DASHBOARD HAS BEEN DETERIORATING FOR PAST TWO YEARS. IT IS STICKY AND GLOSSY CAUSING LIGHT TO GLARE OFF THE DASH ONTO THE WINDSHIELD. THIS INTERFERES WITH THE DRIVER'S ABILITY TO SEE THE ROAD AND IS A HAZARD. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AND BOTH HEAD LIGHTS WENT OUT AT 70 MPH. THE PROBLEM STARTED WITH ONE LIGHT THEN THE OTHER WITH NO REASON. YOU CAN SWITCH THEM ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIME AND THEY USUALLY COME BACK ON BUT WHEN THEY BOTH WENT OFF AT THE SAME TIME AT 70MPH THEY RESTORED A 8 TIMES! I TOOK THE CAR THE DEALER AND INSTANTLY THEY START TALKING ABOUT WHAT I NEEDED TO PAY. I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR MANUFACTURES DEFECT. AS MANY MANY 2007 ES 350S ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM, BUT THERE NO RECALL. THIS A SAFETY ISSUE. I DO NOT HAVE A CASE OPEN WITH THE LEXUS CORPORATION BUT THEY ARE SINGING THE SAME SONG AS THE DEALER. I GUESS SOMEONE HAS TO SERIOUSLY INJURED OR DIE LIKE ES350 THAT HAD THE ACCELERATION PROBLEM TO PAY ATTENTION. VERY SAD. *TR
BELOW IS AN E-MAIL SENT TO LEXUS REGARDING A DESCRIPTION OF THE SO CALLED UNINTENDED ACCELERATION EVENT MY WIFE EXPERIENCE AND THE REMEDIES WE ARE SEEKING FROM THEM. THEY HAVE ISSUED A COMPLAINT # OF[XXX] ON AUGUST 15, 2012 MY WIFE [XXX] WHILE DRIVING OUR 2007 LEXUS ES350 EXPERIENCED WHAT WE ARE LEARNING IS REFERRED TO BY LEXUS AS AN "UNINTENDED ACCELERATION" EVENT. THE ACCELERATOR STUCK AND THE CAR COULD NOT BE STOPPED AS SHE SPED OVER 85 MPH. DOWNSHIFTING THE TRANSMISSION AND DEPRESSING THE BREAKS AS HARD AS SHE COULD DID NOT STOP THE CAR... SHE SAID SHE PULLED THE FLOOR MAT AWAY AND THE CAR STOPPED ACCELERATING AND SHE REGAINED CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER MY WIFE GOT HOME KENDALL HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THEIR SHOP, I CONTACTED LEXUS GOT CASE # [XXX]. I WAS TOLD DURING MY FIRST CONVERSATION WITH THE LEXUS REPRESENTATIVE THAT THE MATTER IS NOT HANDLED BY THEM (CUSTOMER SERVICE) BUT BY LEXUS'S LEGAL DEPARTMENT. KENDAL LEXUS, WHO HAD MY CAR, TOLD ME THEY DOWN LOADED THE CAR COMPUTER AND THAT A LEXUS TECHNICIAN WOULD BE AT THEIR SHOP TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE ON OR ABOUT AUGUST 23, 2012. ON AUGUST 22, 2012 I WAS ADVISED BY KENDALL'S SERVICE MANAGER [XXX] THAT THE LEXUS TECHNICIAN WOULD NOT INSPECT THE CAR AND THAT RECALL MODIFICATIONS WOULD BE COMPLETED BY KENDALL AS DIRECTED BY LEXUS. AFTER THE MODIFICATIONS WERE COMPLETE I PICKED THE CAR UP AT KENDALL ON AUGUST 24, 2012. WHILE DRIVING HOME VIBRATION COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE CAR AND IMMEDIATELY CALLED [XXX]. [XXX] SAID THEY HAD DETERMINED THAT THE CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE AND MY ISSUES WOULD/SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY LEXUS. BOTTOM LINE I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT "NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH YOUR CAR." THE DASHBOARD MELTING AND GETS SHINY AND STICKY IN THE SUN MAKES DRIVING IT WITH GLARE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 LEXUS ES350. THE CONTACT STATED THE DASHBOARD BEGAN TO MELT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 21,000. UPDATED 11/14/12
