TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. THE CONTACT STATED THAT FUEL WAS LEAKING UNDER THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AS SOON AS THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS LEAKING AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 116,000. MA 10/19/2015
AFTER ARRIVING AT MY DESTINATION AT 9PM AS I EXITED TRUCK , I SMELLED DEISEL FUEL. TOOK A FLASHLIGHT AND LOOKED UNDER TRUCK AND SAW DIESEL DRIPPING OFF FRAME RAIL ON DRIVERS SIDE OF VEHICLE. I SPENT THE NEXT 5 HOURS AFFECTING A TEMPORARY FIX ON THE METAL FUEL LINE TO STOP THE LEAK OVERNIGHT. AS I RAN MY THUMB ALONG THE FUEL LINE IN AN EFFORT TO ISOLATE THE EXACT SPOT OF THE LEAK, THE LEAK WENT FROM A DRIP, DRIP, ETC TO A PINHOLE STREAM. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO DENT FROM EXTERNAL CONTACT OF ANY KIND. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THIS VEHICLE. IT HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED AND WE DO NOT LIVE IN AN AREA OF MUCH WINTER WEATHER ( SALT CORROSION ). THE NEXT DAY AFTER A 3 MILE WALK TO PURCHASE SOME HOSE REPAIR CLAMPS, I IMPROVISED A STURDY PATCH WHICH ALLOWED ME TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME MORE THAN 2 HOURS AWAY. I HAVE CONTACTED CHEVROLET AND WILL BE TAKING THE TRUCK TO A DEALER MONDAY 7/24. THE REP I SPOKE WITH AT CHEVY SPENT MOST OF THE CONVERSATION TELLING ME THAT BECAUSE OF THE AGE AND MILEAGE OF THE VEHICLE THAT THE REPAIRS WERE MY RESPONSIBILITY. THAT'S FINE BUT I TOTALLY DISAGREE WITH THEM. THIS IS NOT A MAINTENANCE ISSUE. IT IS A DEFECTIVE OR POORLY DESIGNED PART THAT COULD EASILY RESULT IN FIRE, ACCIDENTS AND EVEN BODILY HARM OR THE LOSS OF LIFE. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE FOR A LEAKING METAL FUEL LINE THAT HAS NEVER BEEN DAMAGED IN ANY WAY AT ALL. FROM THE INTERNET FORUMS FOR DURAMAX OWNERS I SEE THAT THIS IS NOT AN UNCOMMON PROBLEM. I ASSURE THERE ARE MANY LESS THAN SAFE IMPROVISED FIXES ON THESE LOUSY FUEL LINES ON THE ROADS AS WE SPEAK BECAUSE GM IS NOT ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS SHAMEFUL AND INCREDIBLY DANGEROUS. I ALSO UNDERSTAND THERE HAVE BEEN ISSUES WITH THE METAL BRAKE LINES AS WELL. I LIKE MY TRUCK A GREAT DEAL, HOWEVER THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED. BEGAN TO SMELL GAS AND COULD VISUAL SEE FUEL LEAKING FROM IN THE AREA OF THE FUEL TANK. MECHANIC CONFIRMED FUEL WERE LEAKING DUE TO CORROSION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CONTACT SMELLED FUEL INSIDE THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DISCOVERED FUEL LEAKING UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE AND A CERTIFIED MECHANIC STATED THAT THE FUEL LINE WAS RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 138,000.
I HAD REPLACED ANTILOCK BRAKE MODULE LAST YEAR AND HAD BRAKES WORKED ON THIS YEAR AND LAST AND REPLACED BRAKE PADS. THE ROTORS HAD BEEN TURNED BEFORE, ON A TRIP TO MY DAUGHTERS MY BRAKES STARTED TO GO OUT. THEY WERE COMPLETELY OUT BY THE TIME I REACHED HER CORNER. I HAD TO HAVE ALL NEW BRAKE LINES AND ROTORS AND PADS EVEN THOUGH THERE WERE ONLY 6,000 MILES ON THE PADS. I ALSO HAD RUSTPROOFED THE TRUCK INCLUDING THE UNDERBODY AND CARRIAGE WHEN I BOUGHT IT NEW IN 2002. IT'S A RUST BUCKET DESPITE THE EXTRA PROTECTION. THE ANTILOCK BRAKE MODULE WAS RUSTED. THE BRAKE LINES WERE COMPLETELY RUSTED THROUGH. AND NOW THE FUEL PUMP IS OUT AND THEY FUEL LINES ARE RUSTED AS WELL. WHAT GETS ME IS I PAID SO MUCH EXTRA FOR EXTRA RUST PROOFING. IT SHOULD NOT HAVE RUSTED THROUGH THIS BAD AT ONLY 125000 MILES. THE ANTILOCK BRAKE MODULE IS PLACED WHERE THE RUST CAN GET AT IT RIGHT UNDER THE CHASSIS PART UNPROTECTED. SO MUCH FOR SAFETY. THAT WENT