SATURN ION WILL NOT COLD START ON COLD MORNINGS. THE KEY TURNS TO THE ON POSITION BUT WILL NOT START THE VEHICLE. IT DOES ABSOLUTELY NOTHING IN THE IGNITION MODE. NO CRANK-NOTHING. THIS IS THE FIFTH TIME THIS EVENT HAS OCCURRED. FIST OCCURRED AT 40K. STILL HAPPENS AT 49K. WHEN OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE RISES THE CAR WILL START NORMALLY. THE SATURN DEALERSHIP WHERE WE PURCHASED THIS ( OUR NINTH SATURN ) IS NOW CLOSED. WE WERE REFERRED TO A CHEVY DEALERSHIP. CAN'T HELP WONDERING HOW THIS COULD HELP. IT IS OBVIOUS, THAT DESPITE OUR BRAND LOYALTY, WE ARE NOW GETTING THE COLD SHOULDER IN MORE WAYS THAN ONE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. AFTER 30 SECONDS OF VEHICLE OPERATION, THE POWER STEERING WILL FAIL. USUALLY WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS RESTARTED THE POWER STEERING WOULD RESUME NORMAL OPERATION FOR A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALERSHIP. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50000. UPDATED 1/11/09 *CN THE POWER STEERING MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. UPDATED 01/14/10.*JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH WITH A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER STEERING. THE POWER STEERING WARNING LIGHT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THERE WAS EXTREME DIFFICULTY STEERING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE POWER STEERING MOTOR AND STEERING COLUMN WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. IN ADDITION, THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR WOULD STICK UNLESS BODY PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE DOOR. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
WE OWN 7 SATURN IONS. 3 OF THEM HAVE HAD THE POWER STEERING FAIL WHILE DRIVING. THEY ARE USED FOR OUR BUSINESS. THE CARS ARE NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO STEER WHEN THIS HAPPENS. IT MAY CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. THE REPAIRS ARE NEARLY $1000 AT THE DEALERSHIP. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2006 SATURN ION 3 FOUR-DOOR SEDAN IN APRIL 2007. IN THE PAST TWO MONTHS, I HAVE HAD THREE OR FOUR OCCASIONS WHERE THE CAR WOULD NOT START. THIS TYPICALLY OCCURS WHEN THE WEATHER IS COLD, ESPECIALLY WHEN THERE HAS BEEN FROST OVERNIGHT. *TR WHAT WILL HAPPEN IS THAT WHEN YOU FIRST PUT IN THE KEY AND TURN IT TO THE START POSITION, NOTHING WILL HAPPEN. THERE IS NO CRANK OR ENGINE NOISE OTHER THAN A SLIGHT BUZZING SOUND SOMETIMES, BUT THE CAR WILL NOT START. IF YOU HOLD THE KEY IN THE START POSITION, THE SECURITY LOCK ICON APPEARS ON THE DASHBOARD INFORMATION PANEL. IF YOU KEEP TRYING TO TURN THE CAR ON, IT WILL NOT WORK, BUT IF YOU WAIT EXACTLY TEN MINUTES FROM THE INITIAL ATTEMPT TO START THE CAR, IT WILL THEN TURN ON. I HAVE TRACKED THIS PROBLEM DOWN TO THE IGNITION SWITCH OR THE PASSLOCK SECURITY SYSTEM ON THE CAR. MANY DRIVERS OF 2003-2006 SATURN ION VEHICLES ARE COMPLAINING OF THIS ISSUE, AND IT IS VERY CLEARLY A FAULTY SYSTEM THAT WILL NOT BE FIXED BY A SIMPLE PART REPLACEMENT. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2006 SATURN ION WHICH INTERMITTENTLY (ABOUT ONCE A WEEK) DOES NOT START. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH SATURN IONS AS EVIDENCED BY A BASIC INTERNET SEARCH (SEE HTTP://WWW.CONSUMERAFFAIRS.COM/AUTOMOTIVE/SATURN_IGNITION_LOCK.HTML). I'M HAVING TO HAVE THE IGNITION SWITCH SENSOR REPLACED BUT THE PROBLEM REMAINS. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS DEFECT DURING WINTER MONTHS WHEN THE CAR MIGHT RANDOMLY NOT START IN AN ISOLATED AREA. THE DEALER FROM WHOM I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IS NOT WILLING TO MAKE THE REPAIR AT HIS EXPENSE DESPITE IT IS A WELL-KNOWN FAILING OF THIS VEHICLE. *TR
ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING CONSTANTLY FAILING. NO APPARENT REASON. NO CAR JUMPED OFF. NO CORRECTION AT THIS TIME. *TR
VEHICLE INITIALLY HAD TROUBLE STARTING, MADE STRANGE SOUNDS,CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON,WOULD NOT GO OVER 25-30MPH., FOLLOWED TOWTRUCK TO SATURN DEALER, WAS TOLD THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MAKE & MODEL, THERE WERE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS KNOWN AND THAT GM WAS AWARE OF IT BUT HAD NOT RECALLED. TURNED OUT THAT IT WAS THE IGNITION MODULE, SWITCH,COIL, HARNESS ETC., JUST UNDER $800 TO REPAIR. IT'S STILL SITTING IN THE GARAGE. THING IS...I PURCHASED THIS CAR ALMOST NEW B/C I HAD AN OLDER CAR & WANTED A NEW CAR IN CASE THE OTHER QUIT! WOW. WHO NEW? POWER STEERING ALSO GROANS AND ITS FULL OF FLUID. BECAUSE OF THIS,(IGNITION), THE KEY HAD TO BE MANUALLY PULLED OUT, TO GET THE ENGINE TO STOP RUNNING,ALL THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM REMAINED ON, HAD TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY, WAS TOLD DO NOT KNOW WHAT ELSE MAY HAVE BEEN DAMAGED AS A RESULT, THE DEALER SAID THE TRANSMISSION MAY HAVE BEEN DAMAGED AS A RESULT. YET THEY DON'T WANT TO RECALL BECAUSE OF THE RE-ORGANIZATION? WHAT ABOUT MY SAFETY? GOD KNOWS WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THIS HAPPENED! *TR
I HAVE A 2006 SATURN ION2 WHO'S POWER STEERING GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING. I REPORTED THIS ISSUE TO GM/SATURN A YEAR AGO AND WAS TOLD BY THE SATURN SHOP IN MANSFIELD, OH. THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THIS PARTICULAR CAR DUE TO SEEING SO MANY WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. IF YOU TURN THE CAR OFF AND BACK ON IT SEEMS BE A TEMPORARY FIX FOR ABOUT A MINUTE AND WILL CLICK OFF SHORTLY AFTER ACCELERATING IN SPEED. *TR
2006 SATURN ION AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY IN AN ACCIDENT. *NJ THE CONSUMER STATED HER SON WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE, WHEN HE CAME UPON A VEHICLE TRAVELING ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE CONSUMERS SON WAS RUN OFF THE ROAD AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER SEVERAL TIMES. *JB
1ST OCCURRENCE - UNABLE TO MOVE IGNITION KEY FROM RUN TO OFF WHILE VEHICLE IS RUNNING. WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO STOP MOTOR IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. HAD TO REMOVE FUSE AND DISCONNECT BATTERY TO STOP ENGINE. DEALER REPLACED LOCK HOUSING. PROBLEM RE-OCCURRED IN LESS THAN A MONTH. *TR
VEHICLE INTERMITTENTLY FAILS TO START. PASSLOCK ANTI-THEFT SYSTEM PREVENTS STARTER FROM CRANKING. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH SATURNS, YET THEY REFUSE TO REMEDY THE DEFECT WITHOUT CHARGING FOR PARTS AND LABOR. *TR
SMELL OF GASOLINE DETECTED. IGNORED BY DEALER. ONLY RECOGNIZED WHEN I POINTED IT OUT TO THEM. NEEDED NEW FUEL PUMP. ONLY 30,000 MILES ON CAR. DAUGHTER HAS EXACT SAME MAKE AND MODEL AND HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AT SAME MILEAGE. SATURN REPLACED BOTH FUEL PUMPS. SEEMS DANGEROUS WHEN GASOLINE IS LEAKING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE KEY FAILED TO RELEASE FROM THE IGNITION SWITCH. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER, WHO RECOMMENDED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE SHIFTER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,000.
