TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. SHE BEGAN TO SMELL A STRONG ODOR OF GASOLINE EMANATING FROM THE VEHICLE. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT SHE WOULD HAVE TO REPAIR THE FUEL PUMP SEAL AT AN EXPENSE OF $730.00. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE. SHE FILED REPORT NUMBER 7178545357 WITH THE MANUFACTURER. A REPRESENTATIVE STATED THAT HER VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN RECALL NUMBER 09V41900 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE: DELIVERY: FUEL PUMP). THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 84,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE COMPONENT INSIDE OF THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER FAILED. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CANNOT BE TURNED OFF AND THE KEY CANNOT BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. SHE EXPLAINED THE ISSUE TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY ARE NOT ASSUMING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIRS. SOME MECHANICS STATED THAT THE DEFECTIVE ITEM WAS MADE OF PLASTIC, RATHER THAN METAL. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THIS FAILURE SHOULD NOT OCCUR TO A NEWER VEHICLE. THE ONLY WAY TO SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE IS BY REMOVING A FUSE OR DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 41,000.
AS I WAS DRIVING, THERE WAS A DINGING SOUND AND THE POWER STEERING MESSAGE WAS DISPLAYED AND THERE WAS NO POWER STEERING. ONCE THE CAR IS SHUT OFF AND TURNED BACK ON, POWER STEERING RESUMES FOR AN UNKNOWN AMOUNT OF TIME. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS ESPECIALLY IF IT WERE TO GO OFF MID-TURN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE POWER STEERING FAILED FOLLOWED BY AN ILLUMINATION OF THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT. THE STEERING WHEEL BECAME DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. THE CONTACT SHUT OFF THE ENGINE, IMMEDIATELY RESTARTED IT AND THE POWER STEERING BEGAN TO FUNCTION NORMALLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V073000 (PERTAINING TO THE 2005-2010 CHEVROLET COBALT MODELS: STEERING: ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM) WAS APPLICABLE TO HIS VEHICLE SINCE THE POWER STEERING PUMP WAS THE SAME MODEL AS THE CHEVROLET COBALT. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE RECALL DID NOT APPLY TO HIS VIN AND ANY REPAIRS WOULD BE AT THE EXPENSE OF THE OWNER. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER CONCEDED TO TAKE THE LIABILITY FOR THE LABOR COSTS AND THE OWNER WAS LIABLE FOR THE PARTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 46,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 50,500.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH HE ENCOUNTERED A BUMP IN THE DRIVEWAY. THERE WAS ALSO A LOUD RATTLING NOISE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO BOTH FRONT LOWER ARM BUSHINGS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THIS TIME. THE POWER STEERING ON MY 2006 SATURN ION HAS BEEN FAILING EVERY FEW DAYS FOR THE LAST 4-6 WEEKS. USUALLY THE POWER STEERING RETURNS WHEN THE CAR IS RE-STARTED, BUT YESTERDAY AS SOON AS I STARTED DRIVING IT WENT OUT AND HAS STAYED OUT. *TR
OWN A 2006 SATURN ION , THE POWER STEERING QUITS WORKING AND A WARNING MESSAGE APPEARS WHERE THE ODOMETER IS MESSAGE IS CK PWR STEER. CAR IS BASED IN LAS VEGAS WARMER TEMPS CAUSE IT TO OCCUR MORE OFTEN. I AM A FEMALE OF MEDIUM BUILD AND THE STEERING WHEEL IS VERY HARD TO TURN. WHEN THE CAR IS TURNED OFF AND THEN RESTARTED IT SEAMS TO RESET AND OPERATE OK. THE CAR HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED YET WAS TOLD THAT IT NEEDS A COMPLETE STEERING COLUMN . I DID HEAR OF A RECALL ON OTHER GM VEHICLES WITH THE SAME CONCERN. IF THERE IS A RECALL ON THOSE CARS WHY NOT THIS MODEL AND YEAR? *TR
