TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMALLY WHEN RESTARTED BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED FIVE TIMES. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTED INTO FWD INDEPENDENTLY WHILE TRAVELING BETWEEN 35-40 MPH. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE THE SERVICE 4WD LIGHT CAME ON. AT SOME POINT AFTER THAT THE TRANSFER CASE SHIFTED INTO 4HI LOCK.I SCANNED THE OBDII AND HAD NO CODES PRESENT. ALSO SCANNED THE 4WD SELECTOR SWITCH AND IT SHOWED THE SWITCH WAS OPERATIONAL, BUT THE TRANSFER CASE SHIFT MOTOR WAS NOT SHIFTING. DROPPED THE VEHICLE OFF AT AN INDEPENDENT TRANSMISSION SHOP ONE WEEK LATER AND IT SAT FOR A FEW HOURS AND WHEN THEY WENT TO ROAD TEST IT NO WARNING LIGHTS AND IT WAS NOW IN AWD. AGAIN THE REPAIR SHOP DID AN OBD SCAN AND CAME UP WITH NO CODES.IF THESE VEHICLES WERE TO SHIFT INTO FOUR WHEEL DRIVE (LOW OR HIGH RANGE ) AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 65 MPH I FEEL MAJOR DRIVELINE DAMAGE AND OR FAILURE WILL RESULT,WHICH COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. *TR
2005 DODGE DURANGO 5.7 HEMI. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD THE SERVICE 4WD WARNING LIGHT STARTED BLINKING AND THE 4WD STARTED TO ACTIVATE ON ITS OWN. AS THE VEHICLE SITS WHEN ACTIVATING THE DOOR LOCKS WITH THE REMOTE THE 4WD ACTUATES ON ITS OWN. *TR
I WAS DRIVING IN MY APARTMENT COMPLEX AND AS I SLOWED DOWN TO TURN MY TRUCK JUST SHUT OFF. STEERING WHEEL LOCKS AND I AM NOT ABLE TO TURN. I HAVE TO PRESS HARD ON THE BRAKE FOR IT TO STOP AND I CAN THEN PUT IT INTO PARK AND TURN THE KEY TO TURN IT BACK ON. I HAVE TWO SMALL CHILDREN OF THE AGE OF 1 & 2. HAVING THEM IN THE CAR WITH ME WHEN THIS HAPPENS IS NERVE WRECKING. IT'S HAPPENED AT LEAST ONCE OR TWICE EVERY 2-3 WEEKS. I HAVE ASKED MECHANICS IN REGARDS TO THIS AND HAVE HAD IT CHECKED AND NO ONE CAN TELL ME WHAT IT IS. THE PREVIOUS OWNER SAID THAT IT DID THE SAME NOT ALL THE TIME BUT WHEN HE TOOK IT TO THE DODGE DEALER, THEY COULDN'T TELL HIM WHAT IT WAS EITHER. MY LAST (MOST RECENT) INCIDENT WAS ON 5/10/14 - THE CAR SHUT OFF FOUR TIMES THAT DAY. 2 HAPPENED WHILE I WAS STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT, ONE HAPPENED AS I WAS SLOWING DOWN TO PARK AND ONE HAPPENED WHILE I WAS TURNING AND THE CAR SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE TURNING LANE WHILE MY FAMILY WAS IN THE CAR WITH ME. THE OTHER ISSUE I HAVE IS WITH MY FUEL TANK. I CAN'T FILL MY TANK BECAUSE WHEN I DO ... IT SPITS OUT GAS. ALSO, I'VE HAD TO SWITCH OUT MY IL PRESSURE SWITCH TWICE SINCE FEBRUARY 2014. I HAVE NO IDEA AS TO WHY IT'S DOING THAT. *TR
THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS AND THE CAR IS NOT ABLE TO BE STARTED. *TR
2005 DODGE DURANGO 5.7 HEMI STALLS UPON ACCELERATION. DURING ACCELERATION IN THE FORWARD DIRECTION THE VEHICLE WILL LOSE ALL ELECTRICAL FUNCTION AND SHUT DOWN THE ENGINE CAUSING THE MOTORIST TO BE STRANDED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION OR OTHER DANGEROUS SECTION OF ROADWAY. LOSS OF ELECTRICAL FUNCTION CAN BE ATTRIBUTED TO THE CLOSE PROXIMITY OF THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE TO THE EGR PIPE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ENGINE. DURING ACCELERATION THE ENGINE WILL TORQUE OVER CAUSING THE EGR PIPE TO MAKE CONTACT WITH THE BATTERY CABLE THUS CAUSING THE PLASTIC SHEATHING TO BECOME CHAFED. OVER TIME THIS CHAFING WILL WEAR THROUGH THE PLASTIC SHEATHING AND EXPOSE THE BARE COPPER WIRE ALLOWING IT TO COME IN CONTACT WITH THE METAL EGR PIPE. THE CONTACT OF THE COPPER WIRE FROM THE POSITIVE BATTERY CABLE TO THE METAL EGR PIPE CREATES A DIRECT SHORT WHICH IN TURN SHUTS DOWN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND ANY ENGINE CONTROL FUNCTIONS. IN SOME INSTANCES THIS SHORT CAN CAUSE THE BATTERY CABLE TO HEAT UP ENOUGH TO CATCH THE PLASTIC INSULATION ON FIRE AND POSSIBLY LEAD TO BATTERY EXPLOSION.
