NOTICED A STRONG SMELL OF GAS COMING FROM THE VEHICLE WHEN PARKED. HAD TO MOVE IT OUT OF GARAGE AS SMELL WAS EXTREMELY STRONG. TOOK CAR IN FOR SERVICE 8/25/12, FOUND THAT THE PLASTIC PART OF THE FUEL PUMP WAS CRACKED AND COST APPROXIMATELY $909 TO REPAIR. FIND OUT THERE IS A RECALL FOR THIS VERY SAME ISSUE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12V459000), AS WELL A CORRESPONDING RECALL FOR SAME ISSUE ON SELECT SUZUKI XL7 (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER:12V597000). I CONTACTED GM CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE BY PHONE (800-243-8872) TO FIND OUT IF MY VEHICLE WAS COVERED, WAS TOLD NO, ONLY BECAUSE IT WAS NOT ORIGINALLY TITLED IN ONE OF THE FOLLOWING STATES "ORIGINALLY SOLD OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN ARIZONA, CALIFORNIA, NEVADA, AND TEXAS". WAS TOLD BY GM CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT ME IF IT WAS DECIDED THAT MY VEHICLE WOULD BE COVERED. I HAVE NOT HEARD ANYTHING FROM THEM, I CAN PROVIDE A CASE # UPON REQUEST. WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE WHERE THE CAR WAS TITLED, DID NOT MY VEHICLE COME DOWN THE SAME ASSEMBLY LINE. SO IN EFFECT BECAUSE MY CAR IS NOT COVERED IT IS OK THAT THE FUEL PUMP CRACKED, AND HAD IT CAUGHT OR CAUSED A FIRE THAT WOULD BE OK AS WELL. WOULD LIKE SOME ASSISTANCE TO GET GM TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THIS IS THE SAME ISSUE, NOT PENALIZE ME BECAUSE I LIVE IN OHIO AND REIMBURSE ME THE COST FOR THE REPAIR $909. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKED THE CONTACT NOTICED A STRONG FUEL SMELL. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THERE WAS A FUEL LEAK FROM THE TOP OF THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,000.
2007 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO FUEL PUMP LEAK RECALL. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED AFTER DISCOVERING THE FUEL PUMP WAS RECALLED, SHE CALLED GMC, BUT WAS INFORMED HER VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE CONSUMER WAS NOT SATISFIED WITH THE RESPONSE, AS THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED ON AUGUST 23, 2012 FOR A SERIOUS FUEL LEAK. EARLIER IN THE YEAR, THE EVAP PURGE VALVE/EMISSION SYSTEM AND FUEL CAP WERE REPLACED. *JB THE CONSUMER HAS SINCE RECEIVED A LETTER FROM GM, WHICH STATED HER VEHICLE IS NOW INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. HOWEVER, THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE. UPDATED 02/13/13
IT HAPPEN AT AN INTERSECTION. I STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. WHEN I WENT TO PULL AWAY THE BRAKES WERE SOLIDLY APPLIED WITHOUT MY FOOT BEING ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. I UT IT IN PARK AND PUMPED THE BRAKES. WHEN I TRIED TO START DRIVING AGAIN EVERYTHING WAS RELEASED. IT HAS HAPPENED A FEW TIMES SINCE AND AFTER READING ONLINE IT SEEMS MANY PEOPLE ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE SMELLED FUEL IN THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY ONE WEEK. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT SHE WAS LEAKING GASOLINE FUEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THAT THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE FUEL PUMP. THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPAIRED. AFTER THE REPAIR, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12V459000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP) BUT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED BECAUSE SHE DID NOT LIVE IN A WARM WEATHER STATE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 72,295 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WAS 72,982. UPDATED 12/5/12 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE RECALL WAS MEANT ONLY FOR WARM WEATHER STATES. THE CONSUMER FEELS THE RECALL SHOULD APPLY TO THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE IN THE SUMMER OF 2012 KENTUCKY AND SURROUNDING STATES HAD RECORD HIGH HEAT AND A DROUGHT. UPDATED 12/10/2012 *JS

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSE THAT THERE WAS A FUEL LEAK IN THE FUEL PUMP. AS A RESULT, THE FUEL TANK UNIT AND SEAL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS A RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 12V459000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP) THAT MAY BE RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL SINCE IT WAS NOT REGISTERED IN ONE OF THE STATES AFFECTED BY THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO STATED THAT THE CONTACT SHOULD TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,000.

