NHTSA Owner Complaint Log
This page lists owner-reported complaints filed with NHTSA for the 2009 Toyota Camry. Complaints are unverified consumer reports submitted to NHTSA and do not by themselves prove a defect or defect rate.
While driving my seat squeaks as if the bolts are loose.
Excessive oil consumption, a sticky dash and power window switch
I drove my son’s 2009 Toyota Camry recently and encountered a serious safety concern. When driving into direct sunlight, visibility was significantly impaired due to intense glare reflecting off the dashboard and onto the windshield. The reflection made it difficult to clearly see the road ahead. This is not a cleaning or maintenance issue. The dashboard surface is no longer matte as designed. It has become glossy and reflective due to the well-documented Toyota “melting” or “sticky” dashboard defect that affected many 2009-era Toyota and Lexus vehicles. As the dashboard material degrades, it creates a reflective surface that directly contributes to dangerous glare while driving. This condition presents a genuine safety risk, particularly during sunrise and sunset, when glare is already a known driving hazard. Unfortunately, I understand that Toyota’s warranty enhancement program for this issue has expired, despite the defect continuing to pose a safety concern. I wanted to formally document this issue as a visibility and safety hazard and request guidance on whether Toyota will address this condition given its direct impact on safe vehicle operation.
The contact owned a 2009 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while her daughter was driving at approximately 40 MPH, another vehicle ran a stop sign and collided with the drivers front side of the vehicle and the air bags did not deploy as intended. The contact's daughter sustained chest, knee, and right wrist injuries, and she received medical attention. The contact added that the driver's door was not able to open fully after the collision. The fire department arrived, and a police report was filed, but the report number was not available at this time. The vehicle was towed to an impound lot, where it was later deemed totaled. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and a complaint was filed. In addition, the contact was told that they could not determine what caused the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 200,000.
The vehicle was involved in a rollover crash at 60 mph that ended in striking a tree, which intruded upon the entire backseat area. The driver/passenger airbag(s) did not deploy despite conditions where deployment should have occurred. There were no signs of prior deployment or tampering: to my knowledge, the airbag system had not previously deployed or been serviced for that. The airbag system is available for inspection, as the vehicle was sold to the insurance company. My safety was put at risk as I sustained physical injuries that may have been prevented by airbag deployment. The vehicle was inspected by insurance representatives. There were no prior warning lamps regarding the airbags prior to the crash.
My son wrecked cause of the stickiness of the dashboard the light reflected and he was in an accident . You guys mailed the safest notice to his grandmother at a assisted living facility and I have proof she didn’t get mail there so my son shouldn’t have to suffer we have already put a new motor in it and can’t deive
My grandma bought a 2009 Toyota Camry well kept she passed away in 2019 and she gave me the car what I read second owner has a 10 warranty they said there was a safety recall on the dashboard she was in a nursing home facility and that where her mail went and she was Bedfast and we have proof of that the dashboard is so sticky there is so much glare from it I’ve wrecked and I know the time frame has past but I read the owner had 10 years it is such a great car but I can’t drive it please help me I can provide proof of everything but I’m scared I will get killed
The dashboard has turned into a sticky residue that reflects a blinding glair and is hazardous to see & drive. Toyota has declined to extend the recall warranty to replace the dash even though this is a hazard and has nearly caused accidents. Please help me get Toyota to make good on replacing.
