NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
Data synced from NHTSA on May 4, 2026
The fuel tank opener has become increasingly hard to operate. The fuel tank is supposed to unlock when the doors are unlocked. Sometimes it takes 10 or more times of unlocking the doors and checking the fuel door to successfully open the fuel door.
Fuel injector failed the entire engine on my 2022 Santa Fe had to be completely replaced. The dealership put in a new engine. Santa Fe is only four years old. That is highly unusual.
Vulnerable exposed radiator to road debris from the front and underneath my 2022 Santa Fe. It seems that this is an issue that is not covered by warranty and owners are held responsible with filing an insurance claim or pay out of pocket. Manufacturer needs to provide some type of protection for radiator or lose repeat customers.
Rearview camera has failed with a green screen instead of the camera view. This recall was covered by recall 24V87900 (Hyundai recall 271) for 2022 Santa Fe but my 2022 Santa Fe is not covered by this recall.
1. Component/System: 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe 8-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), specifically the transmission oil pump or hydraulic pressure system. Inspection availability: The vehicle is currently at McGrath City Hyundai in Chicago and can be made available for inspection upon request. 2. The transmission exhibited slipping gears, delayed gear engagement, loud mechanical noise, and a transmission warning light. These conditions create the risk of sudden loss of drive power, unexpected stalling, or inability to control the vehicle, which could cause accidents, collisions, or injury to the driver, passengers, or others on the road. 3. A technician at McGrath City Hyundai initially informed us that the transmission oil pump had failed, which aligns with the symptoms. Later, another dealership representative claimed there was no issue, and the fluid was simply low. No written diagnostic confirmation or independent verification has been provided to date. 4. Hyundai corporate has been contacted and opened a case, but they refused to provide documentation or details of any inspection or repair, and did not assign a supervisor to provide clarification. No police, insurance, or third-party inspections have been performed. 5. Symptoms first appeared on March 9, 2026, including: Transmission warning light; Delayed gear engagement; Slipping gears; Loud mechanical noise from the transmission
1. The transmission warning symptoms first appeared on March 9, including a transmission warning light, delayed gear engagement, slipping gears, and loud mechanical noise. 2.5-liter turbo engine use an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT). It has been in McGrath City Hyundai since March 10 for inspecton. 2. We were not harmed, but were very concerned about the safety of the car. 3. We only tried and waiting for this dealer for a ddiagnosis, but they verbally gave 2 conflicting diagnoses today. No written diagnosis report, no repair report. 4. This morning (9am), a staff informed us by phone that the vehicle has a failed transmission oil pump and that the dealership was waiting for approval for the replacement part. However, during a later call (1pm) today, another staff member stated that there is no issue for the transmission oil pump, and that the transmission fluid was simply lower than normal, with no leaks. We were told to pick up the vehicle today. We refused and waiting for them to email us a diagnosis report and a repair report. 5. The transmission warning symptoms first appeared on March 9, including a transmission warning light, delayed gear engagement, slipping gears, and loud mechanical noise. This conflicting information is extremely concerning, especially given the transmission symptoms described above. Hyundai issued Safety Recall #236 specifically for 2021–2022 Santa Fe vehicles due to the high-pressure electric oil pump in the 8-speed Dual-Clutch Transmission (DCT) potentially malfunctioning, causing a complete loss of drive power. And there is an active class action about it too.
The panoramic sunroof of a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid Limited spontaneously shattered while in transit on the highway. A resoundingly explosive “bang” preceded large shards of falling glass — leaving a massive hole in the sunroof’s front panel. The incident seemingly occurred without direct contact of any kind…no flying debris, no overpass roads, no inclement weather.
The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while driving approximately 50 MPH, the glass panoramic sunroof suddenly exploded, causing glass shards to fall into the cabin of the vehicle. No injuries were reported. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, who was unable to determine the cause of the failure. The contact stated that there was no impact on the panoramic sunroof glass to cause the failure. The vehicle was not yet repaired. Additionally, while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle only operated in LIMP Mode. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer to be diagnosed. The contact was informed that the fuel injector was inoperable and needed to be replaced. The fuel injectors were replaced, and the vehicle was repaired. The failure mileage was 55,000.
