WHEN I DRIVE MY 2005 DODGE DURANGO IT WILL STALL RANDOMLY AND DIE. I LOSE POWER STEERING AN IT IS VERY DANGEROUS FOR ME MY WIFE AN DAUGHTER. IT HAPPENS WHEN I'M AT LOW SPEEDS. OR COME TO A STOP AT IDLE. I NEED HELP WITH THIS ISSUES. I NOTICED THERE ARE SLOT OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ON THIS EXACT SUBJECT. IS THERE ANYTHING THA CAN BE DONE TO FIX THIS ISSUE?
MY DURANGO HAS ONLY 28,000 MI. DROVE ABOUT 2 MI. FOR MY PT AND AN HOUR LATER I COULD NOT GET MY DURANGO STARTED AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. CALLED A TOW COMPANY AND HAD MY CAR TOWED TO A LICENSED MECHANIC. AFTER THE VEHICLE SAT FOR ABOUT 6 HOURS, THE MECHANIC STARTED THE CAR AND SAID HE CAN NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG SO TAKE THE CAR HOME. I WENT ON LINE AND FOUND A WEBSITE WHERE PEOPLE SHARED THEIR EXPERIENCES WITH THEIR 2005 DURANGO AND I AM VERY, VERY AFRAID TO DRIVE MY CAR NOW. THEY WROTE THAT THEY HAVE HAD EXPERIENCES WHEN THE ENGINE WOULD STALL WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD. WHAT IS GOING ON? NO RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM/PHENOMENA?
MY TRUCK HAS 133000 MILES AND STALLED AGAIN TODAY WHILE OPERATING UPHILL AT ABOUT 20MPH. THIS IS ABOUT THE 20TH TIME IN LAST 5-7 YEARS. WHATS DODGE WAITING FOR TO FIX THIS, BLOGS ALL OVER REPORT SAME ISSUE. NEED A FIX ASAP. HAVE OWNED CAR SINCE NEW AT 12 MILES ON ODOMETER.

WHEN PUTTING GAS IN THE VEHICLE IT DOES NOT STOP ONCE FULL IT WILL SPLASH GAS ON THE VEHICLE, PERSON PUTTING THE GAS IN AND WILL CONTINUE TO SPILL ONTO THE PAVEMENT. THIS HAPPENS EVERY TIME YOU PUT GAS IN THE VEHICLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 DODGE DURANGO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED AND WOULD NOT SHUT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 07V092000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM) BUT THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN DUE TO THE INSTRUMENT PANEL FAILURE.
INTERIOR LIGHTS WON'T GO OFF. SMELL BURNING WIRES INSIDE THE VEHICLE.
HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE 4WD ENGAGING ON ITS OWN WHILE VEHICLE SITTING AFTER SHUTOFF AS WELL AS HAS SHIFTED AUTOMATICALLY FROM AWD INTO 4WD WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT 55+MPH...TOTALLY UNSAFE. HAVE SEEN MANY COMPLAINTS FOR THIS SAME ISSUE GOING ON FROM OTHER DODGE OWNERS FOR '04 AND '05 DODGE CARAVANS FOR SAME ISSUE. APPEARS TO BE RELATED TO FAULTY CHINESE MANUFACTURED PART DODGE WAS INSTALLING AND FAULTING OUT CONNECTIONS CAUSING POWER LOAD TO NOT BE SAME POWER LOAD AS ORIGINAL SPEC (EASILY CORRODED WIRING) AND THEN SCREWING UP THE CONNECTION AND FAULTING THE UNIT OUT TO START TO SHIFT ON ITS OWN. MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN IF OCCURRING ON MANY DIFFERENT PERSONAL OVER THE PAST 5 YRS HISTORIES SEEN FOR SAME VEHICLE MODELS. WHEN VEHICLE IS SHUTOFF CAN ALSO HEAR THE 4WD SELECTOR CLICKING / ENGAGING BACK AND FORTH THE 4WD SYSTEM IN / OUT FROM AWD TO 4WD. VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY STUCK IN 4WD LO NOW.