SATURN ION 2006 69K MILES - IGNITION KEY STUCK IN ON POSITION. CANNOT TURN CAR OFF. INTERNET SEARCH REVEALS HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE AFFECTED BY THIS FLAW IN THE IGNITION LOCK. DEALERSHIP WANTS 500 TO FIX. *TR
MY 2006 SATURN ION FAILS TO START. LIGHTS, RADIO, ETC COME ON BUT WILL NOT TURNOVER. THIS MORNING AFTER WAITING 15 MINUTES AND TURNING THE KEY OFF/OFF MULTIPLE TIMES, IT FINALLY STARTED. OTHER TIMES THIS HAS HAPPENED I HAVE WAITED ANYWHERE FROM 10 TO 30 MINUTES BEFORE THE CAR WILL START. THIS HAPPENS WEEKLY AND I AM A SINGLE WOMEN AND I AM AFRAID I WILL EVENTUALLY BE STRANDED. I HAVE TAKEN MY CAR TO A LOCAL MECHANIC, HE COULD NOT GET IT TO FAIL. I TOOK IT HOME AND IT HAPPENED THE NEXT DAY. WHEN I CALLED HIM HE TOLD ME HE THOUGHT IT MAY BE AN IGNITION PROBLEM. *TR
MY BUSINESS PARTNER AND I HAVE A FLEET OF 9 SATURN VEHICLES. 6 OF WHICH ARE SATURN ION'S. THE POWER STEERING HAS GONE OUT ON ONE 2005 AND ONE 2006 ION'S WHILE THEY WERE BEING DRIVEN. IT IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO TURN THE VEHICLE WHEN IT GOES OUT. THESE WERE FAIRLY LOW MILEAGE VEHICLES. 37,000 AND 53,000 MILES ON THE CARS. I AM WORRIED THAT THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH ION'S. I ALSO AM WORRIED THAT IT WILL CAUSE A SERIOUS ACCIDENT WHEN MY EMPLOYEES ARE DRIVING THESE CARS. THE REPAIR FOR EACH IS ALMOST $1,000. I FEEL LIKE SATURN SHOULD RECALL THESE CARS AND REPLACE THE PARTS THAT ARE DEFECTIVE. *TR
CV DRIVESHAFTS FAIL ON THE HIGH PERFORMANCE REDLINE MODEL MADE BY SATURN AND IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER GM WARRENTY. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. WHILE DRIVING 75 MPH, THE CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING. THE POWER STEERING, BATTERY, AND COOLANT WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT ALSO NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NO LONGER ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER. THE CONTACT DID NOT NOTICE ANY DIFFERENCES BEFOREHAND. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 51,000. UPDATED 10/16/08 *BF THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED THE KEY BECAME STUCK IN THE IGNITION. UPDATED 10/21/08. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE POWER STEERING WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER AND CALLED A MECHANIC, WHO ADVISED HER TO BRING HIM THE VEHICLE. WHEN SHE TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AT THE REPAIR SHOP, THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING RESET ITSELF; THEREFORE, THE MECHANIC COULD NOT PROVIDE A DIAGNOSIS. HE TOLD THE CONTACT TO LEAVE THE VEHICLE RUNNING THE NEXT TIME THE FAILURE OCCURS. WHEN THE FAILURE RECURRED, THE CONTACT HEEDED THE MECHANIC'S INSTRUCTIONS, WHICH ALLOWED HIM TO PROVIDE A DIAGNOSIS. THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING MODULE WAS MALFUNCTIONING. THE DEALER CONFIRMED THE DIAGNOSIS AND REFERRED HER TO THE MANUFACTURER BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS OUTSIDE OF THE WARRANTY, WHICH ONLY COVERED THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT IF SHE ONLY PAID $448, THEY WOULD COVER THE REMAINING COSTS. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 58,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 55,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE VEHICLE HAS A VERY STRONG GASOLINE SMELL INSIDE THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT AND OUTSIDE AS WELL. THERE IS ALSO A FUEL LEAKAGE IN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT IS A MECHANIC AND STATED THAT THE LEAK ORIGINATED FROM THE FUEL TANK. HE IS CONCERNED THAT THE LEAK COULD CAUSE A POTENTIAL FIRE HAZARD. EVER SINCE THE LEAK OCCURRED, THE VEHICLE NOW HAS TO BE CRANKED FOR A WHILE BEFORE THE ENGINE STARTS. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TAKEN TO ANY DEALER; HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 51,000. PHONE INTERVIEW (AUGUST 4, 09): MR. HORNBACK REPAIRED THE FULE PUMP HIMSELF. HE SAID THAT ONE OF THE NIPPLES ON THE FUEL MODULE HAD CRACKED. MR. HORNBACK INSERTED A BRASS PIPE INTO THE BROKEN NIPPLE AND EPOXY IT IN PLACE. HE AGREED TO EMAIL ME PICTURES OF THE FUEL PUMP MODULE. HE BELIEVES THAT THE CRACKED NIPPLE WAS FOR THE FUEL 'RETURN' SIDE.