I HAVE A 2006 ION SATURN AND I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY (NY) 684 WHEN A BEEPING SOUND CAME ON AND THE "POWER STEERING" LIGHT CAME ON AND MY CAR LOCKED UP. I WAS DOING 65 IN THE LEFT HAND LANE AND NO SHOULDER TO GO ONTO. THANK GOODNESS I WAS ABLE TO SOMEHOW GET TO A SAFE SPOT ON THE HIGHWAY AND CALL FOR HELP. THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BY SATURN. I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE. *TR

I PURCHASED A 2006 SATURN ION IN JUNE OF 2010, THE POWERSTEERING LIGHT WAS ON AND THE CAR WAS VERY HARD TO TURN, THE DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THAT IT WAS LOW ON POWERSTEERING FLUID, IN CHECKING I FOUND THAT THE SATURN ION HAD ELECTRIC POWERSTEERING AND THAT THE POWERSTEERING MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE MOTOR AND THE POWERSTEERING IN MY 2006 SATURN ION STILL FAILS TO WORK, THE CAR CAN NOT TURN WITHOUT USING EXTREME FORCE, NOW I HAVE TO TAKE IT BACK TO A SERVICE DEALER (WHICH IS AT CLOSEST 350 MILES) WITH NO POWERSTEERING AND PUMP MORE MONEY INTO THE PROBLEM. THIS IS HIGHLY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE, IF THERE WERE AN EMERGENCY AND THE CAR NEEDED TO TURN QUICKLY IT WOULD NOT HAPPEN, YOUR ALMOST CAN'T TURN INTO A PARKING STALL AT THE STORE OR EVEN TURN ONTO ANOTHER STREET, IT TAKES BOTH HANDS AND PLENTY OF MUSCLE TO TURN THE CAR, THE SAFETY OF ALL WHO ARE IN THE CAR IS AT RISK, I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY SATURN HASN'T ISSUED A RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM. IN CHECKING ON LINE I FOUND THAT THIS IS A REAL PROBLEM WITH THE SATURN ION AND THERE ARE MANY MANY MORE COMPLAINTS ABOUT IT, I ALSO FOUND THAT THE CHEV. COBALT HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND THERE WAS A RECALL ON IT, SO WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE SATURN AND THE COBALT. THIS IS AN ISSUE GOING THROUGH ALOT OF SATURN OWNERS AND IT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED NOW!!!! *TR
LESS THAN A YEAR AGO, THE POWER STEERING ON MY 2006 SATURN ION QUIT ON ME ABRUPTLY AND IT ALMOST LED TO A CRASH. I WAS ABOUT TO TURN WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I HEARD A BELL CHIME, AND ONE OF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON AND JUST AS THAT HAPPENED, THE STEERING GOT REALLY HARD AND I ALMOST GOT HIT BY ANOTHER MOTORIST. AFTER I GOT HOME, I RESTARTED THE CAR AND IT WAS FINE UNTIL ABOUT 15 MINUTES LATER WHEN IT WOULD SHUT OFF ALL OF A SUDDEN. I RAN IT FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS AND AFTER ABOUT 2 MINUTES OF DRIVING, THE POWER STEERING WOULD JUST SHUT OFF. THIS ALL HAPPENED WHEN MY CAR HAD AROUND 45K MILES ON IT. THIS SOUNDS JUST LIKE WHAT THE COBALTS AND PONTIACS THAT WERE JUST RECALLED WENT THROUGH. I BELIEVE THE SATURN IONS SHOULD BE LOOKED AT AS WELL. I HAD THE REPLACE THE ENTIRE ELECTRIC POWER STEERING SYSTEM ON MY CAR AT A PRICE OF AROUND $900. *TR
AFTER COMING OUT OF CARWASH I ATTEMPTED TWICE TO START CAR. ON THE THIRD TRY IT STARTED & THEN KEY WOULD NOT TURN OFF W/ENGINE RUNNING WHEN I REACHED MY DESTINATION. I THEN PROCEEDED TO SATURN DEALER WHO FORTUNATELY WAS OPEN AND DISCONNECTED BATTERY TO STOP ENGINE. HOUSING, KEY ASSEMBLY, & CYLINDER HAD TO BE REPLACED AT THE EXPENSE OF $598.06. DEALER COULD NOT EXPLAIN WHY OR HOW SITUATION OCCURRED SO AS TO PREVENT RECURRENCE IN FUTURE. MILEAGE WAS 40,071. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 SATURN ION 2. I WAS SMELLING GAS. I TOOK IT TO GET REPAIRED AT AROUND 119K MILES AND WAS TOLD IT WAS JUST MY EXHAUST. I GOT A HOLE REPAIRED IN MY EXHAUST AND SMELLED GAS JUST EVERY ONCE IN AWHILE. NOW GAS IS LEAKING FROM MY FUEL PUMP BECAUSE THERE IS A LARGE HOLE. THE INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP STATED THAT IT HAD BEEN CRACKED PRIOR TO THE SIZE OF THE CRACK NOW. I CALLED SATURN AFTER FINDING OUT ABOUT A RECALL AND NOW THEY WILL NOT REPAIR IT. *TR
