I was stopped at a red light, when the airbag in the headrest deployed on the driver side.

The contact stated that her daughter was struck in the back of the head by the head restraint. The contact stated that her daughter had not observed the warning light before or after the failure. The contact's daughter had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V640000 (Seats, Air Bags); however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Avenger. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed and coming to a stop, the driver’s side headrest deployed and pushed her head forward. The contact stated that the impact was like being rear-ended. The contact had a major headache from the impact of the headrest deployment. The contact inspected the headrest and became aware that the headrest spring had fractured. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 142,000.
Driving and car cuts off without warning. Could be going 35 mph could be going 65 mph. Have to shift to N to cut car back on. Sometimes it won't cut back on. I pressed gas after light turned green in a busy intersection and car cut off in middle of intersection. This has happened in more than one occasion and almost caused many accidents. Throws code for crankshaft position sensor. It has been replaced and still not helping. Also replaced throttle body position sensor. This is happening with A LOT of these vehicles. All online forums talk of the same problem. Don't know if it's the computer itself because the check engine light rarely comes in when this happens. Then it throws random codes.

Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 16V668000 (Seat Belts, Air Bags) however, the dealer informed the contact that the recall repair was completed by the previous owner in November 2022. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 96,056.
The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Avenger. The contact stated that while her husband was reversing the vehicle out of a parking space, the driver’s side air bag was independently deployed without incident. The contact stated that a grayish-colored smoke was coming from underneath the steering wheel after the deployment. The contact initially called her insurance provider who referred her to a local dealer; the dealer then referred her to the manufacturer and a claim was filed. The vehicle was taken to Bakersfield Chrysler Jeep (3101 Cattle Dr, Bakersfield, CA 93313) where an inspector was sent from the manufacturer to investigate the failure. The contact then received an email from the manufacturer that stated that her claim was denied and that the failure was a result of normal wear and tear. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 117,000.
The active head restrains (AHR) deployed without vehicle being involved in collision. This could have caused injury and even death if anyone was operating the vehicle while it deployed. No warning lamps are active, but the system is clearly deployed.
Passenger headrest airbag deployed without collision when vehicle was parked while occupants were not in vehicle. Increased in safety hazard as airbag deployed prematurely.
While driving at about 30 mph the engine suddenly quit and would not immediately restart. The electrical system was shut down and electric door latches would not function. This vehicle recently had a new battery installed after it periodically failed to start. After having the car towed to the dealership and sitting for several days, it restarted. Dealership mechanics could not find a problem.
It just shut off , all the lights comes on & it just shut off , not to mention i just got the engine fixed & it’s still doing the San thing.

The contact was able to latch the seat belt buckle however, the seat belt buckle was unlatched again after several hours. Car blows cold air on passenger side and hot air on drivers side. Also, the defrost does not work on passenger side.
Passenger headrest deployed without cause or accident and hit passenger in head. Resulting in headache and pain.
JUST BOUGHT THE CAR, WITHIN A MONTH THE BRAKES WERE GRINDING. TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THERE WAS A POWER TRAIN LEAK WHICH THEY REPLACED. A FEW DAYS LATER, I WAS AT AN INTERSECTION TURNING AND MY WHEEL COMPLETELY LOCKED, CAUSING ME TO HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. AN OFFICER HAPPENED TO BE ON THE SAME ROAD AND SAW THAT MY CAR WAS ALSO SMOKING AS WELL WHICH MAY HAVE BEEN DUE TO THE PREVIOUS POWER TRAIN LEAK. I LOOKED AT OTHER RECALLS AND SURE ENOUGH, THERE ARE SOME ON THE 2011-2013 REGARDING STEERING AND BRAKE SYSTEMS AS WELL. THEY DEFINITELY NEED TO CHECK THE 2014 DODGE AVENGER AS WELL FOR SIMILAR ISSUES. NOW THE FRONT PASSENGER AREA AND MY AXEL IS RUINED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED.
