I WAS SITTING IN MY CAR, WAITING FOR SOMEONE TO BRING OUT SOMETHING. THE CAR ONLY HAD JUST OVER 100 MILES ON IT, AND I'D ONLY DRIVEN IT 3 TIMES (INCLUDING THIS ONE) WHEN SUDDENLY THERE WAS A CRACK SOUND AND A LARGE (1'-1.5') CURVED CRACK APPEARED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. I CALLED MY DEALERSHIP (THE CAR WAS A WEEK IN MY POSSESSION THE DAY THIS HAPPENED) AND TOLD THEM WHAT HAD HAPPENED. IMMEDIATELY THEY BEGAN TELLING ME THAT I MUST HAVE BEEN HIT BY A ROCK. I TOLD THEM THAT I WASN'T MOVING AND THEY SAID TO BRING IT IN. WHEN I ARRIVED THE WOMAN WHO 'HANDLES ALL THEIR GLASS CLAIMS' TOLD ME THAT A ROCK HAD HIT MY WINDSHIELD. I TOLD HER AGAIN THAT IT HAD NOT, THAT I HAD NOT BEEN MOVING, AND THAT THE ONLY TIME THE CAR WAS NOT BEING DRIVEN BY ME, WAS WHEN THE DEALERSHIP HAD IT, AND THAT AT NO TIME THAT IT WAS IN MY POSSESSION DID A ROCK HIT IT. SHE INSISTED THAT THE CRACKS DON'T JUST HAPPEN ON THEIR OWN AND THAT A ROCK MUST HAVE HIT IT. *TR
Battery issue: 2020 Subaru Outback When I purchased the vehicle in April 2020 I drove it for 3 Months then the battery died. The Dealer told me it was a faulty battery and then replaced it. (Battery #2) For the last year and a half I've been experiencing Problems starting/Navigation & Display Screen not working correctly. Three days ago guess what happened? My Battery died again....Called the Dealer and they told me to bring it right down and they'll look at it. They charged the battery and said you're good to go! I told them that is not the answer because as soon as I leave the battery is going to die again! They looked at me and said OK we'll put it on the big diagnostic machine and sure enough it came back with a need a new battery report! So they replaced it! (Battery #3). On the way home from the dealership I turned to my wife and said this car is not safe. It's like driving a moving time bomb. You'll never know when it's going to die again. That's when I decided to look it up and there it was "Subaru Battery law suit". Could you please help me? WITH ONLY 170 MILES ON THE ODOMETER, I WENT TO START MY OUTBACK AND IT WOULD NOT START. HAD ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE COME AND JUMP THE CAR, WHICH RESULTED IN THE CAR STARTING. I THEN PARKED IT IN MY GARAGE OVERNIGHT. WHEN I WENT TO START IT IN THE MORNING, THE BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DEAD AND I COULD NOT EVEN UNLOCK THE DOORS WITH THE REMOTE. I DRINK 10 MILES ROUND TRIP ON AN AVERAGE DAY TO/FROM WORK AND HAD THE CAR FOR A TOTAL OF 4 DAYS BEFORE THIS HAPPENED.

EVANSTON SUBARU LOCATED AT 3340 OAKTON ST, SKOKIE, IL 60076, (847) 869-5700, AND WERE MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INFORMED OF FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.
I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR ONLY THREE MONTHS, AND THE ENGINE HAS FAILED TO START >5 TIMES, WHILE STATIONARY. I HAVE HAD TO GET SEVERAL JUMP STARTS, AND THE BATTERY WILL RUN AGAIN FOR A FEW DAYS OR WEEKS BEFORE SEEMING TO DIE AGAIN. I TOOK THE CAR TO AN AUTOSHOP AND THEY SAID THE BATTERY SEEMED FINE TO THEM, BUT THE CAR CONTINUES TO HAVE FAILURES WITH STARTING THE ENGINE. I HAVE HAD SAFETY FEATURES DYSFUNCTION WHILE I WAS DRIVING, AND ONE OF THEM LED TO AN ACCIDENT WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I HAVE BEEN STRANDED A FEW TIMES, AND LOST HOURS FROM MY JOB.