NOTHING LED UP TO THIS FAILURE-I WAS JUST DRIVING ALONG WHEN THE PWRSTR ERROR MESSAGE CAME UP ON MY SCREEN AND THE POWER STEERING SHUT OFF. I WAS GOING 65 MPH ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE AT THE TIME. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE CAR BACK TO MY HOUSE. WHEN I STARTED IT UP LATER, THE PWRSTR ERROR MESSAGE WAS GONE AND THE POWER STEERING WAS OK. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENTIRE STEERING COLUMN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED SINCE THE SATURN HAS AN ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN AND THE COST WOULD BE $1200. *TR
WHEN THE WEATHER IS REALLY HOT MY CAR DOESN'T START UNTIL IT COOLS DOWN IN THE EVENING. *TR
TL*-THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY BETWEEN 10 TO 50 MPH THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THE VEHICLE BECAME EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO STEER. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF, AND THEN RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL. THE FAILURE OCCURRED FIFTEEN TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING UNIT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THERE WAS NOT A SERVICE WARRANTY RELATED TO THE FAILURE OR RECALL DEFECT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED DUE TO THE SERVICE COST. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 33,927.

POWER STEERING WENT OUT ON MY 2006 SATURN ION. HAD TO HAVE IT FIXED AND THE DEALER TOLD ME THEY HAVE OTHER LINES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. I SAW THE OTHER GM MODELS POWER STEERING IS GOING OUT. WE NEED TO HAVE THIS MODEL ADDED TO THEIR LIST. I ALSO KILLED MYSELF AND MY CHILDREN WHEN IT WENT OUT. I FEEL GM NEEDS TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE DOES GET KILLED. BECAUSE I WOULD SUE THE HECK OUT OF THEM OR MY FAMILY MEMBERS. *TR
ON FOUR OCCASIONS, THE CAR FAILED TO START. THE LIGHTS, HORN WORK, BUT THERE IS NO IGNITION NOISE. AFTER WAITING AT LEAST 15-25 MINUTES EACH TIME, THE CAR EVENTUALLY STARTED. ON APRIL 6TH, 2009 AS I WAS COMING HOME ON THE FREEWAY, THE CAR SUDDENLY LOST POWER, WITHOUT ANY TYPE OF WARNING. I WAS ABLE TO CROSS A LANE TO GET INTO THE SLOW LANE AND PULL OFF THE ROAD. THIS HAPPENED ON A BUSY STRETCH OF HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 12 :48PM. THE CONSEQUENCES COULD'VE BEEN VERY TRAGIC. I LATER TOOK THE CAR TO A REPAIR SHOP FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, AND THE ENGINE FAILURE WASN'T RECORDED IN MY VEHICLE'S COMPUTER SYSTEM. OUTRAGEOUS. I DON'T FEEL SAFE! *TR
BEGINNING IN 2009 THROUGH TODAY 4/10/2014 MY DAUGHTER'S SATURN ION HAS HAD IGNITION PROBLEMS AND INTERMITTENT AIR BAG LIGHT PROBLEMS. ALL OF THE PROBLEMS NOTED IN THE RECALL FROM GM APPLY TO HER CAR. SHE HAS CONTACT GM VIA EMAIL THROUGHOUT 2010 INCLUDING CUSTOMER SERVICE, A MR. HENDERSON AND A MR. REUSS. WE HAVE COPIES OF THESE EMAILS. NO ONE WOULD HELP HER EVEN THOUGH SHE MENTIONED THAT SHE FEARED FOR HER LIFE. THESE INCIDENTS WERE LIFE THREATENING. SHE HAS BEEN TO 2 GM DEALERSHIPS OVER THE YEARS TO GET THESE ITEMS FIXED AND RECEIVED NO HELP FROM THE DEALERSHIP EITHER. THEY SAID THEY CAN'T FIND A PROBLEM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE POWER STEERING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE POWER STEERING FAILED. THERE WAS A RECALL, BUT THE CONTACT'S VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. HE WOULD LIKE THE MANUFACTURER TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT IS UNSAFE AND CANNOT BE DRIVEN ONCE THE POWER STEERING FAILS. THE NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 45,400.
