WHILE DRIVING/IDLING DASHBOARD GOT TOO HOT. THIS CAUSED THE CD PLAYER TO BE INOPERATIVE. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
OWNER PARKED THE VEHICLE AND WALKED AWAY. BEFORE ACTUALLY LEAVING THE SCENE OWNER WAS ALERTED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS SMOKING. OWNER WENT TO THE VEHICLE , OPENED THE HOOD, AND VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE . THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED TO THE SCENE. AFTER THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED THE FIRE INVESTIGATOR STATED THE FIRE WAS ELECTRICAL. VEHICLE WAS TOTALED. A GM HAD REPRESENTATIVE CAME AND INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. NEITHER THE MANUFACTURER NOR DEALERSHIP CLAIMED ANY RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE DAMAGE. *AK ....THE VEHICLE'S PRIMARY ELECTRICAL WIRING AT BATTERY EXHIBITED NO EVIDENCE OF ELECTRICAL ACTIVITY OR MALFUNCTION. THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF A MALFUNCTION ASSOCIATED WITH FUEL INJECTION SYSTEM, NOR WAS THERE EVIDENCE OF A FUEL LINE LEAK. FIRE DEPARTMENT INVESTIGATOR, THEREFORE, CONCLUDED THAT FIRE WAS AN ACCIDENT, AND A RESULT OF NON-SPECIFIC ELECTRICAL FAIURE IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT. *AK
DT: ON DEC 27, 2004 THE CONSUMER HIT A MAJOR POT HOLE IN THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE'S RIM TWISTED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED AT THE CONSUMER'S EXPENSE. ON APRIL 19, 2005 THE TIRE BEGAN LOSING PRESSURE. THE CONSUMER'S HUSBAND CHECKED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE RIM HAD CRACKED. *NM *NM
CAR SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I WAS DRIVING ON HIGHWAY AT AROUND 55 MPH AND THE CAR SHUT OFF, LEAVING THE VEHICLE INOPERABLE WHILE STILL MOVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS IN TRAFFIC. CAR WAS PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND HAD TO BE PLACED BACK IN PARK AND THEN RESTARTED.*AK
VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE UNDER THE HOOD WITHIN FIVE MINUTES AFTER PARKING THE VEHICLE IN THE PARKING LOT. THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT ARRIVED TO EXTINGUISH THE FIRE. THE FIRE MARSHALL AND THE INSURANCE INVESTIGATOR CONFIRMED THAT THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE WAS AN ELECTRICAL SHORT. MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED. THE CONSUMER WAS WAITING FON AN INVESTIGATOR FROM THE MANUFACTURER.*AK
I BOUGHT THE CAR IN MARCH OF 04. IN DECEMBER OF 04 IT STARTED HAVING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS. WHENEVER THE LIGHTS AND THE HEAT AND THE REAR DEFROSTER WERE ON, THE CAR WOULD START STALLING AND TELL YOU "CHARGING SYSTEM FAILURE". THERE WAS ONE INCIDENT WHERE I WAS MERGING ON THE FREEWAY DURING RUSH HOUR AND THE CAR ACTUALLY STALLED OUT AND I HAD NO CONTROL WHATSOEVER. IT HAS BEEN IN THE SHOP AT LEAST SEVEN TIMES FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE CAR STALLS OUT WHENEVER YOU PUT IT INTO REVERSE, DRIVE BACKWARDS, STOP AND THEN SHIFT INTO DRIVE. IT HESITATES, CHIMES AND DISPLAYS "CHARGING SYSTEM FAILURE". AT ONE OCCASION, MY FIANCE TURNED ON THE FAN, AND THE WENT INTO A NOSE DIVE DUE TO THE ENGINE CUTTING OUT. BOTH OF US ENDED UP HAVING BAD SEAT-BELTS BURNS AND BRUISES FROM BEING THROWN FORWARD SO SUDDENLY. *NM
