I OWN A 2006 SATURN ION 3. OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS I HAVE HAD THE CAR NOT START ONLY AN HOUR LATER TO TRY AND IT DID. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH AND HAVE FOUND MANY PEOPLE HAVE AND ARE HAVING THIS SAME PROBLEM. WHEN I SPOKE WITH THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I BOUGHT THE CAR THEY HADN'T HEARD OF THIS. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR YEARS AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE. THE SAFETY ISSUE WITH IS MY WIFE HAS BEEN STUCK AT WORK AT 3AM WITH THE CAR NOT STARTING BY HERSELF. WE (ION) OWNERS NEED HELP WITH THIS SINCE THE MAKER OF THIS CAR ISN'T DOING ANYTHING. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 SATURN ION WHEN THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING WENT OUT. THERE WAS NO WARNING - THE INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON AND THE POWER STEERING WAS GONE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND THEY SAID IT IS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM AND THE STEERING COLUMN WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS A $900 REPAIR SINCE THE CAR IS JUST OUT OF WARRANTY. THERE ARE SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS RELATED TO THIS SAME PROBLEM. THE WOMAN AT THE DEALER SAYS SHE HAS SEEN THIS SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE AND THAT IF YOU TURN OFF THE CAR IT RESETS THE POWER STEERING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL, AND THEN THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED AT AN EXPENSE OF $950.00 THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 96,000.
ON THE AFTERNOON OF SEPT. 17TH I WAS RUNNING ERRANDS IN MY 2006 ION. I STOPPED AT A STORE AND WAS UNABLE TO TURN OF MY CAR. THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN IN THE IGNITION AT ALL AND THE KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION. THERE WAS NO WARNING AND I HAVE HAD NO PREVIOUS ISSUES WITH THE IGNITION. I TOOK MY VEHICLE DIRECTLY TO THE SATURN DEALERSHIP TO FIND OUT WHAT THE ISSUE WAS. IT TURNED OUT THAT I NEEDED A NEW IGNITION LOCK AND KEY. I PAID THE APPROX. 200 DOLLARS TO HAVE THIS REPAIR COMPLETED. I RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE AND FOUND OUT THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON ISSUE AND THAT SATURN IS DOING NOTHING TO REMEDY THIS ISSUE. *TR
ARRIVED HOME AFTER WORK AND AS USUAL WENT TO TURN OFF CAR WHEN THE IGNITION KEY WOULD NOT TURN TO OFF POSITION. THE IGNITION SYSTEM WOULD NOT WORK. I CALLED THE ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE AND WAS WALKED THRU THE PROCESS TO DISABLE CAR BY DISCONNECTING FUSE UNDER HOOD. I LATER HAD TO PAY FOR THE IGNITION SYSTEM TO BE REPLACED. EXTREMELY FRUSTRATING SINCE MY CAR WAS LESS THAN 3 YEARS OLD AT THE TIME. I HAD PURCHASED THE CAR BRAND NEW BACK IN MARCH 2006. *TR
2006 SATURN ION. ENGINE SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING REGARDLESS OF SPEED OR OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE. THIS PAST SUNDAY, I WAS ON THE FREEWAY AND THE ENGINE SHUT OFF WHILE MY CAR WAS MAKING A SLIGHT RIGHT MERGING ONTO A NEW FREEWAY. IF IT WASN'T FOR MY FATHERS ADVICE ,MY QUICK ACTIONS AND AWARE DRIVERS AROUND ME, I WOULD HAVE FLOWN OFF THE FREEWAY. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO MANY SHOPS AND NOT ONE CAN FIND THE PROBLEM NOR FIX IT. NO RECALLS SO FAR HAVE BEEN ISSUED AND AS FAR AS SATURN IS CONCERNED, NO OTHER CAR HAS HAD THIS ISSUE. BEING A PREGNANT WOMAN, THIS MAKES ME EXTREMELY NERVOUS AND IN FEAR TO DRIVE MY CAR. I HAVE CALLED MANY SATURN DEALERSHIPS THAT HAVE ALL TAKEN THIS ISSUE LIGHTLY. THIS ISSUE FIRST OCCURRED IN JANUARY OF 2009 AND NOT AGAIN UNTIL AUGUST OF 2009 AND HAS HAPPENED ABOUT ONCE A WEEK SINCE THEN. NO ENGINE SIGNS ARE ISSUED OR IS THERE ANYTHING LEADING UP TO THE ISSUE. THE CAR JUST BASICALLY SHUTS OFF AS IF THE KEY WAS BEING TURNED. THE BATTERY STAYS SO I KNOW THAT IS NOT THE ISSUE. I AM IN FEAR OF MY SAFETY AS WELL AS THE SAFETY OF OTHER DRIVERS. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. HE STATED THAT INTERMITTENTLY THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL, AND THEN HE LOST POWER STEERING. AS A CONSEQUENCE HE EXPERIENCED DIFFICULTY WHILE STEERING. OCCASIONALLY HE CAN RESTART THE VEHICLE AND RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED; HOWEVER, NO REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE. THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 62,453.