PARKED THE VEHICLE IN THE GARAGE FOR THE NIGHT AND WHEN I WOKE UP THE FOLLOWING DAY I SAW A CRACK ACROSS THE MIDDLE OF WINDSHIELD. CRACK LOOKED LIKE IT STARTED ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND CONTINUED TO THE MIDDLE OF THE WINDSHIELD. *TR
WE BOUGHT THE CAR NEW AND THE BATTERY HAS FULLY DRAINED THREE TIMES SINCE THE PURCHASE A MONTH AGO. WE TOOK IT IN TO BE EVALUATED AND WERE TOLD THE BATTERY WAS FINE. WE NOW HAVE HAD TO JUMPSTART THIS CAR THREE TIMES AND IT HAS LESS THAN 200 MILES ON IT. *TR
WINDSHIELD CRACKED FOR NO REASON. THE CAR ONLY HAS 300 MILES ON IT. THE CAR WAS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY. *TR
THERE IS NO WAY TO DISABLE THE AUTO START/STOP SYSTEM. IN FLORIDA THE TEMP CAN GET OVER 95 DEGREES. AFTER 10-15 SECONDS OF THE CAR BEING OFF THE CAR STARTS TO HEAT UP. MY WIFE WHO HAS BREATHING PROBLEMS STARTS HAVING PROBLEMS. I HAVE ASK THE DEALER TO PERMANENTLY DISABLE THIS FEATURE BUT THEY SAID NO. YOU CAN DO IT EACH TIME YOU START THE CAR BUT IT IS SEVERAL SCREENS DEEP ON THE INFORMATION SYSTEM. PEOPLE WHO DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR OFTEN (LIKE MY WIFE) WOULD HAVE TROUBLE TURNING THIS FEATURE OFF AND COULD PASS OUT SITTING AT A LIGHT. I RECOMMEND SUBARU OFFER A WAY TO DISABLE THIS FEATURE FOR PEOPLE WHO HAVE BREATHING ISSUES. AT A VERY MINIMUM THEY NEED TO MOVE THE DISABLING OF THIS FEATURE ON EVERY START TO THE MAIN INFORMATION SCREEN WHERE ANYONE CAN FIND IT.
WHILE DRIVING ON EXPRESSWAY AT 70 MPH THE PASSENGER SIDE WINDSHIELD CRACKED ABOUT 5 INCHES FROM THE SIDE OF THE GLASS. WHEN STATIONARY THE CRACK CONTINUED TO EXPAND. *TR
WINDSHIELD CRACKED WITH NO VISIBLE PROJECTILES. CRACK CONTINUED TO GROW AFTER INITIAL CRACK WITH US FEARING THE WINDSHIELD WAS ABOUT TO CAVE IN ON US. *TR
WHILE PARKED IN A STATIONARY POSITION IN A PRIVATE PARKING LOT FOR APPROXIMATELY 12 HOURS OVERNIGHT, THE WINDSHIELD CRACKED IN AN "S" SHAPE FROM THE LEFT EDGE ALL THE WAY TO JUST A FEW INCHES SHORT OF THE CENTER.
The contact owns a 2020 Subaru Outback. The contact stated that two months after purchasing the vehicle new, the windshield cracked upon sustaining a light impact. Additionally, the contact stated that the windshield had also cracked from cold air inside the vehicle and the hot air outside the vehicle. The contact also stated that a tiny crack on the windshield would significantly expand within hours. The contact stated that the windshield had been replaced three times by the dealer, and the repair was covered by the insurance; however, the failure kept recurring. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 35,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON ENTERING THE VEHICLE, SHE NOTICED A CRACK HAD FORMED ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD. THE CONTACT CALLED FRANK FLETCHER SUBARU (3430 E 20TH ST, JOPLIN, MO 64801) WHO REFERRED HER TO THE MANUFACTURER FOR ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THE MANUFACTURER AGREED TO REPAIR THE WINDSHIELD FREE OF CHARGE. SOON AFTER THE REPAIR, THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH, ANOTHER CRACK HAD FORMED ON THE BOTTOM DRIVER'S SIDE WINDSHIELD, WITHOUT IMPACT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CRACKS OBSTRUCTED HER VISION WHILE DRIVING. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS OFFERED AN INCENTIVE TO TRADE THE VEHICLE IN FOR A 2021 SUBARU OUTBACK. THE CONTACT AGREED TO THE TRADE OFFER AND RETURNED THE VEHICLE TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 10,000.
PARKED VEHICLE, WINDSHIELD STARTED CRACKING FOR NO REASON, CHECKED SECURITY CAMERAS, NOTHING EXPLAINS IT.