I WAS LEAVING WORK ON FRIDAY, MARCH 19,2021 AROUND 4:05 P.M...STOPPED, MY CAR WAS NOT IN MOTION, I WAS WAITING FOR ON COMING TRAFFIC TO CLEAR, WHEN I HEARD WHAT I BELIEVED TO BE GUN SHOTS OR EITHER A CAR HAD CRASHED INTO THE BACK OF ME AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED, THERE WERE NO VEHICLES BEHIND ME, I WAS SO SCARED, I WENT TO MY MECHANIC, AND HE DISCOVERED THE HORRIBLE NOISE WAS MY HEAD REST HAD EXPLODED. IT IS CUT IN HALF AND HAS STARTED RATTLING. MY MECHANIC ADVISED I CALL DODGE DEALER ON MONDAY MORNING 3/22/2021. I CALLED THIS MORNING AT 9:11 A.M. (EASTERN TIME). I DID RECEIVE A CALL BACK, I EXPLAINED IN GREAT DETAIL WHAT HAPPENED, I IN NO CERTAIN TERMS TOLD THE DEALER, I WILL NOT BE PAYING FOR THIS, AND WAS TOLD, THERE ARE NO OPEN RECALLS AT THIS TIME, THAT I WOULD NEED TO BRING MY CAR IN AND LEAVE FOR THE TECHNICIAN TO CHECK FOR PARTS AND IT MIGHT BE COVERED UNDER AN EXTENDED WARRANTY, I ALSO REQUESTED THEY CHECKED THE DRIVERS SIDE HEAD REST, STATED, THEY MIGHT NOT BE ABLE TO DO THAT. I STRESSED I AM SOMEWHAT AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR NOW ESPECIALLY NOT KNOWING IF THE DRIVERS SIDE HEAD REST WILL DEPLOY WHEN I AM SITTING OR DRIVING MY CAR. I SCHEDULED AN APPOINTMENT TO TAKE MY CAR IN THE MORNING AT 7:00 A.M. AND ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE PERSON I WAS TALKING TO CHANGED THE RESERVATION TO WEDNESDAY

The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the electronic throttle body was replaced twice; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to a second dealer Northtown Chrysler Jeep Dodge Fiat (2020 Niagara Falls Blvd, Tonawanda, NY 14150), where the PCM was replaced twice along with the Controller Area Network. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 40,000.
THE BACK OF BOTH HEAD REST HAVE POPPED OPEN.
WHILE THE VEHICLE IS MOVING AND WITH MY FEET ON THE GAS PEDAL THE RPMS DROP, THE CAR SHUDDERS. ABOUT 5 SECONDS LATER THE RPMS JUMP UP BUT DOESN'T GAIN SPEED. ALSO THE CAR JERKS BEFORE ACCELERATING VERY SLOW. NO CODES BUT CLEARLY THERE'S A PROBLEM.
I WAS DRIVING AND HEARD A LOUD POP. LOOKED AT MY PASSENGER SEAT AND SAW THE HEAD REST CAME OFF THE PLASTIC HOLDING IN AIRBAG. THE BAG DID NOT DEPLOY AS FAR AS I CAN SEE. I WAS IN MOTION WHEN IT POPPED. I CALLED TO SEE IF DEALERSHIP WOULD FIX BUT THEY WANT ME TO PAY SINCE THERE IS NO RECALL BUT I FEEL WHEN IT COMES TO SAFETY IT SHOULD BE FIXED WITH NO CHARGE TO CUSTOMER ESPECIALLY WHEN IT WAS A MALFUNCTION ON CAR.
HAD TO REPLACE COMPUTER IN MY CAR TWICE. FRONT DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT WIRING KEEPS BURNING OUT. AFRAID THIS CAR WILL CATCH FIRE WITH MYSELF AND MY FAMILY IN IT. VEHICLE STOPPED IN MOVING TRAFFIC ALMOST CAUSING ACCIDENTS. BACK AND FORTH TO DEALERSHIPS FOR GUESS WORK. NO FAITH IN DODGE ANYMORE. STOPPED SEVERAL MORE TIMES AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP. WAS WITHOUT A CAR FOR SO LONG ALMOST LOST MY EMPLOYMENT. CAR WOULD START MOST MORNINGS JUST TURN BUT NOT CRANK. WILL UPLOAD DOCUMENTS WHEN I GO PICK IT UP FROM THE DEALERSHIP YET AGAIN.