I OWN A 2006 SATURN ION AND MY KEY WON'T TURN TO THE OFF POSITION. I LOOKED IT UP ON THE INTERNET AND APPARENTLY THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM I FOUND HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS HAPPENING TO THE 2006 ION 2. I HAVE A NEW BORN AND WHAT WOULD OF HAPPENED IF THE WHEEL WOULD LOCKED UP WILL I WAS DRIVING WITH HER OR MY OTHER THREE KIDS. I CALLED SATURN AND THEY SAID THIS HAPPENS OFTEN BUT WHY HAS THIS NOT BEEN RECALLED OR THE POTENTIAL BUYERS WARNED ABOUT THIS. *TR
I HAVE BEEN HAVING STARTING PROBLEMS WITH MY CAR (2006 SATURN ION) AND SMELLING GASOLINE. IT TURNS OUT THE HOSE CONNECTED TO THE FUEL PUMP WAS CRACKED AND LEAKING GAS. THE MECHANIC SAID THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE RECALLED. HE FEELS THAT THE ONE HOSE IS NOT CONNECTED AND HARNESSED PROPERLY AND THE VIBRATION TO THE HOSE EVENTUALLY CAUSED THE CRACK. I GOOGLED "SATURN 2006 ION FUEL LEAK" AND SEVERAL OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUE. WHAT IS ALSO THE MAJOR PROBLEM HERE IS THAT THE HOSE IS CONFIGURED WITH THE FUEL PUMP ITSELF. SO, THE ENTIRE MECHANISM HAD TO BE REPLACED. IT COST ME 700.00 FOR A CRACKED HOSE BECAUSE THE FUEL PUMP HAD TO BE REPLACED AND MY CAR ONLY IS 46,000 MILES. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. I DROVE FOR 2 WEEKS WITH A CAR THAT WAS LEAKING FUEL. SATURN MUST KNOW ABOUT THIS AND IS WAITING FOR THE SAME SITUATION TO HAPPEN, BUT FOR THE CAR TO BLOW UP INSTEAD. *TR
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING WENT OUT IN THE CAR. AT FIRST IT WOULD GO OUT SPORADICALLY, BUT NOW IT GOES OUT WITHIN ONE MINUTE OF DRIVING THE CAR. IT ALWAYS GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING, SOMETIMES WHILE IN TURNS. IT CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO BE DIFFICULT TO MANEUVER. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP, AND SINCE THE POWER STEERING WENT OUT AT AROUND 64,000 MILES, THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY WOULD NOT FIX IT. THEY STATED THAT TO FIX THE PROBLEM, THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN WOULD NEED REPLACED, AND ESTIMATED COST AROUND $900. *TR
EMISSIONS LIGHT WOULD COME ON, SMELL OF GASOLINE, CAR WOULD SUDDENLY REDUCE TO HALF POWER WHILE DRIVING. WOULD HAVE TO PULL OVER AND GET OUT, REMOVE THE GAS CAP, LET THE FUMES OUT, AND CAR WOULD RESTORE TO NORMAL POWER. THIS WENT ON FOR A YEAR AND ONE HALF. SATURN AGENCY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM. FINALLY SATURN DID SOME SORT OF BYPASS AND PROBLEM CEASED BUT CAR DROVE SLUGGISHLY. FEW MONTHS PASSED WITHOUT ANY PROBLEM.TWO WEEKS AGO STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE. THE FUEL PUMP WAS LEAKING AND WAS REPLACED. CAR HAS SIGNIFICANTLY MORE POWER WITH NEW FUEL PUMP HOWEVER THIS WEEK THE EMISSIONS LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND HAS STAYED ON BUT NO LOSS OF POWER EXPERIENCED AS OF YET. SLIGHT ODOR OF GASOLINE AGAIN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, THE