OUR WINDSHIELD CRACKED FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE CAR IS ONLY A FEW MONTHS OLD AND HAS 4000 MILES ON IT. I NOTICED THE CRACK WHILE THE CAR WAS IN OUR GARAGE. I SEEMS TO HAVE HAPPENED WHILE THE CAR WAS STATIONARY. THIS SEEMS LIKE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. I NEED TO CONTACT THE SUBARU DEALER TO SEE WHAT THEY SAY.

I GOT INTO MY CAR ONE MORNING AND THE WIND SHIELD WAS CRACKED AT THE MID/LOWER BOTTOM. GLASS SHARDS WERE PRESENT IN 1 LOCATION AND OVER TIME THE CRACK SPREAD AND ANOTHER LOCATION W/ CHIPS/SHARDS WAS PRESENT. *TR
HAD NEW 2020 OUTBACK LESS THAN 3 WEEKS AND NOTED HAIRLINE STRESS CRACK (NO CHIPS) ON OUTSIDE LAMINATE OF WINDSHIELD, NEAR PASSENGER SIDE CAMERA, 3.25 INCHES LONG. I WAS WASHING THE WINDSHIELD IN MY DRIVEWAY WHEN I NOTICED THE CRACK. THERE ARE PREVIOUS REPORTS OF DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELD GLASS WITH THIS MODEL. PHOTO ATTACHED. *TR
TRAVELING ON THE FREEWAY ON A SLOW RAINY DAY (~45MPH), A PEBBLE? HIT MY WINDSHIELD WHICH CRACKED AN AREA AS LARGE AS A PENNY NEAR THE WIPERS. RIGHT AWAY, THE CRACK STARTED TO PROPAGATE TOWARDS THE TOP OF THE WINDSHIELD, MAKING LARGE CRACKLING NOISES. LATER I FOUND OUT THAT IT HAS ALSO EXTENDED TO THE AREA BELOW THE WINDSHIELD SEAL (BY THE HOOD). I HAVE HAD A FEW CARS BEFORE AND ALL HAVE HAD ROCKS HIT THEIR WINDSHIELD. NEVER HAD I SEEN SUCH EASY YIELD IN WINDSHIELD GLASS TO SUCH LIGHT IMPACT. *TR
DRIVING ON INTERSTATE AT HIGHWAYS SPEEDS, SMALL PEBBLE (MOST LIKELY) STRUCK WINDSHIELD, COULD NOT SEE THE PEBBLE, WAS NOT VERY LOUD. SEEMED INSIGNIFICANT BUT WHEN I ARRIVED AT MY DESTINATION 10 MINUTES LATER CRACKS HAD STARTED EMANATING FROM THE SPOT WHERE THE PEBBLE STRUCK. I'VE NEVER SEEN A WINDSHIELD BREAK SO EASILY, STUFF GETS KICKED UP ALL THE TIME ON THIS INTERSTATE. *TR
WINDSHIELD CRACKED WAY TOO EASILY. *TR
Two issues. Main cabin computer reboots randomly. This causes other safety systems, Eyesight, to stop working until the device boots back up. This is 2020 and "fix" / update for cockpit control module wasn't available until Feb. 2021.Thsi did not fix the problem. Dealership updated cockpit control module again in Dec 2021 and yet again in Jan. 2022. This issue is still ongoing and I've learned yet another software fix came in April 2022. Issue #2 - Open recall for CVT Chain guide breakage dated Dec 15, 2021. Over six months and no fix. Transmission is getting worse and poses a potential safety issue.
