I was driving today and my truck started making a strange noise(like something was loose). I stop the truck to see what was loose, I found nothing. I got back in the truck driving about 20 mph the truck started making the noise again and the truck started dragging( like it wouldn't go faster). I then stop and pulled in a church parking lot where the truck was not drivable. I was told by a concern passerby( mechanic, which happen to be) it's has something to do with the rest axle. The truck gave me no warning whatever. I was told I could have had a major accident and I had NO!!! warning. Please, fix. I have nothing but, issues with this truck.

WHERE CLUTCH MASTER CYLINDER MOUNTS IN CLUTCH PEDAL ASSY BROKE. WAS UNABLE TO GET OUT OF GEAR CAUSING ME TO HIT A POLE. DAMAGING BUMPER HOOD FENDER HEADLIGHT TURN SIGNAL AND GRILL. CALLED THE DEALER THEY TOLD ME THAT CLUTCH BRAKING ISSUES WHILE DRIVING IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE DONE SOME CHECKING AND THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE WITH THIS ISSUE BUT BECAUSE GM SAYS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE THEY JUST WANT TO SELL US PARTS TO FIX THIS PROBLEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED TO RESPOND PROPERLY IN THE OVERDRIVE POSITION. IN ADDITION, THE TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS WHERE A REPAIR WAS PERFORMED EACH TIME. THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN OF THE SPECIFIC PARTS THAT WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE RECURRED AND AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WAS DIAGNOSING THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE UNAVAILABLE.
ON FEB 21ST 2013 MY TRANSMISSION BROKE AND IT LOST 2ND, 4TH, AND REVERSE, BUT WAS STILL DRIVABLE. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL INDEPENDENT TRANSMISSION SHOP AND THEY SAID IT WAS A WELL-KNOWN PROBLEM. AFTER DOING EXTENSIVE RESEARCH I FOUND THAT GM HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS WEAK SUN GEAR SHELL SINCE AT LEAST 1998. THE PROBLEM IS THAT GM DIDN'T REMOVE THE FAULTY PARTS FROM THEIR INVENTORY, ALTHOUGH THEY UPDATED THE PART SOMETIME IN2000 GM MIXED THE NEW PARTS IN WITH THE OLD SO THAT THEIR STATISTICS WOULD SHOW THAT NOT ALL 4L60E TRANSMISSIONS FAILED. TRANSMISSION REBUILDERS SAY YOU CAN ONLY TELL THE FAULTY SHELL FROM THE UPDATED VERSION BY THE SERIAL NUMBER INSIDE THE FAULTY SUN GEAR SHELL. MANY ENGINEERING ACCOMPLISHMENTS IN TRANSMISSIONS HAVE BEEN MADE IN THE PAST TWO DECADES WITH MATERIALS AND LUBRICANTS. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO REASON FOR SUCH A MASSIVE GM TRANSMISSION FAILURE. WHAT MAKES IT SO BAD AFTER THE TEN DOLLAR PART FAILS GM CHARGES $3,000 FOR A REBUILT TRANSMISSION. IF THE FAULTY SUN GEAR SHELL WAS REPLACED BEFORE TOTAL FAILURE THE PRICE IS LESS THAN $1,000. I WATCHED AS MY TRANSMISSION WAS BEING REBUILT AND THERE WAS NO VISIBLE WEAR ON ANY OTHER PARTS. IT LOOKED LIKE BRAND NEW EXCEPT THIS FAULTY SUN GEAR SHELL. IF THIS PROBLEM IS SO WIDELY KNOWN FOR SO MANY YEARS THROUGHOUT THE INDUSTRY WHY WASNT THERE A FORCED RECALL? IF THERE WAS JUST ONE RELATED DEATH THE GOVERNMENT WOULD HAVE BEEN ALL OVER THIS, WHAT A SHAME. I FOR ONE WOULD LIKE SOME OF MY MONEY BACK, NOW KNOWING THAT GM FRAUDULENTLY COVERED UP THIS MASSIVE PROBLEM.