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 LEXUS 350ES. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DASHBOARD STARTED TO MELT AND WHEN THE SUN BEAMED DOWN, IT WOULD CAUSE A GLARE, OBSCURING THE CONTACTS VISIBILITY OF THE ROADWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHERE THEY ADVISED THAT SHE THE DASHBOARD WOULD NEED REPLACING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD COVER A PERCENTAGE OF THE REPAIRS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 40,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 48,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. *TR
DASHBOARD IS MELTING, VERY SEVERE. NOT ONLY A VISIBILITY ISSUE WITH THE GLARE BUT IT IS NOW DRIPPING INTO THE START ENGINE BUTTON WHICH COULD LEAD TO ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS AND BECOME EVEN MORE OF A SAFETY ISSUE. LEXUS DEALER SAID HE WOULD SUBMIT PICTURES AND GET BACK WITH ME. IT HAS BEEN ABOUT 10 DAYS AND NO WORD YET. *TR
DASHBOARD MELTED OVER TIME. IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 LEXUS ES350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE TRAVELING 20 MPH, THE FLOOR MAT MADE CONTACT WITH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO ERRONEOUSLY ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SAFELY MERGE OFF THE ROADWAY TO REMOVE THE OBSTRUCTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE FLOOR MATS WERE NOT THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT MATS AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO PURCHASE NEW FLOOR MATS. THE MANUFACTURER REPLACED THE FLOOR MATS ONLY TO EXPERIENCE THE SAME FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 87,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
MY RIGHT HEADLIGHT BEGAN TO FLICKER AND DID SO FOR SEVERAL WEEKS, THEN THE LEFT ONE STARTED TO DO THE SAME THING. NOW THEY BOTH COMPLETELY SHUT OFF WHEN I'M DRIVING. I NEED TO TURN THEM ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THEY COME BACK ON. THIS IS NOT ONLY FRIGHTENING, BUT EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. MAKES ME AFRAID TO DRIVE AFTER DUSK. TO ADD TO THE MATTER...... RECENTLY, MY PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW FELL OFF OF THE TRACK. MY HUSBAND WAS ABLE TO MANIPULATE THE WINDOW TO GET IT TO STAY UP...BUT NOW I AM UNABLE TO USE THAT WINDOW. THIS WEEK MY DRIVER SIDE WINDOW HAS DONE THE SAME THING. WHEN A WINDOW FALLS OUT OF IT'S TRACK IT IS TOTALLY UNEXPECTED AND CAUSES A MAJOR DISTRACTION...ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S RIGHT NEXT TO YOU ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE! ONE MORE ITEM...... NOW MY SIDEVIEW MIRRORS CHANGE POSITION WHILE I'M DRIVING. I COULDN'T UNDERSTAND WHY WHEN I WAS DRIVING I COULD NO LONGER VIEW VEHICLES IN THE LANES NEXT TO ME AND THEN I REALIZED MY MIRRORS HAD CHANGED. MY LEXUS ES 350 HAS BEEN HAVING A STICKY, MELTING DASHBOARD SINCE 2012, EVERYTHING STICKS TO IT AND ITS COLOR STAINS EVERYTHING IT TOUCHES. *JS
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 LEXUS ES350. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DASHBOARD WAS MELTING. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO GET INSPECTED BY THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM IN FLORIDA AND ARIZONA. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO HEAT AND THE CONTACT WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 77,000.