STEERING ON PONTIAC 2004 GRAND PRIX HAS POPPING NOISE. CAR HAS BEEN TO VISTA RIDGE PONTIAC IN CARROLLTON, TX 4 TIMES AND IT IS STILL NOT FIXED. I WAS TOLD IT WAS A NUISANCE NOISE. THEY TIGHTENED THE BOLTS. WHEN I BROUGHT THE CAR IN THE FOURTH TIME, THE SALESMAN WHO SOLD ME THE CAR TOLD ME THAT THEY DON'T BUILD THE CARS AND THAT PERHAPS THE PERSON THAT BUILT THE CAR "HAD A BAD DAY" OR WAS INEXPERIENCED. AT THE SUGGESTION OF GM CUSTOMER SERVICE, I AM GOING TO TAKE THE CAR TO ANOTHER DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. I AM APPALLED THAT AN EMPLOYEE OF A DEALERSHIP AND A REPRESENTATIVE OF GENERAL MOTORS WOULD TELL A CUSTOMER THAT. ESPECIALLY, AFTER I BOUGHT THREE CARS FROM THEM. I AM HESITANT TO PURCHASE OR LEASE ANOTHER GM PRODUCT AGAIN. *JB

ALL 2204 MODEL YEAR PONTIAC GRAND PRIX'S EXHIBITED UNUSUAL AND EXCESSIVE HEADLIGHT 'BOUNCING'. THERE ARE MANY OTHER REPORTED COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE. A MODEL YEAR RUNNING CHANGE WAS MADE TO THE 05 GRAND PRIX'S WHICH EFFECTED A PERMANENT FIX. THERE IS SUPPOSED TO BE A TSB ISSUED FOR PRIOR 05'S AND ALL 04'S BUT THIS BULLETIN HAS NOT YET BEEN RELEASED. THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND RESOLVED. I WOULD ARGUE IT'S A SAFETY ISSUE MERITING A RECALL. *JB
WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH IN RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN WITH NO WARNING AND WOULD NOT RE-START. I HAD NO BRAKES,POWER STEERING AND HAD TO CUT ACROSS TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC TO GET OFF ROADWAY. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AND REMAINED THEREFOR SEVEN DAYS. THE ACCERATER CABLE WAS REPLACED. ONE DAY AFTER GETTING THE CAR BACK THE SAME OCCURANCE HAPPENED AGAIN . WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 45 AND 50 MPH THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN ON A HIGHWAY AT NIGHT NEARLY CAUSING A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE CAR WAS RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP AND KEPT FOR ANOTHER SEVEN DAYS AND THE COMPUTER MODULE WAS REPLACED. AFTER HAVING THE CAR BACK FOR TWO DAYS, THE CAR COMPLETELY SHUT DOWN FOR A THIRD TIME. THIS TIME I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT AND NOT MOVING. THERE WAS NO WARNING THE CAR JUST STOPPED AND WHEN TRIED TO RE-START, EVERY SYSTEM WENT BLACK. THE CAR WAS AGAIN TOWED TO DEALERSHIP AND THE FUSE RELAY WAS REPLACED. THE ORIGINAL SHUT-DOWN HAPPED WITH LESS THAN 7000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP STATED