CONTACT SMELLED A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO A CRACK IN THE FUEL TANK LINE. THE FUEL PUMP WAS REPLACED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE CONTACT HAD CONCERNS OF A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,200 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,595. UPDATED 12/07/09. *LJ THE DEALER ALSO FIXED THE FRONT WINDOW THAT HAD DROPPED INTO THE DOOR, A CRACKED SPEAKER AND DOME LIGHT. UPDATED 12/08/09.*JB
LOST STEERING CONTROL OF MY 2006 SATURN ION. THE ELECTRONIC POWER ASSIST MOTOR WAS DEFECTIVE. THIS CAR HAS THE SAME STEERING ESC AS THE CHEVY COBALT. SATURN ION NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED AS WELL. THE MOTOR WAS REPLACED AT MY COST OF $532.00. I WAS WITHOUT A CAR FOR 2 WEEKS WHILE A NEW MOTOR WAS FOUND. THIS NEEDS INVESTIGATING AND PERHAPS BE PART OF A RECALL. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION 3. WHILE PARKED SHE SMELLED A STRONG ODOR OF FUEL INSIDE AND OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE FUEL PUMP LINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE FUEL PUMP. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,200. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,778.
STEERING COLUMN MALFUNCTION. POWER STEERING LIGHT FLASHES AND DINGS AND POWER STEERING QUITS WORKING. HAVE TO TURN OFF VEHICLE FOR LIGHT TO GO OFF AND FOR POWER STEERING TO RESET SELF
2006 SATURN ION NEVER WRECKED IGNITION SWITCH STOPPED WORKING CORRECTLY, AND THE KEY GOT STUCK IN THE IGNITION RESULTING IN HAVING THE CAR LEFT RUNNING UNTIL THE CAR WAS CUT OFF BY PULLING THE CABLES OFF OF THE BATTERY POSTS. WAS TOLD THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS RUSTED AND THE SPRING IN THE SWITCH HAD BROKEN AND HAD GONE BAD BY A MECHANIC AND HAD TO HAVE THE IGNITION SWITCH REPLACED AND KEY RECODED. *TR
ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING FAILURE ON A 2006 SATURN ION. THE SYSTEM FAILS WITHIN 5 SECONDS OF STARTING THE VEHICLE AND NEVER WORKS AND A MESSAGE ON THE DASH CONFIRMS THE FAILURE. GM RECALLED THE CHEVY COBALT FOR THE SAME ISSUE BUT NOT THE ION, WHICH DOESN'T MAKE ANY SENSE. *TR

2006 SATURN ION, MILEAGE 50,000. IGNITION KEY WILL NOT TURN OFF. DEALERS NOR SATURN ACCEPTING RESPONSIBILITY. PERVASIVE PROBLEM, COMPLAINTS AND NO ACTION. COSTLY REPAIR BILLS, LOSS OF INCOME FROM LOST TIME AT WORK. IMMINENT SAFETY HAZARD. RECALL ACTION SHOULD NEVER BE INITIATED ONLY AFTER A DISASTER OCCURS. *TR
CAR WOULD NOT TURN OFF WHEN I PARKED IN MY DRIVE WAY, GM TOOK 1 HR AD 1/2 TO COME TO MY HOUSE. FORTUNATE IT DID NOT HAPPEN ON THE ROAD. NHTSA AND GM KNEW OF THIS RECALL BEFORE IT HAPPENED TO ME. WHY DID THE NHTSA NOT REPORT THIS? I PAID FOR THE REPAIR NOT KNOWING OF THE RECALL. THE MEDIA MADE ME AWARE AND I GOT A REFUND MUCH LATER. MY CAR IS ON ITS 6TH RECALL. 