ON JULY 24, 2014 I NOTICED THE DASHBOARD ON THE DRIVER SIDE WAS STARTING TO LOOK STICKY AND SHINY LIKE THE PASSENGER SIDE, BUT DIDN'T THINK ANYTHING OF IT UNTIL I STARTED DRIVING AND COULD NOT SEE CLEARLY OUT OF THE WINDSHIELD BECAUSE OF THE GLARE FROM THE STICKY AND SHINY DASHBOARD. AFTER FURTHER RESEARCH I FIND THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY CONSUMER WITH THIS PROBLEM. IN 2012 I FIRST NOTICED THE STICKY AND SHINY DASHBOARD ONLY ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WHICH I'VE MENTIONED THE ISSUE TO THE DEALER WHO STATED HE HASN'T HEARD ABOUT SUCH ISSUE. I WILL BE BRINGING MY CAR IN AS IT IS NOW AFFECTING MY ABILITY TO DRIVE SAFELY BECAUSE OF THE GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD AND WILL PRESENT THEM WITH THE MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS SEEN HERE. CLEARLY THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD THAT LEXUS NEEDS TO ISSUE A RECALL ON BEFORE THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD MELTS AND AFFECTS THE AIRBAGS. I HOPE TO SEE A RESOLUTION FOR ALL SOON BEFORE A FATALITY FROM THIS DEFECT BECOMES NATIONAL NEWS AS THE ACCELERATION ISSUE DID. *JS
WHILE DRIVING MY 2007 ES 350 I ATTEMPTED TO LET MY PASSENGER SIDE FRONT WINDOW DOWN AND WHEN I TRIED TO LET IT UP IT WOULDN'T GO UP AT FIRST THEN IT CAME UP OFF TRACK UPON LETTING IT UP. *TR
I AM 100% SURE I EXPERIENCED SUDDEN ACCELERATION. HERE ARE THE FACTS: 1. APPROXIMATELY 4-5 P.M., I WAS EASTBOUND ON SEPULVEDA BLVD., TORRANCE, CA. (ALMOST AT THE CORNER OF ARLINGTON AVE) ABOUT TO COMPLETE MY LAST ERRAND OF THE DAY TO PICK UP A PRESCRIPTION AT RITE AID DRUG STORE. I TURNED RIGHT INTO THE PARKING LOT, NOTICED A SPOT ON MY LEFT AND DECIDED TO PARK THERE. THE PARKING SPACE WAS APPROXIMATELY 20-30 FEET FROM THE ENTRANCE AND I PROCEEDED TO PULL INTO IT, EASING UP ON THE GAS PEDAL AND GUIDING MY CAR INTO THE SPACE. MY CAR WAS ALMOST IN THE PARKING POSITION, FACING EAST AND I WAS APPLYING THE BRAKE TO FINALIZE THE ACT. THERE WAS AN EMPTY PARKING SPACE IN FRONT OF MY CAR, BUT THERE WERE PARKED CARS TO THE LEFT AND TO THE RIGHT. 2. AS I WAS APPLYING THE BRAKE, AND OUT OF NOWHERE, THE CAR ACCELERATED, JUMPED AN ISLAND IN FRONT OF MY CAR, AND HIT THE TWO PARKED CARS. I HIT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE OF CAR A AND SWERVED TO LEFT, SIDE SWIPING THE LEFT REAR PASSENGER SIDE OF CAR (B). ALL I COULD THINK ABOUT WAS STEERING CLEAR OF ANY PEOPLE SO I HEADED FOR A CLEAR OPEN SPACE AND IN THE PROCESS, MY CAR JUMPED ANOTHER ISLAND AND I WAS HEADED STRAIGHT FOR SEPULVEDA BLVD WHICH IS A MAIN THOROUGHFARE. BRAKING DID NOT STOP THE CAR SO I THREW THE GEAR INTO 'PARK' AND IT FINALLY CAME TO A STOP. THE LOCATION OF THE FINAL STOP WAS IN THE NORTHEAST CORNER OF THE PARKING LOT, AWAY FROM PEOPLE. THANK GOD NO ONE WAS HURT. I HAD NIGHTMARES THINKING ABOUT WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED. THIS CAR WAS OUT OF CONTROL. STATE FARM HAS RULED THAT I AM 51% AT FAULT BECAUSE I DID NOT MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. ALSO I LOST MY EXCELLENT GOOD DRIVER SAFETY DISCOUNTS BESIDES THE LOST VALUE OF THE CAR. IN ADDITION, THIS INCIDENT REPRESENTS THE DEADLY FORCE THIS CAR REPRESENTS TO PUBLIC SAFETY. IT WENT THROUGH 2 RECALLS AND STILL IT PRESENTS CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER. *JS
