THIS INCIDENT HAPPENED OVER TIME AND WAS NOTICED APPROXIMATELY 4 YEARS BACK. I JUST DIDN'T KNOW I COULD DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT UNTIL TODAY WHEN I GOOGLED "HOW TO TREAT TOYOTA SHINY STICKY/MELTED DASH BOARD". I'VE CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE SENT OUT A LETTER STATING THAT THERE WAS A WARRANTY EXTENSION TO ANYONE EXPERIENCING THIS ISSUE. THE PROBLEM WAS THAT AS AN OWNER I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY NOTIFICATION OF THIS WARRANTY. I'VE HAD VERY VISUAL DISTRACTION WHEN DRIVING IN THE DIRECTION OF THE SUN. THE DASHBOARD IS CONSTANTLY BEING DAMAGED WHEN WIPED WITH A CLEAN/WET CLOTH. TOYOTA NOW STATES I AM OUT OF LUCK BECAUSE I MISSED THE WARRANTY BY 13 BUSINESS DAYS. THIS IS A HORRENDOUS BUSINESS PRACTICE TO NOT REPLACE A KNOWN ISSUE. IT HAS BECOME A HAZARD ON THE ROAD AND SHOULD NOT BE TAKEN LIGHTLY.
ENGINE PISTON OIL CONTROL RINGS IMPROPERLY RETRIEVING OIL IN USE. THE PISTONS AREN'T PROPERLY TREATING THE OIL SO I HAVE TO REFILL NEW OIL MULTIPLE TIMES A MONTH. IT FALLS UNDER THE MODEL AND YEAR THAT TOYOTA WAS DOING RECALLS FOR THE MODEL IN QUESTION. I WONDER IF THIS ISSUE CAN STILL BE FIXED! THE PISTONS NEED TO BE REPLACED! THE ENGINE WORKS REALLY WELL OTHER THAN BURNING OIL LIKE A FRYING PAN. (OIL & ENGINE TEMPERATURES REMAIN NORMAL (TESTED) BUT THE OIL CONTINUES TO DISAPPEAR. NO LEAKS.
EXCESSIVE ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION (EXTREMELY BAD).
THIS CAR HIT US ON THE DRIVER SIDE RUNNING US OFF THE ROAD INTO A LIGHT POLE. THE POLE DID GIVE SAY BUT TOTALED THE VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AT ALL. I AM STILL SUFFERING FROM BACK AND NECK PAIN. THE VISOR OR SOMETHING SCRAPED THE TOP OF FOREHEAD/HEAD. *TR
DASHBOARD IS STICKY AND TERRIBLE GLARE WHILE DRIVING. REPORTED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN JULY . *TR
THE DASHBOARD IS MELTING AND STICKY. WHEN HOT GETS WORSE AND REFLECTS LIGHT INTO YOUR EYES MAKING IT HARD TO DRIVE. *TR
2007 - 2009 TOYOTA CAMRYS HAVE BEEN NOTED TO HAVE EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION ISSUES. MY CAMRY IS BURNING APPROXIMATELY 2 QTS EVERY 3,000 MILES. PER TOYOTA'S REQUEST, MY CAR HAS BEEN ROUTINELY SERVICED BY TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS; HOWEVER, NO ONE HAS EVER BROUGHT THE KNOWN ISSUE WITH MY MODEL YEAR TO MY ATTENTION. THE MOST I'VE EVER HEARD, "YOUR CAR WAS A LITTLE LOW ON OIL." WITH A PUBLISHED SERVICE BULLETIN, TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE NOTIFIED ALL EFFECTED OWNERS WITH THIS INFORMATION. AS THE SOLE OWNER, AND WITH 99,000 MILES, MY CAMRY IS BEYOND THEIR WARRANTY, AND WILL REQUIRE AN ENGINE REBUILD TO MITIGATE THE ISSUE. THIS IS A POOR DESIGN BY TOYOTA AND IS UNACCEPTABLE. *TR
