NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2014 Ford F-150. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
They have a faulty master cylinder on the brakes causing brake issues. I was driving down state road 80 after hurricane Ian and a car slammed on its brakes in front of me because a vehicle lost a load off of their tailgate. I slammed on my brakes but I didn't break very well. It was very squishy into the floor and I relied on distance. The brakes gave a little assistance
My service dealer told me that my lug nuts are swelling and should be replaced.
While traveling at varying rates of speed, the transmission will shift on its own from 6th gear down to 2nd gear. This issue locks up the back tires while traveling at a high rate of speed and therefore is a huge safety issue. Especially since this happened with my children and wife in the vehicle. This issue has also started to cause multiple other features to not work including the speedometer from time to time. The check engine light does not resister this as a problem and it took Ford lots of convincing of what the actual problem was. There are no warning as to when the issue happens. It is intermittent and seems to have a hard time figuring out what gear the transmission should be in based on the speed of travel. This is a HUGE safety issue as I can be driving a high rate of speed and it downshifts without warning or I can be at a stop light and lose all power to the transmission and the vehicle will not move. Only the rpm’s will increase but the vehicle does not seem to have power from the power train system. It has been taken to Ford several months ago. They diagnosed the issue. There was a recall for this exact issue for models 2010-2013. My vehicle was 1 month out of recall. This is an issue seeing as it is the same exact problem the previous models are having but the recall only extended to models up to 2013. The dealership has given me the run around and not returned my calls for service for several months.
I only used my VIN to get this far. The issue that I have concerns a very important safety feature that I have yet to see on any vehicle. With more and more vehicles being produced with automatic braking systems, I am wondering why the automakers don't have a specific light option on the rear of the vehicle that illuminates when the ABS is activated. There are still millions of vehicles on the road that don't have ABS. This feature would inform following drivers the difference between slowing down and quickly stopping. It could be placed in the middle of the rear brake light that is in the upper middle of the rear window. So, you are probably wondering why I am bringing this to your attention. That is because I have wasted 30k of my own money on 2 different marketing firms trying to get my patent noticed, with no luck. The patent number is 9,643,535 B1. Check it out. I dare you.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted into 1st and 2nd gear while the RPM's fluctuated between 4,000 and 6,000. The transmission warning light was illuminated. Additionally, the vehicle hesitated to accelerate, and the speedometer was inoperable. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the dealer, where it was diagnosed with diagnostic trouble code: P0720 (Output Speed Sensor Circuit) and that the speed sensor needed to be replaced; however, the replacement part was on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V433000 (Power Train) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 86,000.
I was travelling down the highway at near 60 mph and without warning the truck shuttered and shifted to first gear. This nearly started and chain reaction crash with myself and 3 other vehicles as I was nearly rear ended, I also could've easily lost control. Had I been towing my travel trailer at the time this would have caused a major accident without question. 2 codes were thrown at this time P0720 and P0722, this comes back to a Lead Frame issue with the transmission. I took the truck to my local dealer and they stated they couldn't get the issue to happen again and that there was nothing wrong as they could tell because the codes do not store. The only symptom prior to was all the went blank just before the truck shuttered and went to first gear.
Unable to unlock/lock driver side door with key fob and/or lock switch inside. Action taken at dealership: Dealership pulled door pane and found no power at latch connector. Pulled connector out from between door and body, found power wire broken, along with two other broken wires, yellow and other wire chaffed to copper wire inside. Repaired wiring that is hidden and reassembled connector/panel. Possible electrical short inside dust boot, which could cause further damage and/or electrical damage.
On 3 separate occasions I've been going 55-65 mph on the highway and the truck will downshift abruptly and harshly jerking the truck at high speeds. Everything on the instrument panel stops working except for RPMs and the truck is stuck in 5th gear. I get a P0720 code. This is identical to Customer Satisfaction Program 19N01. The reason for my complaint is that my vehicle is not covered. My truck is 6 days outside the build date in the program but has the exact same issue.

