2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE ROOF. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED SHE HEARD A NOISE AS SHE WAS DRIVING. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER, THE ROOF HAD DISCONNECTED FROM THE FRAME OF THE VEHICLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED FOR AN UNRELATED ISSUE, THE MECHANIC ADVISED HIM THAT THERE WAS A LEAK NEAR THE PASSENGER'S SIDE FRONT STRUT. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER'S SIDE STRUT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE LEAK WAS A NORMAL CHARACTERISTIC OF THE VEHICLE AND THAT THERE WERE NO FAILURES. UPON PURCHASING THIS CAR IN/2013 WE IMMEDIATELY HAD TROUBLE WITH THE 12 V CIGARETTE LIGHTERS. PLUGGING IN THE STANDARD ITEMS LIKE A CELL PHONE OR GPS WILL ONLY GET US ABOUT 20 MINUTES AT BRST , BEFORE BLOWING THE FUSES. IT DOESN'T MATTER WHICH POWER POINT WE USE, IT HAPPENS IN EACH IF THEM. THE PLACE WE BOUGHT THE CAR EXAMINED THE SITUATION THREE TIMES AND COULDN'T DECIPHER THE PROBLEM. A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WOULD CHARGE OVER $100 JUST FOR A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK. DUE TO THIS PROBLEM WE DON'T FEEL SAFE TRAVELING FAR WITH THE VEHICLE, BEING UNABLE TO CHARGE CELL HONE, GPS, OR SAFETY CAMERAS. THE CAR IS OTHERWISE VERY RELIABLE, BUT FOR A BATTERY WHICH SUDDENLY DIED ON US ONE VERY COLD NIGHT. WE WERE SURPRISED IT DIDN'T DIVE A WARNING THAT IT MIGHT NEED REPLACING SOON. AS FOR THE ELECTRICAL PROBLEM, WE WERE TOLD WE MAY BE ABLE TO PURCHASE AN ALTERNATIVE EXTERNAL SYSTEM TO COMPENSATE FOR THE CIGARETTE LIGHTERS, FROM A PLACE LIKE BEST BUY. *TR

THE TECHNICIAN VERIFIED THE FAILURE BUT STATED THAT ACCORDING TO THE MANUFACTURER SPECIFICATIONS THE STRUTS DID NOT HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. APPROXIMATELY JANUARY 2013 THE DASHBOARD IN MY CAMRY BEGAN TO GET EXTREMELY STICKY. I WENT TO THE DEALER IN MARCH OR APRIL 2014 AND THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, BUT THEY KNEW ABOUT IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, SHE HEARD A BANGING SOUND COMING FROM THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FRONT STRUT COIL, COIL SPRINGS, STRUT MOUNT AND, SWAY BAR LINKS WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,053.
DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, IT WAS FOUND THAT THE WATER PUMP ON THE 2009 CAMRY HYBRID WAS LEAKING. THIS IS NOT NORMAL FOR A VEHICLE WITH 45,000. OTHER TOYOTA VEHICLES HAVE BEEN RECALLED FOR DEFECTIVE WATER PUMPS. I BELIEVE THE INVESTIGATION INTO DEFECTIVE WATER PUMPS NEEDS TO BE EXPANDED AS THIS IS NOT A NORMAL FAILURE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL, THERE WAS A LOUD POPPING NOISE COMING FROM THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPAIRED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,164.