PAINT IS FADING IN AREAS, SOME AREAS LOOKS LIKE THERE IS NO PAINT COLOR LEFT AT ALL. HEADLAMPS HAVE HAD TO BE RESTORED TWICE IN LESS THAN 4 YEARS. DASHBOARD IS STICKY, SMALL PIECES/CHUNKS ARE COMING OFF, AT TIMES THE SUN SHADE STICKS TO THE DASHBOARD. *TR
VSC SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT COMES ON, AND THE BRAKES BECOME VERY "SOFT", NEARLY FAILING. THIS ONLY HAPPENS WHEN TEMPERATURES REACH 50 DEGREES OR BELOW, AND IS QUITE COMMON WHEN IT'S AROUND FREEZING OR BELOW. *TR
MY TOYOTA CAMRY CONSUMES AN EXORBITANT AMOUNT OF OIL. I BOUGHT THIS CAR IN SUMMER 2013 WITH APPROX 35,000 MILES, AND WITHIN TWO-THREE MONTH AFTER MY FIRST OIL CHANGE, THE LOW OIL WARNING LAMP WOULD TURN ON AT HARD BRAKING. IT TURNED OUT THAT THE OIL LEVEL WAS CRITICALLY LOW EVEN THOUGH IT HAD BEEN VERY RECENTLY CHANGED. I WAS LUCKY TO DISCOVER IT WHEN I WAS CLOSE TO HOME SO I WAS ABLE TO ADD OIL. THE INSPECTION OF THE CAR DID NOT REVEAL ANY OIL LEAKS. I NOW HAVE TO ADD OIL EVERY SEVERAL WEEKS EVEN THOUGH THE CAR HAS BARELY TOUCHED 50,000 MILES. THE CAR IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY. HAD I EMBARKED ON A LONG TRIP RIGHT BEFORE THE OIL LEVEL FELL LOW ENOUGH TO TRIGGER THE LOW OIL WARNING LIGHT, I COULD HAVE EXPERIENCED A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE ENGINE AS OPEN HIGHWAY DRIVING DOES NOT USUALLY REQUIRE HARD BRAKING. AS A RESULT I WOULD HAVE NOT FOUND OUT THAT THE ENGINE WAS OUT OF OIL AND COULD HAVE SUDDENLY STALLED CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. I AM THE SECOND OWNER OF THIS CAR. BEFORE IT WAS SERVICED AS A TOYOTA DEALER AND THE MAINTENANCE PAPERWORK THAT CAME WITH THE CAR DID NOT POINT TO ANY ISSUES WITH THE HIGHER THAN NORMAL OIL CONSUMPTION. PLEASE DO NOT WAIT UNTIL PEOPLE GET HURT IN ACCIDENTS CAUSED BY FAILED ENGINES AND MAKE TOYOTA TO FIX THIS PROBLEM AS THE OIL CONSUMPTION IS GETTING PROGRESSIVELY WORSE WITH TIME AND MILES DRIVEN. INSTEAD OF SUDDEN ACCELERATION PEOPLE MAY START GETTING KILLED FROM SUDDEN STOPS CAUSED BY FAILED ENGINES!!! *TR
MY DASHBOARD HAS BECOME SOFT AND HAD DEFECTS. I HAVE BEEN ADVISED THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE 2009 CAMRY. *TR
I RECEIVED 1ST NOTICE FROM TOYOTA MOTOR REGARDING FACTORY WARANTY EXTENSION BECAUSE OF STICKY DASHBOARD ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO. I RECEIVED 2ND NOTICE LAST SPRING AND BROUGHT MY CAR TO TOYOTO SERVICE AND VERIFIED THAT MY CAR DASHBOARD NEED TO BE REPKACED. THE PUT THE LINE FOR REPLACEMENT AND THEY WERE GOING TO NOTIFY ME. IT WAS APRIL 2016. WHEN I CALLED SEVICE AFTER SEVERAL MONTHS