05 DODGE DURANGO 5.7L V8 ENGINE STALLS DURING DECELERATION AND TURNS WITH ACCELERATION. EXTREMELY UNSAFE AND HAPPENS FREQUENTLY WITH LOSS OF ALL POWER STEERING AND POWER BREAKING. DRIVING 60MPH ON FREEWAY 331 ENGINE STALLED ON LANE MERGER CAUSES SEVERAL CARS TO SEVERELY BREAK AND THE DURANGO TO RUN OFF THE ROAD IN A DITCH. THE RESULT WAS TOWING THE VEHICLE TO A DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. AFTER VEHICLE WAS PICKED UP WE DROVE THE VEHICLE 100MILES AT WHICH TIME IT STALLED AGAIN CAUSING ANOTHER NEAR FATAL WRECK WITH MY WIFE AND 3 SMALL CHILDREN PRESENT. THIS ISSUE IS A KNOW PROBLEM WITH DDC HOWEVER WE WERE NOT AWARE OF ANY STALLING ISSUES. I FEEL THIS NEEDS TO BE FIXED BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED. I FEEL MY FAMILY WAS PUT IN DANGER OVER AN ISSUE THAT SEEMS VERY COMMON. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE DURANGO. HE RECEIVED RECALL CAMPAIGN NOTICE NUMBER 09V003000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR REPAIR. HOWEVER, THE RECALL REMEDY WAS NOT PERFORMED DUE TO THE UNAVAILABILITY OF THE PART REQUIRED FOR THE REPAIR. THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED ON TWO SEPARATE OCCASIONS REGARDING THE PART BEING ON BACK ORDER. NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
I OWN A 2005 DODGE DURANGO AND EVERY TIME I FILL UP WITH GAS, GAS SPRAYS OUT OF THE GAS FILLER NECK ONCE THE GAS PUMP HAS SHUT OFF. GAS IS SPRAYED OUT ALL OVER THE GROUND, THE VEHICLE AND ME, IF I'M NOT CAREFUL. DODGE STATES IT'S MY PROBLEM TO FIX. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE REFUELING, FUEL WAS EJECTED OUT OF THE FILLER NECK, SOILING THE CONTACT AND THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V003000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE :STORAGE:TANK ASSEMBLY). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. MY 2005 DURANGO STALLS WHEN SLOWING TO A STOP OR SLOWING TO TURN. THERE IS NO WARNING, EVERYTHING JUST STOPS. LOSS OF POWERSTEERING MAKES THE SITUATION VERY UNSETTLING AND DANGEROUS, ESPECIALLY WHEN MAKING AN UNPROTECTED LEFT TURN IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS AND HAVE NOTICE AN INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF STALLS OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS. HAVE NOT YET HAD THE VEHICLE LOOKED AT DUE TO THE INABILITY TO CONSISTENTLY RECREATE THE PROBLEM. *TR
I HAVE THE FUEL SPIT BACK ISSUE ADDRESSED IN CHRYSLER RECALL 05V-034, EVEN THOUGH MY TRUCK WAS BUILT IN 3-05, AFTER THE SUPPOSED DATE OF THE MANUFACTURING FIX. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AS MY GAS TANK SPEWS GASOLINE WHEN FILLED. SINCE MY VIN IS AFTER THE DATE OF THEIR EXPANDED RECALL THE DEALER WILL NOT FIX UNDER THE RECALL. *TR
EVERY TIME WE FILL UP THE FUEL TANK THE GASOLINE WILL SPLASH BACK/SPILL OUT WHEN THE SERVICE PUMP 'CLICKS' OFF. ISSUE STARTED TO OCCUR AT APPROXIMATELY 70000 MILES. VEHICLE IS BUILT AFTER EXISTING RECALLS (CAMPAIGN ID NUMBERS: 09V003000 & 05V034000) -- VEHICLE BUILD DATE 3-4-05'. *TR
THIS IS REGARDING THE LATEST SAFETY RECALL NOTICE H45 TO MY 2005 DODGE DURANGO SUV TO THE FUEL TANK INLET CHECK VALVE. SINCE RECEIVING THIS NOTICE I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO DODGE DEALER IN MOUNT AIRY, MARYLAND, A TOTAL OF SIX TIMES, WHICH DOES NOT INCLUDE VISITS TO ORDER PARTS AND RETURN WHEN THE PART WAS RECEIVED, APPROXIMATELY TWELVE TIME, I'VE BEEN TO THIS DEALER. I HAVE BEEN VERY PATIENT TRYING TO WORK WITH DODGE, BUT I AM LOSING PATIENCE, AS WELL AS ANY CONFIDENCE IN CHRYSLERS STATEMENT 'WE'RE SORRY FOR ANY INCONVENIENCE, BUT WE ARE SINCERELY CONCERNED ABOUT YOUR SAFETY' AS STATED IN THEIR NOTICE. EACH TIME THEY HAVE WORKED ON MY CAR, AND I FILL THE TANK, IT CONTINUES TO SPEW GAS ALL OVER ME, MY CAR, THE GROUND, UNTIL ONE DAY GIVEN THE SITUATION, GAS FUMES IGNITING AND STARTING A CRITICAL MISHAP. THIS IS A DANGEROUS SITUATION AND CHRYSLER REFUSES TO ADDRESS, ON MY BEHALF. AFTER MY THIRD VISIT, I ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT CHRYSLER AT 800-853-1403, WITH MY FRUSTRATIONS, AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO, AND I NEEDED TO WORK WITH MY DEALER IN MT. AIRY TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THIS LATEST VISIT, OCTOBER 19, 2009, WHERE THEY SUPPOSEDLY REPLACED THE ENTIRE TANK, HAS LEFT ME WITH ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS. THE ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON IF FUEL IS BELOW A QUARTER OF A TANK (WHICH HAS NEVER OCCURRED BEFORE) AND THE ODOMETER STATEMENT (WHERE THE NUMBERS ARE) READS 'GASCAP', EVEN THOUGH I REPLACE THE GAS CAP NO DIFFERENTLY THAN I HAVE FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS. I AM VERY CONCERNED ABOUT MY SAFETY AS WELL AS ANYONE THAT HAPPENS TO BE AROUND ME AT THE TIME OF FILL-UP. PLEASE ADVISE ME ON ANYTHING THAT I CAN DO AT THIS POINT. I HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY FOUR YEARS NOW. IT HAS A PERSISTENT AND VERY UNSETTLING PROBLEM OF STALLING FOR NO APPARENT REASON WITH NO CORRESPONDING WARNING LIGHTS ETC. IT JUST DIES AND THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKES FAIL RESULTING IN SIGNIFICANT LOSS OF STEERING AND BRAKING EFFECTIVENESS. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY WITH NO PATTERN OF ORIGIN EVIDENT SEVERAL TIMES OVER THE PAST FEW YEARS. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, IT HAS OCCURRED WHILE PULLING OUT INTO BUSY TRAFFIC LANES ACROSS INTERSECTIONS. I HAVE BEEN ABLE TO PUT IT INTO NEUTRAL AND IMMEDIATELY RESTART IT TO AVOID A COLLISION. I HAVE UTILIZED FUEL CLEANERS AND CHANGED THE SPARK PLUGS ETC. IN A EFFORT TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. IT HAPPENED AGAIN TODAY AT LOW SPEED IN A PARKING LOT FORTUNATELY..JUST DIED WITHOUT WARNING. I RESEARCHED THIS ONLINE AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A COMMON ENGINE PROBLEM COMPLAINT WITH THE DURANGO. TODAY, THIS OCCURRED WITH OVER 3/4 TANK OF FRESH FUEL IN THE TANK. I HAVE A 2005 DODGE DURANGO VIN#[XXX] BUILT 09/04 THAT WHEN I FILL UP THE GAS TANK GASOLINE SPITS BACK BEFORE THE PUMP SHUTS OFF. THERE IS A CHRYSLER RECALL (E01 AND H45) AND MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED DURING THE RECALL DATES. CHRYSLER CONTINUES TO DENY THAT THE VEHICLE IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL BUT HAS OFFERED A "GOOD WILL REPLACEMENT" WHICH COSTS ME $100 OUT OF MY POCKET. MY CHRYSLER CASE/REFERENCE # IS [XXX] . THE LOCAL DEALER VERIFIED THAT THE DEFECT WITH THE TANK WAS THE SAME AS THE RECALL. THE NHTSA ACTION # IS RQ08005. THERE IS A HIGH POTENTIAL OF FIRE, PROPERTY DAMAGE, AND DEATH OR INJURY TO WHO EVER IS NEAR THE VEHICLE WHILE FUELING. AT THE CONCLUSION OF FILLING MY VEHICLE WITH GASOLINE FOLLOWING THE GAS PUMP NOZZLE AUTOMATIC SHUT OFF, APPROXIMATELY 8 OUNCES OF GASOLINE SPEWS FROM THE FILL NOZZLE ONTO THE GROUND. THIS BEGAN OCCURRING 9 MONTHS AGO. PRIOR TO THAT TIME IT NEVER OCCURRED. I HAVE HAVE DRIVEN THE VEHICLE SINCE IT WAS NEW. THIS IS NOT IN INTERMITTENT OCCURRENCE. ONCE IT BEGAN EXHIBITING THIS BEHAVIOR, IT DOES IT CONSISTENTLY EVERY TIME THE TANK IS FILLED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE DURANGO SLE. THE CONTACT STATED WHENEVER SHE WOULD REFILL THE VEHICLE WOULD GASOLINE; THE FUEL WOULD SPEW BACK OUT FROM THE FILLER VALVE. IN ADDITION, THE VEHICLE WOULD ALSO EXHIBIT AN ABNORMAL INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS AND WOULD INTERMITTENTLY STALL. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE GAS CAP, BATTERY, ALTERNATOR, AND THE IDLE SENSORS BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO LOCATE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 09V00300 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: STORAGE: TANK ASSEMBLY) BUT WHEN CONTACTING THE MANUFACTURER, SHE WAS TOLD HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND STATED THEY WOULD ASSIST WITH PARTIAL REPAIR COSTS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,233.