On my vehicle I’ve had to have the horn replaced at least three times. Paying about $500 for the last two instances. While there is no formal federal recall for the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe horn specifically, it is affected by a widespread, known issue where water intrusion corrodes the horn's electrical contacts, leading to failure. Hyundai has addressed this with an extended warranty or service campaign in some regions to replace the horn. Saying this my vin # is not included in this but I can’t understand why.
The car was purchased new on June 30, 2021. On January 25, 2024 at 38,347 miles the horns failed to work and were replaced under warranty. About a week ago (c. January 24,2026) the horns again failed. The dealer was called and I was told that there was no recall on the horns and I would have to pay around $91 for the horns plus labor. The service manager told me that this is a common problem that has to do with where the horns are mounted on the vehicle. They are behind the front bumper and exposed to the elements. I feel that this is a serious design flaw and a safety issue that should be addressed by the manufacturer. There should be a recall instead of customers buying new horns every two years. Had the horns failure occurred during an emergency situation it could have resulted in an accident and possible loss of life.
Took my 22 Sante fe to the Hyundai dealership to have the blower motor checked since I have no air flow in my car. Dealership informed me that the engine harness needs replaced and that it melted the fuse box under the hood. So, I am not able to replace my blower motor at this time due to the melted fuse box. Dealership also advised that they have seen the same problem in multiple 22 Sante Fe. and that there is likely more with the same issue within the United States. I have been noticing a melting/hot smell in the car before the airflow quit and I took it to the dealership to be diagnosed.
The air bags sensor is on which means none of the air bags will deploy if I am in an accident. The dealership stated it is not covered by the warranty. The sensors were not tampered with but the sensor is not working
My Windshield is the problem. My granddaughter drives with me often and afraid the glass will shatter. Yes, the corporate office for Hyundai. No, this was done while driving, all occasions.
Engine control harness with under fuse box due to melted fuse box. This caused my blower motor and relay to go bad. No air flow currently in car due to control harness. Dealership stated that there has been several Sante Fe that has came in this year with the same issue.
I HAVE HAD THE HORN IN MY 2022 SANTA FE REPLACED 3 TIMES OVER THE COURSE OF 3 YEARS, and now it doesn't work again. I realized the newest horn is not working when a truck almost backed into me yesterday and I had no way to warn them to stop backing up.
THE CARS HORN HAS BEEN REPLACED 3 TIMES IN THE LAST 3 YEARS AND IT STOPPED WORKING AGAIN.THE HORN LAST ABOUT 1 YEAR, THIS IS 2022 SANTA FE,
The fuel injectors have repeatedly failed. I am on my third replacement
The vehicle has activated it emergency breaking feature several times now on the last couple of months witouth any reason to do so. Presenting a major risk for the occupants and to other vehicles on the roads.
I purchased my 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe Hybrid brand new and in three years, both horns (high and low) have stopped working every year. I have had the horns replaced in March 2023, January 2024 and as I type this complaint, both horns are out again. It is a serious safety issue driving a vehicle without a horn. There is no warning that the horn is going to stop working; and I have discovered the malfunction while driving when I needed to alert another driver before we potentially collided. It has also been extremely inconvenient for me to take off work to take the car in for more service. What's more frustrating is I was told by a service manager that they (Hyundai USA) are aware of the defect with these particular horns but has chosen to continue to replace the defective horns with more defective horns. Now I drive an unsafe vehicle until I can take off work again to have my horns replaced with parts that will last for one year, if I'm lucky. I am asking for some assistance with this matter since it is clear that Hyundai USA has not made it a priority to solve this ongoing safety problem for all its customers who are having the same issue. Thank you.