ENGINE OVERHEATING AFTER A FEW BLOCKS DRIVE OIL BURNING TOO FAST WENT TO THE DEALER BEFORE MY WARRANTY EXPIRED BUT NO HELP THEY WAITED TO FIND THE PROBLEM UNTIL MY WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED NOW THEY DON'T WANT TO FIX IT UNLESS I PAY $5,000 OUT OF MY POCKET WITH 2,000 REIMBURSEMENT I SEE NO REASON FOR THIS IF I WENT IN BEFORE MY WARRANTY WAS OUT. IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED IF SOMEONE COULD HELP ME FIX THIS PROBLEM. *TR
DASHBOARD ALL OF A SUDDEN BECAME STICKY AND SHINY. AS I WAS CLEANING THE WINDSHIELD ONE DAY, THE PAPER STARTED TO STICK TO THE DASHBOARD AND I STILL CAN'T REMOVE IT. I TRIED WITH SEVERAL PRODUCTS TO NEUTRALIZE THE DASHBOARD, WITHOUT SUCCESS. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND ASKED THEM FOR THEIR ADVISE. THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY NEVER OBSERVED ANYTHING LIKE THAT AND ONLY COULD OFFER TO REPLACE THE DASHBOARD FOR APPROXIMATELY $1500. THE SHEEN ON THE DASH ALSO CREATES A GLARE ON SUNNY DAYS, WHICH CREATE A SAFETY HAZARD. I PERSONALLY THINK ITS A PRODUCT DEFECT AND TOYOTA IS AVOIDING A RECALL. I AM 67 YEARS OLD, AND HAVE OWNED MANY VEHICLES IN MY LIFETIME. THIS IS A FIRST. IT REALLY NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED. SINCERELY, VERY DISAPPOINTED *JS
THE "DASH PANELS" OF MY CAR IS MELTING AND IT IS ALL STICKY, DUE TO THE HIGH TEMPERATURES, WHICH IS A DANGER BECAUSE IT CAN CAUSE A FIRE IN THE ELECTRICAL PARTS THAT ARE UNDER IT. I NEED YOUR IMMEDIATE INTERVENTION, SO THAT THE TOYOTA TAKES CHARGE OF CHANGING THIS PIECE FOR FREE AS IT IS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT
MY TOYOTA CAMRY DASHBOARD IS MELTING, AND BECOMING STICKY AND GOOEY.THERE'S A GLARE THAT REFLECTS ON THE WINDSHIELD FROM THE SHINY DASHBOARD, WHICH CREATES VISIBILITY CHALLENGES WHILE DRIVING. I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED OF THE RECALL BACK IN 2014.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. I HAVE TAKEN CARE OF VEHICLE WHICH IS WELL MAINTAINED AND ALL OF SUDDEN I START FEELING A CLICKING NOISE IN THE TOYOTA CAMRY STEERING (EXAMPLE BACKING OUT OF THE PARKING LOT AND TURN INTO SHARP TURNS. I BELIEVE THIS MAY BE A PRODUCT DEFECTIVE FOR CAMRY INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT. THERE MANY PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME SYMPTOMS WITH 2007 TO 2011 CAMRY. *TR
MY DASHBOARD IS PEELING AND MELTING. WHEN I DRIVE MY CAR, THE SUN REFLECTS ON MY SHINY MELTED DASHBOARD AND CAUSES A GLARE ON MY WINDSHIELD. THE GLARE MAKES IT HARD TO SEE THROUGH THE WINDSHIELD AND MAKES IT HARD TO DRIVE ON CERTAIN HOURS OF THE DAY. *TR
PARKED CAR IN DRIVEWAY TWO HOURS LATER MY NEIGHBOR TOLD ME MY LIGHTS WERE ON. LIGHT SWITCH WAS OFF COULD NOT GET LIGHTS TO GO OFF. CALLED TOW TRUCK THEY COULD NOT GET LIGHTS TO TURN OFF, SO THEY PULLED THE FUSES FOR THE LIGHTS. THREE HOURS LATER THE HORN STARTED BLOWING,,HAD TO DISCONNECT TO GET IT TO STOP. TOOK INTO TOYOTA DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT IT, A YEAR AGO. THEY SAID THEY THOUGHT IT WAS A AFTER MARKET ALARM SYSTEM THAT WAS INSTALLED PREVIOUSLY TO MY OWNERSHIP. THEY DISCONNECTED IT, THREE WEEKS LATER SAME THING STARTED HAPPENING, EXCEPT THIS TIME THE HIGH BEAM HEADLIGHTS WOULD NOT TURN OFF. TAKE IT BACK TO TOYOTA AND NOW THEY SAY IT IS AN INTERNAL ELECTRICAL PROBLEM THAT MAY CAUSE OTHER PROBLEMS IF NOT FIXED. AROUND $825. *TR

AFTER THE CONTACT PLACED THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE AND BACK INTO DRIVE THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A TELEPHONE POLE. THE POLICE WERE NOTIFIED AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER RECEIVED MINOR BRUISES TO HER CHEST FROM THE SEAT BELT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DEEMED DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER HAD THE VEHICLE INSPECTED BY AN INVESTIGATOR. THE INVESTIGATION WAS PENDING. ON 11 26 2012 I WAS APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION ON A GREEN LIGHT GOING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH WHEN I COLLIDED WITH A TRUCK WHICH WAS TRAVELING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED AGAINST A RED LIGHT THROUGH THE SAME INTERSECTION. THE IMPACT TOTALED MY VEHICLE. WITNESSES AT THE SCENE ESTIMATED THE OTHER DRIVERS SPEED AT APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH. THE AIRBAGS IN MY 2009 CAMRY DID NOT DEPLOY. I SUSTAINED A CONCUSSION AND SPINAL INJURIES. IF THE AIR BAGS HAD DEPLOYED I AM CONVINCED THAT I MIGHT HAVE SUSTAINED FEWER INJURIES. *TR
