The contact owns a 2010 Jeep Patriot. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at undisclosed speeds, there was an abnormal sound coming from the vehicle. The contact stated that the subframe was corroded. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and test-driven. The independent mechanic placed the vehicle on the lift and determined that there was a hole in the rear cross-body subframe. The contact called the local dealer and was referred to the manufacturer for assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that the vehicle could not be repaired under Technical Service Bulletin: 23-012-14. The failure mileage was unknown.
My subframe cracked in half which caused my tire to blow out on the highway. It almost caused me to crash into the gardrail and potentially other cars. My jeep has 110k miles on it and now it’s not safe to drive.
IN THE CITY OF KALAMAZOO MICHIGAN, I WAS DRIVING AND MADE IT OVER A CHUNK OF ICE(THE ICE BUILD UP FROM THE PLOW TRUCKS.) IT WAS SIMILAR TO THE WAY TAKING A SPEED BUMP TO FAST WOULD FEEL. WHILE I WAS GOING NO MORE THAN 30MPH OVER THIS CHUNK/BUMP WHEN I HEARD A LOUD CRACK THAT DID NOT SOUND GOOD AND AFTER THAT MY VEHICLE COULD NOT STEER BECAUSE THE ENGINE CRADLE WAS RUSTED THROUGH MAKING IT VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE BEFORE I HAD TO PULL OVER.

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT CROSS MEMBER FAILED DUE TO CORROSION OF THE SUBFRAME. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. WITHIN 7 YEARS IN A RUST BELT STATE THE JEEPS CROSSMEMBER IS SO RUSTED ITS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE. MY JEEP HAS BEEN SITTING PARKED FOR TWO YEARS BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO REPARE THIS HORRIBLE RUST DAMAGE, ONLY TO FIND OUT THERE HAS BEEN AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THIS SINCE 2017, I WAS NOT INFORMED BECAUSE ITS NOT A RECALL.. THIS WAS KNOWN BY CHESTER/JEEP SINCE THE 2007 MODEL, I'M GLAD THEY AT LEAST OFFER A 10 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE CROSSMEMEBER, HOWEVER THATS NOT GOOD ENOUGH. PEOPLE NEED TO BE MADE AWARE THAT THEIR VEHICLE MAY SNAP IN HALF WITH LITTLE OR NO WARNING TO THE AVERAGE DRIVER. THIS IS JUST AS SERIOUS AS A SEAT BELT OR AIRBAG MALFUNCTION AND YET THIS ISN'T A RECALL? THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. THE AMERICAN PEOPLE HAVE A RIGHT TO KNOW THEIR VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE, A RECALL IS THE ONLY WAY THAT INFORMATION WILL SPREAD FAST AND FAR ENOUGH TO MATTER AND POSSIBLY SAVE LIVES, NOT JUST A FEW DOLLARS.
I RECENTLY BROUGHT MY 2010 JEEP PATRIOT IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE. MY MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT MY REAR SUB FRAME HAS ROTTED AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED ASAP. AT THIS VISIT, HE CLEANED AND OILED IT AND ALSO ADVISED ME TO TAKE CARE OF THIS ASAP.
AS I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK IN A THUNDERSTORM AT 2AM ON THE HIGHWAY AT 65 MILES PER HOUR, THE DOME LIGHT BEGAN POURING WATER LIKE A WATERFALL ALL OVER ME, THE RADIO, THE SHIFTER, AND MY IPHONE WHICH WAS IN THE CUP HOLDER. THE NEXT DAY I CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER TO ENACT MY 5 YEAR 50,000 MILE WARRANTY AND SCHEDULE SERVICE. I WAS INFORMED THAT THEY DO NOT HAVE ANYONE AVAILABLE TO WORK ON MY LEAK UNTIL 3 WEEKS FROM NOW. ADDITIONALLY THE SERVICE IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AS WINDOW SEALS ARE ONLY COVERED FOR 3 YEARS 35,000 MILES. MY CONCERN IS NOT ONLY ONE OF BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE FROM JEEP'S POINT OF VIEW, BUT ALSO SAFETY AS IT IS VERY DISTRACTING TO DRIVE WHILE BEING SOAKED WITH WATER. THE WATER COULD ALSO CAUSE OTHER DAMAGES TO THE VEHICLE WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH OR FIRE. *JS
5 MONTHS AGO THERE WAS WATER LEAKING FROM REAR DOME LIGHT AND HEADLINER. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND SAID IT WAS PROBABLY THE SUN ROOF SEAL. SO I REPLACED THAT AT $241.00. IT HAPPENED AGAIN AND WORSE. THEY ARE STILL UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP WANTS TO PULL THE HEADLINER TO "LOOK" FOR THE PROBLEM AT A $500.00 COST TO ME. IF THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH JEEP PATRIOTS...WHY ARE THEY DOING NOTHING TO ASSIST THE CUSTOMER? BOUGHT A USED 2010 JEEP PATRIOT A MONTH AND A HALF AGO WITH LESS THAN 20,000 MILES ON IT AND NO APPARENT PROBLEMS. DROVE MY CAR ON DECEMBER 29TH AFTER COMING BACK FROM CHRISTMAS VACATION AND WAS GREETED BY A WATERFALL COMING OUT OF MY MAP LIGHT. AFTER STOPPING, ALSO DISCOVERED A LAKE OF WATER BEHIND THE DRIVERS SEAT. SINCE I DISCOVERED THIS LATE IN THE DAY THAT SATURDAY, AND THE NEW YEAR'S HOLIDAY WAS THE BEGINNING OF THE WEEK, I COULDN'T GET MY CAR INTO THE DEALERSHIP FOR SERVICE UNTIL THURSDAY. IN THE MEAN TIME, IT RAINED AGAIN AND I HAD YET ANOTHER WATER DISASTER TO DEAL WITH. *TR
WHEN TRAVELING OVER 40 MPH WITH REAR DOOR WINDOWS OPEN YOU WILL FEEL THE THUMP OF AIR PREASURE COMING TO YOUR EARS, THE FASTER YOU GO THE LOUDER IT GETS TO THE POINT IT HURTS YOUR EARS. AERO DYNAMICS CAUSE RAPID CHANGE IN CABBIN AIR PRESURE WITH REAR DOOR WINDOWS OPEN. EVEN WITH ONLY ONE WINDOW OPEN IT HURTS MY EARS!
I STARTED NOTICING A DAMP/MOISTURE TYPE OF SMELL IN MY JEEP AND THOUGHT IT MAY JUST BE THE VENTS FROM HAVING HEAT/AC ON! BUT THEN STARTED FINDING A LITTLE WATER ON MY PASSENGER SIDE FLOOR MAT AND SEAT! JUST A FEW DROPS AND THOUGHT MAYBE JUST FROM OPENING THE WINDOW! IT KEPT HAPPENING AND HAPPENING EVERY TIME IT RAINED AND SNOWED! THEN I NOTICED WATER DRIPPING FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW PILLAR NEXT TO WINDSHIELD AND REALIZED IT WAS LEAKING! I CALLED JEEP AND THEY TOLD ME I HAVE TO PAY FOR IT EVEN THOUGH I'M UNDER WARRANTY! THIS IS NOT RIGHT AND I BOUGHT AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND STILL FINANCING THE [XXX] THING! THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE A DEALER DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 42,000.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE WATER WAS GETTING INTO THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE INTERIOR LIGHTING IN THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO ADVISED HER TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 21,810.