The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while driving approximately 20 MPH, the vehicle failed to properly accelerate, as if the transmission was stuck in high gear. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed with transmission failure. The contact believed that the failure was associated with Manufacturer Recall: 236. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 98,300.
In November 2025, my 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe began to hesitate when accelerating and would almost "jerk" when I pressed the gas pedal. Soon after my check engine light came on and I made an appt to take it for the closest Hyundai dealership (as it's still under warranty 33k miles) Upon running a check the dealership notified me that Fuel Injector 1 has misfired and will be replaced. I receive my vehicle back and not even 100 miles later my check engine light in on again and the same issues are arising. Back to the dealership to see now Fuel Injector 3 has misfired and there is an open TSB showing all 4 Fuel Injectors need replaced. My vehicle was finally returned to me in January 2026. It is now February 16, 2026 and my check engine light in on YET AGAIN. I've been given the run around from Hyundai Corp about fixing this vehicle. Why is this acceptable treatment when a vehicle is under warranty ?
Vehicle experienced a spontaneous interior fire while parked and turned off. No collision, no injuries. Fire originated under the driver-side lower dash/kick panel near the fuse/BCM wiring, then spread into the driver door harness/trim. Exterior body and engine bay show no impact or external origin. Details: Heavy charring/melt concentrated at lower dash/junction area with upward/sideways spread along wiring paths; interior plastics, dash switches, and door wiring damaged. Vehicle was unoccupied. Aftermarket: No hardwired accessories in the origin zone. A dashcam was powered via center console USB/12V with a small battery pack (not connected to the under-dash fuse block). Status: Towed to [Dealer, City/State]; Hyundai Corporate Case #XXX opened. Insurance comprehensive fire claim opened; origin-and-cause inspection pending. Request: NHTSA investigation into potential electrical/wiring defect in driver lower dash/door-harness area on this model/year; safety risk of parked, unattended fires. Photos/videos available. Ever since I bought by car in 2022 brand new the car has been shaking when I press on the brakes going around 70 mph. I took the car multiple times to the dealership and all they do is resurface the rotos. One time they refused to even look at the car so I called corporate and they got the dealership to do the same thing as before. But still the car shakes. I called corporate and they said to take to dealership to once again get the rotos resurfaced (how many times are they planning to resurface the damn rotors?) I took to dealership because the car was saying it was overheating. They ended up changing the thermostat or something related to it. And I asked them to once again look at the rotors because of the issue. The guy came back and said “we didn’t look at your rotors but you need brakes and that’s $500”. They refused to guarantee me if doing the break job will fix my issue. And I’m fed up. I looked online and as it turns out, the Santa Fe’s have a lot of possible manufacture defects. Such as: -Breaking System (Shudder / Vibration Common Issue) -Cooling System (Common Failures) - Suspension & Steering Components -AWD / Drivetrain (If AWD) -Electronics & Software - TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) Audit - Turbo oil-supply pipe crack / oil leak risk -Fuel-system pipe / fuel-rail hose leak (on certain turbo models -Transmission oil-pump / transmission-system recall (power-train issues) -Rear-view / backup-camera defect (visibility / electronics issue) (this actually did happen to me and they fixed it, but they denied it was a recall when I asked if this was common. So they lied) -Trailer-hitch wiring harness fire-risk recall And possibly more issues I’ve yet to come across other owners having. These are pretty serious issues. Some causing even the car to catch fire. This is extremely worrisome and I need peace of mind. Please help me out Thank you for your time
The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that intermittently, the gear shifter was inoperable, and the message "Gear Shift Malfunction" was displayed. The contact stated that the failure required that the vehicle be turned, which automatically engaged the parking brake. The contact stated that upon pressing the Start button, and then depressing the brake pedal, the contact was able to move the gear shifter to park(P) and to the other gears. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the wiring was open between the transaxle, the rain switch, and the shift control unit. The dealer replaced the wiring. Upon test-driving the vehicle, the dealer noticed that the vehicle was still experiencing abnormal vibrations. The dealer recommended that the transmission be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 98,000.
