The contact stated that she recently noticed that other gauges were also malfunctioning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and was diagnosed with a failed instrument cluster. The contact was informed that the instrument cluster need to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 19,626.

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND "LOW ENGINE POWER" FLASHED WHERE THE ODOMETER IS. THIS CAUSED THE RPM'S NOT TO GO OVER 2800. CODE READER CLAIMS O2 SENSORS OR THROTTLE CONTROL MODULE OR CATALYTIC CONVERTOR ISSUES. WE DISCOVERED IT WAS NONE OF THE ABOVE. TO FIX PROBLEM CHANGE 3 RELAYS LOCATED UNDER HOOD IN FUSE BOX. RELAY #8864. THEN CLEAR CODES, SHOULD FIX ISSUE UNLESS CODE PERSISTS. RELAYS WILL CAUSE A FIRE IF NOT CHANGED OUT ASAP.
MANY OF THE VEHICLES IN THIS FAMILY SUFFER FROM RANDOM ELECTRICAL SHORTS AND OR POOR ELECTRICAL GROUNDING RELATING TO THE DRIVE BY WIRE THROTTLE ACTUATOR. THE RESULT IS THAT THE VEHICLE WILL GO INTO 'REDUCED ENGINE POWER' MODE RANDOMLY. IN THIS MODE THE VEHICLE WILL IDLE BUT NOT ACCELERATE OR DRIVE. THIS ISSUE IS WELL DOCUMENTED ON MESSAGE BOARDS WITH NO CONSISTENT FIX. THIS CONDITION EXPOSES AN EXTREME HAZARD AS THE VEHICLE CAN LOOSE POWER AT ANY TIME. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED. I HAVE HAD MY VEHICLE LOOSE POWER ON THE INTERSTATE AND ON HIGH SPEED 2 LANE ROADS WITH NO SHOULDER AND HEAVY TRAFFIC ON 4 OCCASIONS. NUMEROUS ATTEMPTS TO REPAIR THE ISSUE HAVE BEEN UNSUCCESSFUL.
THE SPEEDOMETER DOESN'T WORK PROPERLY. I CAN BE AT A RED LIGHT AT COMPLETE STOP & IT STATES I AM DOING 60, WHEN I ACCELERATE IT GOES TO 100, WHEN I KNOW I AM ONLY DOING 10-15 MPH. I AM 70 YEARS OLD ON A FIXED INCOME. I NEVER RECEIVED ANYTHING ABOUT A RECALL AND I NOW HAVE AROUND 102,000 MILES ON MY TRUCK. I CAN NOT AFFORD TO REPLACE A DEFECTIVE PART FOR $500- $600. I HAVE A 2004 CHEVY SILVERADO CREW CAB AND MY SERVICE SHOP HAS DETERMINED THE CLUSTER PANEL IS FAULTY IT PRESENTS MISREADINGS WHICH IS CAUSING ERROR CODES READINGS IN THE COMPUTER. THEY TESTED THE OIL PRESSURE AND THE TACH AND SAID THE COMPONENTS WERE WORKING CORRECTLY WITH IN RANGE IN SPITE OF THE FACT THE GAUGE DIALS ON THE PANEL WERE SHOWING THINGS WERE NOT WORKING CORRECTLY OR WITH IN RANGE. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION THE TACHOMETER GAUGE DIAL PERIODICALLY EITHER DOES NOT REGISTER IT WILL STAY AT ZERO, OTHER TIMES IT WILL EXCEED ABOVE THE HIGHEST # ON THE PANEL. THE OIL GAUGE DIAL STAYS CONSISTENTLY IN THE SAME POSITION WHICH EXCEEDS ABOVE THE HIGHEST # READING LEVEL ON THE PANEL. PERIODICALLY THE ENGINE LIGHT WILL COME ON AND STAYS ON FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS AND THEN IT WILL GO OFF FOR ABOUT 3-6 MONTHS. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, HOW ARE DRIVERS TO KNOW IF SOMETHING IS TRULY WRONG WITH THE TRUCK WHEN THE CLUSTER PANEL IS NOT PRESENTING THE CORRECT READING. WE DEPEND ON THE CLUSTER PANEL TO ALERT US WHEN SOMETHING IS GOING AWRY. I HAVE JUST RECENTLY RAN INTO THIS ISSUE WITH MY TRUCK AND IT ONLY HAS APPROX 50,000 ORIGINAL MILES ON IT. I HAVE JUST RECENTLY STARTED WORKING WITH THE CHEVY COMPANY BUT I HAVE NOT BEEN VERY SUCCESSFUL SO FAR IN GETTING ANY FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE WITH THIS AND I AM TOLD IT WILL BE APPROX $800.00 TO R & R IT. INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PANEL