THE HOLDING CLIP FOR THE OIL PUMP INSIDE OF TRANSFER CASE BROKE WHICH ALLOWED THE OIL PUMP TO SHAKE INSIDE OF CASE AND CONSEQUENTLY RUBBED A HOLE THRU T CASE WHICH EFFECTIVELY EMPTIED ALL THE LUBRICATING OIL FROM T CASE RUINING MOST OF THE PARTS INSIDE. *TR
THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE TRANSFER CASE THAT RESULTS IN A CLIP BREAKING LOOSE AND RUBBING A HOLE IN THE REAR HOUSING, ALLOWING THE LUBRICANT TO LEAK OUT, WHICH CAN CAUSE THE TRANSFER CASE TO FAIL AND POSSIBLY LOCKING UP THE WHEELS IN AN UNEXPECTED MANNER, CAUSING A CRASH.
THIS IS A FOLLOW UP TO MY PREVIOUS COMPLAINT. FIRST THERE IS A CORRECTION WITH THE DATE OF INCIDENT. THE CORRECT DATE SHOULD READ 06/01/2011 NOT 2010. AFTER TALKING FURTHER WITH GM CUSTOMER SERVICE AND NEVER GETTING A REASSURANCE THAT THEY ARE CONSIDERING HELPING COVER THE COST OF REPAIR, I HAVE SINCE TAKEN THE TRUCK TO A LOCAL INDEPENDENT TRANSMISSION REPAIR SPECIALIST THAT REPAIRS VEHICLES FOR THE MUNICIPALITY I WORK FOR. THEY GAVE THE SAME DIAGNOSIS WITH THE SAME MALFUNCTION CODE. THEY ALSO INFORMED ME OF A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN THAT HAS BEEN ISSUED ON THIS CODE BY GM, WHICH THE DEALER AND THE GM CUSTOMER SERVICE REP. NEGLECTED TO DIVULGE. I HAVE READ THE BULLETIN AND IT CLEARLY STATES THAT TRANSMISSIONS SHOWING THIS CODE AND FALLING WITHIN A SPECIFIED BUILD DATE WHICH IS STATED ON THE BULLETIN ARE TO BE REPLACED AND THAT NO FURTHER DIAGNOSIS BE PERFORMED. THAT BEING SAID, GM STATED THAT BY TAKING THE TRUCK TO A NON GM CERTIFIED TRANSMISSION REPAIR SPECIALIST THEY ARE NO LONGER WILLING TO HELP ME. I DID HAVE THE REPAIR SHOP TEAR THE TRANSMISSION DOWN TO DETERMINE THE EXACT CAUSE OF THE FAILURE AND THEY STATED THAT IT WAS THE PLASTIC PISTONS IN THE ACCUMULATOR HOUSING THAT FAILED CAUSING THE TRANSMISSION TO OVER HEAT WHICH IN TURN DAMAGED OTHER COMPONENTS WITHIN THE TRANSMISSION. I TALKED TO GM THIS MORNING TRYING ONCE AGAIN TO GET SOME RESOLVE AND WAS TOLD BY THE SAME PERSON THAT I HAVE BEEN DEALING WITH FROM THE GET GO THAT THEY WERE GOING TO HELP ME BUT NOW CAN'T. THIS IS THE SAME PERSON THAT SAID "GM COULD NOT GUARANTEE ANY HELP", IN EVERY CONVERSATION WE HAD TIL TODAY. IN CONCLUSION, THE DEALER WAS THE FIRST TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM AND RECOMMEND A SOLUTION OF REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION WITHOUT ANY FURTHER BREAKDOWN OF THE TRANSMISSION (THEY ALREADY KNEW OF A PROB. GM CUSTOMER SERVICE KNEW THIS AND WAS UNWILLING TO COMMIT TO HELPING ME. *TR