FUEL OVERFLOWS WHEN YOU FILL THE TANK UP. GAS KICKS BACK SMELL GAS FUMES WHILE PARKED SOME TIMES. DEALER SAYS ITS NOT COVERED. BUT THERE IS A RECALL. *TR
I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM SHOPPING WITH MY HUSBAND AND WHEN I TURNED THE REAR END, IT JERKED AND ALMOST MADE ME WRECK. I HAD TO PULL OVER AT TIM HORTON'S AND THE VEHICLE FINALLY CORRECTED ITSELF AND EVERYTHING WAS OKAY. IT HAPPENED AGAIN LAST NIGHT, AS I WAS LEAVING FROM GOODWILL AND AS I WAS TURNING OUT OF MY PARKING SPOT IT DID IT AGAIN, BUT THIS TIME WORSE IF SOMEONE WAS IN FRONT OF ME I WOULD HAVE HIT THEM WITHOUT MY CONTROL. AS I WAS TURNING ONTO MY NARROW BRIDGE LAST NIGHT IT DID IT AGAIN AND I ALMOST WRECKED INTO THE BRIDGE AND INTO MY CREEK, I THEN DECIDED THAT IT WAS DANGEROUS AND WASN'T GOING TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE UNTIL IT GETS FIXED. *JB
WHEN VEHICLE IS OFF, SWITCHING NOISE FROM THE TRANSFER CASE SWITCHING MOTOR ON THE AWD DODGE DURANGO MOVING ON ITS OWN FROM AWD TO 4LOCK TO 4LO OCCURS. SRC 4WD LIGHT MAY COME ON BUT THEN CLEARS WHEN ENGINE IS TURNED OFF. THE SWITCHING IS NOT CONTROLLED BY THE NORMAL OPERATIONAL CONTROL THAT WOULD BE DONE BY DRIVE. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT SHORTING WIRING IN VEHICLE CAUSING A FIRE DUE TO SHORTING. WHEN UNLOCKING THE DOORS WITH THE KEY FLOB, THE SWITCHING ACTION MAY START WHICH SHOULD NOT BE RELATED TO THE CHANGING OF AWD, 4LOCK & 4LO. *TR
2 PROBLEMS: 1) EVEN THOUGH OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP IS INSISTENT THAT WE DON'T HAVE A RECALL, I CAN SEE A RECALL ON YOUR PAGE ABOUT WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTORS. OUR WIPERS COME ON EVERY TIME WE START THE VEHICLE, AND THEY WORK SPORADICALLY. SOMETIMES WHILE THEY'RE ON, THEY WON'T COME ON AT ALL, AS MENTIONED IN THE RECALL INFORMATION. WHY ISN'T MINE COVERED? 2) BIGGEST PROBLEM: SEVERAL TIMES (UPWARDS OF TEN TIMES) I HAVE BEEN GOING SLOW, USUALLY MAKING A TURN, AND MY ENGINE STALLS. I HAVE TO TURN THE KEY OFF AND THEN RESTART, AND I'M OKAY AGAIN. TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC IN THE LAST PART OF JULY/FIRST PART OF AUGUST LAST YEAR, AND HE REPLACED THE FUEL PUMP. IT DIDN'T OCCUR AGAIN UNTIL DECEMBER, WHILE WE WERE ON VACATION- WE WERE SLOWLY GOING UP A HILL AND IT STALLED. HAD TO TURN THE KEY OFF AND THEN RE-START IT. IT HADN'T DONE IT AGAIN UNTIL A COUPLE DAYS AGO. IT DID IT THREE TIMES IN ONE DAY, THEN HAS BEEN DOING IT EACH DAY SINCE. I'M REALLY AFRAID THAT THE DURANGO IS GOING TO DIE IN THE MIDDLE OF TRAFFIC AND I'LL GET HIT. I HAVE FOUR YOUNG KIDS, AND I AM PANICKED THINKING ABOUT HAVING TO DRIVE IT WITH THEM INSIDE, BECAUSE I'M AFRAID THAT WE'RE GOING TO GET HIT AND HURT. IT'S SO SCARY THAT I'M TEMPTED TO TRADE IT IN- THOUGH I CAN'T REALLY AFFORD IT, WE JUST BOUGHT THIS THING USED LAST YEAR. I'M WONDERING IF IT DID THIS FOR THE PREVIOUS OWNERS AS WELL. THERE ARE COMPLAINTS ALL OVER THE INTERNET ABOUT THIS SAME PROBLEM, BUT NO FIX FOR IT. EVEN IF I COULD GET A MECHANIC TO TELL ME WHAT IT IS AND FIX IT, I'D DO THAT, BUT NOBODY SEEMS TO KNOW WHAT THE ANSWER IS. IT'S OBVIOUSLY A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE!! PLEASE HELP!