LOW BEAM XENON HEADLIGHT ON DRIVERS & PASSENGERS SIDE INTERMITTENTLY SHUTS OFF. AT TIMES BOTH LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS FLICKER AND SHUT OFF COMPLETELY CAUSING NO VISION AT NIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE SWITCHED OFF THEN BACK ON THEY WORK ONCE AGAIN BUT USUALLY FOR A FEW MINUTES ONLY. PULLED OVER BY COPS AND WHEN. IT SEEMS LIKE IT IS A KNOW PROBLEM AND LEXUS DOES NOT WANT FIX IT!!! *TR
TL* TAKATA RECALL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 LEXUS ES350. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V006000 (AIR BAGS); HOWEVER, THE PART NEEDED FOR THE REPAIR WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LEXUS DEALER LOCATED ON PROVIDENCE HIGHWAY IN NORWOOD, MA, BUT THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE FOR THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
WIFE WAS OPERATING THE DRIVER WINDOW IN OUR LEXUS ES 350. THE DRIVER WINDOW CRASHED DOWN INTO THE DRIVER DOOR PANEL MOMENTARILY STARTLING HER. SHE SWERVED INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. I HAD A TECHNICIAN PULL OFF THE DOOR PANEL AND THE PLASTIC MOUNTING TABS ON THE WINDOW REGULATOR AND THE PLASTIC MOUNTING TABS ON THE WINDOW HAD DISINTEGRATED. ACCORDING TO THE LEXUS OWNERS WEB SITE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON ALL 2007-2008 LEXUS ES 350 MODELS. LEXUS WILL NOT COVER THIS PROBLEM UNLESS STILL UNDER THE 4 YEAR WARRANTY. WHILE WE WERE DRIVING OUR 2007 ES350 IN A HIGH WAY IN DECEMBER 2011, THE PASSENGER-SIDE FRONT WINDOW GLASS SUDDENLY FELL OFF FROM THE TRACK, AND WE SHOULD HAVE STOPPED THE CAR RIGHT AWAY. AFTER REPLACING IT WITH A "NEWLY-DESIGNED" OEM GLASS IN A TOYOTA DEALER SERVICE DEPT (IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, SO WE PAID $600 FOR THE REPLACEMENT), THE DRIVER-SIDE FRONT WINDOW GLASS ALSO FELL OFF IN FEBRUARY 2012, AND WE COULDN'T DRIVE THE CAR UNTIL THE GLASS WAS REPLACED IN THE SAME DEPT. ONCE ONE (OR BOTH) OF THE FRONT WINDOW GLASSES FALLS OFF, IT IS VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE THE CAR IN A HIGH SPEED. AND, WE BELIEVE THE ORIGINAL WINDOW-GLASS DESIGN HAS A DEFECT AND THAT IS WHY LEXUS RE-DESIGNED THE GLASS (PLEASE LOOK AT THE TSB BELOW). I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY LEXUS DOESN'T RECALL IT FOR THE DRIVING SAFETY. I DON'T REMEMBER THE FIRST TIME I REPORTED IT TO LEXUS BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE THE PAPERWORK WITH ME AT THIS TIME. I HAVE REPORTED PROBLEM SEVERAL TIMES WITH LEXUS OF AMERICA. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TWICE TO LEXUS DEALER WITH NO AVAIL. THE ISSUE IS THAT THE DASHBOARD IS MELTING AND FALLING APART. DUE TO THE MELTING WHEN IM DRIVING DURING THE DAY I CAN'T SEE CLEARLY BECAUSE OF THE GLARE IN THE WINDSHIELD. THIS IS A DRIVING HAZARD. IT GETS WORST AND WORST. I HAVE READ MANY COMPLAINTS BUT NO RECALL. I NOTIFIED PROGRESSIVE INS TO SEE IF THEY WOULD COVER IT BUT THEY WON'T. PLEASE I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE ANY HELP. THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD ON MY VEHICLE IS MELTING. THE CAUSE IS UNKNOWN BUT IT APPEARS TO BE A MATERIAL, OR MATERIAL PROCESS, ISSUE. THE SHINY BLACK MELTING DASHBOARD IS HIGHLY REFLECTIVE. IT IMPAIRS MY VISION ON A SUNNY DAY. I'VE TRIED MANY DIFFERENT TYPES OF SUNGLASSES TO TRY TO MAKE IT EASIER ON MY EYES, BUT NOTHING SEEMS TO HELP. I HAVE TALKED TO LEXUS, THEY AGREED THAT IT'S A PROBLEM BUT THEIR OFFER TO "HELP" PAY FOR THE REPAIR WAS NOT ACCEPTABLE (50% OF ~$3200.00). THE MELTING PROCESS BEGAN ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO, IT WAS A LOCAL PROBLEM (REFLECTIONS ONLY AT CERTAIN SUN ANGLES). CURRENTLY, THE ENTIRE DASHBOARD IS MELTED (REFLECTIONS ALL DAY WHEN THE SUN IS OUT). I HAD A NEW MASTERCRAFT TIRE (215/55R17 TOURING LSR) INSTALLED ON THE PASSENGER FRONT SIDE OF THE CAR ON NOVEMEBER 17, 2011. ON DECEMBER 31, A CAR WASH ATTENDENT NOTIFIED ME THAT I HAD A BUBBLE ON THE SIDEWALL OF ABOVE TIRE. I WAS TOLD BY THE INSTALLER OF THE TIRE THAT IT WAS PROBABLY DUE TO SOME KIND OF IMPACT TO THE TIRE. PROFESSIONAL OPINIONS FOUND ON THE INTERNET INDICATE THAT ALTHOUGH SIDEWALL SEPARATION/BUBBLES CAN OCCUR FROM CURBS AND ROAD HAZARDS, IT ALSO "MAY BE DUE TO COMPONENT CONTAMINATION OF INCOMPLETE BONDING DURING MANUFACTURING." IT IS SAID THAT THIS IS MOST LIKELY TO BE SEEN "WITHIN THE FIRST SX MONTHS OF USE." (WWW.TIRERACK.COM) AS A CONSUMER, I HAVE NO WAY OF KNOWING THE REAL CAUSE OF THIS FAILURE. AND I'M NOT SURE HOW DANGEROUS IT IS TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE USING THIS TIRE. ONCE THE TIRE IS REMOVED AND REPLACED I WILL HAVE NO WAY OF EVER KNOWING IF THIS WAS MY FAULT OR A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. FOR THIS REASON I AM HESITATING TO HAVE THE TIRE REPLACED IMMEDIATELY. PLEASE ADVISE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD AT VARYING SPEEDS I HAVE NOTICED THAT THE OUTSIDE MIRRORS ON MY CAR CHANGE POSITION WITHOUT ANY INPUT ON THE SWITCH. DURING THE WEEK OR SO PRIOR TO THE FIRST TIME THAT THIS OCCURRED, I HAD NOTICED THAT WHEN RETURNING TO THE CAR AFTER LEAVING IT PARKED OVERNIGHT THAT THE MIRRORS, SELECTING THE MEMORY SWITCH WOULD RETURN THE SEAT AND MIRRORS TO THEIR PRESET POSITION. THE LOWER BEAM HID LIGHTS WENT OUT INTERMITTENTLY (SOMETIMES LEFT, SOMETIMES RIGHT FRONT-LIGHT). AFTER STOPPING AND TURNING OFF THE IGNITION, THE LIGHTS COME ON AGAIN AFTER RESTARTING THE ENGINE. THIS COMPLAINT IS NOT ABOUT THE VEHICLE BUT ABOUT THE PROCESS THAT LEXUS HAS REGARDING SAFETY RECALLS. THIS RECALL WAS DURING 2009. I READ ABOUT IT IN THE NEWSPAPER, CALLED LEXUS AND WAS TOLD IT DID NOT PERTAIN TO ME. IN MAY/JUNE 2011 MY AC WENT OUT AND AUGUST 2011 MY PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW WENT OFF TRACK DUE TO A BROKEN CLIP. I HAVE A 2007 LEXUS ES350 WITH 102,000 MILES. MY WARRANTY RAN OUT JUST BEFORE YEAR 2 DUE TO THE HIGH MILEAGE. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THE AC AND WAS TOLD THE AC EVAPORATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. ALSO, THE TECHNICIAN TOLD MY HUSBAND THAT THE WATERPUMP WAS LEAKING AS WELL AND IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. HOWEVER, THE TECHNICIAN FORGOT TO WRITE THE WATER PUMP INFORMATION ON THE TICKET. I CONTACTED LEXUS CONSUMER ASSISTANCE BECAUSE I HAVE HAD CONSTANT PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE; REPLACED HALOGEN BULBS AT $200+ A PIECE IN 2009, REPLACED DRIVER SIDE WINDOW IN 2010 DUE TO A BROKEN CLIP, AND REPLACED REAR BRAKES IN 2008. LEXUS ONLY AGREED TO PAY 25% OF THE BILL FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE AC EVAPORATOR AND NOTHING TOWARDS THE COST OF THE REPLACEMENT OF THE WATERPUMP. I DID NOT CONTACT THEM REGARDING THE PASSENGER FRONT WINDOW. REPLACEMENT OF THE AC EVAPORATOR, WATER PUMP, AND PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW ARE VERY EXPENSIVE IF THE WORK IS DONE AT THE DEALERSHIP. REPLACEMENT OF AC EVAPORATOR IS $1605, WATER PUMP APPROX $3800, WINDOW $520+. LEXUS SAID THAT I HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE WINDOW AND THAT THE CLIPS WERE NOT SOLD SEPARATELY WHEN I REPLACED THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW. TODAY (8/11), I TOOK MY CAR TO AN AUTO GLASS SHOP AND THEY FIXED MY PASSENGER WINDOW AND REPLACED THE CLIPS FOR ONLY $75. LEXUS IS DECEIVING A LOT OF PEOPLE WHICH IS THE REASON I WANT TO BRING THIS TO THE ATTENTION OF NHTSA. IT SEEMS LIKE A LOT OF THE ISSUES THAT I STATED ABOVE ARE RECURRING WITH OTHER OWNERS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 61,489.
THIS IS ABOUT THE REAR BRAKE PADS OF LEXUS E350 AND THE ETHICS OF LEXUS DEALER. I TOOK MY 2007 ES350 TO LEXUS DEALER FOR A RECALL JOB. WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR THE DEALER GAVE ME AN INSPECTION SHEET WHICH SHOWED THAT THE FRONT DISC PADS ARE 8MM THICK (REASONABLE FOR A 30,000 MILES CAR) WHILE THE REAR PADS HAD WORN DOWN TO 1MM ( DANGEROUSLY THIN). I ASKED THE DEALER WHETHER THE REPLACEMENT IS COVERED BY WARRANTY. THEY SAID EMPHATICALLY 'NO' AND OFFERED DECEIVING (EXTREMELY UNETHICAL) EXPLANATIONS AS TO WHY THIS HAPPENED. SUBSEQUENTLY I DISCOVERED THAT LEXUS HAS INFORMED ITS DEALERS, THROUGH A TECHNICAL BULLETIN, THAT PREMATURE FAILURE OF REAR BRAKE PADS HAVE OCCURRED IN E350 AND THESE PADS SHOULD BE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY WHEN CUSTOMER REQUESTS. THE SPECIFIC COMPLAINS ARE (1) MOST CARS' FRONT PADS WEAR MUCH FASTER THAN REAR ONES, AS A RESULT DRIVERS TEND TO INSPECT THE FRONT PADS MORE FREQUENTLY THAN THE REAR ONES. THIS CAN LEAD TO A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION LIKE WHAT I RAN INTO. LEXUS SHOULD ISSUE A NATIONWIDE RECALL TO FIX THE PROBLEMS. (2) LEXUS SHOULD POLICE ITS DEALER. THE DEALER SAID THE PROBLEM WAS THAT THE TRANSMISSION HAS A PROBLEM SHIFTING FROM 4TH TO FIRST GEAR .THE DEALER APPLIED SOME COMPUTER UPDATES. AFTERWARD, THE PROBLEM LURCHING WAS STILL THE SAME. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO LEXUS AND DUPLICATED THE PROBLEM WITH THEM AGAIN. THEY DID ANOTHER UPDATE BUT THE PROBLEM WAS STILL THE SAME. THE DEALER BROUGHT IN A TECH REP FROM LEXUS. THEY DECIDED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT SIGNIFICANT ENOUGH FOR THEM TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION OR THE COMPUTER THAT CONTROLS THE TRANSMISSION. I STILL HAVE THE SAME IRRITATING PROBLEM. ALTHOUGH THE CAR IS STILL UNDER THE CERTIFICATION WARRANTY, IT WILL RUN OUT SOON.
