NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2014 GMC Yukon. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
Engine, check engine. Light comes on and traction turns off and stability Tr A. K turns off while I'm driving, which is very dangerous now. The engine also has a very loud clicking. Ticking sound I'm not sure where it's coming from. But when I drive begins to get louder, and my traction turns off while on The highway or any road going over it?Twenty miles an hour, which is extremely dangerous on texas roads.
Radio display not working Third row seat won't disengage because of the cable wire being stretched out. Can't remove third row seat. Rear hatch leaking water severely No accident, bought car from Causley GMC in 2024 in Michigan
While driving the vehicle it randomly looses engine function decreasing speed rapidly. The check engine light comes on and it says engine power reduced along with traction-off and stabilitrak- off. There was a safety recall 14V-614 that pertains to the chassis electronic module. I have had multiple shops look at the problem the last being a GMC dealer who replaced the accelerator pedal for the 2nd time but did not fix the issue. This issue began in early 2024 and vehicle has sat in driveway not being driven every since.
While driving, the vehicle display screen and lights start turning off and on. The warning lamp says " service trailer brake system" and the vehicle is unable to accelerate at all. Leaving me at a stand still in the middle of the road. It's a safely hazard because it happens suddenly and without warning and I am unable to move my vehicle so I'm just in the middle of the road. I haven't taken it in to the dealership yet. I looked online and there is a recall called " chassis electronic control module internal contamination" that meets the description of what's going on here, but when I called GMC they said there is no recall for my specific Vin, even though the recall is for my make model and year.
Rear Lower control mounts completely rusted out allowing the rear to move back and the driveshaft to come out of the transmission. Fortunately, this happened 1 block from home at a stop sign, if it occurred on a highway, it would have caused a major accident and likely injuries. Complete frame is rusted to the point of failure, heard from others that this has happened to other makes of GM products, Tahoe, Chevy pickup trucks. They likely all share the same frame.
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that on four separate occasions, while driving at various speeds, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was restarted after 10 minutes on the first occasion but started a lot sooner during the later failures. Additionally, the contact stated that at the last failure, while idling at a red light, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle was taken to a dealer; however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 192,150.
Takata Recall. The contact owns a 2014 GMC Yukon. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V054000 (Air Bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
State Farm is investigating the accident to see what, if anything, malfunctioned in my braking system. I ran a red light but when I pressed the brake upon approach of the red light my brakes didn't catch and so when I pressed them, I kept going at the same speed. I was going between 30 and 40 miles per hour I believe. Three cars were involved. I have a sore neck, chest, and burn marks in my neck region. I suspect my truck will be totalled. We performed routine maintenance on the vehicle. It had a little over 100K miles on it at the time of this wreck. There is not a recall on braking for 2014 models, but I see there is one for 2015.
The contact owns a 2014 GMC Yukon XL. The contact stated upon picking up the vehicle after the recall repair of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V054000 (Air Bags), she noticed that the dashboard was severely damaged. The contact stated that the driver's side of the dashboard had a hole as big as the palm of her hand. The contact stated that the passenger side of the dashboard where the air bag was located had two cracks that extended to the area where the passenger's side air bag was located. The contact stated that the dashboard was making rattling sounds while driving. The dealer and the manufacturer were notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 159,800.
Purchased new 2014 Yukon Denali in February 2015. Currently have 66,000 miles. September 2022: professional repair of the dashboard performed. Separation began June 2022. Separation of dash became larger, 2" to be exact, then the cracks appeared. Then it became noisy with rattling. According to the repair shop this is a common occurrence in some GM vehicles. GMC does not acknowledge this as a recall. February 5, 2021, our passenger side airbag was replaced by a certified GM/Chevrolet Dealership due to recall. Apparently, removal and replacement of airbag can weaken the dashboard. This is an issue I will advise GM of, whether or not it will make any difference.
Takata Recall. The contact owns a 2014 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that the front passenger’s seat air bag warning light failed to illuminate randomly with or without a seated passenger. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or independent mechanic for diagnoses or repairs. The contact stated that he received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V054000 (Air Bags) in February of 2021. The dealer was contacted however, it was stated that the parts were not available to complete the recall repair. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 10,000.