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER REFUELING, FUEL WOULD SPRAY OUT OF THE FILLER NECK REGARDLESS OF THE FUEL LEVEL CAPACITY. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V003000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE) AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED TO COMPLETE THE RECALL SERVICE WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO PROVIDE AN EXPECTED DATE FOR THE REMEDY PART TO BECOME AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 220,000.
WHEN YOU FILL THE TANK UP WITH GAS AND THE NOZZLE SHUTS OFF A LOT OF GASOLINE SPILLS OUT OF THE TANK ONTO THE DURANGO AND ON THE GROUND. I'M THE SECOND OWNER. THE FIRST OWNER WARNED ME OF THIS BEFORE HAND. HE SAID IT HAS ALWAYS DONE THIS AND NEVER DID ANYTHING ABOUT IT. I CALLED CHRYSLER AND THEY SAID "MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL." THE RECALL WAS FOR THE CHECK VALVE. THEY ALSO SAID "BRING IT IN TO A DEALER AND HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT." I ASKED IF THEY WOULD FIX IT AT THEIR COST. THEY SAID "THERE IS NO GUARANTY." THIS IS A POTENTIALLY VERY DANGEROUS ISSUE THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR. *TR
WHEN YOU ARE FILLING UP THE GAS TANK AND THE NOZZLE SHUTS OFF WHEN IT'S FULL. THE TANK OR CHECK VALVE DOESN'T CLOSE AND A LOT OF GASOLINE FLOWS BACK OUT ONTO THE SIDE OF THE DURANGO AND ON THE GROUND. THIS COULD POTENTIALLY BE VERY DANGEROUS. *TR
THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED, THE TRANSFER CASE WENT INTO NEUTRAL, ON IT'S OWN, WHILE DRIVING ON A DIVIDED HIGHWAY, WITH NO SHOULDER. IT KIND OF CREATED A TRAFFIC JAM. LONG STORY SHORT. A FRIEND TOWED ME HOME. I RESET THE TRANSFER CASE PER THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL, AND IT WENT BACK INTO GEAR. STILL DO NOT KNOW WHY IT WENT INTO NEUTRAL IN THE FIRST PLACE. NOW, WHEN YOU OPEN THE DOORS, THE TRANSFER CASE MOTOR OPERATES LIKE CRAZY, FOR UP TO 30 SECONDS, AND SOME TIMES LONGER. I GOT ON LINE AND HAVE FOUND OUT THAT IS A PROBLEM EXPERIENCED BY MANY DURANGO AWD OWNERS. I BOUGHT IT USED AND THE PREVIOUS OWNERS CLAIMED THAT IT NEVER DID IT BEFORE. ALSO, WHEN FILLING THE TANK UP, THE FILLER NECK WILL "PURGE" FUEL OUT ONTO THE GROUND AND YOUR FEET. THIS IS LISTED AS A DEALER RECALL, AND MINE WAS LOOKS TO HAVE BEEN DONE, BUT THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. *TR
WHEN FILLING THE FUEL TANK UP, THE GAS POURS OUT AND GOES EVERYWHERE THE CAR, GROUND, AND ME. *TR
ENGINE STALLS WITH NO WARNING, AFFECTING BRAKING AND STEERING WHILE MOVING, HAS HAPPENED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, IS INTERMITTENT AND IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN.