GAUGES QUIT WORKING. TRUCK HAS LITTLE LESS THAN 14,000 MILES ON IT. THROUGH INTERNET SEARCH DISCOVERED THAT A SPECIAL SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED BUT DID NOT RECEIVE ONE. NOTICED THAT IT ONLY COVERS 7 YEARS OR 70,000 MILES FOR GM TO REPLACE. I AM WELL UNDER THE 70,000 MILES AND FEEL THAT IT SHOULD BE REPLACED BY GM. SPEEDOMETER WAS THE FIRST GAUGE TO QUIT WORKING. ALL SERVICE ON VEHICLE HAS BEEN PERFORMED BY GM DEALERSHIP TO DATE. DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY I HAVE TO REPAIR THIS AT MY OWN COST.

IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT THE STEPPER MOTORS IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER ARE GUARANTEED TO FAIL RESULTING IN NOT KNOWING WHAT SPEED YOU ARE GOING OR ANY OTHER GAUGE SUCH AS FUEL, TEMPERATURE OR OIL PRESSURE. GM REFUSED TO FIX PROBLEM WHEN STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I FIXED THE FIRST 2 STEPPER MOTOR FAILURES MYSELF, NOW AT 268,XXX MILES THERE IS A PROBLEM IN THE IGNITION SWITCH WHICH LEAVES ME WITH NO FUNCTION OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND LOSS OF HVAC BLOWER FUNCTION. IT IS NOW WINTER HERE IN MICHIGAN, VEHICLE PROBLEMS STARTED WHEN IT WAS WINTER WHEN THE SPEEDOMETER AND FUEL GAUGE FAILED THE FIRST TIME. NOW, THE HEATER FAN AND INSTRUMENT CLUSTER HAVE FAILED AT THE SAME TIME! THE LAW REQUIRES A SPEEDOMETER! THIS SHOULD BE MADE A MANDATORY REPLACEMENT OF ALL INSTRUMENT CLUSTERS REGARDLESS OF MILES OR AGE OF THE VEHICLE. 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO LS 1500 THAT HAS THE FAILED INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND HEATER BLOWER PROBLEMS. I EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN LOSS OF ENGINE POWER WHILE TRAVELLING AT HIGHWAY SPEED. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2004 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 2500 FOUR WHEEL DRIVE WITH THE DURAMAX DIESEL AND ALLISON TRANSMISSION. ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2015, SHORTLY AFTER A FUEL STOP, I WAS TRAVELING ON INTERSTATE 24 NEAR PADUCAH, KY. AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH IN THE LEFT LANE WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET, I EXPERIENCED A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER ACCOMPANIED BY A LOUD ENGINE RATTLING, AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. WITH SOME DIFFICULTY IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, I WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER TO THE RIGHT SHOULDER OF THE ROAD. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AT ABOUT 25 MPH ON THE SHOULDER. SINCE I WAS JUST A FEW MILES FROM THE PADUCAH EXIT, I LIMPED THERE AND INTO A HAMPTON INN PARKING LOT. AAA RESPONDED AND TOWED THE TRUCK TO ROYAL OAKS CHEVROLET IN PADUCAH. SINCE IT WAS A SUNDAY, THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS CLOSED. THE NEXT MORNING, THE DEALERSHIP'S SERVICE DEPARTMENT PULLED UP CODES PO202 AND P2149. THE SERVICE MANAGER REPORTED THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS ISSUE AND THAT IT WOULD BE SEVERAL DAYS BEFORE THE REPAIR PARTS WOULD BE AVAILABLE. I LATER LEARNED THAT THE SERVICE BULLETIN IS #05-06-04-047C. THE BULLETIN ADDRESSES "A SEVERE REDUCTION IN ENGINE POWER (LIMP HOME MODE)" I WAS CHARGED $1,076 FOR REPAIRS FOR A KNOWN DEFECT THAT CHEVROLET KNEW ABOUT.
