FULLY MARKED POLICE PATROL VEHICLE LOST HYDRAULIC BRAKES AND BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. ALL HAVE BUILD DATES BETWEEN 4/19/2012 AND 6/19/2012.

I ATTEMPTED TO SLOW THE VEHICLE, PREPARING TO STOP. I WAS TRAVELING BETWEEN 65/70 MPH. WHEN PRESSING ON THE BREAKS THE VEHICLE DID NOT SLOW DOWN. I PUMPED THE BREAKS. THE CARS IN FRONT OF ME WHERE AT A STOP AND GETTING CLOSER VERY QUICKLY. I PUSHED AS HARD AS I COULD ON THE BREAK AND THEN TRIED TO PUSH ON THE EMERGENCY BREAK LOCATED ON THE FLOOR. IT ONLY KICKED BACK. SECONDS LATER I HAD A DIRECT IMPACT WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. AIRBAG DEPLOYED! THERE ARE NO SKID MARKS ON THE ROAD! THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP!!!

2013 FORD EXPLORER. CONSUMER WRITES SEEKING REIMBURSEMENT FOR REAR BRAKE REPLACEMENT. *LD CONSUMER SENT ADDITIONAL CORRESPONDENCE. *LD THE CONSUMER STATED THE BRAKES, CALIPERS, ROTORS, AND PADS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. *JS
REAR BRAKE CALIPERS, ROTORS AND PADS WERE FROZEN AND RUINED. CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. THE INTERNET MAKES CLEAR THAT MANY OTHER EXPLORER OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. A RECALL IS REQUIRED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY BECAUSE IT COULD NOT MOVE WITH FROZEN REAR BRAKES.
THIS MAKE/MODEL/YEAR HAS A KNOWN FACTORY DEFECT THAT CAUSED THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD TO BLOW EXHAUST DIRECTLY INTO THE CABIN. I HAD TO FORCE THE DEALER TO FIX THIS, AS THEY ARGUED EXHAUST IS NOT DANGEROUS. I HAVE ATTACHED THE INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO FIX THIS, FROM THE FACTORY, PROVING IT WAS A KNOWN SERIOUS ISSUE, NOT DISCLOSED TO ME. THE DEALERSHIP DID A HORRIBLE JOB IN THE "REPAIR" - HAVING BROKEN OTHER PARTS OF THE CAR IN THE PROCESS. AFTER THEY "REPAIRED" THE CAR, IT BEGAN RANDOMLY SHUDDERING, WHILE IDLING. I HAVE ATTACHED A VIDEO OF IT. YOU WILL NEED TO TURN UP THE VOLUME TO THE MAX, AS YOUTUBE COMPRESSED THE SOUND TERRIBLY. I HAVE ONE WITNESS TO THIS HAPPENING TWICE. I HAVE HAD MY EXPLORER AT THE DEALERSHIP TWICE SINCE I PURCHASED IT REGARDS THE FRONT DRIVE SIDE BRAKES. THEY PUT ON A NEW ROTOR AND BRAKE. ISSUE IS STILL ON GOING. STILL MAKING A BAD SOUND ON THAT SIDE. ISSUE 2: WHEN EVER I ACCELERATE TO PASS OTHER CAR OR TO MERGE ONTO THE INTERSTATE THE EXHAUST SMELL WITHIN THE VEHICLE IS HORRIBLE. MY CHILDREN AND I HAVE BEEN SUFFERING FROM HORRIBLE HEADACHES. I HAVE A FEELING WE ARE BREATHING IN CARBON MONOXIDE. I WILL BE TAKING IT TO THE DEALER TOMORROW.
I HAD A COMPLETE SERVICE PERFORMED ON MY REAR BRAKES DUE TO THEM DRAGGING AND BEING COMPLETELY WORN IN JUNE/2016, LESS THAN THREE MONTHS LATER THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR BREAK IS DRAGGING AGAIN AND OVERHEATING. SINCE IT'S BEEN LESS THAN THREE MONTHS, I WOULD IMAGINE THAT CORROSION IS NOT THE ISSUE.

THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR BRAKE PADS WERE DAMAGED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 24,000.
REAR BRAKES SEIZED SIMULTANEOUSLY ON DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE. DEALERSHIP STATED CORROSION WAS THE ISSUE. VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED 3 MONTHS PRIOR WITH NO MENTION OF CORROSION. SEIZURE CAUSED FAILURE OF CALIPERS, PADS, ROTORS, AND LININGS ON BOTH SIDES. REPLACEMENT WAS PAID OUT OF POCKET, NOT COVERED BY ESP AND NOT BACKED UP BY PREMIUM MAINTENANCE PLAN.
MY 2013 EXPLORER HAS 23190 MILES AND WAS BOUGHT NEW AND HAS BEEN SERVICED AT THE DEALER ACCORDING TO FORD'S SERVICE PLAN SINCE NEW. A FEW DAYS AGO I NOTICED A GRINDING NOISE AND BURNING SMELL FROM THE REAR OF MY EXPLORER.THE DEALER TOLD ME THAT MY DRIVERS SIDE REAR CALIPER HAD SEIZED UP AND I NEEDED NEW REAR BRAKES. HE SAID THAT THIS WAS DUE TO ROAD SALT, WATER AND DEBRIS CONTAMINATING THE REAR BRAKES. HE ALSO TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS NOT WARRANTY COVERED AND MY COST WAS $389.84. I'VE READ IN NUMEROUS FORUMS THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM ON MOST EXPLORERS LIKE MINE. I FEEL THAT THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE IF IT HAPPENED AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. LUCKILY MINE HAPPENED WHEN I WAS PARKING MY EXPLORER. THIS SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER AN INSPECTION REPLACEMENT RECALL.

AT ABOUT 42,000 MILES LEFT REAR BRAKE LOCKED UP WHILE DRIVING. AT ABOUT 48,000 MILES RIGHT REAR BRAKE STARTED DRAGGING. I REPLACED ROTORS, PADS AND CALIPERS IN BOTH CASES. I CHECKED SLIDES ON BOTH AND THEY ARE FREE TO TRAVEL. IN BOTH CASES THE CALIPER IS STUCK. I SAVED THE CALIPER FROM THE LATER. THIS IS STILL AN OEM PART ONLY SO I REPLACED WITH FORD PART. WHEN TALKING TO LOCAL DEALERS TECHS THEY SAY THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM THEY ARE SEEING IN THIS VEHICLE. THE PART NUMBER OF THE CALIPER HAS CHANGED FROM THE ORIGINAL NUMBER ACCORDING TO THE PARTS TECH, HE CLAIMED THAT THIS USUALLY INDICATES A CHANGE IN A DESIGN FOR A PROBLEM.