CHEVY EXTENDED CAB, 1500 SILVERADO: WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, TRUCK LOST COMPLETE POWER, I.E. ENGINE QUIT, PWR STEERING LOSS, NO RADIO, GAUGES LOSS PWR. COMPLETE LOSS OF POWER IN TRAFFIC. TRUCK RESTARTED, SPUTTERED, POWER LOSS, ENGINE BACK ON LINE (INTERMITTENTLY FOR APPROXIMATELY 1/4 MILE). VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION FOR SEVERAL DAYS. GARAGE FOUND NOT DISCREPANCIES WITH VEHICLE. FIVE DAYS ELAPSED. VEHICLE LOSS (DIED) ON HIGHWAY AGAIN. SAME DESCRIBED SYMPTOMS. IS THERE A RECALL OR OTHER SIMILAR ISSUES OUT THERE? *TR
INTERNAL COMPONENTS WEAR A SMALL HOLE IN THE REAR OF THE CASE HOUSING ALLOWING THE FLUID TO LEAK OUT WITHOUT YOU KNOWING IT. ONCE THE FLUID IS GONE THE GEARS GRIND DOWN TO THE POINT WHERE THE TRANSMISSION LOCKS UP AND YOU SKID TO A STOP. I'VE BEEN TOLD THIS IS STILL AN ON GOING PROBLEM ALL THE WAY UP TO THE 2010 MODEL YEAR. *KB
WHILE DRIVING, THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SHIFTS ABRUPTLY CAUSING THE TRUCK TO JUMP FORWARD. THE TRANSMISSION WILL CONTINUE TO SHIFT HARD THROUGH ALL GEARS UNTIL TRUCK HAS BEEN STOPPED AND SHUT OFF FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. THIS IS AN INTERMITTENT OCCURRENCE. IT HAS HAPPENED APPROX. 5 TIMES FROM 24000 MILES TIL NOW AT 31000 MILES OVER A PERIOD OF 6 MONTHS. DEALER CHECKED TRANSMISSION AND STATES THAT FLUID IS BURNT, SLIPS IN SECOND GEAR AND RECOMMENDS A NEW TRANSMISSION INSTEAD OF REPAIR. THERE ARE SEVERAL FACTORS THAT NEED TO BE TAKEN INTO CONSIDERATION. THE FIRST BEING THE AGE OF THE VEHICLE WHICH IS 9Y/O. SECOND IS THE MILEAGE WHICH IN JANUARY OF THIS YEAR WAS 17000 MILES. THIRD FACTOR WOULD BE THE CONDITION OF THIS VEHICLE, DRIVEN BY AN ELDERLY MAN, ALWAYS GARAGED, KEPT IN TEXAS AND NEVER TOWED ANYTHING. THIS VEHICLES CONDITION FOR IT'S AGE IS "LIKE NEW" WITH ALL MAINTENANCE BEING DONE BY THE DEALER FROM WHICH IT WAS PURCHASED. THE LOCAL DEALER WHICH DIAGNOSED THE PROBLEM WILL VOUCH FOR THE CONDITION OF THE TRUCK. THIS WAS REPORTED TO GM CUSTOMER SERVICE ON FRI. NOV. 11, 2011. I AM WAITING FOR A SATISFACTORY OUTCOME TO THIS BAD TRANSMISSION. GM HAS YET TO COMMIT TO HELPING COVER THE COST OF ANY REPAIRS. THEY WANT ME TO PAY THE $1100 TO TEAR THE TRANSMISSION DOWN TO FIND THE PROBLEM BEFORE THEY WILL DECIDE ANYTHING. I BELIEVE THIS IS NOT MY RESPONSIBILITY SINCE THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY "RECOMMEND THE TRANSMISSION BE REPLACED". *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 CHEVROLET SILVERADO. WHILE APPROACHING A STOP, THE CONTACT HEARD GRINDING METAL, WHICH SOUNDED AS IF THE GEAR WAS SLIPPING. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL ABLE TO BE DRIVEN, BUT MADE A CONTINUOUS WHINING SOUND COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP AND THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION WILL NEED TO BE REBUILT. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 72,945.

I PURCHASED MY 2002 CHEVROLET IMPALA LS IN DECEMBER, 2004. GREAT LOOKING VEHICLE WITH NUMEROUS PROBLEMS. THE MOST RECENT AND SEVERE HAS COME OVER THE LAST FEW DAYS.