THEY SAID IT BACK ORDER AND WAITING FOR THE PARTS. THEN I DECIDED TO CALL TOYOTO MOTOR CUSTEMER SERVICE AND THEY SAID MY ORDER WAS IN THE LINE AND WITHIN 6 MONTHS IT WILL BE IN SERVICE. I SAID OK. TWO DATS AGO I CALLED TOUOTO MOTOR AND ASK WHEN MY DASHBOARD WILL BE DELIVERED. THEY SAID THEY DON'T KNOW IT IS BACK ORDER. THEY SAID I AM GOING TO BE NOTIFIED. I WANTED TO TALK THEIR MANEGER . THEY SAID THEIR MABAGER WILL CALL ME. TODAY I HAVE RECEIVED CALL. SHE REPEATED SAME THINGS. IT IS BACKORDER THEY DON'T KNOW WHEN MY DASHBOARD WILL BE REPLACED. I AM VERY FRUSTRATED NOW. I DON'T THING THAT THEY HAVE PLAN TO SATISFY THEIR CUSTOMER. THEY JUST ACT LIKE THEY TAKING CARE THE ISSUE BECAUSE IF COURT ORDER. I SEARCGED MANY TOYOTO OWNER ARE WAITING FOR TOYOTO SERVICES CALL THEM FIR DASHBOARD REPLACEMENT BUT I BELIVE THAT THEY DON'T HAVE ANY SERIOUS ACTION. GOVERMENT OFFICES MYST START INVESTIGATION AND CLARIFY WHAT ACTION AND HOW MANY CARS DASHBOARD PROBLEM HAVE BEEN SOLVED AFTER THE COURT ORDER. IT WAS SAFETY PROBLEM AND MY GOVERNMENT SHOULD PUSH TOYOTO TO SOLVE THIS ISSUE. I WILL TRY TO FIND THE COURT, THE FEDERAL JUDGE AND INFORM THAT TOYOTO LYING MANY TOYOTO OWNER AND THEY DON'T TAKE SERIOUS ACTION TO SOLVE IT. THEIR ONLY ANSWER THE IT IS BACKORDER PART. YOU HAVE TO ORDER THAT HOW MANY CARS' DASHBOARD HAVE VEEN REPLACED OVER KAST 2 YEARS. THE NUMBER WILL GIVE IDEA HOW MUCH THEY CONSIDER THIS ISSUE SERIOUSLY. IT IS BIG SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE OF SHINY DASHBOARD.
THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR WOULD NO LONGER STAY UP. WHATEVER IS HOLDING IT UP IS BROKEN. I'VE GONE ON THE INTERNET AND READ MANY SIMILAR ACCOUNTS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE UNEXPECTEDLY INCREASED ACCELERATION WITHOUT WARNING. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED WITH FORCE AND THE VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. THERE WAS A VOLUNTARY RECALL ISSUED BY THE MANUFACTURER RELATED TO THE FAULTY ACCELERATION; HOWEVER, THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WAS OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 49,000.
ON TWO OCCASIONS WITH THE SAME SCENARIO WITHIN A YEAR...THE CAR WOULD BEGIN TO SHAKE AND PULSATE WHEN PUTTING ON THE BRAKES. THEN WOULD ADD WITHIN A FEW DAYS WOULD ABRUPTLY LUNGE FORWARD AT AN INCREASED SPEED WHEN BRAKING, POSING A SAFETY HAZARD. BY THEN WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES IT WOULD BEGIN TO GRIND AND SCRAP THE ROTORS. THE AUTO REPAIRMAN EXAMINED THE VEHICLE, AND SAID THERE WAS NOT A PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES BUT WITH THE ROTORS NEEDED REPLACED. HE FOUND THAT THE BRAKES WOULD GET STUCK WHICH WOULD SCRAP THE ROTORS DUE TO BAD CALIPERS. I HAVE WITHIN A YEAR REPLACED 2 SETS OF BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS. *TR