I purchased a 2009 Toyota Camry on [XXX]. After a few years, the dashboard became soft and sticky. During the summer of 2018, I noticed it melting on a hot sunny day. I looked into having it replaced. There was a warranty enhancement notification letter previously sent to me, which stated this type of known problem would be covered for up to 10 years since car was first placed in service. Unfortunately, I didn’t determine this was enough of a problem to me until [XXX]. I missed the warranty extension by 5 days. I contacted Newbold Toyota on June 29, 2018, and the service manager said that after the 10 years, it was the manufacturer's responsibility and there is nothing they can do, except to charge me for the repair. The repair was estimated at approx. $1,500 for the dashboard replacement. At first, I thought "Oh well, I can live with this." But now the dashboard has melted so much that it now reflects sunlight into the windshield so badly that it is has become a safety hazard. It is very difficult to see through the windshield when driving towards the sun or with the sun directly above on a sunny day (even while wearing sunglasses). So the defective dashboard is now causing a very hazardous driving condition. So I contacted the national Toyota Customer Service Center, and they said essentially the same thing as Newbold Toyota. There was nothing they can do now. Since this design/material flaw has caused such a serious hazard when driving the car, and this is now a safety issue, I believe Toyota should be held responsible and should pay for the repair to fix this safety issue. When I purchased this car, I had no idea the dashboard had an expiration date. Had I noticed the melting a few days earlier they would have paid for the replacement. So why does their responsibility to fix this defect/safety issue end after 10 years? I don’t believe Toyota considers this a safety issue, or I believe they would fix it. Thank you. The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while his daughter was driving, the "Check Oil" warning light illuminated. The contact added oil to the engine. The contact was informed that the check oil warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer where an oil consumption test was performed. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine was consuming an excessive amount of engine oil. The contact was adding several quarts of oil every 1,000 miles driven. The vehicle was not repaired due to cost. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and informed the contact that the Extended Warranty had been exceeded. The failure mileage was approximately 137,000.
The engine burned excessive oil and finally the rings and head gasket failed causing the engine to misfire and finally break down at 186,000 miles.
Dash board has become sticky due to the adhesive seeping out; causes major visual impairments while driving due to the reflection of the sun off of the sticky/disgusting/shiny dashboard.
The replaced dashboard ( the first dashboard was replaced due to a recall about melting dashboards) is now melting just like the first one and is causing significant glare in on the windshield. Avoided two (2) near accidents when the glare from the sun impaired my vision of the traffic in front of me.
I bought my 2009 Camry on [XXX] new in Kentucky and have had this vehicle up to the current date of 08-02-2024. In fact, I recently acquired my deceased (2 April 2024) mother's 2009 Camry and will be submitting a claim as well. My vehicle has only been owned by myself and taken extremely good care of and stored in a garage when not being driven. Approximately in June/July 2024 I began noticing that my dashboard was becoming sticky, as though it was actually melting!!!! It would get worse as long as it was out of the garage and was in the sun, heat and humidity. The longer time goes that the car is in these conditions it gets so shiny that the reflection makes seeing difficult!!! I went to the dealership here in Augusta, GA where my mother's vehicle was purchased since I am here resolving her estate and the problem started. Prior to doing this, I got online to do a search to see why this could be happening and discovered many complaints like mine all over the US and there was actually a Class Action lawsuit submitted regarding Toyota not fixing the problem. Also, I discovered there had been a recall or campaign for the 2007-2011 Camry. It had also been extended until 2019. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTIFICATION NOR HAD MY MOTHER OR I WOULD HAVE ALREADY LOOKED INTO THE MATTER EVEN THOUGH I DIDN'T HAVE THE PROBLEM UNTIL NOW!!!!! I was told by the dealer to call corporate. I did and was told to submit a claim, which I did, file#[XXX] on 31 July 2024 and received a response on 1 August 2024 that there wasn't anything Toyota could do because the campaign had expired and it would be at my own expense to get repaired. NOT ACCEPTABLE!!! I CAN'T HELP THAT MY PROBLEM DIDN'T START UNTIL THE CAMPAIGN EXPIRED OR I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF AN ISSUE!!!! IT IS DEFECTIVE MATERIAL AND UNSAFE ISSUES DUE TO THE PROBLEM!!!!!!! UNKNOWN. Oil is leaking and causing smoke whenever I drive for more then 15 mins.
I've been into automobile accidents and the passenger airbag never deployed. Few years back I took my vehicle for the sticky dashboard recall, Toyota replaced it. Few years later the dashboard is sticky and shiny worst than the first time, I called Toyota to get it replaced free of charge and they told me that is not the responsibility and denied to fix the replaced sticky dashboard. I almost have gotten in accidents do to the shiny glare from the dashboard.