MY 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK WAS PARKED IN MY HOME GARAGE FROM ABOUT NOON ON TUESDAY UNTIL I TRIED TO GO AT ABOUT 4 PM THE NEXT SUNDAY. THE CAR WOULD NOT START AND THERE WAS NO CLEAR REASON WHY. I CALLED FOR ROAD SIDE SERVICE AND MADE ARRANGEMENTS FOR THEM TO COME MONDAY MORNING TO TRY A JUMP START AND TOW IT INTO THE DEALER IF NEEDED. AT THAT POINT, I HAD THE CAR FOR 3 WEEKS AND IT HAD 2 MINES ON IT. MONDAY MORNING I CALLED THE DEALER TO LET THEM KNOW OF THE PROBLEM. THEY SUGGESTED THAT I WAS NOT DRIVING IT ENOUGH AND MAYBE I SHOULD GET A BATTERY TENDER TO KEEP THIS FROM HAPPENING. I WAS NOT AT ALL PLEASED WITH THEIR SUGGESTION AND DO NOT PLAN ON FOLLOWING THEIR ADVICE. I DID SOME ADDITIONAL RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND FOUND THAT THIS IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM THAT SUBARU AND THEIR DEALERS ARE UNWILLING TO RESOLVE. AND, IT SEEMS THAT ITS NOT JUST THE BATTERY BUT SEVERAL CAR COMPONENTS KEEP RUNNING AFTER THE CAR IS SHUT OFF AND THAT WOULD RUN DOWN ANY BATTERY THAT IS IN THE CAR. I NEED RELIABLE TRANSPORTATION AND THIS NEW CAR IS NOT ABLE TO PROVIDE THAT. *TR
NEW 2020 OUTBACK, TOURING WITH LESS THAN 400 MILES..WINDSHIELD CRACKED WHILE DRIVING. NO OTHER VEHICLES IN AREA. *TR
WE PURCHASED A 2020 OUTBACK LIMITED 4/28/2020. THE SALESMAN, [XXX], DELIVERED THE CAR TO OUR HOME ON 5/1/2020. THE SECOND TIME WE DROVE THE VEHICLE, 5/6/2020, A CRACK SUDDENLY APPEARED ON THE LOWER PASSENGER SIDE OF THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AS WE WERE DRIVING ON AN INTERSTATE HIGHWAY. (MY HUSBAND IS AN ATK AMPUTEE AND WANTED TO PRACTICE DRIVING THE CAR WITH HIS PROSTHETIC LEG BEFORE DRIVING 30+ MILES TO A DOCTOR APPOINTMENT.) THERE WAS NO APPARENT REASON FOR THE CRACK AS THERE WERE NO AUTOMOBILES AROUND US. WE ALREADY HAD AN APPT TO RETURN THE CAR TO THE DEALER THAT WEEK TO INSTALL OPTIONS WE HAD PURCHASED AT SALE. AT THAT TIME WE LEARNED THE WINDSHIELD WAS NOT PART OF THE WARRANTY AGREEMENT WE HAD SIGNED AND THE FINANCE AGENT IN NO WAY ENCOURAGED US TO SIGN THAT PORTION OF THE AGREEMENT. NOR DID HE INFORM US OF THE HIGH COST OF WINDSHIELD REPLACEMENT AND ELECTRONICS RE-CALIBRATION. WE PAID $1143.34 TO REPLACE THE FRONT WINDSHIELD AND RE-CALIBRATE THE ELECTRONICS. OUR INSURANCE WAS A $1000 DEDUCTIBLE WOULD WOULD NOT ALLOW FILINGS FROM DEALERSHIPS AS THEY ARE NOT APPROVED REPAIR SITES. At the beginning of 05/2020 while I was driving, for no apparent reason, my front windshield cracked. The crack began from the upper edge of the windshield in the area of rear view mirror. As stated, the crack started with no apparent reason as there was no impact of any object to the windshield at the time the crack first occurred. No police report was made. I made an insurance claim to replace the windshield and to recalibrate the eyesight system. The windshield was replaced at Subaru dealership in Skokie IL, on 05/30/2020.
WINDSHIELD CRACKS UNREASONABLY IN DEICER AREA. CRACKS CONTINUOUSLY GROWING, EVEN WITHOUT TRAVEL OR VIBRATION. CAR HAD LESS THAN 500 MILES. *TR
I HAD MY CAR FOR A WEEK AND IT COMPLETELY DIED. BRAND NEW CAR AND THE BATTERY DRAINED. CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY TOLD ME IF I DON'T DRIVE IT FOR 7 DAYS IT IS NOT UNCOMMON FOR THIS TO OCCUR. THE CAR HAS LESS THAN 70 MILES ON IT AND COMPLETELY DIED. THE CAR WAS STATIONARY IN A PARKING GARAGE. *TR
I LEASED MY 2020 OUTBACK 5 MONTHS AGO AND THIS IS THE SECOND TIME THE WINDSHIELD EASILY CRACKS AFTER A SMALL OBJECT HIT THE GLASS AND MADE A LOW SUBTLE NOISE. I HAVE ENCOUNTERED SCENARIOS AS SUCH PREVIOUSLY WITH OTHER NON-SUBARU BRAND CARS AND NONE OF THE WINDSHIELDS CRACKED. CLEARLY THE QUALITY OF THE GLASS IS TERRIBLE AND DEFECTIVE. THERE EVEN SEEMS TO BE A BIG CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT REGARDING SUBARU WINDSHIELDS.