SUMMARY: FUEL ESCAPES FROM VEHICLE AT THE END OF REFUELING. CONSEQUENCE: FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE CAN RESULT IN A FIRE. REMEDY REQUESTED: HAVE DEALER REPLACE THE FUEL TANK ASSEMBLY FREE OF CHARGE, AS IN THE RECALL OF THE SAME DESCRIPTION FOR OTHER 2005 DODGE DURANGOS - NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID #09V003000, CHRYSLER RECALL #H45. PREVIOUSLY MADE A FEW ATTEMPTS TO GET CHRYSLER DEALER IN BURLINGTON, NJ TO EFFECT REPAIR, BUT CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER [XXX]CLAIMED HE COULDN'T DUPLICATE PROBLEM. I WAS NOT WITH THE VEHICLE WHEN HE ALLEGEDLY ATTEMPTED TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM. [XXX] WAS UNTRUTHFUL WHEN I CONFRONTED HIM LAST YEAR ABOUT CHRYSLER CORPORATE KNOWING OF THE PROBLEM AND THAT IT SHOULD BE REPAIRED AT NO CHARGE TO CUSTOMER. NO THAT I'VE FOUND THE NHTSA WEBSITE INFO AND THE H45 RECALL INFO, I MADE ANOTHER ATTEMPT: I CONTACTED CHRYSLER. CASE MANAGER "[XXX]ASSIGNED ME CASE #[XXX] ON APRIL 25, 2011, BUT TOLD ME ON APRIL 28, 2011 THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY A COPAY FOR THE REPAIR. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE INLET CHECK VALVE. THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 52,000.

GASOLINE SPEWING FROM THE GAS TANK OF MY 2005 DODGE DURANGO COULD POTENTIALLY CAUSE BURNS AND/OR SKIN REACTIONS. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ON ALL VEHICLES THAT HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM, NOT JUST A SELECT FEW ACCORDING TO THE VIN. *TR
EVERY TIME THE FUEL TANK IS FILLED ON MY 2005 DODGE DURANGO FUEL SPRAYS OR FLOWS FROM THE FUEL NECK. THIS IS A VEHICLE I JUST PURCHASED USED AND HAS DONE IT EVERY TIME I HAVE FILLED IT. THE VEHICLE HAS NO EVIDENCE OF EVER BEING IN A COLLISION OR HAVING ANY DAMAGE TO THE UNDERCARRIAGE. WE HAVE A DODGE DURANGO 2005 AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED WHILE DRIVING. WHEN DECELERATING TO STOP, THE CAR ENGINE TURNED OFF. THE CAR STARTED AGAIN AFTER PUTTING IN PARK MODE AND TURNING THE IGNITION KEY AGAIN. *TR
NHTSA RECALL # 09V003000 / 2005 DODGE DURANGO / MY DODGE DURANGO HAS EXHIBITED THE SAME PROBLEMS AS VEHICLES COVERED UNDER RECALL # 05V-034. THE PROBLEM IS RELATED TO FUEL SPILLING OUT OF THE FILLER NECK AFTER THE PUMP HAS SHUT OFF. I DISCOVERED THAT CHRYSLER HAD EXPANDED THE RECALL TO INCLUDE ADDITIONAL VEHICLES BUILT BETWEEN 10/13 AND 11/30/2004. THE RECALL STATES THAT PROCESS MODIFICATIONS WERE IMPLEMENTED ON 11/24/04 TO ADDRESS THE SPIT BACK PROBLEM AND THEY BELIEVE THAT THE PROCESS CHANGES WOULD HAVE BEEN INCORPORATED IN ALL VEHICLES BUILT AT THE ASSEMBLY PLANT AS OF 11/30/04. I CHECKED MY VIN NUMBER AND THE DATE THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED (01/05), UPON DISCOVERING IT DID NOT INCLUDE VEHICLES BUILT AFTER 11/04, I CONTACTED A LOCAL DEALER AND EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM I WAS ENCOUNTERING. CONTACTED CHRYSLER DIRECTLY, AFTER EXPLAINING THE ISSUE WITH THE FIRST LEVEL REPRESENTATIVE I WAS TRANSFERRED TO THE NEXT LEVEL (REF # 18546515). AFTER DISCUSSING THE ISSUE IN DEPTH SHE FINALLY AGREED TO HAVE MY LOCAL DEALER EVALUATE THE PROBLEM AND IF IT WAS DETERMINED TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE FUEL TANK/CHECK VALVE THAT CHRYSLER WOULD ASSIST IN PAYING FOR THE REPAIRS. SHE STATED THAT IF THAT WAS THE ISSUE THE COST COULD BE CLOSE TO $1000 FOR THE REPAIR AND I WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR APPROXIMATELY $400. I INSISTED THAT IF IT WAS THE SAME ISSUE AS COVERED IN PREVIOUS RECALLS THAT CHRYSLER SHOULD COVER THE TOTAL COST OF THE REPAIR. THE DEALER'S INVOICE CLEARLY STATES THE PROBLEM WAS FOUND TO BE THE FUEL TANK CHECK VALVE WAS NOT CLOSING BACK. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIRS WERE EXACTLY THE SAME AS COVERED UNDER THE RECALLS. THEY REPLACED THE FUEL TANK, CHECK VALVE AND O-RING. MY PORTION OF THE REPAIR WAS $326. I FEEL CHRYSLER SHOULD REIMBURSE ME FOR MY OUT OF POCKET THE REPAIR. *TR

SINCE PURCHASING THE VEHICLE THREE YEARS AGO I HAVE COMPLAINED NUMEROUS TIMES TO THE DEALER, ABOUT GAS SPEWING OUT OF THE FILLER TUBE WHEN I FILL THE TANK. CHRYSLER HAS TOLD ME THAT MY VEHICLE DOES NOT QUALIFY FOR THE SAFETY RECALL BECAUSE IS WAS MANUFACTURED IN JULY OF 2005 AND NOT A 2006 MODEL. THERE ARE ISSUES WITH 2004 AND 2005 DURANGOS AND CHRYSLER NEEDS TO EXPAND THE RECALL TO COVER THESE VEHICLES. HAVING GAS SPEW OUT OF MY TANK IS GOING TO CAUSE A FIRE. THE SEATBELT BUCKLES IN THE 2ND ROW SEATS HAVE BROKEN. THE PLASTIC PART ON THE BUCKLES THAT MAKES THE BELT STAY TIGHT FOR A CAR SEAT HAS CRACKED ON ONE AND TOTALLY BROKEN OFF ON THE OTHER. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE PUTTING MY CHILD IN THE SEAT DUE TO THE BELT NOT TIGHTENING. THE DEALER ASSURED ME THAT THE BELT IS STILL SAFE FOR A CHILD THAT IS NOT IN A CARSEAT, BUT I DO NOT FEEL IT IS SAFE. THE MANUFACTURER ALSO STATED THAT HE COULD TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED AND THEY WOULD PAY FOR THE REPAIR, AS LONG AS HE PAID THE DEDUCTIBLE. THE VEHICLE WILL BE REPAIRED BY THE DEALER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,000.

THE RECALL IS FOR VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM 10/13/2004-11/30/2004. MY VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED ON 12/1/2004, ONE DAY AFTER THE CUT OFF FOR THE RECALL. I CALLED THE COMPANY AND THEY OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE GAS FILLER PIPE AUTOMATIC SHUTOFF HAS NEVER WORKED PROPERLY ON MY 2005 DODGE DURANGO SINCE IT WAS NEW. WHEN THE FUEL TANK IS FULL, THE GAS PUMP SHUTS OFF, BUT THE FUEL WASHES BACK OUT OF THE TANK AND ONTO THE GROUND. THE DEALER CLAIMED IT WAS FIXED IN A RECALL PRIOR TO MY PURCHASE IN 2005 ACCORDING TO THEIR "COMPUTER RECORDS". OBVIOUSLY, FROM MY EXPERIENCE IN FILLING THE TANK, THE "RECALL FIX" DID NOT WORK--OR, WORSE, THE DEALER DID NOT DO THE FIX AS THEY CLAIMED. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE AIS WAS SLOW, SO THEY REPAIRED THE IDLE AND THE AIS CONTROL MOTOR. SHE BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER 5 WEEKS LATER. THE TECHNICIANS DISCOVERED THAT THE MINIMUM AIR STEERING WAS TOO LOW. THEY ADJUSTED THE SIR SETTING AND REPLACED THE IDLE ARM MOTOR. HOWEVER AT RELATIVELY LOW SPEEDS THE VEHICLE WOULD CONTINUE TO STALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19716. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 48000.