WHILE STOPPED AT SEVERAL TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND CONSTRUCTION WORK ZONES, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO NAPLETON CHRYSLER JEEP DODGE RAM (LOCATED AT 1460 E OSCEOLA PKWY, KISSIMMEE, FL 34744, (855) 437-9197) TO BE DIAGNOSED; HOWEVER, THE MECHANIC WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED OR MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.

BOTH THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR AND THE 2 4 TRANSMISSION SOLENOID CONSTANTLY GO BAD. THE RESULT IS LOSS OF POWER AND/OR ENGINE SHUTS OFF. IN A SCENARIO WHERE THE VEHICLE IS TRAVELING ON A HIGHWAY/ROADWAY AT HIGH SPEED, THIS MAY CAUSE A COLLISION. I HAVE REPLACED THE CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR 4 TIMES IN 6 MONTHS AND THE 2 4 TRANSMISSION SOLENOID TWICE.

I WAS ON MY WAY HOME FROM WORK WHEN I HEARD A LOUD CLICKING NOISE . I ALSO NOTICED THERE ARE A LOT OF PROBLEMS WITH THIS TRUCK . I RECENTLY BOUGHT IT AND I LOOKED ONLINE ALMOST EVERYTHING I SAW WAS BAD . THESE TRUCKS NEED TO BE REBUILT OR REPAIR RIGHT .
VEHICLE STARTED SHOWING AN INTERMITTENT "SVC 4WD" LIGHT AND VEHICLE WOULD SHIFT ITSELF INTO LOW 4WD WHILE MAKING LOW SPEED TURNS. HAD IT CHECKED BY DEALER, WHO SAID CODES SHOWED "UNEQUAL TIRE PRESSURE". TIRES WERE WITHIN 1 PSI OF EACH OTHER. DROVE VEHICLE AGAIN, AND CODES SAID "UNEQUAL TIRE SPEED". DEALER ADVISED WE REPLACE ALL FOUR TIRES, WHICH WE DID. DURING OUR NEXT TRIP (YESTERDAY), THE "SVC 4WD" LIGHT CAME ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES, THEN VEHICLE SUDDENLY LOST ALL FORWARD MOMENTUM WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. VEHICLE'S TRANSFER CASE HAD SHIFTED ITSELF NEUTRAL, LEAVING VEHICLE STRANDED IN HIGHWAY WITH NO SHOULDER. WHILE STARTING THE CAR TO TRY TO TROUBLESHOOT THE PROBLEM, IT SUDDENLY AND WITHOUT WARNING SHIFTED ITSELF INTO LOW 4WD AND LURCHED FORWARD. I HAVE RESEARCHED THE ISSUE ONLINE IN VARIOUS DODGE FORUMS, AND HAVE FOUND DOZENS OF SIMILAR CASES WHERE THERE HAVE BEEN VEHICLES STRANDED IN THE HIGHWAY DUE TO THE SAME PROBLEM. SEVERAL DODGE DEALERS EVIDENTLY HAVE HAD PROBLEMS DIAGNOSING THE PROBLEM, REPLACING ALL POSSIBLE PARTS ONLY TO HAVE THE ISSUE RECUR WITHIN DAYS. THERE ARE OTHERS WHO SAY THEY HAVE FILED COMPLAINTS HERE AND URGE US WHO EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM DEMAND A RECALL. PLEASE INVESTIGATE AND FORCE DODGE TO FIX THIS OBVIOUS SAFETY FLAW THAT COULD EASILY CAUSE A LOSS OF LIFE ACCIDENT.

I RECENTLY PURCHASED MY 2005 DODGE DURANGO AND WHEN I FILL VEHICLE FULL OF FUEL IT ALWAYS SPILLS OUT IT NEVER SHUTS OFF. FUEL SPILLS ALL OVER. I CAN NOT TELL WHEN IT IS ABOUT FULL AND IT SHOULD ALWAYS DETECT WHEN IT IS FULL AND KICK OFF BUT IT JUST KEEPS GOING OUT ON GROUND AND ALL OVER UNTIL I CAN STOP IT. I NOTICED AT ONE TIME THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS SAME ISSUE ON THE 2005 DODGE DURANGO XLT AND WAS AFRAID THIS VEHICLE DID NOT GET THE RECALL FIXED.

