TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD MALFUNCTION SPORADICALLY WITHOUT ANY WARNINGS. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THIS FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,340. UPDATED 09/12/2012 *JS
I WAS WONDERING HOW COME THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL FOR THE CHEVY TRAILBLAZER EXT FOR THE THROTTLE BODY. I SEE THAT THEY HAVE RECALLS ON OTHER CHEVY CARS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE AS WHEN THIS GOES YOU HAVE A REDUCE ENGINE LIGHT THAT COMES ON. WHICH I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT THAT MEANT UNTIL MY CAR WASN'T GOING ANY MORE THAN 20 MPH. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS TO BE ON THE ROAD LIKE I WAS AND CAN'T SPEED UP OR BETTER YET TRYING TO TURN WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE THE POWER TO DO SO. ALSO, I SEE THAT THERE WERE ALSO ALOT OF ISSUES WITH THE SPEEDOMETER. WHICH ALSO I HAD THAT PROBLEM HAS TO PAY TOO MUCH MONEY TO GET THIS FIXED. AS HOW THEY WOULD SAY THEIR ARE MANUFACTURE PARTS WHICH DEFINITELY HURTS YOUR POCKETS. IF THEY KNOW THAT THEY HAVE THESE ISSUES THEY REALLY NEED TO RECTIFY BECAUSE BOTH OF THESE ISSUES CAUSE SOME SERIOUS PROBLEMS ON THE ROAD. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. WHILE PARKED WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE KNOCKING NOISE WAS NORMAL FOR THE TYPE OF ENGINE IN THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE PISTONS IN THE ENGINE WERE DOWN SIZED, CAUSING THE NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,000.
THREE TIMES SINCE PURCHASING THIS VEHICLE IN JANUARY 2012, I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY DUE TO BEARING FAILURE. RECENTLY THE TRANSMISSION, WHICH HAS NOT EXHIBITED A LEAK, WAS VERY LOW ON FLUID, (3 QUARTS) AND THE FLUID WAS BURNED. THE TRANSMISSION NOW SLIPS AND IS CHANGING ERRATICALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS REGULARLY SERVICED AT BUFF WHELAN CHEVROLET IN STERLING HEIGHTS, MI. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT SUDDENDLY FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO DRIVE. THE HEADLIGHT BULB WAS REPLACED BY THE CONTACT AND ONE MONTH LATER; THE FAILURE RECURRED WITH THE PASSENGER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT. THE DEFECT OCCURRED SPORADICALLY AND THE HEADLIGHT BULB WAS REPLACED EACH TIME. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 116,000.
FUEL GAUGE STAYS ON EMPTY AND OIL TEMPERATURE GAUGE STAYS AT 260 DEGREES. THE SPEEDOMETER STICKS AND RESETS INCORRECTLY AT RANDOM INTERVALS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH COULD BE TURNED WITHOUT THE KEY BEING IN THE IGNITION, CAUSING THE BATTERY TO DRAIN. THE KEY WAS REMOVED AND THE IGNITION SWITCH REMAINED IN THE ACCESSORY MODE WHICH CAUSED THAT BATTERY FAILURE. THE CONTACT HAD TO CONSTANTLY TO CHECK TO ENSURE THAT THE IGNITION WAS IN THE OFF POSITION AFTER REMOVING THE KEY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. LEFT REAR BLINKER DOES NOT TURN WORK. BULB HAS BEEN REPLACED. THE WHEN I TURN ON THE BLINKER IT MAKES A RAPID BLINKING NOISE. *TR
ONE DAY WHEN I WAS DRIVING I STOPPED MY VEHICLE AND THE SPEEDOMETER READ 60 MPH AT A STANDSTILL. AS I CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE IT INCREASED UNTIL IT REACHED WELL PAST 120 MPH. EACH TIME THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED THE SPEEDOMETER SOMETIMES GOES BACK BUT NEVER TO 0. THE RPM DOES NOT FUNCTION AT ALL, AND NOT SURE WHEN THAT STOPPED WORKING. THE SPEEDOMETER DID FIX ITSELF AND THEN STARTED AGAIN A MONTH LATER. THE SECOND TIME IS WHEN THE PROBLEM STARTED WITH THE RPM NOT FUNCTIONING. I HAVE SEEN MULTIPLE INCIDENTS WITH PEOPLE COMPLAINING OF THESE SAME ISSUES AND HAVE SAVED THE ISSUES. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND THEY ARE STATING THAT THIS IS NOT A MANUFACTURERS DEFECT AND STATED IT IS $300 TO REPLACE A "INTERNAL FAULT IN THE DASH CLUSTER." THIS IS WHAT I WAS TOLD BY SOMEONE IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT A CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP. *TR