2 ARE PENDING. AGAIN I FOUND OUT FROM THE MEDIA. I CALLED GM, THEY ARE TAKING THEIR TIME IN THESE REPAIRS. I CALLED GM ON 3-18-14 ABOUT THESE 2 CURRENT RECALLS, I FEEL THEY ARE PUTTING ME ON THE BACK BURNER TO REPAIR THEM. HOW MANY RECALLS CAN 1 CAR HAVE BEFORE ITS CONSIDERED UNSAFE??? WHAT ARE MY RIGHTS? IS THIS CAR A LEMON OR JUST AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN/???? YOUR SITE SAYS THERE'S ANOTHER RECALL FOR MY CAR FOR THE HEAD LIGHTS. THAT WILL MAKE A 7TH RECALL. HAD TO DRIVE 35 MILES HOME HAVE SOMEONE GET THE CAR TAKE TO MECHANIC TO DISABLE AS SAFETY TURNOFF DID NOT RESOLVE ISSUE ACTUALLY GOT SHOCKED TRYING IT,TOOK TO SATURN DEALER IN DAYTONA BCH,FL WHERE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW WAS TOLD IGNITION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AS IT WAS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR THEN WAS INFORMED THEY COULD NOT REMOVE KEY SO THEY HAD TO BREAK HOUSING UNIT 500 + DOLLARS LATER.FILED COMPLAINT AFTER SEVERAL CALLS AND BEING BRUSHED OF OFFERED ME A LIMITED WARRANTY OIL CHANGES,TIRES ROTATED,RENTAL CAR IF SAME PROBLEM OCCURS AGAIN THAT WAS LESS THEN 6 MONTHS AGO,NOW CAR WILL NOT START IGNITION STICKS WITH KEY IN OFF POSITION STARTER ENGAGES,NIGHTMARE. *TR
2006 SATURN ION. IN AUGUST 2009 I WENT TO TURN OFF MY CAR AND THE KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT OF THE IGNITION SWITCH. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES OF TRYING THE KEY CAME OUT OF THE SWITCH, BUT THE CAR WAS STILL ON. VERY DANGEROUS FOR A CAR TO BE ABLE TO LEFT RUNNING WITH NO KEY IN IT. TOOK TO THE SATURN DEALERSHIP WHO TOLD ME THAT EVEN THOUGH THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM, I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $370 FOR COST OF PARTS AND LABOR. LESS THAN 3 MONTHS AFTER BEING FIXED, MY KEY IS STARTING TO STICK IN THE IGNITION AGAIN AND THIS PROBLEM WILL PROBABLY REPEAT ITSELF AGAIN SOON. *TR
POWER STEERING ON 2006 SATURN ION 3 RANDOMLY SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. IT HAPPENS AT UNSUSPECTED TIMES, AND DRIVERS ARE NOT PREPARED FOR HOW HARD IT IS TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL. I HAVE NOT HAD AN ACCIDENT AS OF YET BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM, BUT IT NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED. DURING INTERNET RESEARCH, I FOUND THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH THE SATURN ION MODELS. A 16 YEAR OLD IS NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO CONTROL THE CAR IF THIS HAPPENS TO THEM. *TR
FUEL LEAK DUE TO FAILED FUEL PUMP SEALS. FUEL PUMP DIDN'T FAIL, BUT THE SEAL FAILED. HAD TO REPLACE THE COMPLETE FUEL PUMP AND ASSEMBLE. FUEL WAS LEAKING FROM THE FUEL TANK ALONG WITH GAS FUMES AROUND CAR. NONE DEALER MECH. STATED THAT THE SEAL SHOULDN'T FAIL. ALSO NONE DEALER MECH STATED THE CAR WAS A BOMB ON 4 WHEELS. *TR