My vehicle has been a one owner vehicle, my mother and now me as she passed on 2 April 2024. My vehicle has been stored in a garage except when it is being driven. My vehicle has been taken care of extremely well and maintenance done as required. The oil has been changed every 3,000 miles since it has been owned. Approximately in June 2024 I began to notice my dashboard was sticky, cracking and actually MELTING! It gets worse as long as it is out of the garage,in the heat/sun and humidity for any length of time. The longer times goes that the car is in these conditions it gets shiny that the reflection makes a glare which makes seeing difficult! I went to the dealership where the vehicle was purchased brand new, Milton Ruben, Augusta GA 30907. Prior to going to the dealership, I got online to do a search to see why this could be happening and discovered many complaints like mine all over the US had been submitted in previous years.I began reading the complaints and discovered the problem was due to Toyota using defective material to make their dashboards in Toyota/Lexus vehicles made in 2007-2011.I discovered there had been a recall or campaign for these vehicles, it had been extended once or twice until 2019.MY PROBLEM IS THAT I NEVER RECEIVED ANY NOTIFICATION OR DID MY MOTHER!We would have immediately taken our vehicles into the dealership.I CANNOT HELP THAT THE RECALL OR CAMPAIGN FOR THIS ISSUE HAD EXPIRED PRIOR TO MY CAR SHOWING A PROBLEM!While reading the complaints I noticed there was a class action lawsuit filed, but I don't know the outcome.I was told by the dealership that they were aware of the problem but there wasn't anything they could do except replace the dashboard at my expense.TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE!!!They told me that I would need to call the corporate office to see what they could do.I did, submit a claim, file #240802000525 2 Aug 2024.Toyota didn't reply but was told by the case manager that my case was closed without action. UNACCEPTABLE!!!!
I was driving the vehicle and hit a bump, and the driver side sunvisor dropped down into the sunshield position. I almost got in an accident because I couldn’t see and then I couldn’t get The sunvisor to stay up. This is the fourth sunvisor we have bought from Toyota. All of the three other sunvisors have done the exact same thing and I feel this is dangerous. The people at Toyota confided in me that this is a big problem with many Toyota’s. I am concerned that had my wife been driving she would have gotten in an accident because the sunvisor obstructed the view of the driver. Toyota to charge us $270 for both driver and passenger side sunvisors. Our mechanic put them in for free.
Soon after I purchased this 2009 Camry in June 2022 with only 59K miles, the dash pad became very sticky and it's producing a glare on the windshield making it hard to see at times. When I called Toyota customer service, I was told the recall for this car was only good for 10 years and had expired. I called the previous owner and he stated that Toyota never notified him of this recall. This is a safety issue and should be addressed by Toyota.
I am not complaining about my vehicle, but about the many vehicles on the road today with headlights that are not focused enough, or just TOO BRIGHT. Especially vehicles like pickup trucks that have headlights mounted at about the same height as my windshield and rear window. These vehicles headlights are so bright that they hit all my mirrors and blind me at night from behind. In addition many newer vehicles with "modern style" extra bright and auto dimming headlights as oncoming traffic also blind me to the point where I cannot safely see the road ahead. I appreciate that seeing ahead is important, but with oncoming traffic it is also important that I can see ahead safely as well. Thank You.
The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the oil level was low however, the contact found no indication of an oil leak. While driving at various speeds, the vehicle was smoking. The oil warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed that there was an internal oil leak. The mechanic added oil to the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was unknown.
