The contact owns a 2007 Jeep Wrangler. The contact stated that while driving into a parking area, the contact heard a loud bang, prompting the contact to attempt to stop the vehicle. The contact stated that the brake pedal needed to be pumped several times before the vehicle came to a stop. After a visual inspection, the contact observed that the rear passenger side tire was punctured, and the brake caliper and rotor had detached. The contact believed that the failure of the caliper had punctured the tire. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer or an independent mechanic. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 86,000.
ABS UNIT FAILED. YELLOW DASHBOARD WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. RED BRAKE WARNING LIGHT WAS NOT ILLUMINATED. THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN PUSHED TRAVELED TO THE FLOOR. FRONT WHEEL BRAKES BECAME COMPLETELY INOPERATIVE AS VERIFIED BY JACKING UP THE FRONT WHEELS AND TESTING. REAR BRAKES STILL OPERATED, BUT MINIMALLY. SUSPECT THE ABS UNIT FAILS BY STICKING IN A FAULTY BYPASS STATE THAT DISABLES MOST OF THE BRAKING CAPACITY, INSTEAD OF A FAIL-SAFE FAULT MODE.
REAR BRAKE CALIPERS STICKING. REPLACED JANUARY 2018. AGAIN 6 MONTHS LATER AND AGAIN 6 MONTHS AFTER THAT. THE LAST REPLACEMENT LASTED 2 WEEKS AND REAR RIGHT HAS TO BE REPLACED AGAIN.
ON MONDAY OCTOBER 16, 2017 I STARTED MY JEEP TO LEAVE FOR WORK. AS I BACKED OUT OF MY PARKING SPACE AT MY APARTMENT AND FELT THE BRAKE PEDAL GO TO THE FLOOR. I ALMOST HIT A NEARBY CAR BUT WAS ABLE TO PULL THE CAR INTO AN OPPOSITE PARKING SPACE AND THE CURB HELPED ME STOP THE CAR. I HAD BEEN DRIVING THE CAR THE DAY BEFORE WITHOUT ANY INDICATION OF A PROBLEM. I WAS ABLE TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO A NEARBY REPAIR CENTER. THE MECHANIC CALLED ME TO EXPLAIN THAT THE BRAKE CABLE HAD CORRODED AND THAT THIS WAS THE SECOND OLDER JEEP THAT HE HAD SEEN WITH THIS PROBLEM. HE SUGGESTED THAT I NOTIFY YOU TO REPORT THIS ISSUE. I'M COUNTING MY BLESSINGS THAT THIS HAPPENED IN MY PARKING LOT AND NOT A FEW MINUTES LATER WHEN I WOULD HAVE BEEN TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70 MPH. THE TOTAL COST OF MY REPAIR WAS $446 BECAUSE THE BRAKE SYSTEM HAS BEEN REDESIGNED ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC. IT IS MY HOPE THAT ENOUGH OF THESE PROBLEMS WILL BE REPORTED AND THAT JEEP WILL CONDUCT A SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. I AM ATTACHING A PICTURE OF MY DRIVER'S SIDE BRAKE AND ALSO A COPY OF MY REPAIR BILL. BOUGHT THE CAR USED. HAD PLENTY OF OIL AND BASED ON THE DATE AND MILES FROM THE PREVIOUS OIL CHANGE HAD ABOUT 600 MILES LEFT BEFORE NEEDED AN OIL CHANGE. NO LIGHT CAME ON NO GAGE INFORMED US THAT I WAS LOW ON OIL AND MY ENGINE SEIZED, I REPLACED THE ENGINE $6000.00 LATER AND NOW THE BRAKE HOSE STARTED SHOOTING OIL ALL OVER MY REAR TIRES WHILE DRIVING ON A STATE HIGHWAY AND NEARLY CRASHED HAVING ABSOLUTELY NO BRAKES. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD ON THE WAY HOME I WENT AROUND THE CORNER AND HIT MY BRAKES THEY WERE THERE THEN THEY FADED AWAY CAUSING ME TO HIT A POLE. I HAD THE JEEP TAKEN TO MY HOME AND WAITED UNTIL I GOT ENOUGH MONEY TO HAVE IT WORKED ON ONCE THE MECHANIC STARTED WORKING ON IT THEY NOTICED A BRAKE LINE PROBLEM AND TOLD ME THAT WAS WHAT CAUSED THE ACCIDENT AND IT WAS A RECALL AND THIS SHOULD BE TAKEN TO A DEALER WHICH I DID AND THEY REFUSED ANY RESPONSIBILITY. * (RECALL RELATED INCIDENT) TS