Horn stopped working
Vehicle began to display Front collision avoidance system error/ radar blocked. This also disabled the 'smart' cruise control features. This happened any time the cruise control was engaged and we encountered traffic. The unit was in the dealer's service department for a week, and the front radar module was replaced and reprogrammed under warranty.
Fuel access door does not open correctly. Fuel door does not have a lock or a require pressing of a button to open; you would normally just 'push' on closed door to make it pop open. Over the past (3) months, this has not always been working. Sometimes it requires multiple high-pressure pushes (or a light bump) for door to open. On other occasions, unlocking the vehicle (all doors) and not just the driver's door that unlocks when exiting the vehicle has somehow contributed to getting the fuel door open. Multiple online Hyundai Santa Fe forums make mention of the fuel door being a widespread issue and suggest requiring replacement of an actuator in fuel door by dealership or prying the fuel door open with a screwdriver. Prying door open, in my opinion, is not an option because of potential damage to door and painted surfaces around the fuel door.
The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the warning message "Shifter Malfunction - Service Immediately" was displayed, and the gear shifter failed to shift from park(P), rendering the vehicle undriveable. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The local dealer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The manufacturer was not yet notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 61,000.
The horn has completely failed for the 4th time. Dealer is now stating it is not covered as mileage is over 60k.
While traveling out of state, my 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe (2.5L) experienced a sudden loss of power and rough running during acceleration to pass; check engine light came on. Independent shop pulled code P0302 (cylinder 2 misfire). Vehicle became unsafe to drive and was left at a Hyundai dealer in Indiana. I later learned Hyundai issued TSB 25-FL-001H (Jan 2025) for 2.5L GDI injector internal filter breakage that causes misfires and directs replacing all four injectors. Parts were quoted up to three weeks on backorder. This sudden power loss during highway passing presents a safety risk (inability to accelerate/merge). Vehicle is under 60,000 miles.
Bought Car in 2022 when COVID was still a problem. I had problems with the LED screen on the dash turning off. It did come back after about 10-15 minutes. I had to pull over to the side of the road in the meantime. I brought my car in and no problem was found. I was told that there was no way they could order a $6,000 part if they could not reproduce the problem. I still have had this problem periodically, but it does not last as long. This can be a safety risk when the screen goes out when driving. My check engine light has gone off many time in the 3 yrs and 7 months of me owning the vehicle. I am asked if the light is blinking when this occurs. If I said 'no', I was told 'then you don't have to worry'. I had my car in to evaluate the engine light on, and was told not to worry that no code showed up (I did not get a service record if they didn't find any thing, despite me asking). The very next day I was stranded on a busy Hwy. My car was towed to the shop. I barely got off the Hwy as one of my fuel injectors was bad. I was 45 min from my home and the check engine light went on. I started driving home and called the service dept. I was told that as long as the light was not blinking, it would be ok, and I tomorrow I should call for an appt if it is still on. My car started to act up when I was nearing my home, but it was drivable. The next morning the light was still on. I did not feel safe driving it around and felt it was another fuel injector. I was driving my car to the shop and the car was slowing down a little at a time. By the time I was about 1/2 mile from the shop, my car was only going 14 miles per hour. I was driving on the side of the hwy with my flashing lights on. Very unsafe. I know that I have a lemon for a car, but not taken seriously, that is a PROBLEM. I have had many more times that my engine light was on and would bring it in for an evaluation. Sometimes things were found, other times not. I am concerned about that lack of concern.
My Santa Fe limited 2022, has stopped running while traveling at 50 to 60 miles per hour on 3 different occasions. Car has 19000 miles and incidents have occurred over past 10000 miles.