MY SEATBELTS WILL UNLATCH WHENEVER IT FEELS LIKE IT, THE SEATBELTS WON'T GO IN BY THEMSELVES ANYMORE, AMD THIS ALL HAPPENED AFTER WE FIXED THE RECALL. THEN ALL IN A YEAR THE THROTTLE BODY QUIT WORKING, THE ALTERNATOR STOPPED WORKING, IT WILL NOT KEEP A CHARGE, AND SOMETIMES WHEN YOUR DRIVING FOR NO REASON AT ALL THE INSIDE LIGHTS WILL DIM AND BRIGHTEN. THIS ALL HAPPENS WHILE IN MOTION EXCEPT THE BATTERY CONSTANTLY DYING EVEN THOUGH THE ALTERNATOR AND BATTERY ARE NEW.
MY CAR IS A 2014 DOGE AVENGER THAT HAS THE OCCUPANCY RESTRAIN FAILURE CODE. I HAVE DONE SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THE GM PUT ONLY A CERTAIN NUMBER OF THESE CARS ON THE RECALL LIST: HOWEVER, MY CAR WAS NOT PLACED ON THE LIST. UNFORTUNATELY FOR ME, I AM HAVING THAT ISSUE. I WOULD LIKE TO ASK IF THERE IS ANYTHING POSSIBLE YOU COULD DO TO GET MY RECALL SERVICE BY DODGE.
BOTH OF MY HEADRESTS DEPLOYED WITHOUT ANY TYPE OF COLLISION. THE FIRST HAPPENED A FEW MONTHS AGO, MY PASSENGER SIDE DEPLOYED OVERNIGHT WHEN THE CAR WAS PARKED IN THE CARPORT. THE PLASTIC CLIPS WERE BROKEN. THEN ON 7/15/2020, THE DRIVERS SIDE HEADREST DEPLOYED AT SOME POINT DURING THE 8 HOURS MY CAR WAS PARKED AT WORK. THANKFULLY NO ONE WAS IN THE SEAT EITHER TIME BECAUSE THAT WOULD HAVE RESULTED IN INJURY. I HAVE RESEARCHED AND FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2011-2013 AVENGER MODELS, BUT APPARENTLY THEY DECIDED NOT TO CHANGE ANYTHING FOR THE 2014 MODEL, THERE ARE TONS OF COMPLAINTS, SOME WITH INJURY, MOST WITH RIDICULOUS REPAIR BILLS AND ALL THIS IS DUE TO FAULTY CHEAP PLASTIC CLIPS THAT APPARENTLY JUST SNAP DURING NORMAL USE. WE SHOULD NOT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THIS, CHRYSLER SHOULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE, THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPLACED WITH A BETTER, MORE SUBSTANTIAL SYSTEM.
THE CAR ENGINES LIGHTS CAME ON WHILE DRIVING THE ELECTRIC THROTTLE BODY LIGHT AND ECS LIGHTS CAME ON. THE CAR IS LOSING OIL AND OVERHEATING WHILE DRIVING. I TOOK THE CAR TO A SHOP AND THEY FOUND AN OIL LEAK BUT DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHERE THE OIL LEAK IS COMING FROM. OIL IS SPILLING ALL OVER THE TRANSMISSION. I CONTACTED DODGE SINCE THE CAR HAS 89,000 MILES ON IT AND THEY IGNORED THE PROBLEM. THE CAR SPUTTERS IN THE MIDDLE OF INTERSECTION IT DRIVES AT 2000 RPMS WITHOUT GAS PEDAL BEING PRESS. THE BRAKES DEPRESS ON THEIR OWN. WHY IS THERE NO INVESTIGATION DONE ON THESE DODGE AVENGERS. DO SOMEONE HAVE TO LOSE THEIR LIFE IN ORDER TO FIX THESE ISSUES?
WHILE THE CAR WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP (STATIONARY) WITH NO OTHER CARS AROUND, THE HEADREST ON THE DRIVERS SIDE SNAPPED OPEN JERKING THE DRIVERS HEAD FORWARD.
PASSENGER REACTIVE HEADREST DEPLOYED ON ITS OWN DUE TO WEAK AND FAULTY PLASTIC. THE PIN PULLED THROUGH THE PLASTIC ON ITS OWN ALLOWING THE HEADREST TO DEPLOY, WHILE THE PIN WAS STILL LOCKED DOWN.LUCKILY IT HAPPENED WHEN OPENING CAR DOOR, IF ON DRIVERS SIDE WHILE DRIVING WOULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.
