I AM VERY WORRIED ABOUT HAVING SOMEBODY CRASH INTO THE REAR OF MY JEEP. THE REAR BUMPER IS RIGHT NEXT TO FUEL TANK. THEY ARE GOING TO INSTALL TRAILER HITCHES ( FOR ADDED PROTECTION ) ON SOME OTHER YEAR JEEPS BUT NOT MINE !! HOW CAN THIS BE FAIR WHEN THEY ARE ALL BUILT THE SAME WAY. FOR SAFETY, MODIFICATION OF REAR END OF JEEP TO PREVENT A FIRE. I WAS NOT NOTIFIED. *TR
GAS TANK SHIELD HAS RUSTED OUT AND PIECES ARE MISSING, THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED FOR A SAFETY HAZARD THAT THE GAS TANK CAN BE EXPOSED AND PUNCTURED BEING FATAL. I BROUGHT THIS TO A JEEP DEALER AND THEY SAID TO CALL CHRYSLER CORP. THEY DID NOT TAKE PHOTOS. THE DOORS IN SIDE ARE RUSTED. ALL YEARS ARE BEING RECALLED FOR THIS ISSUE OF THE SHIELD BUT NOT MY YEAR. DO YOU HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL SOMEONE DIES TO RECALL THESE UNSAFE VEHICLE'S?!! JEEPS ARE VERY EXPENSIVE AND I FEEL THAT MINE SHOULD BE FIXED ASAP BY THE COMPANY. *TR
SUNNY DAY, DRY ROAD. AT THE STOP I HEARD A LOUD 'TOC' SOUND REAR RIGHT SIDE. FELT LIKE THE REAR OF THE CAR HAD SLID. I MADE MY RIGHT TURN AND ACCELERATED ON ROAD WHEN THE CAR STARTED SWAYING LEFT AND RIGHT, I COULD NOT KEEP THE CAR ON THE ROAD AND ENDED UP ON THE LEFT LANE (55M/HR ROAD). MANAGED TO SLOW DOWN AND STOP IN PARKING LOT. MECHANIC SAID EXTREME CORROSION OF FRAME CAUSED SEPARATION OF THE AXLE TO THE RIGHT SIDE TORQUE. AXLE MOVED REARWARDLY TO LEAN AGAINST THE WING. *TR
I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK DRIVING ABOUT 70MPH ON THE FREEWAY. AFTER A COUPLE OF MINUTES MY HOOD OPENED UP ON ITS OWN AND SLAMMED AGAINST MY WINDSHIELD WHICH CAUSED MY WINDSHIELD TO SHATTER. I WAS NEARLY IN MULTIPLE WRECKS WHILE ON THE FREEWAY BECAUSE 90 TO 95% OF MY WINDSHIELD WAS COVERED BY THE HOOD OF MY CAR. THIS WAS BY FAR THE SCARIEST THING THAT I HAVE EVER FACED. I NEARLY LOST MY LIFE ON THE FREEWAY. I AM NOT ABLE TO DRIVE MY JEEP AT THE MOMENT AND HONESTLY PREFER NOT TO DRIVE IT ANYMORE. I STRONGLY FEEL LIKE SOMETHING SHOULD BE DONE ABOUT THIS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR FRAME WAS RUSTED AND CAUSED THE FRAME TO SEPARATE ON THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE. THE FAILURE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO BE PULLED INTO THE LEFT LANE WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO THE EXTENSIVE CORROSION OF THE FRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 160,000. UPDATED 02/27/12
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT ADJUSTER FAILED. THE SEAT SHIFTED WHILE HE WAS DRIVING 55 MPH AND HE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE ADJUSTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BUT THE PART WAS BACKORDERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE - HEATER CORE LEAKAGE LED US TO TAKE UP CARPET - BOTH DRIVER'S SIDE AND PASSENGER SIDE HOLES IN THE FRAME WHICH HOLD THE SEATS DOWN TO THE BODY, WERE RUSTED THROUGH. CAUSE - WATER TRAP (DESIGN FLAW) IN DESIGN OF THE UNIBODY, AND NO UNDERCOATING TO HELP PREVENT SUCH OCCURRENCE. FRAME METAL IS APPROX. 1/8TH INCH THICK. AREAS AFFECTED WERE CUT OUT AND NEW METAL WELDED IN (BY PRIVATE PARTY - NOT DEALER. I DO HAVE THE PIECES WHICH WERE CUT OUT.) SHOULD THERE HAVE BEEN A COLLISION, THE SEATS WOULD HAVE BROKEN LOOSE FROM THE FRAME AND SERIOUS INJURIES WOULD HAVE OCCURRED. OTHER COMMENTS MADE ON THIS SAME VEHICLE, TO INCLUDE OURS, RELATE HOW THE ACTUAL SEAT FRAME BREAKS. METAL FOUND WHEN THIS OCCURRED IS WEAKENED - NOT RE-ENFORCED TO PREVENT BREAKAGE. *TR
SEATS BUSTING OFF IN JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE BOTH SIDES WAS RIDING IN A 2000 GRAND CHEROKEE THE DRIVERS SEAT BUSTED TIPPED BACK DURING ACCELERATION FROM STOP. *TR