DASH BOARD HAS MELTED. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL. I WENT TO TOYOTA OF STUART FL AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD PAY FOR THE PART BUT I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE LABOR. THE LABOR IS $400.00 WHO CAN AFFORD THAT. I THINK THEY NEED TO REPLACE IT FOR FREE. WHEN IM DRIVING MY FINGER NAILS END UP GETTING STUCK IN THE DASH. YOU CANT OPEN OR STRETCH YOU FINGERS WHEN THEY ARE ON THE WHEEL. THEN YOU ARE TRYING TO GET THE STICKY DASH BOARD OFF YOUR FINGERS AND OUT FROM UNDER YOUR NAILS. IT DISTRACTS YOU WHEN YOU SHOULD HAVE YOUR EYES ON THE ROAD. *JS
DASHBOARD IS GETTING STICKY AND APPEARS TO BE MELTING. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS COULD BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE CAUSING GLARE ON THE WINDSHIELD. *TR
I TOOK MY CAMRY TO AUTOLAND DEALER SHIP FOR REGULAR 65,000 MILE SERVICE, I WAS TOLD THERE IS A WATER PUMP FAILURE. I WOULD LIKE TO INVESTIGATE AND SEE IF THERE ARE PROBLEMS KNOWN FOR HYBRID CAMRY FOR PUMP FAILURE. I AM ALSO AN OWNER OF TOYOTA PRIYS ON WHICH TOYOTA HAD A VOLUNTARY RE-CALL ON HYBRID WATER PUMP, AND MECHANICAL SHOULD ALSO BE CHECKED. I DID SPEAK WITH TOYOTA CORPORATE AND ASKED THEM I SHOULD NOT BE PAYING $650.00 FOR THIS PUMP FAILUER. PLEASE ADVISE ME OF MY RIGHTS AND COURSE OF ACTION WITH TOYOTA FOR INVESTIGATION. RECENTLY WE HAD OUR TIRES ROTATED AND THE MECHANIC MENTIONED THE FRONT STRUTS WERE LEAKING. HE SUGGESTED WE TAKE IT TO TOYOTA FOR REPAIR. WE WEREN?T TOO CONCERNED, THE CAR HAD 34,365 MILES ON IT, WELL UNDER THE 36,000-WARRANTY LIMIT. UNTIL RECENTLY, ALL WE?D HEARD WAS CAMRY SELDOM HAD A PROBLEM, AND, UNLIKE SOME MANUFACTURERS, TOYOTA PAID ATTENTION TO QUALITY. WE THOUGHT WE WERE JUST UNLUCKY. WE DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE ISSUE AND IMAGINE OUR SURPRISE WHEN WE FOUND THIS WAS NOT JUST AN OCCASIONAL PROBLEM - TOYOTA HAS HAD ISSUES WITH STRUTS LEAKING FOR YEARS. IT?S SO WELL KNOWN THEY WROTE A SERVICE BULLETIN TELLING THEIR DEALERS HOW MUCH LEAKAGE THEY SHOULD OVERLOOK. HOW MUCH LEAKING IS ACCEPTABLE? HOW ABOUT ZERO, ESPECIALLY WHEN A CAR HAS SO FEW MILES, MOST OF WHICH WERE DRIVEN ON HIGHWAYS. AS IT TURNS OUT, OUR CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY BECAUSE WE?VE OWNED IT OVER 36 MONTHS. THAT MEANS WE GET TO FOOT THE ENTIRE $768 BILL FOR THE REPAIR (DEALER PRICE), A REPAIR THAT WOULD NOT BE NEEDED IF TOYOTA HAD ADDRESSED THEIR STRUT PROBLEM WHEN THEY FOUND OUT ABOUT IT. SO MUCH FOR TOYOTA QUALITY.