THE VEHICLE STALLS AND JERKS VIOLENTLY DURING ACCELERATION AT TAKE OFF AFTER A COMPLETE STOP. IT STRUGGLES ACCELERATING THROUGH INTERSECTIONS ALSO AT MAKING LEFT N RIGHT TURNS. AT RANDOM TIMES THE VEHICLE STOPS IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION AFTER TAKE OFF AND CAUSES CARS BEHIND YOU AND THOSE WHO CHOOSE TO PROCEED TO RUN THE RED LIGHT GOING THE INTERSECTION TO HIT YOU. THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE MAKING IT A SAFETY ISSUE. COME TO FIND OUT ONLINE THAT ALOT OF DODGE AVENGERS ARE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. CAR ALSO DOES THIS WHILE MAKING LEFT AND RIGHT TURNS. IT JERKS N LOSES ACCELERATION RANDOMLY NO MATTER HIGH ROMS OR LOW RPMS. ON THE HIGHWAY OR STREET YOU CAN'T GAIN ACCELERATION TO PASS OR TO GET OVER WITHOUT RISKING AN ACCIDENT DUE TO NOT MOVING WITH THE SPEED OF TRAFFIC. ALSO AM UNKNOWN OIL LEAK APPEARS HAD THE CAR VALVE COVER GASKET AND OIL PAN GASKET REPLACE AND STILL LOOSES OIL. OIL IS SHOOTING ALL OVER THE ENGINE AND ENGINE MAKING UNKNOWN SOUND THAT DOESN'T TRIGGER A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. BUT THERE IS A TICKING SOUND COMING FROM ENGINE. TOOK IT TO A DODGE DEALERSHIP THEY FOUND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE ENGINE OR TRANSMISSION. I BELIEVE DODGE ACKNOWLEDGE THESE PROBLEMS BUT REFUSE TO FIX WHAT MAJORITY OF THEIR CUSTOMERS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 DODGE AVENGER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, THE DRIVER'S FRONTAL HEAD REST AIR BAG DEPLOYED INDEPENDENTLY WITHOUT WARNING. THERE WERE NO REPORTED INJURIES DUE TO THE DEPLOYMENT. THE CONTACT DROVE THE VEHICLE TO BENNY BOYD LOCKHART CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (2000 S COLORADO ST, LOCKHART, TX 78644) WHERE HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS GIVEN AN ESTIMATE FOR THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
CAR IS OVERHEATING RAPIDLY, AIR IS WARM ON ONE SIDE, COLD ON THE OTHER. ENGINE WILL BEGIN STEAMING ALMOST AS THOUGH IT IS ABOUT TO CATCH FIRE AND THERE IS OFTEN TIMES A SMELL LIKE SOMETHING IS BURNING COMING FROM THE ENGINE. IF THE CAR IDLES FOR EVEN JUST AT A STOP LIGHT OR THE CAR IS SLOWED DOWN, THE CAR BEGINS TO OVERHEAT RAPIDLY. IT HAS ALSO BEEN OVERHEATING WHILE BEING DRIVEN AT 70 MPH. THE FANS ARE NOT ALWAYS KICKING IN EITHER.
I WAS MOVING MY SEAT BACK AND THE HEADREST POPPED OUT. THE CLIPS INSIDE BROKE AND IT WON'T GO BACK INTO PLACE. THIS COULD'VE HAPPENED WHILE I WAS DRIVING, WHICH IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS SLOWLY DRIVEN TO HER RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE AIR BAG SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED TWICE. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 109,000.

THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A FAULTY FUEL LINE THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THIS IS THE THIRD TIME THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY HAS FAILED. THE DEALERS KEEP REPLACING THAT SPECIFIC PART AND THERE MUST BE MORE WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE . THE VEHICLE IS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE, IT BOGS AND JUMPS AND IS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE.
TEMPERATURE GAUGE ALARM CAME ON WHILE DRIVING AND NOTICED THE GAUGE SHOWED IT WAS REALLY HOT. PULLED OVER TO LET IT COOL DOWN AND NOTICED THE FAN UNDER THE HOOD WASN'T RUNNING TO HELP COOL IT DOWN.