FOULED SPARK AND EXCESSIVE DEPOSIT FORMATION IN THE PISTON RING GROOVES ALONG WITH EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION. THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE OF NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR ON THE VEHICLE, BUT IS RATHER A KNOWN ISSUE DUE TO DESIGN DEFECTS WITH THE PCV SYSTEM, WHICH HAS NOT BEEN ADEQUATELY ADDRESSED BY THE MANUFACTURER. TSB 10-06-01-008M ADDRESSES THIS EXACT CONDITION. GMC HAS ADVISED ON THE APPROPRIATE CORRECTIVE ACTIONS TO ADDRESS THE ISSUES, BUT STILL REQUIRES CUSTOMERS TO BEAR THE COSTS OF CORRECTING THE DEFECT. VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 83,000 MILES ON IT.
CRACKED DASHBOARD IN SEVERAL PLACES INCLUDING ,PASSENGER AIRBAG POSING A SAFETY CONCERN
DASHBOARD HAS EXCESSIVE CRACKING IN MULTIPLE AREAS
THE DASHBOARD IS CRACKING, JUST NOTICE THE CRACK TODAY 9 OCT 2020.
THE DASH HAS CRACKED AROUND THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT SYSTEM, FLOPPING AROUND WITH INDIFFERENCE. CONCERNED IT WILL IMPAIR THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE BAG IN A COLLISION. THIS CAR IS COVERED AND KEPT FROM THE ELEMENTS IN SAN DIEGO. ONLY HAS 77K MILES.
WHEN IN GEAR, THE MOTOR WOULD REV AT HIGH SPEEDS WITHOUT ENGAGING. CAR IS SIX YEARS OLD WITH 104,000 MILES. VERY DANGEROUS ON THE HIGHWAY. OUR YUKON XL WOULD HAVE LIMITED POWER AND BUCK WITHOUT KEEPING SPEED. THOUGHT WE WERE GOING TO GET REAR ENDED MULTIPLE TIMES ON THE HIGHWAY (I-95) AS PROPULSION WAS NONEXISTENT. HAD TO PULL OFF THE ROAD, THEN SLOWLY GAIN SPEED TO GET BACK ON THE ROAD AND THIS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES.
2013 GMC YUKON DENALI HAS A CRACKED DASHBOARD IN 2 PLACES. IT WAS MAKING A LOUD SCREECHING NOISE AND TOOK IN TO OUR LOCAL DEALER WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED. THEY QUOTED APPROXIMATELY $1,300 TO REPLACE THE DASH.
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH ON A HIGHWAY, THE LOCKS ENGAGED, THE RADIO SHUT DOWN, POWER STEERING WAS LOST, AND THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN/BRAKED ON IT'S OWN. THANKFULLY WE WERE ABLE TO MOVE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD WITHOUT GETTING HIT. THE ONLY MESSAGE ON THE DASH WAS "SERVICE STABILITRACK." THE DEALER AND AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE ERROR MESSAGE. *TR
I have a crack dash right in the middle just below the mirror. I took it to gmc dealer in Tyler Texas about a year ago. I asked if they had any recalls on this problem. I bought this 2014 Yukon Denali in Illinois with 40,000 miles garage kept one owner. I also always parked Yukon in my 3 car garage. I wonder if there is a safety issure knowing the dash is cracked and moves when you hit a bump? Iam retired at age 63 and never had a dash crack on all vehicles I have owned. This 2014 Yukon Denali with 80,000 miles, garage kept should have never crack. My name is Fred Deven, phone #219-242-5923.
I have an outstanding recall on my 2014 Yukon. This recall is several years old. As far as I can tell nothing has been done on this recall. This is a safety recall! Previously I owned a 2008 Chevrolet Suburban with the same recall on it. I was told that no parts were available for the repair. I repeat this is a SAFETY recall!!! We had a wreck in the 2008 chevrolet suburban which deployed the airbags. Lucky for us the airbag worked properly. My wife was setting in the front passenger seat. If the igniter had exploded she would have been seriously injured or killed. We bought this Yukon from Carmax. The car came to us from Alabama. Hot and high humidity. As I understand it these are the conditions that make the igniter more likely to explode. Please do something on this recall.