CAR FELT "STUCK" IN GEAR, WOULDN'T ACCELERATE, LOW ON TRANSMISSION FLUID. ADDED MORE FLUID, REPLACED SPEED SENSOR, CAMSHAFT & CRANKSHAFT SENSORS. STILL HAVING ISSUES WITH RPMS GOING HIGH, CAR SLAMMING FROM ONE GEAR INTO ANOTHER. ALSO CANNOT RUN HEAT WHILE DRIVING, FAN DRAWS POWER & CAUSES ENGINE TO STALL OUT. CAR ALSO BURNING THROUGH GAS VERY QUICKLY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ENTIRE CLUSTER GAUGE WAS INOPERABLE. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO SEE THE CURRENT VEHICLE SPEED DUE TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE CLUSTER GAUGE NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
SPEEDOMETER AND TACH WORKS ERRATICALLY. SPEEDOMETER WORKS APPROX. 25% OF THE TIME. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WITH MY FAMILY THE SPEEDOMETER AND TACH STOPPED WORKING. WE HAVE BEEN CALLING GM TO FIND A SOLUTION WITH NO RESULTS. I HAVE COME TO REALIZE THAT I AM ONE OF MANY WITH THIS SAME ISSUE WITH THEIR 2004 TRAILBLAZER. WE CANNOT UNDERSTAND HOW GM CAN SAY THAT THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE WHEN THIS PUTS OUR CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN DANGER WHEN EVER THEY ARE IN A VEHICLE THAT IS NOT PRODUCING ACCURATE FEEDBACK CONCERNING OUR SPEED AND PERFORMANCE OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
MANY TIMES WHILE DRIVING THIS SUV, THE ENGINE HAS JUST SHUT OFF. IT WILL START RIGHT BACK UP. HOWEVER IT IS SCARY AND WE HAVE TRIED TO FIGURE THIS OUT FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW. THE WORST TIME WAS WHEN I WAS GETTING ON A BUSY INTERSTATE AND THE CAR CUT OFF. I DON'T KNOW IF THE VEHICLE WAS DOING THIS PRIOR TO OUR PURCHASE. MY VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY PARKED IN MY FAMILY'S GARAGE, AS I AM EXPERIENCING A STRONG GAS SMELL. THERE IS NO VISIBLE LEAK, BUT I DO NOT DARE TO TRANSPORT MY CHILDREN IN THE VEHICLE UNTIL I CAN FIND WHAT THE GAS SMELL IS ORIGINATING FROM. *TR
IN DECEMBER 2011 MY RPM GAUGE STOP WORKING. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE 2004 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER. THEN, ON DECEMBER 7,2012 MY SPEEDOMETER STOP WORKING AND NOW ALL THE OTHER GAUGES ARE STARTING TO MALFUNCTION. THERE ARE RECALLS ON THIS SAME PROBLEMS FOR 2005 AND 2006 TRAILBLAZERS. GM DIDN'T ISSUE A RECALL ON THE 2004 CHEVY TRAILBLAZERS. I FILED A COMPLIANT WITH THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE AGAINST GENERAL MOTORS. A REPRESENTATIVE FROM GENERAL MOTORS CALLED AND SAID THERE WAS NOT ANYTHING THAT THEY COULD DO, BECAUSE THE VEHICLE HAS MET ITS LIFE EXPECTANCIES. THEY WILL NOT DOING ANYTHING BECAUSE MY VEHICLE IS OVER 100,000 MILES. HE BASICALLY TOLD ME THAT ONCE THE VEHICLE REACHES 100,000 MILES THAT GENERAL MOTORS DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT. *TR
FUEL GAUGE HAS BEEN FLUCTUATING WILDLY FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS, GENERALLY READING EMPTY (EVEN AFTER FILL UP) BUT OCCASIONALLY FULL (WHEN A FILL UP IS NEEDED). DEALER SAID FUEL GAUGE SENSOR WAS BAD & THAT IT WOULD BE APPROX $900 TO FIX. LOOKING INTO THE PROBLEM ONLINE I SEE THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 75 MPH WHEN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL GAUGES FAILED TO PROVIDE ACCURATE READINGS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 179,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 179,500.