The horns stopped working, and this is a safety item since it’s the only way to notify another vehicle or pedestrian if they will be hit by my car. Another day, a car came out of the parking lot and almost hit my car. I was only able to avoid that accident because I reversed quickly. I took my car to the dealership, and it was confirmed that the horns are not working. To fix this issue, I need to replace them. But since my car is out of warranty, I will need to pay for this service. On 07/14/2025, I called Hyundai (Case number 4117-7538) to request the application of an extended warranty that they started to offer for the 2021-2025 model year Elantra (Z03). Since my car is the 2022 model year Santa Fe, they did not accept my request. I noticed that on several websites, Hyundai car owners are complaining about their car horns. Just the fact that Hyundai started to provide an extended warranty for a different model, but in the same year range as my car, confirms that they are having issues with this part. I just know about this extended warranty because I also have an 2024 elantra hybrid, that is covered by it (as you can see on the uploaded letter).
Vehicle failed to accelerate while operating on the highway. Pulled over and shut vehicle off and smelled gas. Vehicle would not stay started. Towed to dealer and was told it was a defective fuel injector. All injectors were replaced. Apparently this is a known problem. This could have been extremely dangerous if I wasn’t able to pull over. Hyundai should issue a recall to replace these defective parts.
Vehicle purchased 9/1/24 from Courtesy Hyundai of Tampa. Dealership failed to file registration/tags until 10/4/24. 7/12/25: Vehicle experienced involuntary acceleration and braking, resulting in impact with my mother’s home. 7/16/25: Dealer issued written report stating vehicle was operating normally and documented a recall-related display/audio/camera software update. 8/14/25: Hyundai engineering inspection performed without my knowledge. No report has ever been released. 8/27/25: Hyundai issued corporate denial, blaming driver error and stating braking/acceleration systems were normal. 12/5/25: Second involuntary braking incident at highway speed on I-275. Five uncommanded braking events over ~20 miles. Service Manager stated failure was due to sensor/camera malfunction and instructed that the vehicle should not be driven and to tow immediately. Despite this, the vehicle had been released into roadway operation. VIN lookup shows an open, unrepaired federal recall (24V879000 / Recall 271) for the rearview camera system, marked Recall Incomplete, despite the dealer’s documentation that recall-related camera/software work was completed on 7/16/25. BBB Auto Line denied my claim only because the vehicle was outside Florida Lemon Law eligibility. No safety determination was made. Hyundai released no engineering, sensor, or camera data despite an engineering inspection. This vehicle has experienced repeated involuntary braking and acceleration at highway speed, involving braking, camera, and automatic emergency braking systems, creating a serious risk of loss of control, collision, injury, or death. Despite repeated failures, contradictory diagnostics, withheld engineering data, and an open federal recall, the vehicle was released back into public roadway operation. I request that NHTSA formally investigate this safety defect.
A few days before the complete engine failure the car became very jerky on the throttle response I would slowly add throttle and the car would jump all over the place with RPMs and felt extremely jerky when shifting gears. At one point the engine downshifted past redline when decelerating off the highway. The day of the engine failure I was accelerating up hill after leaving a stop sign. Around 25 mph the throttle stopped responding and the engine went to idle around 800 rpm. The car started violently shaking and sounding like it was running on 3 cylinders. I tried the throttle again and nothing happened. At this time I was slowing to a stop on the hill while still in lane being unable to get out of lane to the shoulder. Upon coming to a stop the vehicle continued to shake and eventually the engine stalled while keeping the electric on. At this point there was never any lights on the dash board to indicate a fault. Upon attempting to restart the engine it turned over 3 times and eventually started all while violating shaking and eventually stalling again. The third time attempting to start it did not turn over. At this point I was stuck in lane and needed to call the police to come and assist me because I was unable to move the vehicle under its own power putting my life in danger. Upon taking getting it towed to a dealership they said it was a fuel injector fault.