THE STOP LIGHT (DRIVER SIDE) KEEP BURNING OUT VERY FAST (VERY QUICK) AS NORMAL DRIVING.
I HAVE THREE CRACKS ON THE DASHBOARD. 2 ABOVE THE STEERING WHEEL AND ONE AT THE TOP LEFT CORNER OF THE PASSENGER AIR BAG. 2 OF THEM HAPPEN WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS SITTING STILL AND THE OTHER HAPPENED WHILE GOING DOWN THE STREET. *TR
UNDER NORMAL DRIVING THE VEHICLE WILL GO INTO "REDUCED ENGINE POWER" MODE WHILE SAYING SERVICE STABILITRAK AND STABILITRAK OFF. GIVE THE CODE REFERENCING A 5A REFERENCE. I HAVE REPLACED THE ECM 2X, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY, THROTTLE BODY ENTIRE, HIGH PRESSURE FUEL SENSOR PROBLEM CONTINUES WITHOUT REMEDY. HAS HAPPENED TO MANY TIMES TO COUNT STARTING IN DEC 2008 TO PRESENT
SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT. A FEW MONTHS AFTER I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE THE SERVICE AIR BAG LIGHT STARTED GOING ON OCASSIONALY. BECAUSE IT WAS SO INTERMITTANT IT COULD NOT BE REPAIRED. AS SOON AS IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY IT STARTED STAYING ON ALL THE TIME AND I WAS TOLD AT THE DEALER THAT THE AIR BAGS WEREN'T WORKING SO I HAD TO PAY $450 TO GET IT REPAIRED EVEN THOUGH THERE HAD ALWAYS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE NEW. VEHICLE NOW HAS 17,000 MILES ON IT.
I HAVE 3 CRACKS IN MY DASH. ONE IS ABOUT 6 INCHES AND THE OTHER 2 ARE ABOUT 4 INCHES.
MY DASHBOARD HAS CRACKED IN SEVERAL LOCATIONS AND IS GETTING WORSE. NO FORCE OR SPECIFIC INCIDENT CAUSED THE DAMAGE.
DRIVERS SIDE POWER RUNNING BOARD STOPPED WORKING CAR HAD BEEN MAKING POPPING NOISE ON THE WAY TO WORK THIS MORNING DRIVERS DOOR FLEW OPEN HAD TO HOLD IT SHUT WOULDN'T SHUT THEN GOT IT SHUT BUT DOOR HANDLE BROKE CAN'T OPEN IT
DASH IS CRACKED IN MULTIPLE PLACES, AROUND AIR BAG
MY WIFE'S DASH ALL OF A SUDDEN CRACKED AND HAS JAGGED PIECES THAT COULD POTENTIALLY BECOME A PROJECTILE CAUSING SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH IF AN ACCIDENT WAS TO OCCUR. I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT THIS IS A ISSUE THAT IS OCCURRING IN ALL THE 2008-2014 MODELS; AND GM HAS YET TO ISSUE A RECALL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 GMC YUKON. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED BEFORE THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S HOME. THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER WERE NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.
THE PIGTAILS ON THE REAR WINDOW KEEP COMING OFF, THIS IS A POOR ENGINEERING FOR THE REAR DEFROSTER. I HAVE WENT TO A DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES TO HAVE THESE PUT BACK ON AND THEY ARE TELLING ME I NEED TO REPLACE THE WHOLE REAR GLASS AND I HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET. I DID NOTHING TO MAKE THEM COME OFF, AND I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I CAN NOT USE IT TO DEFOG MY REAR GLASS AND TO HELP MELT THE SNOW AND ICE WHEN NEEDED. I NOTICED THE PIGTAILS WERE OFF WHEN I WAS DRIVING AND THEY WERE SWINGING AROUND IN MY REAR VIEW MIRROR. GOING TO GIVE A ESTIMATE ON WHEN THIS HAPPENED INITIALLY, HAS BEEN GOING AND NOW DEALERSHIP WILL NO LONGER FIX.