IN COLD WEATHER, THE STEERING FLUID BECOMES FILLED WITH AIR. THEN IT FOAMS AND BOILS OUT OF THE PUMP.THE CAR IS IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER. IT HAS DONE IT TWICE. *TR
INSTRUMENT PANEL STOPPED WORKING. FIRST THE TACHOMETER - THEN THE SPEEDOMETER. *TR
BEGINNING WITH THE TACHOMETER IN 2011, THE REMAINING GAUGES ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CLUSTER HAVE PROCEEDED TO STOP WORKING OVER THE NEXT TWO PLUS YEARS TO THE POINT THAT NONE OF THEM WORK ANYMORE (INCLUDING THE SPEEDOMETER). WE HAVE NO IDEA HOW FAST WE ARE DRIVING NOR DO WE KNOW THE STATUS OF OUR FUEL LEVEL. *TR
I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD WHEN I RAN OUT OF GAS. IT STILL SHOWED OVER 100 MILES LEFT ON THE GAUGE. THAT WAS ABOUT 3 MONTHS AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE. ABOUT TWO MONTHS LATER, I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. I STARTED KEEPING THE GAS ON 3/4 OF A TANK AT ALL TIMES TO MAKE SURE THERE WAS FUEL IN IT. THE PROBLEM KEPT HAPPENING. TODAY, IT WAS ON 200+ MILES AND I RAN OUT. THIS IS RIDICULOUS! DO I REALLY HAVE TO KEEP TRACK OF HOW MANY MILES I PUT ON IT SO I KNOW WHEN I NEED TO REFILL? *TR
FIRST, ALL MY LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WOULD FLASH AT RANDOM TIMES (LIKE THE SEATBELT, ABS, CHECK ENGINE SOON, ETC.). THEN MY TACHOMETER (RPM GAUGE) STOPPED WORKING. NEXT MY GAS GAUGE STOPPED WORKING. NEXT CAME THE SPEEDOMETER. IT WOULD GET STUCK AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS AS A STARTING POINT AND I WOULD HAVE TO SUBTRACT THAT STARTING POINT SPEED FROM MY SPEEDOMETER SPEED TO FIND THE ACTUAL SPEED. FOR INSTANCE, IF THE SPEEDOMETER WAS STUCK ON 25 MPH WHEN I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, THEN ONCE I PICKED UP SPEED TO 100 MPH, I KNEW I WAS TRAVELING AT 75 MPH. FOR THE LAST 5 MONTHS THOUGH THE SPEEDOMETER HASN'T WORKED AT ALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER EXT. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, BOTH THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED WITHOUT IMPACT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE BOTH AIR BAGS WERE BEING REPLACED. THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE MALFUNCTION. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 154,654.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER EQUIPPED WITH YOKOHAMA ADVID TOURING S TIRES, TIRE SIZE 245/70/16. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT BOTH FRONT TIRES AND THE REAR DRIVER'S TIRE SIDEWALL WERE SEVERELY CRACKED. THE THREE DEFECTIVE TIRES WERE NOT REPLACED. THERE WAS A RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 12T025000 (TIRES:SIDEWALL); HOWEVER THE TIRE WERE INELIGIBLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000. THE DOT NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE.
THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING TODAY. I CHECKED ONLINE TO SEE IF ANYONE ELSE WAS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. APPARENTLY THERE IS A LOT OF US ALL EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM. I DON'T THINK IT IS FAIR THAT WE ALL HAVE TO PAY $500 TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM. IF WE ARE ALL HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM THERE IS OBVIOUSLY SOMETHING WRONG. *TR
MY 2004 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER INSTRUMENT GAUGES STARTED GOING HAYWIRE. EVERYTHING THAT I HAVE READ SAYS THE WHOLE PANEL NEEDS REPLACED. THE OIL, BATTERY, TEMP AND GAS CLUSTERS STOPPED WORKING THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD START WORKING AGAIN. THEN THE SPEEDOMETER AND TACH STOPPED AND STARTED AND NOW NOTHING IS COMING ON. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW MUCH FUEL THAT I HAVE AND ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS ARE ALL LIT UP. WAITING FOR THE WHOLE THING TO BLOW. I CURRENTLY HAVE IT AT A GM DEALER AND THEY SAID THAT IT WILL COST ME 500 BUCKS TO REPLACE THE PANEL. I TOLD THEM TO GO AHEAD BECAUSE I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING LIKE THAT. I HAVE TO HAVE THIS VEHICLE TO WORK AND I WANT GM TO PAY FOR THIS TO BE FIXED. MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN FOR ME! *TR
VEHICLE WAS BEING DRIVEN WHEN ALL DASH GAUGES FAILED. PARTICULARLY CONCERNING WAS THE FAILURE OF THE SPEEDOMETER. GM HAS ADMITTED THAT OTHER VEHICLES HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE PAID FOR AND INSTALLED REPLACEMENT DASH CLUSTERS ON SOME MODELS. THE 2004 TRAILBLAZER IS NOT COVERED AS THERE HAS NOT BEEN ENOUGH OCCURRENCES OF INSTRUMENT CLUSTER FAILURE REPORTED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START AND THE ONLY LIGHTS THAT WOULD FUNCTION WERE THE FOG LIGHTS AND HIGH BEAMS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO HAVE THE FAILURE DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 91,000.
THE STEPPER MOTORS IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER HAVE FAILED. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON PROBLEM AND PEOPLE ARE NOW MAKING A LIVING OFF OF CHARGING FOR THE REPAIRS BECAUSE GM IS REFUSING TO ISSUE A RECALL. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER AND TACHOMETER GIVE IMPROPER READINGS. THEY FAILED WHILST I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH. *TR
LOVE THE VEHICLE EXCEPT THE FACT ALL MY GAUGES STICK.... GM HAD TOLD ME THIS HAS TO BE SAFETY ISSUE IN ORDER TO BE RECALLED... I'M PRETTY SURE NOT KNOWING HOW FAST I AM GOING ON THE HIGHWAY IS A SAFETY ISSUE... ESPECIALLY WITH LITTLE CHILDREN IN THE CAR. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE. THE SPEEDOMETER ON MY 2004 TRAILBLAZER OPERATES VERY ERRATICALLY. AT TIMES IT DOES NOT WORK AT ALL AT TIMES IT REGISTERS WAY SLOW OR WAY FAST. THIS TO ME IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. IF DRIVING ON SNOWY ROADS YOU CAN NOT TELL HOW FAST YOUR WHEELS ARE SPINNING AND THIS COULD CAUSE LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. OR ANOTHER SCENARIO, TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE AND THE MILES PER HOUR IS REGISTERING BETWEEN 5 AND 10 MPH LESS THAT YOU ARE