THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE BRAKE CODE C1247 STROKE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE RECALIBRATED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000.
MY 2009 CAMRY STARTED BURNING EXCESSIVE OIL I AM GUESSING AT ABOUT 85,000 (TOYOTA DEFINITELY HAS RECORD OF IT). I TOLD THEM ABOUT IT AT MY SERVICE APPOINTMENT AND THEY PUT THE DYE IN AND CHECKED FOR OIL LEAKS. ALL WAS FINE. SINCE IT JUST HAPPENED ONCE I DECIDED THAT MAYBE IT WAS A FLUKE. NOPE. SAME THING HAPPENED SO MY NEXT SERVICE APPOINTMENT I MENTIONED IT AGAIN. THEY TOLD ME I WOULD EITHER NEED A NEW ENGINE OR I WOULD JUST HAVE TO PUT UP WITH IT AND MAKE SURE THERE WAS ALWAYS ENOUGH OIL. IT WASN'T TOO BAD AT THE TIME BECAUSE IT WOULD ONLY HAPPEN EVERY 2,500 OR SO. NOW IT IS HAPPENING EVERY 1,000 MILES, AND I LOOKED ONLINE AND COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW MANY COMPLAINTS THERE ARE FOR THE SAME THING, AND THE FACT THAT THERE IS NO RECALL!!! CAN YOU HELP GET THEM TO FIX IT SINCE THERE ARE SOOOO MANY COMPLAINTS ON THE EXACT SAME SUBJECT?
THIS IS FOR A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY SE 4 DOOR SEDAN. THE DRIVER SIDE VISOR BECOMES COMPLETELY LOOSE AND ROTATES AND FALLS DOWN JUST LIKE ONE WOULD BRING IT DOWN TO BLOCK SUNLIGHT. THIS HAMPERS THE VISION OF THE DRIVER.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING DURING THE DAYTIME, THE SUN CAUSED THE DASHBOARD TO MELT AND IT FELT STICKY WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE SUN CAUSED THE MELTED PART OF THE DASHBOARD TO PRODUCE A GLARE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE WAS NOT REMEDIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 35,000.
I AM DRIVING OUR 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID WHICH MY HUSBAND AND I PURCHASED NEW. I WAS APPROACHING THE CITY OF ANACORTES WA. I HAD BEEN DRIVING ON SR 20 WHICH GOES FROM 55MPH TO 35 MPH AND FROM TWO LANES TO ONE.I AM APPROACHING A LIGHT I HAVE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE WHEN SUDDENLY MY CAR ACCELERATED AS IF I HAD FLOORED IT, HITTING A PICKUP TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME. UPON IMPACT IT MOVED FORWARD AND THEN WITH MY FOOT STILL ON THE BRAKE I HIT IT AGAIN. I HAVE NO IDEA HOW FAST I WAS GOING BUT FOR THAT BRIEF TIME I FELT AS IF I WAS IN A ROCKET. I PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND AT THIS POINT REGAINED CONTROL AND WAS ABLE TO PULL TO SIDE OF ROAD. NO DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK. MY FRONT BUMPER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AS WELL AS BENT LICENSE PLATE. AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CAR WAS PUT ON A FLATBED AND BROUGHT BACK TO OUR RESIDENCE SOME 50 MILES AWAY. NEITHER OF US ARE THRILLED ABOUT GETTING BEHIND THE WHEEL OF THIS CAR AGAIN AND SO IT SITS IN OUR GARAGE.OUR PLANS ARE TO GET RID OF THIS CAR EVEN THOUGH WE LOVED IT UP UNTIL THIS POINT. MY HUSBAND CALLED THE DEALERSHIP YESTERDAY ( 3/30/15) AND THEY REFERRED HIM TO TOYOTA USA. HE SPOKE WITH SOMEONE THERE AND WAS GIVEN A CASE NUMBER HE WAS TOLD HE WOULD RECEIVE A CALL WITHIN TWENTY FOUR HOURS. WELL THAT CAME AND WENT AND WHEN HE CALLED BACK TODAY HE WAS TOLD THE PERSON WHO WAS HANDLING THIS WAS GONE FOR THE DAY HE WAS TOLD SHE ATTEMPTED TO REACH US TWICE. STRANGE SHE NEVER LEFT A MESSAGE. WE ARE AT THIS TIME WAITING FOR RESPONSE. *TR