CRACKED DASHBOARD
PURCHASED VEHICLE 2016 FROM DEALERSHIP. JUST RECENTLY WORKING THE PAST 6 MONTHS STARTED NOTICING CRACKS ON THE DASH. CORNER OF PASSENGER AIRBAG AND ABOVE INSTRUMENT PANEL AT STEERING WHEEL. I READ ONLINE THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2009-2014 GMC VEHICLES. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE IF AIRBAGS DEPLOY THERE COULD BE SHRAPNEL THROWN IN THE FACE OF DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS. THE DASH SHOULD IT BE DOING THIS IN A 4 YEAR OLD VEHICLE AND FROM WHAT I'VE READ GMC IS NOT WANTING TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR MAKING A CHEAP PART. A RECALL SHOULD BE DONE TO MAKE THEM OWN UP TO THEIR PRODUCT. 2015 MODELS HAS A BETTER DASH INSTALLED BECAUSE OF ALL THE COMPLAINTS.
DASHBOARD HAS CRACKED OVER THE AIR BAGS LEAVING SHARP, JAGGED POINTS
CRACK IN DASH NEAR AIRBAG. READING THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE. AFRAID THIS WILL INTERFERE WITH THE SAFETY OF THE AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT.
MY COMPLAINT IS THE DASH ON THE THE 2014 YUKON IS CRACKING AT THE AIRBAG AND CAUSING THE DASH TO FLAP AROUND IN THE MIDDLE NEAR THE SPEAKER. FOR A 60K DOLLAR VEHICLE, THIS SEEMS LIKE THE MFG SHOULD REPLACE DUE TO QUALITY. THE DASH COULD CAUSE AIRBAG PUNCTURE AND POSSIBLE FRAGMENTS IN AN ACCIDENT. I'M NOT FEELING VERY SAFE WITH THIS PRODUCT.
DASHBOARD CRACKED. *TR
DASHBOARD CRACKED NEXT TO AIRBAG MY VEHICLE HAS 39,000 MILES GARAGE KEPT. I CONTACTED DEALERSHIP COURTESY VERMILION GM OF ABBEVILLE, LOUISIANA. WHERE I PURCHASED IT AND THEY WOULD NOT FIX I THEN CONTACTED GM SENIOR ADVISOR THEY WOULD NOT FIX IT BECAUSE THEY SAID I HAD EXTENDED WARRANTY. I CONTACTED EXTENDED WARRANTY EASY CARE PURCHASED THRU GM AND THEY WOULD NOT COVER IT ALSO. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF GM VEHICLES THAT THE DASH HAS CRACKED MY PREVIOUS VEHICLE A GM SIERRA CRACKED IN THE SAME PLACE AND NO RECALL HAS BEEN DONE OR BULLETIN TO ALARM CUSTOMERS. THIS IS A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT BY GM AND A SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD CAUSE INJURY IF THE AIRBAG DEPLOYED. CAN YOU PLEASE HELP TO SEE IF MY VEHICLE CAN BE REPAIRED WITHOUT HAVING TO PAY ANYTHING AND HELP THE THOUSANDS OF CUSTOMERS FACING THIS PROBLEM.
As I have owned several GMC Yukons in the past, I was familiar with their dashboards cracking even when still under warranty. However, when my 2014 Yukon dashboard cracked, just out of warranty, I was shocked at the cost to replace and install a new dashboard. Thus, the replacement dashboard and labor charge to install it was simply unfeasable. As the dashboard continued to crack during the summer, an alternative mentioned to me by a mechanic at the GMC dealership was a "glued on cover called a dashskin." I purchased a Dashskin for about $125 and, following the instructions, glued the Dashskin over my existing dashboard. The Dashskin had an opening for the airbag and did not appear to impede the execution of the airbag should it be initiated. I've made two attempts to have the attached recall on the airbag satisfied but, on both occasions, GMC informed me that the dashboard would require removal. In my case, the dashboard and Dashskin would be unusable and I would be back to purchasing a very expensive dashboard. I know that there has been a longterm, ongoing lawsuit against GMC regarding their cracking dashboards, but have no idea of the results. However, their airbag recall coupled with their inferior dashboards should be their expense, not mine.
