Issue: Abrupt engine shutoff while driving at high speed. Occurance: While driving on an interstate highway at approximately 70MPH in far left lane, the vehicle abruptly shutoff. With no power, the power steering also did not function, however, had enough speed to safely pull onto the grass median. It appears the problem is with a known issue to Ford, which is the fuse for the fuel pump (#27 in the engine compartment PDB) will melt and cause either intermittent or complete failure even while driving at high speeds. Given the conditions I was extremely lucky to have been able to pull off, and then back on to the roadway safely. Ford has a fix available Fuel Pump Jumper Harness Kit. Kit Terminal Part #: WT56872 (14293) as a result of this problem, yet it seems there is no active recall for this to be installed. WHY??? This could have resulted in multiple deaths and injuries for a single incident - I think that's unacceptable and hope NHTSA will concur and compel a recall to fix this issue.
The contact owns a 2010 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle made an abnormal noise. The contact pulled over, and upon inspection, he noticed that the fuel tank straps were corroded, causing the fuel tank to detach. Additionally, there was a hole in the fuel tank, and fuel was leaking onto the ground. The vehicle was towed to the residence and was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 139,461.
I purchased a 2010 f-150 new in July 2010. Yesterday I noticed a fuel leak from the gas tank.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD F-150. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING, THE VEHICLE SHUT OFF WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED TO THE SIDE AND LATER RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS HIGH RESISTANCE FROM THE WIRE THAT CONNECTED TO FUEL PUMP. THE TECHNICIAN ALSO DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A SIGN OF EXCESSIVE HEAT WHICH CAUSED THE FUSE LOCATION NUMBER 27 TO MELT. THE CONTACT REFERENCED A TSB NUMBER: 15-0137. THE CONTACT CALLED THE PENSKE FORD, LOCATED AT: 8970 LA MESA BLVD, LA MESA, CA 91942, (619)350-8731 AND WAS REFERRED TO THE MANUFACTURER, HOWEVER, THE NUMBER WAS NOT THE RIGHT NUMBER FOR THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 105,000.
SMELLED GASOLINE ODOR INSIDE VEHICLE AFTER CRANKING ON A COLD DAY. I DROVE IT FOR SEVERAL MILES. I PARKED IT. I WAS IN BUILDING FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES. WHEN I CAME OUT, I SMELLED GAS OUTSIDE VEHICLE. AFTER LEAVING I THEN TOOK VEHICLE TO CROSSROADS FORD QUICKLANE IN CARY NC. THEY FOUND THE PLASTIC FUEL LINE HAD SPLIT LENGHTWISE ON TOP OF FUEL TANK. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS SPRAYING GAS. PART WAS APPARANTLY DEFECTIVE. I AM SURE IT COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR FIRE OR EXPLOSION BECAUSE OF BEING NOT FAR FROM EXHAUST PIPE. PART REPLACED WAS 9L3Z-9S278-B. I AM WONDERING IF THERE HAVE BEEN UNEXPLAINED FIRES OR EXPLOSIONS BECAUSE OF THIS. REPAIR COST WAS $569.89
THE FPDM WAS GOING BAD. THE TRUCK WOULD SHUT OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING. TWICE IT DIED WHILE TURNING AND I COULDN'T STEER. ONCE ALMOST HAD ME IN THE BACK OF A PARKED CAR. THIS COST ME OVER 300 DOLLARS TO FIX. IT'S ONLY GOING BACD BECAUSE THE ARE MOUNTED TO THE STEEL GRAM AND THE ALUMINUM BACKING ON THE FPDM IS PITTING AND WATER IS GETTING IN. THIS PROBLEM ALSO MADE IT DIFFICULT TO START, AND MESSED WITH MY MPG.