Vehicle will stall out while driving at speeds Loss of braking capability and steering capabilities all lost when this happens. Vehicle will roll until stop. No control to steer or brake
The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V879000(Back Over Prevention); however, the part to do the repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
Description of problem: The Transmission will disengage while driving, allowing the car to 'coast' as if in neutral. The problem sometimes occurs at red lights, where the vehicle remains stationary for a brief period and then corrects itself as if nothing happened. I noticed the "D" character flashing on the dashboard when the issue occurred, indicating a problem. The engine will rev, but the car will not move. The vehicle spent about two weeks at the dealership (Hyundai of New Port Richie, FL), but they were unable to find an issue after conducting over 80 miles of test driving. The last incident occurred on June 8, 2025, only days after I had removed the vehicle from the repair shop due to this problem. When pulling into my son's driveway, the car's engine revved to about three thousand RPM, and the vehicle rolled backward, out of his driveway, and into crossing traffic. Luckily, the pickup truck on the street was able to stop before hitting my vehicle, which was now sitting in his lane of traffic. I looked down at the dashboard, and the car was still in "D" but would not move forward. After a few seconds, the transmission re-engaged and moved forward again as if nothing had happened. I DID NOTHING AND THE CAR RECOVERED BY ITSELF! I returned the vehicle to the dealership for further investigation on June 9, 2025, and am driving a rental. Summary: This car is unpredictable and unsafe in this condition. Someone could drive this car for days without experiencing an issue, but it does happen when you least expect it! I use this vehicle for local travel only, about twenty-mile trips.
Was traveling on [XXX] near Reston, VA when the Santa Fe engine started missing and losing power and check engine light came on. Vehicle was towed to dealer and repaired on 04/26/24 Mileage was 36285. The repair order says it was fuel injector for cylinder #1. The second time the same thing happened was on [XXX] near Haymarket, VA. The date was [XXX], mileage was 36577. The engine started missing lost power and check engine light came on. Vehicle taken to dealer for repaired. They replaced injector #2. The third time was about [XXX] mileage about 51000. Was traveling near Haymarket, VA. Engine started to miss, decrease in power, check engine light came on. Vehicle was towed to dealer. Inspection of the engine revealed injector #3 was malfunctioning and they needed to replace it but could not get the injector for it from Hyundai. The vehicle has been setting at the dealer since then with no idea when it will be repaired. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
On [XXX] at [XXX], my [XXX] daughter was locked inside my 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe (VIN: [XXX] ) while holding the Smart Key fob in the back seat. She pressed the lock button, and the vehicle completely locked — with her and the key fob still inside. This violates the Smart Key safety feature described in Hyundai’s owner’s manual, which says the car should not lock if the key is inside. That system failed. There were no warning lights or alerts. I had no way to unlock the doors. I experienced a full panic attack. I feared my child could die from heat exposure. I was forced to break the rear window to rescue her. I was terrified the glass might injure her, but I had no choice. Since then, I have been emotionally traumatized and avoid driving out of fear it will happen again. To my knowledge, this has not yet been inspected by a dealer or Hyundai. I am reporting this because the Smart Key locking system failed in a dangerous way that put my child’s life at risk. This system should be investigated for defect. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
A shifter malfunction error appears on dash. When trying switch into any gear it, the dashboard and front headlights flash. When I was parking, I put the car in park, the dash said park however the car kept moving and I almost collided into car in front of me. Another incident happened the same day when I could put the car in reverse from drive. I couldn’t turn the car off. Eventually I was able to turn it off but I had to put the emergency brakes on to keep car from moving. The error will appear when driving which is scary. The check engine light will appear sometimes. The car is scheduled for service on May 7th at Empire Hyundai of New Rochelle.
The contact owns a 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe. The contact stated that while her son was driving 20 MPH, the vehicle failed to accelerate as needed. An unknown warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who determined that the fuel injectors needed to be replaced, but the parts were on backorder. The vehicle was then towed to a second dealer, AutoNation Hyundai Mall of Georgia (3445 Buford Dr, Buford, GA 30519), who determined that the fuel injectors needed to be replaced and informed the contact that parts were still on backorder. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.