Hello - My 2014 F150 experiencing this issue, but FORD says my VIN is not on the recall list. Truck pulled brake fluid into the engine from faulty brake booster / master, lost all brakes, lots of smoke, brake fluid reservoir empty. Brake Master Cylinder May Leak into Booster NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V332 A loss of brake fluid may result in a change in brake pedal travel and feel, increased pedal effort and reduced front brake function, possibly requiring greater effort and distance to stop the vehicle. These conditions can increase the risk of a crash.
https://thedriveradviser.com/ford-f150-fuel-pump-problems-you-should-know/ https://www.carproblemzoo.com/ford/f-150/2014/other-fuel-system-problems.php Was traveling in passing lane, engine quits. Coasted to off ramp parked on shoulder under bridge. Need a tow to Ford Dealership 30 min away. AAA, did not get a tow, a nice Samaritan called the police to which we had to pay out of pocket for a tow which showed up in 10 minutes. (sent receipt for tow to AAA reimbursement 30 - 60 days). Dealership indicated this was in the mechanic notes, known problem for this FORD 150 ENGINE. Found in above url's Describing everything to a t of what the mechanics did to fix it. Would like to be reimbursed for a known issue of F150 Fuel Pump fix.
Vehicle was repaired under recall Ford Safety Recall 16S24, due to failing brake master cylinder which was leading to total brake failure. The subject vehicle (VIN 1FTFW1CT6EFB00788) was taken into a Ford Service center to perform the recall repairs in Mar 2017. Ford replaced the mater cylinder at the time under the recall. Recently (10/13/2022) the vehicle experienced complete brake failure while driving with all the same symptoms described in the original Ford Safety Recall 16S24. Audible chime with full screen screen message on the dash cluster warning of brake issues. The vehicle coasted to a stop after taking appropriate actions (downshift and e-brake) to come to a stop without crashing or injuries. The vehicle was towed to a Ford Service center for diagnoses. Ford diagnoses was rear seal failure of the master cylinder which allowed all the brake fluid from the reservoir to leak into the brake booster, leading to brake failure. This is the exact scenario described in Ford Safety Recall 16S24. Neither the Ford Service Center or Ford Corporate Customer service (Ford Case # CAS 39130043) will acknowledge repairs as they indicated that the recall is no longer applicable to my vehicle. I don't know if Ford used the same suspect master cylinder P/N to execute the repair, however it seems the issue described in the original recall is still an issue even after recall repairs are performed. At this point, Ford is charging me for the repairs to fix the issue, however the greater concern is that people driving the vehicle in the recall after getting this recall completed might be at risk of crash and injury. Also learning online that I am not unique with the issue described above. Please let me know if there is any additional information such as the latest Ford diagnoses report or documentation is needed to help further escalate this complaint.

Ford defrauded the U.S. Government by knowingly installing defectively-engineered parts in my truck as part of a recall and then claiming the issue was repaired. Ford obviously had so many catastrophic brake system failures it necessitated a federal recall. However, Ford admitted they never redesigned the faulty parts to mitigate the problem from happening again. This it tantamount to providing a liver transplant patient with a liver from a chronic alcoholic. Ford absolutely knew the affected parts were defectively-designed and/or defectively manufactured, yet chose to put those exact same parts back in the truck and then lie to the federal government that said parts fixed the problem. All Ford achieved was kicking the can down the road. Not surprisingly, my brake system catastrophically failed AGAIN after Ford "fixed it" during the recall. I guarantee there are other owners out there who have experienced the same problem. Ford MUST be investigated for fraud and held accountable. When I contacted Ford about the problem, their customer service supervisor said they refuse to cover the cost of the repair because it had been more than a year since parts THEY KNEW were defective were installed. Even Ford's executive team refuses to acknowledge the immorality in this situation, and has also expressly refused to reimburse me. They said it doesn't matter if I plowed into a bunch of kids, they are not in any way responsible for putting known defective parts back in my truck. Surely this is not acceptable to NHTSA, as your agency exists precisely to PREVENT this sort of corrupt behavior by automakers. FORD LIED TO YOUR OFFICE. Will that behavior be excused, or will it be investigated and prosecuted? If someone slams into a Girl Scout parade and kills a bunch of children because their supposedly "fixed" brakes failed, will your office be satisfied it did everything it could to prevent that, knowing Ford defrauded you?

advanced warning track light comes on and turn sigal blinkers dont work and advanced trac dosnt work
The problem is, while driving at normal highway speed the transmission periodically down shifts causing severe loss of speed, with rear wheels skidding with absolutely no prior warning. Truck has been diagnosed at a Ford dealer, the tech stated it was the molded frame lead in the transmission. Thank You.
