLAINTS ON THIS SAME ISSUE. IT SEEMS THERE IS A FAULTY SEAL AND IT LEAKS ALL THROUGH THE CAR. IT TOOK YEARS TO GET THE RECALL FOR THE ELECTRICAL ISSUES IN MY CARE THAT BROKE DOWN AT LEAST 5 TIMES FROM FAULTY SPARK PLUGS. NOW CHEVY WANTS ME TO $370 FOR THEM JUST TO LOOK AT THE CAR. PLEASE LOOK INTO AS I CANNOT AFFORD THE COST OF THIS AND MY CAR MAKES SQUISHING NOISES AND SMELLS SO HORRIBLY THAT I PROBABLY CANT EVEN SELL IT. *TR
CANNOT REMOVE KEY FROM IGNITION. KEYS (BOTH KEYS THAT WERE ISSUED WITH THE CAR) WILL GO INTO THE IGNITION WITHOUT A PROBLEM, BUT WHEN TRYING TO REMOVE THE KEYS, THEY WILL NOT COME OUT. YOU HAVE TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON, WIGGLE THE STEERING WHEEL AND TAKE THE CAR OUT OF GEAR AND PUT BACK IN PARK, SOME TIMES SEVERAL TIMES. YOU WILL FINALLY HEAR A CLICK, LIKE UNLOCKING OF THE DOORS AND THE KEYS WILL COME OUT OF THE IGNITION. TOOK TO A DEALER AND THEY SAID THERE WAS A RECALL, THEY WORKED ON THE CAR BUT IT STILL DOES THE SAME THING. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR OVER 3 YEARS. SOME TIMES THE PROBLEM GOES AWAY FOR WEEKS AT A TIME AND THEN RETURNS. *TR
MY WIFE STARTED SMELLING GAS AFTER DRIVING OUR 2007 CHEVY EQUINOX. AT FIRST WE THOUGHT IT WAS A POSSIBLE LOOSE GAS CAP, BUT AFTER CHECKING THE SMELL BECAME WORSE OVER THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS. I DID SOME FURTHER CHECKING ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND A POSSIBLE PROBLEM FROM OTHERS THAT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I LOOKED UP UNDER THE VEHICLE AND FOUND A FUEL LEAK COMING FROM THE TOP OF THE GAS TANK AND RUNNING DOWN THE SIDE NEXT TO THE FUEL FILL NECK THAT'S LOCATED VERY CLOSE TO THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. AT THAT POINT WE STOPPED DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND CALLED OUR LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND WHERE TOLD THAT IT WAS MOST LIKELY A FUEL PUMP ISSUE AND WE NEEDED TO BRING IT IN TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. THE GUESSTIMATE COST IS ABOUT $1000.00 PARTS AND LABOR IF THAT WAS THE PROBLEM. I DECIDED TO REMOVE THE FUEL TANK MYSELF SINCE I HAVE BEEN A MECHANIC FOR 20+ YEARS. I WAS CORRECT THAT IT'S A CRACKED IN THE FUEL PUMP PIPE ON THE TOP OF THE GAS TANK THAT'S PART OF THE FUEL PUMPASSEMBLY. THE LEAK WAS SOAKING THE ELECTRIC CONNECTORS FOR THE FUEL PUMP AND RUNNING DOWN THE TANK NEXT TO THE EXHAUST SYSTEM. I CONTACTED THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT MY VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY HAVE NOT SEEN AN ISSUE WITH THIS BEFORE. THE TOP OF THE TANK IS VERY PROTECTED. THERE IS NO SIGNS OF DAMAGE FROM SOMETHING FROM THE ROAD THAT MIGHT HAVE HIT IT OR ANYTHING ELSE THAT MAY HAVE CAUSED THIS PROBLEM OTHER THAN STRESS FROM NORMAL USE. AS I SEARCHED THE INTERNET MORE FOR THIS ISSUE I HAVE FOUND VERY MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE AND WHO KNOWS HOW MANY THAT HAVE NOT BEEN REPORTED. THIS IS A SERIOUS FIRE ISSUE AND I FEEL IT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2007 CHEVROLET EQUINOX IN 2010. IT HAS A PROBLEM WITH SERVICE STABILITRAK AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. I CALLED SERVICE ADVISOR AT CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND NEEDS TO RUN DIAGNOSTIC TO FIND OUT PROBLEM WITH STABILITRAK. THE VEHICLE HAS OVER 71,000 MILES, SHOULD BE COVERED WITH DRIVE TRAIN WARRANTY. I WILL NEED TO PAY FOR DIAGNOSTIC FIRST, THEN THE PROBLEM WILL BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. I FEEL THE WARRANTY FOR DRIVE TRAIN SHOULD COVER THE DIAGNOSTIC CHARGE AND PARTS, LABOR. NOW I CANNOT BRING VEHICLE IN TO SERVICE UNTIL $$ ARE COVERED FOR