THE CAR WAS PURCHASED NEW IN 2008. I LIVED IN GA FROM 2008-2012 AND MOVED TO TX IN 2012. I DID NOT EXPERIENCE DASH ISSUES WHILE LIVING IN GA. I FIRST NOTICED MY DASHBOARD WAS "STICKY" WHEN TRYING TO REMOVE A PARKING VOUCHER FROM THE DASH AREA. THE VOUCHER WAS STUCK TO THE DASH AND OTHER AREAS OF THE DASH WERE STICKY TO THE TOUCH. I TRIED REMOVING PIECES OF THE VOUCHER AND NOTICED THE "STICKINESS" OF THE DASHBOARD WAS COMING OFF ONTO MY HANDS. THE STICKINESS HAS WORSENED TO THE POINT THAT WHENEVER THE DASH IS TOUCHED THE STICKY RESIDUE IS TRANSFERRED ONTO HANDS AND FINGERPRINTS ARE LEFT BEHIND. THE DASHBOARD SEEMS TO BE MELTING AND TOUCHING THE SURFACE CREATES "GOUGES" IN THE DASH. THE AREA WHERE THE VOUCHER WAS PLACED AND REMOVED IS WORN AND HAS LOST ITS TEXTURE. THE INCREASED STICKINESS MAKES THE DASH SHINY AND A GLARE IS PRESENT WHEN DRIVING. THE STICKY/MELTING DASH IS A RESULT OF DASH MATERIAL DEFECTS WHICH SHOULD BE REPLACED BY TOYOTA FREE OF CHARGE. *TR
NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS OF TOYOTA ALLOWING SUBSTANDARD LEAKY STRUTS THAT PREMATURELY WEAR OUT UNDER 40K MILES. CAUSES ISSUES WITH RIDE HEIGHT, STABILITY AND CONTROL. *TR
THIS IS COMPLAINT ABOUT THE DASHBOARD COVERING ON MY 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. IF I NEED TO FILE THIS COMPLAINT ON A DIFFERENT WEBSITE, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. FROM WHAT I CAN TELL ALMOST EVERYONE WHO HAS A LATE MODEL LEXUS OR CAMRY IS HAVING THIS PROBLEM. THE DASH COVERING BEGINS TO MELT AND BECOMES VERY STICKY. THE COVERING STARTS TO COME OFF IF YOU TRY TO CLEAN IT AND THEN A VERY SHINY SURFACE APPEARS AND REFLECTS OFF OF THE WINDSHIELD MAKING IT VERY HARD TO SEE UNLESS YOU PUT SOMETHING OVER THE DASH TO STOP THE REFLECTION. THIS SEEMS TO BE AFFECTING EVERY CAMRY FOR SEVERAL MODEL YEARS AND VERY OBVIOUSLY IS A DEFECT. I HAVE HEARD TOYOTA WILL GIVE UP TO A 50% DISCOUNT SO THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THE PROBLEM, BUT UNTIL THERE IS A RECALL IT COSTS THE CONSUMER 300 DOLLARS. THIS SEEMS UNFAIR TO ME. *TR
MY DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISOR GRADUALLY FALLS DOWN AS I AM DRIVING, BLOCKING MY REAR VIEW MIRROR. THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE SUN VISOR AND I KNOW THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR IT, BUT WHEN I CALLED MY TOYOTA DEALER THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WASN'T FOR MY VIN #. *TR
ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON. SPEEDOMETER STOPS WORKING AND TACHOMETER IS ERRATIC. TEMPERATURE GAUGE WILL DROP TO COLD AND A/C UNIT SHUTS OFF. THIS HAPPENS RANDOMLY THROUGHOUT TRIPS OF VARIOUS DISTANCE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2009 TOYOTA CAMARY. THE CONTACT STATED THE DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S FRONT STRUTS WERE LEAKING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE WAS DIAGNOSIS WAS TO REPLACE THE FOUR TIRES WITH AN ALIGNMENT. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED AND AN ALIGNMENT WAS PERFORMED. HOWEVER, THE STRUTS CONTINUED TO LEAK.THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN BACK TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE AND FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE STRUTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACE WITH AN ALIGNMENT. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 46107.