THE POWER STEERING KEEPS GOING OUT IN THE CAR. WHEN THIS HAPPENS IT BECOMES VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. IT FIRST STARTED ONCE EVERY COUPLE OF DAYS. NOW IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME I TURN IT ON AND DRIVE MORE THEN 100 YARDS. L HAVE CONTACT THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY HAVE TOLD ME THAT THERE IS NO RECALL FOR IT. BUT I HAVE LOOKED ONLINE AND NUMEROUS PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS ISSUE. THE CAR IS A LEASE AND THEY SAID I AM OVER MY WARRANTY EVEN THOUGH I ONLY HAVE 36,000 MILES IN 5 YEARS. *TR
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING UNIT WILL INTERMITTENTLY GO OUT, CAUSING IMMEDIATE LOSS OF POWER STEERING. SOMETIMES THE PROBLEM WILL OCCUR JUST AFTER STARTING THE CAR, SOMETIMES IT WILL WAIT UNTIL AFTER 30 MINUTES OF CONTINUOUS DRIVING. IT USUALLY HAPPENS AFTER A TURN, BUT HAS HAPPENED IN THE MIDDLE OF A TURN, ALMOST PUTTING ME INTO A WALL ON THE FREEWAY ON-RAMP. DEALER SAYS STEERING COLUMN NEEDS REPLACED, WITH EXPENSIVE PARTS, AND MORE EXPENSIVE LABOR CHARGES. *TR
VEHICLE STALLS FROM UNWANTED KEY CYLINDER ROTATION. KEY CYLINDER ROTATES DUE TO TILT STEERING WHEEL ADJUSTMENT. HAS OCCURRED WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. CAN REPRODUCE EASILY WHILE VEHICLE IS IN PARK. NOTHING DONE TO CORRECT. DEALER INDICATED A BULLETIN EXISTS TELLING CUSTOMERS TO NOT ADD OTHER ITEMS TO KEYRING SINCE EXTRA MASS ON KEYRING MAKES THE FAILURE MORE LIKELY. *TR
WHILE ENTERING THE HIGHWAY ON A CURVED RAMP THE POWER STEERING SUDDENLY AND COMPLETELY WENT OUT. IT WAS VERY VERY HARD TO STEER. AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING IT THE POWER STEERING STARTING WORKING AGAIN. AFTER DRIVING THE CAR A SHORT DISTANCE, AGAIN SUDDENLY NO POWER STEERING. EVERY TIME THE CAR IS TURNED OFF IT RESETS THE POWER STEERING. IT WILL GO OUT ANYTIME, ANYWHERE AND IN ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. THIS SHOULD BE COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE BY THE SATURN MANUFACTURER. WILL PEOPLE HAVE TO DIE BEFORE A RECALL IS ISSUED TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM? I BET IF THE CEO OF SATURN/GM OWNED A CAR WITH THIS PROBLEM AND HIS WIFE,DAUGHTER,SON OR MOTHER WAS DRIVING IT, A RECALL WOULD BE DONE IMMEDIATELY. THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED YET. THE COST OF REPAIR IS OVER $1000.00 FOR PARTS AND LABOR. HOW CONVENIENT FOR THE DEALER TO MAKE MONEY FROM A POSSIBLE DEADLY SITUATION. *TR
ELECTRIC POWER STEERING HAS BEEN INTERMITTENT FINALLY WENT OUT COMPLETELY. SMELL OF GAS AT BACK OF CAR ON PASSENGER SIDE. TOOK VEHICLE TO HAVE OIL CHANGED AND THEY FOUND GASOLINE LEAKING. SATURN DEALERSHIP POINTED OUT ONE OF THE FUEL LINES HAD CRACKED. I BOUGHT THE CAR 2 MONTHS BEFORE THE PROBLEM WAS DISCOVERED. HAD TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE FUEL PUMP ASSEMBLY. THIS WAS A RECALL ON THE 2004 ION. DID THEY REALLY FIX THE PROBLEM FROM THE 2004 OR DOES THE 2006 HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. *TR PHONE INTERVIEW (AUGUST 4, 2009): THE COMPLAINANT INDICATED THAT THE FUEL TANK HAD NOT BEEN REMOVED PREVIOUSLY AS FAR AS SHE KNOWS. THE REPAIR INVOICE INDICATES THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS LEAKING AND WAS REPLACED.