THE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL LINE FOR THE 2007 CHEVY EQUINOX IS HAZARDOUS. THE GASOLINE DELIVERY SYSTEM IS FAULTY. MY VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 67,000 AND IS LEAKING GAS NEAR THE TANK. IN RESEARCHING 2007 CHEVY EQUINOX ONLINE COMPLAINTS, I HAVE FOUND THIS TO BE VERY COMMON FOR THIS VEHICLE YEAR AND MAKE;HOWEVER,GM HAS NOT RECALLED THIS. MY VEHICLE SMELLS LIKE GAS FROM FAR DISTANCE.AS I HAD TO DRIVE IT BACK TO MY HOUSE IT GAVE ME A HEADACHE, MADE ME SICK TO MY STOMACH AND DIZZY, WHICH IS A HUGE HAZARD WHILE DRIVING YOUR VEHICLE. THERE IS A PAN UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE WHICH HOLDS ON TO ALL OF THE GAS THAT HAS LEAKED OUT OF THE GAS DELIVERY SYSTEM. IF PARKED ON A TILT THE GAS LEAKS OUT OF THE PAN. I AM PREGNANT AND HAVE TWO LITTLE BOYS THAT WERE IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME WHEN THE GAS SMELL TOOK OVER THE CAR. I CALLED CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEIR IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. WITH SO MANY COMPLAINTS OUT THERE FOR THIS SAME MAKE AND MODEL SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE FOR THE SAFETY OF GM'S CONSUMERS. NOTICED A STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE EMINATING FROM THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE EXTERIOR OF THE CAR LAST WEEK. AFTER NOT USING THE CAR FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS - THE PROBLEM REOCCURED THIS MORNING. I DID A QUICK SEARCH ONLINE AND FOUND ALOT OF COMPLAINTS RELATING TO FUEL LEAKS / FUEL PUMP / FUEL MODULE PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE 2007 EQUINOX. I CALLED MY LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS NO RECALL AT THIS TIME AND ALL REPAIRS ARE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE OWNER. *TR

I HAVE HAD MY EQUINOX SINCE 2008; IT IS A 2007 MODEL. I HAVE HAD CONTINUAL REPAIRS ON THE ELECTRICAL REAR LIGHTS AND THE BELT TENSIONER, BUT THIS NEXT REPAIR IS BY FAR THE WORST. WHEN THE CAR WAS IN PARK POSITION THE ODOR OF GASOLINE WAS STRONG AROUND THE PERIMETER OF THE CAR. WHEN DRIVING, THE SMELL OF GAS CIRCULATED INTO THE AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEM PENETRATING THE INSIDE OF THE CAR. THE SMELL WAS STRONGEST ON THE OUTER SIDE BY THE GAS TANK. I TOOK THE CAR TO GET A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND FOUND A LEAK ABOVE THE GAS TANK. FURTHER INSPECTION REVEALED THE FUEL PUMP WAS LEAKING GASOLINE, ABOUT SIX INCHES FROM THE MUFFLER. THIS DEFECT COULD HAVE RESULTED IN SERIOUS INJURY OR FATALITIES AS I REGULARLY CARRY CHILDREN IN THE BACK SEAT. THIS CAR IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD AND IT SEEMS TO REQUIRE TOO MANY REPAIRS FOR THE FEW YEARS/MILES IT HAS TRAVELED. AS A THOUGHTFUL VEHICLE OWNER, I TAKE PRECAUTIONS TO PRESERVE THE LIFE OF MY VEHICLE THROUGH REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND COVERED STORAGE FROM NATURAL ELEMENTS. STRONG GAS SMELL FROM THE TANK AREA AT APPX 