DIAGNOSTIC CHECK. THE WARRANTY COVERS USED CARS DRIVE TRAIN. LET ME KNOW, AND LET THE DEALERSHIP KNOW ABOUT THIS COMPLAINT. I HAD TOLD THE CHEVY DEALER THE AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT STATES "WARNING PLEASE SERVICE" THEY TOLD ME IT WAS AN OLD CODE. A FEW MONTHS LATER I READENDED ANOTHER DRIVER AND MY AIRBAGS DID NOT OPEN UP. THEY DID CRACK BECAUSE I FELT THE BURN ON MY ARMS. YET, I'M BEING TOLD IT WAS AN OLD CODE AND THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH THEM. NOW THE LIGHT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME AND NO ONE WILL LISTEN TO ME. I'M AFRAID THERE COULD BE A MALFUNCTION AND IT COULD HURT ME OR MY FAMILY, BUT NO ONE WILL LISTEN TO ME. *TR

MY MOTHER INLAW AND WIFE HAVE A 2007 EQUINOX WITH 59 THOUSAND MILES ON IT SMELT GAS FUMES FOR A WHILE NOW IT IS POURING GAS FROM TOP OF GAS TANK CAN NOT DRIVE SHE IS 75 YEARS OLD HAVE TO TAKE HER EVERY WHERE IN BORED CAR .CAN NOT AFFORD TO HAVE IT FIXED *TR

IN ADDITION, A SMALL AMOUNT OF FUEL WAS VISIBLE ON THE GROUND. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER:12V459000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) HOWEVER, THE CONTACT'S VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE FUEL TANK MODULE WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,634. I STARTED SMELLING GAS WHILE DRIVING AND EVEN WHEN IT WAS PARKED. WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE OR DRIVE UPHILL IT WOULD SPUTTER AND CHOKE LIKE IT WASN'T GETTING ENOUGH GAS.
I HAVE NOT HAD AN ACCIDENT, SO THE ABOVE DATE, MILEAGE AND SPEED ARE ESTIMATES. WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, THE SERVICE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON. THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT ALSO WENT OFF. IT LATER CAME BACK ON. MY WIFE WAS SITTING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AT THE TIME. ANY TIME WE GO SOMEWHERE, THIS HAPPENS NUMEROUS TIMES. I FEEL THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE SENSOR UNDER THE SEAT CUSHION IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE NHTSA HAS A RECALL ON 437 UNITS FOR THIS PROBLEM AND YOUR CAMPAIGN # IS 07V34400. ACCORDING TO THE MAN NAMED ROB I SPOKE WITH AT GM, MY VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THAT RECALL. I FEEL THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM AND DON'T FEEL LIKE MY WIFE OR EITHER ONE OF MY CHILDREN WOULD BE PROTECTED IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT WHERE THE AIRBAG NEEDS TO DEPLOY. IT MAY NOT DUE TO THIS DEFECTIVE SENSOR. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF YOU CAN OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE IN GETTING THIS TAKEN CARE OF WITHOUT ME HAVING TO PAY FOR IT. I AM ON DISABILITY INCOME AND TRYING TO SUPPORT A FAMILY OF FOUR LEAVES NO MONEY FOR SUCH THINGS. I FEEL LIKE GM SHOULD HAVE TO COVER THIS, SINCE IT'S A DEFECT ON THEIR PART, AND NOT MINE. IS THERE ANY WAY YOU COULD ADD MY VEHICLE TO THE RECALL NOW THAT I'VE MADE YOU AWARE OF IT AND GIVEN YOU THE VIN #? WE'RE PLANNING A 1,500 MILE ROUND TRIP ON THE 23RD OF JUNE TO TRAVEL TO OUR CHURCH CONVENTION AND WOULD LIKE TO HAVE THIS PROBLEM RECTIFIED BEFORE MAKING THE TRIP, IF AT ALL POSSIBLE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN SMELLING LIKE GAS AFTER DRIVING. THE SMELL IS IN THE CAR AFTER DRIVING, PARKING FOR A FEW AND GETTING BACK IN THE CAR. 2007 CHEVROLET EQUINOX LT, NOTICED RAW GAS SMELL COMING FROM RIGHT REAR OF VEHICLE. TOOK TO REPAIR SHOP AND WAS ADVISED THAT THE PLASTIC GAS TANK HAD A CRACK IN IT WHERE THE NECK GOES INTO THE TANK. UPON CHECKING ONLINE I SEE OTHER PEOPLE HAVING SAME PROBLEM. CONTACTED CHEVROLET SERVICE AND GOT NO WHERE. HAD REPAIR SHOP REPLACE TANK WITH NEW TANK. WITH NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS SEEN ON SAME PROBLEM IT SEEMS LIKE THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH TANK. ALSO IS A SAFETY RISK WITH GAS LEAKING OUT OF SIDE OF TANK FOR POSSIBLE FIRE