ACTUALLY TRAVELING. THIS COULD POSE A REAR END COLLISION PROBLEM AS THOSE TRAVELING BEHIND YOU MAY NOT NOTICE THAT YOUR SPEED IS SLOWER. A PROPERLY FUNCTIONING SPEEDOMETER IS A VITAL PART OF BEING ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE IN A SAFE MANNER, NOT ONLY FOR YOUR SAFETY BUT FOR THOSE AROUND YOU. IN SEARCHING THE INTERNET THIS SEEMS TO BE MORE OF A "COMMON" PROBLEM THAN WHAT ONE MIGHT REALIZE. GENERAL MOTORS SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THIS PROBLEM, AS A PROPERLY FUNCTIONING SPEEDOMETER IS AN IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE. THE SAME AS BRAKES FAILURE, THROTTLE STICKING, FIRE HAZARD OR ANY OTHER MYRIAD OF ITEMS ON A VEHICLE ARE RELATED TO THE PROPER AND SAFE OPERATION BEYOND THE OPERATORS CONTROL. PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS. 2004 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER FUEL GAUGE NOT WORKING IT GOES AROUND IN CIRCLES DOES NOT MEASURE FUEL AND HAS CAUSED VEHICLE TO RUN OUT OF GAS, THE GAUGE STARTED MEASURING INCORRECTLY, THEN MOVING FROM FULL TO EMPTY GOING IN CIRCLES NOW ITS STUCK ARROW POINTING DOWNWARD, MY FAMILY AND I WERE LUCKY THAT THE VEHICLE BEHIND US WAS NOT SPEEDING OR ELSE HE WOULD HAVE SLAMMED INTO THE BACK OF OUR SUV AND CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *KB

SWITCHES FOR THE POWER WINDOW AND HEATED DRIVER'S SEAT ON DRIVER'S DOOR PANEL STOPPED WORKING. HEATER FOR DRIVER'S SEAT TURNS ON, ON ITS OWN AND CANNOT BE CONTROLLED WITH THE SWITCH. WHILE THE HEATER FOR DRIVER'S SEAT IS ON, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FLICKERS. THE HEATER FOR DRIVER'S SEAT TURNS ON AND OFF, ON ITS OWN AND EACH TIME IT COMES ON, THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FLICKERS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET TRAIL BLAZER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING FAN CONTROL WOULD NOT WORK UNTIL IT REACHED LEVEL FOUR OF THE FIVE SETTINGS. IN ADDITION, THE SPEEDOMETER WAS INOPERABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT REGISTER PROPER SPEED. READS AT 0 MPH WHEN GOING 65MPH OR ANY OTHER MPH FOR THAT MATTER. AT NO TIME IS THE SPEEDOMETER EVER ACCURATE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER LS. THE CONTACT NOTICED AFTER REFUELING THE VEHICLE TO CAPACITY, THE FUEL WOULD LEAK ONTO THE GROUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE TOP PORTION OF THE FUEL TANK WAS FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN PERTAINING TO THE DEFECT UNDER NHTSA ITEM NUMBER 10026522 (FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000.
WHILE GETTING A TUNEUP, THIRD PARTY MECHANIC ADVISED ME THAT THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE NECK OF THE GAS TANK, WHERE THE FILLER TUBE MEETS THE TANK ITSELF. I WAS ADVISED THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2003 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER FOR THE SAME DEFECT. I WAS ALSO ADVISED THERE WAS A NHTSA INVESTIGATION. I WAS TOLD MY VIN# DID NOT FALL WITHIN THE RECALL. THE THIRD PARTY MECHANIC ADVISED $800 TO REPLACE THE TANK. I CALLED GM CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS TOLD TO TAKE IT TO A GM DEALER AND HAVE A GM CERTIFIED MECHANIC VERIFIY THE THIRD PARTY MECHANIC'S FINDINGS. I DID SO AND WAS CHARGED BY THE GM DEALER