We (my wife and I) were driving our vehicle Sunday November 5th 2023 in the morning and experienced a serious issue. While on the highway, the car was stuck with the gas petal in the down position (we did not realize this until after we were able to successfully power down the car) and continued to accelerate in an uncontrolled manner. We were fortunate that our breaks were able to stop the car, and we navigated it to the shoulder of the highway. We then put the car in park, all while the engine was full throttled. We powered down the car and removed the keys. We waited a few moments and tried to power the car again - the engine however remained full throttled. We turned the vehicle off once again and then realized the gas petal was stuck in the down position. We were able to manually get the petal unstuck at this time. We have not driven the vehicle since this incident and consider it too dangerous to do so. Since this incident, we have looked up any potential recalls for this issue and have not found any. To answer the questions above: The gas petal/acceleration malfunctioned. The safety of everyone in the vehicle and other drivers on the road were at significant risk. The vehicle has not been driven since, and the issue has not been reproduced. No recalls were found for this VIN. The vehicle has not been inspected since the incident, but otherwise has passed inspection in our state. There were no warning lamps or messages on the vehicle before or after the incident. We believe the manufacturer is responsible for addressing the issue, even though there is not a recall for this particular problem. This is a known issue by the manufacturer, as they have released many recalls for similar models/years and have even created a video on youtube to instruct drivers how to address this issue, if it happens, while driving.
The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, he became aware that the heater was not working. The contact later checked under the hood and observed that the coolant reservoir was empty. The contact refilled the coolant reservoir and checked for any leaks or puddles of coolant underneath the vehicle but found no evidence of a coolant leak. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine block was cracked in two places and that coolant had leaked into the engine and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 141,943.
Dear, I am writing to formally document a complaint regarding the ABS (Anti-lock Braking System) warning lights actuator in my 2009 Toyota Camry Hybrid, I noticed an issue with the ABS system, which prompted the activation of the warning lights on my vehicle’s dashboard. The problem I encountered involves the following: 1. ABS Warning Lights: The ABS warning lights, including the ABS indicator and the brake system warning light, suddenly illuminated on the dashboard without any prior warning or indication of an issue. 2. Braking Performance: Subsequent to the illumination of the warning lights, I noticed a significant decrease in the vehicle’s braking performance, especially during emergency stops and when driving on slippery or wet surfaces. This issue presents a serious safety concern as it impacts the vehicle’s ability to maintain safe braking in various conditions. confirming the ABS actuator as the likely source of the problem. I kindly request that this complaint be addressed promptly, as I believe that a malfunctioning ABS system poses a substantial safety risk to both the driver and other road users. I trust that Toyota’s commitment to customer safety and satisfaction will lead to a quick resolution of this matter. Please contact me at [XXX] or [XXX] to schedule the necessary repairs or to discuss any additional information required. I look forward to your prompt response and a resolution to this pressing issue. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Sincerely, INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Dashboard Melted. Causes a glare and tacky texture. The dash board emits a chemical smell in the car
I have 2009 Toyota Camry LE, the problem is engine oil, if I changed/filled the engine oil in certified stores, but after 400 miles the engine oil is not in the engine chamber I checked the leaks or any other sort of damage but there's nothing like that I verified the same thing with the dealership too. Basically my point is due to extensive consumption of engine oil the engine will brake in the middle of driving and there are chances it will explode and there's a DANGER while driving the car it's like pulled the granite pin and sit above it. And due to this the braking system will fail and the person loose his life and the dependses will be suffered a lot. Please look at this issue. Thank you.

The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while the vehicle was parked inside the driveway, the contact became aware that the plastic covering over the air bag was loose at the front driver’s seat. The contact pushed back the cover however, the cover failed to stay in place. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 75,000.
I brought my car in for a tune up. The day I was driving my car I had the right amount of oil in it. I was driving my car, heard a loud noise and the steering went, the brakes went, nothing worked and than the car shut down and stopped. I brought it to my mechanic, and there was no oil in the car and they went through the whole engine and there was no leaks. Toyota had a recall for engine oil consumption, and I never received a notice yet my year, make and model are part of the "Warrenty Enhancment Program". Now I have a non working car and they are refusing to fix the issue.
The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle started shuddering. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled to the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure persisted upon restarting the vehicle. The oil pressure warning light was illuminated. The contact checked the oil level and noticed that there was no oil in the engine. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that the pistons were locked and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was contacted and informed the contact that they could not assist because the vehicle was out of warranty. The failure mileage was 104,000.