TL*- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. WHILE DRIVING AT 75 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO APPLY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL REPAIR SHOP AND IT WAS INSPECTED BY A TECHNICIAN THAT DETERMINED THAT THE BALL BEARINGS WHERE PRESSING ON THE BRAKES CAUSING THE BRAKES TO FAIL. THE RIGHT AND LEFT CONTROL ARM WHERE REPLACED AT A COST OF 668.91. THE CONTACT IS IN THE PROCESS OF CONTACTING THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 17,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 17,417.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING FAILS INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE FAILURE COULD CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO VEER INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC OR THE MEDIAN. THE DEALER STATED THAT IT WOULD COST $1,100 TO REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
THREE TIMES WHEN THE TEMPERATURE HAS BEEN BELOW 30F I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO START MY SATURN ION. EACH TIME I HAVE HAD TO CALL ON STAR TO GET A JUMP START. ALL THREE TIMES THE JUMP START HAS GOTTEN MY CARD RUNNING. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO HAVE THE BATTERY AND STARTER CHECKED BOTH CHECKED OUT FINE. I SEE THERE IS A GM SERVICE BULLETIN NUMBER : 040845005 AND A NHTSA ITEM NUMBER : 10007431 ESTABLISHED FOR THIS COMPLAINT. I FEEL AS THOUGH GM SHOULD RECALL THESE VEHICLES AND BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS. *TR
FAILURE OF 2006 SATURN ION TO START IN COLD WEATHER, USUALLY +10 FAHRENHEIT OR BELOW. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS WITHOUT EXCEPTION WHEN TEMPERATURE IS IN THAT RANGE UNLESS WARM ARE IS SUFFICIENTLY BLOWN INTO IGNITION LOCK TO WARM IT UP TO THE POINT WERE IT WILL RECOGNIZE THE KEY. OTHERWISE THE PASS LOCK SYSTEM ENGAGES AND MUST WAIT ABOUT 10 MIN. TO ATTEMPT TO START THE CAR AGAIN. TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND AN UNRELATED PROBLEM WAS FIXED(COMPUTER REPROGRAMMING). BOTH BEFORE AND AFTER REPAIR I WAS TREATED LIKE AN IDIOT BY SERVICE WOMAN AND TOLD IN A VERY DISCOURTEOUS MANNER THAT THE REPAIR WOULD CERTAINLY CORRECT THE COLD START PROBLEM. AND IF NOT THEN IT WAS BECAUSE MICE (OR OTHER SUCH CREATURES) WERE "NESTING" IN MY ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND EATING THE WIRING. MY WIFE DRIVE THIS CAR TO HER JOB IN JOLIET, IL WHICH IS BY NO MEANS A 24/7 BASTION OF SAFETY. I AM VERY CONCERNED FOR HER SAFETY, ESPECIALLY WHEN SHE MUST WORK LATER INTO THE EVENINGS. I HAVE SEEN HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS REGARDING THIS VERY ISSUE AND WONDER WHY THERE STILL IS NO RECALL OF THIS DEFECTIVE IGNITION SYSTEM. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE IGNITION SWITCH FAILED AND THE CONTACT HAS BEEN UNABLE TO REMOVE THE KEYS FOR SIX MONTHS. THE DEALER STATED THAT IT WOULD COST $800 TO REPLACE THE SWITCH AND TO DISCONNECT ANOTHER SWITCH UNDER THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN EVER SHE DROVE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO STALL WHILE DRIVING; HOWEVER, THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY ARE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE UNLESS THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ILLUMINATED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS NOT ILLUMINATED PRIOR TO THE ENGINE STALLING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
SATURN ION HAS TROUBLE STARTING WHEN THE WEATHER IS COLD. IT IS THE PASS LOCK ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM THAT SO MANY OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING TROUBLES WITH. SATURN DEALER WILL NOT ADMIT TO ANY PROBLEM. *TR

2006 SATURN WILL NOT START DUE TO FAULTY IGNITION. 4 MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY. CALLED EVERY SATURN DEALER WITHIN 200 MILES. ALL KNOW OF THE PROBLEM AND KNOW IMMEDIATELY WHAT IS NEEDED TO FIX IT. THEY TELL ME THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM FOR A FEW YEARS. YET NO RECALL. *TR

HE INSERTED THE OTHER KEY INTO THE IGNITION AND THE VEHICLE STARTED. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED HIM TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 11,000. UPDATED 02/24/09. *LJ THE DEALER REPLACED THE IGNITION SWITCH. UPDATED 02/24/09. *JB
IGNITION SWITCH IS BAD. THE CAR WILL NOT START,THE COMPUTER WILL NOT DISARM. *TR
KEEP BLOWING FUSES ON THE POWER STEERING. FUSES BLOW ABOUT EVERY FEW MONTHS AND ARE REPLACED. LOOSENESS IN THE POWER STEERING AT SLOW SPEEDS WHEN WORKING. *TR

TYPICALLY, AFTER HE RESTARTS THE VEHICLE, THE ELECTRIC POWER ASSIST SYSTEM RESUMES AS NORMAL. THE DEALER STATED THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE STEERING UNIT AT THE COST OF $1,100. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 84,000.