58000 MI. MY MECHANIC COULD NOT LOCATE THE LEAK, SAID I WOULD HAVE TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED ON A RECALL FOR SEVERAL STATES. AM I MISTAKEN, OR DIDN'T ALL THESE 07 EQUINOX'S COME FROM THE SAME ASSEMBLY PLANT ?????? ONLINE RESEARCH SHOWS MANY COMPLAINT'S WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. AT PRESENT MY PROBLEM STILL EXISTS (SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE, SMELLING STRONGER) CANNOT AFFORD THE REPAIR. MY 07 CHEVY EQUINOX IS LEAKING FROM THE GAS TANK ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR. A VERY STRONG ODOR IS COMING INTO THE CAR I CALLED THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS A ON GOING PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR EQUINOX BUT IT HASN'T BEEN RE CALLED . I LOOKED UP THIS PROBLEM AND THERE'S A TON OF CARS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM THIS IS SO DANGEROUS TO HAVE. I HAVE COUNTED OVER 200 OTHER COMPLAINTS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM, ON THE SAME MODEL YEAR ON VARIOUS OTHER AUTOMOTIVE HELP SITES. I FEEL THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS DEFECT PUTTING HUMAN LIFE'S IN JEOPARDY. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND CAN RESULT IN THE VEHICLE CATCHING ON FIRE IF SOMEONE FLICKS A CIGARETTE OR THERE IS A REAR END OR PASSENGER SIDE COLLISION. *TR

SHE LATER NOTICED THAT THE WINDSHIELD WIPERS WOULD NOT MOVE BUT SHE COULD HEAR THE MOTOR OF THE WINDSHIELD WIPER RUNNING. THE CONTACT DISCONNECTED THE FUSE BECAUSE THE MOTOR WOULD NOT SHUT DOWN AND THE WINDSHIELD WIPER WOULD NOT BUDGE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 50,000. UPDATED 11/27/12 *CN UPDATED 12/10/2012 *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A GASOLINE ODOR EMITTED INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE FUEL TANK AND THE FUEL PUMP WERE LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A PRIVATE MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE FUEL TANK MODULE AND FUEL PUMP MODULE WAS CRACKED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO STATED THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE AND WOULD NOT ASSIST THE CONTACT WITH ANY OF THE REPAIR COST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,150 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 49,500.
AFTER RETURNING HOME FROM A 2 HOUR ROAD TRIP I NOTICED A HEAVY GASOLINE ODOR IN MY GARAGE. THE NEXT MORNING WHEN I WENT TO START MY VEHICLE IT HAD TROUBLE STARTING AND THE HEAVY GASOLINE ODOR PERSISTED. I COULD ALSO SMELL GASOLINE INSIDE THE CAB OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A MECHANIC AND HE DETERMINED THAT THE FUEL PUMP/FUEL SENDING UNIT HAD A CRACK ON THE TOP OF THE HOUSING. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS RUNNING IT WOULD SPRAY FUEL OUT OF THE PUMP HOUSING. VERY DANGEROUS BECAUSE THE EXHAUST RUNS VERY CLOSE TO THE FUEL TANK AND FUEL SENDING UNIT. THE ENTIRE FUEL PUMP AND SENDING UNIT HAD TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $880. *TR