RE 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY LE WITH 62,100 MILES; ASSEMBLED IN EITHER GEORGETOWN KY, LAFAYETTE OR INDIANA: THE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY FAILED, RESULTING IN THE ILLUMINATION OF VARIOUS WARNING LIGHTS AND THE "RPMS STARTED BOUNCING COMMUNICATION CODE U0073," ACCORDING TO THE DEALERSHIP. IN A 2012 AND 2013 RECALL FOR DIFFERENT TOYOTA VEHICLES, THE RECORD ABOUT THIS SAME FAILURE STATES "(A)N ELECTRICAL COMPONENT WITHIN THE ACTUATOR MAY EXPERIENCE AN INCREASED RESISTANCE RESULTING IN THE ILLUMINATION OF VARIOUS WARNING LIGHTS, INCLUDING THOSE FOR THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL (VSC) SYSTEM, ANTILOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS), AND TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM...[MEANING] THESE SYSTEMS COULD BECOME INOPERATIVE, REDUCING THE DIRECTIONAL CONTROL ASSISTANCE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH." *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE AT A STOP SIGN, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE VEHICLE. ONE DAY LATER WHILE DRIVING 2 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE JERKED, AND FAILED TO STOP. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF ANOTHER VEHICLE AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 09V388000 (VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000.
WHILE DRIVING AT 65 MPH, THE SPEEDOMETER DECREASED TO ZERO. IN ADDITION, THE ABS AND PARKING WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS CONTROL MODULE AND THE ACTUATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 103,737.
AROUND 140,000 MILES (3-1-15) I NOTICED THAT I WAS STARING TO ADD OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. IT HAS BECOME WORSE WITH TIME (AND MILEAGE). I NOW (9-12-16) NEED TO CHECK AND ADD OIL AT LEAST EVERY THREE WEEKS.
OUR CAR BEGAN BURNING EXCESSIVE OIL AROUND 75,000 MILES.AS IT TURNS OUT, THIS PROBLEM IS DUE TO A DEFECTIVE 2AZ-FE ENGINES WHICH WERE INSTALLED IN THE FOLLOWING VEHICLES: 2007-2011 TOYOTA CAMRY HV, 2007-2009 TOYOTA CAMRY, 2009 TOYOTA COROLLA, 2009 TOYOTA MATRIX, 2006-2008 TOYOTA RAV4, 2007-2008 TOYOTA SOLARA, 2007-2009 SCION TC, AND 2008-2009 SCION XB . TOYOTA KNEW ABOUT THE MATERIAL DESIGN DEFECT ENGINES BUT THEY DECIDED TO SELL THE CARS ANYWAY: THE ENGINE DEFECT TYPICALLY BECOMES APPARENT EITHER DURING OR SHORTLY AFTER THE LIMITED WARRANTY PERIOD HAS EXPIRED, SO IT WOULDN'T BE THEIR PROBLEM. IN RESPONSE TO A LAWSUIT IN 2014, THEY ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. HOWEVER, THE GUIDELINES ARE VERY RESTRICTIVE AND ONLY COVER THE MOST EGREGIOUS CASES, LEAVING US WITH A FAULTY ENGINE THAT CONSUMES A QUART OF OIL EVERY 1200-1400 AND NO MEANS OF REPAIRING THE VEHICLE. *TR
IN 2015 I RECEIVED SEVERAL RECALL NOTICES FROM TOYOTA, INC. THE FIRST OF SEVERAL WERE THE SUN VISORS DEFECT. ALTHOUGH MECHANICSVILLE TOYOTA FIXED IT WHEN THEY FIXED THE ENGINE CONSUMPTION PROBLEM IN 2015, IT CURRENTLY HAS THE SAME PROBLEM AS THE VISOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOESN'T STAY UP/DEFECTIVE. THE SECOND, THE DASHBOARD AREA WILL CRACK DUE TO SUN EXPOSURE WHICH IT HAS TINY CRACKS. HOWEVER, THE MAJOR WAS RECALL ON, ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION. MECHANICSVILLE TOYOTA, 6546 MECHANICSVILLE TPKE. MECHANICSVILLE, VA FIXED THE PROBLEM, HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM HAS RETURNED. THIS DEFECT WILL CAUSE THE ENGINE TO LOCK IF OIL CONSUMPTION ISN'T CHECKED AND ADDED REGULARLY.