THE VEHICLES DASH BOARD LIGHTS WILL ALL LIGHT UP, AT ONE POINT I WOULD HAVE THE GAS FLOORED AND IT WOULD FEEL LIKE I'M TOWING A HOUSE IT STARTED GETTING WORSE TO THE POINT THE CAR WOULD STALL WHILE DRIVING SO I WOULD PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND IT WOULD START BACK UP WHEN THE LIGHTS AREN'T ON IT RUNS FINE BUT ONCE THE LIGHT COME ON THE DASH BOARD IT ACTS UP AND ALL THE LIGHTS COME ON TEMPERATURE, CHECK ENGINE, AIR BAG, 4X4, OIL LIGHT ,BATTERY LIGHT ,ETC DODGE FLASHED MY COMPUTER IT WORKED FOR A WEEK AND THEN STARTED AGAIN I HAVE HAD MANY MECHANICS LOOK AT IT ALONG WITH DODGE AND NO ONE CAN FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM , RECENTLY STARTING 5/27/15 THE PROBLEMS HAVE PROCEEDED TO GET EXTREMELY DANGEROUS NOW ONCE ALL THE LIGHTS LIGHT UP IT STALLS AND MAY NOT RESTART SEVERAL TIMES I'VE BEEN STUCK ON THE HIGHWAY WAITING AN HOUR OR TWO TO RESTART IT AND NOW IT ONLY GETS ME A FEW FEET THEN STALLS PLUS ITS NOW DOING IT WITH NO LIGHTS ON THE DASH ,RPMS ,MPH ETC , AND WHEN IT DRIVES SOMETIMES THERE IS NOTHING ON DASH BUT WHEN I HIT BRAKES ALL THE GAUGES WILL SHOOT UP TEMPERATURE AND FUEL EVEN IF ITS NOT A FULL RANK IT WILL SAY IT THEN WHEN I STEP ON GAS THE DASH BOARD GOES OUT, I HAVE CONTACTED CORPORATE DODGE TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE TELLING THEM I'VE SEEN SEVERAL NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS THE SAME AS MINE BUT YET NO RECALL SO THEY NOW WANT ME ONCE AGAIN TO TAKE IT TO DODGE, JUNE 9TH 2015 , BUT TODAY JUNE 3RD 2015 , I STALLED IN THE STREET ON RT 9 AND IT WOULD NOT START AT ALL TO THE POINT I HAD TO CALL A TOW TRUCK THEN ONCE THE TOW TRUCK DROPPED IT AT MY HOUSE IT STARTED BUT ALL THE LIGHTS WERE LIT UP ON DASH ,IF I WAS ABLE TO POST PICTURES AND VIDEOS ON HERE I WOULD BECAUSE I VIDEO THE DASH EVERY TIME IT DOES IT AND I PLAN TO SHOW DODGE THE VIDEOS ON THE 9TH , DODGE NEEDS TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE. *TR
4WD ENGAGES WITHOUT SWITCH BEING THROWN. 4WD ENGAGES AND DISENGAGES AT WILL. SO FAR JUST ANNOYING, BUT COULD CAUSE CRASH IF IT ENGAGES ON TURN AT MEDIUM SPEED. *TR
MY 05 DODGE DURANGO WILL ENGAGE IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, AND ENGAGE WHILE TRUCK IS IN PARK AND ENGINE OFF.
