Every time I fill my gas tank it takes 20 minutes to fill it just keeps shutting gas off at handle. I have checked a Jeep forum it says it is a roll over valve in gas tank and entire tank has to be replaced at a cost of around 800.00 to 1000.00 dollars. It also caused engine to run rough and shut off a lot. This is something Jeep should have to repair at their cost not consumers. It has been going on for about 6-8 months and it scare me each time it happens Thank you
VEHICLE STALLS OUT DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AFTER FILLING GAS TANK TO FULL LEVEL. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SITUATION THAT MANY PEOPLE WITH THE JEEP PATRIOT ARE EXPERIENCING. THE FIX IS KNOWN. WHEN WILL THIS ISSUE BE RECALLED AND ADDRESSED?
AFTER FILLING UP WITH GAS, THE CAR STARTED JERKING WHEN DRIVING. WHEN SITTING AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT, THE CAR JUST SHUT OFF. THIS OCCURS AFTER FILLING UP THE TANK WITH GAS. WHEN SITTING AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS, THE CARS RPM'S DROP THAT THE CAR ALMOST SHUTS OFF IF YOU DON'T KEEP IT MOVING.
WHILE DRIVING AROUND 40 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY THE JEEP SLOWED DOWN AND STALLED. NO WARNINGS OR INDICATOR LIGHTS CAME ON AT THAT TIME. SHUT JEEP DOWN AND RESTARTED WAITING A FEW SECONDS BEFORE ACCELERATING. AT THE TIME OF ACCELERATING JEEP STUTTERED A BIT AND THEN DROVE FROM 5 MPH TO 20 MPH WITHOUT ENCOURAGEMENT FROM GAS PETAL. IMMEDIATELY APPLIED THE BREAK AND CAR STALLED AGAIN. AGAIN RESTARTED THE CAR TO MOVE OFF OF HIGHWAY AND THE THROTTLE INDICATOR LIGHT FINALLY CAME ON. NO INDICATIONS BEFORE STALLS HAPPENED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM. HAD TO HAVE THE FULL BODY THROTTLE AND FUEL INJECTOR REPLACED FOR 1500.00/2 DAY REPAIR. 2010 JEEP HAS 86,000 MILES ON IT. VERY CONCERNED THAT THERE WAS NO WARNING, LIGHT, OR CHANGE IN DRIVING BEFORE STALLING WITH KIDS IN THE CAR ON THE HIGHWAY. IT COULD HAVE BEEN A DEADLY ACCIDENT HAD I NOT BEEN DRIVING AT 7 AM WITH NO TRAFFIC ON THE ROAD.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 JEEP PATRIOT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE APPROACHING TO STOP, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE FAILURE WAS UNDETERMINED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.
DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND AUTO SUDDENLY LOST POWER ALTHOUGH ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING IT WOULD JUST IDLE, EVEN WITH THE GAS PEDAL ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, TURNED AUTO OFF AND LET IT SET FOR A FEW MINUTES AND WHEN IT RESTARTED IT APPEARED TO BE OK, WOULD TAKE GAS, THEN ON 3-19-2015 THIS HAPPENED 3 DIFFERENT TIMES WITHIN A 150 MILES ON THE INTERSTATE,WOULD HAVE TO UNHOOK THE BATTERY AND RECONNECT IT BEFORE THE PROBLEM WOULD CLEAR UP, THEN DRIVE IT JUST A BIT MORE AND IT WOULD HAPPEN AGAIN. *TR
MY 2010 PATRIOT LIMITED STALLS ALL THE TIME. IT GETS WORSE WHILE SITTING AT A RED LIGHT. I HAVE TO PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL, REV UP THE ENGINE SO IT DOES NOT GO DEAD. IT SEEMS TO GET WORSE IF THE GAS TANK IS BELOW 1/2 TANK. ALSO I REALLY THOUGHT SOMEONE WAS STEALING MY GAS BECAUSE THE GAUGE GOES UP AND DOWN. THE VEHICLE IS A 2010 JEEP PATRIOT LATITUDE, TRAIL RATED MODEL. APPARENTLY STRUCK A ROCK WITH THE TAILPIPE WHICH CAUSED THE MUFFLER TO MOVE UPWARD, RESULTING IN THE MUFFLER GETTING CAUGHT ON THE MUFFLER HANGER MOUNTS. THIS ALLOWED THE TAILPIPE OUTLET TO REST ABOVE AND ON THE INSIDE OF THE BUMPER COVER FASCIA. DAMAGE TO MUFFLER AND TAILPIPE WAS COSMETIC, BUT HEAT FROM THE EXHAUST CAUSED THE BUMPER TO MELT AND CHAR. CANNOT BE CERTAIN IF THERE WAS ANY FLAME OR FIRE AS OTHERS HAVE REPORTED. WE ATTEMPTED TO DISLODGE THE MUFFLER BY HAND, BUT IT IS TOO TIGHTLY WEDGED IN. ROAD HAZARDS ARE A FACT OF DRIVING, AND DRIVERS SHOULD DO THEIR BEST TO AVOID THEM. HOWEVER, LIGHT TO MODERATE IMPACT TO A MUFFLER SHOULD NOT CAUSE A SITUATION WHERE A HOT TAILPIPE CAN COME IN CONTACT OR CLOSE PROXIMITY WITH ANY PLASTIC PARTS (SUCH AS THE BUMPER COVER) THAT COULD MELT, CHAR OR POSSIBLY IGNITE. THE PROBLEM WITH BOTH THE PATRIOT AND COMPASS HAVE BEEN NOTED IN ELSEWHERE ON THE INTERNET AND IT IS FOR CERTAIN THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED INCIDENT. AT THIS TIME, I WOULD RESPECTFULLY ASK THAT JEEP - CHRYSLER PROVIDE A FIX FOR THIS DESIGN PROBLEM FOR ANY POTENTIALLY AFFECTED VEHICLES, AND IN ADDITION, WORK WITH THOSE OWNERS WHOSE BUMPERS HAVE BEEN DAMAGED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING OVER TO MY PARENTS HOUSE AND MY DAD NOTICED A SMELL OF PLASTIC BURNING WHEN I ARRIVED. HE LIFTED THE HOOD AND THE AIR INLET DUCT WAS NOT PROPERLY POSITIONED AND HAD MOVED OVER AND WAS LAYING ON THE MANIFOLD. HE NOTICED 1 OF THE 2 SCREWS USED TO HOLD THE DUCT IN POSITION WAS MISSING. HE PULLED THE DUCT PART OFF AND NOTICED A HOLE IN THE UNDERSIDE WHERE IT HAD LAID ON THE MANIFOLD AND HEATED UP MELTING THE PLASTIC HOUSING. HE COVERED UP THE HOLE WITH DUCT TAPE AND RELOCATED IT TO THE PROPER POSITION. HE REPOSITIONED IT AND SECURED THE PART WITH ZIP-TIES. *JB

MY PATRIOT STALLED ON THE FREEWAY. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. I TOOK IT TO THE MECHANIC WHERE THEY SAID THIS COULD HAVE BEEN FROM A FAULTY GAS GAUGE AND I WAS OUT OF GASOLINE. I DO NOT THINK THIS WAS THE CASE. *TR