MOONROOF EXPLODED WHILE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SAN MATEO BRIDGE. IMMEDIATELY HEARD WIND NOISE COMING FROM THE MOONROOF (THE SHADE FORTUNATELY WAS DRAWN). I SAW NO OBVIOUS GRAVEL ON THE BRIDGE AND NO VEHICLES IN MY IMMEDIATE VICINITY THAT MIGHT ACCOUNT FOR IT. THOUGHT FOR A SECOND THAT SOMETHING DROPPED OFF A LANDING PLANE AND REALIZED THAT SOMETHING LIKE THAT WOULD HAVE EASILY PUNCHED THROUGH THE SHADE. I EXAMINED THE DAMAGE LESS THAN TEN MINUTES LATER WHEN I ARRIVED AT MY DESTINATION. SAW SHATTERED GLASS AND A HOLE THAT WAS ALMOST CENTERED. FOUND NO MARKS ON THE TOP SIDE OF THE SHADE TO INDICATE AN OBJECT HITTING. THE EDGES OF THE HOLE TILTED UPWARDS. TEMPERATURE AT THE TIME IS ESTIMATED TO BE LOW 60S, SUNNY, AND NO DISCERNIBLE WIND. INSIDE TEMP WAS SET AT 67 OR 68 AND THE FAN WAS SET ON THE LOW 2 SETTING. MY HUSBAND EXAMINED THE CAR WHEN I RETURNED HOME ABOUT 3 1/2 HOURS LATER. HE SEARCHED THROUGH THE SHATTERED GLASS AND FOUND NO OBJECTS. HE TESTED THE TILTED EDGE TO SEE WHAT FLEXIBILITY IT HAD WHEN I ASKED IF AIR FLOW MIGHT HAVE DISTORTED THE OPENING IN THE GLASS. IT WAS QUITE STIFF AND HE SAID THAT WAS UNLIKELY. HE (PHD IN ENGINEERING) CONCLUDED THAT THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF AN OBJECT AND COMMENTED THE MOONROOF APPEARED AS IF IT SHATTERED UPWARDS DUE TO STRUCTURAL STRESS. I HAVE A NUMBER OF PHOTOS OF THE DAMAGE, ONE TAKEN 10 MINUTES AFTERWARDS, THE REST WHEN I RETURNED HOME. THE TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE IS HOLDING ON TO THE ROCK THEORY. *TR
I HAVE OWNED THIS CAR SINCE NEW ,LIVING IN NEW JERSEY NEVER A PROBLEM. MOVED TO FLORIDA AND THE DASHBOARD SEEMS TO BE MELTING .IT IS EXTREMELY STICKY AND SHINY CAUSING A GLARE ON FRONT WINDSHIELD THAT MAKES IT VERY HARD TO SEE WHEN DRIVING . I HAVE TRIED TO CLEAN IT WITH SOAP AND WATER TO REDUCE THE GLARE AND IT DOESN'T SEEM TO DO ANYTHING .COULD YOU PLEASE TELL ME IF THERE IS ANY RECALL ON THIS CAR. *TR
IN 2012, I STARTED TO NOTICE THE BEGINNING OF MY DASHBOARD MELTING ON MY 2009 CAMRY. THIS HAS GOTTEN PROGRESSIVELY WORSE AS TIME WENT ON. THE ENTIRE SURFACE OF THE DASHBOARD IS STICKY AND SHINY. I CANNOT EVEN TOUCH MY DASHBOARD WITHOUT LEAVING A FINGERPRINT. THERE IS A PUDDLE OF MELTED DASH CLOSER TO THE WINDSHIELD. MY MAIN CONCERN IS THAT THE MELTED DASHBOARD CREATES A GLARE WHEN I AM DRIVING WHICH IS DISTRACTING AND DANGEROUS. THANK YOU. *TR
ON THREE OCCASIONS I PRESS MY BRAKE TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT MY CAR GOING 25MPH OR SLOWER AND MY ABS BRAKES KICK IN AND I HAVE TO SWERVE SO I WOULDN'T HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME.