MY CAR IS PARKED, BUT I CAN'T TURN THE IGNITION OFF. THE KEY COMES OUT, BUT THE ENGINE IS STILL ON. *TR
IGNITION SWITCH LOCKED UP IN THE RUN POSITION COULD NOT TURN VEHICLE OFF. *TR
KEY WAS STUCK IN THE "ON" POSITION AND IGNITION WOULD NOT TURN OFF. CALLED ONSTAR, THE REPRESENTATIVE CALLED ALL SATURN DEALERS IN MY AREA BUT ALL WERE CLOSED. WE FIGURED OUT WHICH FUSE WAS REPLACED. TOOK CAR INTO SATURN DEALER THE NEXT DAY AND WAS TOLD I WOULD NEED A NEW IGNITION HOUSING AND KEY CODE. TOTAL REPAIR COST WAS $500. THE CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY RANGE. I AGREED TO THE FIX AND CALLED SATURN CORPORATE TO ASK ABOUT THIS AND WAS TOLD I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. CORPORATE REPRESENTATIVE WAS RUDE AND OFFERED NO HELP OR SOLUTION. *TR
I HAVE A 2006 SATURN ION-2. EVERY MORNING WHEN I GET IN MY CAR AND I GO TO START IT DOESN'T START AND THE PASSLOCK LIGHT COMES ON. WHEN I CALLED SATURN THE SAID IT IS MY IGNITION SWITCH. THE PROBLEM I HAVE IS THAT THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING TO ALL VARIETIES OF SATURN MODELS, INCLUDING ONES BEFORE 2006. I HAVE READ MANY REVIEWS AND HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE HAVE THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM WITH THEIR SATURN. IF SATURN OR GM SEES THIS HAPPENING HOW COME THIS HAS NOT BEEN DECLARED AS A RECALL? I WOULD LIKE SATURN TO FIX THE ISSUE SINCE THE BAD THING IS THEY KNOW ABOUT IT AND IF YOU ARE OUT OF WARRANTY YOU ARE PAYING FOR A PROBLEM SATURN SHOULD HAVE RECALLED, BUT INSTEAD THEY MAKE MONEY OFF THE PROBLEM. *TR
2006 SATURN ION - DRIVER'S HOOD OF HIS VEHICLE CAME UP CAUSING THE REAR WINDSHIELD TO BREAK WHILE TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY. *NJ THE VEHICLE HAD PRIOR DAMAGE DUE TO A CRASH THAT OCCURRED THE SAME DAY. OHIO TRAFFIC CRASH REPORT 10-0658-91. *JB
TOOK MY 06 SATURN INTO THE DEALER DUE TO STALLING. WAS TOLD BY THE MECH. THAT THE FUEL PUMP WAS LEAKING THAT THE PLASTIC ELBOW HAD A CRACK IN IT DUE TO THE ROAD VIBRATION MY CONCERN IS THAT TIS IS A LINE THAT IS UNDER APPOS 20PSI LOCATED ABOVE THE EXHAUST PIPE AND DIRECTLY UNDER THE BACK SEAT. IF GAS IS BEING SPRAYED OUT OVER THE EXHAUST A SPARK IS ALL THAT IS MISSING TO HAVE A ROLLING FLAME THROWER. IN MY SIMPLE MIND THIS PART SHOULD NOT BE PRONE TO CRACKING BECAUSE OF NORMAL DRIVING. I STILL REMEMBER THE PINTO I HOPE SOME ONE WILL TAKE ACTION BEFORE SOMETHING HAPPENS THINK YOU FOR YOUR TIME IN THIS MATTER. *TR
I PURCHASED MY '06 SATURN ION IN JUNE '06. JUST LAST WEEK, I PARKED MY CAR AT A LOCAL STORE AND WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO TURN OFF THE IGNITION, THE KEY WOULDN'T BUDGE. THE IGNITION HAD LOCKED UP. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, I CONTACTED MY LOCAL SATURN DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME I WOULD NEED TO BRING THE CAR IN IMMEDIATELY TO BE ABLE TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE. ONCE I ARRIVED AT THE DEALERSHIP, THEY TOLD ME THE SITUATION AND HOW THEY CAN FIX IT AT A COST OF $300+. WITH NO OTHER OPTIONS, I AGREED AND THEY PROMPTLY FIXED IT WITHIN THE HOUR. HOWEVER, AS I PAID MY BILL I ASKED THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE WHAT THE CAUSE OF THE IGNITION LOCK WAS AND HE SAID IT WAS A FAULTY PART FROM SATURN AND THAT IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM. TO ME, THAT MEANS SATURN SHOULD BE TAKING CARE OF THE CHARGES AND THESE FAULTY PARTS!! THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL AND A REPLACEMENT MADE BY SATURN!! I HAVE HAD TWO SATURNS AND HAVE ALWAYS HAD GOOD EXPERIENCES AND WAS VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH HOW THEY HANDLED THIS "FAULTY" SITUATION! AND TO TOP IT OFF, ON MY RECEIPT, PARTS WERE LESS THAN $40 SO LABOR WAS HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS FOR LESS THAN 1 HOUR OF WORK FOR THEIR OWN FAULTY PART. UNREAL! *TR
I HAVE A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CAR HAS BEEN RUNNING GREAT. I GOT INTO MY VEHICLE AFTER WORK, AND STARTED THE CAR. I STOPPED AT A LOCAL GAS STATION TO GET GAS, AND THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN OFF. I HAD TO PUMP MY GAS WITH THE CAR RUNNING, WHICH IS AN EXTREME HAZARD TO MYSELF AND OTHERS AROUND ME. I CONTINUED TO JIGGLE THE KEY TRYING TO GET IT TO MOVE, AND IT WOULD NOT BUDGE. I DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME, AND CONTACT MY SATURN DEALERSHIP TO SEE IF I COULD GET THIS WORKED ON. THEY REPORTED THAT IT WOULD BE OVER A WEEK BEFORE THEY COULD GET TO IT. THE KEY CONTINUES TO BE JAMMED, THE DOORS WON'T LOCK, AND ANYONE COULD STEAL MY CAR AT ANYTIME. I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS ON THE INTERNET, AND SEEMS TO ME A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH SATURN CARS. WHY ISN'T THIS A RECALL?? *TR
THE IGNITION WOULD NOT TURN OFF AND THE KEY REMOVED. I HAD TO PULL THE IGNITION FUSE TO GET THE CAR TO SHUT OFF. I TOWED THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE IT WAS PURCHASED AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY THAT WAS PURCHASED WITH THE CAR. IT COSTS $750 TO REPLACE THE IGNITION AND THE SHIFT LEVER CABLE. *TR
MY WIFE AND I OWN A 2006 SATURN ION WHICH WE BOUGHT USED LAST DECEMBER. LAST NIGHT WHEN PULLING INTO HER PARENTS DRIVEWAY WHILE ON VACATION THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN TO THE OFF POSITION ONCE PUT IN PARK. THE CAR WAS STUCK RUNNING WITH THE KEY IN THE IGNITION AND WOULD NOT COME OUT. FORTUNATELY I HAVE A LITTLE BACKGROUND IN MECHANICS SO WAS ABLE TO PULL OUT THE IGNITION RELAY SWITCH THEN DISCONNECT THE BATTERY(WHICH IS IN THE TRUNK, SO COULDN'T SHUT THE TRUNK EITHER OR I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO CONNECT THE BATTERY AGAIN) JUST SO THE CAR WOULD SHUT OFF AND NOT DRAIN THE BATTERY AS ALL THE ACCESSORIES WERE STILL ON. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS ON THE INTERNET I HAVE FOUND DOZENS AND DOZENS OF DIFFERENT PEOPLE HAVING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE. UNFORTUNATELY MY CAR IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY SO I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS ENTIRE BILL OUT OF POCKET. WHEN AND WHY IS THIS NOT A RECALL YET?? *TR