NOTICE A STRONG GAS SMELL NEAR FILLER DOOR; NOTICED SLIGHT WETNESS ON GAS TANK UNDERNEATH CAR AND THE SMELL OF GAS IS OVERWHELMING. THE CLOSENESS OF THE GAS TANK AND THE EXHAUST PIPE CAUSE CONCERN FOR A FIRE. *TR
KEY STICKS IN IGNITION WHEN ENTERED INTO PARK, AND WILL NOT COME OUT MOST OF THE TIME. THE ONLY WAY TO RELEASE THE KEY IS TO STICK FINGER INTO A HOLE IN THE STEERING COLUMN AND SLIDE THE MANUAL RELEASE SWITCH WITHIN THE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN. THERE ARE NO OBSTRUCTIONS WHICH PREVENT THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER FROM ENTERING THE FULL PARK POSITION. *TR
FUEL PUMP LEAKING, STRONG SMELL OF GAS, TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP, FUEL PUMP REPLACED. AFTER THE FACT A RECALL WAS MADE FROM GM ABOUT FUEL PUMPS ON MY EXACT VEHICLE. I DIDN'T QUALIFY DUE TO RECALL IS VIN SPECIFIC. THERE MAY BE MORE VEHICLES OUT THERE LIKE MINE THAT FIT WITHIN RECALL GUIDELINES WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE VIN NOT INCLUDED ON THEIR RECALL LIST. GM MAY NEED TO EXPAND THEIR RECALL TO INCLUDE MORE VIN'S. *TR
AIR PRESSURE SENSOR ON REAR DRIVER TIRE INDICATED 28 POUNDS. WHEN THE MECHANIC TURNED THE CAP TO REMOVE IT FROM THE VALVE STEM, THE STEM BROKE OFF (DUE TO CORROSION). DEALER SAYS THE WRONG CAPS WERE ON IT IT - IT SHOULD HAVE BEEN METAL CAPS. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE FROM THIS DEALERSHIP BUT THEY SAY THEY HAVE NO RESPONSIBILITY. AFTER GETTING THE SENSOR AND VALVE STEM REPLACED ($86), I BROUGHT THE TIRE BACK AND PUT IT BACK ON. CHECKED REMAINING VALVE STEMS AND ANOTHER ONE BROKE OFF ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE. ANOTHER $85 AND I WILL EVENTUALLY HAVE TO REPLACE THE OTHER TWO. DEALER IS THE ONLY ONE WHO HAS CHECKED MY AIR PRESSURE (DURING OIL CHANGES AND MULTI-POINT INSPECTIONS) AND NEVER MENTIONED I HAD THE WRONG CAPS ON THE VALVE STEMS. I HAVE CONTACTED GENERAL MOTORS WITH MY SAFETY CONCERN. HAD I BEEN DRIVING WHEN THE VALVE STEM BLEW OUT, I COULD'VE EASILY BEEN INJURED OR KILLED. GM MAINTAINS THERE IS NO RECALL ON THIS ISSUE AND WILL NOT PURSUE THE ISSUE. I NOT ONLY FEEL THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL, BUT I FEEL THEY OWE MY MONEY BACK TO ME. THIS IS THE FIRST GM PRODUCT I'VE HAD (JEEP/CHRYSLER PRODUCTS IN THE PAST). I'M DISAPPOINTED IN THE EXCUSES THE DEALERSHIP GAVE ME (WRONG VALVE CAPS, MOISTURE GOT UNDERNEATH AND CAUSED CORROSION) AND WITH GM'S RESPONSE, SINCE IT DOESN'T HAVE A RECALL ON IT, WE REALLY DON'T CARE IF YOU COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. I HAVE ALREADY BEGUN TELLING EQUINOX AND TORRENT DRIVERS TO CHECK THEIR VALVE STEMS! SHAME ON YOU GM. *TR