I HAVE A 2020 OUTBACK LIMITED AND THE FRONT WINDSHIELD HAS CRACKED TWICE ON IT WHILE DRIVING ON I-75 IN TN. BOTH TIMES A SMALL STONE KICKED UP BY A PASSING CAR HIT THE WINDSHIELD AND BEFORE I COULD GET IT CHECKED OUT BY SAFELITE; IT CRACKED HORIZONTALLY. I HAD THE WINDSHIELD REPLACED AND PAID $1035 TO HAVE IT REPLACED BY A SUBARU DEALER AND LESS THAN TWO WEEKS LATER, ANOTHER SMALL STONE KICKED UP BY A CRV PASSING ME HIT THE NEW SUBARU WINDSHIELD. AGAIN, IT IMMEDIATELY CRACKED HORIZONTALLY AND NOW I WILL HAVE IT REPLACED A SECOND TIME. THERE IS APPEARS TO BE SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE QUALITY OF THE GLASS: TOO THIN? DUE TO THE EYESIGHT SYSTEM NEEDING A VERY OPTICALLY PURE GLASS; PERHAPS THE GLASS IS TOO THIN. BUT THE QUALITY OF THE SUBARU FRONT WINDSHIELD GLASS NEEDS TO BE LOOKED INTO. WE BOUGHT OUR 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK ON 12/16/19. DID A ROAD TRIP FOR 800 MILES IN JAN-2020 WITH NO PROBLEMS. THE CAR CURRENTLY ONLY HAS 2,100 MILES ON IT. ON MAY 1ST WE WENT TO START THE CAR AFTER IT SAT FOR A WEEK OR SO AND THE BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DEAD TO WHERE WE HAD TO USE OUR EMERGENCY MANUAL KEY TO OPEN THE DOOR. WE HAD TO JUMP IT FOR QUITE AWHILE BEFORE IT GOT ENOUGH OF A CHARGE TO START. WE TOOK IT ON AN HOUR DRIVE TO TRY AND GET THE BATTERY RECHARGED. MONDAY MAY 4TH WE TRIED TO START THE CAR AND IT WAS DEAD AGAIN, JUMPED IT AND TOOK IT TO THE SUBARU DEALER. THE DEALER CHECKED THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM AND RECHARGED THE BATTERY. I PICKED IT UP ON TUESDAY THE 5TH AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. WEDNESDAY MORNING THE CAR BATTERY WAS DEAD AGAIN. FRIDAY WE HAD TO JUMP IT TO DRIVE IT TO THE DEALER. WHEN WE GOT HOME THE DEALER CALLED TO SAY THAT OUR CAR THAT WE JUST LEFT WOULDN'T START AND THEY HAD TO JUMP IT. THEY ARE GOING TO CHECK IT OUT ON MONDAY AND LET US KNOW WHAT THEY FIND OUT. *TR
PURCHASED VEHICLE DEC 2019. HAD FIRST WINDSHIELD REPLACED AT OUR COST ON APRIL 29, 2020. HAD CHIP IN THIS WINDSHIELD FIXED AT OUR COST ON JULY 9. 2020. IN OCTOBER 2020, REPLACED WINDSHIELD CRACKED STARTING ON DRIVER'S SIDE FOR NO REASON WHILE ON A MAIN HIGHWAY
THE MORNING OF APRIL 28 I NOTICED A CRACK DEVELOPING ON THE WINDSHIELD OF MY 2020 SUBARU OUTBACK. IT STARTED ON THE PASSENGER'S SIDE BELOW THE WIPER AND IS HEADING UPWARD. THE PREVIOUS EVENING, I HEARD A SMALL ROCK HIT THE WINDSHIELD WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, HOWEVER THERE WAS NO CRACK EVIDENT AT THE TIME. THE NEXT DAY THE CRACK APPEARED AND THERE IS A VERY SMALL PIT AT THE ROCK IMPACT SITE. THE SIZE OF THE ROCK STRIKE DOES NOT SEEM LIKE IT SHOULD HAVE CAUSED THE ENTIRE WINDSHIELD TO CRACK. THIS IS THE SECOND CRACKED WINDSHIELD ON THIS 3-MONTH OLD CAR.