MY 2005 DURANGO STARTED THIS ABOUT 2 WKS AGO; SEARCHING OTHER FORUMS AND MY MECHANIC SEARCHED HIS SITES, IT'S MOST LIKELY AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE HAVING TO DO WITH THE AC SHORTING OUT VOLTAGE TO THE TRANSFER CASE...I AM SENDING A LETTER OFF TO DODGE CORPORATE AS THERE ARE SO MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS ISSUE FROM OTHER DODGE DURANGO & RAM OWNERS, WHO LIKE ME, FEEL IT SHOULD BE A RECALL ISSUE. I AM NOT ABOUT TO BRING IT IN ONLY TO HAVE A MECHANIC "TRY" TO FIX THE ISSUE AND REPLACE THE WRONG PART SO I HAVE TO GO IN REPEATEDLY AND SPEND MONEY I DON'T HAVE UNTIL (IF EVEN) IT IS SOLVED. WE WERE FILLING THE FUEL TANK AT A GAS STATION, AFTER THE TANK WAS FILLED IT SPRAYED FUEL ON MY WIFE. I HAVE INVESTIGATED THIS ISSUE ONLINE AND FOUND THIS RECALL. WHEN I WAS TURNING INTO MY NEIGHBORHOOD GOING ABOUT 5 TO 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE POWER STEERING JUST SHUT DOWN ON ME. I HAD TO COAST IT OVER TO THE SIDE AND TURN OFF ENGINE AND RESTART. THANKFULLY, THERE WAS NO OTHER CARS ON THE ROAD AT THE TIME. THIS IS THE 3RD TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP 2 YEARS AGO AND THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM SO THEY JUST FIXED SOMETHING WITH THE ELECTRICAL COMPUTER SYSTEM AND SENT ME ON MY WAY. A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS LATER. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AS IT GIVES THE DRIVER NO WARNING AT ALL. HAS ALWAYS HAPPENED AT LOW SPEEDS OR DECELERATING. *TR
THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN STALLING WITHOUT WARNING ON COMMON BASIS. NO ENGINE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. *TR
THIS IS MY 2ND 2005 DODGE DURANGO THAT HAS THE EXACT SAME ISSUE AS DESCRIBED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V003000. CHRYSLER RECALL H45. WHEN FILLING THE TANK, GAS SPITS BACK AT YOU. GASOLINE HITS YOUR PANTS, SHOES, AND ALL OVER THE GAS STATION PAVEMENT. THIS HAPPENS EVERYTIME YOU FILL THE TANK. THE WORKAROUND IS NOT FILL THE TANK ALL THE WAY BUT THAT IS A HIT OR MISS ISSUE. I CALL CHRYSLER AND THEY SAID THEY DON'T SEE THIS ISSUE WITH MY 2ND DURANGO. I'D TYPICALLY ACCEPT IT BUT SEEING HOW BOTH MY DURANGOS HAD THE EXACT SAME ISSUE IT IS A LITTLE BIT HARD TO SWALLOW. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD THE ISSUE FOR AT LEAST A YEAR AND I AM READY FOR CHRYSLER TO FIX IT BEFORE THERE IS A FIRE OR OTHER EPA ISSUE. THANKS *TR

WHEN COMPARED WITH OTHER SAFETY DEFECT INVESTIGATIONS AND RECALLS OF CONDITIONS THAT RESULT IN STALLING DURING LOW-SPEED DECELERATION WITH IMMEDIATE ENGINE RESTART POSSIBLE, THE FAILURE RATE IN THE SUBJECT VEHICLES IS LOW. DODGE HAS RECALLED SOME OF THE 2005 DURANGO'S FOR THIS PROBLEM AND REPLACED THE FUEL TANKS, BUT MY VIN IS NOT ON THE LIST EVEN THOUGH IT HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. STARTED DURANGO AND LET IT WARM UP AT IDLE FOR 3 MINS. STARTED TO HEAR A SQUEAK THEN A SLIGHT TAPPING AND NOW SOUNDS LIKE LOOSE METAL IN THE ENGINE. OIL CHANGED EVERY 3-4K MILES. HAD OIL CHANGED TODAY AND NOW WORSE. *TR
WHEN FILLING THE TANK, THE PUMP SHUTS OFF AND GASOLINE CONTINUES TO SPILL OUT. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AND WE HAVE TO AVOID TOPPING OFF THE TANK IN ORDER TO AVOID THE SPILL. WHEN DOING SOME RESEARCH, WE FOUND THAT THERE WAS A RECALL IN 2009 FOR THE FUEL SYSTEM/GASOLINE STORAGE TANK ASSEMBLY. TODAY (4/8/13), WE CONTACTED AND SPOKE TO OUR DODGE/CHRYSLER DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THERE WAS INDEED A RECALL IN 2009 AND APPARENTLY OUR VEHICLE VIN WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL AND THAT THERE WERE NO EXTENSIONS. WE ARE JUST IN AWE, THAT A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD AND SOMETHING THIS DANGEROUS WOULD