THE 2006 SATURN ION IGNITION LOCKED ON WITH THE CAR RUNNING IN PARK. THIS SEEMS TO BE A CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH SATURN IONS. THE VEHICLE CAN NOT BE TURNED OFF AND THE KEY CAN NOT BE REMOVED. IT GETS COMPLETELY LOCKED IN PLACE. THE VEHICLE REMAINS RUNNING, WASTING GAS AND COULD BE A SAFETY HAZARD IF SOMETHING ELSE IS HAPPENING AND THE VEHICLE MUST BE SHUT OFF QUICKLY AND CAN'T. THE ONLY WAY TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF IS TO DISCONNECT THE BATTERY AND PULL AN IGNITION FUSE. THE KEY REMAINS LOCKED IN PLACE. I'M PUTTING THIS UNDER 'FUEL SYSTEM-OTHER' BECAUSE THE IGNITION TURNS THE FUEL SYSTEM ON AND OFF. I ORIGINALLY PARKED AND TRIED TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF BECAUSE I SMELLED FUEL. LUCKILY IT WAS COMING FROM SOMEWHERE ELSE AND WAS JUST IN THE AIR. BUT IT WAS SCARY TO SMELL FUEL AND NOT BE ABLE TO SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF. *TR
GOING TO A DINNER AT MOTHERS HOUSE - STARTED THE CAR JUST FINE - ARRIVED AT DESTINATION - PUT THE CAR INTO PARK WENT TO TURN IT OFF - KEY WOULD NOT TURN IT WAS STUCK IN THE 'ON' POSITION AND NOT MOVING PERIOD...HAD TO PULL THE FUSE OUT FOR THE IGNITION - AAA WOULDN'T COME OUT ON A SUNDAY EVENING - NOWHERE IN NORTHWEST ARKANSAS TO DRIVE THE CAR TO BE LOOKED AT BECAUSE EVERYWHERE IS CLOSED - NOW - EVEN THOUGH MY CAR IS OFF THE KEY IS STILL IN IT, AND I HAVE TO ESSENTIALLY PUT A PLASTIC 'KEY' INTO A FITTING UNDERNEATH/INSIDE THE STEERING WHEEL TO TURN OFF AND START MY CAR. ANYONE CAN WALK BY AND TRY TO BREAK INTO MY CAR BECAUSE THEY SEE KEYS IN THE IGNITION - IF I DIDN'T HAVE THE FRIEND THAT NEW SOMETHING ABOUT CARS MY CAR WOULD HAVE OVERHEATED AND PROBABLY CAUGHT ON FIRE, BECAUSE NO ONE WOULD COME OUT AND HELP ME. ...RIDICULOUS! *TR
KEY LOCKED IN IGNITION AND CAR WILL NOT TURN OFF. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE COMPONENT INSIDE OF THE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER FAILED WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE TURNED OFF AND THE KEY COULD NOT BE REMOVED FROM THE IGNITION. SHE EXPLAINED THE ISSUE TO THE DEALER, BUT THEY WOULD NOT ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE REPAIRS. SOME MECHANICS STATED THAT THE DEFECTIVE ITEM WAS MADE OF PLASTIC, RATHER THAN METAL. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THIS FAILURE SHOULD NOT OCCUR TO A NEWER VEHICLE. THE ONLY WAY TO SHUT OFF THE VEHICLE WAS BY REMOVING A FUSE OR DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 30,000.