2009 TOYOTA CAMRY DRIVER SIDE VISOR BROKEN INTERNALLY AND HANGS DOWN IN FRONT OF DRIVER UNTIL PULLED OFF, A POSSIBLE VISIBILITY PROBLEM AND HAZARD. TOYOTA ISSUED A VISOR RECALL, BUT REPLACEMENT VISOR (TRIED 2) WILL NOT STAY FULLY UP WHEN TILTED TO THE WINDSHIELD, THEREBY MAKING SIGNAL LIGHTS HARDER TO SEE, WHICH WE BELIEVE COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AS WELL. HARD TO BELIEVE NEW VISOR WILL NOT GO UP FULLY (IN BOTH DIRECTIONS, BUT TOWARDS THE CEILING DOES NOT BLOCK VIEW, JUST DOES NOT SNAP UP LIKE ORIGINAL UNITS). *TR
THE PASSENGER "AIR BAG-OFF" WARNING LIGHT REMAINS ON WITH ADULT PASSENGER IS IN FRONT SEAT WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. TOYOTA STATES THEY WILL NOT CORRECT DEFECT OR CALIBRATE SYSTEM BECAUSE VIN NUMBER IS NOT WITHIN MARCH 2013 RECALL FOR THIS DYSFUNCTION EVEN THOUGH LIKE MODELS AND YEAR HAVE BEEN ISSUED RECALL FOR SAME CONDITION. *TR
DASHBOARD IS MELTING AND STICKY TO TOUCH. WHEN DRIVING IN THE SUN, THE WINDSHIELD IS HARD TO SEE FROM THE GLARING OF THE MELTING DASH BOARD AND LIMITED VISIBILITY OF THE ROAD. *TR
STICKY DASHBOARD PROVIDES GLARE. THIS CAUSES DISTRACTION AND GLARE. BECAUSE OF STICKINESS, I CAN'T MOUNT MY GPS AND THAT FORCES ME TO KEEP LOOKING DOWN AND NOT PAY ATTENTION TO ROAD. I HAD MANY CLOSE CALLS AND TOYOTA WOULD NOT FIX THIS ISSUE. I NEVER HAVE THIS PROBLEM IN MY 2004 CAMRY. IT SEEMS THIS IS A MANUFACTURING ISSUE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THAT THE VEHICLE BURNED A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF OIL. THE VEHICLE WAS BURNING TWO QUARTS OF OIL BETWEEN OIL CHANGES OR EVERY THREE THOUSAND MILES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSIS BUT NO CAUSE FOR THE FAILURE WAS FOUND. AS ALWAYS WHEN I ARRIVE TO WORK I PUT UP THE SUNSCREEN IN THE FRONT WINDOW. IT IS HELD IN PLACE BY THE DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S SUN VISORS. WHEN I PROCEEDED TO REMOVE THE SCREEN AFTER WORK, THE VISOR WOULD NOT RETURN TO ITS NORMAL "LOCKED" POSITION. REGARDLESS OF THE ANGLE OF THE VISOR, IT WOULD NOT STAY IN PLACE. I HAD TO DRIVE HOME HOLDING THE VISOR UP WITH ONE HAND, BECAUSE IT WOULD OBSTRUCT MY LINE OF VISION IF LEFT TO HANG. WHEN I ARRIVED HOME, I WAS ABLE TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO TAKE IT OFF THE ARM SWING. THE VINYL DASHBOARD SURFACE IS STICKY AND, IN AREAS CLOSE TO THE WINDSHIELD, THE SURFACE HAS MELTED TO A SHINY, GLARY LOOK. I CANNOT WIPE IT WITH A CLOTH BECAUSE IT STICKS TO THE SURFACE. PRESSING LIGHTLY THE SURFACE WITH MY FINGERNAIL LEAVES A DEEP PERMANENT MARK AS THE SURFACE HAS NO ELASTICITY. EVEN LIGHT IMPACT, SUCH AS FROM NORMAL USE OF A SUN REFLECTIVE WINDSHIELD SHADE, LEAVES MARKS ON THE SURFACE. THE EDGES OF THE DASHBOARD ARE CHIPPING EASILY. *TR
THE DASH IS VERY SOFT AND CRACKING. IT IS VERY SHINING AND GIVES OFF A GLARE WHICH MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO SEE. NO COMMERCIAL PRODUCTS HAVE BEEN USED ON IT. THE DEALER IN BRADENTON FL SAYS THEY DON'T KNOW WHAT IS WRONG WITH IT AND I COULD REPLACE IT FOR ABOUT 2200.00 DOLLARS AS IT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. WHILE SEARCHING THE WEB FOR A SOLUTION I CAME ACROSS MANY OTHERS WHO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. MY HUSBANDS 2006 TACOMA DOES NOT HAVE THIS ISSUE, IN ADDITION, THE NEWER MODELS ALL REDESIGNED DASHES. ADDITIONALLY, THE SKID CONTROL AND BRAKE SENSOR WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT HAD TO BRAKE WITH FORCE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE STROKE SENSOR DETECTOR SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE RESET. THE REMEDY WAS IMPLEMENTED SEVERAL TIMES HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,757 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 51,000.