THIS PROBLEM HAD NOT OCCURRED BEFORE ON THIS MAKE AND MODEL OF CAR AND THERE WAS A "CASE STUDY" BEING SET UP ON MY CAR. ON READING OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS CAR, I SEE THERE HAVE BEEN OTHER SIMILAR SHUT DOWNS ON THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL CAR. I HAVE HAD THE CAR BACK FOR 20 DAYS AND SO FAR NO FURTHER COMPLETE SHUT DOWNS HAVE OCCURRED BUT I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE IN THE CAR AND DRIVE IT ONLY WHEN ABSOUTELY NECESSARY AND DEFINITELY NOT ON EXPRESSWAYS OR MAJOR HIGHWAYS. WHEN I PICKED UP THE CAR THE THIRD TIME AND ASKED IT THEY THOUGHT IT WAS FIXED, THE ONLY ANSWER I RECEIVED IS "WE'RE DOING WHAT GM ENGINEERING TOLD US TO DO.*AK
I PURCHASED THE CAR IN AUGUST 2004. SEVERAL MONTHS AFTER THE PURCHASE I TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE I HEARD A CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE WHEN MAKING A RIGHT OR LEFT HAND TURN. AFTER THE CAR WAS SERVICED, THE DEALERSHIP EXPLAINED THAT GM IS WELL AWARE OF THE ISSUE (THE DEALERSHIP HAD RECEIVED A NOTICE FROM GM) BUT THAT A RECALL HAD NOT YET BEEN DONE ON THE VEHICLE FOR THIS ISSUE. THE DEALERSHIP SAID IT HAD TO DO WITH A MOUNT BRACKET THAT NEEDED BE TORQUED. IF THE BRACKET BECAME TOO LOOSE IT COULD SEPARATE CAUSING THE DRIVER TO LOOSE STEERING. I WAS NEVER TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PERIODICALLY TAKE THE VEHICLE BACK IN TO BE SERVICED FOR THIS BUT YET AGAIN SEVERAL MONTHS LATER I AM BEGINNING TO HEAR THE CLUNKING. THE STEERING ALSO SEEMS MUCH MORE LOOSE THAN IT PREVIOUSLY DID. I ALSO AM BEGINNING TO HEARING A CLICKING NOISE IN THE STEERING COLUMN, ALONG WITH THE CLUNK. I DO FEEL THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE THAT GM SHOULD DEFINITELY BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR. *JB
1) AFTER TURNING OFF A MAJOR ROAD INTO A RESIDENTIAL COMPLEX, THE CAR FIRST HESITATED, THEN I LOST POWER STEERING WHILE NAVIGATING A SHARP LEFT CURVE; AFTER TURNING THE CAR ON AND OFF TWICE, WAS ABLE TO REGAIN STEERING; SERVICE DEPARTMENT WAS UNABLE TO REPEAT THE PROBLEM NOR DETERMINE CAUSE; 2) ON 2 OCCASIONS PRIOR, I EXPERIENCED SEVERE HESITATION ON ACCELERATION--SEVERITY OF HESITATION SEEMED TO BE DIRECTLY RELATED TO RATE OF ACCELERATION (HESITATION MOST SEVERE AT HARD ACCELERATION); THE HESITATION CONTINUED EVERY TIME I DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR UNTIL THE CAR WAS TURNED OFF; WHEN THE CAR WAS RE-STARTED, THE PROBLEM WAS GONE; THESE 2 OCCURRENCES HAPPENED ABOUT 45 DAYS APART AND AGAIN ABOUT 30 DAYS LATER, PRIOR TO LOSS OF POWER STEERING DESCRIBED IN #1; SERVICE DEPARTMENT HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO REPEAT THE PROBLEM NOR DETERMINE POSSIBLE CAUSE; 3) NUISANCE PROBLEM--RECURRING SQUEAKING, AT TIMES SQUEALING, IN THE STEERING COLUMN WHEN TURNING AT LOW SPEEDS; ON ONE OCCURRENCE THERE WAS ALSO A RATTLING IN THE STEERING COLUMN; DEALER HAS LUBRICATED, RE-LUBRICATED, RE-INSTALLED COIL, REPLACED INTERMEDIATE SHAFT. *JB
WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE ENGINE DIED. A FEW MINUTES PRIOR TO THIS OCCURRING THE TRANSMISSION FELT LIKE THE GEARS WERE DROPPING. WHEN THE ENGINE DIED THE VEHICLE IMMEDIATELY LOST POWER STEERING. THE CONSUMER PULLED OFF THE ROAD, REMOVED THE KEYS FROM THE IGNITION, LET THE VEHICLE SIT FOR 10 SECONDS BEFORE RESTARTING. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED. THE DEALERSHIP WILL BE CONTACTED. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED BY OTHER GRAND PRIX OWNERS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES IN WHICH A CHIP HAS TO BE REPLACED. *JB
1) THE INTERMET CAST ALUMINUM STEERING KNUCKLE FAILED IN MY 2004 PONTIAC GRAN PRIX AT 26,000 MILES. I RECOLLECT HITTING 2 LARGE POTHOLES, ONE AT ABOUT 20,000 MILES, THE SECOND AT 25500 MILES AND THE KNUCKLE BROKE AFTER BUMPING A CURB AT A SPEED OF 28 MILES AN HOUR AT 26,000 MILES. ) WHEN THE STEERING KNUCKLE FAILED, THE HALF SHAFT CAME OUT, THE TIE ROD BENT, THE ALUMINUM RIM BROKE, AND THE MCPHERSON STRUT BENT. TOTAL COST FOR THE REPAIR WAS $3,500. I WAS LUCKY THAT I HIT A CURB AT A LOW SPEED. I WAS ABLE TO STILL STEER THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MODE I BELIEVE WAS IMPACT, RATHER THAN FATIGUE, WHICH COULD HAVE OCCURRED AT 70 MILES ON AN INTERSTATE. 3) GM WOULD NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE FAILURE AS IT WAS DUE TO COLLISION WITH A CURB. THIS VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AT COST TO THE COMPANY THAT I WORK FOR. *AK
I HAVE A 2004 GRAND PRIX, HORN ONLY SOUNDS ON A CERTAIN AREA OF WHEEL, AND THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE WHEN ANOTHER CAR JUMPS IN FRONT OF YOU. *NM
MY ACCIDENT HAPPENED ON A SUNNY DRY DAY. I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK DOING ABOUT 45 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME HAD HIT A CAR THAT WAS STOPPED FOR THE LIGHT. I WAS THE FOURTH CAR BACK AND HAD HEARD THE CRASH. I SLAMMED ON THE BRAKES AND THEY GRABBED AND THEN PROCEEDED TO JUST CONTINUE TO GO AND BASICALLY MY CAR HIT THE BACK OF A TRUCK CAUSING ABOUT $10,000 IN DAMAGE AND SENDING ME TO THE HOSPITAL. I HAD ENOUGH ROOM BEHIND THAT VEHICLE TO STOP. IT WAS LIKE THE PEDAL JUST WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I HAD NO BRAKES. I AM ALSO CONCERNED BECAUSE THE AIR BAG ALSO DID NOT DEPLOY. GM TOLD ME THAT IT'S BECAUSE THE BUMPERS DID NOT MEET WITH EACH OTHER. MORE LIES IF YOU ASK ME. I THINK THEY NEED TO HAVE THESE VEHICLES CHECKED BEFORE SOMEONE REALLY GET HURT BAD. THIS HAS COST ME MUCH GRIEF, LOSS OF WORK AND OUT OF POCKET MONEY.*AK
I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2004 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GTP. THE HEADLIGHTS "BOUNCE" AT NIGHT CREATING BAD GLARE AND REFLECTIONS FOR ONCOMING CARS. IT ALSO MAKES IT MORE DIFFICULT FOR ME TO SEE THE ROAD AND SIGNS PROPERLY. *AK