THIS IS NOT ABOUT WHAT HAPPENED IT'S WHAT COULD HAPPEN. I HAVE A 2014 YUKON WITH LESS THAN 60,000 MILES THAT HAS A CRACK NEAR THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG. I'M VERY CONCERNED WITH THE AIRBAGS POTENTIALLY BEING TORN IF DEPLOYED, OR PLASTIC BEING PROJECTED IF THE AIRBAG EVER HAS TO BE DEPLOYED. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. I HAVE REACHED OUT TO GMC ONLY TO BE TOLD IT'S COSMETIC AND WON'T BE COVERED, REGARDLESS OF WHAT I THINK OR THE CONCERNS I HAVE THE CASE IS CLOSED. THERE IS A FACEBOOK GROUP WITH OVER 6,500 FOLLOWERS THAT HAVE SIMILAR CONCERNS WITH ALL CONCERNS FALLING UPON DEAF EARS. I'M HOPING A RECALL CAN BE PUT INTO PLACE TO POTENTIALLY SAVE LIVES. I'M PRAYING PEOPLE DON'T HAVE TO DIE FOR THIS TO BE CONSIDERED A VALID ISSUE. I DON'T KNOW WHAT CAUSED THE ISSUE, POOR MANUFACTURING, AIR BAG NOT PROPERLY INSTALLED, OR WHAT. I WOULD LOVE FOR SOME RESEARCH TO BE DONE AS WELL.
THE CHROME WHEELS ON THE INSIDE ARE HEAVILY CORRODED AND CAUSING AIR TO RELEASE FROM THE TIRES. THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS AS WELL AS CONFIRMED REPLACEMENTS TO THESE VEHICLES. OUR VEHICLE WAS STRANDED DUE TO SO MUCH LOSS OF AIR, AS WELL AS THE SAFETY ISSUE OF A TIRE BLOW OUT. GMC REFUSES TO SEE THIS AS A DEFECTIVE ISSUE.
THE DASHBOARD CRACKED NEXT TO THE PASSENGER AIRBAG AND ON TOP OF THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER.
STEERING COLUMN MAKES NOISES WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL CRACKED DASHBOARD
THE DASH CRACKED IN MULTIPLE LOCATIONS. I HAVE 1 LONG CRACK OVER THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER AND 3 CRACKS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE ON THE AIRBAG COMPARTMENT. THIS IS MORE THAN A COSMETIC ISSUE. I AM PARTICULARLY CONCERNED THAT THE CRACKS AROUND THE AIRBAG POSE GREAT DANGER IF THE AIRBAG WAS DEPLOYED IN THAT IT COULD SEND SHARP PLASTIC PIECES FLYING IMPALING A PASSENGER OR THE SHARP PIECES COULD PUNCTURE THE AIRBAG LEAVING THE PASSENGER WITHOUT PROTECTION. I AM UNSURE OF WHEN IT HAPPENED; I JUST HAPPENED TO NOTICE THE CRACKS WHILE DRIVING LAST WEEK. *TR
BOTH REAR WINDOWS ARE LOOSE AND RATTLE WHEN CRACKED OR OPEN. SOUNDS LIKE THEY MAY FALL OUT WHEN OPENING & CLOSING DOORS IF THEY ARE DOWN OR CRACKED
DASH CRACKING GMC WONT DO ANY THING ABOUT IT IF AIR BAG WOULD GO OFF PLASTIC PIECES WILL FLY EVERYWHERE DEALERSHIP WANTS $1400.00 TO REPLACE IT ITS DEFIANTLY A DESIGN PROBLEM
