THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PERFORMING REGULAR MAINTENANCE THAT HE OBSERVED CORROSION AND A HOLE ON THE CROSS MEMBERS AND CHASSIS WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL, NOR COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY COULD ARRANGE TO HAVE THE VEHICLE ON A ROLLBACK TO BE TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEN THEY PATCHED THE CONTACT OVER TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER ( WALTER GM AUTOMALL 505 N MAYO TRAIL, PIKEVILLE, KY, 41501) CONFIRMED THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY THAT THEY COULD HAVE THE VEHICLE ROLLED BACK, HOWEVER THERE WOULD BE A DIAGNOSTIC FEE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,231.
WHILE LOOKING OVER MY TRUCK PRIOR TO INSPECTION I DISCOVERED THREE CROSS MEMBERS TOTALLY RUSTED THRU. THE ARE ALSO THE MAIN SUPPORTS FOR THE GAS TANK AND THE SHOCKS. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND REPLACEMENT PARTS AND THE MORE I LOOK THE MORE I HEAR HOW COMMON THE RUSTED CROSS MEMBERS ARE. I WENT TO THE LOCAL DEALERS PARTS DEPT. AND WHEN I ASKED FOR CROSS MEMBERS HE TOLD ME WHICH ONES I NEEDED AND POINTED THEM OUT ON AN ILLUSTRATED BRAKE DOWN. AFTER THE TRUCK BED WAS REMOVED I NOTICED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE CABLE IS RUBBING AGAINST THE PLASTIC GAS TANK AND IS JUST ABOUT WORE THRU THE TANK TO ABOUT THE THICKNESS OF A PLASTIC SANDWICH BAG. THE CABLE HAS ALSO RUBBED AGAINST IT'S SUPPORT BRACKET ALMOST ALL THE WAY THRU AS WELL AS INTO THE CABLE. *TR
I HAVE FOUND THAT THE STEEL LINES RUNNING ALONG THE FRAME RAILS ARE RUSTING AND FOUND A PATCH IN ONE PLACE AND THE POSSIBILITY OF MORE LEAKS HAPPENING. *TR

ROTTEN BRAKE LINES. I LOOKED AT THE BRAKE LINES WHILE CHANGING MY OIL. MY TRUCK HAS 47K ON IT. I CALLED GM. THEY TOLD ME THAT I HAD TO BRING IT TO A DEALER. I DID. THEY CONFIRMED THAT THE BRAKE LINES ARE BAD AND NEED TO BE REPLACED. $1500 ALSO THE TRANSMISSION COOLING LINES ARE LEAKING. I HAVE BEEN THROUGH ALMOST ALL OF THE BRAKE PROBLEMS LISTED ON THIS WEB CITE. ABS LIGHT COMES ON, TWICE, 2ND TIME I REPLACED THE LEFT HUB BEARING ASSEMBLY. THE 1ST TIME THE DEALER REPLACED THE FRONT ABS SENSORS. AIR BAG LIGHT COMES ON, I REPLACED A BAD FRONT AIR BAG SENSOR, RIGHT SIDE. THIS TRUCK IS TURNING INTO A MONEY PIT!!!!! THIS NEW (ROTTEN LINES) ISSUE IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS WAS THE ABS ISSUE. GM NEEDS TO DO A FULL RECALL AND REPLACE THE BRAKE LINES BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. *TR
THE LEFT REAR SHOCK ABSORBER MOUNT TORE COMPLETELY THROUGH AND SEPARATED FROM THE MAIN AXLE HOUSING. BECAUSE THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINE WAS MOUNTED TO THE SHOCK MOUNT, WHEN THE MOUNT FAILED, THE SHOCK ABSORBER EXTENDED FULLY AND RUPTURED THE BRAKE LINE TO THE LEFT REAR WHEEL. THIS RESULTED IN A TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKES WHILE ATTEMPTING TO EXIT INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 40 AT 65 MPH. AT NO TIME DID THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER ON THE DASH INDICATE A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. AFTER USING ELECTRIC TRAILER BRAKES TO SLOW AND STOP THE VEHICLE COMBINATION, THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE MOVED TO A PARKING AREA. UPON SHUTTING OFF THE IGNITION, A NOTICE CAME ON THE DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER STATING, "SERVICE BRAKES SOON". UPON EXAMINATION, THE MASTER BRAKE RESERVOIR WAS DOWN TO APPROXIMATELY 50%. THE LEFT REAR SHOCK ABSORBER, THE BRAKE LINE AND THE SHOCK MOUNTING BRACKET WERE ALL HANGING APPROXIMATELY 4" ABOVE THE PAVEMENT. THE TRAILER BEING HAULED WAS LESS THAN 1/2 OF THE RATED TOW WEIGHT AND THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN OPERATED ON THE INTERSTATE HIGHWAY SYSTEM FOR ALMOST 5 WEEKS WITH NO OFFROAD OR HEAVY HAULING. WHEN TEMPORARY REPAIRS WERE MADE AT A WINGFOOT TRUCK CENTER, THE MECHANIC WHO WELDED THE SHOCKMOUNT BACK TO THE AXLE HOUSING INDICATED THAT HE HAD SEEN TWO FAILURES AT THE SAME POINT IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS. HE THOUGHT THAT ONE WAS A 2007 GMC 2500 HD AND MY 2500 HD CHEVROLET DIESEL. ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE MANAGER AT LENLYALL CHEVROLET IN AURORA, CO THERE WAS NO FAILURE OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM PROPORTIONING VALVE BECAUSE NONE WAS PRESENT IN THE HYDRO BRAKE SYSTEM INSTALLED ON THE VEHICLE. ALL OTHER SHOCK MOUNTS WERE EXAMINED AND FOUND TO BE OK. . AT THIS TIME GM IS REFUSING TO TAKE ANY FURTHER ACTION DUE TO THE FACT THAT REPAIRS WERE ALREADY TEMPORARILY MADE. *TR