SATURN ION 3 (2006) INTERMITTENT POWER STEERING FAILURE. *TR
EVERY NOW AND THEN MY KEY FELT 'ROUGH' IN THE IGNITION. ON 7/4/2008 I GOT IN THE CAR (IT WAS PARKED ON A STEEP INCLINE) AND THE KEY WOULD NOT TURN OVER. MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS THAT MY STEERING WHEEL WASN'T LOCKED, BUT EVEN AFTER TURNING THAT (IT NEVER DID SEEM TO LOCK), THE KEY STILL WOULDN'T BUDGE. IT EVENTUALLY TURNED OVER. BETWEEN 7/4/2008 AND 7/8/2008 THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED ALMOST EVERY SINGLE TIME I STARTED MY CAR. THE ONLY TIMES WHERE IT WASN'T SEVERE WERE WHEN I WAS PARKED ON A COMPLETELY LEVEL SURFACE SUCH AS A GARAGE. I CALLED THE SATURN DEALER AND TOOK MY CAR INTO BE SERVICED. THE ENTIRE IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER HAD TO BE REPLACED. MY KEY STILL FEELS 'ODD' AND I DO NOT HAVE FAITH THAT THIS PROBLEM IS RESOLVED. MY CAR HAS 27,140 MILES AND WILL TURN THREE ON NOVEMBER 7, 2008. THIS IS IN ADDITION TO HAVING MY STARTER REPLACED IN EARLY JANUARY 2008. IN DECEMBER 2008 THE CAR LOST ALL POWER AND DIED WHILE DECELERATING ON AN EXIT RAMP AFTER DRIVING 30 MILES STRAIGHT. *TR
THE VEHICLE WAS IN GREAT CONDITION, THE INCIDENT WAS ALL A SUDDEN. I COULD NOT TURN OFF MY CAR AND THE KEY WOULDN'T COME OUT. BECAUSE IT WAS A HOLIDAY, I HAD TO SIT IN MY VEHICLE ALL NIGHT UNTIL IT RAN OUT OF GAS. I HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REPLACED MY IGNITION SYSTEM FOR $451.51+TAX. I HAD A CONVERSATION WITH A MECHANIC AT A DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THE FAILURE WAS COMMON WITH MY MAKE AND MODEL OF VEHICLE. *TR
IN JULY 2008, THE POWER STEERING ON OUR 2006 SATURN ION (APPROXIMATELY 55,000 MILES) TURNED OFF WHILE EXITING AN INTERSTATE. THE FAILURE NEARLY CAUSED A SERIOUS COLLISION, BUT I WAS ABLE TO REGAIN CONTROL. POWER STEERING CONTINUED TO TURN OFF AT RANDOM AFTER THAT. THE CAR DEALER HAD TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING COLUMN (AN $1,100 EXPENSE) TO FIX THE ISSUE, WHILE DENYING THERE WAS A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THE POWER STEERING. I WAS UNAWARE OF THIS SITE AND SO DID NOT REPORT IT AT THE TIME. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 SATURN ION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE COULD NOT MANUALLY TURN OFF THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE IGNITION MODULE LOCKED ON ITS OWN. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE IGNITION CYLINDER WAS CORRODED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT THE COST OF $400. SHE IS IN THE PROCESS OF HAVING THE CYLINDER REPAIRED. IN ADDITION, THE PASSENGER AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR WOULD ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT CONTROL PANEL, WHICH MEANT THAT THE AIR BAG WAS INOPERATIVE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE AIR BAG SENSORS AT THE COST OF $800. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD PARTIALLY REIMBURSE HER IN THE AMOUNT OF $398.80. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 58,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