TO VERIFY THERE WAS A CRACK. WHEN GM CUSTOMER SERVICE CALLED BACK AND VERIFIED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM, THEY ASSIGNED ME TO A GM CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE REPRESENTATIVE WHO WOULD INVESTIGATE IF THEY COULD ASSIST ME WITH THE REPAIRS. APPROXIMATELY 10 DAYS LATER I WAS ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO ASSIST ME BECAUSE THE PROBLEM I WAS EXPERIENCING WAS DUE TO AGE AND MILEAGE OF THE VEHICLE. THERE ARE NUMEROUS REPORTS OF OWNERS OF 2004 CHEVY TRAILBLAZER OWNERS ON THE INTERNET THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM WITH FRACTURED, CRACKED AND BROKEN CONNECTIONS ON THE GAS TANK WHERE THE FILLER TUBE MEETS THE TANK. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY A RECALL FOR THIS HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED. MY VEHICLE IS 7 YEARS OLD AND HAS LESS THAN 90,000 MILES ON IT. WE DON'T LIVE IN A STATE THAT IS CONSIDERED TO BE A "CORROSIVE HAZARD STATE". IF THE SAME PROBLEM IS HAPPENING TO THE SAME PART ON THE SAME VEHICLE, WHAT IS KEEPING A RECALL FROM BEING ISSUED? *KB
DRIVING DOWN HIGHWAY HEADLIGHTS GO OUT BUT FOGLIGHTS AND HIGH BEAMS WORK. HEADLIGHTS COME BACK ON AFTER AWHILE. *TR
ABS KICKS IN AT LOW STOPPING SPEED BETWEEN 5 TO 10 MPH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 CHEVROLET TRAILBLAZER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER REFUELING, FUEL WOULD SPILL OUT FROM THE FILLER NECK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED HER THAT THERE WAS A HOLE IN THE FUEL TANK AND THE FILLER WAS FRACTURED. THE ENTIRE FUEL TANK WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE FUEL TANK WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 110,000.
THE SPEEDOMETER IN MY 2004 TRAILBLAZER REGULARLY BECOMES STUCK WHILE I'M DRIVING. *TR
I AM IN THE QUICK LUBE BUSINESS AND CHANGE OIL ON APPROXIMATELY 150 VEHICLES A DAY. PART OF OUR SERVICE INCLUDES CHECKING THE TIRE PRESSURE. ON ABOUT 10% OF THE VEHICLES THAT HAVE THE "TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM" WE FIND CORROSION AND FAILING VALVE STEMS. ON MANY INSTANCES THE VALVE STEM HAS BROKEN OFF AND BECAUSE WE WERE CHECKING THE TIRES WE HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR THAT CAN RUN INTO HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS. THESE VALVE STEM HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED USING INCOMPATIBLE MATERIALS THAT CAUSE CORROSION. IT IS NOT FAIR TO US THAT WE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY $250 TO REPAIR A TPMS VALVE STEM DUE TO INADEQUATE MANUFACTURING. WE HAVE CHOSEN TO "NOT" CHECK THE TIRE PRESSURE ON THE VEHICLES THAT UPON VISUAL INSPECTION HAVE CORRODED VALVE STEMS. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS CONDITION FOR THE CONSUMER IN THAT IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT THE TIRE PRESSURE IS REGULARLY CHECKED. IN MY OPINION A RECALL SHOULD BE MADE ON ALL VEHICLES WITH THESE INFERIOR VALVE STEMS. MOST AMERICAN MANUFACTURED VEHICLES ARE TO BLAME. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD THAT IS ONLY GETTING WORSE AS TIME GOES BY. *TR