I WAS DRIVING MY TRUCK TO A FRIENDS HOUSE AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY CAGES STARTED GOING CRAZY THEY SHOWED THAT MY TRUCK WAS OVERHEATING AND WHEN I STOPPED ITS WASN'T OVERHEATING THE THE AIR CONDITIONING STARTED TO GET HOT AND THEN COLD AND STOPPED. KNOW NONE OF THE CAGES WORK. TWO WEEKS AGAIN MY WIFE AND I WENT TO BREAKFAST AND WHEN I WENT TO TURN THE IGNITION OFF IT WOULDN'T TURN OFF SO I HAD TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE RUNNING AFTER BREAKFAST WE WENT HOME AND I DISCONNECTED THE CABLES AND THE TRUCK TURNED OFF . THEN THE NEXT MORNING I HOOKED THEM BACK UP AND IT STARTED BY IT SELF. I AM A 77 YEAR OLD SENIOR AND I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THIS IS HAPPENING . I WOULD LIKE HELP IN TRYING TO FIGURE THIS ALL OUT IT SOUNDS LIKE DEFECTS TO ME I HAVE ALWAYS OWNED SILVERADO TRUCKS AND NEVER HAS ANYTHING LIKE THIS HAPPENED.
WHEN I GOT INTO THE VEHICLE TO START, THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER SAYS "UNKNOWN DRIVER". AS A RESULT OF THIS CONDITION, I CANNOT ADJUST MIRRORS, ROLL UP WINDOWS, OR GET HEADLIGHTS TO WORK. ALSO, THE GAUGES FOR VOLTAGE, OIL PRESSURE, TEMPERATURE, AND FUEL DO NOT WORK. THE RADIO DOES NOT WORK AS WELL. BECAUSE OF OVER ENGINEERING AND FAULTY PARTS I CANNOT USE THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE ALREADY HAD THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER REPLACED AS PART OF A RECALL. MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AS SEARCHED, WITH NO ANSWER. GENERAL MOTORS HAS FAILED TO PUT IN PLACE SAFETY SYSTEMS OR OVERRIDE FUNCTIONS TO ALLOW SAFE OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE. GM IS USING COMPUTER CONTROLS WHICH OFTEN FAIL TO CONTROL IMPORTANT SAFETY FUNCTIONS OF THE VEHICLE. I CURRENTLY HAVE THE VEHICLE AT THE DEALER AND THEY HAVE DISMANTLED THE BULK OF THE TRUCK TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM. AFTER TWO DAYS IN THE SHOP, THEY STILL HAVE NOT FOUND THE PROBLEM. FAULTY ENGINEERING AND POOR PARTS HAVE LEAD TO THIS CONDITION. I HAVE BEEN A LIFELONG GM OWNER, BUT I WILL RECONSIDER THIS MOVING FOWARD. I AM SURE MY NEXT VEHICLES WILL BE OTHER BRANDS.
A MONTH OR TWO AGO THE HEATING SYSTEM STAYED BLOWING WHILE IN OFF POSITION AND EVEN WHILE THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF, KEPT KILLING THE BATTERY SO IT HAD TO BE DISCONNECTED. PERIODICALLY THE SERVICE STABILITY LIGHT WILL BLINK ON. TODAY THE WIPERS WILL NOT TURN OFF. VERY WORRIED THAT IT WILL ACCELERATE, CATCH FIRE OR SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING.