I was driving at approximately 65 MPH using the advanced cruise control system. Randomly, the system disengaged and I started getting 2 MIL warnings on my console. MIL warning 1) was "Check Forward Safety System" and 2) warning the advanced cruise control parameters are not met due to warning 1. A few minutes later, I received a message on my Hyundai Blue Link app showing DTC C162078. After researching this DTC, I found that there are hundreds, if not thousands, of other drivers that experienced this same/similar situation -- unexpected loss of advanced safety features and smart cruise control features. In fact, Hyundai published a technical bulletin for another model with the same issue. The loss of these functions places an unexpected safety risk to the driver if this issue occurs when there is other traffic present. My vehicle was involved in a frontal accident once about 1.5 years ago and this issue has never occurred. This is the first instance of this issue since I purchased the vehicle brand new from the dealer.
this was a CERTIFIED vehicle i purchased. i dont believe it was certified because after returning it after -3- weeks because the windshield wipers werent working properly. after they looked at it the dealership told me that whoever put the windshield in it broke part of the windshield wiper connections and also ruined the calibration on certain safety features, and broke the windshield itself. this was not caught on their CERTIFICATION process and just put out on the lot to sell. they expected me to pay 1/2 of the expense for which i refused.
The car horn failed to work when I went to use it around April 20, 2025. I first noticed it while stopped at a traffic light and the car in front of me failed to advance for several seconds at the green light. Then I noticed a car drifting over the line in oncoming traffic and was unable to use the horn to alert the driver. As I drive with my toddler granddaughter in the car, I needed the vehicle fixed ASAP. My independent car mechanic had to replace 2 horns (Hi tone Horn and Lo Tone Horn). Today I came to know of a Hyundai Forum and did a search on car horns. Apparently, this is a known failure for many years. Some owners have had the horn replaced as many as 3 times. I since have requested reimbursement from Hyundai, but they refused because I didn't take it to a Hyundai dealership. There were no warning lamps or messages.
When shifting gears whether from parking to drive or from drive to park, the vehicle lags and makes a juttering noise. I am unable to move from the gear it is juttering in unless i turn the car off or hope that pushing the button turns it off. Whist it is juttering, it sounds as if the car is turning on and off repeatedly. This also has happened from the auto stop when trying to accelerate after stopping at a light and it get stuck and unable to move without me turning the car off and turning it back on. This is a safety issue since I was in the middle of a road, and I essentially have no control over what my car does. I have taken my car to Patrick Hyundai in Schaumburg, IL multiple times and they do nothing about it since they "don't see it happening whilst it is there". I have videos of it and they still do nothing.
Steering made clicking sounds when turning. Injectors caused the car to run very rough!
The reverse camera system did not come on when reversing. It could lead to someone like a child getting hurt if they’re walking behind the vehicle. The problem was reproduced by the dealer and serviced for this issue. They confirmed it was the same problem as the recall. There is a recall for 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe’s that were manufactured in the Alabama plant. This is where my car was manufactured. For some reason, it was not included in the VINs that were recalled.
Vehicle would not shift when accelerating on gas pedal while driving, rpm’s went up to 5,000. Had the car towed to closest dealership and they haven’t looked at it. They stated they are unable to assist me with a rental car. I am home alone with 2 children and cannot go to work. There is a transmission recall on the 2022 Hyundai Santa Fe with the exact problems the car has been having. Recall #236, campaign #22V746000. I called the recall consequences customer service # and they stated they were unable to help me until the dealership looked at it. The problem started in fall of 2024 and I took it into the dealership first on 11/5/24 and again when it continued the problem 11/14/24. The 11/14/24 visit they performed a software update and the car shifted smoother in Smart Drive Mode only. On Friday, 3/14/25, while driving home from work, the car would not shift at all when pressed the gas turning into traffic. I turned on my hazard lights and pulled into a parking lot. I called roadside assistance and had the vehicle towed to the dealership.