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The ABS light came on and there was this high-pitched beeping noise that would not stop as I was driving, when I tried to press the brakes I noticed that it was barely working and had to pull over on the side. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? I could barely brake as my brakes felt as if they were hard to press which could have led to an accident. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? The traction control light came on a few days prior and a few other related lights that could have been related to the abs. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No
My car (Toyota Camry) was struck in the driver's side door and back passenger door by another car who was traveling at a high rate of speed. The accident resulted in damage to the doors and to the frame of the car. I suffered neck and head injury due to the accident. The side curtain air bag did NOT deploy. The car was inspected by the owner/manager of the auto body repair shop and it was his opinion that given the severity of the accident that the air bag should have deployed. Due to the frame damage and other damage the car is considered by the insurance company to be a total loss.
2 problems oil is burning fast and also Dashboard is melting in sunlight
The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the gloss on the dashboard prevented the contact from properly seeing the roadway. The contact stated that the dashboard was extremely sticky. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 150,625.
The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the dashboard had started to fracture in several places. The dealer was contacted, and an appointment was scheduled; however, the vehicle had not been taken to the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case for the failure. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 20,000. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH, he was unable to see the road due to the reflection from the glossy and sticky dashboard. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. A dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 155,000.
Dashboard is sticky when cold and hot, we have done our best to keep it clean but i have had enough it was hot and my kid leaned on it and it was super hot and the material literally got stuck to her arm and the back of her shirt. I would like this to get taken care off, is not right that they were created this way and people suffer the consequences
The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the dashboard was sticky, causing a shiny glare on the windshield, preventing the driver from seeing through the windshield. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.
My Black 2009 Camry SE has a black sticky/melting dash which Toyota only covered replacement of for a 10 yr period. I didn’t drive it much for the first several years, the odometer now has only 90,000 miles. The sticky dash became an increasingly noticeable safety hazard a couple of years ago. When driving with the sun hitting the sticky, melting, shiny black dash, the glare is blinding to where I cannot see the road. The sun causes the dash to be reflected off the windshield. Yes, the safety of anyone in the car is at risk when the sun is coming through the windshield. It is available for inspection any time. The Rick Hendrick Toyota dealer I used for my cracked dash 4 Runner informed me that if I had been having the Camry regularly serviced at a Toyota dealer then Toyota would have likely covered the dash replacement after the recall period ended. I brought the Camry into Stone Mountain Toyota to replace the recalled brake lamp assembly in Nov 2021. They failed to replace it adequately and so a mile from the dealership the Camry would not move after I stopped at a stoplight. So, no, I have not had either of these Toyota dealers, or any others confirm the issue, since they weren’t going to replace it under warranty anyway. Neither dealer asked to confirm the issue. My wife has confirmed the sticky dash safety glare issue. No warning messages light up when the dash is a safety hazard. Toyota Corp refused to warranty/recall replacement in 2020/2021 even though I explained this safety issue. Today, Dec 7, 2022 I called Toyota Corp again and they again refused to cover replacement of the dash under warranty/recall and referred me to NHTSA.
The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that while starting the vehicle, there was smoke coming from the exhaust pipe. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the piston rings were faulty and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 66,000.
Sticky, shiny, melting dash on camry from manufacturing defect. No recall just a now expired extended warranty. Glare on windshield leaves driving car very dangerous
Sticky, shiny dash on Camry due to manufactuing defect.
I currently a 2009 toyota camry I was financed a year ago not even a year ago. from TKP autos in eastlake, ohio. this car consumes too much oil, so I use marvel mystery oil so every 2300-3k miles I have to change the oil.. also my key fob stopped working, i changed the batteries and they still dont work also the o2 sensors went as well and replaced them twice and they still keep stop working also i found a lot of information on consumer reports that the years 2007-2009 toyota camrys are highly unreliable cars to own or lease. ive seen a lot of complaints and other owners who had the engine sieze on them as well.. these cars are a lemon and not safe to drive also my dash board is very sticky as well from the sun and it turns out that is a melting affect that is dangerous as well also i see the accelerator pedal can give away and that is dangerous as well there should be recalls for the oil consumption and everything else.