I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE IN FEBRUARY, 2020. AFTER DRIVING IT LESS THAN 1500 MILES, THE BATTERY DIED, REQUIRING A JUMP START. LESS THAN 2 WEEKS LATER, AND HAVING BEEN DRIVEN ALMOST DAILY, IT WENT DEAD AGAIN. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT SUBARU HAS TO ADDRESS. WHEN I SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT CARLSEN SUBARU, REDWOOD CITY, CA, THEY CLAIMED TO KNOW NOTHING ABOUT IT. THEY OFFERED TO INSPECT THE CAR, BUT WOULD ONLY REPLACE THE BATTERY WITH ANOTHER, EQUIVALENT BATTERY.
SUBARU EYESIGHT LANE CENTERING FAILURE. DATE: 27APR 2020, TIME: ABOUT 9:45AM, LOCATION: I-75 SOUTH BOUND BETWEEN DAYTON AND CINCINNATE OHIO, ABOUT MILE MARKER 29.8. ROAD CONDITIONS: DRY, SUNNY AND BRIGHT.: ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL ON, LANE CENTERING ON. VECHILE MILAGE ABOUT 7700 MILES. WHILE PASSING A SEMI ON THE LEFT, AT THE REAR CORNER OF THE SEMI THE STEERING WHEEL TRIED TO MAKE A HARD SHARP RIGHT TURN.AS IF THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE LANE HAD MOVED WAY TO THE RIGHT. I HAD A HARD GRIP ON THE STEERING WHEEL WHICH WAS THE ONLY THING THAT KEPT ME FROM CRASHING INTO THE LEFT REAR OF THE SEMI TRAILER.. I HAVE NOTICED IN THE PAST THAT THE LANE CENTERING HAS A TENDANCY TO STEER CLOSE TO SEMI'S WHILE PASSING EITHER ON THE RIGHT OR THE LEFT. FOR THIS REASON I TEND TO WATCH CLOSELY WHEN PASSING BUT THIS SUPRISED ME AT HOW HARD THE STEERING TRIED TO EXECUTE A LANE CHANGE, IT WAS ALMOST LIKE SOMEONE JERKED THE STEERING WHEEL TO THE RIGHT. AFTER BRINGING IT BACK ON COARSE THE LANE CENTERING STAYED IN THE PROPER LANE ABET, WANTING TO STAY TOWARDS THE RIGHT SIDE WHILE FINISHING PASSING. LANE CENTERING FUNCTIONED PROPERLY FOR THE NEXT FEW MILES AT WHICH TIME I TURNED IT OFF DUE TO APPROACHING SEVERAL SEMI'S. I DON'T BELIEVE THE SUBARA'S EYESIGHT LANE CENTERING FUNCTION IS RELIABLE. THIS IS ALSO THE SECOND TIME THE LANE CENTERING HAS TRIED TO EXECUTE A LANE CHANGE SINCE OWNING THE VEHICLE.
Car is affected by a known issue with Subaru Outbacks. Almost 100% of the time, when opening the car window(s), they can not be rolled back up. There is a reset function that fails in most instances. This forces the driver to be on the road in driving rain and snow with the driver's window down, creating an extremely dangerous condition.
Since purchase, the transmission occasionally slipped and "clunked". Over the past few months, it has become worse, and now, with increasing frequency, grinds vibrates and shakes. It was taken into the dealership and nothing was done to fix the problem. We feel it represents a clear and present danger that could result in a severe accident.
WIDSHIELD APPEARS TO HAVE SPONTANEOUSLY CRACKED FROM LOWER LEFT HAND EDGE TO A LENGTH OF NEARLY 12' IN FRONT OF DRIVER. VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN OUR HOME GARAGE WITH NO CRACK EVIDENT WHEN PARKED AND CRACK WAS DISCOVERED BEFORE BEING DRIVEN THE FOLLOWING DAY. CRACK APPEARED JUST A DAY AFTER VEHICLE WAS IN DEALER SERVICE FOR AN ECU REPROGRAMMING RECALL.