2006 SATURN ION POWER STEERING WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING 70MPH ON THE HIGHWAY. CAUSED DRIVER TO VEER ACROSS 4 LANES OF TRAFFIC AND ALMOST INTO THE CEMENT MEDIAN WALL. HAS NOT RECURRED SINCE THAT DAY BUT THERE WERE 4 INCIDENTS IN ONE DAY. SEEMS TO BE FINE AT SLOWER SPEEDS. TOOK VEHICLE TO SATURN DEALERSHIP AND TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. TOOK VEHICLE TO ANOTHER REPAIR SHOP AND WAS TOLD NOT TO PLUG EXTERNAL ELECTRIC DEVICES INTO THE POWER SOURCE IN THE CAR, SUCH AS GPS, IPOD, ETC. AS THIS CAN INTERFERE WITH THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. I HAVE BEEN TO MANY SITES ON THE INTERNET AND SEEN NUMEROUS CASES OF THIS HAPPENING IN SATURN IONS MODEL YEARS BETWEEN 2003-2007. *TR

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 37,800.

THE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING ON MY 2006 SATURN ION 2, FAILED AT AROUND 37,000 MILES. THE POWER STEERING WILL WORK FOR A FEW SECONDS EVERY TIME I START THE CAR, BUT THEN SHUTS OFF. STEERING IS DIFFICULT WITH NO POWER STEERING. SO FAR NOW REPAIRS HAVE BEEN MADE, SATURN SAID THEY WILL CHARGE ME AT LEAST $1,000.00 FOR THE REPAIR. SOMETIMES AS I AM DRIVING, THE POWER STEERING IN MY 2006 SATURN ION STOPS WORKING AND I CAN'T TURN THE VEHICLE. IF I HAVE TO MAKE A TURN, I HAVE TO TRY TO MOVE THE WHEEL. I HAVE CAUSED MAJOR DELAYS AND ALMOST BEEN IN A FEW WRECKS DUE TO TROUBLES TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. THE POWER STEERING WILL NOT WORK UNTIL I TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND THEN RESTART IT AFTER A FEW MINUTES. THE OTHER PROBLEM I AM HAVING IS TURNING THE VEHICLE ON IN THE MORNING WHICH I HAVE DONE THE RESEARCH ON AND FOUND IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM FOR SATURN. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE WIRING COMPONENTS OF THE VEHICLE AND ONCE I TURN THE KEY I HAVE TO GIVE IT AT LEAST 10 MINUTES BEFORE IT WILL TURN ON. THEN I CAN'T TURN IT OFF UNTIL I GET TO WHERE I NEED TO GO OR I HAVE TO WAIT AGAIN FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER 10 MINUTES. THIS PRESENTS A BIG PROBLEM IF I HAVE TO STOP FOR GAS, BECAUSE I CAN'T TURN MY CAR OFF AT THE PUMP OR I AM STUCK AT THE GAS PUMP FOR AT LEAST 10 MINUTES AND SOMETIMES LONGER.