MY 2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE FRONT DRIVER SEAT TRACK HAS BROKE AND BEEN REPAIRED AND BROKE 3 TIMES NOW IN A YEAR. IT STARTED OUT AS LITTLE WOBBLE LIKE BOLT LOOSE, WHICH IS WHAT I THOUGHT IT WAS. MY MECHANIC PULLED THE SEAT OUT AND FOUND THE CRACK AND BROKEN METAL. TOOK IT TO AND CERTIFIED WELDER AND HAD IT WELDED. HE TOLD MY THE METAL WAS CHEAP AND THAT HE HAS WELDED 3 OTHERS WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THE LAST TIME HE WELDED IT FOR ME HE ADDED SOME METAL WHICH LASTED 6 MONTHS BEFORE BREAKING IN ANOTHER SPOT. NOW I JUST HAVE THE BACK WEDGED UP WITH BLOCK OF WOOD AND HAVE NO ADJUSTMENT IN MY SEAT ANYMORE. TALKED TO DEALER AFTER FIRST BREAK AND WAS TOLD THEY NEW OF SOME PROBLEM BUT WASN'T COVERED UNDER WARRANTIES OR NO RECALLS. NEW REPLACEMENT TRACK ARE EXPENSIVE AND MADE THE SAME AS ORIGINAL, WHICH HAS BEEN KNOWN TO BREAK TOO. SOUNDS LIKE ALOT OF PEOPLE ARE HAVING THESE ISSUES FROM WHAT I HAVE FOUND ON-LINE. PLEASE RECALL THIS ISSUE FOR EVERYONE SAFETY, AND BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. *TR
MY 2000 JEEP CHEROKEE LAREDO HAS BEEN SWAPPED-IT SEEMS TO BE A SIMPLE PROCEDURE FOR ONES IN MY AREA , THE VEHICLE PASSES AS THE ONE I PURCHASED BUT SEVERAL THINGS ARE DIFFERENT, I WOULD LIKE SOMEONE TO PLEASE LOOK INTO THIS MATTER. UPON GENERAL USE THE PLASTIC PIN IN THE WINDOW REGULATOR (DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT) BROKE DROPPING THE WINDOW DOWN INTO THE DOOR. I CONTACTED THE CHRYSLER DEALER ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT THEY CANNOT KEEP THESE IN STOCK AS THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE. I WAS TOLD THEY WILL NOT ISSUE A RECALL BECAUSE THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. HOWEVER, AT THE TIME IT WAS 20 DEGREES BELOW ZERO AND I HAD A 6 MONTH OLD BABY IN THE CAR. I HAVE NOT FIXED IT YET AS THERE ARE SO MANY REPLACEMENTS FOR THIS THAT THE ONE FOR MY VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN FOUND AND THE COST IS VERY STEEP. CHRYSLER HAS ADMITTED THAT THIS WAS A POOR DESIGN AND HAS SINCE BEEN CHANGED. I FEEL THEY SHOULD FIX MY CAR AT THEIR EXPENSE. *TR
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE CHECKING THE OIL, THE HYDRAULIC HOOD SUPPORTS FAILED ALLOWING THE HOOD TO STRIKE THE CONTACT IN THE HEAD. MINOR INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. ALTHOUGH THE PROBLEM PERSISTED, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SEEN BY A DEALER. UPDATED 4/6/2006 - *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE LOOKING INTO THE VEHICLE ENGINE ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, THE HOOD CAME DOWN AND STRUCK THE CONTACT ON THE BACK OF THE NECK. THERE WERE NO WARNING SOUNDS PRIOR TO THE HOOD FALLING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHO EXPRESSED THAT THERE HAVE BEEN ISSUES WITH THE HOOD PROP RODS ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT MODEL YEARS OF THE CHEROKEES. THE DEALER WAS ABLE TO REPLACE THE HOOD PROP RODS.
THE RUBBER MOLDING AROUND ALL OF THE WINDOWS (EXCLUDING THE WINDSHIELD) HAS FAILED TO REMAIN IN PLACE. THE ACTUATOR IN TWO OF THE DOORS HAS FAILED. *NM
2000 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE LAREDO HOOD STRUT FAILED AND FELL ONTO ME AS I WAS CHECKING OIL. NO SERIOUS INJURY OCCURRED BUT THE MECHANISM SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED AND COULD EASILY HAVE SERIOUSLY INJURED ME HAD I NOT BEEN AS AWARE AND QUICK AS I WAS. DEALER REFUSES TO REPLACE OR REPAIR THE FAILED DEVICE. OFFERED TO REPLACE FOR $106.00. *JB
2003 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE. HOOD GAS SHOCKS THAT HOOD THE HOOD UP HAVE FAILED AND THE HOOD WILL NOT STAY IN THE UP POSITION. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, THE FIRST TIME THIS HAPPENS YOU ARE NOT EXPECTING THE HOOD TO FALL AND LUCKLY I GOT OUT OF THE WAY OR WOULD OF SUFFERED A SEVERE HEAD IMPACT.*AK
THE HYDRAULICS DON'T HOLD THE HOOD UP IN THE OPEN POSITION. HOOD CAME DOWN ON THE CONSUMER, BUT THEY WERE ABLE TO CATCH IT BEFORE ANY INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. DEALERSHIP SERVICED THE HOOD, BUT PROBLEM RECURRED. *AK THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE HOOD STILL FALLS DOWN. HYDRAULIC ARMS DO NOT HOLD AND THREE IS NO SAFETY ARM SUBSTITUTE. *TC