2006 SATURN ION 3. KEY WOULD NOT COME OUT OF IGNITION. IT STARTED OUT JUST EVER SO OFTEN ABOUT 6-8 MONTHS AGO AND STEADILY BECAME MORE FREQUENT. TOOK THE CAR IN TO THE DEALER, AND THEY PUT IN A NEW CYLINDER AND HOUSING AND I ALSO GOT A NEW KEY. THE WARRANTY WAS OUT IN 8/08, SO I ENDED UP PAYING $572.40 FOR REPAIRS. I CAME HOME AND AM STILL HAVING SAME PROBLEM WITH THE KEY NOT WANTING TO COME OUT OF IGNITION AT TIMES. *TR
PURCHASED VEHICLE NEW AS A DEMO, TOLD THERE WAS 'MINOR PANEL DAMAGE BUT FIXED LIKE NEW" FOUND OUT CAR WAS IN CHAIN REACTION CRASH BOTH FRONT AND REAR. BODY AND FRAME STILL NOT FIXED, KEEPS CRACKING WINDSHIELDS NOW IGNITION SYSTEM HAS FAILED. READ MANY OTHER PROBLEMS WITH SAME ISSUE FROM YEAR 2000 AND UP ON THE CAR. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH IN RAINY WEATHER CONDITIONS, THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WIPERS FAILED. THE CONTACT'S VISIBILITY WAS SIGNIFICANTLY REDUCED. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT HE NEEDED TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD WIPER TRANSMISSION. THE REPAIR WOULD COST OVER $300. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT YET BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT BECAUSE THERE WAS NO RECALL, THEY WOULD NOT ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIR. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 40,000.
I HAVE A 2006 SATURN ION WITH 35,000 MILES, BOUGHT NEW IN OCTOBER 2005 AND ONLY SERVICED AT SATURN. IT SLIPS WHEN PUT INTO REVERSE. THE DEALER COULD REPLICATE THE PROBLEM MANUALLY BUT COULD NOT GET A TROUBLE CODE. ALTHOUGH A SERVICE BULLETIN WAS ISSUED, THE DEALER WILL DO NOTHING UNTIL AND UNLESS IT WILL GENERATE A CODE, AND SAYS THEY WILL NOT REPAIR IT UNDER WARRANTY. I CALLED SATURN CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY TOLD ME THE SAME THING. THEY ALSO WILL NOT SELL ME A GM EXTENDED WARRANTY BECAUSE IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY ON LENGTH OF TIME. I AM TOLD TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT UNTIL IT GETS BAD ENOUGH THAT IT WILL PRODUCE A TROUBLE CODE. BY THAT TIME IT WILL UNDOUBTEDLY NO LONGER BE CLOSE TO THE WARRANTY MILEAGE AND IT WILL PROBABLY COST AS MUCH AS THE CAR IS WORTH TO REPAIR IT. LATER, THE CONTACT STARTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 33,000.