OUT AT ABOUT 75000 MILES BUT JUST GOT IT REPLACED AT 100000 MILES OR SO. THE BRAKE LINES AND THE FUEL LINES ARE A JOKE ON THIS VEHICLE. I USED TO MAKE AND INSPECT AND TEST THEM AT A FACTORY AND THESE WOULD HAVE NEVER PASSED INSPECTION FOR CORROSION TEST. BUT THEY WEREN'T MADE THERE. THE FACTORY IS CLOSED. NO UNION WAGES EITHER, BUT WE DID GOOD WORK NOT THIS GARBAGE. IT COST OVER $500 FOR MODULE AND IT COST 2500 FOR THE REST OF BRAKE JOB. AND NOW THE FUEL LINES AND PUMP AND FILTER WILL COST OVER $1000. PLUS MY TRUCK BODY IS RUSTING THROUGH ON THE ROCKER PANELS. I BOUGHT A SILVERADO BECAUSE THEY HOLD THEIR VALUE AND ARE DEPENDABLE. NOW MY VEHICLE IS ONLY WORTH ABOUT HALF OF WHAT IT SHOULD BE AND I'M PAYING THOUGH THE NOSE ON TOP OF IT! WE HAVE A 98 CHEVY BLAZER WITH 195000 AND NO RUST ON THE ROCKER PANELS AND THE BRAKE LINES ARE JUST NOW GETTING REPLACED. THERE WAS NO EXTRA RUST PROTECTION ON IT EITHER! WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE JUST COMPLETELY SHUTS OFF, I HAVE REPLACED EVERYTHING & 1 YEAR LATER AND 25,000 MILES LATER & 5 ACCIDENTS THE VEHICLE STILL DOES IT NOW IT WONT EVEN START. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND THERE SHOULD BE A RE-CALL ON THIS I'VE READ THAT THIS IS VERY COMMON IN THIS VEHICLE AND THERE ARE VARIOUS RECALLS ON THE WIRING HARNESS, TRANSMISSION, FUEL LINE, FILTER, HEADLIGHTS, TOWING PACKAGE, BRAKE SYSTEM, BRAKE LIGHTS, BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS. I HAD JUST GOTTEN MY FUEL PUMP REPLACED AT A LOCAL GARAGE, WAS DRIVING IT HOME AND FOUND THE BRAKE PEDAL GOING ALMOST ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOORBOARDS. I PULLED OVER AT THE FIRST SAFE PLACE, FOUND A FLUID JUST GUSHING OUT AROUND GAS TANK AREA ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. IT HAD JUST RAINED FOR THE LAST FEW DAYS, SO I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST WATER. I DROVE A LITTLE FURTHER, THEN DECIDED TO DRIVE IT BACK TO THE GARAGE, ONLY ABOUT A MILE AWAY, AFTER SMELLING BRAKE FLUID AND VERIFYING THE MY RESERVOIR WAS SERIOUSLY LOW. MORE DRIPPING ON THE DRIVERS SIDE, THIS TIME I'M SICK TO CONFIRM IT IS BRAKE FLUID. TOOK IT BACK TO THE GARAGE, HE SAID HE'D LOOK AT IT TOMORROW, BUT I SAID I'D DRIVE IT HOME ALL OF 2 MILES DOWN THE STREET. GOT HOME NO ISSUES, CAUSE I USED THE E-BRAKE, AND FOUND THE RESERVOIR NEARLY DRAINED. NOTHING AROUND THE WHEELS; THIS WAS THE ONLY LEAK. NOW I'M THINKING THE BRAKE LINES MUST HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY RUSTED (AGAIN!) AND GOTTEN DISTURBED WHEN THEY REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP. I HAD THIS HAPPEN SHORTLY AFTER I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE USED, ABOUT FIVE YEARS AGO. I PAID GOOD MONEY BACK THEN TO HAVE THE 'STAINLESS STEEL' BRAKE LINES TO THE ABS HEAD REPLACED BACK THEN. WHY ARE THEY RUSTED THROUGH AGAIN!?!?! HAD NO IDEA THEY RAN UP BY THE TOP OF THE TANK, BUT HEY, WHY NOT? I'M CERTAIN THE LINE HAVE RUSTED OUT AGAIN - WHY?!?!? THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE STAINLESS STEEL; SINCE WHEN DOES STAINLESS EVER RUST? I HAUL A 12,000LB FIFTH WHEEL; THANK GOD I WASN'T HAULING AT THE TIME THIS HAPPENED (AGAIN!) AND KILLED MYSELF AND MY ENTIRE FAMILY IN AN AUTO CRASH. JUST SICK OF IT; TAKE CARE OF YOUR BAD ENGINEERING CHEVY! *TR

I HAD JUST DRIVEN 15 MILES TO ON THE EXPRESSWAY, I STOPPED AT A STORE FOR A COUPLE OF MINUTES. WHEN I WENT BACK TO THE TRUCK, I DIDN'T SEE THE FLUID UNDER IT, BUT GOT IN AND STARTED THE TRUCK. AT THAT TIME I WAS ACCELERATING SLOWLY TO PULL OUT OF A PARKING SPOT. ABOUT THAT TIME A PEDESTRIAN STEPPED OFF THE CURB IN FRONT OF ME. I HIT THE BREAK AND IT WENT TO THE FLOOR! I MISSED THE PEDESTRIAN AND COASTED TO THE END OF THE PARKING LOT WHERE I TRIED TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BREAK, THAT ALSO FAILED! A CONCRETE CURB ALLOWED ME TO STOP THE VEHICLE WITHOUT INCIDENT. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO 2 GARAGES BEFORE I COULD FIND ONE TO REPAIR IT AT A COST OF JUST UNDER $900.00. *TR