CHECK VSC SYSTEM AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON. PULLED UP TO A STOP SIGN GOING 25MPH AND HAD DECREASED BRAKE FUNCTION. HAD TO PUSH BRAKE PEDAL VERY HARD TO GET THE CAR TO STOP. BRAKES FUNCTIONED NORMALLY AFTER THAT BUT LIGHTS ARE STILL ON. *TR

THE CONTACT PULLED OVER AND STOPPED THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE RADIATOR OVERHEATED AND CAUSED THE ENGINE TO SEIZE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

IT HAS 80,000 MILES AND BURNS EXCESSIVE OIL. I CHECKED IT YESTERDAY AND THERE WAS NO OIL TOUCHING THE DIPSTICK. IT STARTS CONSUMING OIL TWO YEARS AGO AND NOW IT CONSUMES 3 QUARTS BETWEEN THE OIL CHANGES. *TR
I DIDNT RECEIVE A NOTICE ON RECALL OF DASHBOARD. MY DASHBOARD IS STICKY AND HAS CRACKED. CLEARLY NEEDS REPLACING. PLEASE RESPOND SO WE CAN GET THIS MATTER RESOLVED. STARTED FEW YEARS AGO.
FIRST TO FAIL WAS THE SPEEDO AFTER THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. NO ACTUAL BRAKE PROBLEM BUT THE LACK OF SPEEDOMETER IS UNSAFE. ABS UNIT ESSENTIALLY CONTROLS INSTRUMENT CLUSTER..NOT NECESSARY OR SAFE PLUS DEALER REPAIR PART APPROX $1800.00.
THE DASHBOARD ON MY CAMRY HAS BECOME VERY STICKY AND SHINY CAUSING A BRIGHT GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD. IT IS DIFFICULT TO SEE PAST THE GLARE DURING NIGHT AND DAY DRIVING. IT HAS BEEN DIFFICULT TO DRIVE BECAUSE THE GLARE IS DISTRACTING AND BLOCKS THE FRONT VIEW OF THE DRIVER.
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION
SHINY/STICKY/MELTING DASHBOARD RECALL ON TOYOTA CAMRY. MY MOTHER HAS BEEN HAVING THIS ISSUE FOR THREE YEARS. BEING THAT SHE HAS A LANGUAGE BARRIER SHE WAS NOT AWARE OF A RECALL. TOYOTA STATES THEY SENT HER TWO NOTICES IN 01/15 AND 10/15, WHICH SHE CANNOT RECALL RECEIVING AND WOULDNT HAVE UNDERSTOOD IF THEY WERE IN ENGLISH. NOW SHE DRIVES AROUND WITH THIS DASHBOARD REFLECTING OFF HER WINDSHIELD AT NIGHT AND SOMETIMES DURING THE SUNNY DAYS SO MUCH THAT ITS HARD FOR HER TO SEE THE ROAD. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD, AND I BELIEVE SHE CAN POTENTIALLY GET INTO AN AUTO ACCIDENT. TOYOTA DOES NOT CONSIDER THIS A SAFETY HAZARD OR RECALL, BUT IT SHOULD BE. THE WARRANTY SHOULD REMAIN OPEN UNTIL ALL VEHICLES WITH THIS PROBLEM ARE FIXED!! IF MY MOTHER HAS AN ACCIDENT, TOYOTA SHOULD BE LIABLE!!! TOYOTA SAYS THE EXTENSION FOR THIS WARRANTY ENDED JUST LAST MONTH 07/18, BUT AFTER THE TWO NOTICES IN 2015 THEY NEVER SENT FURTHER NOTICES.