MY WINDSHIELD DEVELOPED A LENGTHY CRACK FOR NO APPARENT REASON WHILE IT WAS PARKED AT THE AIRPORT FOR ABOUT A WEEK IN EARLY APRIL. *TR
VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT IN NOV. 2019. IT HAS SINCE HAD IT'S WINDSHIELD REPLACED THREE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS ON THE FREEWAY EACH TIME AND THE WINDSHIELD WAS HIT BY A ROCK. NOW I KNOW ROCKS BREAK GLASS, BUT I HAVE NEVER OWNED A VEHICLE WITH SUCH A FRAGILE WINDSHIELD. I'VE OWNED MANY MANY CARS AND NONE HAVE EVER NEEDED THEIR WINDSHIELD REPLACED EVEN AFTER BEING HIT BY A ROCK. CHIPPED YES, BUT NEVER CRACKED ALL THE WAY ACROSS LIKE THIS VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE ALSO HAS A POPPING NOISE THAT COMES FROM THE LEFT FRONT, WHEN TURNING LEFT. THE DEALER CAN'T FIGURE OUT WHAT THE NOISE IS.
AFTER THE CAR HAD SAT FOR ABOUT 10 DAYS, WHEN WE WENT TO USE IT AND INITIALLY WE GOT A LOT OF BELLS AND CHIRPS GOING OFF ALONG WITH NUMEROUS WARNING/INDICATOR LIGHTS. BUT THE STARTER WOULD NOT TURN OVER AT ALL. WE WENT BACK INTO THE HOUSE TO GET THE KEYS FOR OUR OTHER VEHICLE, BUT DECIDED TO TRY AND START THE CAR A SECOND TIME. THIS TIME THE BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DEAD - NO INSTRUMENT LIGHTS CAME ON AT ALL.(AT THE TIME THE CAR HAD A LITTLE UNDER 3200 MILES TOTAL MILES ON IT AND WAS A LITTLE OVER 3 MONTHS OLD). I RECHARGED THE BATTERY THE NEXT FOR A FEW HOURS AND THEN DROVE IT TO THE DEALER THE FOLLOWING DAY. THEY KEPT IT FOR A FEW DAYS BUT COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE BATTERY OR CHARGING SYSTEM, AND NO ACTION WAS TAKEN BY THEM. (NOTE: I HAD ALSO DISCOVERED A SMALL OIL LEAK AT THAT TIME, WHICH THEY FIXED AT THAT TIME) I HAVE SINCE DISCOVERED THAT THERE IS A CLASS ACTION SUIT AGAINST SUBARU REGARDING BATTERY PROBLEMS ON OUTBACK MODEL VEHICLES. TODAY [5-11-20] WHEN I WENT TO DRIVE TO HAVE A BLOOD TEST TAKEN I NOTED THAT THE BATTERY WAS SOMEWHAT LOW (I.E.: THE ENGINE TURNED OVER SLOWER THAN NORMAL). *TR
I purchased the lease for the vehicle in January 2020. I first notified Subaru in Austin of an obvious "glitch" with the computer operating system in April 2020. The "glitchy" OS challenges came and went, I would notify Subaru and they would remedy the issue with a "patch" update at the service center. On April 29 2022 a clear night and a suitably clean vehicle, the RAB system completely failed to recognize/notify/respond to a mailbox behind me, upon impact the mailbox broke the rear windshield. on June 28 2022 the vehicle fails to start, and is "surging" completely draining a new jumper box, and then promptly burning it out, the box will no longer operate. Put in a new battery(#1), make an appointment for service on the vehicle. The dealership replaces the battery(#2), computer updates are completed. Vehicle goes to the body shop for the rest of the work to be completed. 28 days later, I arrive to pick up my vehicle, all work is complete. However the vehicle will not start (again) Auto body shop replaces the battery(#3).on 9/23/2022 after dark, my Subaru Outback 2020 Limited, stops and puts its Parking break on., all dials spike, then dies, rear hatch signal goes off continuously, regardless of its actual state of open/close. The vehicle refuses to jump with a new jumper box. Outback 2020 is successfully jumped by a newer vehic. New battery installed(#4). 9/29/2022 another appointment at Subaru service center to look at my vehicle, they swap out the battery(#5) and update computer. Upon pickup vehicle is without trailer lights, 3 airbag lights on, ABS light on/off. 10/17/2022 appointment at a different service center for an Oil change service, 10/18/2022 diagnostic check appt, 3 blown fuses found. 11/16/2022 Austin service, found many lost comm. codes.- reprograms , engine control module. Outback 2020 intermittently has problems opening and closing hatch/windows, display loading issues, many warning/hazzard lights & signals on/off (from April 2022- present day.)