FUEL LINES LEAKING. ALL LINES NEED REPLACING. *TR
ON 10/29/2011 THE ENGINE WAS BLOWING GRAYISH WHITE SMOKE. THE ENGINE STARTED LOSING OIL PRESSURE. CHECKED THE OIL, FOUND DIESEL IN THE OIL. THE OIL LEVEL WAS 6" HIGHER ON DIPSTICK. IT IS THE FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM ON THE 2002 DURAMAX DIESEL. THE FUEL INJECTORS HAVE FAILED. I UNDERSTOOD THAT CHEVROLET HAS PUT A RECALL ON ALL 2002 AND EARLY 2003 MODELS. TOOK IT TO DEREK SCOTT AUTO PARK WHICH IS THE CLOSEST CHEVROLET DEALER/SERVICE DEPARTMENT. AFTER RUNNING DIAGNOSTICS THEY TOLD US THAT THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL INJECTORS WOULD BE COVERED 100% BY GM. LATER CALLED BACK AND SAID WE WOULD HAVE TO PAY HALF IN THE AMOUNT OF $2,251.88. THEY WILL NOT ALLOW US TO TALK TO THE GM REP. WE NEED TO KNOW IF THIS IS VALID OR NOT. WE THOUGHT RECALLS WERE PAID FOR BY THE COMPANY I.E. GM IN THIS CASE. THE CONTACT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED A FAILURE WITH THE FUEL INJECTOR PUMP. THE CONTACT PUMPED AIR OUT OF THE FUEL INJECTORS AND RESTARTED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FUEL INJECTOR AND FUEL INJECTOR PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED PRIOR TO HAVING OWNERSHIP OF THE VEHICLE, THE FUEL INJECTORS WERE REPLACED UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 180,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

FAILING FUEL INJECTORS CAUSING SMOKE OUT OF EXHAUST ON A DURAMAX DIESEL TRUCK. GM KNEW OF DEFECT WITH INJECTORS AND ONLY ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR 7 YEARS/200,000 MILES WHICH EVER OCCURRED FIRST. IT WAS ONLY GOOD IF YOU HAD AN ISSUE WITH THE INJECTORS AT THE TIME OF WARRANTY. I JUST FOUND THIS OUT FROM A DEALER AND OTHER OWNERS OF SAME TYPE VEHICLE. IF GM KNOWINGLY KNEW OF THESE ISSUES WHY DID THEY NOT DO A RECALL ON SAID VEHICLES? IT'S REALLY A MATTER OF PRINCIPLE AND MORAL ETHICS TO DO THE RIGHT THING, RATHER THAN HAVE THE CONSUMER TAKE THE FALL FOR THEIR LACK OF PRODUCT DESIGN! *TR
WE HAVE A 2500 HD ALSO WITH FAILED INJECTORS. WE WERE NOT INJURED NOR KILLED. HOWEVER, OIL AND DIESEL BLEW OUT ON ROADWAY AND ON THE ENGINE OF TRUCK. I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WITH THE VEHICLE BEHIND ME OR NOT. HOW MANY ACCIDENTS COULD HAVE HAPPENED AND NO ONE REALIZED IT WAS FROM THE OIL OF OUR TRUCK. FURTHER MORE CHEVY KNOWS THIS IS A PROBLEM. SO HOW MANY PEOPLE HAVE TO GET HURT OR DIE BEFORE THEY TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM. OF EVERYONE I HAVE TALKED TO ONLY ONE PERSON WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND THEY MADE IT BY 14 DAYS. CHEVY HAS A PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO FIX IT, AND NOT WITH AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. THIS IS MY FIRST CHEVY AND WILL BE MY LAST. MAYBE THAT IS WHY CHEVY NEEDED BAIL OUT MONEY
MY COMPLAINT IS MORE OF A QUESTION. HOW CAN A RECALL HAVE A CUTOFF DEADLINE, ESPECIALLY WHEN THE ITEM RECALLED MAY OR MAY NOT BE BAD? THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY INJECTORS AND I NEVER NEW IT TILL THEY WENT BAD AND I TOOK IT TO DEALER TO FIX AND THEY SAID INJECTORS HAD BEEN RECALLED BUT RECALL EXPIRED. THEN, 13 MONTHS AFTER HAVING THEM REPLACED, 3 GO BAD AND YA'LL ONLY OFFER A 1 YEAR WARRANTY WHEN YOU REPLACE THEM, HOW CONVENIENT. YOU HAVE AN EXPIRATION ON A RECALL.