At about 60,000 miles, the turn signal popped out making it unsafe to drive. I had the turn signal replaced, then at about 66,000 miles, the horn quit working and the Airbag light came on. This was not only a safety issue but caused the vehicle to fail state inspection. I contacted Toyota to reimburse me for the expense incurred for replacing the Spiral Cable but they refused based on the reason that the 36000 miles warranty had expired. In my opinion, the issue I faced was due to a faulty Spiral Cable and the 36000 miles warranty clause should not apply. There are other Toyota owners who have reported the same issue to NHTSA. 2009 Toyota Corolla was recalled for the same defect but Camry was not. Based on the complaints I have seen, Camry should have been recalled too.
Excessive oil consumption, I was not sent a recall notice on excessive oil consumption of my 2009 Toyota Camry that I purchased on 9/30/2009. Excessive oil consumption relates to the manufacturer defect of the 2009 and other model cars. The pistons and motor did not fit correctly which is causing excessive oil consumption along with other problems that relate to it. I bought my car in 2009, the problem was discovered between 2008-2015. I was not sent a recall notice so I could have brought my car in to fix it. The problem does not show up until the warranty expires or 60,000 later. I was not sent a recall because my car was new and it would be years before the problem starts to happen. I should have been notified regardless. I take good care of my car's maintenance. When I found out about the recall about 2 years ago from google the internet and I saw the class action lawsuits that was field. I still was not notified about the recalls. Now the problem is happening. Please help me I can not afford another car. Everyone should have been notified about the recall.
The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry. The contact stated that the check engine warning light illuminated on the instrument panel. The contact initially took the vehicle to an independent mechanic where the gas cap was replaced. A diagnostic test determined an issue with the emissions system. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer where another diagnostic test was performed and confirmed a defect with the emissions system. The contact was provided an estimate for the repair. The manufacturer was also notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 72,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE HAD A SMOKE TEST PPERFORMED. THE CHARCOAL CANISTER WAS REPLACED.
The BRAKE & ABS lights started coming on although there was no apparent problem. Then, when those lights illuminate on the instrument panel, the speedometer & tachometer stop working. Often, the needles will bounce or they will just set at zero. This can occur at any speed & on all road conditions. This does not affect cruise control in anyway. I can set & stop the cruise control at any time. Eventually, it starts working again but it is totally random. Now, the Air Conditioning stops working when the ABS & BRAKE lights are on. The High Beam instrument panel lights are also affected. The headlights work but the instrument panel does not always reflect this or it shows that High Beams are on when they are not & vice versa. My mechanic could not identify the source of the problem. My research shows that the ABS Module is defective & the problem occurs in 2007-2009 Camrys. Apparently, this problem can be bypassed by disengaging the ABS Module, but obviously, that creates other issues. I have video of this activity but I am unable to upload it here.
The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Camry Hybrid. The contact’s wife stated while driving approximately 30 MPH, the VSC and ABS warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and was diagnosed with needing the brake master cylinder replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact also filed a complaint with the manufacturer. The failure mileage was approximately 154,000.
I own a 2009 Toyota Camry the brake light abs light speedometer engine temp and rpm gauge all stop working or go crazy at random times, as well as my air conditioner when this happens. I have done some research and this is a reaccuring problem in many of the 2007-2009 Toyota models. I have also read that many have had oil consumption problems with this year also. I literally have to put atleast a quart in my motor every week or other week. No need for.an oil change when I’m consuming the new clean oil I’m putting in regularly. As far as the brake lights I replaced the entire brake module assembly with another one I got at junk yard. Problem was only fixed for 2 days and I’m back to square one. Their should be a recall on the brake system if this is a reaccurring issue with these cars.