FUSE BLOCK MELTING VEHICLE STARTED OK. AFTER TRAVELING APPROX. 10 MINUTES I STOPPED TURNED VEHICLE OFF. UPON RETURNING TO VEHICLE IT FAILED TO START. I THEN HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO A FORD DEALER. FORD DEALERS DIAGNOSED IT NEEDED A FUSE RELOCATION KIT TSB 15-0137 PARTS AND LABOR APPROX. $350.00
FUSE 27 HAD FAILED TURNING OFF THE VEHICLE. REFER TO TSB NO. 15-0137 BUT FORD HAS NOT RECALLED
FORD F-150 WILL NOT START INTERMITTENTLY. THE ENGINE CRANKS BUT WILL NOT START. THE ISSUE HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED WITH FUSE #27 OVER HEATING BUT NOT BLOWING. FUSE #27 IS THE FUSE FOR THE FUEL PUMP DIVER MODULE. THE ENGINE HAS NOT DIED ON ME WHILE IN MOTION THOUGH THERE ARE MULTIPLE OTHER INSTANCES OF INDIVIDUALS WHO HAVE HAD THEIR VEHICLE DIE ON THEM. FORD HAS ISSUED A TSB FOR 2009-2014 F-150S, TSB 15-0137 TO RELOCATE THE FUSE. I RECOMMEND NHTSA ORDER FORD TO RECALL OF ALL TRUCKS POSSIBLY AFFECTED SO THIS DOES NOT CREATE AN ACCIDENT IN THE FUTURE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FORD F-150. AFTER FILLING UP THE VEHICLE WITH FUEL, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO RESTART. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY 45 MINUTES BEFORE FINALLY SUCCEEDING. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SAME FAILURE OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY SIX OTHER TIMES AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS REFUELED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE 20 AMPS FUEL RELAY FUSE AND THE HIGH POWER RELAY WERE DAMAGED AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
1. I AM NOT ALONE IN A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE FUEL CANISTER BEING A PROBLEM ON THE F150- I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS TWICE NOW- OTHERS IN THE FORUM ARE DOING THE SAME. THE VAPOR CANISTER IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT BECOMES FAULTY AND THE ENGINES STALL OR RUNS ROUGH- WHEN IT STALLS, IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER. I GREW UP WITHOUT POWER STEERING- 97$ OUT OF POCKET- DEALER COULDN'T FIGURE IT OUT- HAD ANOTHER MECHANIC DIAGNOSE AND REPAIR. IT'S A SIMPLE FIX- YET CAN BE DANGEROUS IF SOMEONE WITH STRONG ARM STRENGTH CANNOT TURN THE VEHICLE OR USE THE BREAKS. THIS HAS TO BE LOOKED AT.! I SHOULD HAVE BEEN REIMBURSED! WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO GET KILLED IS INEXCUSABLE- HAPPENED WITH JUST 35K MILES ON TRUCK. 2. AFTER REFUELING VEHICLE WILL BE HARD TO START, AFTER REPEATED ATTEMPTS AND USING GAS PEDAL TO FORCE AN IDLE IT WILL START, PROBLEM ONLY OCCURS AGAIN AFTER REFUELING. THIS IS COUPLED WITH SUDDEN ENGINE CUT OFF AT LOW SPEEDS. DEALER IS CLUELESS AS TO A FIX FOR EITHER. I CONSIDER THE SUDDEN SHUT OFF TO BE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE, PARTICULARLY DRIVING IN MOUNTAINS AS I DO.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 200,000.
WHEN TRUCK HAS 1/4 OR LESS FUEL IN THE FUEL TANK IT STALLS AND THERE IS LOST POWER. MOSTLY HAPPENS WHEN COMING TO A STOP AND WHEN I MAKE A TURN AFTER TAKING MY FOOT FROM ACCELERATOR TO BRAKE . THIS IS DANGEROUS BECAUSE ALL BRAKING AND STEERING IS LOST .WHILE LOOKING ON THE WEB THERE WERE MANY COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS .

OUR 2010 FORD F-150 PLATINUM TRUCK CAUGHT FIRE WHILE MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING HE HAD TO JUMP OUT OF THE CAR TO SURVIVE. IT LOOKS LIKE THE GAS TANK CAUGHT ON FIRE AND THE ENTIRE TRUCK WAS ENGULFED IN FLAMES AND COMPLETELY BURNED UP IN A FEW SECONDS. BOUGHT A USED 2010 F-150 SUPERCREW 4X4 5.4L 3V ENGINE WITH 38,600 MILES ON IT, FIRST WEEK IT DROVE FINE. BUT THEN. WHILE DRIVING FOR THE FIRST TIME ON THE DAY OF THE INCIDENT I HAD TRAVELED ABOUT 3 MILES WHEN I HEARD A TONE AND SAW THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON. I IMMEDIATELY APPLIED THE BRAKES AS I WAS APPROACHING A RED LIGHT AND AS THE TRUCK SLOWED I SAW A LOW OIL PRESSURE WARNING COME UP ON THE DIGITAL MESSAGE CENTER AND THE ENGINE STALLED. I LOST BRAKE PRESSURE AND NEARLY RAN THE RED LIGHT. I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF AND RESTARTED THE TRUCK. I DROVE TO THE DEALER IMMEDIATELY (SOUTHWEST FORD OF GREENVILLE, TX) THEY TROUBLESHOOT THE PROBLEM DOWN TO A FAULTY FUEL PURGE VALVE. THIS CAUSED A SECONDARY ISSUE DUE TO AN EXCESS VACUUM BUILD UP IN THE TANK. THE TANK WAS DEFORMED DESTROYING THE FUEL PUMP AND FUEL QTY SENDING UNIT. THE REPAIR COST WAS ABOUT 1200 DOLLARS. THE DEALERSHIP WAS EXCELLENT AT GIVING ME THE DETAILED INFORMATION, AND THEY PAID FOR MY RENTAL. *TR