MOVED TO TX IN 2012 AND HAVE NOT HAD ANY PREVIOUS STARTING ISSUES BEFORE MOVING. ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE DURING MY LUNCH BREAK, ENGINE TURNED OVER BUT WAS UNABLE TO START. ATTEMPTED TO START THE CAR AGAIN AND THE ENGINE CRANKED AND STARTED WITH A HARD "JOLT" AS IF THE GEAR SHIFT WAS OUT OF POSITION. SEVERAL DAYS LATER THE TEMPERATURE WAS WARMER AND THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED. SCHEDULED A APPOINTMENT WITH MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD ALL SYSTEMS WERE NORMAL AND THEY COULD NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM SINCE THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE STARTING ISSUE. THE STARTING ISSUE OCCURS ON RELATIVELY HOT DAYS, TURNING THE KEY TO "ON" BEFORE STARTING DOES NOT HELP THE PROBLEM, THE SECOND START ATTEMPT IS USUALLY A "HARD" START SUCH THAT IT FEELS AS IF THE ENGINE IS JERKING. TOYOTA SHOULD INVESTIGATE ELECTRICAL/FUEL/AND AIR COMPONENTS TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THIS STARTING PROBLEM, ESPECIALLY SINCE THE ISSUES SEEMS TO BE TEMPERATURE RELATED. *TR

ABOUT A WEEK AGO I NOTICED AND EXTREMELY LOUD RATTLING NOSE COMING FRONT THE FRONT SUSPENSION OF MY 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. I EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM TO MY HUSBAND WHO HAS EXPERIENCE IN CAR REPAIRS. UPON INSPECTING MY CAR HE DISCOVERED THAT THE FRONT STRUT COIL SPRING HAD BROKEN. ONE COMPLETE BOTTOM COIL OF THE SPRING HAD SHEARED OFF AND WAS LYING INSIDE THE STRUT COIL SPRING CREATING THE LOUD RATTLE SOUND. BY LOOKING AT THE CROSS SECTION OF THE COIL BREAKAGE POINT IT WAS VERY OBVIOUS THERE WAS A CRACK IN THE COIL METAL AND FROM THAT POINT THE BREAKAGE ORIGINATED. BEFORE THIS BREAKAGE HAPPEN I WAS SCHEDULED FOR A RECALL BULLETIN THAT I RECEIVED FROM TOYOTA FOR THE POWER WINDOW SWITCH. UPON ARRIVING AT THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE DEPT THE NEXT DAY WE EXPLAINED THE PROBLEM TO THEM. THEY EXPLAINED THAT SINCE THE CAR HAD REACHED 50,000 MILE THERE WAS NOTHING THAT THEY COULD DO EXCEPT CHARGE ME $660 TO REPLACE BOTH FRONT STRUT SPRINGS. I DECLINED THEIR OFFER BECAUSE THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS IN STOCK AND I FELT THIS WAS A DEFECT IN THE SPRING IN THE FIRST PLACE, WHY SHOULD I HAVE TO BEAR THE COST OF THIS DEFECT? LATER THAT DAY I CONTACTED MY LOCAL MECHANIC ABOUT THE PROBLEM. AFTER HIS INSPECTION OF THE PROBLEM HE RECOMMENDED REPLACING BOTH FRONT STRUT ASSEMBLIES NOT JUST THE SPRINGS BECAUSE OF THE EXCESSIVE AMOUNT THE STRUTS WERE LEAKING. THE GOOD NEWS IS I NOW HAVE NEW FRONT STRUTS AT A COST OF LESS THAT HALF OF WHAT TOYOTA WANTED JUST TO REPLACE THE SPRINGS AND A HUGE IMPROVEMENT IN RIDE QUALITY THAT MY VEHICLE NOW EXHIBITS. I HAVE OWNED 6 TOYOTA'S IN THE PREVIOUS YEARS AND RAN THEM ALL TO 200,000 PLUS MILES AND NEVER HAD TO REPLACE A STRUT. I THINK WE HAVE AN OBVIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE NEWER GENERATION TOYOTA CAMRY THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED. *TR