MY 2014 F 150 5.0 has the 6 speed auto trans. transmission will downshift while running highway speeds or speed over 50 mph. On 09/13/2022 the rear wheeI's locked up for a brief moment causing the rear of the truck to fishtail while I was running 70 mph on the highway. I was able to control the truck and was able to pull off to the side of the road safely this time. turned the truck off and let it reset for a few minutes and it was fine. the second time this happened I was on my way to drop my kids off at the babysitter so I can go to work and it done it again only this time the wheels didn't lock up and it downshifted from 6th to 2nd. Once again i pull over and shut the truck off and let it reset for a little while and it was fine. I am a single father of 5 young kids and this has happened twice in the last 2 weeks with them in the vehicle, this is our only means of transportation. hopefully ford gets this taken care of.
Timing cover seal is leaking oil onto exhaust pipe causing the engine to smoke.
Catastrophic brake failure. Recal 16S24 was completed on this truck, but the "repair" failed. Either the same defective parts were put back in or new but still defectively-designed parts were installed. Current symptoms are identical to the text in the recall. Pedal goes to the floor, large quantities of brake fluid are pumped out of the master cylinder reservoir, little to no observable leaking of brake fluid is observed, so per the recall fluid is being pumped into the vacuum booster. Ford refuses to address the problem. Their official policy is no recall will be repaired more than once even if the supposed "repair" also catastrophically fails. Their goal appears to be to make the "repair" last just barely longer than 1 year so they can deny coverage thereafter and make the customer deal with the repeated failure. Failure was instantaneous in that the truck was just sitting in the driveway. Brakes were fine the night before, but the next day when I went to drive it the pedal went to the floor and the brake fluid reservoir was essentiall empty. Had I been driving or towing a trailer this could easily have resulted in multiple fatalities. Ford was adamant that subsequent failures are not their responsibility.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. The contact stated while driving 40 MPH and approaching a stop light, the contact stated that he had to press the brake pedal to the floorboard for the vehicle to come to a complete stop. The contact stated that he checked underneath the hood and noticed that the steering column had rubbed against the brake line, causing a brake fluid leak. The dealer was contacted however, the contact had not received a response. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 88,427.
Took my 2014 F-150 in for an oil change on 09/09/2022 at Brondes Ford in Maumee Ohio, in the time spent there waiting for the vehicle to be done a representative came out to tell me that they were unable to rotate my tires do to swelling of the [lug nuts] and said it would cost me $120.00 From what I read online this is a big problem with Ford vehicle's.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to the dealer and the contact was informed that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V709000 (Exterior Lighting, Service Brakes, Hydraulic) however, the VIN was not included. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and filed a case. The approximate failure mileage was 124,000.
The driver side exhaust manifold it warped can hear chirping noise and leaking exhaust fumes into cab on start up
The master cylinder failed when brake pedal was pressed. A complete total brake failure happened and i had no braking power but the parking brake, Had i entered into the main traffic and applied my brakes nothing would happen and i probably would have had an accident. I didn't have time to look for any warning lites as i was focused on beong able to stop the truck. As for my safety and others it could have been bad if not me being able to stop the truck.
Bought new tires. Tire center had issues with the two piece lug nut systems that came installed from factory. They were swollen and had moisture in them. Had to have replacement lug nuts installed.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford F-150. The contact stated that while driving approximately 65-70 MPH, the speedometer started glitching, and the transmission shifter downshifted from 6th to 2nd gear. The engine then red lined and the contact started losing control of the vehicle. The contact pulled over to the side of the roadway and shifted into park(P) and waited for the vehicle to regain proper functionality. The contact stated that there was no warning light illuminated. There were no warning lights. The failure occurred fiver times within one month. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer who diagnosed that the leadframe needed to be replaced. The vehicle had not been repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The approximate failure mileage was 125,000.
2014 F150 Lariat owned since it was new. Windshield wipers failed to come on during Florida thunderstorm while driving on I-10 Westbound from Jacksonville Florida. Was totally unable to see out of the windshield and had to pull over until the rainstorm subsided. Checked all relevant fuses and relays and wiper switch. Nothing so far has been able to fix this Safety Defect. Ford knows the part is defective because the Windshield wiper motor is not available from Ford or any dealer, and there is no expectation by the dealer than anything will ever be available to fix this Safety Defect.