HORN DOES NOT WORK. DEALER EXAMINED THE VEHICLE AND HAD TO REPLACE THE STEERING PACKAGE. THEN, HORN WORKED. CURRENTLY, HORN IS DEFECTIVE AGAIN. *AK
THE HEADLIGHTS SHAKE ON THE 2004 GRAND PRIX AS A RESULT OF INSECURE MOUNTING. THE DEALER SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO, THE HEADLIGHTS ARE INSTALLED AS DESIGNED. I ALSO CONTACTED PONTIAC VIA E-MAIL, THEIR REPLY WAS THAT THIS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THE CAR. I DO NOT BELIEVE THIS IS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF ANY CAR AND IS A GRAVE DISTRACTION TO THE DRIVER AS WELL AS ONCOMING TRAFFIC!. *AK
WHILE DRIVING CONSUMER HEARD A CLICKING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL COLUMN. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
2004 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX, CLUNKING NOISE ON DRIVERS FRONT END WHEN YOU TURN THE WHEEL EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT. I WAS ADVISED YESTERDAY THAT GMC IS AWARE OF THIS DEFECT AND AT THIS TIME IS DOING NOTHING. THERE WAS A TECHNICAL BULLETION ISSUED ON 7/27/04 TO GMC/PONTAIC DEALERSHIPS. "DEFECT" CERTAIN PASSENGAR VEHICLES HAVE A CONDITION WHERE THE FRONT FRAM REAR BODY MOUNT BRACKET MAY FRACTURE AND DEGRADE TO THE POINT WHERE THE INTERMEDICATE STEERING SHAFT COULD SEPARATE, RESULTING IN LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL, WHICH INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH. THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT. I HAVE SPOKEN WITH PONTIAC, GMC, AND THE LOCAL GMC DEALERSHIP AND GOTTEN NOTHING BUT THE RUN AROUND! IF YOU VIEW A WEBSITE CALLED "MYCARSTATS.COM THERE ARE COMSUMER COMPLAINTS ON THE STEERING COLUMN. I GUESS SOMEONE HAS TO BE KILLED BEFORE GMC ACKNOWLEDGES THIS DEFECT. WHEN BACKING AND TURNING LEFT FROM BEING PARKED ON LEVEL ASPHALT, THE STEERING WHEEL REPOSITIONED ITSELF ABOUT 20 DEGREES. *NM WHEN THE INCIDENT OCCURRED THE ENGINE PULLED AND THE STEERING BECAME MOMENTARILY STIFF. *JB
HEADLIGHTS BOUNCE. NHTSA COMPLAINT NUMBER: 10079160. CAR JUST PURCHASED ON 31-AUG-2004. THIS SHOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED BEFORE I DROVE IT OFF THE LOT. *AK
I PURCHASED A 2004 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GTP COMP G FROM RYDELL AUTOMOTIVE (VAN NUYS, CA) ON OCTOBER 24, 2004. IN MAY 2004 THE POWER STEERING HOSE HAD TO BE REPLACED DUE TO A FLUID LEAK. AUGUST 23, 2004 I HAD THE 30,000 MILE SERVICE PERFORMED (I HAVE A LONG COMMUTE), AND THAT INCLUDED A SERVICE OF THE POWER STEERING SYSTEM. AUGUST 31, 2004 WHILE MAKING A THREE POINT TURN IN A PARKING LOT, I HEARD A LOUD POP AND LOST THE ABILITY TO CONTROL THE STEERING OF THE VEHICLE. WHITE SMOKE POURED OUT FROM UNDER THE HOOD AND FILLED THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT (THE A/C WAS ON). I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND OPENED THE HOOD TO SEE THE ENGINE ON FIRE. THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED BY SEVERAL LARGE BOTTLES OF WATER AND THE ASSISTANCE OF A PASSERBY. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE RYDELL DEALER IN SAN FERNANDO WHERE IT REMAINS UN-REPAIRED. THE GM FACTORY REPRESENTATIVE WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE SAID I SHOULD SUBMIT A CLAIM WITH MY INSURANCE, EVEN THOUGH I AM CLEARLY WITHIN THE WARRANTY PERIOD. CURRENTLY NEGOTIATING WITH THE DEALERSHIP DIRECTLY AND I AM REQUESTING A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE SINCE I FEEL THE PROBLEM COULD RECUR. *AK
A CLUNKING NOISE RECENTLY APPEARED IN THE STEERING WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT. MAINLY NOTICED AT HIGHER SPEEDS WHEN TURNING SLIGHTLY (1/8TH STEERING WHEEL TURN) OR AT LOW SPEEDS AND TURNING SHARPLY. SOMETHING FEELS LOOSE IN THE STEERING SYSTEM.*AK
I HAVE AN ONGOING AND UNRESOLVED ISSUE WITH THE BRAKES ON MY 2004 GRAND PRIX. THE BRAKES HAVE SQUEAKED WHEN STOPPING SINCE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED IN AUGUST 2004. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP SEVERAL TIMES FOR SERVICE. INITIALLY THE ROTORS WERE RESURFACED AND THE BRAKE PADS REPLACED. AFTER ABOUT 500-1000 MILES THE BRAKES BEGIN TO SQUEEK AGAIN. AFTER A CALL TO PONTIAC BY MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP, THEY WERE TOLD THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT HAVE NO RESOLUTION. SINCE THAT TIME THE DEALERSHIP HAS COMPLETELY REPLACED THE BRAKES AND ROTERS AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS, SQUEEKING WHEN STOPPING ABOUT 70% OF THE TIME. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE DESIGN DEFECT RESULTS IN A SAFETY ISSUE IN THE BRAKES PERFORMANCE.*AK
TWICE NOW THE COMPUTER MODULE HAS FAILED ON MY 2004 GRAND PRIX. THE FIRST TIME (WHEN THE CAR WAS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD WITH AROUND 15,000 MILES) THE FAN TO THE AIR CONDITIONER WOULD NOT SHUT OFF WHEN SWITCH TURNED OFF. ATTEMPTS WERE MADE TO PULL FUSES CONNECTED TO THE SYSTEM BUT THE FAN CONTINUED ON EVEN WITH THE KEY OUT OF THE IGNITION. THE BATTERY HAD TO BE DISCONNECTED TO PREVENT COMPLETELY RUNNING THE BATTERY DEAD. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND AFTER THEM HAVING THE CAR FOR ABOUT A WEEK THEY RETURNED IT TO ME. STATING, "THE COMPUTER MODULE WAS BAD AND HAD MALFUNCTIONED. THERE WAS OVER A TWO WEEK WAITING PERIOD TO GET A NEW COMPUTER MODULE FROM THE FACTORY, SO WE PULLED ONE OUT OF A CAR OFF OF THE LOT." NOW, LESS THAN A YEAR LATER (10 MONTHS LATER TO BE EXACT) THE SAME EXACT THING HAS HAPPENED. THE FAN TURNED ON THIS TIME BY ITSELF. AGAIN THE ONLY WAY TO SHUT IT OFF WAS TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY. THE CAR HAS ABOUT 30,000 MILES ON IT NOW.