NOT CONTINUE HAVE AN EXTENSION UNDER THE RECALL. MY 2005 DODGE DURANGO HAD THE COMPLETED RECALL H45 WORKED DONE ON 4/27/2009. THE DODGE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE GAS TANK PER THE H45 RECALL. THE DODGE DEALERSHIP CONSIDERS THE MATTER CLOSED BUT THE ISSUE HAS NOW OCCURRED WITH THIS NEW INSTALLED TANK. THE VEHICLE HAD 28,994 MILES WHEN THIS WORK WAS DONE. NOW THE VEHICLE HAS 68,000 MILES ON IT AND THE SAME ISSUE OCCURS WHILE FILLING THE GAS TANK UP. UPON SHUT OFF OF THE GAS PUMP, FUEL WILL SPIT UP OUT OF THE INLET FUEL TUBE AND LEAVE FUEL ON THE SIDE OF MY SUV AND LEAVE A PUDDLE OF FUEL BELOW THE CAR. I WANTED TO REPORT THIS ISSUE ASAP DUE TO THE FACT THAT RECALL H45 WAS COMPLETED ON THIS VEHICLE BUT PROBLEM IS OCCURING AGAIN. I HAVE A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM THAT CAN'T BE DEFINED OR PIN-POINTED. IT HAS OCCURRED OVER THE LAST YEAR NUMEROUS TIMES. NO ONE CAN SEEM TO FIX. THE TRANSMISSION DROPS OUT INTO NEUTRAL AT HIGH SPEEDS OR DROPS INTO 4WD LOW AT MODERATE SPEEDS, LATELY THE TRANSFER CASE WILL MAKE NOISE WHEN I UNLOCK THE TRUCK AND WHEN I GO TO START IT THE TRANSMISSION GRINDS AND DROPS INTO 4WD LOW!!! WHILE IN AWD THE VEHICLE SWITCHES TO 4 LO BY ITSELF. THIS MAKES IT HARD TO MAKE TURNS, FORWARD AND REVERSE. THE 4 LO LIGHT BLINKS AND SERVICE 4 WD LIGHTS STAYS ON. I DO NOT MANUALLY SWITCH OUT OF AWD, AS 4 WD IS NOT NEEDED. HOWEVER, AS I STATED BEFORE, IT SWITCHES ON ITS OWN. ON THE DATE OF THE INCIDENT, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RETURN TO AWD FROM 4 LO. I WAS TOLD TO UNHOOK THE BATTERY TERMINALS AND AFTER I REPLACE THEM BACK TO THE POSTS, IT WOULD RESET THE AWD. THIS DID NOT WORK. MY CHILDREN AND I WERE STUCK ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD UNTIL HELP ARRIVED. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS TOPIC AND READ COMPLAINTS FROM OTHERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEMS WITH THE SAME VEHICLE. I RECEIVED A LETTER RECENTLY FROM MY LOCAL DODGE DEALER INDICATING MY 2005 DODGE DURANGO WOULD REQUIRE REPAIR FOR SOMETHING CAUSING THE FUEL TO SPILL OUT DURING FILL UP. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME SEVERAL TIMES IN THE PAST AS I WAS UNAWARE THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS. AFTER RECEIVING THIS LETTER A FEW WEEKS AGO I INSPECTED THE QUARTER PANEL UNDERNEATH THE GAS TANK MORE CLOSELY NOTICING BUBBLING OF THE PAINT WITH CHIPPING STARTING. PRESSING ON THE PAINT IT SOUNDED CORROSIVE LIKE RUST. AS I BEGAN TO CHIP SOME OF THE PAINT AWAY I DISCOVERED RUST AND TWO HOLES THAT WERE COMPLETELY THROUGH. LOOKING THROUGH THE HOLES I COULD SEE RUST BEHIND THE BODY. AFTER REVIEWING SEVERAL CAR AND DODGE FORUMS I SEE THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO SEVERAL PEOPLE IN THE SAME AREA OF THE DRIVE QUARTER PANEL. I CAN ONLY ASSUME THERE IS A CORRELATION BETWEEN THE FUEL PROBLEM AND THE RUST THAT APPEARS TO HAVE COME INSIDE OUT TO THE BODY OF THE CAR. THERE IS NO OTHER RUST ON THIS CAR AND HAS BEEN WELL MAINTAINED. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL DEALER WHO INFORMED ME THAT THE RECALL ON THE INLET VALVE IS STILL VALID HOWEVER RUST WOULD NOT BE. IT CONCERNS ME THAT CHRYSLER DOESN'T FEEL RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DAMAGE CAUSED BY THEIR DEFECTIVE ITEM. THE CAR BEGINS TO SPUTTER AND STALL AT CONSTANT SPEEDS, THEN STALLS WHILE RUNNING WHICH DISABLES THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE FOUR WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM ENGAGED INDEPENDENTLY AND CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO BECOME DIFFICULT TO TURN. THE CONTACT RESTARTED THE VEHICLE AND IT FUNCTIONED PROPERLY UNTIL THE FOLLOWING DAY. THE CONTACT WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000.