I PURCHASED A NEW 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY SE, AFTER OWNING TEN TOYOTA VEHICLES SINCE 1978. I STILL OWN FOUR TODAY! I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED ANYTHING LIKE THIS ISSUE IN ANOTHER CAR. IN 2014-2015 (ESTIMATED) MY ENTIRE DASH BOARD BECAME STICKY, AS IF I HAD POURED OIL ON IT. TODAY IT RELEASES A THICK STICKY RESIDUE ONTO THE FRONT WINDSHIELD WHEN PARKED IN THE SUN. THIS MAKES THE DASH IMPOSSIBLE TO WIPE... AS TOWELS, SPONGES, EVEN LEAVES, ETC., GET STUCK TO IT (SEE PICS). I CAN'T DRIVE MY CAR WITHOUT FIRST WIPING THE INSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD EACH TIME IT IS PARKED IN THE SUN, OR THIS RESIDUE MAKES IT OPAQUE (SEE PICS...AFTER WIPING IT). THIS SITUATION IS EXACERBATED WHEN DRIVING TOWARDS THE SUN (SEE PICS) AND IS A SAFETY ISSUE!! I'M CONCERNED HOW THE DETERIORATED CONDITION OF MY DASH AFFECTS THE DEPLOYMENT OF THE PASSENGER AIRBAG OR IF IT STILL EVEN OPERATES CORRECTLY? ON 8/16/19, I DISCOVERED THAT TOYOTA EXTENDED ITS WARRANTY TO TEN YEARS FROM THE ORIGINAL PURCHASE DATE. MINE WAS 7/29/09...PUTTING ME ONLY TWO WEEKS OUT OF THEIR 10-YEAR WARRANTY COVERAGE. TOYOTA CORPORATE AND MY DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE IN MY CASE ("1 DAY OR 1 MILE OVER WARRANTY AND WE WON'T HELP"). WHEN CHALLENGED, TOYOTA COULD NOT CONFIRM LETTERS WERE MAILED TO ALL AFFECTED OWNERS, ONLY THAT AN EFFORT WAS MADE TO SEND LETTERS TO SOME OWNERS IN 2015. MULTIPLE MODELS OVER SEVERAL YEARS ARE INVOLVED. I SPENT 8 HOURS ON THE PHONE APPEALING THEIR DECISION, WITHOUT SUCCESS. A NEW DASHBOARD COSTS $2600.00 (INSTALLED)!! I REPORTED THIS ISSUE HERE BECAUSE IT IS A MANUFACTURING/SAFETY ISSUE RESULTING FROM TOYOTA'S USE OF SUB PAR MATERIALS...LIKE DEFECTIVE WINDSHIELD WIPERS...IF YOU CAN'T SEE OUT OF YOUR WINDSHIELD AT FREEWAYS SPEEDS BECAUSE OF THE GLARE FROM YOUR DASHBOARD, OR THE RESIDUE STUCK ON YOUR WINDSHIELD...YOU ARE AT RISK OF AN ACCIDENT. I STARTED THE CAR AND EVERYTHING SEEMED NORMAL. I STARTED ACCELERATING DOWN THE STREET AND THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS UP WITH ALL KINDS OF WARNING LIGHTS. MILEAGE WAS BETWEEN 69000-69450. THE TRACTION CONTROL, BRAKE, MASTER WARNING LIGHT, ABS AND THE CENTER DISPLAY SAID "CHECK VSC SYSTEM". I CONTINUED TO COAST UNTIL A NEARBY STOP SIGN AND WHEN APPLYING PRESSURE TO BRAKE, TO MY HORROR THE BRAKES HAD AN ALMOST COMPLETE FAILURE. I IMMEDIATELY WENT HOME, LESS THAN A MILE AWAY AND THE BRAKES CONTINUED TO MALFUNCTION THE WHOLE WAY. I WAS ABLE TO STOP BUT ONLY WITH SEVERE PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDDLE WHICH ONLY PRODUCED SLIGHT BRAKING. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT. COMING BACK TO THE CAR THE NEXT DAY THE WARNING DASH LIGHTS WERE OFF AND VEHICLE WAS WORKING NORMAL AGAIN. HOWEVER, THIS ALSO HAPPENED THE FOLLOWING DAY HALFWAY THROUGH A SHORT TRIP ACROSS TOWN. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY REPLACED A RECALL PART, THE BRAKE FLUID RESERVOIR. THEY CHECKED THE COMPUTER FOR CODES AND THESE CODES DID NOT SHOW UP IN THE CODE HISTORY DESPITE IT BEING 2 DAYS BEFORE. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN INTERMITTENT AND DID NOT HAPPEN THE DAY I TOOK IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP. DRIVING 55 MPH ON EXPRESSWAY WHEN THE GLASS MOON ROOF EXPLODED. THERE WAS NO OBJECT HITTING IT. AFTER STOPPING TO INSPECT THE DAMAGE, THE GLASS LOOKED AS IF IT WAS SLIGHTLY PUSHED UPWARDS AROUND THE HOLE. THE ENTIRE GLASS AREA WAS CRACKED, THERE WAS A HOLE ABOUT 12" X 5" IN CENTER. *TR
EXCESS ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION. ENGINE OIL KEEP DISAPPEARING. HAVE TO ADD MORE OIL EVERY WEEK OR TWO (THAT'S LESS THAN A 500 MILES TO BURN A QUART OR 2 ENGINE OIL!) TO BRING IT BACK WITHIN THE ACCEPTABLE LEVEL. THERE IS NO VISIBLE LEAKS, NO BLUE SMOKE INDICATION. IT IS DANGEROUS IF ENGINE SUDDENLY FAIL WHEN DRIVING. THIS SEEMS A COMMON MANUFACTURING DEFECT FROM TOYOTA (T-SB-0094-11: 2AZ-FE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION). *TR
THE DASHBOARD ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON, SPEEDOMETER DROPPED TO ZERO, AND THE TACHOMETER JUMPED WHILE ON THE FREEWAY. THE FIRST REACTION WHEN SEEING THE BRAKE LIGHT ON WAS TO REACH FOR THE EMERGENCY BRAKE RELEASE AND ON THE VEHICLE THE RELEASE IS THE STEP TYPE. THIS RELEASE IS THE HOOD RELEASE AND LUCKILY THE SAFETY ON THE HOOD DID NOT ALLOW THE HOOD TO OPEN. I'VE REPORTED THIS TO TOYOTA WHEN I GOT A RECALL FOR REPLACEMENT OF THE DASH IF IT CRACKED. THEY TOLD ME THEY HADN'T HEARD THIS, AND I TOLD THEM TO GO TO THE INTERNET AS IT WAS THERE AND THERE WERE YOUTUBE VIDEOS SHOWING THIS CONDITION. *TR

THE CAR IS CONSUMING EXCESSIVE OIL. HAVE TO ADD 2-3 QUARTS OF OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES ABOUT 5000 MILES. PROBLEM STARTED AROUND 35000 MILES. IT NOW HAS 65400 MILES. THE CONSUMPTION HAS PROGRESSIVELY INCREASED. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO ADJUSTED THE SEATBELT AS AN INTERIM FIX AND RECOMMENDED THAT THE SEATBELT BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TO BE FURTHER INSPECTED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,473.