OK, the first problem would be that there was a fuse, apparently, that was engineered too small and eventually would burn up, making a bad connection, which would. all of a sudden shut your engine off. Mel, I was at highway speed, doing 6570 miles an hour, and all of a sudden my engine just cut right out. no power steering, no nothing. just shut right off wouldn't exactly call that a safe situation. Poor engineering second issue would be the fact that you have obvious engineering problems with the fact that they're putting carbon based steel parts or studs in the exhaust manifold that are obviously just going to rot away and it costs thousands to have that problem taken care of. Obviously you don't put that type of steel in an aluminum product because it's not going to last. It's everyone. Everyone knows this. So that's about about it. It's enough to **** **** the Pope. And I think you would have to say that it's a pretty it's a pretty important safety issue. It doesn't matter to me whether or not you know, it was within a warranty. or not. It's an obvious engineering issue or they're just they just don't care. It's the cheapest way to go so they don't give a **** They know it won't happen under warranty. So why worry about it? And that's about it, man. Don't count on me. Everybody in afford again.
While driving a freeway speed (80 MPH) my vehicle suddenly down shifted without cause. The vehicle had shifted from 6th gear down to 3rd gear while driving at 80 MPH nearly causing an accident. This similar random downshifting occurred several more times before I was able to take my vehicle to my local Ford dealership. The Ford technician diagnosed the issue from the computer logs as a code P0722, Output Speed shaft Sensor fault. The part which failed is on national back order due to the part being on a safety recall for some vehicles. My vehicle is not part of the current safety recall. The Ford dealer will not allow me to drive my vehicle until they have the part to repair it. They said it is not safe to drive with the failing sensor.
While driving, the Power steering locks when “power steering assistance default “on t the displays panel not giving any warning.
The brakes stopped working and I hit my office trailer this morning and almost one of the workers on the jobsite. I didn't do any damage to the trailer or the body of my truck due to the low speed I was traveling. I have been working on cars my whole life and although I am not a certified auto mechanic I am 100% positive that the fluid from the master cylinder has leaked into the booster. Before I arrived to my jobsite the Brake light came on due to the brake fluid reservoir being empty. There is already a recall for this very dangerous failure and it should be fords responsibility to make my truck safe just like others with the Same Exact Make, Models, Years and issues.

Brake warning light came on and brake pedal went further down toward floorboard. Drove cautiously to auto parts store for brake fluid. Thankfully I wasn’t driving at higher speeds on a major highway. Filled empty reservoir and made it to independent auto repair shop about 3 miles away. Reservoir empty again. Mechanic says brake master cylinder is leaking brake fluid into the brake booster. Informed me of safety recall 16S24, but my VIN was not included. Same make, model, engine size and manufacturing plant as recall. Called local Ford dealership and they would not fix for free, because VIN not included. Repair cost me $1395.54! I do not understand why my truck is not covered under the recall and request a further investigation as to why Ford is not responsible for the reimbursement of the failed safety components.
Brakes failed suddenly. Thankfully in a parking lot but 10 minutes earlier I was going 65 down the highway. Had it towed to mechanic. Brake master cylinder failure. Requires $1200 repair to replace brake master cylinder and brake booster. No open recalls shown. Very unsafe.
I have a 2014 Ford F150 tremor eco-boost. The vehicle has 104,000 miles on it. For the past couple of weeks I’ve been noticing the vehicle will randomly feel like it’s losing power in the RPMs will oscillate for a few seconds and then the vehicle feels like it drops into gear. I wasn’t sure what was going on I had no trouble codes. Finally one day I started driving I got up to about 50 miles an hour and I noticed the RPM started oscillating little and I also noticed that at the same time it was shifting from six gear to fifth gear back-and-forth and then suddenly the vehicle dropped in the first gear the rear tires locked up and almost lost control of the vehicle. Fortunately no one was behind me. This is a very dangerous condition. I called the Ford dealer and I have an appointment to bring the vehicle in i’m not sure how successful that will be since I don’t have a trouble code and the vehicle does this randomly. It will be a long time before I trust this truck again if ever.
I was driving in town. Suddenly the "check brake fluid" light came on and brakes stopped working. Had to push all the way to the floor to get truck stopped. Went immediately to an independent service center nearby to have brakes checked. Mechanic knew immediately what the problem was and showed me where the brake fluid was going into the brake booster. He also stated he has seen the problem before and there is a recall out by Ford. I immediately contacted the Ford Dealership where I purchased the vehicle new. They told me I could bring it in for repairs but checked the VIN number and said there was no recall out for my truck yet. It was not safe to drive the truck in the condition it was in. I made a very cautious and slow drive approximately 20 miles to get the truck from my home to Southwest Ford in Weatherford, Texas for repairs. The repairs were made and I paid a total of $1,146.38 to cover the repairs. This problem is part of an ongoing recall. I am requesting my VIN be added to the recall for this known problem so that I may request a reimbursement from Ford Motor Co. Thank you.