THE GAS TANK/FUEL PUMP BEGAN EMITTING A FUEL ODOR IN THE SUMMER OF 2011. I THOUGHT THAT IT WAS FROM RECENTLY FILLING THE TANK. IT WAS A HOT TEXAS SUMMER WHEN THIS BEGAN TO HAPPEN. THE SMELL WOULD COME AND GO WITHOUT REASON. IT DID HAPPEN MORE OFTEN IN THE SUMMER. THIS PAST WINTER, WHEN HAVING ROUTINE OIL CHANGE AND INSPECTION, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE FUEL PUMP HAD A CRACK IN IT AND THAT IS WHERE THE GAS ODOR WAS ORIGINATING. IT WAS UNDER RECALL, BUT CHEVROLET KEEPS SAYING THAT OUR VIN NUMBER HAD NOT COME UP. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP AT NEARLY $900.00. CHEVROLET KEEPS DENYING OUR CLAIM. IT APPEARS THAT IT HAS DENIED MANY, MANY CLAIMS. WE HAVE RECEIVED THE ORIGINAL RECALL LETTER BUT THEY HAVE NOT RECALLED MY SPECIFIC VEHICLE. I WOULD THINK THAT SOMETHING THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF AS FAR BACK AS 2010 SHOULD BE REPLACED AND REIMBURSED WITHIN LESS THAN 6 MONTHS AFTER YOU PERSONALLY HAVE IT REPAIRED. *TR

I HAVE A 2007 CHEVY EQUINOX AND I SMELL GAS FUMES BUT THERE IS NO LEAK. I STARTED SMELLING THE SMELL OF GAS OVER A MONTH AGO. AFTER DRIVING THE FUMES ARE REALLY STRONG. THERE ARE NO VISIBLE LEAKS JUST THE SMELL OF GAS. THE SMELL IS ON THE RIGHT SIDE WERE THE GAS CAP IS. I CHECKED THE GAS CAP AND IT IS CLOSED PROPERLY. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC AND AFTER DIAGNOSING WITH A SMOKE MACHINE HE FOUND THE LEAK TO BE COMING OUT OF THE PRESSURE RELIEF HOSE BEHIND THE REAR TIRE WALL ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. HE REPLACED THE VAPOR CANISTER ($98.59 + TAX & LABOR) THAT IS SUPPOSE TO PREVENT ANY PRESSURIZED GAS VAPORS TO RECYCLE BACK INTO THE GAS TANK. THE SMELL IS STILL THERE! APROX 2 WEEKS AGO I STARTED SMELLING GAS COMING FROM THE BACK PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. SMELL HAS PROGRESSIVELY GOTTEN WORSE OVER THE LAST 2 WEEKS. TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A CHEVY DEALERSHIP ON 6/27/2011 AND THEY HAVE STATED THAT THEY WOULD NEED TO DROP THE FUEL TANK TO DETERMINE THE EXACT ISSUE WHICH IS ONE OF 3. ONE BEING THE CIRCLE RING ON TOP OF THE TANK, A FUEL MODULE, OR A CRACK IN THE GAS TANK. THEY EXAMINED THE ENTIRE VEHICLE AND THERE IS NOTHING THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED ANY OF THESE ITEMS TO GO WRONG. I HAVE GOOGLED AND SEEN WHERE THERE ARE SEVERAL CONSUMERS THAT HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUES WITH THEIR 2007 EQUINOX'S. I ASKED THE DEALERSHIP IF THERE IS A BIG RISK IN DRIVING THE VEHICLE LIKE IT IS. THEIR ANSWER WAS THAT ANYTIME GAS FUMES ARE PRESENT IT PRESENTS RISKS. EVERY NIGHT WHEN PARKING THE VEHICLE IN THE GARAGE, THE NEXT MORNING THE GAS FUMES ARE TREMONDOUSLY CONCENTRATED (THIS IS WITH ALL THE GARAGE WINDOWS OPEN TO VENT THE GARAGE). AS OF 6/27/2011, THERE HAS BEEN NO REPAIRS DONE ON THE VEHICLE. INSPECTION BY LOCAL DEALER REVEALED GAS TANK SEAM NEAR PUMP/SENDING UNIT ASSEMBLY SEPARATED & LEAKING. VEHICLE IS STILL WITHIN POWER TRAIN AND EMISSIONS WARRANTIES BUT GM IS ONLY WILLING TO COVER COST OF NEW TANK(NOT OFFICIALLY UNDER EITHER WARRANTY, JUST AS A "GOOD WILL" GESTURE) LEAVING $500.00 IN LABOR FOR HER TO PAY. PER NHTSA WEBSITE, THERE HAVE BEEN MULTIPLE INSTANCES OF THIS PROBLEM WHICH COULD ONLY BE DESCRIBED AS A COMPONENT FAILURE / MANUFACTURING DEFECT. GIVEN THE POTENTIAL FOR A FIRE AND/OR EXPLOSION, GM SHOULD VIEW THIS AS A POTENTIAL P/R NIGHTMARE AND DO WHATEVER IS NECESSARY TO RECTIFY THE SITUATION(TO INCLUDE A LOANER VEHICLE). LOCAL DEALER HAS BEEN VERY HELPFUL BUT IT'S GM'S PLACE TO DO THE RIGHT THING RATHER THAN TAKING 'PARTIAL RESPONSIBILITY'. 