HAD JUST BACK THE VEHICLE IN CUT IT OFF, HALF AN HOUR LATER IT WAS IN FLAMES, BURNT EVERYTHING IN THE MOTOR AND FRONT OF TRUCK UP. *DT*JB *DT*JB *DT*JB *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 FORD F-350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BATTERY WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE CONTACT DISCOVERED SMOKE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE CONTACT ALSO MENTIONED THAT ONCE THE HOOD WAS OPENED, THE ALTERNATOR CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE CONTACT EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE. THE POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ALTERNATOR WAS CYCLING MORE THAN DESIGNED BECAUSE THE BATTERY WAS NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY CAUSING THE FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 81,000.
EXHAUST GAS TEMP SENSOR ISSUE: DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED, THANK GOD I WASN'T TOWING MY 5TH WHEEL. GOT THE MESSAGE ON THE DASH "STOP SAFELY NOW" AND 10 SECONDS LATER THE TRUCK SHUT ITSELF OFF. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. IF I HAD BEEN TOWING THE TRAILER ON A HILL I DREAD TO THINK WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPENED. TOWED THE VEHICLE TO ONE FORD DEALER, THEY COULDN'T DIAGNOSE EVEN THOUGH I FOUND THE PROBLEM ONLINE ( MANY F350 OWNERS HAVE HAD THE EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE) AND THEY TOLD ME TO PICK IT UP THE NEXT DAY. I DID THAT, AND ABOUT A HALF HOUR DOWN THE ROAD IT HAPPENED AGAIN. TOWED TO A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP, THEY REPLACED ONE OF THE 4 EXHAUST GAS TEMP SENSORS AND AFTER AN ABSURD $500 REPAIR BILL FOR AN $89 PART I WAS ON MY WAY. FORD HAS OBVIOUSLY KNOWN THIS IS A PROBLEM AS THEY HAVE CHANGED THEIR PART NUMBER ON THESE SENSORS - THEY DID SOME SORT OF A REDESIGN REQUIRING A NEW PART NUMBER. I NOW CARRY A SPARE SENSOR WITH ME AT ALL TIMES AS WELL AS THE CORRECT SIZE WRENCH TO REPLACE IT. THIS SHOULD ABSOLUTELY BE A RECALL ISSUE SINCE IT IS BOTH A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AS WELL AS SOMETHING THAT MANY OF US HAVE HAD. A SIMPLE ONLINE SEARCH FINDS MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME STORY. I DID CALL FORD CUSTOMER SERVICE, ABSOLUTELY NO ACTION ON THEIR PART. THE OLD ADAGE OF FORD = FOUND ON ROADSIDE DEAD OR FIX OR REPAIR DAILY WAS DEFINITELY TRUE FOR ME. THIS TRUCK HAS HAD 3 SMART JUNTION BOXES REPLACED IN THE LAST 3 YEARS IT EFFECTS THE FRONT TURN SIGNALS AND FLASHERS. IT IS A SAFETY PROBLEM SINCE WE ARE A DPW AND THE TRUCK SITS WITH ITS FLASHERS ON FOR OUR WORKERS. *TR
THE MOON ROOF TRACK ON MY FORD F-350 (2008) FAILED AFTER ABOUT 5 YEARS. I HAD IT REPLACED AT JIM CLICK FORD IN TUCSON AT THE BEGINNING OF 2013 AT A COST OF $2400.00. AT THE BEGINNING OF 2015 IT FAILED AGAIN. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR FORD HAVE AN ANSWER FOR THE FAILURE(S) AND BOTH SAID I NEED TO DO THE REPAIR AGAIN AT MY EXPENSE. I FEEL THAT THE MOON ROOF APPARATUS SHOULD BE STURDY ENOUGH TO LAST THE LIFESPAN OF THE VEHICLE. MY CONTENTION IS THAT THIS ISSUE IS A DEFECT AND COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE IS THE MOON ROOF IS BLOWN OFF OR CANNOT BE SEALED. FROM THE BEGINNING WITH THIS TRUCK WHEN I WOULD DRIVE IT FORWARD IN HIGH WINDS THE MOON ROOF WOULD LIFT AND CHATTER. THE FRAME IS PLASTIC AND NOT VERY STURDY. I'M SURE FORD USES THIS SAME PLASTIC FRAME ON MANY OF THEIR VEHICLES AND I THINK THAT RESEARCHING REPAIR RECORDS OF THOSE VEHICLES USING THIS FRAME MIGHT BE OF USE IN SEEING IF FAILURES ARE FREQUENT AND A POSSIBLE SAFETY ISSUE. *JS
I PURCHASED A 2008 FORD 350 SUPER DUTY KING RANCH WITH A 6.4L DIESEL AND STARTED HAVING THROTTLE PROBLEMS @ ABOUT 5,000 MILES. I HAD REPEATED PROBLEMS WITH THROTTLE RESPONSE. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE HWY @ 70MPH AND THE TRUCK JUST WENT INTO IDLE MODE AND WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE THROTTLE PEDAL. I WAS VERY LUCKY TO BE ABLE TO WEAVE THRU TRAFFIC AND PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I SHUT THE TRUCK OFF AND SAT THERE FOR A FEW MINUTES THEN RESTARTED THE TRUCK AND DROVE OFF. ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS I WOULD START THE TRUCK AND IT WOULD DRIVE A SHORT WAYS AND THEN KICK INTO IDLE MODE AND THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE PEDAL. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED INTO THE FORD DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY REPLACED THE THROTTLE PEDAL SENSOR AND GAVE IT BACK TO ME. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH CUSTOMER SERVICE ON 6/18/2009 CASE # [XXX] AS THE PROBLEM CONTINUED TO HAPPEN. I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED IN AGAIN AND THE FORD DEALER REPLACED THE MAP SENSOR. THE PROBLEM CONTINUED TO HAPPEN AND I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED INTO THE FORD DEALER AGAIN AND LEFT IT WITH THEM. THEY CALLED ME BACK AND SAID THE TRUCK WAS READY TO PKUP. I WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THEY HAD CHANGED A PART OR CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. I INFORMED THEM THAT I WAS GOING ON A HUNTING TRIP TO UT IN LATE DECEMBER AND WANTED TO ENSURE MY TRUCK WAS IN FACT REPAIRED. I DROVE TO ELKO NV AND SPENT THE NIGHT. THE NEXT DAY (SUNDAY) I STARTED THE TRUCK AND IT KICKED INTO IDLE MODE AND WOULD NOT RESPOND TO THE THROTTLE. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE FORD DEALER AGAIN. THE NEXT DAY THEY REFLASED THE COMPUTER IN THE TRUCK AND SAID THEY HOPED IT WOULD GET ME HOME. WHEN I RETURNED HOME I TOOK THE TRUCK INTO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER AGAIN. THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY DID CHANGE OUT THE PCM AND GAVE ME BACK THE TRUCK BUT WOULD NOT CONFIRM THEY FIXED THE PROBLEM.