TOYOTA MOTOR CORP. HAS ISSUED SERVICE BULLETIN # T-SB-0094-11 DATED AUG. 11, 2011. THIS SB DESCRIBES THE DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR OF TOYOTA MOTOR CARS AND TRUCKS USING THE 2AZ-FE 4 CYLINDER ENGINE. THESE ENGINES HAVE A DEFECT RESULTING IN EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION. EXCESSIVE OIL ENTERING THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER DOES NOT BURN WITH THE FUEL AIR MIXTURE. IT ENTERS THE EXHAUST SYSTEM AS UNBURNED FUEL. IN THE EXHAUST SYSTEM THERE IS A DEVICE CALLED A CATALYTIC CONVERTER. THIS DEVICE HAS A NORMAL INTERNAL OPERATING TEMP. OF 500-1000 DEGREES F. OIL ENTERING THIS DEVICE IS LIKE "POURING OIL ON THE FIRE" WHICH RESULTS IN EXHAUST SYSTEM OVERHEATING ANF FIRE. FURTHER...EXCESSIVE OIL ENTERING THE COMSUMPTION CHAMBER RESULTS IN ENGINE SPARK PLUG FOULING AND MIS-FIRE. ENGINE MIS-FIRE RESULTS IN A MOST VERY SERIOUS CONSEQUENCE...NAMELY...CATALYTIC CONV. OVERHEATING AND FIRE. WHEN A SPARK PLUG FOULS, IT DOES NOT FIRE AND IGNITE THE FUEL AND AIR IN THE CYLINDER. RESULT? RAW FUEL ENTERS THE EXHAUST SYSTEM INCLUDING THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. NOW YOU ARE "POURING GASOLINE ONTO THE FIRE".I SUGGEST YOU FOLKS INVESTIGATE THIS ENGINE DEFECT, AND DETERMINE IF TOYOTA NEEDS TO RECALL THE VEHICLES HAVING THIS 4 CYLINDER ENGINE. IF THIS EXCESSIVE OIL CONSUMPTION PROBLEM IS NOT ADDRESSED, TO INCLUDE THOSE VEHICLES OUT OF WARRANTY, THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR LIFE THREATENING UNDER HOOD AND UNDER CAR FIRE TO OCCUR ON THESE HIGH MILEAGE VEHICLES. *TR

IN ADDITION, THE ABS WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE FAILURE OCCURRED TWICE AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER THREE TIMES. THE SECOND VISIT, THE DEALER PROVIDED AN INCORRECT DIAGNOSIS AND THE THIRD TIME THEY INFORMED THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE ABS COMPUTERIZED SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
A DASHBOARD LIGHT CAME ON IN MY TOYOTA CAMRY, INDICATING A PROBLEM WITH THE AIRBAGS OR SEATBELTS (THE SRS WARNING LIGHT). THE SERVICE PERSON AT THE TOYOTA DEALER TOLD ME THE CAUSE OF THE WARNING LIGHT WAS A SPIRAL CABLE IN THE STEERING COLUMN. THE REPAIR COST ME $499.94. A CABLE DOES NOT HAVE MOVING PARTS LIKE A BRAKE ASSEMBLY. IN MY OPINION, A CABLE SHOULD NOT FAIL. I LEARNED THAT TOYOTA ISSUED A RECALL OF TACOMA TRUCKS BECAUSE OF THE SPIRAL CABLE. DUE TO THE COMBINATION OF THE STEERING WHEEL SPIRAL CABLE DESIGN AND CHARACTERISTICS UNIQUE TO THE TACOMA CHASSIS, FRICTION BETWEEN THE SPIRAL CABLE AND THE RETAINER IN THE STEERING WHEEL SPIRAL CABLE ASSEMBLY MAY OCCUR IN SOME VEHICLES. FRICTION OVER TIME MAY RESULT IN DAMAGE TO CERTAIN CIRCUITS THAT PROVIDE CONNECTIVITY TO THE DRIVERS AIR BAG MODULE. IF CONNECTIVITY IS LOST, THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP WILL REMAIN ILLUMINATED, AND THE DRIVERS AIR BAG MAY BECOME DEACTIVATED, PREVENTING DEPLOYMENT IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. 3. ARE THERE ANY WARNINGS THAT THIS CONDITION HAS OCCURRED? YES. THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT IS DESIGNED TO ILLUMINATE WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STARTED. IT GOES OFF AFTER ABOUT 6 SECONDS, INDICATING THE SYSTEM IS OPERATING AS DESIGNED. IF THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT REMAINS ILLUMINATED AFTER THIS PERIOD, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND APPROPRIATE REPAIR. I SUSPECT THE PROBLEM WITH THE TACOMA TRUCK IS ALSO A PROBLEM WITH THE CAMRY. OWNERS SHOULD NOT BE REQUIRED TO PAY THE COST OF REPAIRING A PART THAT FAILED BECAUSE OF A DESIGN FLAW. FURTHERMORE, THERE IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE, IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION, THE FAILURE OF THE STEERING WHEEL AIRBAG PUTS THE DRIVER IN DANGER.