THE SPEEDOMETER IS NOT REGISTERING THE CORRECT SPEED, JUMPS AROUND WHILE DRIVING AND HAS AFFECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL. I FOUND THAT THIS ISSUE IS THE SAME AS NHTSA ITEM # 10023585 FOR MOST SIMILAR GM VEHICLES, BUT FOR SOME REASON, THIS FAMILY OF GM TRUCKS WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE REPORTED ISSUE. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED, THE SPEEDOMETER NEEDLE DROPS WELL BELOW 0 AND THEN JUMPS AROUND WHEN THE VEHICLE STARTS MOVING. BASED ON CHECKS WITH OUR GPS, THE SPEEDOMETER IS OFF BY AS MUCH AS 20 MPH. *TR
INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILURE, RAN OUT OF GAS ON A BUSY FOUR LANE HIGHWAY DURING MORNING RUSH HOUR. I WAS IN THE LEFT HAND LANE AND WAS UNABLE TO MOVE TO THE SHOULDER. I NOW BECAME A MAJOR TRAFFIC PROBLEM UNTIL SOME NICE CITIZEN HELPED ME PUSH THE TRUCK OUT OF HARMS WAY, HAVING TO STOP BOTH LANES OF TRAFFIC SO I COULD CROSS. HAD I A WORKING GAS GAUGE I FEEL THIS WOULD NOT HAVE HAPPENED, NONE OF THE INSTRUMENTS IN THE VEHICLE WORK, CHEVY HAS RECALLED OTHER MODELS OF THIS YEAR WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS,BUT NOT THE TRAILBLAZER. I HIT A DEER AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH AND THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. MY SON THAT WAS RIDING IN THE PASSENGER SEAT ALSO WAS WEARING HIS SEAT BELT BUT THE SEAT BELT DID NOT CATCH AND HE WAS SLAMMED INTO THE DASH. I REFUSE TO BELIEVE THAT THIS IS NORMAL BEHAVIOR FOR THOSE SAFETY DEVICES. *KB
THIS VEHICLE HAD BEEN PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY FROM 7:45 PM, (AUGUST 10, 2011). I WAS AWAKENED AT APPROX. 3:55 AM ON 8-10-2011 BY HEARING A MUFFLED BOOM. AT 4:00 AM (AUG. 11, 2011) I HEARD A LOUD BANG TYPE NOISE. I IMMEDIATELY GOT UP AND WENT TO INVESTIGATE. I WENT OUTSIDE AND FOUND MY 2004 TRAILBLAZER (EXT) ON FIRE FROM THE ENGINE BAY AND JUST BEGINNING TO FLAME INSIDE THE VEHICLE'S PASSENGER COMPARTMENT AT THE DASHBOARD..IT ONLY TOOK MINUTES BEFORE THE VEHICLE WAS FULLY INVOLVED. THE FIRE BEGAN IN THE ENGINE BAY. THE FIRE MARSHALL REPORT IS STILL PENDING AND I WAS INFORMED IT WOULD TAKE 6 TO 8 WEEKS BEFORE IT WAS AVAILABLE. APPROX. TWO TO THREE MONTHS PRIOR, I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR GARAGE TO FIX THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS (THEY HAD FAILED AND CHANGING THE BULBS WAS NO HELP. IT TURNED OUT THAT IT WAS A FAILED RELAY, WHICH WAS REPLACED. IT WAS A COUPLE OF WEEKS LATER THAT I HAD TO REPLACE THE VEHICLE'S BATTERY AS IT HAD GONE DEAD AND WOULD NOT TAKE A CHARGE. THE OLD BATTERY WAS ABOUT THREE YEARS OLD. THERE WERE NO OTHER BATTERY/HEADLIGHT ISSUES AFTER THESE REPAIRS. NO TOOLS OR OTHER PARTS WERE DROPPED INTO THE ENGINE BAY, OR LEFT IN THE BAY. I WAS AN AIRCRAFT MECHANIC AND OLD HABITS OF KEEPING RACK OF MY TOOLS NEVER DIE AND ALL TOOLS USED WERE ACCOUNTED FOR. THE ROADS WERE DRY WHERE IT WAS DRIVEN THERE WAS NO RAIN AT THE HOUSE ALL NIGHT. I REPORTED THIS TO CHEVROLET THAT DAY. AS A RESULT OF THE FIRE, THE EAVES OF THE HOUSE OVER THE GARAGE CAUGHT FIRE, MY WIFE, SON AND MYSELF HAD MINOR CARBON MONOXIDE POISONING, MY WORK TRUCK WAS DAMAGED BY THE HEAT OF THE FIRE, SO I CANNOT WORK (SELF EMPLOYED) UNTIL I GET A REPLACEMENT (NO RENTAL COMPANY WILL LET ME USE A TRUCK TO WORK FROM AS I NEED TO CARRY LARGE QUANTITIES OF CHLORINE IN MY PRESSURE CLEANING BUSINESS. THERE HAVE BEEN NO OTHER PROBLEMS OF THIS KIND BEFORE WITH THIS VEHICLE. *TR