THE HEATER CORE IS WORKING AND THE BEND DOOR ACTUATORS ARE WORKING BUT THE HEAT ONLY WORKS ON THE DRIVER SIDE AND NOT THE PASSENGER SIDE. I'VE SEEN MANY FORUMS OF PEOPLE SAYING THE SAME THINGS ABOUT 2012-2014 MODELS. THIS SEEMS TO BE A BIG ISSUE WITH THIS CAR. IT IS WINTER NOW AND ONLY HALF THE HEAT WORKS, AS WELL AS ONLY HALF THE DEFROSTER AS WELL. THE CAR ONLY HAS 105K MILES ON IT AND I'VE HAD NO ISSUES TILL THIS AND OTHER RECALLS. DODGE SHOULD RECALL THESE AS IT'S A ISSUE WITH MANY AVENGER MODELS. THE VEHICLE DOES IT JUST IDLING IN A PARK SPOT OR DRIVING. NOT SURE IF IT'S DEFECTIVE ACTUATOR BENDING DOORS OR THE HEATER CORE ITSELF?! PLZ LOOK FURTHER INTO THIS AND HOPEFULLY THIS ISSUE CAN BE CONSIDERED FOR A RECALL.
DRIVERS SIDE OF CAR BLOWS HEAT. PASSENGER SIDE BLOWS COLD
I OWN A 2014 DODGE AVENGER IN WHICH ONLY COLD AIR COMES OUT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME WHAT I HAD EXPECTED ALL ALONG, A CLOGGED HEATER CORE. I HAVE DONE A LOT OF RESEARCH ON THIS AND FOUND OUT DODGE IS AND WAS WELL AWARE OF THIS MANUFACTURING DEFECT. CLOGGED HEATER CORE BECAUSE OF FAULTY FLUSHING OF THE WATER JACKETS ON THE V6 ENGINE. I AM VERY LIMITED ON DRIVING MY CAR IN THE WINTER BECAUSE MY WINDSHIELD WILL NOT DEFROST ON THE PASSENGER SIDE, WHICH IS A HAZARD. THIS FAULT IS NOT BECAUSE OF MISUSE OF THE VEHICLE BUT A MANUFACTURING FAULT OF DODGE. GUESS WHAT, THEY WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE CORRECTED BY THE MANUFACTURER AND NOT BY THE CONSUMER. IF DODGE KNEW OF THIS DEFECT AND THE CONSUMER WASN'T NOTIFIED ISN'T IT FRAUD. I NEED HELP..
MY ENGINE STARTS SHAKING WHEN I CUT MY CAR ON
ISSUES WITH SEATBELTS WHICH POP OUT WHEN TENSION OR FORCE IS APPLIED ON THE BELT. PASSENGER SEAT BELT HAD FIRST STARTED TO SHOW SIGNS OF FAILURE WHEN THE SEAT BELTS SAFETY BUTTON WOULD UNCLASP WHEN BRAKING. AND WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR UP TO THE DEALERSHIP. IT HAD TO GET EXPECTED, NO RECEIPT FOR IT OR NOTHING SO I DON'T KNOW WHAT THEY HAD EXPECTED. THEREFORE, EVERYTHING WAS GOOD. I HAD TO BRING IT BACK TO DEALERSHIP AFTER I CALLED THEM ABOUT THE PROBLEM. I HAVE PAID TWO CARS OFF AND THIS IS MY WORSE EXPERIENCE I HAD WITH A VEHICLE I WAS DRIVING. WHILE DRIVING DOWN INTERSTATE 75 S @70 MPH DRIVER SIDE HEADREST DETACHED FROM THE BACK. MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. PURCHASED BRAND NEW OFF THE LOT IN 2014. NO ACCIDENTS WITH THE CAR PAST OR RECENT. NO BUMPER DAMAGE. PULLED OVER AND COULD NOT GET THE FRONT TO RESET BACK INTO THE FRAME. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP, BECAUSE THE VIN IS OUT OF THE RANGE OF A PREVIOUS RECALL DODGE WON'T FIX IT. WE HAVEN'T GOTTEN A QUOTE YET FOR WHAT OUT OF POCKET EXPENSE WILL BE.