I HAVE HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THIS VEHICLE SINCE I PURCHASED IT. MOST PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN DIRECTLY RELATED TO WIRING PROBLEMS AND ELECTRICAL FAILURE. THE LATEST INCIDENCE I LOST POWER ON THE HIGHWAY AND HAD NO STEERING OR BRAKES. THE CAR WAS TOWED AND THE SHOP HAD TO REPLACE THE IP CLUSTER AND THE BCM WHICH HAD BOTH COMPLETELY FAILED. THIS FAILURE CAUSED ME TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS LEAVING THE ROAD AND EVENTUALLY BECOMING BURIED IN THE MEDIAN. IF THIS INCIDENCE HAD OCCURED AT ANY OTHER SECTION OF THIS MAIN THOROUGHFARE (I-40) ME AND MY 5 YR OLD COULD HAVE BEEN SEVERELY HURT OR KILLED.*AK
UPON COLD STARTUP VEHICLE WILL STALL, HESITATE OR SURGE UPON THE FIRST PRESS OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. COMPUTER HAS BEEN REPLACED AND REPROGRAMMED ON PRIOR ATTEMPTS ALONG WITH NEW THROTTLE BODIES AND STALLING NO LONGER PRESENT, BUT HESITATION AND SURGING ARE STILL PRESENT. SERVICE ENGINE SOON LAMP HAS STARTED ILLUMINATING. CODE IS P0452 FOR THE FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR. ACCORDING TO A GM ADMINISTRATIVE MESSAGE TO DEALERS ON 4/2/04, "DEALERS ARE ADVISED TO ORDER FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR P/N 16238399 INSTEAD OF P/N 09377680. FUEL TANK PRESSURE SENSOR P/N 09377680 HAS PROVED TO BE UNRELIABLE AND IT IS LIKELY TO FAIL AGAIN SHORTLY AFTER INSTALLATION. PRODUCTION CHANGE TO USE P/N 16238399 IS SCHEDULED FOR MID-APRIL." MY COMPLAINT IS NOT SPECIFICALLY ABOUT A CAR - IT IS MONR ABOUT THE COMPANY THAT RENTED ME THE CAR. MONDAY, AUG 2, I RENTED A 2004 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX FROM AVIS AT THE BALTIMORE WASHINGTON INTERNATIONAL (BWI) AIRPORT. WHILE DRIVING TO WORK ON THE NORTHBOUND FAIRFAX COUNTY PARKWAY ON THE MORNING OF AUG 3 (NORMAL WEATHER CONDIDTIONS), I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES (SOMEWHAT HARD). THE WHEELS ON THE CAR IMMEDIATELY LOCKED UP AND THE CAR BEGAN TO SPIN TOWARDS THE RIGHT. THE CAR DID A FULL 180 TURN THROUGH 2 LANES OF TRAFFIC LANDING ON THE SHOULDER, W FRACTION OF AN INCH AWAY FROM THE GUARDRAIL. *AK I WAS EXTREMELY LUCKY. I DID NOT HIT ANOTHER CAR, OR GET HIT BY A CAR OR EVEN SMASH INTO THE GUARDRAIL. NO DAMAGE WAS DONE TO THE CAR AND I WAS NOT INJURED. WHEN I RETURNED THE CAR TO AVIS (BECAUSE I NO LONGER FELT SAFE DRIVING IT) THE EMPLYEE BEHIND THE COUNTER MENTIONED SOMETHING ABOUT A BRAKE RECALL AND WONDERED IF IT WAS THAT MAKE AND MODEL. I FOUND THE RECALL VIA YOUR WEBSITE THIS MORNING. APPARENTLY MY ACCIDENT IS THE EXACT CONSEQUENSE OF NOT GETTING THE RECALL FIXED. I'M APPALLED THAT AVIS RENTED ME A CAR THAT THEY KNEW HAD PROBLEMS AND WAS BEING RECALLED. I WANT TO MAKE SURE THIS DOESN'T HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE. I'M SURE THAT AVIS HAS HUNDREDS OF 2004 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX'S IN THEIR FLEET, SO THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE REMEDIED IMMEDIATELY. I DON'T REALLY KNOW WHOSE ATTENTION I SHOULD BRING THIS TOO, BUT I CANNOT IMAGINE ANYONE ELSE ENCOUNTERING THIS INCIDENT AND BEING AS LUCKY AS I WAS TO WALK AWAY UNSCATHED. WE JUST PURCHASED 2004 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX GT 2 HAS A HORRIBLE SEMI-CIRCULAR MIRROR LIKE REFLECTION FROM EACH LOWER CORNER OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL RIGHT INTO OUR EYES MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO HANDLE THE VEHICLE. IT OCCURS FROM 11AM TO 2 PM FROM THE OVERHEAD SUN. *JB