STRONG SMELL OF GASOLINE IS NOTICED AFTER VEHICLE IS STARTED AND RAN. CHECKING BENEATH FUEL TANK, IT IS VISIBLE THAT GASOLINE IS LEAKING FROM PUMP/CONNECTIONS AREA ON TOP OF TANK. ALSO HAS THE LEAK IN VICINITY OF EXHAUST CREATING A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD, NOT TO MENTION HEALTH HAZARD FROM BREATHING FUEL VAPORS. THE EXHAUST WILL NEED TO BE REMOVED TO FACILITATE REMOVAL OF FUEL TANK IN ORDER TO CORRECT OR REPLACE LEAKING PUMP. THE VEHICLE IS STILL IN OPERABLE CONDITION AND A PERSON WOULD ASSUME THAT EXTERNAL LEAKAGE WOULD RESULT IN A SAFETY RECALL TO REPAIR MANUFACTURING DEFECT. ON APPROXIMATELY JULY 9, 2012 WE SMELLED GAS FUMES FROM OUR 2007 CHEVROLET EQUINOX. IT HAPPENED ONE OR TWO MORE TIMES AFTER THAT. ON JULY 19 WE NOTICED THE SMELL WAS VERY STRONG AND WE BECAME CONCERNED. I CALLED THE DEALER WHERE WE TAKE THE CAR, MIKE ANDERSON CHEVROLET IN CHICAGO, AND TOLD THEM WE WERE BRINGING THE CAR IN DUE TO A GAS SMELL AND A POSSIBLY DANGEROUS PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. AFTER THEY CHECKED THE CAR, THEY TOLD ME THEY HAD TO DROP THE FUEL TANK TO SEE WHERE THE LEAK WAS. THEY DID THAT AND FOUND THAT THE LEAK WAS IN THE LINES THAT RAN FROM THE FUEL PUMP. THEY ESTIMATED THE COST OF REPAIR AT APPROXIMATELY $1300. I TOLD THEM TO GO AHEAD WITH THE REPAIR. I THEN CONTACTED CHEVROLET TO SEE IF THERE WAS ANYTHING THEY COULD DO SINCE WE HAD SUCH LOW MILEAGE ON THE CAR. AFTER APPROXIMATELY 4 DAYS, CHEVROLET AGREED TO PAY 15% OF THE COST OF REPAIR. *TR

IN MOST CASES, THE FUEL LEAKAGE IS COMING FROM THE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY, AN O-RING OR GASKET CONNECTING TO THE TANK ITSELF IS USUALLY THE CAUSE OF THE LEAKAGE, CAUSING FUEL TO POOL ON THE TOP OF THE TANK. IN MY RESEARCH I DISCOVERED THAT OTHER OWNERS HAD: FUEL TANK LEAKING; FUEL PUMP AND FUEL SENSOR REPLACED; FUEL PRESSURE MODULAR; FAULTY FUEL LINES; CRACKED FUEL TANK; GAS TANK SEAM NEAR PUMP/SENDING UNIT ASSEMBLY SEPARATED & LEAKING; PLASTIC GAS TANK HAD A CRACK; VAPOR CANISTER; CRACKED FUEL PUMP PIPE; FUEL LINE FROM FUEL PUMP TO ENGINE CRACKED; FUEL PUMP MODULE AT CONNECTOR; AND ON AND ON AND ON!!! THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMPONENT FAILURE/MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED. THIS IS A SAFETY AND HEALTH ISSUE - THE POTENTIAL FOR ONE OF THESE VEHICLES EXPLODING (POSSIBLY WITH DEATHS) IS GREAT. INHALING GASOLINE FUMES BRINGS CONCENTRATED HYDROCARBONS INTO YOUR LUNGS AND BLOODSTREAM. SOME OF THE INGREDIENTS IN GASOLINE ARE EXTREMELY TOXIC AND ARE MUTAGENS. LIVER DAMAGE AND PERMANENT BRAIN DAMAGE ARE POSSIBILITIES. MAKE GENERAL MOTORS DO THE RIGHT THING AND ISSUE A RECALL!!!!! *JB
WE STARTED SMELLING GAS IN EARLY MAY 2012. WHEN THE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON, WE TOOK IT INTO A MECHANIC, WHO DETERMINED IT WAS THE FUEL MODULE THAT WAS CRACKED AND LEAKING AND WE PAID A SMALL FORTUNE TO GET IT REPLACED. IN OCTOBER OF THAT YEAR, GM ANNOUNCED A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM, BUT HAS REPEATEDLY SAID OUR VIN IS NOT ON THE LIST. I CANNOT SEE HOW THIS IS POSSIBLE. WHY IS THE RECALL FOR JUST A FEW STATES? WE LIVE IN OKLAHOMA, BUT THE RECALL IS FOR TEXAS. HOW IS THIS POSSIBLE? WHY IS NO-ONE PUSHING FOR A NATIONWIDE RECALL, AND WHY CAN WE NOT GET REIMBURSED FOR THE COSTS OF OUR REPAIRS?