INFOTAINMENT SYSTEM REPLACED CONTROLLING COMPUTER ON APRIL 17, 2020 AND ON JULY 16, 2020 AN UPDATE WAS PERFORMED DUE TO SYSTEM GOING BLACK
WE HAVE A 2020 OUTBACK AND A CRACK APPEARED STARTING FROM THE DRIVER SIDE LOWER CORNER AND BEGAN MOVING UP AND OUT INTO LINE OF SIGHT. I FOUND THE CRACK WHEN I PULLED OUT OF THE GARAGE.
WE WERE DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY AND NOTICED THAT THE WINDOW HAD A SMALL CRACK WITHOUT HEARING A ROCK OR PEBBLE HIT THE WINDOW. OVER NEXT FEW DAYS THE CRACK WENT ACROSS THE WINDOW. IT SEEMS LIKE THE WINDOWS ARE TOO PRONE TO CRACKS AND CRACK MORE EASILY THAN THEY SHOULD. SUBARU REPLACED THE WINDSHIELD AT NO COST TO US WHICH WE WERE HAPPY ABOUT, BUT WANTED TO DOCUMENT THAT IT SEEMS THEY HAVE MORE FRAGILE WINDSHIELDS IN CASE THIS HAPPENS AGAIN.
VEHICLE HAS UNDER 12K MILES AND THIS IS THE 3RD WINDSHIELD THAT HAS SPONTANEOUSLY HAS CRACKED
My 2020 Subaru Outback has had starting issues since shortly after I purchased the car on 1/31/2020. If I do not drive the car for more than two or three days the car will not start without a jump. On one occasion the battery was completely drained so that the fob key would not even unlock the car. Not long after I purchased the car I spoke to a mechanic at the Subaru dealership regarding the battery drain issue. He offered me no solutions except to say that there are many computers in the Subaru Outback and together they draw a lot of current. I do not know if I received a defective battery or if there is some electrical defect causing excessive battery drain when the car is off.
BATTERY IS INADEQUATE FOR THE ELECTRONICS IN THIS CAR AND WILL BE DEAD IF NOT DRIVEN OFTEN. AFTER BEING A UNABLE TO START MY CAR TWICE WITHIN A MONTH, THE SERVICE MANAGER ADMITTED THIS WAS A DESIGN FLAW, THERE IS NO OTHER UPGRADE OR REPLACEMENT FOR THE BATTERY AND THAT THE FACTORY RECOMMENDATION IS TO DRIVE THE CAR EVERY OTHER DAY. THIS MEANS THAT WHEN I TRAVEL AND LEAVE MY CAR IN AN AIRPORT PARKING LOT FOR A WEEK OR MORE, I WILL NOT BE ABLE TO START THE CAR WHEN I RETURN. THE SERVICE MANAGER TOLD ME TO DISCONNECT THE NEGATIVE POST AT THE AIRPORT, THEN RECONNECT THE POST WHEN I RETURN. I AM A 65-YEAR OLD WOMAN AND NOT A MECHANIC. THIS CAR IS UNRELIABLE AND IS A SAFETY RISK FOR ME WHEN I RETURN TO A PARKING LOT LATE AT NIGHT AND MY VEHICLE WILL NOT START. IT HAS LESS THAN 5,000 MILES. *TR
A LARGE CRACK FORMED ON THE DRIVER SIDE AT EYE LEVEL. I'VE NEVER SEEN A WINDSHIELD BREAK SO SUDDENLY AND ABRUPTLY WHILE DRIVING. IT DISTRACTED ME FOR ABOUT 10 SECONDS AS I WAS WATCHING THE CRACK GET LARGER. I WAS DRIVING AT 50 MILES PER HOUR ON THE ADAPTIVE CRUISE CONTROL. THE CRUISE CONTROL LOST VISIBILITY AND TURNED OFF IMMEDIATELY. FROM MY UNDERSTANDING THE WINDSHIELDS ARE MADE TO MEET THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO SAVE COSTS. SUBARU DOES NOT COVER WINDSHIELDS AND THE EYE SIGHT CALIBRATION IS WAY TOO EXPENSIVE FOR ME TO TAKE ON PERSONALLY. A COMPANY WHOSE REPUTATION IS BUILT ON SAFETY SHOULD NOT BE CUTTING CORNERS ON THE WINDSHIELDS.