I OWN A 2006 SATURN ION WITH APPROXIMATELY 41K MILES. THE CAR IS LESS THAN 5 MONTHS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE POWER STEERING INTERMITTENTLY STOPS WORKING. THIS STARTED ON DECEMBER 2, 2008 AND HAS CONTINUED. I WILL BE DRIVING AND THE DASH LIGHT COMES ON, A CHIME SOUNDS, AND I LOSE POWER STEERING. ONCE I AM ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE IT WILL START WORKING AGAIN ONCE THE CAR IS RESTARTED. THERE IS NO SET PATTERN TO FOLLOW AS TO WHEN IT HAPPENS. ONE DAY I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE 10 MILES AND IT NEVER STOPPED WORKING. THE NEXT DAY IT STOPPED WORKING 6 TIMES DURING A 4 MILE TRIP. WHEN THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT THE VEHICLE IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN AND I'M CONCERNED IT IS GOING TO CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I CONTACTED MY SATURN DEALER AND TALKED TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. I WAS TOLD THAT IF THE POWER STEERING COLUMN HAS TO BE REPLACED IT IS GOING TO COST AROUND $1,100. *TR
AT APPROXIMATELY 35,000 MILES ON APPROXIMATELY DECEMBER 2, 2008, (THIS DATE IS APPROXIMATE AS I DON'T HAVE RECORDS OF THE FIRST FAILURE, GM WOULD HAVE RECORDS OF THE REPAIR WITH EXACT DATE AND MILEAGE) WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE FREEWAY AT 70 MPH ON A SLUSHY DAY, POWER STEERING FAILED. WE WERE ABLE TO TAKE THE NEXT EXIT AND HAPPENED TO BE NEAR A SATURN DEALERSHIP. WE STOPPED THERE IMMEDIATELY AND THE CAR WAS KEPT THERE WHILE THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED AS WARRANTY WORK. THE CAR NOW HAS 105,000 MILES ON IT THIS PART WITH APPROXIMATELY 60,000 MILES ON IT FAILED AGAIN AND POWER STEERING WAS LOST ON OCTOBER 21, 2010 WHILE DRIVING DOWN A HIGHWAY AT 70 MPH WITH MY DAUGHTER IN THE CAR. WE WERE ABLE TO PULL THE CAR OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, SHUT IT OFF AND RESTART IT WHICH CAUSED THE POWER STEERING TO RETURN. WE COMPLETED THE TRIP WITH NO MORE OCCURRENCES, BUT IN DRIVING IN TOWN, THE POWERSTEERING HAS CONTINUED TO FAIL. I HAVE STARTED RIDING THE BUS AND DON'T FEEL IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE MORE THAN A FEW BLOCKS AT A TIME. I HAD RECEIVED A LETTER INDICATING THAT IF THERE WERE POWER STEERING ISSUES WE SHOULD CONTACT THE DEALER. WE DID SO AND THE GM DEALER TOLD US THAT OUR CAR DOES NOT HAVE WARRANTY WORK AVAILABLE AND THAT THEY ARE UNAWARE OF ANY ISSUES WITH STEERING ON THE SATURN ION. WE HAVE CONTACTED GM AS WELL, BUT THEY HAVE NOT RESPONDED. *TR
2ND OCCURRENCE - UNABLE TO MOVE KEY OF RUNNING VEHICLE FROM "RUN" TO OFF. HAD TO REMOVE FUSE AND DISCONNECT BATTERY TO STOP CAR. STILL UNABLE TO REMOVE KEY - DEALER HAS TO REPLACE LOCK CYLINDER PARTS. WOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STOP ENGINE IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. *TR
THIS IS THE SECOND COMPLAINT I HAVE FILED ON MY 2006 SATURN ION. I HAVE BEEN TRACKING A PROBLEM I HAVE BEEN HAVING WITH IT NOT STARTING IN THE MORNING. THE PROBLEM IS WITH THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM THAT ALLOWS FUEL TO PASS TO THE ENGINE, A SO CALLED ANTI THEFT DETERRENT. THIS MORNING I SAT IN MY CAR IN THE DRIVEWAY FOR 30 MINUTES WAITING FOR THE SYSTEM TO RESET ITSELF. LOOKING AT VARIOUS WEBSITES, GM HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM REPEATEDLY FOR QUITE SOME TIME. I HAVE CONTACTED SATURN CORPORATION, RECEIVED ASSISTANCE FROM A CUSTOMER SERVICE REP, TAKEN MY CAR TO THE NEAREST DEALERSHIP (70 MILES AWAY) AND THE DEALERSHIP "CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM" AND SAYS THEY HAVE "NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM BEFORE". I TOOK OVER 20 PAGES OF DOCUMENTATION WITH ME SHOWING THOUSANDS OF GM CUSTOMERS THAT ARE EXPERIENCING THIS SAME PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP WOULDN'T EVEN LOOK AT THE PAPERWORK. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS ISSUE. MY CAR IS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD. I WAS SOLD A DEFECTIVE PRODUCT, GM KNOWS THE PASSLOCK SYSTEM DOES NOT WORK PROPERLY BUT CONTINUES TO TREAT THEIR CUSTOMERS LIKE THEY ARE IDIOTS.