I HAVE 2 COMPLAINTS. 1) I WAS DRIVING IN LOCAL TRAFFIC WHEN 5 WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED: MASTER WARNING LIGHT, BRAKE WARNING LIGHT, ELECTRONICALLY CONTROLLED BRAKE WARNING, ABS, SLIP INDICATOR. I WAS SURPRISED BUT MY BRAKES CONTINUED TO WORK ON THE DRIVE HOME & TO THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT DAY. THE LIGHTS NEVER WENT OFF (SOME OTHER OWNERS HAVE REPORTED THE LIGHTS GO ON & OFF). I DO NOT HAVE COLD WEATHER CONDITIONS (50S IN DEC). THE DEALERSHIP INVESTIGATED & FOUND IT WAS CONSISTENT WITH THE PROBLEM COVERED BY THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT PROGRAM (POL14-04 OR NHTSA 14001) FOR THE BRAKE ACTUATOR ASSEMBLY & SKID CONTROL ECU/BRAKE PEDAL STROKE SENSOR, & ALSO AN OPEN RECALL ON MY CAR FOR A SEPARATE ITEM WITH MY BRAKES. MY CAR SYMPTOMS WERE: WHEN STOPPED AT A LIGHT, THE CAR WOULD ROLL FORWARD BY INCHES UNLESS I HAD MY FOOT FIRMLY DEPRESSED (KNEE LOCKED); NOISES WHICH SOUNDED LIKE AIR MOVING THROUGH TUBING WHILE BRAKING; NOISES THAT SOUNDED LIKE A "PUMP" ACTIVATING AFTER MY CAR HAD BEEN TURNED OFF (UP TO 15 MINUTES). 2) TOYOTA HAS AN OPEN EXTENDED WARRANTY (CSC 10046281-9238) ON THE SUN VISOR ASSEMBLY & SUN VISOR BRACKET INCLUDING THE 2009 CAMRY HYBRID. MY CAR HAS HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM FOR ~4 YEARS: THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR WILL NOT FULLY GO UP & REMAIN THERE. MOST OF THE TIME IT RESTS HALFWAY DOWN BUT FROM TIME TO TIME IT WILL COME DOWN WITH NO WARNING. THIS BLOCKS THE DRIVER'S FIELD OF VISION. WHAT IS FRUSTRATING IS THAT I SPOKE TO BOTH THE DEALERSHIP & THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER WHO BOTH AGREE MY PROBLEM SOUNDS EXACTLY LIKE THE PROBLEM DESCRIBED IN THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY. HOWEVER, THE PART NUMBER FOR MY CAR (74320-33C11-B0) IS NOT LISTED AMONG THE ACCEPTED PARTS NUMBER, AND MY VIN DOESN'T MATCH THE LISTED VINS. I HOPE CORPORATE TOYOTA WILL LOOK INTO THIS AND EXTEND ME THE COURTESY OF REPAIRING MY SUN VISOR! (DEALER COST ~$250). *TR

CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE AIRBAG ISSUES. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WITHIN DAYS AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS AT THE DEALER FOR ITS ANNUAL XYLON TREATMENT, HE NOTICED THE PASSENGER AIR BAG READ AIR BAG OFF. DESPITE AN ADULT SITTING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. IT WAS NOT AN ISSUE PRIOR TO THE XYLON TREATMENT FOR THE SEATS. THE DEALER STATED IT WAS LIKELY A SHORT WITHIN THE SEAT MECHANISM. THEY PROPOSED A REPAIR OF THE SEAT TRACK SENSORS AND REPLACEMENT OF THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE AT A COST OF $ 1200 AND THERE WAS NO GUARANTEE GIVEN THAT IT WOULD SOLVE THE PROBLEM AND THE AIR BAG WOULD BE FUNCTIONAL. *JB

THE FAILURE RECURRED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. WHILE DRIVING OR WHEN PARKED, ALL DASHBOARD GAUGES (ENGINE TEMP, SPEEDOMETER, ETC.) DROP TO 0. AT THE SAME TIME, THE "BRAKE" AND THE "ABS" LIGHTS ILLUMINATE. THE INDICATOR FOR PARK/DRIVE/REVERSE IS NO LONGER ILLUMINATED, AND THE OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE INDICATOR FLASHES BETWEEN "E" AND THE CORRECT TEMPERATURE. IN ADDITION, THE A/C FAILS TO COOL, DESPITE ALL LIGHTS/INDICATORS ON THE CONSOLE APPEARING NORMAL (NO FLASHING LIGHTS