I PURCHASED A 2006 SATURN ION IN JUNE, 2008. I HAVE NOT HAD AN ACCIDENT WITH THIS VEHICLE, BUT I AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE POWER STEERING. I DON'T EVEN HAVE 50 THOUSANDS MILES ON THE CAR AND YET THE POWER STEERING IS CAUSING ME TO VEER OFF THE ROAD TO TURN A CORNER. THE STEERING GETS SO TIGHT THAT I CAN BARELY TURN THE VEHICLE, I CHECK WITH THE SATURN DEALERSHIP AND IT WOULD COST ME $1,000 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. SEVERAL MECHANICS HAS SAID THAT IT COULD BE A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND THAT I SHOULD LOOK INTO IT. PLEASE, IF YOU CAN BE OF HELP IN ASSISTING ME WITH FINDING ANYTHING OUT BEFORE I DO CRASH INTO A POLE OR DITCH, I WOULD APPRECIATE IT SO MUCH. IN 2008 MY KEY WAS STUCK IN THE IGNITION NOT ALLOWING MY CAR TO SHUT OFF. AFTER SEVERAL HOURS IN THE BLAZING SON WITH MY SON, A TOW TRUCK CAME AND HAD TO DISCONNECT MY BATTERY AND TAKE OUT THE IGNITION RELAY JUST TO GET MY CAR TO STOP RUNNING. MY CAR ALMOST OVER HEATED AND RAN OUT MOST MY GAS.THE IGNITION CYLINDER AND SWITCH WAS REPLACED COSTING OVER SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS. NOW IN 2012 THE SAME THING HAS HAPPENED AGAIN. I WAS QUOTED ANOTHER SIX HUNDRED AND EIGHTY DOLLARS TO REPLACE IT AGAIN. SINCE I DO NOT HAVE THE FUNDS TO REPLACE SUCH A COSTLY UNEXPECTED REPAIR I AM FORCED TO LIVE WITH A CAR THAT I CAN NOT DRIVE. MY KEY IS STUCK IN THE IGNITION NOT ALLOWING ME TO LOCK MY DOORS WHICH LEAVES MY CAR OPEN FOR ANYONE TO DESTROY IT OR ROB IT. SINCE YOU CAN ONLY ACCESS THE BATTERY BY THE TRUCK AND THE TRUNK CAN ONLY BE OPENED BY KEY OR AUTOMATIC KEY RING. I CAN NO LONGER ACCESS MY BATTERY TO HOOK IT BACK UP. THIS IS BECAUSE THE ONLY OTHER WAY TO GET TO OPEN THE TRUNK IS BY HAVING THE SEATS DOWN IN THE BACK AND CLIMBING THROUGH THE TRUNK TO OPEN IT. EVEN IF SOMEONE ELSE DOES OPEN THE TRUNK. CONNECTING THE BATTERY AND DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY IN HUNDRED DEGREE WEATHER IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. SINCE BEING DIAGNOSED WITH AN AUTOIMMUNE DISORDER I CAN NO LONGER DUE SUCH THING. MY HUSBAND AND I CRASHED FRONTEND FIRST INTO A TREE AT APPROXIMATELY 60MPH. THE PASSENGER AIRBAG LIGHT INDICATED THE AIRBAG WAS ON. NEITHER AIRBAG DEPLOYED. THE MOTOR OF THE CAR IS PARTIALLY IN THE FLOORBOARD OF THE CAR. I SUSTAINED LIFE-THREATENING INJURIES AND WAS HOSPITALIZED FOR ALMOST 5 WEEKS. I HAD TO ENDURE 8 WEEKS OF OUT-PATIENT PHYSICAL THERAPY AND STILL HAVE FOLLOWUP VISITS WITH SEVERAL DOCTORS INCLUDING NEUROPSYCHOLOGY, PLASTIC SURGEON AND ENT / HEAD AND NECK SURGERY. *TR
OUR ION EXPERIENCED A LOSS OF POWER WHILE DRIVING FULL SPEED ON THE INTERSTATE MULTIPLE TIMES BETWEEN 2006 AND 2008. A CAR HAD BACKED INTO THE ION WHILE PARKED IN A LOT AT ONE POINT, SO WE THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE RELATED TO THAT, BUT OUR EXPERIENCE SEEMS TO BE IDENTICAL TO THOSE REPORTED UNDER THE RECALL. WE ATTEMPTED TO HAVE IT FIXED SEVERAL TIMES AT GM DEALERSHIPS. THE LAST FIX INVOLVED REPLACING ALL THE MAIN WIRES IN THE MOTOR. AFTER THAT, THE IGNITION SEEMED TO BE TIGHTER, AND THE STALLING STOPPED, BUT THE CAR WOULD THEN NOT START, INTERMITTENTLY. IT WOULD RANDOMLY GO INTO LOCK DOWN MODE FOR 10 OR SO MINUTES. JUST THOUGHT WE WOULD ADD OUR EXPERIENCE TO THE STATISTICS. IT WAS VERY DANGEROUS, AND WE EASILY COULD HAVE DIED. WE DO STILL HAVE THE CAR- COULDN'T AFFORD ANOTHER.