AT 36,000 MILES I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR A TICKING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT END WHEN I TURNED. THE SAID THEY REPLACED A BROKEN PIN IN THE STEERING BOX. EIGHT MONTHS LATER I BEGAN TO HEAR A OCCASIONAL GROWLING NOISE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE LEFT ON CURVES AT SPEEDS ABOVE 45 MPH. I ALSO BEGAN HEARING THE TICKING NOISE AGAIN WHEN MAKING TURNS AT LOW SPEEDS. IT COST ME 600.00 TO HAVE THE DRIVERS SIDE BEARING REPLACED. I ALSO HAD TO REPLACE THE FRONT TIRES FOR UNEVEN WEAR. I HAVE TALKED TO 3 OTHER INDIVIDUALS THAT OWN THIS TRUCK ( 04 -06) AND THEY HAVE ALL HAD TO REPLACE THE WHEEL BEARING. GM HAS TO BE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM BECAUSE WHEEL BEARINGS DO NOT WEAR OUT THIS QUICKLY.
DRIVERS SIDE REAR AXLE AND TIRE CAME OFF THE VEHICLE, CAUSING 2006 SILVERADO TO WRECK. AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. WE WERE ON THE ENTRANCE RAMP TO I-95 WHEN SUDDENLY TRUCK TURNED TOWARD CONCRETE GUARD RAIL. AFTER HITTING RAIL HEAD ON AND SKIDDING ACROSS ENTRANCE RAMP HITTING RAIL ( SEVERAL TIMES) VEHICLE CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP. TIRE AND AXEL WERE (LEFT REAR-DRIVER SIDE) GONE. TRUCK IS TOTALED. AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR

BOUGHT MY 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO GM CERTIFIED WITH ONLY 40,300 AND OUR FAMILY TOOK A VACATION SOUTH AND DID A GREAT JOB BUT COMING BACK WAS A DIFFERENT STORY HIGHWAY WAS GREAT BUT WHEN I GOT INTO TOWN I WAS HEARING A GRINDING NOISE AND WE TURNED LEFT AND THAT IS WHEN WE HEARD A CRACK AND AFTER THAT I WAS THINKING I HAD A FLAT TIRE SO I PULLED OVER AND SAW IS WAS NOT THE CASE SO I LEFT I WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS IT SOUNDED LIKE SOME WAS DRAGGING AND I MADE IT HOME CHECKED ALL LEVELS ON THE FLUIDS AND WHERE NORMAL,THEN I CALLED CHEVY ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE AND WAS TOLD THAT MUST TOW THE TRUCK TO MY LOCAL CHEVY DEALERSHIP.I FOLLOWED UP WITH THEM AND WAS TOLD THAT THE RIGHT SIDE WHEEL BEARING FAILED AND LUCKILY IT WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY OR IT WOULD OF COST ME $366.94 AND I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WERE NOT GREASABLE AND I HAVE A OLDER 80S CHEVY AND ITS NEVER HAPPENED AND I DROVE IT FOR ALMOST 50,000 AND I STILL HAVE IT TODAY. A ROARING SOUND BEGAN IN THE FRONT LEFT HUB BEARING ASSEMBLY ON MY 2006 CHEVROLET SILVERADO Z-71 ON 25 OCTOBER, 2009. ON THE FOLLOWING DAY, THE NOISE BECAME A HORRIBLE GRINDING SOUND, AND THE FRONT LEFT WHEEL BEGAN WOBBLING BADLY. I HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO ATWOOD CHEVROLET IN VICKSBURG, MS WHERE I LIVE. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE LEFT FRONT HUB BEARING ASSEMBLY WAS SHOT, AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. APPROXIMATELY 18 MONTHS BEFORE, THE RIGHT FRONT HUB-BEARING ASSEMBLY HAD TO BE REPLACED ON THIS SAME VEHICLE. THE CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP (ATWOOD CHEVROLET) REPLACED THE PART ON 27 OCTOBER, 2009. I WAS INFORMED BY THE SERVICE MANAGER THAT THIS WAS OCCURRING AT A CONSTANT RATE ON THIS VEHICLE. WHEN I TALKED TO THE GM REPRESENTATIVE ON 28 OCTOBER, I WAS TOLD THAT 'BECAUSE OF THE ENVIRONMENT IN WHICH I LIVE HERE IN MISSISSIPPI", THIS IS EXPECTED. *TR