THE VEHICLE TRIES TO SHIFT INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE ON ITS OWN WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD. DEPENDING ON SPEED IT IS SOMETIMES SUCCESSFUL CAUSING DIFFICULT STEERING ON DRY PAVEMENT. IT ALSO SOMETIMES SOUNDS LIKE IT IS TRYING TO SHIFT INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS PARKED AND NOT RUNNING; ESPECIALLY RIGHT AFTER UNLOCKING THE DOORS WITH THE KEY FOB.

THIS IS DANGEROUS! PLEASE HELP ME GET THIS RESOLVED BEFORE I CATCH ON FIRE OR SET FIRE TO SOMEONE ELSE NEARBY. WHILE DRIVING MY 2005 DODGE DURANGO LIMITED AT LOW SPEEDS IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD, THE 4WD AUTOMATICLY ENGAGED WITH THE SELECTOR SWITCH STILL IN THE AWD POSITION AND NO INDICATOR LIGHTS ON THE DASH STATING THAT THE 4WD WAS ENGAGED AT ALL. IT MAKE IT VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN THE CORNERS EVEN AT LOW SPEEDS SOMETIMES EVEN BINDS UP ENOUGH TO EVEN STOP THE VEHICLE IF I TURN TOO SHARP. VERY UNSAFE AND IS STARTING TO HAPPEN MORE AND MORE FREQUENTLY. WHEN I PARK IT IN THE GARAGE AND WITH THE KEY OUT AND NO POWER, I HAVE STARTED TO NOTICE YOU CAN HEAR THE 4WD TRYING TO ENGAGE AND DISENGAGE MULTIPLE TIMES WHILE JUST SITTING THERE.

TRANSFER CASE MOTOR ENGAGES BY ITSELF WHILE DRIVING AND WHILE PARKED. 4-LOCK LIGHT FLICKERS ON AND OFF CAN HEAR THE MOTOR TRYING TO ENGAGE. WHILE DRIVING IT WILL ENGAGE AND LOCK UP THE POWER TRAIN. HAVE TO HAVE A PERSON PUSH THE NEUTRAL RESET BUTTON WHILE ROCKING VEHICLE TO FREE. HAVE HAD VEHICLE STOP IN MIDDLE OF INTERSECTION ON A CITY STREET IN FRONT OF ON-COMING TRAFFIC. MOTOR HAS TRIED TO ENGAGE WHILE DRIVING AT 35 MPH. TOLD BY MECHANIC THAT THE TRANSFER CASE COULD EXPLODE IF THE MOTOR TRIES TO ENGAGE WHILE VEHICLE IS MOVING AT HIGH SPEED. FIRST HAPPENED APPROXIMATELY FOUR YEARS AGO AND HAD TO WAIT OVER A YEAR FOR THE PART. HAD TO DISABLE 4WD UNTIL PART ARRIVED. SAME THING IS HAPPENING AGAIN.
I AM EXPERIENCING THE SAME EXACT ISSUES WITH MY 2005 DODGE DURANGO AS OTHER POSTS. THE 4LO AND SVC 4WD WARNING LIGHTS ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL PERIODICALLY FLASH ON AND OFF, AND FREQUENTLY WHEN I SLOW DOWN TO PULL INTO A PARKING SPOT OR DRIVEWAY I HEAR A CLUNKING SOUND AND THE TRANSMISSION ACTUALLY SHIFTS ON ITS OWN INTO 4 WHEEL DRIVE. THE WHEELS WILL LOCK AND WHEN I ACCELERATE IT ACTUALLY JERKS THE CAR AND DRAGS THE TIRES. RECENTLY I HEARD A LOUD THUMP AS IF SOMETHING BROKE AND IT SHIFTED INTO 4WD ON ITS OWN. IN ADDITION, WHEN I SHUT THE CAR OFF IT WILL OCCASIONALLY START CLICKING AS IF ITS LOCKING AND UNLOCKING THE CAR DOORS. THIS WILL CONTINUE FOR 10-15 SECONDS BEFORE STOPPING. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE INTO THE LOCAL DODGE DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES FOR SERVICE BUT THEY CLAIM TO HAVE NOT HEARD OF THE PROBLEM BEFORE AND SEEM BAFFLED AS TO WHAT'S CAUSING IT. CLEARLY THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT BECAUSE OF THE HUNDREDS OF REPORTS I'VE SEEN FROM PEOPLE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES. AFTER WAITING 6 WEEKS FOR AN AFTERMARKET INSTRUMENT PANEL THE DEALER REPLACED IT, BUT THAT MADE ABSOLUTELY NO DIFFERENCE AND I AM STILL EXPERIENCING THE SAME EXACT ISSUES AS BEFORE.