WHILE DRIVING DOWN ROAD, SMOKE STARTED TO COME OUT FROM CENTER OF DASH, PULLED VEHICLE OVER AND TURNED OFF IGNITION, EXITED DRIVERS SIDE AND PROCEEDED TO PASSENGER FRONT TO INSPECT UNDER DASH, WHEN GOT TO PASSENGER SIDE (10 SECONDS FROM DRIVER SIDE) COULD SEE FIRE UNDER DASH AND PLASTIC DRIPPING FROM UNDER DASH, GOT AWAY FROM VEHICLE, AND WITHIN APPROXIMATELY 2 MINUTES ENTIRE INTERIOR OF VEHICLE WAS ENGULFED BY FLAMES. I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT WITH HEADLIGHTS ON/ NO FOG/S, AND ONLY HAD FAN BLOWING OUTSIDE AIR IN, NO OTHER ELECTRICAL ACCESSORIES RUNNING, SUCH AS RADIO, INTERIOR LIGHTS). VEHICLE IS COMPLETE LOSS, AND FIREMAN SAYS THIS WAS WORST CAR FIRE HE HAD EVER SEEN FOR SHORT AMOUNT OF TIME VEHICLE WAS ON FIRE. SO FAR INSURANCE COMPANY IS INVESTIGATING, BUT INDICATIONS SHOW ELECTRICAL FIRE POSSIBLY FROM IGNITION SWITCH, WHICH HAPPENS TO BE IN DASH BY HEATER CONTROLS. NO INJURIES OCCURRED W/ VEHICLE FIRE, VERY HAPPY THAT SEAT BELT DID NOT FAIL/STICK. ONLY HAD VEHICLE FOR 5 MONTHS, BOUGHT NEW AT PONTIAC DEALER, 5600 MILES. STEERING BECAME LOOSE AND SLOPPY. KNUCKLING AND CLUNKING NOISES FROM STEERING WHEN WHEEL TURNED FROM SIDE TO SIDE. UPON TURNING LEFT, CAR WOULD DRAMATICALLY UNDERSTEER, THEN SUDDENLY OVERSTEER, RESULTING IN LOSS OF CONTROL OF VEHICLE.*AK . TAKEN TO CROWN PONTIAC IN ST. PETERSBURG, FL. THEY DIAGNOSED "LOOSE RACK AND PINION RETAINING BOLTS AND BUSHINGS". FIX: RE-TORQUED BOLTS. . CONDITION RECURRRED WITHIN 3 DAYS. . CALLED GM, WHO SENT REGIONAL REPRESENTATIVE TO DRIVE VEHICLE. I ASKED THEM WHY BOLTS WOULD WORK LOOSE AFTER 10K MILES, AND WHY THEY DIDN'T REPLACE THE BOLTS, OR THEY MAY WORK LOOSE AGAIN. . THEY SAID "IT DEPENDS ON HOW THEY TORQUED THEM" . VEHICLE PRESENTLY IN SERVICE FOR STEERING CONTROL ISSUES FOR SECOND TIME. . THIS CONDITION IS UNSAFE. VEHICLE WILL NOT HOLD A STRAIGHT LINE DOWN THE ROAD, AND WHEN TURNING EITHER RIGHT OR LEFT, THE VEHICLE WILL TAKE-OFF IN THAT DIRECTION AND IF NOT CORRECTED, WILL TURN IN A CIRCLE IF NOT CORRECTED BY HARD STEERING IN OPPOSITE DIRECTION.

I UNLATCH THE FRONT HOOD BUT DON'T OPEN IT. LUCKILY I HAD A FIRE EXTINGUISHER IN REAR TRUNK. I SPRAY EXTINGUISHER UNDER FRONT HOOD AND PUT OUT FIRE. I DISCONNECTED BATTERY TO MAKE SURE FIRE DOESN'T RESTART. CAR WAS TOWED TO DEALER (FITZGERALD, ROCKVILLE MARYLAND) WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED. SERVICE SAYS THAT IT WAS POWER STEERING HOSE AND THE STEERING FLUID CAUGHT FIRE. SERVICE SAYS THIS DAMAGE IS COVERED BY WARRANTY. SERVICE IS STILL WAITING FOR REPLACEMENT PARTS AS OF JULY 8, 2004.