2007 EQUINOX CHEVROLET - THE IGNITION HAS BEEN LOCKING UP AND KEY COULD NOT BE REMOVED. DEALERSHIP HAS REPLACED IGNITION THREE TIMES AND IT STILL LOCKED UP. TODAY THE WHEEL IS LOCKED, THE GEAR SHIFT IS LOCKED UP AND NOTHING WILL MOVE. THEY ARE SENDING A TOW TRUCK TO HAUL IT INTO THE SHOP AGAIN. MY COMPLAINT IS NOT THE DEALERSHIP IT IS CHEVROLET. ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO I TOOK MY CAR INTO THE LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP AND HAD THE SENSOR CHANGED FOR THE PASSENGER AIR BAG. A FEW WEEKS AFTER THEY CHANGED THE SENSOR THE PROBLEM RETURNED. IT WOULD NOT TURN THE AIR BAG ON EVEN WHEN A FULL GROWN ADULT WAS SITTING IN THE SEAT. IT DIDN'T HAPPEN ALL OF THE TIME SO WHEN I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE SAID THEY COULDN'T REPLICATE THE PROBLEM. AFTER TAKING IT BACK ABOUT 4 TIMES AND THEM NEVER BEING ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM I QUIT TAKING IT IN. LUCKILY THE FIRST TIME IT WAS FIXED MY VEHICLE WAS STILL UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. (THANK GOD I BOUGHT THAT! I'VE SURE USED IT!) NOW THIS YEAR, THE PASSENGER AIR BAG WON'T TURN ON AT ALL EVEN WITH MY 200LB BOYFRIEND SITTING THERE. THE ONLY THING THAT HAPPENS IS THE SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON THE DASHBOARD. I'VE TAKEN IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY'VE DUPLICATED THE PROBLEM AND WANT ME TO PAY $600 TO GET IT FIXED. THE TRACKING CONTROL AND SERVICE STABILITRAK WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON SINCE THE FIRST TIME. IT HAD HAPPENED INTERMITTENTLY FOR 3 YEARS. UNTIL I TOOK IT TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE FAILURE. I HAD TO SPENT A LOT OF MONEY TO FIX THE PROBLEM. RECENTLY, I HAVE HAD ANOTHER ISSUE, THE KEY GETS STUCK. THE KEY WILL NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION WHEN TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, TURN THE KEY OFF, THE ENGINE TURNS OFF, BUT THE KEY WILL NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION. AFTER NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS OF JIGGLING THE KEY AND TRYING TO MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL, I GET THE KEY TO TURN. ALL THIS IS DANGEROUS AND THE SAME TIME FRUSTRATING. I HAVE HAD CONTINUOUS PROBLEMS WITH BRAKE LIGHTS AND TURN SIGNAL LIGHTS GOING OUT.. ONLY AFTER GOING ONLINE AND READING ABOUT THE SCORES OF INDIVIDUAL COMPLAINTS FOR THIS POWER STEERING FAILURE DID I REALIZE THAT A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM EXISTS. I WENT TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS AND WAS TOLD THE PROBLEM WAS THE POWER STEERING CONTROL MODULE. AFTER PAYING THE REPAIR COSTS OF OVER $660 I ASKED IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS TO COVER THIS MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. THE ANSWER WAS "NO". IT IS SERIOUSLY UNBELIEVABLE THAT SUCH AN OBVIOUSLY WIDESPREAD PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED WITHOUT SO MUCH AS AN ACKNOWLEDGMENT FROM GM THAT THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM IN AN EQUINOX. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.

AS A RESULT, THE INTERIOR LIGHT WOULD NOT PROVIDE PROPER ILLUMINATION. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE SUN-ROOF COULD NOT BE REPAIRED AND THE INTERIOR LIGHTING FAILURE COULD HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY A FAULTY ALTERNATOR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,000.