THE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT ON MY 2009 TOYOTA CAMRY IS WORN OUT AND HAS A LOT OF PLAY IN THE STEERING ALONG WITH A POPPING NOISE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL FROM LEFT TO RIGHT AT ANY SPEED. I BEGAN TO NOTICE THE PROBLEM AROUND 60,000 MILES, I NOW HAVE 80,000 MILES AND IT HAS GOTTEN MUCH WORSE. ON 11/09/12, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY DIAGNOSED THE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT AS THE PROBLEM AND ADVISED THEY STOCKED THE PARTS BECAUSE OF IT BEING A COMMON PROBLEM. ON 11/14/12, TOYOTA RELEASED A VOLUNTARY RECALL FOR 2004-2009 TOYOTA PRIUS MODELS WHICH INVOLVED THE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT. THE RECALL DESCRIBES THE EXACT PROBLEM I AM HAVING WITH MY CAMRY. THE RECALL SHOULD BE EXTENDED TO THE CAMRY MODEL AS WELL. *TR

ON 10/19/2012, THE WINDSHIELD MOLDING ON THE UPPER DRIVER SIDE WAS SEPARATING FROM THE GLASS AND WAS CRACKING IN OTHER AREAS. THE MOLDING WAS INSPECTED BY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS AND THEY QUESTIONED THE INSTALLATION OF THE WINDSHIELD. IT WAS EXPLAINED THE CAR HAS ONE OWNER AND THE WINDSHIELD HAD NOT BEEN DAMAGED OR REPLACED. I WAS TOLD I COULD HAVE IT REPAIRED FOR $400 OR COME BACK WHEN I EXPERIENCE LEAKING. I WAS NOT SATISFIED WITH EITHER ANSWER ESPECIALLY SINCE THE TOYOTA PLANT, LOCATED IN KENTUCKY, INCORRECTLY INSTALLED THE WINDSHIELD AND NOW I AM BEING TOLD I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE BOTCHED INSTALLATION. AFTER RESEARCHING RECENT TSBS, I FOUND THE 09-12 TACOMA'S WERE EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUES I HAVE ON MY CAR. THE TSB 0062-12 STATES THE INCORRECT INSTALLATION OF THE WINDSHIELD/WINDSHIELD MOLDING WAS CAUSING WIND NOISE AND THE REMEDY WAS TO REPLACE THE WINDSHIELD/WINDSHIELD MOLDING. ALTHOUGH THE TSB SPECIFIES WIND NOISE AS A MINOR NUISANCE, THE DEFECT HAS THE POTENTIAL TO AFFECT THE INTEGRITY OF THE WINDSHIELD AS WELL AS OTHER ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS DUE TO THE FAULTY MOLDING. WE WERE ABLE TO SUBMIT 12 RECEIPTS WITH DOCUMENTED MILEAGE. WE ALSO SUBMITTED AN OIL CONSUMPTION REPORT FROM TOYOTA THAT INCLUDED THE 2009 CAMRY AND OTHER MODELS AND YEARS. THE INTRODUCTION OF THE TOYOTA TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN DATED 08/11/11 STATES "SOME 2006-2011 MODEL YEAR VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH THE 2AZ-FE ENGINE MAY EXHIBIT ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION. THE PISTON ASSEMBLY HAS BEEN CHANGED TO MINIMIZE OIL CONSUMPTION..." ON PAGE 6 OF THIS BULLETIN, POINT 6 STATES, "DETERMINE THE QUANTITY OF OIL THAT WAS CONSUMED IN 1200 MILES. WAS THE OIL LEVEL MORE THAN 1 QT LOW AFTER 1200 MILES OF NORMAL DRIVING? YES-GO TO REPAIR PROCEDURE NO-THIS TSB DOES NOT APPLY. WARRANTY GUIDELINE FOR ACCEPTABLE OIL CONSUMPTION IS 1 QT PER 1200 MILES OF OPERATION. NO WARRANTY CLAIM SHOULD BE FILED." AT THAT TIME, THE TOYOTA MECHANICS FOUND ENGINE OIL 2.5 QTS LOW AFTER 1,503 MILES."REMOVE SPARK PLUGS AND INSPECTED CYLINDERS WITH BOROSCOPE -FOUND VERTICAL SCORING ON CYLINDER WALLS DUE TO IMPROPER PISTON AND RING FIT."