TAKATA INFLATORS-I HAVE REPEATEDLY CONTACTED THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE RECALL & I HAVE BEEN TOLD EACH TIME THE PARTS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM ARE ON BACKORDER & THEY HAVE NO TIME ESTIMATE FOR THE PARTS TO BE AVAILABLE. MY 1ST CALL TO THE DEALER WAS 6/22/2015 & I WAS TOLD IT WOULD BE 3-4 WEEKS FOR THE PARTS TO ARRIVE. I CALLED AGAIN ON 7/24 & WAS TOLD THE PARTS WERE STILL ON BACKORDER & THERE WAS NO TIME ESTIMATE FOR PARTS AVAILABILITY. I CALLED AGAIN TODAY & STILL THE SAME MESSAGE. 6 MONTHS SEEMS A BIT LONG TO WAIT FOR A RECALL ITEM.

WHEN FILLING THE GAS TANK, A LARGE AMOUNT OF FUEL ALWAYS SHOOTS OUT OF THE FILLER NECK AND SPILLS ONTO VEHICLE, GROUND, AND OBJECTS AROUND VEHICLE. ALSO THE VEHICLE DOES NOT COME WITH TPMS, HOWEVER THE TPMS WARNING LIGHT ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL STAYS ON ALL THE TIME. ALSO IF THE REAR LIFT GATE IS OPENED THE CARGO LIGHT INDICATOR ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL STAYS ON UNTIL YOU OPEN AND CLOSE THE LIFT GATE A TOTAL OF TWO TIMES.
THE DURANGO IS FLASHING ON THE DASH EITHER 4LOCK OR 4LO WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. IT WILL SWITCH FROM AWD TO 4LOCK WHEN TURNING. IT RANDOMLY SWITCHES FROM AWD TO EITHER 4LOCK OR 4LO WHILE IDLING AND WHEN NO ONE IS IN THE CAR AND YOU USE THE KEY FOB. IT HAS NOT SWITCH INTO 4LOCK OR 4LO AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED BUT HAS AT SLOW SPEED. VERY CONCERNED THAT I WILL HAPPEN, AS HAVE READ OTHER OWNERS HAVE HAD IT HAPPEN GOING 55 MPH.

AWD WILL CHANGE TO 4 WHEEL LOCK WITHOUT SELECTING IT. HAPPENS INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING, MAKING IT HARD TO MAKE TURNS. I JUST BOUGHT IT USED, WITH NO WARNING FROM SELLER.
IN MY 05 DURANGO, THE 4WD KEEPS CLICKING ON AND OFF RANDOMLY. I COULD BE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY OR JUST TURNED THE CAR OFF. THE ENGINE HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO GO IN DRIVE, REVERSE, ETC. I HAD A MECHANIC LOOK AT THE TRANSMISSION, SPENDING A TON OF UNNECESSARY MONEY WHEN THE WHOLE TIME THE 4WD HAS BEEN STUCK IN NEUTRAL. DODGE KNOWS ABOUT THE PROBLEM, WHY ISN'T THERE A RECALL? APPARENTLY THE SWITCHING INTO 4LO AT HIGH SPEEDS CAN CAUSE SERIOUS DAMAGES -- EVEN DEATH TO ME OR MY CHILDREN OR OTHER INNOCENT PEOPLE ON THE HIGHWAY. WHAT AM I SUPPOSED TO DO????
OPENED THE DRIVERS DOOR AFTER A STORM AND OBSERVED STANDING WATER IN THE DRIVERS SIDE FLOORBOARD. TRIED TO START BUT THE BATTERY WAS DEAD. (DAILY DRIVER W BATTERY @ 1YR OLD). PLACED BATTERY ON A CHARGER AND WAS ABLE TO START MOTOR. ENGINE WAS REVING BETWEEN IDLE AND 1500 RPM RAPIDLY AND WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THROTTLE INPUTS. INSTRUMENT CLUSTER LIGHTS ALL ON AND NAVIGATION DISPLAY WAS ON BUT NOT LEGIBLE. LOOKED FOR THE SOURCE OF THE WATER, AND IT APPEARS TO BE COMING FROM AROUND THE DRIVERS SIDE FRONT PILLAR AREA AND LEAKING DOWN THE INSIDE KICK PANEL.