TO INDICATE A MALFUNCTION.) ALL ABOVE ISSUES WILL RANDOMLY OCCUR - NO OBVIOUS CORRELATION TO BRAKING, ACCELERATION, ETC. AT TIMES, SOME OF THE GAUGES WILL NORMALIZE, WHILE OTHERS REMAIN AT "0." IN ADDITION, SOME GAUGES WILL FLUCTUATE SPORADICALLY, OR "BOUNCE" UP/DOWN - NOT INDICATING TRUE ENGINE TEMP OR SPEED. THE PROBLEMS WILL ALL RESOLVE AT TIMES, SEEMINGLY RANDOMLY, AND THEN REOCCUR - JUST AS RANDOMLY. I HAVE FOUND NUMEROUS VIDEOS ON YOUTUBE WHICH DOCUMENT THIS ISSUE, AND I HAVE NOTED NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THIS WEBSITE DESCRIBING THE SAME PROBLEM. AFTER SEVERAL WEEKS (ON 11/14/14), I TOOK MY CAR TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, DESCRIBING THE ISSUES AND SUGGESTING THE BRAKE ACTUATOR HAD FAILED (AS I HAD READ FROM OTHER OWNER COMPLAINTS.) THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THEY HAD SEEN SEVERAL OTHER VEHICLES WITH SIMILAR ISSUES, BUT WAS CONFUSED ABOUT THE INVOLVEMENT OF THE A/C ISSUE. (PLEASE NOTE: I LIVE IN A CITY WITH A POPULATION OF LESS THAN 250,000.) AFTER SEVERAL DAYS OF DIAGNOSTICS, THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP CONTACTED A TOYOTA SPECIALIST IN HOUSTON, TX, WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE BRAKE ACTUATOR HAD FAILED. I PAID $1932.23 FOR PARTS AND LABOR (THAT'S INCLUDING A 10% DISCOUNT) TO HAVE THE ISSUE REPAIRED. MY VEHICLE WAS WITH THE DEALERSHIP FOR 11 DAYS BEFORE IT WAS FINALLY REPAIRED. I AM CONCERNED THAT SO MANY PEOPLE SEEM TO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM, AND THAT A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED FOR A CONDITION AFFECTING MULTIPLE SAFETY FEATURES OF THE VEHICLE. *TR
THE DASHBOARD OF MY 2009 CAMRY IS MELTING. IT CREATES A DANGEROUS, BLINDING GLARE. I AM CONCERNED THAT IS WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. ABS ACTUATOR IS FAILING. HAPPENED RIGHT BEFORE IT HIT 75K MILES. *TR
EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION RECALL: OVER THE LAST YEAR I NOTICED MY OIL CONSUMPTION WAS DRASTICALLY INCREASING. I STARTED BURNING THROUGH OIL AND HAVING TO ADD A QUART EVERY 2 MONTHS AND NOW MONTHLY. IN THE PAST FEW MONTHS, A VERY LARGE PLUME OF WHITE SMOKE WOULD SPEW OUT OF MY TAIL PIPES; NOT JUST A LITTLE BUT A LARGE CLOUD OF SMOKE. IT HAS A VERY BURNT SMELL TO IT TOO. THE SMOKE DISSIPATES AFTER THE CAR WARMS AND AS LONG AS THE CAR IS WARM, IT WILL NOT SMOKE. IT ONLY SMOKE WHEN THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN OFF FOR OVER 2-3 HOURS. I WAS TOLD BY A CERTIFIED TOYOTA MECHANIC THAT I NEED TO REPLACE THE ENGINE DUE TO FAULTY INTERNAL PARTS. HE STATED IT WAS THE REASON FOR SUCH A HIGH LEVEL OF OIL CONSUMPTION. I DISCOVERED THAT TOYOTA IS CURRENTLY RECALLING CERTAIN ENGINE BLOCKS DUE TO OIL CONSUMPTION DEFECTS, HOWEVER MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT PART OF THAT RECALL AS OF NOW. ACCORDING TO TOYOTA, MY VIN COULD EVENTUALLY BECOME PART OF THE RECALL (OIL CONSUMPTION RECALL) BUT AS OF NOW, IT IS NOT. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW A MAJOR MANUFACTURER WILL NOT STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT AND REPAIR MY ENGINE CONSIDERING THEY ARE ALREADY RECALLING OTHER ENGINES WITH THE EXACT SAME ISSUES I AM HAVING WITH MY CAMRY. THIS WAS MY FIRST CAMRY TOO. VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH TOYOTA.