NO INJURIES OCCURRED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. A FEW WEEKS LATER, WHILE DRIVING AT 20 MPH AND APPROACHING A RED LIGHT, THE BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED AGAIN WITHOUT WARNING. ON ONE OCCASION, THE CONTACT COLLIDED WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF HER AND EXPERIENCED FRONT END DAMAGE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY UPON COLLISION. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED BY EITHER DRIVER, NO MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS NEEDED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED WHICH STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A DEFECTIVE BRAKE LINE WHICH CAUSED BRAKE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE VEHICLE REGARDING THE BRAKE LINE, HOWEVER, THE CONTACT DID NOT HAVE THE VIN AVAILABLE TO VERIFY THE RECALL. AFTER BEING IN PARK WITHOUT USING THE EBRAKE, THE EBRAKE LIGHT WENT ON. FOLLOWING WAS A SQUEELING SCREECHING NOISE. THE BREAKS IN REAR DRIVERS SIDE REMAIN LOCKED DOING DAMAGE TO THE CALIPER AND ROTOR. THERE IS SOMETHING MECHANICALLY WRONG WITH THE BRAKES WHERE THEY WILL NOT STOP APPLYING PRESSURE. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST COMPLAINT I HAVE SEEN IN A SIMILAR SITUATION WITH THE SAME MAKE MODEL AND YEAR CAR. THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING WITH SUCH A NEW VEHICLE. *TR

OVER TIME THE STOCK L/F TIRE RUBBED THROUGH THE BRAKE LINE CAUSING THE L/F CALIPER TO LOCK UP WEARING DOWN THE L/F BRAKE PADS AND OVERHEATING THE ROTOR. THE BRAKE HOSE, CALIPER , BRAKE PADS AND FRONT BRAKE ROTORS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I HAD AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC LOOK AT THIS AND HE BELIEVES IT IS A DEFECT IN THE DESIGN ON THE VEHICLE. THE STOCK L/F TIRE SHOULD NEVER TOUCH THE BRAKE LINE WITHIN THE TURNING RADIUS OF THE VEHICLE. I WAS VERY LUCKY THAT I DIDN'T TRAVEL VERY FAR WITH THE CALIPER LOCKED ON THE WHEEL, IT COULD OF LED TO A FIRE. CHRYSLER DID NOT CLAIM ANY FAULT AND CHARGED ME FOR THE REPAIR. I HAVE FOUND OTHER SIMILAR COMPLAINTS POSTED ONLINE. *TR
THE EMERGENCY BRAKE NEVER WORKS FOR MORE THAN A WEEK AFTER COUNTLESS ADJUSTMENTS.
THE 2007 JEEP WRANGLER STALLED, LOST POWER BRAKES, LOST POWER STEERING. TRIED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE AND WOULD NOT TURN OVER. WE NOTICED FLAMES SHOOTING UP OUTSIDE THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE VEHICLE. ALL 4 OF US CLIMBED OUT THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. I TRIED TO OPEN THE HOOD AND FLAMES CAME BURSTING OUT. WITHIN 2 MINUTES THE WHOLE VEHICLE ENGULFED IN FLAMES. THE FLAMES WERE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH THE ENGINE. IT TOOK THE FIRE DEPARTMENT NEARLY 2 HOURS TO EXTINGUISH THE FLAMES. THE VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS. *TR

WHILE TURNING INTO MY DRIVEWAY MY 2007 JEEP WRANGLER X (WITH 55000 MILES) "CHIMED" AND THE AIR-BAG , TRACTION CONTROL, AND ANTI-LOCK BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS LIT UP. UPON INVESTIGATING THE ISSUE I FOUND THAT THIS LEAVES THE SAFETY SYSTEMS INACTIVE! A BAD "CLOCK SPRING" IN THE STEERING WHEEL IS HE CAUSE OF ALL THE SYSTEM FAILURES. MY VEHICLE IS NO LONGER COVERED UNDER WARRANTY, BUT I FEEL THAT THIS SHOULD STILL BE COVERED BY JEEP/CHRYSLER. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN OR ME AND MY FAMILY. *TR

THE DEALER INFORMED THE MANUFACTURER THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO RECKLESS DRIVING. THEREFORE, THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER AGGRESSIVE DRIVING, ONLY DEFECTED PARTS. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS DESIGNED TO BE DRIVEN ON ROUGH TERRAIN; THEREFORE, THE BRAKE PURGE TANK IS DEFECTIVE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 10,000.