ON MY VEHICLE THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE WILL AUTOMATICALLY ENGAGE WHILE I AM DRIVING. IT HAS SWITCHED INTO 4LO A FEW TIMES WHICH ALMOST CAUSED A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THERE IS ALSO A CLICKING NOISE THAT SOUNDS LIKE THE GEARS ARE SWITCHING BACK AND FORTH, WHEN I USE THE REMOTE LOCK/UNLOCK ON THE KEY FOB. THE DODGE DEALERSHIP DID NOT KNOW WHY IT WAS HAPPENING AND SAID MAYBE I SHOULD REPLACE THE TRANSFER CASE BUT THEY DID NOT KNOW FOR SURE IF THAT WOULD DO ANYTHING. SO I LOST OVER $100 AND GOT NOTHING OUT OF IT. I TOOK IT TO MY MECHANIC WHO SAID THAT UNPLUGGING AT THE TRANSFER CASE WOULD STOP THE ISSUE BUT THE 4 LO AND OTHER SWITCHES WOULD NOT WORK AND THE SERVICE 4X4 LIGHT WOULD REMAIN ON. SINCE I HAVE TO DRIVE I HAD HIM DO THIS AND IT DID FIX THE PROBLEM BUT NOW I DON'T HAVE ANY 4 WHEEL DRIVE WHICH REALLY SUCKS LIVING IN UTAH WITH ALL THE SNOW. WHILE DRIVING AT VARIABLE SPEEDS MY 2005 DODGE DURANGO SLT 5.7L TRUCK, WITHOUT WARNING, WILL SHUT-OFF MAKING IT HARD TO STOP & STEER TO SAFETY. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES BUT THE MOST RECENT & SEVERE TIME WAS YESTERDAY, I WAS AT A SPEED OF 55 MPH ON 695 WHEN MY DURANGO SHUT-OFF WITHOUT WARNING. I WAS ABLE TO PULL ONTO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT CAUSING A ACCIDENT. MY DODGE WAS ABLE TO RESTART WITHOUT WARNING LIGHTS FLASHING OR INDICATION BUT WILL RANDOMLY SHUT-OFF WITHOUT WARNING AT LEAST 4-6 TIMES A WEEK WHILE DRIVING.

I WAS ABLE TO START IT BACK UP BUT NOW I CAN'T DRIVE THIS CAR DUE TO FEAR OF IT DOING THIS AGAIN.

I UNDERSTAND FROM TALKING TO THE LOCAL DEALER, CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE AND MANY COMMENTS ON THE INTERNET THAT CHRYSLER RECALLED CERTAIN 2005 DURANGO'S MADE IN SPECIFIC PLANTS WITH SPECIFIC PARTS. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER AND BY CHRYSLER CUSTOMER SERVICE THAT OUR DURANGO WAS NOT RECALLED. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY ONLY CERTAIN VEHICLES WERE RECALLED WHEN OTHERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE WERE NOT RECALLED. THIS IS A REAL SAFETY CONCERN FOR US. GASOLINE GETS ON US AND OUR CLOTHES OUR SKIN AND ON THE GROUND. COULD START FIRE IF A SPARK WAS NEARBY. A NEW TANK COST $1300 PLUS LABOR WHICH WE CAN'T AFFORD. PLEASE HELP US STAY SAFE.