1. FOR ABOUT A YEAR BEFORE THE INCIDENT, MY KEY ON MY VEHICLE WOULD GET STUCK IN THE IGNITION SOMETIMES (JUST A STICKING FEELING, NOTHING MAJOR). A COUPLE WEEKS AGO, I PUT THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND IT WOULD NOT COME OUT. THE CAR WOULDN'T TURN OFF B/C THE KEY WAS COMPLETELY STUCK. WHEN I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM, I FOUND OUT MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR NEWER SATURN IONS. I WAS UPSET B/C I BOUGHT THIS CAR NEW IN 2006 AND MY WARRANTY HAD JUST EXPIRED. SATURN WOULD NOT PAY FOR THE REPAIR, EVEN THOUGH THEY COULD NOT EXPLAIN WHY THE IGNITION CYLINDER BROKE AND SEVERAL EMPLOYEES ADMITTED THIS WAS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. 2. THE FAILURE WAS THE IGNITION CYLINDER, WHICH BROKE AFTER ONLY HAVING THE CAR FOR 3 YEARS-I TOOK AUTO SHOP, SO I KNOW NOT TO PUT TOO MANY KEYS ON MY KEY RING. A PART SHOULD NOT BREAK THAT SOON ON A 3-YEAR OLD CAR. I NOTICED THE KEY GETTING SLIGHTLY STUCK EVERY FEW WEEKS OR SO. THE DAY MY KEY GOT STUCK, THE CONSEQUENCE WAS THAT I WAS BASICALLY HOSTAGE TO MY CAR-I COULD NOT TURN OFF MY CAR, & COULD NOT GO TO WORK AND LEAVE MY CAR ON THE STREET. IT WAS UNSAFE FOR ME TO DRIVE AROUND UNTIL I RAN OUT OF GAS ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. SO, I HAD TO AGREE TO THE REPAIR, EVEN THOUGH SATURN REFUSED TO PAY FOR IT. 3. THE IGNITION CYLINDER WAS REPLACED AND IT COST ME $250. (ANOTHER $100 FOR A DAY'S MISSED WORK) *I GREATLY HOPE YOU RECALL THIS DEFECTIVE ITEM. I CALLED THE SATURN NATIONAL HOTLINE AND THEY WOULD NOT HELP IN ANY WAY AND SAID THE RECALL PROCESS TAKES "A LONG TIME" AND UNTIL THEN, CUSTOMERS WOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIRS TO THIS PART. I ONLY HAD TO "GOOGLE" THIS ISSUE AND FOUND COUNTLESS PEOPLE WITH 1-3 YEAR OLD SATURNS WHO WERE STUCK WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. I AM A 33-YEAR OLD STUDENT WHO CARES FOR MY BROTHER WHO'S DISABLED. I DO NOT HAVE THIS KIND OF MONEY. IT SCARES ME TO THINK ABOUT WHAT I WOULD HAVE DONE HAD I BEEN OUT IN AN UNFAMILIAR ROAD/AREA AND BEEN UNABLE TO TURN OFF MY CAR. :/ THANKS VERY MUCH FOR YOUR TIME. *TR
STEERING WHEEL WILL NOT LOCK. WHEN TAKING KEY OUT OF IGNITION, AND OPENING DRIVER DOOR, IT CHIMES VERY FAST, AS IF KEY WAS STILL IN IGNITION OR LIGHTS HAVE BEEN LEFT ON. IT'S AS IF THE KEY WAS NEVER REMOVED AT ALL, WHICH MEANS THE ANTI-THEFT DEVICE PROBABLY DOES NOT ENGAGE AND THE IGNITION COULD EASILY BE MANIPULATED AND STARTED WITHOUT THE KEY. I HAVE NOT CONTACTED MY DEALER BECAUSE THE CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND I DO NOT HAVE THE MONEY TO PAY FOR SUCH A REPAIR. HOWEVER, I WILL BE TURNING THE CAR OVER TO GMAC ONCE THE SMARTBUY PERIOD IS UP. SHE WAS ADVISED THAT HER VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS EXCLUDED FROM RECALL # 09V419000(FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 46,000.

BOUGHT MY SATURN ION 2 2006 IN 2005 OBVIOUSLY BRAND NEW AND WAS TALKED INTO PURCHASING A $1500 BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY. I HAD NO WHERE TO TAKE IT SINCE DEALERSHIPS ARE CLOSED SUNDAYS. MY CAR RAN FOR OVER 5 HOURS BECAUSE NO ONE COULD FIGURE OUT HOW TO UNPLUG THE BATTERY. ONLY A PROFESSIONAL KNOWS HOW TO TURN OFF THE CAR SAFELY, YET MANY PEOPLE RISKED TURNING IT OFF. I AM SURE SOME PEOPLE WOULD FIND IT EASY TO TURN OFF THE CAR BY DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY BUT STILL IT NOT SAFE. MY CAR WAS SO HOT NO ONE COULD TOUCH IT, I WAS AFRAID IT WAS GOING TO START ON FIRE.
